Demon!Eddie part 1

Premise

# hype's demon!Eddie fic

The summons comes on a hot and humid night in the middle of summer, thunder clouds rolling sluggishly across the sky. He doesn’t know what year it is, doesn’t care enough to keep track, just knows that the new millennium is still young and that there's a new Star Wars movie out. They're not as good as the old ones, of course - brimming with fancy special effects but lacking all of the magic, all of the heart. But he doesn't venture into the human plane often, these days, and it's not like he has anything better to do.

He has just made it through the sheer endless row of trailers and the even more endless row of commercials and is getting comfy in his seat, and the first notes of the familiar theme are starting to fill the theater when he feels it. The unmistakable  painful pull just above his navel, like somebody has dug a hook into his flesh and is yanking on it. 

A groan that is equal parts pain and annoyance tears its way out of his throat, because really? Now? 

He sits with gritted teeth, fingers digging into the armrest, and tries to ignore it. It's probably a bunch of tipsy teenagers messing with a oija board or some college girls playing Bloody Mary in their dorm room. They'll chicken out soon enough. 

Except they don't and the pull is getting harder to ignore by the minute. 

"Jesus fuck-" he mutters. Can't a guy watch his shitty movie in peace?

The invisible hook gives a violent lurch and he almost topples off his seat. 

Well, that answers that. 

He knows there's no getting out of this, not when it gets this bad, and he knows how the boss gets when he tries to slack off. There's really no way out of it, is there?

So he heeds the call.

I love that identity reveals between Jim Gordon and Bruce in fic almost always go the same way. Bruce goes "How did you know? Was it my acting?" and nine times out of ten Jim says something along the lines of "No, your acting was phenomenal. You gave yourself away by caring too much, Mr. Wayne."

Because the billionaire playboy cover was perfect and damn near airtight until one Bruce Wayne leapt in front of someone else during a holdup at a gala and "accidentally" got shot. No self-involved airhead with that much money riding on his life would ever -- ever -- let himself think of someone else in that moment.

Important question would it be out of line for me to pick a couple of returning competitors that never got submitted to throw back into the pool cause there are certainly a few that I like a lot and have not seen in the form at all

Cause the alternative is including every single sword that was submitted save for 5. And that just feels kinda mean you know. Like I'd rather include a few more returning swords and make 10 or so submissions sit out than have to decide on the 5 Worst Swords you know. But is that unethical lol

I looked over my posts from April Fools' Day and it honestly smacks of denial, it smacks of I wanted to dip my toe into shipping with him and seeing what people said about it when it was "a joke". my post on patch day about "I don't know how I feel" was because I did too know how I was feeling and I didn't want to admit it to myself let alone everyone else XD I knew that I'd been reading imagines since 2.0 dropped "out of sheer curiosity" (bullshit @ me), I knew that his added depth on top of his pretty boy being had him even more utterly irresistible to me, and I could not deny it any longer--but I sure tried for another eight days, huh)
