My Sister's Friend (Leah Williamson x Reader)
A/N: Hello! I've got another fic with a new player, so we'll see how it goes. The idea came from this prompt, and I chose just to make reader Alex's sister. Hope you like it!

The stadium was loud, almost shaking with sheer excitement and energy as the minutes ticked down. Chloe had just scored England’s second goal, the potential game-winner, and all of England was currently holding their breath. Each second that passed was that much closer to victory.
A voice you recognized all too well had garnered your attention. Your eyes were drawn to your screaming girlfriend as she shouted at the ref to blow her whistle. Shaking your head, you could barely hold in your laugh as you saw that there was still about five minutes left of the game with any extra time to play as well. Your girlfriend could be a little ridiculous at times.
Turning, you made eye contact with Leah’s mother who was right next to you and you both shared a knowing smile. The older woman reached down to grip your hand, helping to ground the two of you as the nerves for the blonde centerback refused to settle.
Finally, after an eternity, the final whistle blew. You and Leah’s family were screaming and yelling, absolutely thrilled for your team and your country. You hugged everyone around you as you saw all of the English players rush the field in celebration.
Eventually, after much fanfare Leah had come over after the trophy ceremony. You stood off to the side, giving Leah a moment to celebrate with her family.
"Now, how did you manage to get a seat all the way over here," Leah teased, a joke that she had used up all her comp tickets for her family and didn’t have one for you.
"Perks of your sister working in sports, I guess," as Leah stepped up to you, your hands went straight to her face, wiping the few stray tears from her eyes. “I am so fucking proud of you, Leah.”
"Couldn't have done it without your support," Leah said softly, her eyes shimmering with more unshed tears.
At those words, you fully embraced her, arms tight around her neck as you felt her arms slipping around your waist. She had tucked her head into the crook of your neck, and you allowed her to hide, your presence momentarily blocking out all of the loud cheering in the stadium. It gave her a second to breathe.
Discreetly, you pressed a kiss to her hair, holding her close, providing the safe haven your girlfriend had been deprived of since she had to leave you for the Euros.
You and Leah had originally met through your sister many years ago. You had grown up following Alex everywhere, just wanting to be around her. The almost twelve year age gap between the two of you never kept you apart. In fact there were times you really felt like Alex was a second mother to you. The two of you could share laughs and stories, but she was also there to support and raise you.
As Alex continued to rise in the ranks both for club and country, you sat back admiring and idolizing her. She was one of your best friends and you couldn’t be prouder to call her your sister.
During her last spell at Arsenal, Alex had decided to introduce you to one of her teammates that she talked about all the time. She really thought you two would get along as Alex admired the heck out of this younger girl, knowing that she was destined for big things.
She also wanted you to make friends with her teammates. With how much time you and Alex spent together, it was inevitable that you would spend time with the team as well, and she wanted to make sure you had a good friend on your side.
Fortunately, the two of you had hit it off immediately. Not only were the two of you the same age, but you also had lots in common. She got your humor and it was nice to have someone who also got along with your sister so well.
It didn’t take long for the two of you to grow close, always texting or talking to each other. Sleepovers became a common thing whenever you were in town. Leah was easily your best friend, and you were hers. And while you both denied it when people mentioned it, there was surely a lot of flirty banter between you two.
“How’s it feel, superstar?” she rolled her eyes at the nickname and it just caused your smile to grow larger.
“It feels unreal, like it hasn’t properly sunk in yet,” she answered honestly, her hand going to your side, shyly holding your hand, trying to downplay your interactions in front of such a large crowd.
The relationship wasn't quite a secret. Pretty much everyone on both her club and national team knew, as did Leah's family. The two of you just never got around to telling your family as she was afraid news would travel back to your sister, and until then you couldn’t even think about letting it loose to the public.
It wasn't really your choice to keep this a secret from Alex. Leah was just afraid of how one of her best friends would feel when she found out the blonde decided to date her younger sister.
Leah knew first hand how protective Alex was of people she loved, and honestly the blonde was afraid to be on the receiving end of a shovel talk from anyone in the Scott family.
"I really want to kiss you right now," Leah admitted, her cheeks dusted a soft pink, which had you smiling like an idiot.
"I wouldn't stop you," you said, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear before slowly sliding down to mess with the medal around her neck.
"But your sister is here," Leah reminded you, her eyes flickering up to the press box where your sister was most likely cheering with the camera crew.
"You just captained England to their first win in a major competition, and you're still scared of my sister," you raised an eyebrow at her.
“Oh, shut up,” Leah dropped your hand and playfully pushed your shoulder. “I know better than to get on the bad side of the Scott women.”
“Hmmm, very smart of you,” you reached down, recapturing her hand, playing with the tips of her fingers. Before you could say anything more, Leah was being waved over by staff and teammates to head inside.
Reluctantly, you let go, “I’ll see you after, yeah?”
You nodded, watching her go with a small pep in her step.

As you waited with your sister and Leah’s family for the Lionesses to come out to celebrate, you took some time to consider how you had gotten to this place. In a place where you were happy with your job, surrounded by people you loved, with an amazing girlfriend who loved you. The last few years really were a whirlwind.
You should have expected yourself to fall victim to the loving your best friend trope. She was just one of the best people you’ve ever known, how could you not have feelings for her. Feelings you weren’t sure were reciprocated. Not knowing what to do without ruining your friendship, you decided to play the long game, waiting in the wings until Leah gave you a sign that she was undoubtedly interested in you.
Unfortunately for you, your plans for the long game went on for far too long because before anything could come of them, Leah had confessed to having a crush on her teammate, Jordan Nobbs. Shortly after the blonde’s confession, the two of them had started dating.
It crushed you, but you put on a brave face. Well, at least you tried to. At the beginning, you felt like you were doing a good job, but as you watched Leah fall in love with the midfielder, you felt your heart cracking.
Before your heart broke fully, you decided it was best for you to put a little distance between you and Leah. So you decided to fly across the pond to attend college and study at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Unlike your sister Alex, you never found the same passion for soccer. You had grown up playing but more so for fun then for the dream of playing professionally. Instead, you had gone into media production, really taking a liking to a concentration in the sports industry, specifically women's soccer. And UCLA provided you the perfect opportunity to explore that.
Admittedly, it was probably cowardice on your part that you had kept the decision secret from Leah until just a few days before you were set to leave. And by then, she was already too busy with the start of the new season and her relationship with Jordan. To say she was upset with you for keeping that from her would be a huge understatement.
In fact, Leah had gone complete radio silence on you for months. While it hurt, it probably was for the best because it allowed you to process and move on from your broken heart.
It took almost six months for Leah to call you. You had a feeling that your sister had played a part in her reaching out, which you were secretly grateful for because you knew you couldn’t be the person to initiate contact.
By this time, you were able to handle the interactions better than before. It didn’t hurt as much to think about her with Jordan. It still hurt, but it was much duller than before, enough that you could ignore the feeling and be her best friend again. There was a noticeable shift in your friendship though.
Leah was still oblivious to your feelings, and you didn't blame her when she wanted to tell you all about her and Jordan's blossoming relationship. But in order to protect your heart, you were sure to steer clear of any Jordan talks, slyly redirecting the conversation whenever the blonde mentioned the midfielder. If Leah noticed, she never said anything.
The entire four years you were in California, you hadn’t seen Leah, always just missing her whenever you made the rare trip home for holiday breaks. The two of you did talk more than before though, sporadic texts and long phone calls when time permitted.
After graduating, you made the journey home, deciding it was time to work closer to family, really missing your mom and siblings.
With Alex's help and connections you were easily able to find work. It happened pretty quickly as you were soon hired as one of Arsenal's content creators, which was both a blessing and a curse.
With the new job came your long awaited reunion with Leah, which was full of joy and relief. But it also put you in the middle of her and Jordan's on-again-off-again relationship.
Now that you were back to seeing each other in person again, Leah was much more aware of your feelings toward her and Jordan. She noticed how quiet you would get whenever Jordan was around or how you'd find some excuse to leave. It confused her, and she hated that you all couldn’t hang out together.
She had tried so hard to have you two get along, but it never happened. Things were just so awkward, and she found herself having to split her time between the two of you.
Following Jordan and Leah’s final breakup, you had stuck by her side, comforting her throughout. Shortly after the breakup, there was a possible moment between the two of you where things had teetered on the line of friends and something more, but you had put a quick stop to it. You couldn’t and wouldn’t be her rebound after such a long and significant relationship in her life.
Leah had respected that, and pulled back a bit, needing to work through the grief of her failed relationship.
When the pandemic hit, the two of you had quarantined together. At this point, things were much better between the two of you. You were back to being flirty, almost taking things to the next level on multiple occasions, but chickening out at the last minute. Things could get testy at times with being around each other almost 24/7, but this time had solidified your feelings for the blonde centerback.
It was just the beginning of this year, New Year’s to be exact, that things finally changed between the two of you. When the clock struck midnight, signaling the new year, Leah had boldly pulled you into her arms and planted a firm kiss on your lips.
You had reciprocated almost immediately, and the rest was history. Now, you were here cheering her on as she made history.
The moment the Lionesses made their entrance, the party was in full swing. All you could really remember was that there was a lot of dancing and a lot of alcohol.
Leah always tended to be careful around you when Alex was present. She never outright avoided you because that would definitely be suspicious, but she was much more careful with her touches.
Because of this, you distanced yourself from your girlfriend at times, turning towards her teammates and your friends for entertainment. You had your fun dancing with Georgia and Ella, talking and drinking with Lucy, or singing along with Rachel.
Needing a break, you excused yourself to go to the bathroom. It was on your way back from the bathroom when you felt a hand tugging you down the hall.
When she finally stopped, your girlfriend was standing in front of you, her lip between her teeth, a sign she wanted to say something, but didn’t know how to say it.
"What's wrong, babe?" you asked, your hands going up to the side of her neck, your thumbs rubbing up and down to soothe her.
"I want to tell Alex about us," she said, not looking at you as the words came out.
While you had been waiting forever to hear her say this, the fact that she was looking anywhere but at you made you unsure. You didn’t want to push her into anything, "Are you sure? I was joking earlier about you being scared of Alex, so we don't have to do this if you're not ready."
"No, I want to. I'm ready,” she stated decisively, drawing your hands away from where they were resting on your neck. She brought them down in between the two of you, swinging them back and forth. “This is supposed to be one of the best moments of my life and right now I just want to hold you and dance with you in front of everyone. Even if it makes your sister want to kill me.”
“She won’t kill you, I won’t let her,” you said, agreeing to unleash the secret as your heart was about to burst with happiness.
With a confidence you were sure was slightly spurred on by the alcohol, Leah led you back into the party, straight in the direction of your sister who was currently talking to Jill and Ellen.
"Can we talk to you?"
A bit surprised, Alex nodded, bidding Jill and Ellen a quick farewell as she followed the two of you to a slightly quieter part of the room. The three of you stared at one another as no one knew where to start.
“Y/N and I are dating. She’s my girlfriend,” you almost choked at Leah’s direct approach. You thought your girlfriend would have eased into the conversation first.
The silence that the two of you were met with was nerve wracking. Sadly, you felt Leah slowly deflating next to you the longer the silence dragged on. You were just about to jump in and speak on her behalf when your sister sent you a blinding smile.
“Congratulations!” she shouted, throwing an arm around each of your shoulders, “I’m so happy for you two!”
“You’re not mad?” Leah quickly asked, this reaction being the opposite of what she had been expecting.
"I mean, personally I've been waiting for this since I first introduced you two," Alex confessed, her ulterior motives finally out to the world. “Why do you think I wanted you two to meet in the first place?”
Both yours and Leah's jaw dropped at the revelation.
"What? You’ve got to be joking me," Leah said, stepping out from under Alex’s hold, her mind blown. She paced back and forth for a bit as she tried to wrap her mind around this new information.
“I was rooting for the two of you from the start. I knew it was going to take some time, but I didn’t think it was going to take this long,” Alex continued saying, her arm still hanging over your shoulder as the other hand went to cup your cheek. “I knew she’d be good for you.”
“Really?” you asked, your eyes a little teary as you made eye contact with Alex who seemed genuinely happy at the news.
“Of course. I only want the best for you and for you to be happy,” you embraced your sister tightly as her words hit you full force.
“Thank you!” you whispered in her ear, "Love you."
"Love you too," she replied, letting you go.
Squaring up her shoulders, Alex stepped in front of Leah, effectively stopping the younger girl's pacing. Despite the earlier approval, Leah immediately straightened up, stiff as a board as she waited for Alex to speak.
“Now as much as I want to give you the full protective sister talk, I'll hold back for now since this is your time to celebrate, Leah," Alex said, laying a calm hand on the other girl's shoulder, relaxing the blonde. "But make no mistake, you hurt her, and I'll come for you."
Leah nodded her head in understanding, "Wouldn't dream of it."
"Okay, now off you go. Go celebrate with your mates," Alex said, shooing you two away.
You both hugged Alex, promising to meet up later for lunch or something very soon. With a small wave, you and Leah went to join her teammates on the dance floor.
"Well that was much easier than I expected," Leah mused as she pulled you up against her.
"I told you she wouldn't kill you," you chuckled, finally reveling in not having to hide your girlfriend from your family.
"Yeah, yeah, alright. Just dance with me, would you?"
Even with the music pumping, you couldn't help but get lost in being here with your girlfriend, celebrating a dream she had been harboring since she was a child.
“You're about to be even more famous than ever before. You won't forget me now, will you?” you tried joking, but a small part of your insecurities did show.
“Never,” Lead stated adamantly, drawing you in as close as possible, “I love you.”
Leaning in, you barely managed to whisper an, “I love you, too,” before Leah’s lips were placed over yours. The feeling of her after such a long time without was heavenly.
It was always hard to remember where you were when Leah was kissing you. Almost as if every thought went straight out the window. So even though you were vaguely aware of some of her teammates yelling and cheering her on, you couldn’t find it in yourself to care.
Now that the important people in your life knew about your relationship, you didn't want to hide anymore. You just deepened the kiss, feeling like you were on cloud nine.
“Hands where I can see them, Leah!” Alex shouted from a few feet away.
Slightly embarrassed, your girlfriend slipped her hands out of the shirt she had been carefully inching up.
"It's you and me, yeah?" She whispered as she hid her face in your neck.
You nodded, "Yeah. It's you and me."
The two of you danced the night away, calling it early so you could properly celebrate alone in her room. You both pretended to not see Alex’s reaction as Leah led you out of the room to many of her teammates' hoots and hollers.
