RNM 4x13 short coda (#3)

Jenna/Greg

It's late in the evening at Liz and Max's wedding, and the dance floor is full. Jenna approaches Greg, who is sitting alone at a table.

"So, did they just invite everyone who is in on the alien secret to this wedding or what?"

Greg laughs. "I think so."

Jenna takes a seat next to Greg. "Wait, actually... my sister knows. Think it might have been the alien and Manes killing bombs she cooked up that got her cut from the guest list?"

Greg winces. "Nah, definitely not. That was under duress... from my brother."

"And the bride's mother," Jenna adds.

Greg and Jenna look at each other and laugh.

"We have complicated lives."

"And we're not even the aliens," Greg says. He takes a sip of his drink. "Oh, also, isn't there a whole corporate enterprise of people who found out about aliens? They don't seem to be here..."

"Right. Max told me about that. And he seemed oddly calm about it..."

"I think Isobel may have done a bit of selective memory erasing on those folks. Men in Black style."

"Yikes. Well, mark me down as scared and horny." Jenna nods over to Isobel and Kyle dancing. "Those two are entirely too hot together."

Greg 'whews' in agreement.

"Now, what about those two?" Jenna looks to Maria and Dallas, across the dance-floor from Isobel and Kyle. "I'm not great at keeping up with the group chat but I thought you and Maria were a thing."

"It was brief. Then I went away to grad school and we tried the long distance thing kind of, but we weren't anything official. It fizzled out," Greg explains. "The silver lining of having an exam when Alex got married was not having to deal with that awkwardness. But then it turned out she felt the same."

"You missed Alex's wedding?! They couldn't schedule a day when you didn't have an exam?"

"Ah... Alex said they couldn't wait, and I know they've waited long enough. I would've liked to walk him down the aisle, but he and I are still working on rebuilding our relationship, and that's going to matter more in the long-term than one moment."

Jenna pats his arm. "I know a thing or two about rebuilding sibling relationships."

Greg smiles and nods, and looks out onto the dance floor again, contemplative.

Jenna glances over at Maria and Dallas again. "You know, I propositioned Dallas last time I was in town. He turned me down, and now I know why."

"Propositioned?" Greg raises his eyebrows.

Jenna smirks. "I offered to..."

Jenna leans over and whispers in Greg's ear. His eyes go wide.

"You wouldn't happen to be interested in something like that, would you?" Jenna asks.

"Ya, no, absolutely yes," Greg nods vigorously.

"Then let's get out of here."

“Are you sure that we can trust this woman with our place?” Greg asked for what was probably the hundredth time as they loaded Alex’s bags into the back of the Explorer. Alex loved his brother, really he did, but he was kind of looking forward to the two weeks away from him. They’d grown close in the years since he’d moved back to Roswell, but becoming roommates last year had reminded Alex of how much he liked having his own damn space.

“The woman’s name is Isobel, and yes, everything will be fine. Stop worrying and go have fun on your cruise with Zoe already. You’re annoying the shit out of me.” He shoved at Greg’s shoulder when he gave him an unimpressed look, but Alex could tell he was excited about the trip too.

“Yeah, whatever. It’ll be nice to be out of Roswell for the holidays for once. Just seems kinda weird that you wanna go out there by yourself.” Greg pulled Alex into a hug when they rounded the vehicle to the driver’s side.

“It’s gonna be fun! Iz has a ridiculously big house and there’s way more to do in the Dallas–Fort Worth area than there is around here.” He smiled when they pulled back from one another. “I’ll be fine, Greg, seriously. Now fuck off to your boat and try not to sink. Love you.”

“Love you too, asshole.” He waved Alex away and went back into the house as Alex headed to the airport.

Has the show addressed why there is no Greg?

I mean I would think that Alex would reconnect with his brother. And wasn’t Maria dating Tripp too? They had that long onscreen sex scene for some reason.

Wouldn’t he be around more?

Especially as he knows the alien secret and could help out with that as they fight an evil triad sorta. Instead of bringing in a bunch of new people.

Plus Alex was taken and is missing for most the season. Wouldn’t it had worked to have his brother there to help find his little brother after feeling he had failed his brother all those years when it came to Jesse?

Really the writing makes no sense.

Tanner was literally in Santa Fe for 4x13 with Kayla so you can't even say they couldn't get him back for some reason. The Malex wedding was already a strong season finale theory after Vlamburn's IG live and Tanner being there for the episode seemed like one more thing in favor of it. Silly us thinking Alex could have just one thing for his own wedding. The writers keeping this relationship going all season off screen only to give it no onscreen resolution was ridiculous. Are you telling me M*ria being involved with someone else was the only way they could justify keeping her and Dallas apart all season? I continue to understand nothing about this show's storytelling choices.

Saaaaaaaame! Not only was Alex going missing the perfect time to introduce Mandy and the missing Manes brother Clay, especially if Tanner and Kiowa were busy filming other things, but having the wedding and Tanner there was the perfect time to at least get a heart-to-heart scene with Greg. Preferably one that WASN'T about m*ria like the last time they were allowed to speak in the s3 premier. And I know the writers seemed to forget all about it, but m*ria's mom DIED. That's reason enough for her to not hop into a new relationship until the end of the season. There was no reason they couldn't have had the breakup with Greg mentioned in the premier this season which would have kept people from asking where he was, what was going on with them when she was flirting with Dallas the whole time, why he didn't show up or call or was even mentioned when her mom died etc. But then what would m*ria have had to do at the wedding? Actually care about Alex and his feelings or apologize for having a hand in Malex not being together sooner? We can't have that!
