what do you think is Guts’ an Griffith’s biggest fears?
Guts: anything bigger and stronger than him. I think that's essentially what the monsters function as in Berserk, thematically - personifications of Guts' fear stemming from his childhood trauma. I mean, that's essentially stated when Guts encounters Zodd and the narrative describes him as terror itself:.
Griffith: I'm going to say failure to achieve his dream. Guts leaving him was worse on him, but it's not something he lived a good portion of his life in fear of the way I think he lowkey, mostly subconsciously, lived in fear of failure. And he sacrifices Guts because he caused him to fail to achieve his dream, by becoming more important.
As a fear it's something that in a happy ending Griffith would've been able to grow past, but he never got the chance to in Berserk.
Like I'd describe Griffith as being driven by guilt, but that kind of goes hand in hand with a fear of failing to achieve the dream so many died for. The fear isn't given centre stage for Griffith the way it is for Guts, thematically, but yeah as a headcanon that's my answer.

“Go torture someone else who’s more into you.”

It didn’t seem to matter what you did, he would always come back with these huge puppy dog eyes and a grin that could cut glass.
Maybe that’s what made you start to give into his charms?
When you finally allow him into your life, take you on dates and such, he often tries to pester you just to get you fired up. He thinks it’s hot, you think it’s utterly annoying and misleading.
“You’re trying too hard, Lawrence.”

As Johnny had aged, he learned the skill of having to fend for one’s self before tending to anyone else. This asset had instantly peaked his interest upon meeting you.
You, getting the job rather easily, tended to the children in the Cobra Kai dojo when class was in session, helping to guide and help instruct every motion the senseis provided.
Like younger Johnny, older version of him also found this very endearing and headstrong, allowing him to feel safe and comfortable around you, knowing you could handle yourself in most situations.
Yes, being egocentric is very selfish or self-regarding, but it works in his world. In a world where John Kreese and Terry Silver reside in, hell, even Daniel Larusso.
However, catch Johnny on a bad day, and that’s his favorite topic to target:

Shadow 3-07 Thoughts! :D
So I'm about to lore dump. Buckle in for the ride if you're gonna read this.
General Information
3-07's real name is Alex Griffith, born in Australia. Their family is of Welsh origin, but they are quite disconnected from the culture as it is far back in the family tree.
They are roughly 5'9" and have (very obviously dyed) red hair. They have hazel eyes and slightly tan skin but are still pretty pale.
LORE
Just little things I've had about them in my notes app
1.
They have had several crappy relationships. They would have given the world for those people but they never got treated right. Their were no affection in the relationships. Alex was just for the props of having a 'girlfriend'. They have trust issues because of this, afraid the next time them date someone, they'll leave them because they aren't 'cool' anymore.
2.
They really like building and inventing things. They made this cool type of harmless fire that they use to cauterise wounds when they work.
3.
They always like having heart to heart talks with the people they trust. Even then, it's hard to be honest, so they just work and work until it spills out eventually
4.
The place they had their first kiss was an airport after their first mission with Shadow Company. They got so excited to see their childhood best friend that they kissed them out of impulse. They dated for a little while but eneded it on good terms and are still friends.

Alex smokes. They don't do it very often because of lung health and stuff, but if they need time away, they go to the roof of the base and have a cigarette. Sometimes, someone joins them. Once Graves even joined them.

They adore thunderstorms. Whenever they hear the pitter patter of rain starting, they race up to the roof and get soaked before trudging back down and having a hot shower. It refreshing.

Their callsign is Reaper. The Shadows nicknamed them this because they're a medic and are 'in close relations with the Grim Reaper'... and definitely not because they are absolutely feral when fighting.

The Shadows have made (Don't Fear) The Reaper by Blue Öyster Cult Alex's theme song.

They know French. Not because they need to or anything. They just find it funny to break out randomly into angry French.

They have a wall in their room just covered in about $200 worth of polaroids of the Shadows and them.

During the time Shadow Comapny worked with Ghost & Soap, them and Soap hit it off and started babbling to each other about stupid things at, like, the speed of light cause... ADHD. They mainly talked about sketching and journaling.

They weren't there when the massacre at Las Almas/Alone mission happened. They only know that something happened and they can't talk to Soap or Ghost anymore because they're enemies.

They've broken so many bones omg. Leg, arm, collarbone, fingers. SO MANY

Their parents weren't very... present. They took care of their 2 siblings from a young age and almost cry if anyone jokingly calls them a mama's boy when they talk about the (few) fond memories they have of their mother.

Terry Silver notices you.
Whoever you are, cousin, sister, Hawks friend or Samantha, he notices you immediately. That's unusual to catch an eye without any effort. There is something in you that just engages him.
To be clear, there is a big age gap between you two, but he doesn’t care at all (in contrary to other people).
Terry is kind of obsessive, manipulative and possessive. He can be defined as „gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss,”.
He would obviously try to make the best impression on you, with it being quite easy for master of lies™ himself. Mr Silver (as you called him at the very beginning) can spend hours talking with you. After maybe a month he is your best friend. I don’t blame you, this man can be very persuasive.
When you start calling him Terry, he starts to overwhelm you, step by step.
In the beginning, you would never think about getting involved with someone that older. You treat him like a really close friend, someone who gives you really great advice. (Put Daddy issues on headphones).
You never had an easy life, there were always some problems, but since he was near, they multiplied. You would never think how many of them Terry provoked. Mr Silver keeps you apart from your closest friends and family. It was only a matter of time when he was your only ally. You could always trust him, so who else do you need?
Terry wants you to be completely dependent on him. Terry has some kind of abandonment issues.
Not so long time after becoming friends, you started to fall in love. Terry also changed his attitude toward you. He was playful, sometimes even flirty. You had big hopes for this relationship, but the time of the tournament was near. It means a recess from him (really busy), you have never felt so lonely.
After the tournament things started getting faster and faster. Only two days after that Terrence confessed what he felt. He knew that after his „little interventions”, you had no one around. After a really lonely month you were more vulnerable, so you didn’t even hesitate to immediately move to him.
It was really easy to control every aspect of your life since you lived with him. Cameras around the house in almost every corner, you need to tell where you go, with who and even why. It was like a nightmare. That was the first time when you noticed how unhealthy this relationship is.
But how can this be a nightmare? You get expensive gifts almost every day, you must barely do something around the house, and Terrence was so loving. Silver works much, his business and dojo take time. The evenings are reserved for you. You two neither lie together in bed, your head on his chest, watch a film nor spend time more actively (interpret it as you want).
Your job was the only thing that he didn’t affect. Obviously, Terrence many times offered you leaving work, but you wanted this one thing in your way.
Don’t think he's the „big bad mob” all the time, there are some rare moments when he's the one that desperately needs comfort. In those moments he is the man you loved.

GRIFFITH HEADCANONS
silly version
griffith strikes me as the type of guy to sleep with socks on. i don’t know where it comes from, but it’s just a feeling i have.
he also strikes me as the type of guy to sing as he bathes. not quite belting it out, but not exactly quiet either.
i think he smells like outside. you know what i mean? like fresh air.
a god at playing chess. i feel like he could beat anyone playing chess.
i feel like he doesn’t like coffee. i feel like he doesn’t like the smell and he doesn’t like the bitter flavor, but also doesn’t want to add a ton of sugar to it to make it sweeter.
strikes me as a strawberry shortcake type of guy. i don’t know why, but i’m adding that on here.
i feel like he’s braided his hair at least once.
i also could see him reading like any book he could get his hands on. even if it’s a a manual on how to be a midwife. i feel like he love being knowledgeable.
if shit didn’t go the way it did, i could see him collecting books too.
since he’s a the leader of the band of hawk, he’s gotta train a lot so he doesn’t have a lot of free time, but when he does i feel like he spends it in a field. or like, perched on a rock and nature watching.
also, i feel like he plucks grass out of the ground when he’s by himself and bored.
i could see him being able to name every bird that flies by and point out the constellations in the sky.

White Hawk Timeline Hcs
Part 1
Tw: mentioned sexual assault
A lot of Griffith’s men are sick, so he stops in a town in search of a doctor. In town, he senses the brand of sacrifice as well as something he can’t place, so he follows the pull until he comes to a clinic. In the back of his mind, he knows that the brand belongs to Nori. Griffith feels his heart start to beat, just as he did on The Hill of Swords. Excitement.
Griffith’s mere presence is too much for Nori’s body. He’s unable to register the sound of the people around him panicking. He can only feel the pain and fear because Nori knows that whatever the brand was reacting to was a bigger evil than he could fight. Not only that, but he’s scared for himself, his son, and the people of the town. Then, all of a sudden, the pain is gone. There's a hand on his shoulder, and he hears that voice. His voice. Griffith. The people around them seem to disappear, and as Nori looks up at him, it's like it’s only them in the room. Like a stoat in a hawk’s claws.
Griffith tells Nori that he’s glad to see he is well, and he really is. Nori just looks away from him. Griffith knows he can’t lose Nori again, so he tells him that his men are sick and that he needs help. Nori, much to his detriment, is a compassionate man and decides to help.
After agreeing to this, Nori is told by Griffith that he’ll be safe from the evil spirits if he stays by his side. He agrees, but is hesitant. When Griffith goes to leave, Nori stops to bring a boy. To which Griffith realizes the boy is not only Nori’s child, but was a product of him being raped by the king. He also realizes that this child was tainted by the Eclipse, and he had been sensing him alongside the brand.
Now, Griffith feels nothing towards Cassius. The boy may be the product of the abuse he had witnessed Nori go through, but Griffith only feels for Nori and Guts. He doesn't care about Cassius outside the fact that he is a potential way to the throne. Outside the shop, Nori, Cassius, and Griffith are confronted by Mule and Sonia. The two are curious about Nori and his son. Sonia is quick to ask questions, while Mule tries to stop her.
At the camp, Nori instructs his doctors and nurses as they take care of the sick men. He also has to sleep in Griffith’s tent at night, or at least have an apostle with him to protect him from evil spirits. Nori himself takes care of the sick as well, causing him to end up sick himself. Griffith panics slightly when he hears this, but is unable to go to Nori at first. When he does get to him, Griffith finds Nori in the tent of his closest doctor James, and he’s not pleased.
James is far too close to Nori and even tells Griffith that he needs to leave. Griffith eventually gets James to back down and takes Nori back to his tent. Where, in his mind, Nori belonged. Griffith spends as much time with Nori as he can. He’s reminded of just how human and vulnerable the man is.
Griffith hates seeing Nori whimpering and crying in his sleep. He does relish that he can hold him. When Nori’s fever breaks, he tries to go back to work, but Griffith forbids him from doing so. Griffith keeps Nori from working up until the sickness passes.

i've been thinking about this a lot lately, and since you ship these characters, this is a good place to make this question. (also, feel free to link me to it if you already answered something like this!)
when griffith said that guts was the only one who made him forget his dream, do you think he could potentially put it aside to be at guts' side, or am i just thinking too much?
i actually tried to see that with my gay switch turned off, but it automatically turns on when i see stuff like this. i mean, is there even a way to see it in a non-romantic way? his dream was the most important thing and then… guts.
i really hope that griffith somehow says these exact same words at guts' face in the future before he dies/if he dies, just for the sake of the tragic gay ending.

Yeah I think it's like, hard canon that he values Guts over his dream. We see it when he risks his life (and consequently the dream) to save Guts' life multiple times, when he throws the dream away after Guts leaves (and that's exactly how it's framed in the scene with the King in the torture chamber), and when Griffith directly thinks about how "Now as he shines so glaring within me... the junk grows dull."
I think he definitely had the potential to put it aside to be with Guts, though I don't think he necessarily would unless circumstances forced him to choose. In an AU where Guts never left there's no real reason he couldn't have his cake and eat it too lol. But yeah given the choice between Guts and his dream, he'd choose Guts as he did over and over again during the Golden Age. Even when he finally chose his dream for good during the Eclipse, it was specifically because Guts is more important than the dream. If anything the Eclipse was as much to escape Guts' hold over him as it was to pursue the dream.
Though I do think that in an AU where Griff becomes king the mundane way and Guts stays with him and they like, have a secret relationship for a few years, Griffith would inevitably chill out enough about the dream that it would stop mattering so much and he would no longer be motivated by guilt and the need to make thousands of deaths meaningful by creating a utopian society. I see it as a subconscious organic process, like slowly but surely Griffith just grows more emotionally healthy due to being more emotionally open and having positive relationships with people, especially Guts, who he can rely on to mitigate his self-loathing, yk? So in that sense I think that Griffith could put aside the dream for Guts eventually, just by not irrationally prioritizing it above everything else.
And yeah it's homoerotic as hell lol, I can't see a non-romantic explanation either. I sometimes pay lipservice to the idea that it could be platonic affection, but let's be real, not only is it love, it's practically love at first sight. It's not just Guts becoming his first True Friend whose opinion he respects and who can be an external source of validation that helps make him less emotionally reliant on his dream, because Griffith risked it all like a week after meeting him lol. Guts was the first and only person Griffith ever asked to join the Hawks, and Casca even has a little angry internal monologue about how Griffith has never spoken to anyone else the way he speaks to Guts when he says he wants him.
Also especially after seeing some more of Miura's translated interview excerpts I figure there's like, no way the homoeroticism was accidental.
And oof that would be a painful, but satisfying final exchange between them, nice.
(Some of what I said here kinda relates to a specific reading of Griffith and the dream I have, which I explain at great length here lol. Basically the idea that he's driven to achieve it because of guilt and a lack of intrinsic self-worth, and that Guts replaces the dream as his source of validation. So yeah if you want an explanation for that, voila.)

He's loosened up and is more prone to pulling pranks
