I think what I’m most upset with with Adam and Eric’s break up is how abrupt and out of the blue it seemed. Like those last 2 episodes hit me like a freight train and then I thought we’d move past it when Adam forgave him but Eric then ran me over with a semi UGH

I’m upset because they were on such a long, painstaking, beautiful, and vulnerable journey together and it felt like they’d both made incredible progress and then BOOM it was all over.

Adam isn't boring, and he definitely has the potential to be even better.

If being around him felt like a chore, Eric wouldn't have chosen to go see him at the scrap yard multiple times. Not to mention choosing to be with him during the play.

And it's important to note that Adam spent years under his father's thumb. We don't know the full extent of what was happening to him over the years, but it's safe to say it wasn't pretty. His room was completely devoid of Adam's personality because his father decided so, he had to hand in his phone every night, until his parents' divorce he didn't have much to do, nothing of interest he could've done, no hobbies. It's safe to say that if his father saw him doing something for fun, completely innocent and all, he would still find a way to cruelly berate Adam for it.

How do you survive in an environment like that, not to mention thriving?

I'm really hoping and praying that in season 3, without his dad breathing down his neck, we will see more of Adam for who he is - what he likes, what he doesn't like, what interests him, what are his plans for the future. There is so much potential in him and I'm really excited to see what the writers of the show came up for my boy.

eric is a great friend for sure, but he’s such a bad bf. he made Adam come out to the whole school when he wasn’t ready at all and also to his mum, which was worse considering their complicated relationship. i feel like Eric was not bieng considerate with Adam at all. i was a groffiong shipper until i realized that Eric was doing all of this for his own benefit + he made him do all of this and then he cheated on Adam while he was in Nigeria. i also think ruby deserved better. otis was the first person she ever loved and right after they broke up, the directos paid no attention to her anymore. but i can’t really complain about this, cause we can’t change people’s feelings but i am mad at the writers of s3 AKFKSFJOI

Adam's story arc

Some people complain that Adam's redemption was written poorly and that he didn't deserve to be redeemed or at least not be with Eric.

Y'all this is a show about teenagers. How many mistakes have you made as a teen?? I bet many, because teenagers are fucking idiots.

Also Adam only started questioning his sexuality and bullied Eric because the boy reflected his own attraction to men which Adam denied or even despised at that time. The aggression against Eric was wrong, no doubt, but it was an ultimate result of Adam's toxic masculinity and partially because of his attraction to Eric. Girls and boys have been told for ages that boys are mean to girls they like, so Adam most likely used this tactic subconsciously.

I'm not making excuses here, I'm trying to have a look at Adam's motivation.

Also Eric was attracted to Adam and when they had that "moment" during detention, Adam finally gave in to his feelings and desires. Eric wanted Adam and vice versa. So it's really understandable that Eric also still has feelings for Adam and that he ultimately wanted to be with him.

TL;DR: teenagers are stupid, feelings and love are complicated and don't always make sense, being a queer teen is often a pain in the ass (if your dad isn't as chill as Jakob)
