Life is our resume. It is our story to tell, and the choices we make write the chapters. Can we live in a way where we look forward to looking back?

every celebrity biography: i will narrate to you the how and why i got into acting/modeling/influencering (?), and sprinkle it with some anecdotes and trauma to be relatable while subtly name dropping to make myself look important.

“Conservative early, liberal late.
Create structure, so you can have freedom.
Create your weather, so you can blow in the wind.
Map your direction, so you can swerve in the lanes.
Clean up, so you can get dirty.
Choreograph, then dance.
Learn to read and write, before you start making up words.
Check if the pool has water in it, before you dive in.
Learn to sail, before you fly.
Initiations, before inaugurations.
Earn your Saturdays.
We need discipline, guidelines, context and responsibility early in any new endeavor.
It’s the time to sacrifice. To learn, to observe, to take heed.
If and when we get knowledge of the space, the craft, the people and the plan.
Then we can let our freak flag fly and create.
Creativity needs borders.
Individuality needs resistance.
The earth needs gravity.
Without them there is no form. No art. Only Chaos.”

Book review: Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey🚦
As the title suggests, this memoir tries to help you look at life as a traffic light; where red means stop, yellow means slow down, & green means go, & how you could turn the red & yellow lights into green lights.
Although this book was written as a memoir, it doesn't feel like one because it was less "look at all the things I've done!" & more "here are x, y, & z things I went through, & here's what I learned", & more than anything it brings you back down to earth & realize that just because you think you know someone because of how they choose to portray themselves in the public eye; you actually don't know anything about them at all.
I absolutely loved this book, it was - & is - by far the best book I have read in a very very VERY long time, & I think everyone should read it - whether you're into memoirs or not. You won't regret it.
It's beautiful, gut-wrenching, touching, & educational all at the same time.
I truly could go on & on & on about this book, & still not be able to do it justice.🤍
5/5 (in terms of writing, context, & content - just everything was *chef's kiss*)⭐⭐⭐⭐

This blog/ thought stream is deeply inspired by Matthew McConaughey’s book “Greenlights”. I can say that I was always fond of his work, thought he was funny and a great actor, admittedly, I knew very little about him or his work. I have probably only seen 5 or 6 of his films.
I read “Greenlights” at an exceptionally vulnerable and life changing time in a my life. I had just spent a quarter of the year 3,000 miles away from my home, husband, dogs and friends to help my sister and her husband. In September, they had found out that his leukemia had come back for the 3rd time and by November his treatment team had informed them that there was little to nothing they could do against his types of leukemia. My sister lived in our home town and all of our family had moved away so she was pretty alone in terms of support. I was highly privileged to work at a job that highly supports their employees mental health and personal life and they encouraged me to work entirely remotely to go help them through this time.
January 14, 2024 at 5:05am he passed away. March 18, 2024 myself, my sister and her 3 dogs, and my best friend were driving across America back to my home, husband and 2 dogs. During this trip, my sister and I listened to “Greenlights”. Now, at this time, maintaining hope and gratitude was a source of survival. “Greenlights” affirmed this survival skill. Matthew discusses the “red” and “yellow” lights of life. Many of which we were in the thick of: death, heartbreak, loss, sudden life transitions, etc.
My own husband had recently been released from the ICU from acute pancreatitis, largely resulting from excessive drinking due to his ignored and untreated alcoholism. This had been a recurring thorn in our marriage for 5 years and had reached its peak at this time.
My hope for this tumblr account is to narrate my process during this time to allow for cathartic reflection of my own, in a way that anyone who might relate or find it helpful can also read.
