Marvel Team-Up #12 (Wein/Kane, Sept 1973). Ugh, we get it, Steve! Looking for a distraction from his grief, Pete teams up with Cap and SHIELD to battle the Grey Gargoyle and AIM. Spidey’s been quipping a fair bit already but Gil Kane’s art captures more of the silly, annoying personality I expect. (In one scene, he sits cross-legged in a web swing while Nick Fury briefs Steve.) I love the idea that Pete’s most recognizably silly quirks are specifically in response to Gwen’s death. As ever, Pete endures with humor.
