Alecto and John Gaius

So, I have a theory about Alecto, the Necrolord Prime, and the Locked Tomb (sounds like the beginning to a bad joke, but stick with me).

TL;DR: I think John and Alecto switched bodies and have been fooling everyone for 10,000 years. More under the cut.

So, the basics of Lyctorhood are one flesh, one end. We learn this explicitly in Gideon the Ninth when Ianthe kills Naberius and absorbs him.

"'I haven't killed Naberius Tern. I ate Naberius Tern.'... 'I am more than the sum of his half, and mine.'" - Ianthe Tridentarius about her ascension, Gideon the Ninth, Page 384 "'So that is Lyctorhood,'... 'enormous power, recycled within you, from the ultimate sacrifice'" - Silas Octakiseron on Lyctorhood, Gideon the Ninth, Page 385

This is further substantiated by Cytherea's words to Ianthe and Gideon's sacrifice to power Harrow.

"'You aren't completed, are you?... Mine went willingly, and it hurt for centuries'"- Cytherea Loveday about Ianthe's recent ascension and her own, Gideon the Ninth, Page 421 "'You ate me and rebuilt me.'" -Gideon Nav to Harrowhark Nonagesimus, Gideon the Ninth, Page 436

And we, the reader, understands this to be true. When we meet Mercymorn the First and Augustine the First, they've completed the Eightfold Word by absorbing the souls of their cavaliers. Cristabel and Alfred, respectively.

The Eightfold Word was discovered by the necromancers that would become Lyctors and their cavaliers, aided by Emperor John Gaius. We assume that the Eightfold Word must be a necromancer absorbing their cavalier to become the ultimate in necromancy, an endless well of thanergy and thalergy. But then we learn that the Eightfold Word that we have been reading about is incomplete, a half measure, an imperfect method. We learn that Alecto (or A.L.) was not God's bodyguard, but his cavalier. And Alecto had golden eyes.

Alecto was sealed away 10,000 years ago. But Gideon Nav, Harrowhark's cavalier, gained those golden eyes when Gideon took over Harrow's body during the attack of Number Seven on the Mithraeum. And so Augustine and Mercymorn deduced the truth- that Gideon Nav, a woman they knew to be the daughter of John Gaius, had Alecto's eyes.Which, of course, is impossible, unless they were originally John's eyes, due to dios apate, major

We learn all of this in Harrow the Ninth, as well as the fact that Anastasia the First and Samael Novenary were close to cracking perfect Lyctorhood. One that, in Mercy's words "'preserves the cavalier'" (Mercymorn Cristabel, Harrow the Ninth, Page 481).

When confronted about the deaths of Anastasia and Samael, John Gaius says that "'it's not as simple as her getting it right, and me stopping her... She hadn't got his soul all the way inside her'" (John Gaius on Anastasia the First, Harrow the Ninth, Page 482).

So I present that Alecto and John Gaius are still alive, as they completed the perfect Eightfold Word. John mentions getting the soul of the other inside you. So I think that John Gaius and Alecto swapped bodies during the perfect Eightfold Word. I think that John Gaius is inside the body of Alecto inside the Locked Tomb on the House of the Ninth, and that Alecto inhabits the body of God, and has done so for the last 10,000 years. This is what turned the kind man of John Gaius into the monster of Alecto, who was the person John committed the first Resurrection for.
