my two cents on the grid girls discourse that i haven't seen on my dash, a larger point that i don't think is heard of enough.
of course we're talking about a systemic issue when the only iclusion of women in the f1 grid is by having them as grid girls. but then, as far as viewing them as people is concerned, monetising beauty will not be eradicated and good for them if they want to take advantage of that.
objectification is something that ive seen most of us do, hell, scroll through my blog and it's in my pinned post. but i digress, im not here to summarise what's been already said.
my point is that we keep putting 'celebrities' (drivers in this instance) to such a high moral pedastal. while i don't believe that any of them are bad people who would knowingly hurt someone or contribute to an issue, it is worth noting that we're talking about 20 privileged men who have spent most of their lives inside a very specific bubble, surrounded by like-minded people. there's no way to know for sure the exact environment they grew up and matured in, but what im trying to say is that im not about to fault a driver who does what he does for 'glory' and passion, for not thinking how i, a woman with a bachelor's in sociology and waaayy too much free time (especially in comparison) and access to the internet, think.

I've hated the drivers presentations. We started to stop the objetification of women in F1 getting rid of grid girls un 2018 and now in 2023 USA puts cheer leaders at both sides of where the drivers come out...
I get that cheerleaders are a big thing in USA, but if they want to include them do It by doing a cheer routing, not standing there looking pretty.
