I enjoy Greenwind/Greenstorm. It was one of my favorite ships and a major comfort ship when I was younger. I still go back to media (mostly fics) of them for comfort.

I'm fully aware of its controversies, but I just enjoy what I enjoy. (Equally because of this I've never seen them as cousins, and still don't understand greencousins posts, but who am I to judge.)

I've responded to similar. As long as you don't view them as cousins, I'm not gonna bother you about it. It's good that you're nonjudgmental about everything-

but really? you don't understand greencousins? Wu raised Morro. It's not that hard to parse how people make the connection. That's a sin. Rewatch morro's backstory to get your head on straight.

If you prefer to see Lloyd and Kai as a bromance than a romance that’s totally cool too

But if you declare anyone who ships Lloyd with the ninja are “proshippers” and are disgusting for simply liking an unpopular ship, then there’s a problem

My ninjago "headcanons", but I only talk about Greenwind/storm. [This is partially from an AU.]

Lloyd Fullname: Lloyd Montgomery-Garmadon. Pronouns: He/Sun/Pup/Solar/Purr. Gender: Trans man. Age: 16 (mentally, physical age is just assumed based on looks.) Element: Energy/Gold. Colors: Green and Gold. Disabilities/Illnesses: Binge eating disorder, chronic fatigue, AUDHD, BPD. Notes: Will very rarely use crutches, but only if absolutely necessary as sun hates being a burden. Hates using his mothers last name, but is forced to for "legal reasons", and despite Emperor Garmadon ruining the Garmadon name, solar still prefers it over his mother's.

Morro

Fullname: [Redacted] "Morro" [Redacted] Pronouns: He/They (doesn't use neopronouns himself, but is chill using Lloyd's) Gender: Nonbinary, AMAB, fairly androgynous. Age: Approximately 17, though exact age is unknown. (physically and mentally.) Element: Wind/Storm. Colors: Green, Silver and Black. Disabilities/Illnesses: ADHD, POTs, undiagnosed BPD. Notes: Ambulatory wheelchair user, partially due to POTs and partially due to mobility issues after being dead for a few decades. They cannot remember their birthday, at all, and had never celebrated it while being a student under Wu, instead Lloyd gave him an honorary birthday as the Day of the Departed, mostly as a joke but Lloyd still goes out of his way to give them gifts.

Extras/Explanations; Lloyd was in and out of the hospital a lot between season 2 and 4, as the sudden use of most if not all of his power made solar incredibly sick, only to have the power stripped away from sun again after getting used to it, ruining his immune system and muscles. A little after season 4 however, solar has a sudden little voice constantly following pup around, mocking his every move. But it isn't until the museum visit when Morro actually possesses him. I will be skipping over the possession arc, because even summarizing it would be too long, but afterwards Wu takes Morro's arm, and is able to pull him up out of the water properly, giving them a place on the team. After being revived however Morro's taken to hospital (along with Cole, for check ups after being revived), he had been barely able to walk ever since being revived, and was practically forced into a wheelchair. They hate having to use it, and unfortunately it does mean he is unable to do usual ninja duties and is bound to help around the bounty and rarely help out in the field. It doesn't stop him from training or sparring with the others from time to time, as they do try to keep their strength up. Being home-bound however did mean that while Lloyd was ill, they had time to bond, mostly over Disney movies and cheap snacks.

#839: some ambigrams work on a "perceptual shift", for example here, where the same glyph represents different letters based on context. these sorts of things work on the same basis as the Rabbit-Duck Illusion, a famous image that can be interpretted as two completely different things based on your perception of what it should be. i'm also going to make the jump to Yanny and Laurel's less popular sister, Green Needle and Brainstorm*, where what you hear changes based on what you're reading (perceptual shift based on context). Wittgenstein (on whom i did a research project back when i studied philosophy) says that the philosophical value in the rabbit-duck diagram is the jump from "that's a rabbit" to "i see it as a rabbit" (acknowledging the duality, which is the same sort of perceptual shift used in ambigrams.

Abulof develops Wittgenstein's point, basically formalising "once you see it, you can't unsee it", using fancy terms that quite well describe the Greenstorm (which randomly popped up on the internet, as far as i know). Abulof goes on to say that you can actually unsee it, not by putting the rabbit over the duck (so to speak) but by removing the perspective of the duck such that there is no choice for your subconscious.

*there's so much interesting stuff going on here. the sound is a Ben Ten toy thingybob saying "brainstorm", the name of a villain, if i recall correctly.... but seriously, where does the extra syllable come from!! and you can pick which one you hear by just looking at it (even with a typo) and it sounds so right every time!

as a random thought, you could argue that any ambigram where creativity is put in (ie not "SWIMS", but any of the others i've linked over the past few days) is a perceptual shift...

I think safe ships are boring. I well aware that greenstorm, Llorumi, ZanexOverlord whatever that's called,* insert more enemy x hero ships here* are toxic, unsafe, criminal in some cases. But I don't read fanfiction for the slowburn now they live happily ever after endings. At least not between this type of dynamic

Especially if they're actual enemies. I don't want them to be happy together. And grow and learn to love and forgive the atrocities and stuff. That's just delusional.

If I'm reading a hero×villain story im there mostly for the conflict. The wrestling mania of having a crush on the worst person on the planet. Thinking that this person beat me up yesterday but I'm still gonna kiss them. The overall conflict of having to explain to other protagonists why on earth they run back to this very evil person. Figuring it out themselves why they like this person and why they keep doing it.

Safe ships do the same thing. Over and over. Kai x Cole ch1 they're pining, ch2 almost kiss, ch3 actual kiss, Ch4 random event or miscommunication, ch5 IVE ALWAYS LOVED YOU COLE!

Most safe ships have this exact or very similar formula. It's repetitive and so very very very very bland

I suppose the sin is that I like unsafe ships because there is more uncertainty and more to work with and are almost always guaranteed a bad or emotionally complicated ending. And you don't get that energy most of the time with more safe ships like Lava or Techno because to make that conflict with *good* characters, you have to be really ooc to get there. l And no I don't think it's hot to be beaten up or support abusive relationships. But in fanfiction it is fun in way.

I do get where you're coming from. exploring bad relationships is always entertaining. Again, if you're not shipping any of these romantically I don't see a problem. I love me some Lloyd hating himself for still liking harumi one shots.

anyway, maybe step away from the very edge. Try some AUs maybe? That's an easy way to switch up dynamics so that outcomes are a little more uncertain. I've seen some really devastating stuff be done with pixane, and that's like the most pure ship.

But also, yeah, fanfic writers, healthy relationships have real problems sometimes. make it interesting. there's a place for fluff, but get some stakes in there.
