A love letter to our Elriel fic writers, but my love language is memes... sorry

My hope is to spread some much needed positivity, and send a bit of love to some of the amazing Elriel fic writers who bless us with their talent; there are obviously many, many more than those named here - and all are worthy of our awe and gratitude - but I can only add ten images (thanks, Tumblr).

@nikethestatue I don't think I can ever top the "miss fluff and smut" meme in terms of a laugh, but fluff and spice aren't the only hats you wear. You mix plot and world building and lore, then break down our emotions before rebuilding them. Your characters are like an extension of canon, and each time I see an update, I want to drop everything.

@tswaney17 you have the variety, the talent, the everything... and I'm in awe. Modern AU or canon compliant, fluff or angst or plot, you truly have something - and then some - for everyone. Plus Shadow the kitten, who deserves his own spin-off.

@fawnandshadows you are the complete package! I don't know how you do it all, and work in all of the plot, too! Your... creativity 😉... knows no bounds, you absolute gift to the fandom. Thank you for sharing your talent with us, we love you.

@impossiblescissorspeachpaper is your destination for a one stop shop of emotional highs or lows - or highs and lows - complete with some of the loveliest prose you'll ever read. I am honestly amazed at your ability to capture everything so well, each and every time.

@thefangirlofhp - is the queen of "angst rules"; this is canon, lads... don't let her tell you otherwise. 😅 But honestly, this doesn't do justice to the exquisite content she creates. You don't read a thefangirlofhp fic so much as you live one, and you will never be the same again. Please let me move into your vault?

@rhysanoodle is currently tearing our guts out with Between Light and Shadow, so I'll continue the 'The IT Crowd' theme I appear to have going for her (if it ain't broke don't fix it, hey). Thank you for being around for so long, and sharing all of your wonderful Elriel stories with us.

@gripefroot blesses us with a fix of A Court of Dusk and Shadows every Wednesday, and it's a fic that's so stunning I don't even know how to begin to describe it. What will I do when it's finally over? Who knows. Maybe throw myself into Mount Doom to avoid an existence without it.

@dottielovegood the worlds you create, and the characters you write - whether canon universe or modern AU - are practically perfect in every way. Your spice metre is off the charts hot, but your fluff is also perfect, as are your characterisations. Run, don't walk, to a DottieLovegood fic near you.

@gopeachllama, the way you can craft a sentence in which all the words are pulling double duty for both meaning and beauty is a wonder. Please teach me your ways! Thank you for the honour of being your occasional beta, getting to see your genius in action, and discuss the depth of thought you put into your fics, is humbling in the best way. 💜

@danydragons21 - perfect plot, exquisite drama... aaaand the cliffhanger. Gets me each time. Every time I see a new chapter alert, I come running. 😌 Thank you so much for sharing your talent and genius with the fandom.

I just want to say that I appreciate all these Elriel fanfic writers blessing us with their amazing content. I'm constantly searching through AO3 or tumblr for some elriel fics when I can, and every time I find one I get a giant boost of serotonin. It makes my day so much better and makes the waiting game less painful as we wait for Elain's book to come out. On a personal level, it brings me so much joy to read and look forward to something, especially in these tough times. Sincerely, thank you for what you do. Each and every one of you is so incredibly talented!!! 💖🦇💙

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

150, 310. BUT I only started on AO3 this year. Before my 9 year hiatus from fanfiction, I posted exclusively on my livejournal, which, read at your own risk, I guess?

3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

I had to go to my old Livejournal tags for the answer, which is 10 -- ACOTAR, Parks & Recreation, Community, Chuck, Law & Order UK (for some reason, only the UK edition?), Life On Mars, Ashes to Ashes, House, Doctor Who, Harry Potter

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

There are only 4, but, in order, they're:

Bloom & Bone (Elain/Tamlin, Vassa/Lucien) aren't you scared (well that's just fine) (Gwynriel with a side of Emorie) the pilgrim soul in you (Vassien) as the heart grows bolder (Helion/Lady of Autumn)

5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I try to respond to all of them, because I really appreciate anybody who takes the time to comment on my writing! I'm not at 100%, but close.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Lately, that would be as the heart grows bolder, but I did write some extremely angsty House fic circa 2006 that I hope never again sees the light of day.

7. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Bloom & Bone! After I finished my first draft, I thought it might be too happy, but I stand by it. It's definitely the happiest ending I've ever written, though.

8. Do you write crossovers? If yes, what’s the craziest thing you’ve written?

No, which is kind of funny given that my dream scenario is all of my friends being friends with each other.

9. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Not that I can remember! Which is kind of wild, given that I just finished writing a big Elain/Tamlin fic and also once wrote Martha/Master Doctor Who fic.

10. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Yes but tasteful? I wrote my first intense s*x scene where everyone had a good time a few months ago and I loved it. Before that, I'd written either quick scenes or they were extremely literary and no one enjoyed themselves.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

This is embarrassing, but a "friend" once stole a paragraph from one of my fics... and I left them a comment complimenting them on it, only to realize what had happened a few months later. I never spoke to that person again.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No but if you ever want to translate my fics, that would be amazing!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic?

Once! I'm down to do it again in the future, though.

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

The thing about me is that I ship every ship when I really think about it.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Nine years ago, I wrote a Community AU where Jeff was Annie's law school professor and only got halfway through -- I still like it but I think too much time has passed.

16. What’s your writing strengths?

Writing beautiful sentences and developing characters.

17. What’s your writing weaknesses?

I hate writing battle scenes and always try and find a way to break them down into smaller pieces or avoid the battle through diplomacy. Anything to avoid having to learn military strategy.

18. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in fic?

This is interesting because a lot of my original fiction deals with Cubans and Cuban-Americans, who speak a lot of Spanish. So I've thought about this issue a lot. I try to only use another language if it's essential to the story or character, or if the word/phrase only exists in that language. For example, in Spanish there's "aprovecha!" which literally translates to, "take advantage of your favorable situation!" and that's just not the same thing. I try to provide translations when it flows in the story, but I don't always do this specifically for Spanish (or French, on the rare occasion when I use it) because it's relatively easy to look up.

19. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter, which I now feel weird about given everything we know about JKR.

20. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

Currently, it's aren't you scared? (well that's just fine). Something about Gwyn really, really clicked for me in that fic, and although I literally wrote it in a morning, I'm very proud of it. I'm working on a longer Gwynriel fic at the moment, and I think it's even better -- I can't wait until it's ready to share.

#3- Nurse and Protect

This fic has some of my better writing, and part of the reason why I have a dear Tumblr mutual now, but WOW, I cannot write romance.

#2- Stuck in the Storm

this one was a delight to write, I just loved exploring Din's character of needing and wanting to take care of Grogu, but is embarrassed that he will have to do it in front of a being that is not a close friend.Here's the summery:

The child kept bumping his mouth against his chest, despite there being beskar and a shirt hindering him from latching onto his nipple. The little one looked up at Din, eyes asking Din to eat, then whined and began scratching and pawing at his chestplate. Din knew that he was going to have to feed the kid, even though there was another person present. He could always just shoot the Quarrin, but the client asked for the bounty to be brought in alive. He knew that waiting out the storm wasn't an option either. They storm was going to last for a while, and Din didn't have any ration bars on him.

#1- the unnamed WIP that will be my first multi-chapter fic!!

It's an au that is honestly kind of sad: I made Grogu go blind from the Imperial's experiments on him from Chapter 3 of The Mandalorian. So, yeah, it's basically The Mandalorian but Grogu is blind.

so I read a specific Elriel fic today and I’ve been thinking about it all day long. Do you have any fic recommendations where Az or Elain finally snap? Like they blow up at Rhys or each other for the miscommunication. I just live for the explosion moment 😭

@gripefroot has a great fic, which is set post solstice and there is definitely a good amount of snapping. It's multi chapter, complete.

@danydragons21 same--it's ongoing, but there was a massive snap.

@thefangirlofhp has a great one shot fic from last october where Az is going feral on Rhys, and Rhys retaliates
