please don't go
Bang Chan x !female reader. Friends to lovers fluff and smut. Chan is your best friend from childhood.
This is for the anon that sent me this wonderful suggestion!! My asks got all fucked up and then I lost your original ask I'm sorry :( I hope you like it!! <3
He was everything. And now he was on top of you. He knew everything about you. And now he was inside of you.
"God you're beautiful." Chan huffed out. His dark hair sticking to his forehead. His arms shiny from the sweat you were both creating. He was the beautiful one. You couldn't stop staring at his face. His brows furrowed together in concentration. His eyes locked into where he was sliding inside of you. Entering you at the most sinful pace. He had one hand wrapped around your thigh, propping you up around his hips, his other hand resting on your stomach so he could feel himself slamming inside of you. You watched him close him eyes as if he was trying to picturing your insides.
He was so intimate. So sensitive. You loved how he took his time with everything he did. You have known his since you both were kids. He went from teasing you about your newest haircut, to grabbing a handful of that hair in is perfect hands. You were leaving for University soon. Something neither of you ever wanted to talk about. He was staying here in your hometown to help with his dad's store. He knew you had to leave, to get away and start something new for yourself. He understood that better than anyone. But the thought of you leaving, driving away with a backseat full of suitcases and memories, was too much for him to take. He knew it would break him. So you didn't talk about it. Until tonight.
The night started like any other. Chan came over with plenty of junk food for your weekly movie night. It was your turn to pick the movie and he would bring the snacks, which usually means lots of sweets and sugar. You even came to calling him sweet tooth now. He disliked the name at first, rolling his eyes every time you spoke it. But he smiled at it now. You knew he liked that he had a name, that you gave him a name that was just for the two of you.
You both claimed your regular spots on the couch, a fair distance from each other but close enough that your hands would accidentally brush if you reached for something. You started the movie "Gremlins" and opened a bag of sour patch kids. Chan reached over to your lap to grab a few for himself. The sudden sensation of his hand inside the bag between your legs sent shivers through your entire body. You were going to miss him so much when you left. And all you could think about was savoring every moment with him while you could. But Chan wasn't talking, he wasn't laughing at the movie, he just sat in silence.
"You okay?" You mumbled with a mouth full of sour candy.
Chan's eyes stayed glued to the TV screen as he answered, "Yeah. Fine."
You rolled your eyes and let out a loud, obnoxious sigh. He should know by now that you know him. You know him inside and out. So you pause the movie and turn your body toward his.
"Let's not do this," you start, "Tell me what's bothering you."
Chan stands up from the couch and heads toward the kitchen. "Does it matter? You're leaving soon anyway."
You follow close behind him and grab is arm to turn him around. "No! Don't do that! You know why I'm leaving. You know it kills me to leave you."
"Obviously not enough, because you're leaving. Sure we'll call and text at first, but then you'll meet someone, some great guy, and I'll just be the loser you grew up with that never got up the nerve to make a move.." Chan had tears in his eyes. His hands were shaking. He had been holding this is for a while now.
"What do you mean make a mo-" your sentence was cut short but Chan's lips against yours. Both his hands cupped your face as his mouth and yours pushed back and forth into one another. Your height was making it difficult to reach his mouth like you wanted. You pressed up on the tip of your toes in an attempt to gain more leverage. And just like he had read your mind, Chan picked you up and held you around his waist. He chuckled inside your mouth mid-kiss and the feel of you against him. You ran your fingers through his hair and gave it a slight tug so your eyes met for a moment. The two of you had always had a connection. Very little words had to be spoken to understand what the other wanted, but you could see in his eyes he wanted to hear it. He wanted to hear your voice say that you wanted him as badly as he wanted you.
"I want you." You breathed out.
Chan was maticulous in the way that he touched you. Memorizing every curve and valley of your body. You watched as he kissed your thighs, tracing kisses up to your cunt. He made eye contact with you at the entrance of your core. You shivered at the feeling of his warm breath onto you. You spread your legs for him with a smile. "Do you want to see how I taste, sweet tooth?"
Chan nodded his head quickly. His eyes glossy and focused. He was in a trance and all he could see was you. The first sensation you felt was his nose. The contact made your back arch. You rolled your hips slowly into his large nose. You really fucking loved his nose. His tongue was next, giving long laps on your drenched cunt. Laps like a dog, his eyes closed, almost hypnotized look on his perfect face. He was taking his time, using his tongue to spread open your lips and folds. Low moans leaving his lips while he buried himself deeper. Your lips were thrusting faster now, climbing towards your orgasm. Your best friend about to make you come. Your best friend about to see you come undone for him.
"make me come, channie please" you beg.
Chan lets out a desperate growl as he grabs your ass and pulls you close to his hungry mouth. In turn you grab a handful of his hair with both your hands, riding out your orgasm into his face. The ecstasy overwhelming as you lay on the bed spread open and panting. Chan sat up on his knees and waited. He tilted his head. "You okay?"
You lifted your head to meet his gaze. He was so patient. So kind. You just wanted to fuck the shit out of him. He was your best friend and now he was so much more.

a/n: TYSM this took me absolutely way too long to finish BUT im officially on spring break now so hopefully I'll be able to write some more again!
cw: breeding (with intent), praise, fem!reader, fingering, kids (derogatory), not proofread, lmk if I forgot anything!
At last, your crotch goblins were asleep.
It felt like years had passed just trying to get them to settle down after dinner, much less convince them to get into bed; your youngest spent about fifteen minutes arguing with his dad in the bathroom before finally brushing his teeth.
And yet, as you and your husband wandered past the doorways of all five of your kids, watching them sleep without a care in the world, you felt a sort of contentness fill your chest knowing you’d probably have to do it all over again the next night.
While watching your third shift in her sleep, drooling, Childe joined you, resting his head atop yours and rubbing a palm on your arm soothingly. “Phew! That took forever,” he remarked in a whisper.
You snickered along with him and turned to meet his eyes. “You’re pooped, too? Thought you were all about the thrill of danger.”
He snorted softly. “Right, nothing more dangerous than five gremlins who napped a little too long after lunch.” His gaze slipped to your third behind you, now passed out flat on her stomach, and pressed a kiss to the side of your head. “Let’s follow their lead tonight, hm?”
With that, he led you to the room you both shared. The two of you went about your nightly routines in comfortable silence, you brushing your teeth while Childe picked out something for the two of you to watch together before bed. Or at least, you thought he was.
Childe was not doing that. Instead, he watched you, his wife. Wife. It still hit him every now and then that you were his, no matter how long you two had been married. What did you see in him that made you say yes when he proposed? When he first asked you out? He’d probably never know.
He knew what he saw in you, though. And somewhere in that long list of qualities (that he had written on his phone), was your pussy.
The same pussy that birthed his five kids. The same one that got so wet every time he whispered something filthy in your ear. That hugged his dick so perfectly.
Fuck, he was hard. And you were none the wiser, simply rinsing the toothpaste from your mouth like normal.
Childe’s eyes trailed down to your ass as you bent over the sink. Down your legs, up to your stomach covered with the fabric from your fitted tank top. He pictured it— remembered it— stretched out and swollen, round with his kid growing inside. You had looked so good pregnant. Every time.
And suddenly, he really wanted to see you pregnant again.
Hands snaked around your waist as you washed your face, drawing your attention to the mirror in front of you. “Hm, what’s up?” you asked his reflection.
Childe remained silent, opting to take his time feeling you up instead. His hands idly roamed around your stomach, grazing the sides of your breasts, leaving tingles of goosebumps in their wake, until finally landing on your hips and pulling you flush against him.
A squeak of surprise escaped you, a question close behind, but the motives behind his behavior became clear when you noticed his hard-on nestled snugly between your ass cheeks. “Ajax! You can’t wait five minutes for me to finish here?”
“It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” he mused, ignoring your protest.
You bent over to rinse the soap from your face. “‘A while?’ Did you already forget how you practically jumped me the other day after the kids went to school?”
“I mean since we had one.”
You paused at his clarification, standing up straight to meet his eyes through the mirror.
He had that look in his eye— one you had seen many times before. Five times, to be exact. Childe smoothed his hands over your hips, the pressure combined with the dull throbbing of his cock against your ass making you dizzy. “You always look so beautiful carrying my baby. Let me give you another one?”
You forced yourself to think around the growing arousal simmering in your blood. “You want another baby or you just want to get me knocked up again? Pretty important difference, there.”
His grin was devious as one of his hands migrated to slide into your panties. “I think six is a much better number than five, don’t you think?” A finger grazed your slick folds. Childe’s grin only grew wider. “Kinda feels like you agree with me.”
You tilted your head to lean against his shoulder, relishing in the sensations of his fingers teasing your sex. “Please,” you breathed.
That was all he needed to hear. Ever the gentleman, your husband transported you swiftly to the bed, wasting no time pulling your sleep shorts and underwear down your legs while you rid yourself of your top. Your hands tangled themselves in his hair to pull his face to yours, lips meeting in a messy kiss.
Childe ground his hips into yours, sending waves of heat pulsing through your limbs and encouraging more slick to seep from your cunt. He moaned into your mouth, the kiss becoming sloppy as impatience and need had you panting rather than meeting his lips. You were hot, so hot, desperate for any sort of attention that would soothe the steady ache building in your core, that when he finally dipped a finger into your drooling cunt, a loud moan ripped from your throat.
A hand slapped over your mouth, muffling any further sounds you made. Childe panted down at you, panic and lust etched into his face. “Shh, baby,” he whispered, “Don’t want to wake the little ones up, do we?”
You shook your head, pleading to him with your eyes to keep fingering you.
“Good girl.” His finger slowly pulled out of you, only to sink back in up to the knuckle; again, again— another finger joined— again, again, until the steady pace he set had your pussy singing his praises in lewd squelches.
Grateful as you were for the stimulation, it wasn’t enough. You brought up a hand on top of his that covered your mouth, lifting it up just enough to gasp, “Please, please, want you inside me, wan’ you to fill me up.”
The dark chuckle Childe let out was almost patronizing. “Aw, my fingers aren’t enough for you? So impatient tonight,” he cooed, curling his fingers up to tease your g-spot before pulling them out.
“Don't worry, I’ll fill you up soon.”
And soon came faster than you expected. This time, you’re thankful that Childe’s hand was still so close to your mouth, otherwise the whine that you let out would’ve had you answering some very concerned questions from your kids. His cock sunk into you with ease and without warning, and you were suddenly reminded of how whole you felt when he gave you the piece you were missing. A shudder rippled through your body as he rolled his hips into yours, rutting with a need that you could tell was out of his control.
But just as it was starting to feel good, he paused, moving his hands to grip the back of your thighs to fold you into a mating press before you could complain at the loss of movement.
With your cunt bared open to him in the new position, the tip of his cock kissed your cervix with ease, grazing by the gummy spot hidden within your walls with every pass. Childe hissed in a breath when he felt you squeeze around him, hips stuttering into a steady pace that gave you no room to breathe.
The room was getting hot. Or maybe that was you? Childe always did have the nasty habit of fucking you out of your head, and now that he had a purpose in mind, you had a feeling you were going to be walking a little funny the next day.
Every slam of his cock sent your knees knocking into the mattress beside your head. Every slap of his balls against your ass as he filled you to the hilt with every thrust had your eyes rolling to the back of your head. Every filthy thing your husband uttered without shame triggered another wave of slick to coat his cock, making it all the more easy for him to fuck you however he wanted.
“Can’t wait to get you pregnant again,” he panted. “I hope it's a girl— your tits always look so— hah— so much bigger with a girl.” The bed was creaking. “We’re gonna get it right on the first try, ‘kay? Not wasting time with a negative test. ‘M just gonna have to fill you enough tonight so that it takes. And you—” A hand of his left your thigh to swipe vigorously over your swollen clit. Your back arched, mouth dropping open with a whine. “--- You, are gonna cum as many times as you want. Got it, sweetheart?”
“A-jax,” you whimpered. “I— gonna—”
“Ohh, already?” he crooned. “Go ahead, cum on my cock. Want you to feel good while I knock you up.”
Your first orgasm of the night ripped through you, the coil in your stomach snapping. This time it was you who covered your mouth the block the gutteral moan that threatened to make itself heard. The walls of your pussy clamped down on Childe, a small squeak accompanying the juices that spurted around his dick as he worked you through your high.
“Fuuuck, yes, just like that. So good, mmmh.” A bright flush glowed from under his pale skin, covering his face and sweat-soaked chest. His thumb stopped its assault on your clit to catch a dribble of your cum that slid down your ass.
You were almost a little disappointed when he didn’t offer it to you for a taste, but the sight of him licking it clean was more than enough to make it up. And enough of a distraction from the steadily building overstimulation of Childe’s cock still, albeit slowly, rocking into you.
A tear slid down your cheek, prompting Childe to lean over you to lick it up as well. He propped himself up by your head, his tongue dragged lightly across your cheekbone, then followed up with a multitude of kisses around your face. He finally reached your lips, rewarding you with a languid kiss, rimmed with the tang you recognized from your cum.
Against your lips, Childe continued to mumble praises in between sloppy kisses, each sentence egging him on to chase his release. “You taste so good.” His warm breath graced your mouth as he spoke. He was too close, too warm, you were too warm, the heat radiating off the both of you so palpable you swear you could touch it. And it was his fault. “I wish you could see yourself right now. So fucking beautiful. Mother of my kids.” A hand of his drifted down to palm your tummy, pressing down until you could both feel his dick rearranging your guts beneath your skin. “Feel me here? That’s where I’m gonna cum. Gonna fill you up so much it’ll be dripping out of you and I’ll just have to fuck it back in.”
You yelped as he buried his head into the crook of your neck to better focus on drilling his cock into your g-spot. “Ajax!”
“Fuck, yes, say my name. Say my name. Who’s pussy is this?”
“Yours, Ajax, it’s yours! ‘S your pussy— please cum, please, please,” you sobbed.
“‘M almost there, almost— ” he cut himself off with a groan. His thrusts turned sloppy, steady pounding shifting to erratic jackhammering before his hips stuttered, and he pushed himself to the hilt again before spilling his load into you.
You sighed in bliss, basking in the warmth settled in your belly. As Childe caught his breath, he picked his head up to look at you quizzically.
“You didn’t cum again.”
You shook your head with a raspy laugh. “It's ok.”
Inside your cunt, you felt his cock twitch. He arched an eyebrow at you. “You’re right, it is. You’ll cum again soon anyways.” Childe slid out of you, making you whine at the loss before wrapping an arm around your waist and carrying you with him as he sat up, plopping you in his lap.
“Because I’m nowhere near done with you.”

Present Day: Christmas Eve, 1989.
Eddie. You’re staring at Eddie, that much you know. He’s standing right in front of you, yet it all feels hazy. There’s a ringing in your ears that won’t stop, a sickness in your gut that won’t ease. You say nothing as you step aside to let Dustin and the rest of the kids rush to the door to greet the man before you.
He looks at you, desperately, before being swarmed by everyone else.
“Eddie! Holy shit!!” Dustin yells, throwing his full weight at the man and barely giving him time to get his bearings.
“What are you doing here!?” Lucas asks, pushing Dustin out of the way to get his own hug.
“Slow down, you gremlins,” Eddie laughs. Oh, god, his laugh. It makes your stomach churn. What was once music to your ears is now an unfamiliar sound. You’d know his laugh anywhere. But you don’t feel like you know him anymore. “How’s everyone doing? I missed you fuckers,” he says, ruffling Max’s hair.
“We missed you,” she says, rolling her eyes as if she can’t be bothered. Eddie knows it’s just an act.
You move out of the doorway, feeling like you’re in a daze as you walk back to the living room.
“Did you guys know about this?” you ask Nancy, Robin, and Steve once they turn expectantly to catch your reaction to the whole surprise.
“Yeah, he got in a few days ago. We wanted it to be a surprise,” Robin says, biting her bottom lip in an attempt to cover a smile.
“Right,” you say, not matching her excitement as you sit down in an empty chair. It explains why the girls were acting so weird during your baking session. It explains why you made the stupid raspberry cookies.
You can feel Jonathan’s eyes boring into you, watching your every move. You don’t look at him, knowing you’ll break if you see the concerned expression you know will be on his face. Nancy’s about to say something when Eddie and the teens come swarming in, Dustin already blabbering his ear off. You go stiff in your seat, not meeting those gorgeous brown eyes and instead keeping your face trained on the floor.
Jonathan stands, moving to greet Eddie as he’s the only one who hasn’t yet. “What’s up, man? You back for good?” he asks.
“Yeah. Yeah I think I am,” he says. “It’s good to see you.” You know everyone’s eyes are on you, including his. You know they’re waiting for you to say something. Your silence is ear-splitting, and it feels like a bomb is about to go off.
Everyone moves to surround Eddie, except you, but you can’t blame them. They ask him for all of the details about Chicago, his reasons for moving back, anything and everything. You catch him looking around their faces, trying to get you to look at him, but you avoid his eyes every time. You thought this was what you wanted. You thought seeing him would fix everything.
But it didn’t.
If anything, your heart feels even more shattered. He thinks he can just come home, show up at this party without warning and you’re just going to fall into his arms? Confess your love for him? Act like nothing has happened?
He’s too nonchalant, the way he talks to the group. The way he sits casually on Steve’s sofa, the way he grabs cookies and a drink to indulge in.
A part of you wants to be upset with your friends for hiding this from you, for giving you no warning, but the other part of you knows they were just trying to make you happy. This was supposed to make you happy. You’re unhappy without Eddie, and now he’s here and you’re still unhappy. What is wrong with you?
It’s too much, your head feeling like it’s going to cave in as you listen to the chatter around you. Eddie’s voice is grating in your ears, and you can’t bear to look at his face — you know you’ll just burst into tears. He’s in the middle of telling a story about his attempts to land a recording gig when you stand from your seat, stopping him mid-sentence.
Without a word, you walk quickly to Steve’s back door, letting yourself out to the backyard. You can hear Jonathan call after you, but you don’t want to be bothered. The cold air hits you harder without your coat on, and you wrap your arms around yourself to keep as warm as possible. Steve’s covered pool is coated with a layer of ice and snow, and the lights from inside make the snow sparkle. Inhaling deeply, the icy air burns your lungs, but at least you’re feeling something definite. Your emotions are all over the place, none of them clear or easy to work through.
Maybe you should just go home. Just slink off to your car and go, because you certainly can’t be here with him. As if on cue, sent by some fucked up force in the universe that loves to put you through the wringer, the door slides open.
You hear shoes crunch on the snowy ground, bulky steps that can only come from heavy boots. A deep breath is taken but it’s not enough, you feel like you can’t get any air when he’s taking it all from you. Standing still, you stare straight ahead, your back facing who you know is right behind you. You can’t bear to turn around, to be the one to face him first.
“Sunny,” is all he says. His voice is soft, but it raises every hair on your neck. You’re back to a year ago, to that horrible place he took you to and locked you away in.
You steel yourself, preparing for the floor to fall out beneath you and trying your damndest to be ready for it.
“Please, look at me.”
Turning, slowly, your eyes lock with his. He looks the same as he did the last time you saw him, except now his face fills your mouth with a sour taste. You don’t like this feeling.
“I missed you,” he says, quietly.
His hands are tucked in the front pocket of his jeans, his face barely visible in the dark. He looks at you almost expectantly, like you’re supposed to do something here. Like this isn’t insane.
“I can’t do this, Eddie,” you say, barely above a whisper. Your voice is failing you.
He hears you anyway, his ears so attuned to anything and everything you have to say. You don’t look the same, the usual fire behind your eyes is gone. It worries him.
“Please, just… I came back for you. I’ve never stopped thinking about you.”
“Please don’t. Don’t do that, Eddie,” you warn, tears burning at your eyes.
“Do what? Be honest with you? I’m sorry Sunny. I’m so sorry. But it’s the truth. I’ve never stopped missing you,” he presses. His tone isn’t harsh, but passionate. You know he’s being honest, and it makes you want to throw up.
“So, what? You’re just going to walk in here and act like everything is normal? Like this isn’t fucking weird?” you ask, getting progressively louder as you go. He’s standing not even a foot away, silent. What can he say?
“You’ve been gone for a year, Eddie. You left me, you barely gave me a warning!” you hiss, stepping further away from him. Retreating into yourself, protecting yourself.
He takes a step toward you, chancing it. Reaching a hand out as if to grab you and comfort you. You don’t let him, slinking out of his touch.
“Sunny, please. Can we talk about this?” he asks, his voice desperate as he pleads with you.
“You didn’t want to talk it over when you made the decision to leave,” you spit. “So maybe I don’t want to talk things over now. I’m sorry you thought I’d just fall right into your arms again, but it’s not happening, Eddie. This? Whatever it is we had? It’s done, it’s gone. You can thank yourself.” You brush past him, slamming the door shut behind you once you’ve entered the house again. Anger and hurt blaze through your veins in a deadly concoction, your vision blurry with the hot tears that sting in your eyes.
Eddie follows after you, hot on your trail, emotion-strained voice calling out from behind. “Sunny. Sunny!”
You don’t give him the satisfaction of a response, simply putting your coat on and grabbing your purse. “I’m leaving. I’m sorry, everyone,” you say curtly, and then you’re heading towards the front door, stepping outside into the cold night with nothing more than the slam of the wood.
Eddie stands in the living room, forlorn as everyone just looks around, unsure of what to do. Of all the ways this reunion could have gone, they certainly didn’t expect this. They thought it would make you happy, not make everything worse.
“I have to go get her—” he starts, frantic as he pats down his pockets for his car keys.
“Eddie, I don’t think that’s the best idea,” Robin says warily, standing from her seat on the couch.
“I let her go once!” Eddie yells, a painful twinge to his tone. “I can’t let it happen again.”
He looks like a kicked puppy, scared where he stands in the middle of Steve’s home. The looks everyone gives him are pitying, and it makes him scoff as he starts to pace, running his hands through his hair.
“You need to give her space, man,” Jonathan adds, trying to calm him down. “If you bombard her right now, it’ll only make her more upset.”
Eddie looks at him, saying nothing. His eyes are glassy, tears threatening to spill but he doesn’t want to let them. The impulsive part of him wants to tell Jonathan to fuck off — he used to know you like that. He used to be the person that knew everything about you, and now Jonathan has taken his place. Even if only platonically. He bites his tongue, reminding himself of the unfortunate truth that it’s his own fault you aren’t close anymore.
“I— I just need some air,” Eddie settles on, turning around and going back out to the backyard.
He isn’t out there for long before he hears someone else join him. Turning, he’s a little surprised to see Jonathan. He’d expected Steve, maybe Dustin.
“Hey,” Eddie says, his hands in his pockets as he stares out across the yard.
“Hey,” Jonathan replies, taking slow steps closer to him. “Listen, Eddie,” he starts after a pause. “You put her through a lot this last year,” he says. Eddie can tell by his tone he’s not trying to be unkind or sour, but it still hurts. It’s hard to admit that he was so incredibly wrong, and that his actions are having major consequences. He never wanted to hurt you this badly. Everything had spun out of control, and he’s to blame.
“I know, man. I know,” he replies. “I’m sorry about it.”
Jonathan just looks at him, watching him carefully. There’s a brief silence, before Eddie takes a deep breath and a little leap of faith.
“Can you talk to her for me?”
He looks at the man beside him, breath hitched in his throat, nervous.
“Eddie—”
“Please, man. She… she trusts you. In a way that she doesn’t trust me anymore. And I know that that’s my fault, but…” he takes a shaky breath, furiously swiping at his wet eyes with his thumb. “I want to earn her trust back. I want her back.”
Jonathan thinks this over, running his tongue over his teeth behind his top lip as if collecting the taste Eddie’s words leave in his mouth. Meeting Eddie’s eyes, his gaze softens when he sees the pain sitting on his face.
“Okay. I’ll try to talk to her,” Jonathan says finally, and Eddie lets out a relieved breath. “But. I’m not promising anything. If she wants to cut ties with you, that’s her business, and I can’t force her to do anything. You screwed up last year, Ed. I’m not trying to rub salt in your wounds, I just need you to understand why this is so hard for her.”
Eddie almost wants to laugh. Jonathan has a way of saying harsh things — of giving you the truth — yet not making you feel like complete shit while he does it. Eddie knows that he cares, he just cares on a level that not everyone does.
“I know. Trust me, I know that,” he sighs, blowing out a puff of air as he looks up to the dark sky. “I know you can’t force her, and I don’t want that. I just… I want her to know how sorry I am. If nothing else, I want her to know that she’s the most important person I’ve ever met and that I’m a moron for what I did last year.”
Jonathan does laugh at this, and then Eddie starts laughing with him. And it feels good, if even for a fleeting moment.
“I’ll talk to her, okay? I’m glad to have you back, man,” the younger man says, giving Eddie a soft fist to the shoulder. There’s a smile on his face, just enough for Eddie to notice.
He smiles back. Jonathan doesn’t need words to hear the ‘thank you’ that lies behind it.
•
You don’t feel any better after your outburst towards Eddie. You wanted to be with your friends tonight, not sitting alone at your apartment. But you’d left on impulse and now… here you are. Sitting alone on your floor because it felt right to sit on the floor and now you’re spiraling.
You don’t know what to think, or what to feel. You’d been sad for months over Eddie’s absence and now he’s here and you go and have a meltdown. Frustration boils inside of you, your heart twisting in your chest. Being angry at Eddie doesn’t feel any better than missing him had, it’s not like being mad allows you to just forget him.
Before you can think yourself into oblivion, your phone rings. Groaning, you stand to retrieve it. Your heart pounds in your chest — what if it’s him?
Steadying your breathing, you let it ring a few times before you convince yourself to answer.
“Hello?” you mumble, not quite ready to find out whose voice will come out on the other end.
“Sunny. It’s me,” Jonathan’s voice comes through the receiver, relaxing every muscle in your body. “Are you okay?” he asks.
“Honestly, Jon? I have no fucking idea,” you say, with a slight laugh at the end. There’s no humor in it, though, you simply feel like you’re going mad.
“Can I come over?”
“Jonathan, no, stay at the party—”
“Sunny. Can I come over?” he tries again, not wanting you to put him first in this situation. He wants to be there for you.
“Okay. Yeah, fine. Door’s unlocked, just come in when you get here.”
Clicking the phone back into its place, you pace the floor slightly, chewing your nail.
Did Eddie really come back for you? Is this all for you?
Your heart aches at the thought of it. You just don’t understand how he expected everything to be just fine the second you saw him, and all you can picture in your mind is the look on his stupid fucking face the second you opened Steve’s door.
He looked at you like you hung the moon. He looked at you like you were everything.
You think about last year, you think about the kiss. The way his lips felt so soft against yours, like they were made to be there. You dig the heels of your palms into your eyes, rubbing at them with a frustrated sigh. Taking a seat on the couch, you await Jonathan’s arrival.
The door opens quietly before his figure slips through the gap, his cheeks rosy from the cold. You’re curled in one corner of the sofa, and you must look pitiful because his eyes soften the second they land on you.
“Sunny…” he says, hanging his coat on your coat rack before instantly coming to sit by you.
“What the fuck is happening, Jonathan?” you croak, moving to lean against him. “I thought this was what I wanted. I wanted him to come home I… I still miss him…”
“I think he just surprised you. You’re feeling a lot of things at once, and that’s okay. Every single emotion is valid,” he says softly, rubbing your back with a gentle hand.
“I’m just so mad that he walked in like it was nothing. He sat down and talked with everyone like there wasn’t a giant elephant in the room to address,” you say, that anger still lingering in your voice. “But I’m not proud that I walked out on him. I didn’t let him talk, or anything. I told him we’re done,” you sniff, letting tears drip down your face. “I don’t know if I really meant that.”
“Do you think he’s just gonna give up on you? I promise you he’s not, Sunny. He was ready to chase after you the second you left.”
You think this over, a pang in your heart making you cry more. A small part of you wanted him to chase you, although you wouldn’t admit it in your anger.
“He’s really sorry, Sunny,” Jonathan sighs, squeezing you closer to him. “I’ve never seen him this beat up over anything. He’s devastated. You have a right to be devastated, too. I just want you to know that he knows he screwed up.”
“Did he tell you to tell me this?”
Jonathan pauses, takes a breath. “He asked if I would talk to you, yeah. But I had every intention of coming over here, anyway. I think you need someone to talk it out with, that isn’t him.”
“Is that all he said?”
“He said he’s a moron for what he did,” Jonathan adds, smiling when he gets a watery laugh from you.
“He is a fucking moron,” you admit, wiping your nose with the back of your hand.
“And he said that you’re the most important person he’s ever met. There’s no doubt in my mind that he means that. He really adores you, Sunny.”
“I feel the same about him,” you say, lip wobbling. It’s true. You’ve never met anyone else who’s impacted you quite the same as he has. He’s everything. That’s why this is all so earth-shattering.
“So what are you gonna do?” Jonathan asks, waiting a beat. “You don’t have to decide now. I’m not here to change your mind or tell you how to feel. You don’t have to talk to him anymore if you really don’t want to. But I saw how happy you were with him last year, Sunny. I want you to be that happy again.”
“I need to think things over,” you say meekly, letting out a sigh. “Can we just watch a movie?” you ask, looking up at your friend.
“Yeah,” he chuckles. “We can watch a movie. Give yourself all the time you need to think.”
Present Day: Christmas Day, 1989.
The night had been a restless one. Tossing and turning beneath your heavy comforter, your mind racing with a million thoughts. A million things you want to say, a million things you should say, to him. He hurt you, and he can’t take that back, but you didn’t even hear a single thing he had to say. You didn’t hear him out, and that’s not how you’d typically behave around him. Maybe nothing involving him was “typical” anymore, but you couldn’t sleep restfully knowing you haven’t had a real conversation with him.
All you’d wanted, for 12 months, was for Eddie to be home, to apologize. You realize now that your anger has eased that you need to talk to him. Nothing will improve if you don’t speak to him. You know for a fact it would eat you alive every day if he was home in Hawkins, seeing your friends, and you had to avoid him. You have things you need to get off your chest, stuff you want to say, and as you laid awake blinking into the darkness, you’d decided you needed to go and see him.
Christmas morning arrives too bright and too early, your body curled beneath blankets as you rub your eyes and yawn. It feels like you fell asleep for maybe an hour or two, your mind still racing with thoughts that seemed to never stop. Immediately, you’re throwing the covers off and getting out of bed.
There’s still time to fix things. There’s still time to talk to him, to have a good Christmas. You deserve a good Christmas.
The shower water pours hot out of the faucet, steam filling your bathroom as you undress. You let the water coat your skin, making you feel more awake as you shampoo your hair and scrub your body. You feel like you can’t move fast enough, anxiety swirling in your stomach coupled with your eager need to see Eddie.
You get ready in record timing, hair done and outfit donned, teeth brushed and everything else in between. You bundle up for the weather, as one look out your window told you it was definitely a cold one, a hefty layer of snow coating the ground. You can feel yourself tremble as you get in your car and start it, nausea creeping back in as you worry the whole drive to Eddie’s.
Your boots crunch on the snow-covered dirt, your hand pushing your car door shut with a reluctant creak. It’s been so long since you’ve been here, at the trailer park, standing in front of this very trailer. It looks the same as you remember it, though it looks like Wayne got a new wreath for the door.
It’s early, god you know it’s so early, and you only hope you won’t be disturbing the sleep of the two men who inhabit the home. But this is important, you think to yourself. You have to do this.
Taking a deep breath, your hand trembles before you bring it to the door in a repetitive pattern, knocking firmly. There’s no answer for a moment, and you worry that maybe coming out here was a mistake. Maybe he doesn’t want to talk to you, after all. Maybe Jonathan was wrong, and you’d pissed him off, and he’s done with you.
Maybe it’s too late.
You’re about to resign, to get back in your car, when you hear footsteps on the inside of the door. It swings open in front of you, revealing Eddie’s sleepy face and his sleep-tousled hair.
“Sunny?” he asks, rubbing one eye with his hand. He reaches off to the side, yanking on a coat before coming to stand outside with you.
“Sorry, uh… Wayne’s still asleep otherwise I’d—”
“I miss you, Eddie,” you cut him off, making his eyes widen for a split second. “And I’m so fucking mad at you, but it turns out being mad at you doesn’t make me miss you any less.”
He blinks, looking down at you but not speaking, as if he’s too scared to say anything at all.
“You really fucked me up leaving last year, you know that?” you ask with an icy laugh, looking off to the side. “I missed you every single day you were gone. All I wanted this whole time was you. And now you’re here, and— and, you think you can just show up and everything will be fine. Everything’s not fine,” you ramble, voice cracking at the end of your speech.
You’d tried to ward off any tears, but they’re running warm down your cold cheeks before you can stop them. You wipe furiously at them with your fingers, trying to hide your emotions from the man in front of you. You hadn’t planned on getting this emotional, but then you suppose you can’t really fully plan for a conversation like this.
“Nothing— is fine, Eddie,” you croak. “I missed you so much,” you start to cry harder, collapsing against him as he readily accepts you into a sort of hug as you let it all pour out of you. He holds you against his chest, and how you missed being pressed close to him like this. Your chest aches with every single second of those 12 months without him that you can’t get back. “How could you do that to me?” you ask him, fist clutching the fabric of his coat, not wanting to let him go.
He squeezes you so tight, he doesn’t know what to say. He didn’t expect you to come here, especially not so soon.
“I’m so sorry, Sunny,” he says quietly. “I’m so sorry. I’m the dumbest man alive for leaving you. I really am.”
“At least you know that,” you sniff, the tiniest laugh rumbling in your chest amidst your tears; reminding you of what Jonathan had told you the night before. That he’s a moron.
“I’ll let you tell me that every day for the rest of my life,” he says, brave enough to crack the smallest smile. “Just please don’t give up on me.” Gripping your shoulders, he coaxes you just far enough away so he can really look at you. “All I want is you, Sunny. Chicago… didn’t change my life. Not in the slightest. I thought I needed to get out of here but… I couldn’t have been more wrong. And I’m so sorry you had to be caught up in my dumb mistake,” he says earnestly. “It was never a problem with you. My feelings for you were always real. Are still real.”
You’re silent, taking a couple breaths before you speak. “I’m sorry Chicago didn’t work out. But the selfish part of me was hoping it wouldn’t…” you confess, looking down at your shoes.
“It’s okay. I learned my lesson, that’s for sure,” he scoffs a little, his expression downtrodden.
“This year was so hard, Eddie,” you tell him. “Nothing has been the same without you.” The pain in your voice feels like he’s been stabbed in the heart, and he so horribly wishes he could take everything back. But he can’t. All he can do is be better for you, now.
“I know, sweetheart,” he says, his big chocolate eyes so apologetic. You missed his pet names, missed the way sweetheart rolls off of his tongue specially for you. “Please tell me you didn’t mean what you said… when you said that we’re done.”
He doesn’t look at you as he says that last part, not the entire time at least. His eyes dance nervously around, his voice wavering with anxiety. It makes tears spring to your eyes again, the thought of going on without him. Of spending every day for the rest of your life without him.
“I can’t do this without you, Eddie,” you say. “But you have to promise me you’re never going to pull something like that again. You’re never leaving again, unless it’s with me,” you steel yourself, not letting yourself get too emotional until he can make this promise. Until he can prove himself.
“Never. Never, I swear. I don’t want to be anywhere you aren’t,” he breathes, moving closer to you. “Please let me make it all up to you. I’ll spend the rest of my life being the best I can be for you.”
His hands cup your face, warm against your frosty cheeks. He wipes a stray tear from your face with a gentle thumb, smiling so softly when you lean into his touch. All at once it hits you, your overwhelming affection for him that you’d had to shove down all year. It gnaws at your chest, clawing its way out of you triumphantly. He’s still the same man you knew then. He’s still the only person you want first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
“Eddie…” you sigh, letting your eyes flutter closed, your hands holding his forearms.
You can feel how close his face is to yours, his nose nearly ghosting over your own and his breath warming your skin. The broken pieces of you are being glued back together one by one the longer he stands holding you.
“I’ve thought about that kiss every single day for the last year, you know that?” he says softly, your eyes opening once more to look up at him.
“Me too,” you breathe. “I’d started to think that maybe it was a mistake,” you admit sadly, watching the way his expression changes. “But it was the best kiss I’ve ever had.”
Both of you go quiet, eyes saying so much without words as you look at each other. He’s so close, his face right against yours as you stand in the freezing cold morning. He starts to shift even closer, and you feel like his lips are about to close the distance to yours when the trailer door swings open.
“Is that my little lady?” Wayne’s gruff voice calls out.
You and Eddie break apart abruptly, Eddie rather reluctantly letting you go as your head swings to look at his uncle.
“Wayne!” you beam, moving instantly to accept his hug. You glance back at Eddie, heart thumping in your chest as you watch him watching you.
This is how it should be. This is how you always want it to be.
“Get in here and out of the cold. I missed you, you know that?” the older man says to you, pulling you inside.
You have a lot of catching up to do. That second kiss will have to wait.
After a mug of hot cocoa and a lot of reminiscing with Wayne and Eddie, you find yourself alone with Eddie in his room. There’s a tiny bit of awkwardness in the atmosphere, both of you getting your footing together after so much time apart. It almost feels wrong to be in his bedroom, but then you remember you spent nearly every day here not so long ago.
“I’m sorry it’s a mess,” he smiles weakly. “Unpacking hasn’t exactly been my top priority.”
“Don’t apologize,” you insist, standing in the doorway as he kicks his messy suitcase to a corner of the room. “Was it ever clean before you moved?” you tease, more and more of that weight being lifted off your shoulders with each lighthearted comment, each joke and laugh and smile given and received.
“Sometimes!” he defends, immediately relenting. “Okay, no, it’s always a mess.”
“I really need to get going, Eddie. I need to see my parents at least for a little bit today,” you tell him, glancing at the clock.
“Will I see you back at Steve’s later?” he asks.
“I was hoping I could hitch a ride with you,” you say shyly.
He beams, pearly white teeth shining at you. He could light the entire city with that smile.
“Of course you can. I’ll pick you up, say around six?”
“Six is perfect,” you smile, moving toward him to give his arm a squeeze. “I really fucking missed you.”
He exhales, taking both of your hands in his. “I missed you more than I can even say. I hope you believe me. If I could take this whole year back, start over, I would.”
You don’t reply, just nod at him with empathetic eyes. You know he means it. You do believe him.
“I’ll see you later, okay?”
“Okay,” he says. “Be safe getting to your parents, alright?”
You nod again, smiling at him before you put your coat back on, saying goodbye to Wayne and walking out into the cold.
•
Opening gifts with your parents was a good reprieve from the emotional whirlwind of a morning that you’d had, simply sharing in their joy and having lighthearted conversation. It felt good to feel good, that was for certain.
To have a happy Christmas, a happy day, finally. There was still much to be discussed with Eddie, but you felt at ease now that you’d finally poured your heart out to him. You can’t really stay angry with him, because your heart knows he never meant to cause you so much pain.
Six o’clock rolls around surprisingly quickly, a knock sounding at your door as you give yourself a once over in your mirror. Smoothing down your velvet skirt for a final time, you turn to leave your room. As you’re about to flip off the light, though, your jewelry box catches your eye.
You walk over to your dresser where it sits on the top, opening the lid. Eddie’s necklace sits with its broken chain on top of the other miscellaneous jewelry, the initialed pendant gleaming right at you. There’s another knock on your door, and you hurriedly rummage through the clutter to find a spare chain, one that hadn’t been ripped in half.
You let the pendant fall from the old chain, slipping it onto the new one as you walk quickly to the door.
Swinging it open, Eddie’s sweet face greets you on the other side. The things you would’ve given to see him greeting you all those torturous months when he was gone. And now he’s here. He looks gorgeous; wearing what might be his only pair of black jeans that aren’t ripped, along with a deep green flannel that slightly pokes out beneath a dark gray sweater. You want to devour him, you realize. But that will have to wait — the time will come eventually.
“Oh, thank god. I was starting to think you weren’t gonna answer,” he jokes, playing off the comment with a slight laugh. You can see in his face that a small part of him really was concerned you’d bail.
“Sorry, I was looking for something,” you say, stepping aside to let him in.
“Oh? Did you find whatever it was?”
“Mhm. Would you mind putting it on me?” you ask, holding out the necklace to him.
He looks at it, his eyes softening when he recognizes the pendant.
“You still have this,” he muses, surprise evident in his tone. Like he thought you’d get rid of it. You truthfully never could have.
“It’s important to me,” you tell him, glancing up at him through your lashes. “I… broke the original chain. One night when I took it off. I-I’m not proud of it and I’m sorry. Because this gift is so important to me. It was the only piece I had of you,” you admit, pouring your truth and your heart into his open hands.
“Sunny, you don’t have to apologize. You still have it, I’m so glad you do.”
He smiles, a warm and wonderful thing, before he motions for you to turn around. He drapes the pendant over your head, letting it rest on your chest while he fidgets with the clasp at the back. You nearly want to cry as he puts it on you; you didn’t get the chance for him to do this when he’d gifted it to you. You’d put it on alone, in painful tears, wishing it would bring him back.
“Okay, I think it’s good,” Eddie murmurs, his gaze soft when you turn back around to face him.
“What do you think?” you ask, biting on your lip.
“It’s a beautiful necklace for an even more beautiful person,” he says, calm and collected, his words steady and meaningful. “I’m just sorry it took me this long to see you wearing it.”
You feel your cheeks flush, smiling as you pull your coat on and grab hold of the bottle of wine you’d bought to bring to Steve’s.
“Ready?” you ask, shy beneath the way he stares at you; like he never wants to look at anything but you.
“You know it,” he says, jingling his car keys before opening the door for you.
Your foot taps nervously on the floor of the car the whole ride to Steve’s home, butterflies twirling in your stomach at the thought of your arrival with Eddie. After your outburst yesterday, you were admittedly a little embarrassed, and now to show up with the man you’d just walked out on… well, what a roller coaster. Tension hangs thick between the two of you, the mutual acknowledgment of what maybe almost happened earlier before Wayne had interrupted blinking like a neon sign. He had definitely almost kissed you, and the thought makes your stomach swirl.
Neither of you really talk much, not knowing what to say. Sitting in silence and enjoying the company of the other feels like enough, for now. You can’t help but smile to yourself as you look at the pretty decorated houses that you pass, heart soaring with the knowledge that you have Eddie back, and with it comes the holiday cheer you’d been missing.
Before long the clunky van is pulling into Steve’s driveway, parking behind Nancy’s car. Eddie kills the engine, telling you to stay put so he can jog around to your side and get the door for you. He extends a hand, helping you down into the slippery concrete as you clutch the wine bottle tight in your other hand.
“Why thank you,” you giggle, not missing the way his cheeks grow pink.
“Anything for you, m’lady,” he salutes, reaching in behind you to grab your purse for you.
You take a deep breath as you start to walk up to the front door, arm tangled with Eddie’s so you don’t slip and in the slushy mess. You can sense his nerves, too, as he knocks on the door. You glance to the side, smiling at him and watching him return the gesture.
Steve opens the door, wearing reindeer antlers and a red Christmas sweater. He stops in his tracks when he sees both of you, a smug grin spreading on his lips.
“Well, would you look at that?” he says, crossing his arms over his chest. “I missed seeing you two attached at the hip,” he jokes, stepping aside to let you both in.
“Yeah, yeah,” Eddie says, squeezing the other man’s shoulder. What you don’t see is the way Steve gives him a celebratory fist bump, mouthing a silent “yes!”.
Heads turn the second you and Eddie are inside, and you watch as Nancy and Robin beam at the sight. Jonathan gives you both a pointed but subtle thumbs up, and his smile says it all.
“Look at you two!” Robin exclaims, and you unravel your arm from Eddie’s to give her a hug.
“Okay, guys, we’re the spectacle of the evening, we get it,” Eddie laughs, giving her a hug after you.
“I won’t lie, I missed seeing you two arriving places together. You used to basically be conjoined,” Nancy jokes, taking the wine from you. She moves swiftly into the kitchen, getting out a few glasses to pour some. She hands you a glass, along with one for herself and Robin.
“Wait, hey, let me catch up!” Eddie says, grabbing a beer for himself from the fridge.
Steve and Jonathan gather around with their drinks, too, everyone raising their glasses and bottles high.
“Cheers, to Sunny and Eddie,” Nancy says, smiling brightly as everyone clinks their drinks together before taking a sip. Her toast makes you flustered, heart beating rapidly in your chest.
The wine goes down easy, warming your stomach with a pleasant tingle. This is how things should be. The hole in your friend group filled by the person you’d all been missing. The energy in the room is brighter, better. Eddie is needed here, not only by you.
Robin puts on one of Steve’s many Christmas records, letting the music fill the room along with your blended voices chattering happily. You’re talking with the girls, filling them in on what happened since last night. Your eyes keep wandering to wherever Eddie is, noticing him standing in the sun room with Steve. They’re talking about something you can’t hear, looking out the window into the snow covered backyard. You start to walk towards him, telling the girls you’ll be back in a bit, but stop at Jonathan first where he sits on the couch.
“Thank you. For helping me sort through my feelings,” you tell him, giving his hand a squeeze.
“I hardly did anything. You made this choice yourself,” he says, squeezing your hand right back. “I’m so happy for you, Sunny. It’s good to see you happy.”
“You’re the best, you know that?” you ask him, giving him one last grateful look before walking away.
“Gentlemen,” you say, announcing yourself as you step into the other room with the two men. You hope you aren’t interrupting anything too important, but staying away from Eddie is the last thing you want right now.
“There she is,” Steve says, pulling you into his side. You laugh, reaching a hand up to mess up his hair.
“Hey, hey— watch the antlers!” he defends, slipping out of reach.
“Do you mind if I have a minute alone with him?” you ask Steve, motioning to Eddie with your thumb.
“No, no. Of course not. Behave yourselves,” he winks, slipping out as he takes a sip of his beer.
“What’s up, sweetheart?” Eddie asks, moving in on you, wrapping an arm tentatively around your waist. His expression eases up when you relax into his touch, smiling blissfully up at him.
“I just thought we should pick up where we left off earlier…” you say, poking his chest softly with a finger and letting it trail down.
“Oh? And where exactly did we leave off?” he smirks, pressing his body closer to yours.
“I think… that you were about to kiss me again,” you murmur, hooded eyes looking up into his.
“Interesting theory,” Eddie jokes, placing a hand to his chin as if pondering this. You slap him lightly on the arm, giggling like a schoolgirl at him. “You might be right about that, sweetness,” he admits, dropping his face down closer to yours.
Your noses brush, the smell of his cologne and shampoo overwhelming your senses. He still uses the same stuff he did a year ago, turns out.
Your eyes focus in on his soft lips, the way his tongue darts out to wet them slightly. And then you let your eyelids flutter closed, feeling his other arm wrap around you, pulling you impossibly closer. His lips press to yours, so soft and hesitant at first, before gaining more confidence. You hold the back of his neck with one hand, fingers tangling in his curls, taking in his warmth and softness. Your mouths move together perfectly, two pieces of a puzzle finally brought together. The same fireworks you felt that first time go off again, yet this time they somehow feel even brighter. You’d waited so long for this, wondered if you would ever get this, and now it’s happening.
His tongue prods gently into your mouth, ever so slightly dancing around yours. His lips are so plush and gentle, and he smiles into the kiss with a soft little laugh. Pulling away, he rests his forehead to yours.
“You can tell me I’m crazy for this if you want to, okay? If it’s too soon, I get it. But I have to know if you’ll be mine,” he says, eyes darting back and forth between each of your own.
“Eddie,” you breathe, smiling wider than you have all night. “I’m all yours. I’ll be yours forever,” you promise, wrapping both arms around his neck and pulling him into one more passionate kiss.
“Okay, lovebirds!” Robin calls from the living room. You both turn your heads to see everyone watching you, and your cheeks flush.
“Didn’t know we had an audience,” Eddie says softly, only for you to hear, making you laugh again.
“Are you guys coming out to make a snowman with us, or what?” Steve asks, hands on his hips as he waits.
“Yeah, yeah, we’ll be right there!” Eddie calls back. “We’re just making up for lost time,” he adds, winking at you before planting a wet, sloppy kiss to your cheek.
You feel whole in this moment, with Eddie’s arm around your waist. What you thought would be a horrible Christmas turned out to be the brightest one, and having Eddie home is the best gift you could’ve asked for; even if it was a rocky start. He’s yours, and you’re his. This is the way it should always be, you’re undoubtedly certain of that now.
“Let’s go, sweetheart,” he says. “Forever starts right now.”

I am ready to make my BATFAMILY problem everyone else’s problem again, I have just woken up and I am choosing violence. And by violence, I mean that a whole bunch of these fics made me laugh or wriggle around in pure love for these chaos gremlins or just straight up cried my way through like 30k+ of fic in one night and I want everyone else to experience that same gamut of emotion. Especially because I have a Dick Grayson Problem and I’m going to make you all deal with that, but in return, you all get to make me deal with your Jason Problem, your Tim Problem, your Damian Problem, etc., because now those problems are my problems, too.
So you may have to scroll a bit to find what you’re looking for, but I hope there will be some fun stuff for almost every Bat character here, and I’m tearing my way through as much fic as I can as fast as I can, but if you want to make more fic my problem in return, please feel free. What else is fandom for, if not for trying to make each other cry four times in a 10k fic?

Separated, Bruce can only watch and hope that someone finds them before it’s too late.
✦ Smile by glassofwater, dick & bruce, ~1k
Sometimes, Bruce can’t help but miss his son’s old smiles.
✦ cut down by Squishychickies, dick & bruce & jason & alfred & damian, 4.1k
Maybe I am sad, he thinks, if only because it’s smart to go down that avenue before discounting it entirely. Scientists are open to all possible conclusions. Perhaps Dick is, in fact, sad. Dick is depressed. He has Bruce’s support.
✦ After the Wake by nighhtwing (divineauthor), dick & bruce & alfred & jason & cast, 1.6k
Fathers should not bury their children. Or: When Jason dies, Dick comes home, and Bruce muses on being a parent.
BATFAM FIC RECS - EVERYBODY LOVES DICK:
✦ When Destiny Doesn’t Care by withthekeyisking, dick & bruce & damian & jason & cast, read the tags, 9.9k
Breeches are opening all across the world, admitting people randomly from other Earths. One such person is Dick Grayson. Or, as he’s better known on Earth-2950, Deathstroke.
✦ When it Rains by sElkieNight60, dick & bruce & jason & tim & damian & cassandra, 7.7k
“What about yourself, Richard?” asks the reporter, widening her own insincere smile to match as she turns her torso half an inch towards him. “As the eldest I am sure you are simply overjoyed to have your brother back but, might I ask: why is it, do you think, that you are the only one of Mister Wayne’s children that he hasn’t formally adopted?”
✦ I broke free on a Saturday morning by daringyounggrayson, dick & roy & bruce & cast, 10k
Spring break is coming up, but between a canceled family vacation and an ongoing fight with Bruce, Dick’s not exactly looking forward to it. He decides that the only way to get through the two-week break with his sanity intact is by taking an unauthorized road trip to California. He convinces Roy to come with him, conveniently leaving out the fact that Dick doesn’t have permission from Bruce to go. Everything goes well up until it doesn’t.
✦ One More Day by EagleInFlight, dick & damian & john/mary & jason & tim & alfred, 12.6k
Damian saves a dog—who was a goddess of the dead in disguise. She offers him a gift: the chance to spend a week with a deceased loved one. Damian decides to give his gift to someone else. /OR/ Dick Grayson reunites with his parents.
✦ Skating is something you don’t do in Gotham by glassofwater, dick & bruce & damian & cast, 4.6k Winter in Gotham isn’t always pleasant, and trying to wait out a drug deal in below freezing temperatures makes it all the more unbearable. It would have been tolerable, at least somewhat, if he had seen the ice.
✦ starlight raining over me by charcoal_moon, dick & hal & wally & barry & jinx & cast, 23.6k
The Flying Graysons fall in Coast City instead of Gotham, and Dick Grayson’s path to heroism involves a hell of a lot more faith, trust, and alien tech than anyone ever expected.
✦ i want to wake up (i hate this dream) by CamsthiSky, dick & alfred, 2.3k
Sometimes, Dick feels like a zombie. Like he’s the walking dead. Like nothing will ever be good again. Sometimes, he takes too much weight onto his shoulders, and he never puts it down. There’s a point where he crumbles to dust underneath all that weight, and there’s nothing for him to do but ride the breakdown and wait until he can bear the weight and start the whole process over again.
✦ if you just call me by BeatriceEagle, dick & donna & cast, 9.1k
Dick and Donna, after the action, through the years.
BATFAM FIC RECS - JASON TODD IS AN ASSHOLE CAT, I’M GONNA THROW HIM AT DICK BECAUSE IT’S FUNNY (AND MAYBE SOME OF HIS OTHER SIBLINGS TOO):

Dick returns from patrol and finds his Robin waiting up for him. He carries Dami to bed and things get fluffy.
✦ Wheel and Blade by Kieron_ODuibhir, dick & damian, 2.4k
Damian was waiting in the penthouse when Dick got there, all expectant expression and confrontational stance. Dick closed the door behind him and let himself be confronted. “You didn’t get expelled,” he announced. This was, unsurprisingly, not greeted with relief. (In our house there are many legacies.)
✦ what life without you’s like by dizarys, dick & damian & alfred & bruce, 1.3k
Dick threw the door open, leaping over the hood of the Batmobile and wrenching open the passenger door. His cowl was already down, letting Alfred see the undiluted fear on his face as he reached into the car. “He only stopped screaming a few minutes ago. I think he made himself pass out.” Alfred’s gut twisted when Dick straightened, Robin cradled in his arms.

BATFAM FIC RECS - BATKIDS ALL HAVE MANY SIBLINGS AND THEY’RE ALL PETTY ASSHOLES AND/OR WONDERFUL BABIES AND I LOVE THEM WITH MY WHOLE BEING:
✦ The Return by silverwhittlingknife, dick & tim & cast, 10.8k
“Tim? Can you open your eyes for me?“ It takes a bit, but Tim must be at least sort of coherent, because he blinks obediently. Dark, dark eyes, dilated. Concussion, almost for sure. Both pupils are equally large, so they’ve avoided a worse injury. But his eyes aren’t tracking or focusing, lost in space. “Tim, do you know where you are?” Tim’s forehead is all tense, like he’s thinking hard. “I,” he hazards after a long moment, “I fell?” Red Robin 11 and 12, from Dick’s POV. Tim comes home.
✦ you are somebody’s baby; some mother held you near by nosecoffee, bruce & dick & jason & tim & cast, 11.9k
“Oh my god,” Nightwing whispers, echoing through their comms like a twig snapping underfoot when you’re trying to be silent. He and Batgirl go stiff and silent, barely daring to breathe. “B, oh my god. How many…?” The tone in his voice — he sounds like he’s about to cry. There were six kids on our radar, Jason thinks, erratically. Six. “I don’t know, Nightwing.”
✦ and the shapes that you drew may change beneath a different light by popsunner, tim & damian (& dick), 5.4k
Damian is around a lot more since Dick died, hovering like he’s looking for something that isn’t here anymore. It’s alright. Tim is used to playing the part of ghosts. Or: Dick is dead. Things change
✦ utter my love by dizarys, tim & bruce & dick & jason & damian & tim/bernard, 5.6k
“Dick!” Bernard greeted him with a smile. A heartbeat later, it melted away. Bernard’s knuckles went white around the edge of the door. “What happened?” Dick didn’t know what he’d done to give it away but there was no point in beating around the bush. “Tim’s been shot.” The aftermath of Tim’s injury in Batman #125
✦ long distance by unchosenone, dick & tim, 1.6k
Six months—months—radio silence, and Tim is calling him. Dick doesn’t even know where Tim is. He scrambles for the phone.
✦ A Smile Safecrackers Understand by chapstickaddict, clark/bruce/diana & dick & jason & tim & duke & cast, 44.6k wip
Seven times a Justice League member helped out a BatFam kid, making a reluctant friend for life in Bruce Wayne. And one time he thanked them for it.
✦ We’ve Taken Different Paths, Traveled Different Roads by Sohotthateveryonedied, dick & tim, 2.2k
Dick is suddenly very awake. He bolts upright, staring at the dimly lit figure. “Tim?” “Hi, Dick,” Tim whispers. He isn’t in uniform for once, instead wearing a pair of sweats and a shirt that Dick recognizes as one of Bruce’s. Dick was wondering where that went. “Jesus, kid,” Dick exhales, an uncertain mixture of disbelief and bafflement. “What are you doing here?” Tim and Dick are still in a fight of sorts, or are they? Have they made up yet, or is the terrain still cracked? Dick wants so badly to ask, but just having Tim in the same room as him is already more than Dick could have hoped he’d get.
✦ Subject Hostile, Proceed with Caution by emiv, bruce/selina & dick & jason & tim, 1.1k
Bruce preps the boys for an upcoming mission. (Post-TLYS)

Tim can sometimes be a little shit, but Kon has gotten pretty good at reading his moods. Besides, they both kind of like it.
✦ Boss Me Around by egg_thief, tim/kon, NSFW, transmasc!tim, dom/sub elements, 2k
Tim suddenly pulls away. “I didn’t tell you to move,” he muses, his voice dangerously low. “I need you to be a good boy, ok?” Kon swallows, his mouth having gone dry at Tim’s words. When and where did he learn all of-? Never mind. It doesn’t matter. What matters is the way that his words make Kon’s dick jump, his heart quickening in pace.
✦ Top Shelf Goods by JpegDotJpeg, tim/kon & cassie & bart, 4k
Or, Tim pretends to be Conner’s boyfriend, just to help him avoid unwanted attention. Because that’s what friends do. Pretend to be romantically involved even though they are definitely not interested in each other in that way and it would totally never happen. Definitely.
✦ Take My Word for It by rotasha, tim/kon, NSFW, 8.6k
Tim has been hiding his mental health problems from Kon. Kon can tell something is wrong when it starts affecting their relationship. He may be out of his depth, but he’ll do whatever he can to make his boyfriend happy.

Thinking a lot today about House and Wilson being each other’s safe space.
- House going to Wilson when he’s having a bad pain day
- Wilson going to House when he needs a break from being Mr. Nice Guy and just, letting himself get angry and House encouraging him to let it out
- House calling Wilson to say “bring me lunch in my office” which to anyone else sounds rude and demanding but Wilson knows it means House is too overstimulated for the cafeteria. Wilson brings him safe foods and they eat in companionable silence.
- Wilson pranking House not just to give House a puzzle to solve but because he needs to let his own inner chaos gremlin™️ run free. House sometimes figures it out quickly but doesn’t let on, because he knows Wilson needs to let his wild side out more.

DedSpec Phantom Saga Chapter 4
Break Day In New York
The weeks had been hard and long for the Phantom Thieves. Dealing with two Palace's at once was much more than they had been use to.
But they where all amazed by how well they where doing, and how much their new friend Nolan was doing. His connection evolving almost endlessly, able to debuff the opponent to a state of powerlessness while Futaba had did her thing with buffing the party itself. Both Palace's almost not even a challenge at this point.
Floor after floor was cleared like clockwork. Despite the obstical. A strange puzzle here, tricking guards there, giant boss Shadow around that corner. It was rather entertaining, in a way. Despite the terrible stuff they saw throughout their travels higher and higher into the building, they where begining to grow tired.
They where nearly there. And that was good. With a deadline of May 3rd, it was currently April 20th and the group was in a desperate need for a break.
"So, everyone ready to go?" The leader of the team, the Joker of the team, asked as she looked around. Rin Amamiya having a hand on her hips as she looked across the members of the Phantom Thieves
"I'm all good, Joker. Got my purse right here." Panther, AKA Ann Takamaki, smiled and waved. Showing off a rather cute heart shaped purse
"I have all the snacks and drinks we could require." Noir, the alias of Haru Okumara, said in her every sweet tone as she showed off her backpack
"Good. Fast food places are expensive and we don't want to waste too much money." Queen, the strategist of the team who under the iron clad mask went by the name Makoto Niijima, sighed as she crossed her arms and cocked her hip
"Hehehe~, I can't wait to go and get more stuff for my computer! Oh, there are so many parts I need!" Oracle, the Navigator of the Phantom Thieves, giggled. Oracle, real name Futaba Sakura, giggled to herself like the little gremlin she could be, Rin's adopted sister looking at the teams leader with a glint in her eyes
"No, 'Taba. We are just going for essentials." Rin sighed, rubbing her forehead. With a deep sigh she looked up, a hand on her hip as she did a quick double check and blinked "Has anyone seen Nolan?"
And was met with silence, everyone wondering where the Basilisk was....

Just Imagine Bakugou with a daughter that has daddy issues: Part 3
You asked and shall receive <3
[Part 1 –> Part 2]
NOTE: I'm so sorry it took me so long to write this! I hope you like it :) Also, since many anons requested a Part 3 but each request had a different concept, i decided to try and combine them all into one post. I hope that's alright with you <3
English is not my first language so, sorry if you find any spelling mistakes.
Btw, (D/n) = Daughter's name.
"Just so you know, Mum made me agree to this."
"I know but you could've still denied her and stay home instead of going on a walk with me."
"Tch."
Bakugou knew this wouldn't be easy from the moment he saw that annoyed look on your daughter's face, the same look he has himself whenever the paparazzi crowd him, according to his parents.
"So, how have you been lately?" He asks her, trying to break the ice. She stares at him for a moment, with the same crimson eyes that he has and shoves her hands inside the pockets of her dark green hoodie. Her Deku hoodie. "Good" She answers, averting her eyes from him.
"How are things at school? Do you like UA?"
"Yeah..."
"Your classmates, your teacher? Everything's alright with them?"
"With my classmates, yeah. They're cool. My teacher though..." she sighs, shaking her head. "He's a weirdo. He calls me and Reiko problem children all the damn time for some reason unknown to us and likes to sleep all the time."
"Reiko?"
"Reiko Midoriya." Ah, yes. Deku's brat.
"Let me guess, you have Aizawa as your homeroom teacher." She suddenly turns her head, looking at him with wide eyes full of surprise. "How did you–"
"He calls me from time to time to scold me for the way i handle some situations and vice versa. At some point, he called to tell me that he has a little girl in his class that radiates gremlin energy and who looks awfully like me."
Her mouth falls open and makes the shape of the letter "O".
"I do not radiate gremlin energy!" She frowns, clenching her jaw.
Bakugou chuckles and gives her a playful, lop sided smile. "Ah, yes you do."
"And how do you know that?" She asks. You don't live with me and Mum to know." Silence. Deafening fucking silence. Bakugou stops walking and stares blankly at the space before him. And to think this conversation was going so well so far... He clenches his fists and takes a deep breath, trying to keep his cool and looks at your daughter with an annoyed expression on his face.
"You know..." he starts saying. "You're the one who doesn't let me get to know you better. You realise that, right? No matter how much i try to spend time with you, you just don't let me."
"Jeez, i wonder why" she mumbles under her breath.
"It's been nine years, (D/n)!" he suddenly yells, making her flinch and take a step back. "It's been nine fucking years! I've been trying for nine fucking years and you–"
"Don't fucking put the blame on me! You left!" Your daughter yells back, pointing a finger at him. "You fucking left! You were out of my life for two fucking years! No calls, no texts, no nothing! And for what? For some stupid fucking cunt!"
"Don't bring my wife into this!"
"I will do whatever the fuck i want to!" She screams, anger thrumming through her veins and trembling with rage. "You left me! You fucking abandoned me remember? You abandoned me! Mum had to lie to me every fucking day about you! That you were on some secret fucking mission and that you weren't allowed to communicate with us! I was worried sick about you until i saw you one night on the damn TV, talking about that cunt and about your damn son!"
"I didn't want to–"
"Do you know how i felt the moment i saw you talking on that damn show?" Her voice cracks, eyes shining with the threat of tears. "Do you? I felt so fucking relieved. Finally, i remember thinking. He's back from that stupid mission. Safe and alive. Now, he can come back home and talk to me, spend time with me and help me train my quirk. I was so fucking ecstatic, so fucking excited until you started talking about her and about your son. I'm not stupid. I put the pieces together. It wasn't so hard for me to realise that the mission Mum was talking about didn't exist."
"I remember this one time" she chuckles, looking at everything except him with big, fat tears running down her face. "I was badly hurt during a training exercise. Mum had to take me to the hospital. I remember her dialing your number and calling, trying to reach you out so many times but you never picked up the phone. Thankfully, Shoto was there so i started to feel slightly better but that's not the fucking point." She sobs, trying to keep herself from completely breaking down. "You see what you do to me now? This is why i never agree to spend time with you, god fucking damnit!"
Bakugou grabs your daughter's shaking, sobbing figure and brings her towards him. He wraps his big arms around her and hugs her tightly. He places his head on top of her own and closes his eyes, trying to keep his own tears from spilling.
"Why did you leave? Why did you leave me, dad?" He hears her whimper on his chest. Fuck, she hasn't called him that in years. "Why did you leave me?"
He looks ahead for a moment, trying to find the right words to comfort his daughter.
"I never wanted to leave you, sweetheart" he whispers, rocking the both of them back and forth. "Never. I just...I just didn't want to make the same mistake again. I didn't want history to repeat itself and in the process, i made another mistake. The worst one. I hurt you. I left you when i shouldn't have and didn't think of the consequences, how it would affect you and i'm so so sorry, baby. I'm so sorry. You have every right to hate me. I don't blame you for trying to avoid me all these years, honey. You have every damn right."
"All I'm asking" he continues, his voice heavy with emotion, "Is to give me another chance. I know i don't deserve it but please, give me one chance to make things right with you. Just one. Please."
Eyes swollen from the tears shed just moments ago, she let's out a shaky breath and gently pushes him away. Bakugou lets her and takes a step back to give her some space.
"I just..." She starts to say brokenly, blinking the tears away and avoiding eye contact. "I don't think i can ever forgive you for leaving." Fuck. Fuck, fuck fu–
Bakugou feels a great pang grip his heart and he forces himself to nod, misery written all over his face.
"But..." She continues, her eyes now shining with hesitance, making him look at her with a hopeful expression.
"I would like to try."

Pumpkin Pranks
I thought it would be fun to write a little silly fic featuring teen Eri! and her Halloween pranks.
Relationship: Izuku Midoriya X Reader
Word Count: 800
QUINN'S MASTERLIST
"Hey Honey," Izuku walked through the door and lazily slipped off his shoes. "I'm home."
Silence greeted him, but he knew that couldn't be the case. You said you'd be home all afternoon, getting everything ready for tonight's party. He could still smell the lingering sweet scent of whatever you had decided to bake.
"Y/N?" He ventured into the kitchen, eyeing the plate of steaming pumpkin cookies that just begged to be eaten. "Hello?"
Still no response. Maybe you stepped out to get some supplies?
His stomach rumbled as he neared the plate. There was no time to eat lunch today because some villain thought it would be a good idea to rob the bank just down the street from his agency. Needless to say, things were handled quickly, but he still had to fill out paperwork over the event during his lunch break.
Those cookies sat there, mocking him, in all their pumpkin spicy glory, just waiting to be eaten by one rather hungry hero. Surely you wouldn't miss just one cookie? A quick glance around the empty apartment and he grabbed one off the top.
A warty goblin's face popped out from behind the cookies with a loud "BOO!"
Startled, Izuku dropped the cookie with a yelp and crashed into the counter behind him.
On the other side of the island was someone wearing a little gremlin mask, cackling. She removed the mask and nearly doubled over as she tried to catch her breath. You popped up next to her, hand over your mouth as you giggled through your fingers.
"Eri!" Izuku sputtered, face red as he tried to compose himself. "When did you get here?"
"Y/N picked me up from school." Eri finally managed to taper down her chortles and grabbed a cookie. "You should've seen the look on your face! And I got it on film! Kota's gonna love that."
As she laughed, you plucked the cookie from her hand. "Ah-ah, no sweets before dinner. Now, go wash up. Mirio and Aizawa are going to be here soon."
Eri pouted but set down the mask and headed for the bathroom. When she passed Izuku, she tackled him in a quick hug and then sprinted down the hallway.
You took a bite out of the cookie with a wink and sauntered around the island where your husband smirked at you.
"So, you picked up Eri?" He grabbed the cookie from your hand, or tried to anyway.
You pulled it out of his reach with a giggle and instead gave a sneaky kiss in its place. His hand snaked around your waist to pull you close and deepen the kiss.
"What happened to no sweets before dinner?" He asked once he pulled away, tasting the slightest bit of pumpkin on his lips.
"Ah, you're right," you sighed, hovering just above his lips and turned away. "No sweets then."
He only tightened his grip on you and tucked you firmly into his arms with a grin. "I suppose I can make an exception." He laughed and kissed you sweetly.
"Hey, is that a cookie!" Eri said behind you, hands on her hips.
Surprised, you both jumped away from each other. She smirked as you both blushed pink from being caught by the teen.
"It is!" She marched over and crossed her arms. "And what exactly were you two getting up to,hmm? In front of a poor innocent child, I might add."
"Innocent my butt," you muttered, not able to hide your exasperated chuckle. "Fine. One cookie. Don't tell Aizawa." You locked your pinky with hers.
She snatched a cookie off the pile and took a large bite. "Bribery? Not very heroic, Y/N."
"Says the one who's eating said bribe. What's with all this hero talk, huh? I thought you wanted to be a doctor or an awesome nurse like me?"
"I haven't decided yet," she chewed thoughtfully. "But maybe if I get another cookie, I could see the possibility of looking into medical school."
"She's been hanging out with you too much," Izuku tittered, glancing between the two of you. "She's turning into a mini you."
You crossed your arms, "And what's so wrong with that?"
"Yeah, what's wrong with that?" Eri mimicked, a mock scowl on her face.
He froze as he stared at the double glare leveled at him and raised his hands slowly. "…This is a trap. I'm just gonna go take my shower now."
Izuku escaped before he incurred any more wrath, and as soon as he disappeared, you both broke into laughter.
"Hey, do you think we can scare Mirio when he walks in? Oh, what about Dad?" She picked up the mask with a menacing grin.
"If you can manage to scare Aizawa, then I'll give you twenty bucks."
"You're on!"

The Repair Boy
Eddie Munson x Female reader
Authors note- hola my ghouls, gremlins, and fellow goblins. I’m back with another Eddie one shot. Likes and reblogs are always appreciated. <3
Warnings- 18++++ MINORS DO NOT INTERACT WITH MY WORK PLEASE. Foul language, Protected P in V smut, oral female and male receiving.
Summary- After your dad needs his guitar fixed you meet a rather handsome repair boy. 5.2k words
“Come on darlin I wanna get there before they close”
“You’re a grown man I don’t understand why I have to go with you”
“Cause I’m your father and I don’t want to go alone that’s why”
You grab your jacket and join your father on his way out the door. On the way out the door your dad picks his guitar case up off the ground and swings it around in his hand.
“Watch out with that thing dad! You’re lucky you don’t break it!”
“I’m already taking it to get repaired. What’s a little more damage.”
“I thought that thing was your precious baby?”
“Oh trust me she is. Now get in the car.”
You get in the car and your father drives to the local instrument store. You both walk in together and your father makes a beeline for the sales counter.
A woman greets him and asks what he’s there for. She points him in the direction towards the back of the store to the repair counter. Your father and yourself walk up to the counter and ring the bell. You wait a moment while you hear rummaging from the background and out pops this tall, gangly, (rather handsome) young fellow around your age holding a guitar.
Your father greets him with a smile and tells him the problems he’s having with his guitar. The young man listens intently while studying the guitar and even chimes in a few times to compliment the guitar. “An 81’ skylark huh? She’s a beaut” his voice has you weak in the knees.
It’s when you hear his voice you realise you’ve done nothing but stare down the poor boy since you got there. What else you notice is he hadn’t looked at you once. For all you knew he had no idea you were there.
“So sir for the repairs it’s gonna be about $40”
“Really only $40? That’s amazing. Darlin, did you hear that? Only $40 to fix my baby!” Your dad turns to face you and for the first time since you walked in the shop so does the repair boy. His eyes meet yours and you can tell he checks you out really fast by the way his eyes scan up and down your body.
He quickly coughs and turns his attention back to the counter in front of him.
He rings up your father and tells your father the guitar should be ready either later in the day or the next day and that he’d call when the guitar was ready. As he turns to leave you catch a glimpse of a tattoo on his arm. What appears to be a bat. The words seem to tumble out of your mouth before you can catch them.
“I like your tattoo.”
He stops and looks at you and then back down at his tattoo on his arm.
“Thanks.” There’s a silence between the two of you and your father clears his throat to get your attention. You turn away from the repair boy and make your way out the door with your father.
On the car ride home it’s relatively silent except for the music blasting from the radio. Until your dad breaks the silence.
“i rEaLLy LiKed yOuR tATtOo” he pretended to flip his hair and bat his eyelashes.
“Excuse me?”
“Oh come on sweetheart you were totally drooling over that boy.”
You blush and try to sputter out some excuse but nothing comes out. Instead your face just keeps getting deeper shades of red.
“It’s okay sweetheart breathe. And besides you’ll totally have a chance with him.”
“DAD! What the hell are you talking about?”
“Oh come on did you see how hard he was trying to not look at you cause I was there. And then the second he did look at you he looked like he was damn well about to faint on the floor.”
“Okay even if that was true what do you mean I totally have a chance with him. I’ll probably never see him again.”
“Sure you will.”
“When?”
“When you go by yourself to pick up my guitar whenever that boy calls.”
“What! Why!”
“Cause I work tonight so I will be sleeping when we get home and I will be sleeping tomorrow so you can go pick up the guitar by yourself.”
You go quiet on the rest of the car ride home. Thinking about that stupid boy. Hell you didn’t even know his name yet his smile and his long hair and his tattoos are all you can think about.
As you get home and day fades into night you await the phone call. It doesn’t Come. Instead you busy yourself with catch up assignments that you picked up from the school yesterday. You were hoping to impress some of your new teachers by having some schoolwork done before your first official day at Hawkins high.
As much as you try to distract yourself that boy keeps flashing through your mind. You wondered about him. Maybe he went to the same school you did and you didn’t even know it yet. What if you had classes together? What if what if what if. Eventually you realised none of your work was getting done and you decided to call it a night.
The next day you were going about your tasks of the day. Unpacking boxes and setting up furniture around the house when you hear a ring coming from the kitchen. The phone on the wall was ringing. You run over to the phone and answer it rather quickly. A female voice is on the phone much to your disappointment.
“The guitar is ready to be picked up whenever you’re ready.”
“Thank you very much. I’ll be there shortly to pick it up.”
You got dressed in a particularly cute outfit (that may or may not have shown a little too much cleavage) with some cute shoes to match. You got in your dads car and drove to the instrument shop.
Exiting the car you feel yourself starting to get a little nervous. Now that your dad wasn’t here to cockblock you. It was completely in your hands what to do with this boy. Would you chicken out and say nothing? What if your dad was wrong and the boy had absolutely 0 interest in you. Or worse what if the boy already had a girlfriend.
Shaking the thoughts out of your head you open the door to the shop and walk past the girl at the front desk and head straight to the back repair counter. At first you see nobody but as you get closer to the counter you can hear noises. Clanging and banging.
Then a loud bang followed by an “OUCH FUCK”
Then from under the counter pops out the boy from yesterday. Rubbing the top of his head in a soothing motion. You try not to giggle at the boy but you just can’t help it. When he hears your giggle his eyes snap over to you and where you’re standing. He clears his throat and you can see a blush fan across his face.
“Uh hi. How can I help you?”
“I was in here yesterday with my dad. I’m
Here to pick up his guitar.”
“Right! Right! Of course! Skylark girl. You said you liked my tattoo.”
“Yup! That’s me! So how’s my dads guitar? That thing is his baby and if it’s not in perfect condition when I get home I’m pretty sure he’ll kill both of us.”
“Oh don’t you worry I fixed her up real nice. She’s good as new.”
He turns around and grabs the guitar case out of a stack of other guitar cases. He turns back to you and sets the guitar on the counter.
“You wanna see it?”
“Can I?”
He pops open the case and lets you look at it. You go to touch it but quickly stop yourself out of habit and retract your hand.
“Something wrong, skylark?”
“Huh?”
“Well you aren’t touching the guitar you’re just kind of staring at it.”
“Oh. Right. Well I’m not really allowed to touch it. Like I said that thing is my dads baby. Pretty sure he loves it more than he loves me so touching it would just be a death sentence.”
“He’s not here you know. He’ll never know.”
“Somehow he would. He’s magic like that.”
“So you’re telling me your dad will let a complete stranger like me handle his guitar but he won’t let a sweet little thing like you touch it?”
You blush due to his words and the casual way he said it. Little did you know your blush didn’t go unnoticed.
“Yeah I guess so.”
“Well that’s a cryin shame. You play any instruments?”
“I actually have my own guitar and a keyboard but I don’t play much”
“So you have your own guitar and he still won’t let you touch his. Come on, he's not here. How about you show me how much you can play? Plus you’ll be testing it out for me. Seein how it plays after my repairs.”
You reach out to touch the guitar very slowly but this time your hand actually makes contact. It felt naughty touching the guitar after being told not to so many times. You pick up the guitar out of the case so gently as if it were made from glass. You sit in a nearby stool and begin to strum away. Playing a little tune you’d learned from a friend long before you moved here.
As you finished playing you look up to find the boy staring at you intently. He has a lopsided smile on his face.
When he sees you’re done playing he does a nice light clap. “So what's your name mystery guitar girl?”
“Y/n L/n”
“Pretty name for a pretty girl.”
You blush again and look away from him and down at the guitar in your lap. And to think you thought you’d be the one having to make the moves while he’s out here just openly flirting with you.
“So why haven’t I seen you around before? Pretty small town. I’m assuming you’re new around here. Or just visiting?”
“My dad and I just moved here actually.”
“You go to Hawkins high yet?”
“I start there Monday. I’ll be a senior.”
“Same here. Well I mean I already go there and technically I’ve been a senior for 3 years now but I’ll still be one when you get there on Monday.”
You laugh a little and shake your head.
“Jeez 3 years of senior year. I’d hate that.”
“Livin the dream sweetheart livin the dream.”
“You know guitar boy you’re pretty cool.”
“Oh fuck I forgot my name tag. I’m Eddie by the way. Eddie Munson.”
“Pretty name for a pretty boy.”
He smiles wildly at you and reaches out to shake your hand. There’s a bit of a spark when your hands touch that makes you jump back slightly. When you let go of his hand yours feels colder. Emptier.
“So I should take this guitar and get it back to my dad. But I was wondering what time you get off.”
Eddie stood there shocked. He knew the two of you had been flirting but no part of him actually expected you to ask him out. Hell if you knew what his reputation around town and at school was you probably wouldn’t be asking him this. But you’re new so all that influence hasn’t gotten to you yet. Maybe he can win you over before the masses do.
“I get off at 6…why?”
“Well I was wondering if you’d want to hangout with me. Maybe show me around town a bit. I haven’t been able to explore much.”
“I’d love to show you around sweetheart. It’s a date. Here give me your address and I’ll come pick you up when I’m off work so we aren’t taking two separate cars.”
You write down your address on the back of the receipt and hand it to him. Eddie closes the guitar case for you and hands it to you over the counter. You leave the shop and drive home with a wide smile on your face.
When you get home you find your father in the kitchen eating some food before his night shift at work.
“How’s my baby? Is she fixed?”
“Good as new pops good as new”
You gently set the guitar case down on the kitchen table and your dad wipes his hands clean before opening the case and gently picking up the guitar. He starts strumming away and a wide smile grows on his face.
“God I haven’t heard her play like that in quite a while. That boy really fixed her up. Even cleaned all the old stickers off. Should have given that boy a tip.”
Your father looks up at you and can’t help but notice the gentle smile and glow you seem to carry about you.
“Speaking of that boy. Howd it go?”
“Well he’s picking me up when he gets off work and he’s going to show me around town. If that’s alright?”
“That’s fine. Just remember to be safe. In every way.”
“DAD!”
“I'm just trying to make sure I don’t have any grandkids before you graduate highschool.”
You grab water from the fridge and turn to leave the room. You had a few hours to get ready for your date. Your dad leaves for work leaving you home alone.
Around 6 pm you begin putting the finishing touches on your outfit. As you get dressed you begin to blast Iron Maiden on the surround sound stereo. Singing along to run to the you barely hear the faint ringing of the doorbell. You quickly turn down the stereo and open the door. Your eyes are greeted by the site of Eddie standing there with a very wide smile on his face.
“Iron Maiden?” Is the first words out of his mouth.
“Yup love me some maiden. Pops raised me on the shit.”
“So skylark you ready?”
“Ready Eddie!”
You grab your jacket and turn off the stereo and follow Eddie to his van parked in your driveway. You reach for the door handle but Eddie beats you to it and opens the door for you. You climb in and buckle your seatbelt as he makes his way around the van and into the driver's seat.
“So Eddie, where around town are you gonna show me?”
“Well sweetheart we’ve got some cool spots in town that I thought you might like. But you’ll just have to see when we get there.”
Eddie lets you pick the music on the car ride and of course you choose some Iron Maiden. Eddie enjoys getting to sing along with you but he doesn’t sing very loud. Much rather preferring to hear your voice. After a bit of driving Eddie pulls into the parking lot of a building that says “Arcade” attached to a building that says “Family Video ''.
You begin to get excited. Back in your hometown you loved going to the arcade and you’re ecstatic to learn that Hawkins has one. Eddie looks over at you and can see the excitement written across your face and breathes a sigh of relief to see you’re happy. He gets out of the car first and makes his way around the van to open the door for you once more. You practically jump out of the van and grab his hand dragging him towards the arcade doors.
“Where should we start!? There’s so many games in here!”
“My friends Dustin and Max really like dig dug. Maybe start there?”
You sit on the stool in front of the machine and begin to play as Eddie stands behind you and watches. You’re very good at the game and after only a few tries you beat both max and Dustin’s high scores. Eddie knows the kids are gonna lose it when they see this.
“Shit sweetheart you’re pretty badass.”
“I wanna try that one over there. The one called dragons lair.”
“Go ahead sweetheart but I’ve been told it’s impossible to beat.”
“If my party and I can beat vecna I can totally beat some dragon and rescue a princess.”
Eddie is left dumbfounded by what he just heard. You start to rise from the dig dug machine and make your way over to the dragons lair game but Eddie gently grabs your arm and spins you to face him.
“You play D&D!?”
“Well yeah? That hard to believe munson?”
Eddie's thoughts are racing a million miles a minute. It’s like you’d stepped out of his wildest dreams. A girl who plays guitar, listens to maiden, plays games, plays D&D and is ridiculously hot, is on a date with him.
Eddie doesn’t think about what he does next. He leans in and leaves a quick peck on your lips and you squeak in surprise.
“Shit sorry! I just- well you’re really- and I just-“
You cut off his rambling by kissing him again. This time not just a peck but enough for your lips to meld to his plump soft lips. You both sigh into each other's mouths. Eventually you pull back with a bright smile on your face.
“I’ve wanted to do that since I walked into your shop yesterday.”
Eddies knees practically wobble. He can’t believe you’re real. He must be dreaming. But he lets you drag him over to dragon's lair and he watches as you rescue the princess on your first attempt. Because of course you do. He watches as you type in your initials and they go just above Lucas’s where he’d rescued princess Daphne. Now the princess is yours.
After you play a few more games and prove yourself to be even more of a badass, Eddie suggests you guys move on to the next phase of the night.
“Wait Eddie! Can we go next door and pick out a movie?”
“What?”
“Well I was thinking after we do whatever you have planned that we could go back to mine and watch a movie. My dad works nights so it would be just us.”
Oh. Oh. Eddie wasn’t prepared for this. The possibility of spending the night with you alone in your house. But how could he say no. Why would he say no? He’d have to be a mad man to turn down that opportunity.
“Well sure thing sweetheart.”
He walks you over to family video hand in hand and as the door swings open a voice calls out.
“Munson?”
“Eddie?”
You look up to see a rather handsome boy behind a counter and rather lovely looking girl with him. Both looking at you and Eddie hand in hand.
“Hey Steve. Hey Robs.” He guided you towards the counter with him and introduced you.
“So you and Munson areeeee?” Steve says with a raised brow.
Eddie opens his mouth to answer but nothing comes out. So you take over.
“We’re on a date.”
Steve and Robin both look surprised as does Eddie. Eddie is shocked that you’d admit to being on a date with him and both Steve and Robin are surprised he has a date in the first place. You look around and note everyone’s surprise.
“Am I missing something?”
“No nope, not at all sweetheart. Here how about you go pick out a movie while I catch up with Steve. Robin, how about you go help her pick out a movie.”
Robin comes from behind the counter and walks with you to the horror section where you begin to pick out a movie. Robin decided to test your intentions with her friend.7
“So you and Munson huh? What made that happen?”
“Well I just moved here and met Eddie at the instrument store yesterday. Couldn’t stop thinking about him to be honest.”
“Aww that’s cute. So what are you guys up to?”
“Well he took me to the arcade and we’re gonna do some stuff after this although he won’t tell me what. And the. We’re going to go to my house and watch a movie.” You grab the shining and The Thing. You look over at Eddie talking to Steve and you can’t help but wonder what they’re saying. There’s no doubt in your mind they’re talking about you but you want to know why Eddie’s got such a wide smile on his face.
“Dude how the hell did you score her?”
“I didn’t man. She just kind of wanted me. It was wild. She’s amazing man. We’ve only known each other for like a day but I’m pretty sure we were made for each other man.”
Steve puts a hand on Eddie’s shoulder and gives him a light hit.
“Congrats man. So what are you two up to.”
“Well, I just took her to the arcade. Which she was a total badass at by the way. Then I'm gonna take her to the diner to get some food. And then I guess now we’re going back to her place to watch a movie.”
“Back to her place huh?” Steve says with a raised brow. “You ready for that munson?”
“Actually, no. Wasn’t really planning any of this today.”
Steve looks over his shoulder to make sure you aren’t looking. Luckily you seem to be in a conversation with Robin. He quickly reaches in his pocket and retrieves his wallet and pulls out a condom and slides it over the counter towards Eddie who’s face quickly turns a deep shade of red and swipes the condom off the counter and shoves it into his wallet.
After talking a little more you make your way back to the counter with Eddie where he wraps an arm around your shoulder. Robin and Steve check out your movies and send the two of you on your way. On the way out you turn around and see Steve and Robin high-five through the window. You smile to yourself.
After getting in Eddie’s van he drives you to a nearby diner called Bennys and the two of you order a couple burgers and fries and a single milkshake to share. You’re sitting on the same side of the booth and he keeps his arm around your shoulder the entire time.
You both spend hours talking and learning more about each other but somehow it feels like you two have known each other for millennia. At the end of the meal they bring the check and Eddie pulls out his wallet to pay for the meal. When he opens his wallet a double XL condom falls on the table in front of your face and Eddie tries to grab it as fast as he can but knows you’ve already seen it. His face goes deep red.
All you do is kiss his cheek and lean up to whisper in his ear. “Wanna go watch those movies now?”
He nods his head yes a little too eagerly making you giggle. He leaves the money on the table and the two of you run out of the restaurant giggling like children.
The drive back to your house was very fast. Considering Eddie didn’t stop once. The van comes to a stop and Eddie gets you out of the van and the first thing you do is kiss him. You guys kiss all the way till he has you pressed up against your front door.
Through breaths you say. “Eddie-“ kiss “I need-“ kiss “to open” kiss “the door” kiss kiss kiss.
He finally takes a step back and lets you open the door but the second the two of you are in the house you’re back on each other again. You kiss him and guide him all the way to your bedroom. Your hands are tangled in his hair and his hands are roaming your body. He squeezes your hips and pulls your body flush against his where you can feel a rather prominent bulge pressed against you. A part of you had wondered in the diner if he’d really need a double XL condom but now you were thinking that even that may be a little small.
You guide him to your bed until his knees his the mattress and he pulls you down on top of him as you two fall onto the mattress. Neither of you breaking the makeout session.
You sit yourself on top of him and begin to grind down onto his bulge making him groan into your mouth and you begin to moan back when he bucks his hips up to meet yours.
“Sweetheart.”
You stop kissing for a second. Both out of breath with kiss bruised lips.
“Yeah Eddie?”
“Unless you want me to blow my load in my jeans I think we should-“
You’ve already got the message so you sit up straight and start removing your clothes. Eddie sits up and starts removing his clothes as well and you can’t help but get distracted by his tattoo littered body. He notices you’re staring.
“Like what you see sweetheart?”
“Very much.” You lean forward and start to leave kisses on each of the tattoos you see. You leave kisses all the way down his torso and his happy trail and you stop right above his boxers. You look up at Eddie who has his head thrown back and is breathing heavily. You’ve never seen a prettier sight.
“Eddie?” Your voice is so soft and seductive it makes Eddie’s dick twitch in his boxers. He looks down at you in nothing but your bra and underwear and he’s ready to bust any second.
“Can I suck you off?”
And now he knows he must be dreaming. There’s no way you’re real. He knows he’s going to cum embarrassingly fast but he can’t find it in him to say no. Especially not when you’re looking up at him like that.
“Y-yeah.”
You smile and slide his boxers down his legs and let them on the floor. His dick flops up and almost hits his belly button. You’ve never seen a dick as impressive as his. It makes you press your thighs together. You see the precum leaking from the tip and you can’t help yourself. You lunge forward and lick the tip. Eddie let’s out a raspy moan. You then spit a glob on him and rub it down his shaft. You start to jerk him a little faster and Eddie’s moaning gets more frequent and higher pitched. His back starts to arch off the bed and you realize this poor boy is falling apart just from your touch. You decide to speed up the process and take him in your mouth. You begin to Bob your head up and down. He lets out a loud groan and he can feel his balls tighten. His dick is twitching. He’s close. You know he is.
Eddie warns you that he’s going to cum and he expects you to take your head off his dick but you don’t and before he knows it he’s spilling down your throat. And you’re moaning around him as he releases. Eventually he catches his breath and sits up and sees you touching yourself.
“Baby baby no. Come here let me do that for you. You took care of me, it's only fair I return the favor.”
You crawl up and trade places with him on the bed. He leaves a trail of kisses all over your body. He unclasps your bra and throws it across the room. He finds your nipples are hard enough to cut glass. He takes each of you nipples into his mouth giving them equal attention as his hand glides down your body and into your panties where he finds your soaked form.
It takes him a moment but when he finds your clit he starts to play you like a guitar. You're practically singing for him and he’s pretty sure he can get you to come from his fingers on your clit alone. But he doesn’t want that. He wants to taste you. So he makes his way down your body and slides your panties down your legs and discards them with the rest of the clothing.
When he finally sees your glistening pussy staring at him he can’t help but dig in and start eating you out like a man starved. You’re reaching for the sheets, his hair, the headboard, pillows. Anything you can grab to keep yourself grounded as you begin to scream out his name.
He licks you from clit to entrance and uses his fingers to swirl your clit as he continues to eat you out. You’re stomach begins to flutter and you can feel your orgasm building. Eddie moves his mouth back up to your clit and inserts two fingers into you and you sigh in relief. He starts pumping and curling his fingers until he finds that spongy spot that had you crumbling around him. Screaming out his name as you cream around his fingers.
He kisses his way back up your body as you come down from your high. You feel his cock hard and brushing against your thigh and you can’t help but moan. You reach between the two of you and grab hold of him and he moans.
You two make out for a moment more before he climbs off the bed and grabs the condom from his wallet. You watch as he rolls down his shaft and gives himself a few strokes. He then climbs back on the bed and situates himself between your legs.
He lines himself up with your entrance and pushes in. His fingers intertwined with yours and you both moan in sync as he bottoms out within you. You’ve never felt so full and he’s never felt a pussy that was made for him before.
You both have your eyes open as he begins to slowly pull out and sink back into you. You wrap your legs around his waist and he begins to pound into you.
The bed begins to shake and the headboard starts smacking against the wall so hard that you briefly worry about denying the wall considering it’s a new house but you’re too blissed out in pleasure to truly care.
His cock drives into you at just the right angle that has you seeing stars and you start to scream out his name. Your pussy begins to flutter around him.
Eddie reaches a hand between the two of you and starts to rub your clit and you’re done for. Clenching around him and cumming harder than you ever have before. Eddie continues to pound into you chasing his own high. As he pounds into you you reach around his back and begin to scratch his back. The sting of the scratches is what sends him over the edge spilling into the condom with the whimper of your name.
You two lay intertwined for a bit just catching your breaths. Occasionally peppering kisses on one another’s face. Eventually he pulls out and ties off the condom and throws it in the trash. You get up and go to the bathroom and come back to find Eddie gathering his clothes,
“Where are you going?”
“I didn’t know if you’d want me to stay.”
“Well we still have those movies to watch.”
Eddie sits back down in your bed and you crawl into the bed next to him and curl into his side. You both drift off while watching the thing.
When your father gets home and sees the van parked in his driveway he just knows it’s the repair boy.

a/n: ARGENTIIIIIIIIIIII ARGENTIIIIIIIIIII AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH screaming aside, i believe he is the type to compliment even the features you don’t really like about yourself 🥹 this beauty recognizing beauty in others no matter how they look… peak gentleman also notice how my word count on my posts are inconsistent, sometimes i don’t put them, sometimes i do… sorry!!! also this is obviously longer than the gepard one, so guess who’s my favorite 🤭
argenti x gn! reader
cw: insecurities, gardening with argenti, brutish planting (the plants are fine, dw), cheesy argenti, subtle pining…, you aren’t together in this one lol u just got friendzoned!!! (he didn’t mean it), reader is an unreliable narrator
word count: 800+
-
sanguine locks covered your peripheral vision as argenti bent down just above you. you were crouching down to dig dirt for the roses he nursed in nursery pots, and it was time to plant them down on the ground. you look up and meet argenti’s curious green eyes.
“do you not stick your spear to the ground, kick it to get soil out, drop the seedling, and stomp dirt on it, my muse?”
his question, though harmless, stuck a spear through your plant-loving heart. in what world do you plant roses that way?!
“no? argenti, is what i’m doing not the universal way of planting things?” you counter, gently taking out a seedling out of its seedling bag. “yours is… kind of sad and brutish.”
the knight crouches down beside you, pulling back the sleeves of his turtleneck. you loosen up the soil the seedling was clinging to and bury it in the hole you made, spraying it with water infused in fertilizer. you turn to your left and dig another hole for another rose bush seedling to plant. argenti observes your way of planting, his gaze following your hands.
you break the silence as you take out another seedling from its bag and put it down on the ground. “i’m curious though, do your plants live using that method, argenti?”
he nods, “yes they do. they grow up to be fruitful plants that grow beautiful flowers, fruits, or leaves.”
“again with the compliments on plants,” you sigh. you thought, do i have to turn into a plant to get praises…
“no you do not need to!” argenti replies immediately. you realized you spoke your words out loud and dismissed it. however, the knight was faster in talking than you. seeing your hands were busy, he started showering you compliments.
“beauty is everywhere, my muse, and that includes you! you need not to turn into a photosynthesizing creature for me to compliment you! are you not aware on how your hair is just right, even when you’re under the blazing heat of the star of your home planet system? do you fail to notice how gentle you’re holding that plant? or how you look in this posture, although it could use some work…”
argenti goes on and on, complimenting the features you usually scrutinize when he catches you checking yourself out in the mirror. the shape of your nose, your uneven skin tone, your body shape, even the hair on your toes… all while you were “busy” planting when you were just busying yourself to hide the massive blush raging on your face. the nerve of this guy to catch on to your insecurities and shower them with praises. beautiful, just what is beautiful for a knight of the beauty?
“…indeed, it is a blessing for the universe to have me here with you, friend. it is a pity you downgrade your perfectly arranged body just because it doesn’t fit this planet’s standards.” him saying friend for you sounded sour. “you were once like the roses you’re planting now, devoid of flowers but still pretty, your first leaves of development adorning juvenile features you now don’t have. and i think,” he pauses, tucking hair behind your ear to clear your vision. “you’ve grown to host a lot of roses.”
in your mind, fireworks shot through the sky at the last compliment argenti dropped. your face stoic, yet your mind had gremlins scampering around, yelling “oh great heavens! this guy is going to kill me!”, and “how dare he shower us in compliments! i love it! i’m going to explode!”
“hello? did the heat get you already?” argenti snaps you out of your daze. you shake your head.
“y-yeah, i think. let’s plant these later in the afternoon.” you plant the last seedling for the morning and put back the remaining seedlings in a cool area of your garden. argenti kept the gardening tools used before sitting down with you in the makeshift tent you two made. you took off your gloves and throw it aside, sitting down and wiping your sweat. argenti crouched down and passed you a waterbottle.
“i’ll do the planting later, my dear. now that i know the beauty of your way of planting, i can perfectly recreate it and grow rose bushes whose leaves that under that star’s light, and whose roses rival the color of my hair.”
argenti goes on for another ramble about beauty, fixated on roses. meanwhile, your mind began to wander in dangerous territory. for someone who’s not used to receiving meaningful compliments, argenti is starting to look like a potential crush for you. unbeknownst to you, the knight is waiting for you to take the hint already. as you debate your tiny crush on him, argenti is praying that the beauty that sits before him will grace him their company, to be his lifelong friend partner in searching for his aeon. that is to say, if he doesn’t believe his aeon is in fact, right beside him.

Cowboy!Joel (41) X F!Reader (25) | 15.5k | wip | explicit | 18+ minors dni | enemies to lovers | slow burn | au: no cordyceps outbreak
After four years away at collage, you’re finally home with the tools and knowledge to save your family ranch. That is, if their ranch hand would stay out of your way.
Or: Ranch hand Joel doesn’t know how to handle the return of his bosses prodigy daughter, her snarky little attitude, or her sinfully tight jeans.
a/n: this chapter gets me right in the feels every time. I love watching the way Joels character changes and his train of thought shifts. I hope you guys like this chapter because it was so fun for me to write 🥹❄️

Chapter 3: Blue
As it turns out, extreme levels of dopamine in his brain after a bone chilling orgasm is exactly what Joel needs to level himself out while you’re sitting beside him in the passenger seat. It doesn’t make him stop thinking about it, but it does keep the tiny little gremlin in his head that tells him to pop a stiffy at bay. The only thing he has to worry about is his eyes, keeping them off of you and on the icy driveway as he pulls away from the house. The snow has started to melt, leaving behind a sloppy mud that makes the truck slip and slide. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to get your car out, even if I can I don’t think you’ll be able to drive it in this.”
You make an exaggerated groan and he doesn’t even need to look to know you’re rolling your eyes at him from your spot beside him on the bench seat. “You just love deciding what I can and can’t do, don’t you? You know I lived here my whole life right?” He dares a glance over and you’re staring at him with your eyebrows knitted together and your arms crossed. His eyes tick down and he wants to kick himself in the head for even looking because your shirt is leaving nothing to his imagination and little to wonder about how good they would look bare with his dick between—jesus christ, Joel, get yourself together Man. “I wasn’t doubting your ability, I’m suggesting that it would be dangerous for you to even try.”
The truck hits the pavement and most of the snow has melted, but the freezing temperatures leave a icy film across the top. He had to go easy on the breaks and hope to god the truck makes it up the inclines he has to take to get to your car. The last thing he needs is to be stuck out here in the cold with just your bodies to keep each other warm. He absolutely one hundred and ten percent wont survive that, not without absolutely humiliating himself. God, he fucking hates how much you affect him against his will.
“Since when do you care about what’s too dangerous for me, huh?” Why in the hell is he arguing with you like you’ve been married for twenty years? “You left me in the snow to freeze to death in my car four days ago, why am I going to listen to you about whats too dangerous for me?” You have a point, but so does he so he just shuts his fucking mouth and keeps on driving.
It takes twice as much time to get down the pass than it usually does, but the lower Joel gets, the more the ice melts into cold water and mud. By the time he gets to your car, the road is clear but the car is still sunk down to the rims in the embankment. Theres a uneasy sort of silence in the truck, something lingering around the cab of the old blue pickup that feels like shame and embarrassment.
“Texting, huh?” He breaks the silence with a crude joke that earns him a deep glare. “Fuck you, asshole. You know, I really don’t know what it is that my parents see in you. My mom always said how polite you were but I don’t believe that for a second after knowing you for a few days.” You prop open the door and climb out into the snow with your car keys in one hand and the other holding your unzipped jacket closed. Your stupid fucking shoes and that tight ass—fuck.
How is he supposed to be okay with the way you make his body react when you literally curse the ground he walks on, thinking he’s the worst thing that ever happened to this damn town? He gets out after you and slips on his gloves to keep the cold off his hands. The winter always leaves him cracked and brittle from cold work, sometimes his knuckles bleed and his bones ache for gentle hands instead of hard callouses and a cowboys scars. “You don’t know anything about me.” He reaches into the back for a chain while you open the door to your car. “I know enough. I know you’re bullheaded and selfish. I know you’re rude and you don’t care about anyone but yourself.”
Fucking bitch, like he’s not allowed to have some self preservation after the life he’s lived, always cleaning up Tommy's mess and abandoning his own life in the process. “Don’t act like you’re any better.” You lean out of your car and make a face at him while he hooks the chain to the front of the truck. “Me? You don’t know a damn thing about me.” Like you didn’t just spout off about all the things you think is wrong with him—he can do that too. He has a fucking list of reasons you piss him off. “I know that you’re entitled and expect people to be at your beck and call. I know you’re privileged with no regard for anyone around you.”
He follows the chain to your car and hooks it to the chassis underneath. “Well were just a match made in fucking heaven then, aren’t we?” Its dripping with distain and bitterness, so Joel ignores the comment no matter how much his brain runs and runs about all the way he could be made for you, the way’s he’d fuck that attitude right out of you until you’re quiet. But he can’t and he won’t, he’ll probably spend the rest of his life wondering what you’d feel like, the way you’d shake and scream and beg for more—but wondering is far as that fantasy will ever go.
Because at the end of the day, you’re still Hank's daughter and you’re still half his age and—you hate his guts, which is definitely a deal breaker when it comes to getting someone in your bed. So he keeps his mouth shut and heads back to his truck to tug your car out. “When you’re out, hit your brakes so you don't slam into me.” You sink down into your seat and glare at him. “I’m not stupid!” He never said you were, but he doesn’t expect you to know everything, so he does his best to be the helpful asshole he usually is.
He pulls the little car out, manages to keep the chain tight until it's back on the road and the brake lights come on in front of him. He puts the truck in park and hops out to unhook the chain, but you don’t open the door. When the car is unhooked, you’re already pulling away without a word of thanks. Joel knows he’s well past earning the way you treat him, but that doesn’t make him stop wishing he could just get you out of his head already, wish he could hate you with that same mind altering disgust that you have for him, maybe watching you drive away would be easier.
Two months pass much like the first week. Joel keeps to himself, you frown at him and avoid him where you can. When you do see one another, Joel feels like you’re always at each other's throats. Everyone in the house has started to notice the distaste in your strained relationship, if Joel is willing to let himself call it that. It’s more like a forced acquaintance. Either way, your parents even see the way the two of you bicker and fight, but rarely does anyone but Tommy make comments about it. Tommy likes to bring it up any chance he gets, usually when Joel is alone just to rile him up further. He says stupid shit, like “I bet the sex you guys would have would be crazy good” when it’s just him and his brother at the dinner table and it makes Joel stiffen and run off to the cabin without his plate or a goodbye.
He sneaks in later for his plate and catches you in the kitchen with red eyes and tear stained cheeks, but you cross your arms over your chest and try not to meet his eyes. You’re dressed in just a big tee shirt and he can see from your bare feet to the tops of your thighs. He’s the luckiest son of s bitch in the world that he just worked himself over twice because he would be tenting his sweatpants right there in the kitchen.
That was three days ago and he still can’t get the sight of tears in your eyes out of his mind. He wonders if he did that, if he’d said something that struck a nerve and there you sat at the kitchen table after everyone was tucked in bed, crying your pretty eyes out. He feels like the worst fucking person in the world because of it, so he stays away even more, makes himself sad little ramen noodle dinners in his sad little hunting cabin he shares with his brother and he stares at his ceiling wishing it was you he was looking up at—smiling instead of frowning for once—all he wants is to see you smile. Really smile, for him, at him. He wonders what your eyes look up when they light up, wonders what your skin feels like when its not shaking in rage.
But between all the avoiding and hiding, Joel didn’t even realize how quickly Christmas had snuck up on him. He checks his phone sometime after lunch, his day spent getting the herd ready for another brutal snow storm. He’d been to town that morning for hot feed to keep them warm and any supplies they might run out of while snowed in, while deep, dark clouds hung in the distance. He was leaving the feed store when the clerk waved at him with a polite “Merry Christmas!” When he made it into the truck, he pulled out his phone and realized the date, December 24th. It was Christmas eve and it was an absolute miracle that stores were open right now. It was only eleven thirty and the sign posted on the door says it closes at two.
He starts to put the truck in reverse, turning around to look behind him while he pulls out. When he does, something inside of him doesn’t let his foot off the brakes. He thinks about you—in Christmas pajamas on the floor opening dumb little gifts from your parents because it's the first Christmas they’ve had with you for years. He imagines what they’d get you, probably things a grown adult needs—products, socks, underwear, (don’t even go there Joel) and he thinks about how disheartening that must be to a woman like you, used to proper city living now, expensive gifts and pretty things. You deserve pretty things, Joel wants to give them to you.
He turns around, throws the truck in park and jumps out, heading back into the feed store. He makes a bee-line for the glass jewelry case sitting in the corner, partially scavenged through since it is the day before christmas and all—he should have thought about this weeks ago. He scans through everything, shiny horse shoe earrings, matching pendants, jeweled cowgirl boots on a chain and turquoise ring sets. None of them look good enough, none of them scream you, sweet you—fuck, he’s seen it, when you’re so damn sweet, when you think no one is looking—Joel is, always looking.
He kneels down, scanning the bottom shelf of the case when he spots a simple golden chain and a bumble bee dangling delicately from its tiny hoops. It doesn’t have any stones on it and Joel thinks he likes that more, that it’s simple and graceful, not too flashy or obviously shoutings “look at what you do to me, look at how much I wish I could have you.”
In the end, he has just enough bills in his wallet for the necklace, tells the clerk he doesn’t need a bag as he stuffs the box in his pocket and heads back to the truck.
He has a busy day when he gets back to ranch, Tommy is checking on the pregnant heifers while Joel fill’s multiple feeders with hot grains that will keep them warm through the impending storm. He has just enough time before it starts to snow to get the horse fed and the equipment properly covered in tarps. This storm is set to drop more snow than they have seen all winter and Joel doesn’t look forward to the animosity that comes with never being able to get out of each other's hair. “How’s the heifers?” He asks Tommy when he brushes grain off his hands. “They all seem pretty far out besides one, she was really soft, sort of worried me.” Heifers get soft around the tail when they are close to caving, but Joel doesn’t think she’ll be willing to have her calf in this storm, so he lets it go. Instead, he takes a spot beside Tommy at the stable door.
“Snow’s comin’ down thick now,” Tommy says from the protective covering of the stable, staring out across the yard at the powder covered ground. Snow blows through the big sliding door, filling the building with cold gusts. “We should get inside before it gets worse.”
Joel wants to—when he looks off at the two story house, the christmas tree shining through the window, he spots you on the other side of it, fixing and ornament hanging from the nettles. The stable is a stone's throw from the house, Joel can see every feature, the color of your eyes, your sweet, sweet smile—because he’s nowhere to be seen.
He’s so busy staring, he doesn’t catch it in time when your eyes meet his across the yard. That sweet smile falls, those soft eyes harden and he feels his gut lurch. “You go ahead, Tommy. Think I’m going to hit the hay.” Tommy knows this bit just about as well as Joel does, knows he’s been avoiding the house, your parents, you because nine times out of ten, it’s just Tommy at dinner these days. Joel spends his night with microwaved meals and old episodes of The Rifleman to keep him busy until he finally gives in and slips his hands in his pants.
Tommy doesn’t put up a fuss, instead, he claps Joel on the shoulder and gives him this sad sort of smile before heading off towards the house. Joel turns in the other direction, follows the fence line for a half mile until he reaches the cabin. His feet are cold, his lips feel cracked after a long day outside in the harsh weather. He microwaves a sad little dinner, pretends the mac and cheese on the side is half as good as warm food at the table when the people he looks at like family. He’s simply not welcome there anymore.
He gets through two episodes before he promptly passes out, his pants left intact tonight because it’s not his dick leading the way tonight, its that look in your eyes when you saw him across the driveway. The pang he felt in his chest when you frowned and turned away like it hurt you to look at him.
He sleeps through the night, propped up like that on the couch and when he wakes on Christmas morning, his neck has a crick in it and his back is killing him. He barely drags himself off the couch and into the shower before his day has to start. The hot water eases out some of his muscles, but it still hurts like a bitch to stand up straight or turn his head.
But the cattle aren’t going to let him take a day off, the horses won't care for themselves, so he gets to it only a few minutes late. When he heads out the door, the ground is covered in two feet of pure white snow and dark clouds still hang overhead.
His Christmas is spent in the field’s and the stables and the box in his pocket burns a hole through his thigh the entire morning, until he’s shoveling off the driveway and the front door comes open. Louise makes her way onto the porch with a plate in her hands, shuffling down the slippery steps when she gets Joel’s attention. He tosses down the shovel and hurries over when she starts to wobble on the second step and nearly slips. He catches her arm and helps her steady before letting out a cold gust of air that fogs through the chill around him. “Miss Lou, what are you doin’ out here? It’s freezing.” She has a light coat on and her cheeks are red from the cold.
“You’re the one out here in the cold, Joel. It’s Christmas and you’re the only one working. Have you had a decent meal this week? I haven’t seen you at dinner in…well, I don’t know how long.” She’s the one reason Joel feels guilty for avoiding the house, in the years he’s lived here, she's always enjoyed cooking for them, she’d always tell him he couldn’t keep her dream alive if he was malnourished. He feels like that now, running on half the calories a man his size should be taking in and his mind is in a constant state of despair these days.
“Just needed some space is all, Ma’am, nothin’ you did.” He assures her, taking the plate carefully and helping her back up the steps. “I know it's not just that. My daughter can be really difficult sometimes…I know you two bicker. It’s a shame, really—I thought the two of you would hit it off.” That's the whole problem and what a shame it is that Joel can’t look at this woman’s daughter without thinking about all the ways he could have her, make her his. “Would you come inside? Hank and I got you something, he thought you would be in this morning but you never came. I'm sorry if your food is cold.”
He didn’t care if it was cold, his stomach hurt because he was so hungry, he'd eat it if it was frozen. He doesn’t have the heart to tell her no, so he heads inside the house with snow covered boots and a nervousness he hasn’t felt here since the first day he stood in this living room. For so long it's felt like his home too—but now he can't help but feel like an intruder.
When he closes the door behind him, Hank and Tommy are watching the game, but you’re nowhere in sight. He tries to shake off his nerves, moves to the couch beside Tommy and sits down. At his brother's feet is a brand new pair of deer skin gloves, Tommy’s favorite—but hard to come by. He knows they weren’t cheap and his heart aches a little, knowing they’d worked hard to pull together the money.
“Glad to see you can pull yourself away for a few minutes. You know it ain’t goin’ anywhere, stay for a little while.” He knows that—the storm will be with them for four days and he knows there will be more snow to shovel tomorrow, but he can’t stay for long, not when your prying eyes finally detect him in your safe haven. “I’ll stay for a little while, still a lot to do out there.” He knows Hank is too old for that kind of work, Tommy’s too lazy and Joel wants nothing more than to escape. “Got you somethin’, been saving up for it for a while now.” He leans down towards the tree and picks up a rather large box—it’s not gloves thats for damn sure. “Sir, I…I didn’t get you nothin’.” He didn’t have the money, he spent every dollar he had to his name on a stupid necklace for his daughter that would rather see him outside in the freezing weather shoveling snow than on her couch in front of the fireplace.
Hank throws a hand, playing off Joel's concern with an amused huff. “You do so much for us around here without asking for anything in return. You had one when you got here but i know it got tore up taking the cattle to pasture.”
Joel rips the wrapping paper, revealing a simple white box with the word Stetson on the top. Joel doesn’t even want to open the damn thing, he knows what's inside and how much it cost, an arm and a leg, probably a month's saving in the off season. “Hank…”
The olde man shakes his head firmly. “You deserve to have the sun off your neck, son. Just say thank you, make sure it fits.”
He pulls open the box and inside lays a black felt hat with a matching band, beautiful leather work that loops into an ornate metal buckle to hold it in place. He pulls the cowboy hat from its box, puts it on his head and—it’s a perfect fit.
It's been a long time since he had a hat, a lot longer since he had a nice one and a lifetime ago since he had the money for a new one, especially one this nice. “I don’t know what to say—thank you, Hank…this really…means more than you know.” More than he knows how to convey with words. It’s been a long time since Joel had a hat that fit, one that wasn’t second hand or made for someone else’s head. But this—this was made for his head, the measurement must be damn near perfect. “How’d you know my size?” He wobbles his head around and the hat doesn’t budge, hangs on snuggly. He’ll even be able to ride with this on. “I measured your head while you were sleepin’.” Tommy tells him with a smug grin. “That's weird, Tommy. I would have kept that to myself.”
It draws a laugh out of Hank who has abandoned the game in favor of watching Joel's excitement. “Well, what are you waiting for—go check yourself out in the mirror, make sure you like it,” he stands and walks over to the mirror hanging on the wall above a decorative entryway shelf. When he spots himself in the reflection, he realizes just how long it’s been since he’s seen the man looking back at him. He’s graying in his beard a little, the age lines on his face have gotten deeper and more pronounced, but the black hat on his head makes that same man grin from ear to ear.
The stairs creek behind him and he turns half of his body to look up them. Stopped halfway down the stairs, you’re staring at him with a slightly slacked jaw. Joel knew it, Christmas jammies that leave your legs exposed to his greedy eyes. This time, he tries to keep them to himself. “Oh, uh…” he swallows down the lump in his throat and his pocket burns all over again. Should he give it to you now? Will everyone question him if he does? If he waits to get you alone, does that suggest that the necklace means everything he wants it to? A peace offering, an ice breaker, a “I’m sorry about the way I’ve treated you, but I want to try again.”
Instead, he leaves it in his pocket and tries to tamper down the way his cheeks heat. “Merry Christmas, Honey.” He tilts his hat up a tad so he can look up at you, but your slightly dumbfounded look morphs into irritation and discontent.
“What are you doing here?” You cross your arms and Joel’s good mood disappears. “Your mom asked me to come in and eat. Your dad wanted to give me this.” He points to the hat and your eyes roll as you make the descent down the rest of the stairs. “So if you’re in here, who’s taking care of the ranch?”
It isn’t often that someone sticks up for one of them in an argument, they tend to not get between the two of you, but to Joel’s surprise, Hank interrupts his daughter. “He’s allowed to come in the house, Honey—he works hard around here, he’s not a yard dog.” But that doesn’t stop you from sneering at him when you pass him on your way to the kitchen where your mother is. “Sure looks like one to me.” It’s under your breath so Hank doesn’t hear, but Joel does.
And he feels like a fool. A fool for spending the last of his money on this stupid fucking necklace, like a fool for being so plagued by thoughts of you in a different world, one where you don’t innately hate him, one where he doesn’t fuck up every chance he has to change the narrative.
“I should get back to it, I’ll see you guys…later.” He starts to head for the door when Louise pokes her head around the corner. “Please come in for Dinner!” Joel tells her that he will, he hates lying to miss Lou, but he does it because it’s Christmas and the last thing he wants to do is worry her today.
He wastes the day shoveling off the driveway, tries his best to rub out the crick in his neck and finally calls it a day when the sun is nearly set and the animals are bunkered down for the night. It’s started to snow again, so Joel makes his way back to the cabin with tired limbs and a new dusting of snow hanging onto the brim of his hat.
Dinner is just as lonely as the night before but this time he doesn’t pretend it's Lou’s cooking, he lets it be exactly what it is—a tasteless mush and his misery to sip on.
The Rifleman is just as predictable as it was the night before, as is Joel—who falls asleep before he has the heart to get his hands on his dick. But unlike last night, he doesn’t make it long propped up on the couch before a knock startles him awake. He drags himself to the door with sleep in his eyes and a chill in his bones. When he pulls it open, his pocket ignites again. On the other side of the door, you’re standing in front of him with a plate in your hands and a vicious storm letting down behind you. Did you walk here in that? “My mom said I chased you off, that’s why you didn’t come to dinner.” Well, you aren’t wrong. If you were still away at college, Joel would have no problem spending Christmas with Hank and Louise and Tommy who is apparently too good to walk you down here.
“You didn’t have to bring me anything.” He says. He glances to the side where his hat hangs on the rack. “Actually, my mom made me so no, I didn’t have a choice.” Ahh, of course—of course you wouldn’t do something that nice for him. “Well, thank her for me, then…” he reaches out for the plate and his fingers brush yours—bolts of electricity shooting up his arm and igniting his starved skin. It’s been so damn long since someone has touched him with kind hands and all he wants is yours—your soft, gentle hands he’s seen folding laundry and soothing horses. You don’t release the plate, but your eyes track up to his, meeting them across the threshold.
He could hold that gaze for the rest of his life if you’d let him—he’s always wanted a chance to get lost in your eyes and he’s getting it right now, his home pouring with cold in exchange for the heat in your cheeks and the sparkle in your irises. “Joel—“
There's a loud sound somewhere over the fence beside the cabin. It draws both of your attention to the blinding darkness. Joel knows that sound, a distressed heifer, probably the one who was too damn close to calving in a storm like this. There’s no way Joel can save that calf if it doesn’t make it and even if he wanted to, the snow is too thick to help.
“What is that?” You ask, finally dropping your hand away from his when you glance back up at him. “Heifer, think she’s calving—Tommy said she was really soft and her milk came in. Afraid that calf might not make it tonight.”
There's a look of disbelief in your eyes, shooting from Joel to the fence line and back. “You can’t help her?” Joel shakes his head and listens to the cow cry out again. “Nothin’ I can do for her. They aren’t supposed to be calving yet, we still have a few more weeks and it’s too cold out there. We might lose the heifer too.”
Joel observes the way sadness takes over your face, then determination. “I’m going out there to help her.” You tell him, already heading off the porch before Joel can even interject. “Don’t you hear me? She’s not going to make it, honey, just let it go.” But you don’t, you start to jog towards the fence line, so Joel huffs in annoyance and slips into his boots and jacket, finally pulling his hat on on his way out the door. He grabs a spotlight off the shelf by the door and follows your tracks through the snow to the fence line. It doesn’t take him long until he finds you, knelt behind a laboring cow, who’s already pushing in the freezing cold. “I can’t get this calf to safety and this storm is getting worse—it’s not safe to be out here.”
There's blood marring the white snow and your delicate hands. “I’m not letting her die in the snow on christmas because we made her have a baby, Joel—she didn’t ask for this.” Joel sets the light in the snow beside him and rolls his sleeves up, kneeling down beside you in the soaked snow. “She’s not going to make it.”
You make a face at him, one Joel is more than accustomed to. “I’m not letting her die alone, then.” And Joel isn’t going to leave you alone in the snow for a second time, so he stays there beside you, helping deliver the little black calf, who shivers wetly in the cold. It’s a little boy, floppy ears and a wobble to him when he tries to hold his head up. Joel can't help but smile, because this is always beautiful, even if he can't save this little calf. He looks up and you’re grinning right back at him, your cheeks bitten red by the cold and your hands shaking, but you look so fucking proud right now. Joel is too, after watching you pull that calf out of his momma like you were made for that.
“What if we get them inside, would they make it then?” Joel doesn’t see how, the snow is too thick and someone would have to carry him. “They wont fit in my cabin and the stable is a half a mile away. We’d have to drag momma through this snow.” He has a lead in the cabin, he could get her out of this snow, he thinks. Would she even want to go, after having a calf in the ridged cold. “We should try—we should at least try.”
Joel leans back and brushes the blood off on his pants. “Yeah—fine, we can try. Stay right here, keep rubbing him to keep him warm.” He stands and jogs back to the cabin, racing inside for the lead that he runs back to you with. You have the calf laid out along your legs while you rub his wet skin. “He’s slowing down. I can feel his heart slowing down.” He’s getting too cold out here—if Joel doesn’t act now, he won't make it, so he wraps the halter around the heifers head and hands you the lead. “Think you can pull her? She’s going to put up a fight.” You take the lead from him and nod, grabbing the light out of the snow while he picks the calf up under his belly. He makes a little sound at Joel while he starts to make his way through the deep snow.
It’s a long walk back to the stables, but you tug on that heifer and Joel carries the calf the entire way there, until he reaches the gate and manages to push it open just enough to get them through. He makes it to the stable doors in just enough time, throws it open and helps you inside. It’s not much warmer in here, but theres no snow and theres straw in the empty stable towards the back, so Joel makes his way over and lays the little calf down in the bedding. You’re right behind him with the heifer who takes straight to her baby once she has him in her sight again.
Joel plops down in the straw in the corner of the room once they are both situated, trying to catch his breath and warm himself up at the same time. He’s covered in blood, so are you, but you saved both of their lives and Joel has more respect for that than he knows what to do with. You risked your life out there for a baby cow and his momma.
“You did a good thing, out there. I’m sorry I didn’t want to listen to you.” You find a spot beside him in the hay and sink down, leaned against the wood wall with your shoulder pressed against his with how closely you sit. “You have every right to question me…you’re right, you know…I have no clue what I’m doing around here. Four years of school and the only thing I know how to do around here is the books, which is easy because were so broke.” Joel's heart aches for you, the sadness in your tone and the defeated look in your eyes. “I almost got us killed out there.”
Joel shakes his head and leans himself back against the wall too. “But you didn’t. You saved us a lot of money and saved his little life. I’d say that's a win.” He knows it doesn’t feel like one when everything else is coming down on your shoulders, but he can pretend it is for your sake. “Thanks, Joel.” You lean a little more, bumping his shoulder with a quiet yawn.
His pocket begins to burn again, but this time, it isn’t followed by the shame he’s felt all day. “I uhm…I hope it’s not weird, but I got you something…” he reaches into his pocket and starts to fish it out. “You didn’t have to do that,” you interject but he shakes his head. “I just saw it while I was at the feed store, thought of you.” He pulls out the blue box and holds it out to you. He tries not to read too much into the look on your face when you open the box, but he has to know. It looks like confusion, then shock and finally, sadness. “I was really rude to you this mornin’…and you had this in your pocket to give it to me?” You look over at him with big eyes, full of something Joel has never seen in them. “It’s alright—I deserved that.”
You shake your head and start to pull the necklace out of the box. “I called you a dog, Joel—you didn’t deserve that.”
He shrugs his shoulders, trying to rid both of you of the shame of that conversation. You hold the necklace up and admire it for a while, the little gold bee that’s going to lay against your chest, against your heart. You hold it out to him with a little quick of your lips. “Would you?” He takes it from you and you turn your back to him, using one hand to hold up your hair while he undoes the clasp and brings his hands around your neck, laying it around your delicate throat. It feels so intimate, sitting here in the hay beside a newborn baby calf in the middle of a snowstorm on christmas.
His knuckles brush against your neck gently when he does the clasp together, letting is hang from your neck, feels like a fucking brand on his skin. You turn back around, meet his eyes and smile carefully. There's a comfortable silence filling up the space between you, so Joel leans back against the wood and sighs to himself. “Let me walk you back to the house…it’s getting late.” His words are low and slow.
You nod at him and he stands, holding out a hand to pull you to your feet. He walks you out of the stables, through the blizzard and up to the porch of the big white house. “Where are you going?” You ask him when you get to the door. “Don’t know if I can make it back to the cabin in this. Might sleep out in the stable so I can keep an eye on the little guy.”
You don’t say anything, just stare at him for a long moment, then glance behind you at the warm house. “Come inside…Tommy took the guest bedroom but you can have the couch. It’s better than being out here in the cold.”
He wants to decline, but when will he get this opportunity again? To mend what's been broken between you? “Yeah—sure, that sounds better than straw poking me in the ass all night long.”
It makes you giggle and that makes Joel's stomach churn, his cheeks heat and his hands flex as he follows you inside. You get him a blanket, help him get situated in the low glow of the christmas tree in the corner.
When he kicks his boots off and settles down on the couch, you start to head for the stairs. He thinks you’re going to head up, but you pause at the bottom of the stairs before turning to look at him. “Thank you for helping me today.”
He hums, smiles and shakes his head. “It was my pleasure.”
There's another long silence, then you take the first step up the stairs. “Goodnight, Joel…Merry Christmas.”
He smiles back at you with tired eyes.
“Merry Christmas, Honey.”

❥・• chapter 40 — i miss holding your hand
"You're the worst, Lee Heeseung," you say as soon as the door in front of you opens, revealing a shrivelled-up boy. If you didn't know any better, you would have thought he was homeless. "Y-Y/N?" he stutters as he catches sight of you, not so well groomed either, but at least your pyjamas are cute.
"Are we just going to stand here and stare at each other, maybe get a picture taken or two, or are you going to let me in?" Your eyebrows cock, your voice laced with a tint of sarcasm and before you know it, Heeseung pulls you into the apartment and, shockingly (not really), into his arms. The two of you stand with bated breaths at the doorway of his dorm, unconsciously forgetting that he shared with six other gremlins, in each other’s embrace for a good two minutes before Heeseung decided to break the silence.
"I thought you said you hated me?" His breath hits the back of your neck as his arms tightens around your tiny frame. Forget the hamster vs. deer debate; this man is a koala! You chuckle into his shoulders as you reciprocate his actions, bringing your fingers up to play with his now jet-black hair.
"I do," you are the first to pull apart, and he doesn't refute, letting his hands fall back beside him. For a second, you see a hint of disappointment flash across his face, and you wonder if Heeseung knows he is unintentionally pouting, willing all the power vested in you to not lean in and steal a long-overdue kiss from him.
Heeseung, on the other hand, does not take the situation lightly at all. While it took you little to no convincing from your members for you to rush out of the dorm, in your pyjamas no less, no reassurance or even gaslighting from the ENHYPEN members were able to convince Heeseung that he didn't mess up. Well... except according to Ni-ki: "He did, but for the greater good of mankind." It didn't really help the members' case for the most part.
Millions of thoughts seem to restlessly stir inside his head, and you swear you can almost see the gears in his brain turning, thinking of how he can possibly redeem himself—how he can convince you to stay by his side.
All those thoughts, however, are thrown out the window when you take hold of his hands, rubbing circles on his palms. Heeseung apprehensively catches your gaze that has never once left his, taking a deep breath before letting your innermost honest feelings take the wheel. "But I like you more."
"What? When—HOW?" Heeseung stutters, gripping onto your hand, his heart running the extra mile to keep his brain semi-functioning, because boy does he look like he is about to pass out.
"I think I sort of knew when you sent me that photo during our first conversation."
"That long ago? God, and I didn't manage to pick up on it?" He says, but more to himself, partially in shock that the two of you could have had something as long as five months ago. Heeseung even thought he was doing you a favour when he denied those allegations two months back, regret piling in now that he's reminded of it.
"And you?"
"Y/N, please, I've always thought you were attractive since I-LAND." Heeseung rolls his eyes, you can tell he threw it out lightly, most likely as a joke but you still smile to yourself, trying to keep a calm demeanour though you were mentally freaking out.
"I guess Ray was right, stupidity is a disease." You joke, and the two of you burst out into giggles. Heeseung silently presses his forehead against yours, his eyes firmly trained on your own, and his hands still firmly on you as yours are on him.
You feel your heart race as Heeseung's fingers delicately grip your chin, tilting your head up to meet his towering height. The anticipation hangs in the air, and his trembling hands betray his eagerness. A playful smile dances on your lips as you tease him, relishing in the moment. Finally, unable to resist any longer, you nod in consent, giving him permission to cross the boundary of what you thought would have been an endless situationship.
With no hesitation, Heeseung closes the gap between your lips, and the world around you fades into oblivion. Time stands still as the gentle pressure of his mouth against yours ignites a passionate fire within you. It's a tender yet fervent kiss, filled with the unspoken words and emotions that have been building between you.
Heeseung’s lips are soft and inviting, moving in perfect sync with yours. The electric current that surges through your body sends shivers down your spine while wrapped in his embrace, driving you to lose yourself in the blissful moment.
It feels as though the entire universe has aligned to bring you and Heeseung together, erasing all doubts and uncertainties that once plagued your minds. In this stolen moment, you find solace and comfort in his arms, as if you were made for one another.
The kiss lingers, an enchanting melody that only the two of you share. It speaks volumes, expressing an unfathomable emotion that has been silently growing, hidden beneath the surface.
When you finally part, breathless and filled with an intoxicating blend of desire and affection, you gaze into his eyes. There's a newfound understanding, a profound certainty that you are meant to embark on this hell of a journey together. In that moment, you both realise that fate, although fickle, has triumphed over any misunderstandings or doubts that once threatened to tear you apart, willing for you to find your way back to each other’s arms.

aaron having a super stressful day at the hospital. when he goes to have a small break in the lounge room, he takes his phone out and finds a text from andrew that says “come out front when you’re free”
aaron frowns, wondering if this was meant for him or not but eventually curiosity wins. he walks outside to find his brother leaning against the maserati, a half-smoked cigarette hanging between his lips. “what are you doing here? everything ok?” aaron asks as he approaches
andrew says nothing but he hands him a paper bag in silence. aaron opens it and finds a sandwich alongside snacks and a bottle of water. he frowns. “what is that?”
“for you,” andrew replies, crushing the butt of his cigarette beneath his boot. “i figured you probably once again neglected to feed yourself in favor of taking care of mini gremlins.”
aaron stands there dumbly, trying so very hard to ignore the warmth in his chest but failing. andrew walks back around the car to the driver’s door “you better go back in there before they think you deserted”. aaron watches him drive away before he can say anything. he goes back
inside the hospital to have his food and sends a quick “thank you” to his brother, feeling lighter and now ready to face another shift

First of all, I don’t agree with shinybluebirdwizard on that. I don’t think it’s good to ask which parent a child loves more, and I don’t think this needs to be discussed. You can’t quantify love, and people have different love languages.
------Manga spoilers in this post------
Yor and Loid are very different in their parenting styles, and therefore it’s only normal that Anya respond to them very differently.
The fact is, shinybluebirdwizard themselves have stated how Yor is the stricter parent. In one of their posts, they pointed out that Yor would urge Anya to welcome Loid home properly (ch.67.2) and to eat all of her veggies (ch. 76). Yor is the one who really disciplines Anya.
Loid has always been “for the mission”. He’s strict when it comes to Anya’s academic performance. But it’s also quite evident that Anya plays him like a fiddle. Loid has mostly said yes to Anya. Unless she’s asking for a silenced pistol or a castle, then he might have to check if they are available.
Most recently, Twilight would even bring her to a meeting with the Handler just because she REALLY wants to play.
The fact is Anya would do this in front of Loid, but not really in front of Yor.
Because it’s stated right from the start: Yor is the scarier parent.
At first she’s only scary because she is too strong and could break Anya’s ribs. She hasn’t, although shinybluebirdwizard did try to joke about why Anya doesn’t like Yor’s hugs as much in that certain post. But later, it’s also revealed that she’s also strict.
I’m not shinybluebirdwizard - Judging from their previous posts, I could only guess being the scarier parent could be one of the reasons why they think Anya loves Loid more. But does that mean Yor’s not as good? Or does it mean that Yor is in fact the better parent?
That brings us back to what the question was. Anon asked shinybluebirdwizard who they think Anya loves more. I disagree with shinybluebirdwizard on this one, because it’s normal for children to behave better in front of the stricter parent. shinybluebirdwizard made another post about Anya being a daddy’s girl, and how she behaves differently in front of Loid and Yor. In that sense, it only means that Anya loves her parents in a different way, according to their different parenting styles. It doesn’t mean that Anya loves Loid more.
I think it’s important to recognise that the question was never about who is the better parent, because I’ve noticed people on Twitter or Tumblr are talking about how they don’t like shinybluebirdwizard reducing Yor’s role. Once again, the question is if Anya loves Loid or Yor more. Anon was not asking if shinybluebirdwizard thinks Loid or Yor is the better parent. Anon was not even asking if Anya thinks Loid or Yor is the better parent.
“Imagining how Anya feels about her parents” ≠ “how the blogger actually feels about Loid and Yor”
And therefore: “Saying Anya loves Loid more” ≠ “Loid > Yor”
Again, I don’t agree with them. I have already explained why I don’t like the original question. But if you attempt to answer this question, you would have to first imagine yourself as Anya.
What (or how) does Anya think?
Anya is a four-year-old peanuts gremlin. In case you can’t tell that I don’t really mean that Anya is a menace - because obviously people could have screenshot it and put it on Twitter, taking my words completely out of context - I mean it in a loving way.
Sure, Anya has given her parents 100 points.
On the other hand, this is also Anya, telling her parents that she hates them and is running away.
Usually, four-year-olds just spurt out what they feel at the moment. If one day Loid and Yor decide that Anya is having too many peanuts and limit her peanut intakes, while Bond is willing to steal peanuts for her, I’d say Anya would think Bond is better than Loid AND Yor combined. Maybe until Loid makes her Hamburg steaks and Yor makes her hot cocoa.
Does that mean I’m reducing Loid’s and Yor’s roles? Does that mean that Bond is the best thing that has ever happened to Anya? Of course not. Anya can love Loid or Yor more for childish af reasons at a very specific moment. It’s also just how shinybluebirdwizard interprets Anya as a character. It’s not really about Yor, or Loid. It’s about Anya.
The thing is Anya doesn’t know what to expect from her parents.
Anya’s characterisation is not discussed much in the fandom, mostly because she’s smol. However, Endo did work on it. We’ve seen how Anya is slowly realising the importance of studying. We’ve also seen how people have been telling Anya that she should not make her parents worry in both the doggy crisis arc and the cruise arc.
Many have stated that they believe Twilight could leave the family immediately in ch. 84 if WISE orders him to do so. I honestly don’t know. What I do know is, Anya also doesn’t know. Anya’s expectation has been that the family could stay together if the mission is a success. The family would have to break up if the mission fails.
So we see this baby trying her absolute hardest to keep everyone’s secrets safe so she can keep her family together. This is pretty much her only expectation.
On the other hand, she doesn’t really know what to expect from her parents.
Damian had low expectations, but he’s still visibly upset that his parents didn’t come. Anya, on the other hand, had to keep herself optimistic and cheerful. She’s even excited just because she had a chance to ride on a police car.
You can’t tell who’s the better parent even if you ask Anya, because A. again, she’s smol; and B. she honestly doesn’t know what parents should do.
That is heartbreaking to see how much Anya is willing to do for her parents. She’s always trying to help, and she would even wait to confirm if her parents are okay before sneaking back to where she’s supposed to be.
I know people are angry at Loid because he’s emotionally constipated, but we will have to understand why Anya’s happy just because Loid’s there. Like father, like daughter. They are basically doing the exact same thing.
Anya and Loid are very similar in these panels. That doesn’t mean that Anya loves Yor less because they are less similar in expressing their feelings in these panels. On the contrary, this is why Yor IS important. Anya and Loid are keeping so many secrets, and that have affected their abilities to express their love/emotions. They need Yor because Yor is the only one who could freely express her feelings, despite also having her own secrets. She is the only one who knows what being a family should be like (compared to Anya and Loid, because Yuri is weird af).
I know it’s too late to state the following because shinybluebirdwizard has already deactivated their account. I hope they would come back with a new account because I’m maybe 2 days old finding out that deactivated Tumblr accounts can’t be reactivated.
Now it is totally okay if you disagree with me on this particular post, or how I interpret the story and the characters. You don’t need to agree with me on my opinion - I think shinybluebirdwizard is just joking when they’re making the post, and it’s not that serious. You can be unhappy that they are being unserious and unfunny. I’ve included links of their posts and hopefully they’d give you contexts - you can totally think they are bullshitting in those posts as well.
To give you more context, shinybluebirdwizard is a twiyor fan. I have reposted quite a lot of their posts in which they state that Twiyor is a good team, especially when it comes to parenting. I understand that some thought they’ve disrespected Yor, and it’s totally normal to be unhappy about it. Again, shinybluebirdwizard is quite unserious in the post, and I can see why people are not particularly happy with them listing silly reasons. But to be fair, shinybluebirdwizard has also made posts about how Yor is a good character and a good person.
Again, you don’t need to know everything to make a discussion. I definitely haven’t read all shinybluebirdwizard’s posts, because they’d make several new posts every day.
I also have the urge to facepalm every time I see someone trying to say they’re badmouthing Yor because they are Loid’s fan. Let’s be honest, they kinda shitted on (/s, because I finally understand someone really can’t tell) every character, including and especially Loid. The thing is everyone in this story is somehow flawed. That’s what makes them good characters, and that’s why we love them, but that also gives people different reasons to criticise all characters.
It’s fine to have disagreements.
I’m disappointed because how horrible people could be to another person just because they don’t agree on one (1) thing. Some had to dial it up to eleven because of one post, or maybe worse, some screenshots.
I’m also disappointed because some people made this post an opportunity to turn Loid’s fans and Yor’s fans against each other. It’s not like I don’t understand that there are extreme fans who would attack on every single character other than their most beloved. I’m just saying that people are capable of liking both.
Every one has the right to have the discussion and share their opinions. Please. Do it respectfully.

howl jenkins pendragon x gn! reader
The living castle chugged steam from it's tall engines, emitting smoke up into the crystal-blue sky after every lanky movement. With each savage huff that escaped the living home, you teetered across the rugged wood floors.
You were busy cleaning away at the lonely rooms, each inhabiting disparate articles of knick-knacks and eye catching souvenirs. It was like caring after a bunch of children really, Howl and Markl always on the move and not bothering too clean up after each other.
Perhaps that was just the reason the fire demon had 'hired' you too clean up this place.
You had spent long, atrocious hours sweeping away at each room, shooing pesky soot gremlins that had found their way into silent corners. The hard work was appreciated from Calcifer, the occasional coal stirring praises from his flame-coated mouth, but was quick to be destroyed when Howl came dragging himself through the house.
You perked up to see Markl bounding after his mentor per usual while the blond dragged a green substance across the mostly-clean floors, now stained with goo.
"Now this won't do, Calcifer keep the castle headed west, down to the folding valley." You corrected the direction before throwing the demon a hefty stack of wood that he eagerly gobbled into the flickers.
The trip running up the stairs and down - twice - was a brief exchange. You had croaked out directions to the child and a full Calcifer. Going as far as to draw a steaming bath in the nearest lavatory, next rushing a sticky Howl into the room.
"Well then, I'll need you to cooperate if this is going to work out. Arms up-" The only noises that left his mouth were strangled mumbles about god knows what, but it was obvious in the way he sank against the rim of the tub that he was out of it.
"You only get like this if one out of two things have happened," you huffed into the steaming room, busy putting your elbow into scrubbing off the green liquid from his person "you've bitten off more than you can chew or someone's rejected your feelings."
You could tell by the way he grumbled on cue that it was the latter. Occasionally some foreigner, man or woman, would whisk Howl away to keep their minds (and bodies -) busy for a while. But in the end, he was always the one sulking about passionate feelings and the strands of hope he had clung on to for a relationship that was doomed to break. Sometimes you'd wish one of these failed flings would knock some sense into the hopeless romantic but the next thing you knew, he was smitten for the first vixen passing through.
Regardless of the repetitive broken hearts and sob stories that he spewed out from pretty-pink lips, you were always there to calm the storm, wiping salty tears from his face.
"Don't waste your tears on that woman, Jenkins, she was no good to begin with." You usually quipped up a response with honeyed words and embraces but you were honest with him this time 'round. "She doesn't deserve your heart, so don't bother dwelling on what could have been. It's best to look past that and move on, dove."
Anyone could tell you it was easier said than done but you had already heard that over the many break-ups and each time, you reluctantly soothed him.
In the end it was you and him in a steam-filled bathroom, wind-chimes twirling up against the high windows to fill the silence, along with the swirling waves of bubbles that pooled over the rim and leapt in crashes. You had a puffy-eyed Howl leaning up against the edges of your shoulder while he sniffed away remnants of his story, hands tugging at the hems of your white sleeve. He was dramatic, truly, but you let the emotions reel on.
The negative aura seeped out of the room after his last tear fell, the crystal arching over his cheek before leaping into the unknown. By then you had cupped his cheeks into your hands, thumbs brushing away the evidence from his skin.
"Thank you," Howl spoke in his lilted voice for the first time in that interaction, throat bobbing when he swallowed down the pained emotions.
In reality you had cleaned away the gooey mess from his body, but you'd also stripped him of the grief weighing him down. Giving him a chance to breathe.
