BALLING INTO LOVE : chp 6 - i did itđ

apparently peace was a hard thing to find when it came to anything that had Lee Donghyuck in the picture. you just wanted to enjoy your coffee in peace before your long and excruciating lecture that morning, but it seemed that Haechan had other plans. how he found you alone at a park was a question that came to your mind, and with his staring it sure as hell felt like a new torture method he had come up with.Â
surely he would keep his distance and stick to staring at you, more specifically staring at the large bruised bump that lays upon your forehead. the bump being a result of yours and Haechans first... encounter. but once again, Lee fucking Donghyuck had other plans.
you're determined to stick to a lack of eye contact with him, praying and hoping he would go away after seeing your eyes looking at everything BUT him. however Haechan doesnât take social cues too well, at least social cues where he is clearly not welcomed. but still, to your surprise you see Haechan taking large strides your way with an unreadable look on his face. this was not what you were expecting to happen today⌠or ever.
you quickly whip out your phone, posting a distressed tweet on your private twitter in hopes your friends would see and somehow save you, you highly doubt it though. as you put your phone down and look up to see how much time you have until Haechan arrives, you're shocked to see him standing right in front of you with his hands in his pockets and his eyes staring intensely into yours.
a moment passes where both of you havenât uttered a word, both unsure about the situation. you unsure on what Haechan wants from you and him unsure of how to start the conversation. another moment passes as you both continue to stare at each other, your body starting to fill with an uncomfortable and impatient feeling. you think to yourself âif he doesnât want to say anything, you may as wellâ.
âwhat?â you ask as you cross your arms over your chest. âwell, that sounded a bit rudeâ you thought to yourself as you see Haechan take a step back at your blunt tone. but then again, he did hit you in the head with a basketball⌠three times. he also got his friend to apologize for him, thinking back on that you feel less bad about your harsh tone towards him.Â
Haechan blinks innocently a few times before producing the most heart warming smile you didn't even know he was capable of. âhiâ he says as he continues to smile, eyes wondering all over your face and taking in your appearance. however his eyes pause as he looks at the bump on your head, smile faltering before looking back into your eyes.
âhi..?â you say, what else are you meant to say? you're not the one who started this situation. you feel a little self conscious knowing that he has been eyeing up your forehead bump. it's his fault though, it's better to show him what he did to you rather than to cover it up. âhopefully that brings him some guiltâ you think as you lightly brush over your bump, making sure not to cause any more pain than you're already dealing with.
you focus back on Haechan and observe the way he scratches the back of his neck nervously before opening his mouth to speak. âI saw you sitting alone and thought it would be better to do this now than laterâ he explains. 'do what?' you question in your head, however before you can question his words outloud, he continues talking. âjust hear me out for a minute.. pleaseâ he might as well be begging right now with how desperate he sounds, you guess you can at least sit and listen.
âI truly didn't mean to hurt you the way I did, honest! I had convinced Chenle to play some basketball with me and shoot some hoops. at one point I shot the ball and it rebounded off the backboard and flew behind me and as I looked behind me I watched as the ball hit someone in the head, which I guess happened to be you. I hadnât even realized you and your friends came to the courts as well, I promise it wasnât on purpose. and then I didn't expect you to throw the ball to me so I got scared and⌠hit the ball back towards you, which also wasn't on purpose I swear! and then when I grabbed the ball I went to come towards you to ask if you were ok and I went to reach my arms out towards you and well.. the ball slippedâ Haechan rambled on as his hands were flying all around the place, showing how intense he was feeling over this topic.
you kept a straight face as you listened to everything Haechan had to say, taking it all in as his words spilled out. once it seemed like Haechan had finished, you opened your mouth to speak but once again Haechan cut you off.Â
âI only had good intentions, I swear!... and I guess also bad luckâ he said as he winced at the replaying vision of him hitting you with the ball âIâm so sorry, I truly am. I can do anything in order to show you how sorry I am, I'll even beg for forgivenessâ he speedily said as he began to lower himself to the ground in order to kneel.
your eyes widened as you realized he was actually about to kneel before you, now that was absolutely not about to happen. you stood up from the park bench and grabbed Haechan by the forearms before yanking him upwards and away from the ground in one fast motion. once he was fully standing you whipped your head around your surroundings, checking to see if anyone saw this idiot about to kneel before you.
âY/n iâm so sorry-â he continues to talk before you cut him off. âyes Haechan i get it, please stop apologizing nowâ you said as your arms shake his body back and forth encouraging him to stop his rambling, to which he does. you drop your arms from Haechan and let out a loud sigh before speaking up once again.Â
âthank you⌠for apologizing i guessâ you start off by saying, watching as Haechanâs eyes widen and his smile grows at your words. âhowever I donât forgive you just yetâ.
as soon as those words left your mouth you watch as shock washes over Haechans face in an instant, confused by your sudden harshness. âwhat?â he whispers as he processes your words, not knowing where this conversation is going.
âas you can see I still have this stupid fucking bruised bump, which is all thank to youâ You let out a quiet giggle as Haechanâs eyes drift over to the bump on your forehead. âI won't forgive you until this bump is fully gone since you caused it, so for now you arenât forgivenâ you continue to explain, not knowing where these words were coming from. it would've been easier to forgive him and leave, so why are you doing all this?
but to your surprise, Haechanâs shocked face slowly changes into an amused expression as he takes in all of your words. he even lets out a laugh after a few seconds, confusing and shocking you even further. whats so amusing about you not forgiving him?
âwell then, i guess I'll just have to make it up to you while your bump is healingâ he says, providing no more explanation as he admires the confused look that has taken its place on your face.Â
you stand still for a moment. What does he mean âmake it up to youâ? you skim your eyes over his face, hoping your overly confused look would encourage him to explain his previous words. but all you can find is a bright smile and his eyes gazing into yours. you come back to your senses and reply to him, âgood luck with thatâ.
as you wait for a reply back from the man in front of you, who is currently too happy in this kind of situation, you watch as he settles on giving you one last smile before walking away from you.
you feel the urge to run after him and get him to spill out the explanation behind his words, but running after him would be the most embarrassing thing you could do in that situation, so you decide against it. watching as he slowly disappears from your view as you stand in the exact place he just was mere seconds ago, your thoughts are racing all over the place.
in a confused daze you grab your phone only to be met with the time, showing you that your lecture was only 2 minutes away from starting. 'how long were we even talking for?' you question as you make your way towards you class.
as you sit down in your usual seat, the only thoughts that seem to make an appearance are Haechan and his cryptic words. you canât seem to get rid of these thoughts, even when your 2 hour long lecture comes to an end and even when you have already made it back to your dorms. deciding to yourself that whenever Haechan is around or in topic, you will take high precautions as to not be messed with once again, accident or not.
but thereâs one thought that doesnât seem to leave your brain, even hours after the encounter; what could Lee Donghyuck possibly mean by âmake it up to youâ?

Soft Sunset Crosshair
The only thing I'll write for the 1000 follower celebration, LOL. Dedicated to #1000 herself, @wenalena đ Divider by @ve-ti-ver! Apologies for the shortness; my writing brain isn't braining lately but I wanted to paint a sweet lil scene. đ
The waves rolled in steadily, kissing the shore with a soothing crash and immediately dissolving into smooth foam that coated the sandy beach for a moment before disappearing. You basked in the salty breeze, closing your eyes for a moment to allow it to caress your cheek, then startling when a more tangible touch replaced it. Opened eyes met a warm gaze from Crosshair, who was snuggled up behind you. You answered it with a smile, touching your fingers to the back of his hand in appreciation.
Crosshair had surprised you with an incredible date tonight; he had found a quiet cove along the seashore, beyond the tide at its highest point, and had surprised you by decorating the inside with tiny string lights and a plush outdoor mattress with piles of blankets, backed up against the rock wall. You could lean back together and watch the sun set over the sea. And that was precisely what you were doing, tucked snugly against his firm chest, nestled between his long legs, hearing his breathing and heartbeat behind you.
"You like it?" he murmured, dry tone barely concealing the vulnerability beneath.
"It's amazing," you answered, pulling his arms around you more tightly and tilting your head against him.
He hummed his approval, pressing a kiss to the top of your hair.
"You're amazing," you continued, shifting to your side to see his face. His angular features were softened by the unmistakable affection he held for you as he met your eyes, a satisfied smirk curling his lips.
"Now you're just being ridiculous," he chastised, and you laughed in delight.
"Mmkay," you conceded, leaning in to press your forehead against the side of his face, cupping his cheek tenderly and brushing a thumb along his cheekbone before pulling back to regard him fully again. You placed one last delicate kiss on his cheek, then turned back to the glorious scene before you: creamy golden light making the tops of the waves glow as the sun made its last stand on the horizon. Colorful birds singing their evening songs. The last few people soaking it all in.
"That didn't mean you had to stop," Crosshair remarked, earning another giggle from you. He shifted you back toward him, tipping your chin with a gentle finger. His amber eyes had depths that you had yet to find the end of, and your heart skipped a beat at the smolder they currently held. "But I guess we can find other ways for you to express your admiration," he purred, cutting off your final chuckle with his lips.

Hello Morgan đ I hope you still open for writing request 'cause I have another one.
I was thinking about Kimber sharing Omega about her childhood, living with her parents and express how much she miss them with physical affection prompts number 9 & 15. If you don't mind đ
Aw this one is so sweet! Thanks, love! And to make things more fun, I took details I remember mentioning in this ask that you sent me a while back asking about Kimber's life as a child đ
"Reminiscing"
9. Wiping away someoneâs tears
15. The biggest, warmest hugs
Pairing: Kimber (fem OC) x Omega (platonic)
While in the long, blue tunnel of hyperspace, the Bad Batch were asleep, getting some much-needed rest after another hard mission. Except for Kimber. She wasn't feeling particularly tired and once Hunter fell asleep, she snuck out of their room to just have some time alone in the cockpit. However, when she stepped out of the bunk, she could see the lights were still on behind the curtain in the rear gunner's mount.
"I see somebody's still awake," she said out loud, approaching the ladder.
The curtain got pulled back and Omega's blonde head peeked out from inside. "Hi, Kimber," she said back. "I've just been watching the hyperspace tunnel. I like to do that for a bit before I sleep. It helps calm me down."
Kimber climbed up into the gunner's nook and settled down beside Omega. "I understand that," she said. "I used to like watching the twin sunset on Tatooine growing up or I'd look up at the stars before bed. Just something about either of those seemed to bring me a lot of peace as a kid."
"I don't think I've ever asked," said Omega, snuggling up with Lula in her arms, "but what was your childhood like?"
A snicker escaped Kimber's mouth. "It's been quite some time since I've thought about my childhood," she said almost absent-mindedly. "Well...I was a bit of a troublemaker when I was very young. I didn't listen very well to my parents and drove them crazy." Then she smirked at the younger, blonde Clone. "Pretty fitting considering who all I've ended up with."
Omega just chuckled, knowing Kimber was referring to her and her brothers.
"While I did get better as I got older, that headstrong and stubborn part of me never fully went away. Good thing, though," Kimber went on. "I also always wanted to help my parents with everything, even if it meant just giving them hugs whenever they were frustrated or sad. They tried not to show when they were sad around me, but I could always see through them. I guess that's another quality I've always had: being able to read the people I care about the most."
In reminiscing about her previous life, Kimber realized it had been a long time since she'd thought about her late parents. Not since she'd gone back to Tatooine and the Bad Batch had helped give them a proper burial. Not since she'd said her final goodbyes to them. Reflecting on her childhood brought about a feeling of melancholy inside her and she found her words catching briefly in her throat.
Then she continued, "My mother was the one who taught me how to be a sharpshooter. It's a good thing because if she hadn't, I wouldn't be here with you guys right now." She felt tears beginning to form in her eyes and her voice cracked slightly. "I'd always thought I'd live with them until either I got married or just decided it was time for me to be on my own...I never imagined I'd lose them the way I did."
Knowing she wasn't going to be able to keep her tears from falling, Kimber turned her head away and released the tears from her eyes, feeling their warmth slide down her cheeks. It hadn't hit her until that moment just how much she missed her mother and father. While she'd been happy and content with her found Clone family, she'd neglected thinking about her blood family; the people who had brought her into the galaxy. She felt guilty and sorrowful all at once.
Just then, she felt a smaller, gentle hand touch her face, brushing away her tears. "Don't cry, Kimber," Omega said softly. When Kimber looked at her, she then said, "I'm sorry you lost your mom and dad. I never had parents; no Clone does, but I'm glad you did and that they raised you to be who you are now. You're a great person and I'm happy you're part of our family now."
Kimber gave Omega a sad smile. "I'm happy for that, too," she said, running a hand over Omegaâs long hair. "My life has been all the better for having you and your brothers in it."
"Especially Hunter," said Omega with a cheeky grin.
"Yes, especially Hunter," Kimber agreed through a chuckle.
Omega inched over closer to Kimber. "Do you think your parents would be glad with how your life has turned out?"
Kimber lifted her arm and wrapped it around Omega's shoulders, gingerly pulling her in close. "I'd like to think they would be," she answered. "I think they would be happy as long as I was happy. The boys have taken great care of me since they found me and that's what would matter to my parents. If I'm happy and being well taken care of, then they would be glad for me." She tightened her grip on Omega's shoulders. "I think they would've been fond of all of you...especially you. I know that because I'm very fond of you."
That brought a smile to Omega's face and she wrapped her arms around Kimber's waist, hugging her tightly and warmly, which Kimber returned gladly.
A few hours later, Hunter awoke to find himself alone in his bunk. Curiously, he got up, wondering where his sweetheart had gone. She hadn't had any nightmares during their rest that he could recall, so where was she? He left the bunk and peeked out into the cabin of their ship. There was no one there, which made him wonder even more. However, when he turned around, it was then he found her.
Kimber was asleep up inside the gunner's mount, leaning up against the wall, with her arms around Omega, who was snuggled up close to her, also fast asleep.
Hunter couldn't help but smile proudly and lovingly. This was perhaps the most precious sight he'd ever witnessed and it wrought a feeling of deep love and joy within him for both of them, his two favorite girls.
He went and pulled an extra blanket from their storage and climbed up the ladder to the gunner's mount. He took a lingering glance at Kimber, taking in how beautiful she looked, and then at Omega, seeing how peaceful she was. Then he carefully draped the blanket over the two of them, making sure all parts of them were covered so they stayed warm. He placed a kiss on Kimber's temple, ran a hand over Omega's hair and then returned to his bunk.

East & South Labrador
Drove this day another 406km through the boreal forest from Happy Valley - Goose Bay to the tiny hamlet of Port Hope Simpson, which brought me back to the coast, this time the eastern Labrador shore! Apart from Labrador being the "Big Land" of forests, it's also the big land of flies, which is a bit of a shock to the system after not having had any yet in my travels so far (mosquitos yes but flies are worse). There's the huge flies that sound like a bomb is ready to go off when circling your head đł and the tiny ones that are barely noticeable but swarm you in their hundreds. Like a woman told me earlier this week; "they all bite and they're hungry!" đĽş. I had managed to dodge the large flies as they're rather slow but impossible to escape the midgets, however generally there's much less of anything on the coast so that's good news!
I won't bore you with more pictures of ugly trees, but instead here are two from Port Hope Simpson, where - you'll guess it - the first stop was at the gas bar (although I'm back now into safe territory with more gas pumps) and then checked in before 2pm already, even including an extra 30 minute Newfoundland time change, which happens somewhere obscure on the road (doesn't really matter where, as there's nothing anyway đ
). Walked a bit around the harbour and then spent Ă few lovely hours along the water reading a book - A History of Time by Stephen Hawking that my sister gave me 20 years ago and which is interesting but needs to be read piecemeal, it's been a while since I brushed up on my physics! đ
In the morning, the weather had done a 180, and changed from a sunny 28 degrees to a foggy & rainy 10 degreesđ˘. For the next few days, I was bundled up in my thermal underwear, woollen socks (thanks Tara for knitting them!), 3 layers of sweaters, winter coat, hat & gloves, whereas record heat temperatures were broken around the world...
I arrived early at the Mary's Harbour ferry dock so that I could still do a short hike up & down the hill to Gin Cove, which is not too special but still pretty enough and got me warmed up before boarding the little boat to Battle Harbour Historic site where I'm staying the night on the island. Despite the poor weather, I preferred to stay outside to watch for icebergs & whales (none) but I do see a puffin! đ With me are two elderly couples from Nova Scotia and Newfoundland who I find out are hyperactive, still scuba diving, skiing and planning a 3-week ATV road trip on their 70th, something to aspire!
Battle Harbour used to be the unofficial capital of Labrador in its heyday when it was the largest cod fishing village on the east coast and had amongst others the first hospital and Marconi wireless station. Some fishermen would stay all year, but most would travel from Newfoundland for the summer. It started declining when the school was relocated to Mary's Harbour but still operated until the cod fishing moratorium was imposed in 1992. The village is now restored and run by a historic trust, which provides visitors an opportunity to stay through all-inclusive packages. Seeing slowly the buildings come out of the clouds as the boat approaches made it even more mystical!
I'm staying in the bunkhouse all by myself (which I had already been counting on đ) which was the original cookhouse built in the 1770's. After delicious lunch, we were given an elaborate tour of the buildings, which was really interesting as it was led by a 6th generation islander, who had lots of personal stories of how she helped salt the cod. Similarly, the handyman on the boat was one of the 10-year old boys who found a plane wreck the day after it had crashed in the fog (and which I saw myself also in the fog), so that truly connects the history to the present...unsurprisingly, they're still bitter about what happened with the fishery as it destroyed their community, and some of the blame was given to the sharply increasing seal population since the hunt was forbidden in the 80's, which likely has a grain of truth (though most of the blame went to the federal government)... Despite the pouring rain, I decide to take a little hike around the island in the hope to spot icebergs (as there were 3 the day before) but all I got were beautiful landscapes and getting fully soaked. đ
Over the communal dinner table, I got to know the rest of the guests; an (apparently famous) painter from Newfoundland - Jean-Claude Roy who shares the same first name as my father & comes from the same French region, his somewhat eccentric wife and a guy from North Carolina who is shooting a documentary about JCs relationship with Battle Harbour where he's been painting for over 10 years. The other group consisted of 5 Swedish sailors who toured the world on a yacht, showing breathtaking pics of Antarctica and leaving the next morning for Greenland.... Needless to say that the evening, including a black-white 1930's movie about an Artic exploration followed by beers in the pub, provided lots of interesting conversations! Compared to this lot, my road trip is really not that specialđ.
I try another hike in the morning but the fog is even worse, so I give up quickly and instead play a patience card game in front of the wood stove, much better! The way back on the boat is quite rough but all is forgotten when the captain steers us along an iceberg!!đ I had already seen quite a few in 2010 in Newfoundland but very happy I saw one again! Back on the road, the fog was really bad but when I turned the corner onto the south shore, it suddenly disappeared and I see not one but 3 white blobs on the sea! đ Iceberg Alley made its name true and in the next two days I saw a total of 41 icebergs; anything from little "bergy bits" to tabular, drydock, dome & pinnacle shapes, very very cool & unique in the world! Most were farther away and could only be properly seen with the binoculars, but a few were close to shore.              Â
The Red Bay world heritage site has an interesting history of Basque whaling and a ferry ride to Saddle Island for an interpretative hike, but there's basically nothing left (or it was reburied for preservation) so there's a lot of imagination needed to gather what was there đ.
After a late lunch I was ready to crash in the hotel being hangover from the night before, but decided to at least drive to the start of the Tracy Hill trail, which is notorious for its 689 steps. The trail builders included corny inspirational quotes to keep you walking, and I must confess that the first one did get me to actually start: "One day or Day one?". Apart from pretty scenery, every step seemed to show more icebergs; 22 from the top, which was a perfect way to close the day!
The next morning, I woke up again in fog (getting fed up with it now!) so at the lighthouse at L'Anse Amour, I first drank my cup of tea in the car while checking out icebergs and birds. It's the tallest lighthouse in Atlantic Canada which my legs definitely felt when walking up the steps to the Fresnel lens & active light at the top. The Strait of Belle Isle provides a 200km shorter route to Europe than around Newfoundland, but has strong currents, up to 200km/hr winds & often ice, so it has had its fair share of shipwrecks & heroic tales of rescue.
Nearby, a 9,000-year-old burial mound of a Maritime Archaic Indian child was found, representing the oldest known human remains in North America but there's now nothing to see apart from pretty dunes. In L'Anse au Clair I stop at the lovely visitor centre in an old church and do a small hike to an abandoned fishing village called the Jersey Room, after the families that settled here from Jersey island near France.
When I cross into Quebec, it's suddenly 1.5 hours earlier! The entire Atlantic and Newfoundland time zones are undone in a split second, which confuses me in my day-planning and makes it a very loooong day. Checking in at the ferry terminal (more on that later), doing groceries and lunch kept me busy for a bit and then I was off to a viewpoint where I was told you could see one of North America's largest puffin colonies... which are on that island far away in the picture below... I could definitely see with my binoculars it was full of birds but whether they were puffins or gulls?!? đ Nearby were again lots of Eider duck so don't think they're that special after all... they seem to do well!
Driving west to the end of the road, there were some more pretty viewpoints and a waterfall, until I reached the Salmon Bay Farm, which is actually a scallops farm located in Salmon Bay. I've toured an oyster farm when I was little in the Netherlands and didn't realize there were also scallop farms until now. After a tour of the on-land facilities and explanation how they're cultivated (interesting titbits; scallop shells grow year rings just like trees so you can count how old they are, and they have up to 200 eyes along the edge of the shell), I chose the left scallop to taste raw (both the muscle and the roe, which were very tender) and also tasted two steamed scallops, which included also the roe as well as the baleen-like frill which is used to filter the water for nutrients. All accompanied with a glass of wine & finished with local jam biscuits, great experience!
Only 15 minutes more to the west, I reach the end of the road, thereby finishing my tour of Labrador of close to 2,000km! It was a long drive of, as someone put it; "trees and rocks, then rocks and trees, and after that trees and rocks again" 𤣠but very happy to have done it and seen this part of Canada! đđ
The only way to complete my loop back to Baie-Comeau is by a 2-day boat trip west until I reach the village of Kegaska where the road starts anew. There's no ferry but instead a cargo boat, so my car needs to be shipped into a container to make the voyage, a first for me! đ I was supposed to report this morning at 5:30am but when I dropped by yesterday, I was told that the boat got terribly delayed...likely until 10pm - midnight tonight. Good news is that I could sleep in this morning (although wide awake at 3:45 due to the time difference) and that I have an extra day here - going for a hike once this is posted, but on the flip side, I might now stay two nights onboard sleeping in a chair instead of a hotel, plus may need to cancel an excursion I had already booked for after my arrival. Mother nature is in control so hoping there won't be much more delays! đ¤
As a side note, it's shocking to realize that the time is here the same as it is in Thunder Bay, over 3,000 km to the west! No wonder that it's light so early here...
PS. the boat's departure time has just been updated to 9am tomorrow morning so I can luckily stay another night at the hotel here but will need to adjust my plans forward. It's going to be an interesting few days ahead...
Distance driven this week: 1,954km
Icebergs: 1 from Battle Harbour boat, 6 from the road, 22 from Tracy Hill, 3 from L'Anse Amour, 4 from L'anse au Clair, 6 from Blanc-Sablon

" Hi Y/N!"
" Hi, detective Sousa. " You smiled turning your head above your shoulder. " I didn't know you shop organic. " You joked turning your body toward him glancing into his shopping cart.
" You know, I need to keep this body in shape if I want to continue arresting bad guys. " He smirked, his chocolate brown eyes bright under the brightening light of the supermarket. You smiled politely before turning away from him, focusing on the alley of food. " Speaking of bad guys, whereâs your shadow? "
Your shoulders tensed as you reached for another box of cereal. Biting your lips you didn't turn around at his remarks dropping the items inside your cart.Â
" Dealing drugs? Selling weapons? The usual, right? " The policeman enumerated the numerous crimes walking dangerously close to your back, resting his hand casually on his cart.
" I don't know. " You answered your voice loud, assured. But you felt your gut clenched as you sensed his hot breath behind you. He was on to something.
Lying for your boyfriend had become second nature for you. Especially in front of the invasive detective who should know better. You turned on your heels again, taking a step back from the man, a confident smile on your face.
" Maybe you shouldn't talk or guess about other people's business and maybe work into actually catching bad guys. " You suggested to the man, raising an eyebrow.
" Maybe you should try to hang out with decent people for once, Y/N. " The detective countered, huffing. He took a step removing any appropriate distance between the two of you. " You're a smart girl. " He grinned raising his hand to put his fingers lightly against your cheek.
He leaned his face closer to yours as you tried hard to not squirm away from his touch. Calm. You needed to stay calm.
" You're going to get hurt. " Daniel smiled sadly, watching the movement of his fingers brushing your cheek gently. " You should have chosen me. " He rose his eyes to look at you, his words heavy with double meaning about your past.
" You're a dead man, you know that? " A cocky voice chuckled, behind the detective.
Disturbed, you quickly moved away from the touch of Daniel, glancing behind his back at Sam who was leaning against the coffee's shelves. His arms were crossed on his chest, his face calm, a faint smile on the corner of his lips. Daniel sighed rolling his eyes before turning towards the newcomer.
" Here it is. Rogers's lapdog" The brown-haired man smiled tightly. "Are you gonna be a little snitch, Wilson, and run to your master to gossip like old ladies?" He asked raising an eyebrow, smirking at the man.
" No need to, detective. " Sam replied enunciating the last word with a laugh. He nodded toward the ceiling.
Raising his head, Daniel's eye grew slightly big as he caught the black bulb device attached to the Whole Food Market's ceiling. He licked his lips, closed his eyes briefly listening to Sam's deep chuckle.
The dark skin man winked at you nodding to the next alley before he walked away, beaming. You took hold of your shopping cart starting to push it away from the detective.
" As usual, it was a pleasure detective Sousa. " You smiled politely at the man before walking away.
His anguish expression on his face lingered inside your mind for the rest of the day. If you only knew.
°°°
a couple of hours later;
" I fucking said, 500k Rogers! " A man roared inside the big warehouse. His voice echoed through the empty building.
Following the voice, you walked inside the dim-lit hallway biting your lips. You stopped at one of the many open doors. Watching in the shadows, your eyes immediately land on your boyfriend who was casually seating on the couch tapping on his phone, a faint smile on his face. Your worry quieted down a little as you saw him still breathing. Dealing with bad men and illegal products such as the arsenal of firearms that were lying around on the table of the room, made you a nervous wreck when you were both apart. Glancing around in the room, you saw that Rumlow was pacing around, his hands behind his back. Perched on a big new freezer at the back of the room, Natasha leisurely looked at the scene, sipping a colorful drink in her hand. She caught your gaze and winked at you.
" Aren't you going to say anything, you bastard! " Rumlow roared stopping in his steps, his eyes fuming with rage were on Steve who was still not paying attention to him. " Because that was our deal, 500K and nothing else, damn it! "
You swallowed hard feeling your hands starting to shake slightly watching closely Steve's reaction. It could go either way with him.
" No. " The blond-man finally replied, calm and confident. " The price is high because I have the Feds on my ass right now. " He looked up from his phone, his face blank of any emotions. " So you either take your loads, " Steve nodded at the heavy stuff on the table. " and pay. Or you can fuck off."
Brock scrunched his nose, balling his fists. He glared at Steve who smiled at him. Slowly, the dark-haired man nodded his head once, before rolling his eyes to the ceiling.
" Nat' will show you the exit, now. " Your boyfriend mentioned the red-haired woman at the back who hopped off of her seat, a knowing smile on her face.
Rumlow sighed passing his palm on his face before glancing at you once from where you were hidden. A slow grin appeared on his face, his dark eyes were bright of mischief, and then he turned around.
" Let's go, big guy. " Natasha called out turning her heels to walk toward the door at the back, " Before my meat started to freeze. " She added nodding at the big cooler in the room.
Frowning your eyes, you walked inside as they walked out. Steve stood up from the dark couch marching slowly to stop in front of the table. Quickly he grabbed something from it and turned toward you. It only took him less than a few seconds to aim the point of a gun at you. You stopped in your tracks, watching warily the firearm in his hand. You slowly raised your eyes to look at your boyfriend's face. His finger on the trigger, he arched an eyebrow.
" Steve, stop. " You sighed, unease growing inside your belly.
" Why? " The blond-man replied quietly, the hint of a smile appeared on the corner of his mouth. " Tell me why Y/N? " He started to take a few steps toward you, the gun still raised on you.
You saw the safety was off while the distance between the two of you grew smaller. Biting your lips, you felt like something was moving in the corner of your eyes. You glanced once at the back of the room.
" W-what's, " You stopped yourself feeling the barrel of the gun pressing against your cheek. The coldness of the weapon made your cheek cool down, you swallowed hard, trying to not step away from your boyfriend reach. "What's in the freezer?" You asked looking at Steve's dark gaze.
" My last project. " The man whispered pressing the tip of the gun harder against your skin.
He started to slowly stroke you with it, his pupils dilated watching the movement of your tongue on your lips, licking.Â
Suddenly, his other hand took hold of you, pulling your body forward. You collided against his chest hard, the barrel of the gun sliding under your chin making you raised your face to look at him. His grasp on you was tight, you whimpered faintly, feeling uncomfortable. Even though you knew Steve since high school, a part of you knew deep down that he was a dangerous man who despite loving you will not hesitate to harm you if he needed to.
" You're hurting me. " You murmured, wincing as you felt his grip on you growing stronger.
" Is that so? " Steve slid the firearm on your chest following your collarbone before pressing it under your breast. Against your heart. " Stop me, then. " He ordered you, expectantly.
You finally dropped your sight on his chest looking at the white shirt under his blue jacket.
" I don't like gu-"
" I don't fucking care if you liked it or not. " Your boyfriend hissed his hold on you making you step closer as he leaned his head onto your neck. " You don't go out without one. That's my rule."
Steve slipped his hand against you to push the weapon inside your free palm. He started to slowly kiss your throat, biting the skin under your ear. His hands on your arm drifting around your waist. You deeply sighed, relieved, before pushing your face against his chest. Closing your eyes, you inhaled deeply his perfume. It smells like home.
" How much? " You quietly inquired your hand gripping the cold weapon.
" One million. " The blond-man replied stepping away from you. He turned around, sliding his fingers through yours before pulling you to walk behind him. " That's all that shit's worth. " He mentioned the several firearms on the table walking toward the back of the room. Â
" Thatâs more than usual. " You remarked watching warily the weapons on the table.
" I have the good guys behind my ass. " He groaned stopping in front of the freezer. You stopped behind peering above his shoulder. " Speaking of good guys. " You heard the smile on his face as he pushed opened the big cooler. Â " Say hello to our little detective. "
Your quiet gasped was concealed by Steve's chuckling, his bright eyes on the man inside.
Blood was dripping from his nose, dark bruises on his cheek, and his left eye was almost completely shut. He was laying awkwardly, his clothes covered with dirt and dark stains of blood everywhere, his knees against his chest, his broken fingers were shaking while a small painful moan escaped his blue lips. Detective Sousa was imploring, his good eye only on you. Â
Speechless, you watched  the man agonizing inside the freezer, his lips were trembling harder as he tried to form a sentence. An apology.Â
Steve stepped away, stealing a hard kiss from you. Confused, you let him kissed you deeply, his mouth soft on you. Before you could push him away, he put his body behind yours taking the weapon you were gripping from your hand. One arm around your waist the other raised in front of you, your boyfriend pressed another kiss on your neck before dropping his finger on the trigger. Detective Sousa's good eye grew bigger, tears filled his eyes, while he started to whimper loudly.
" Let me show you how useful a gun can be. " Your boyfriend murmured against your ear before pulling the trigger.

Well, I waited until the last possible second, but here it finally is: my liveblog of MBS episode 2, Catching a Bird!
Spoiler warning for both current and future episodes of the show, as I will be referencing plot points from the books!

oooh, foreshadowing-
âThe missing arenât missing, theyâre only departed.
Poison apples, friendly visage.
Pardon, possession, a walk on the shore, poison worms.
Brush your teeth and kill the germs-â
Constance!!!! poor baby :( :( :(
not true, i am extremely suspicious of children. why do you need so many bones, huh? where did all those extra bones go?? what unholy things do you need TWO SETS OF TEETH FOR???
and thatâs another tally mark on the foreshadowing counter
âŚ
No I donât have anything to say, thatâs just a really good line.
I still prefer âLearning Institute for the Very Enlightenedâ because I think it flows a bit better, but changing it isnât really a big deal.
THAT HOWEVER IS A BIG DEAL
âHarbor Islandâ? Not âNomansan Islandâ??? HOW COULD YOU GET RID OF THE PUN, DISNEY? HOW DARE YOU

living in a library
kate,,,,
I will say this- I do wish they had Constance ask that question, like in the books, because her apology afterward was a huge moment for her early characterization. That said, it does seem like theyâre taking her character arc more slowly than the book did, so maybe weâll get some moments like this with her later on.
OKAY REYNIE
MAKE ME CRY
THATâS FINE
hhhhhhhhh found family đ
The DRAMA
ALRIGHT MILLIGAN GO OFF

10/10 truly a masterpiece of modern literature
Constance is adept in the art of non-passive aggression- active aggression, if you will.

jsheuehevehegewguwhwbdija
âThe Mysterious Benedict Society,â Constance said, rising as she spoke. Then she left the room, apparently convinced that no more discussion was necessary.
And, as it turned out, she was right.â
also, roll credits!
okay,,,,,
the institute is a LOT bigger than I pictured as a kid WOW
Hm, these two are a lot more eerie than threatening in this version. In fact, that seems to be a theme with the Institute. I guess theyâre trying to be subtle- although their initials backwards are still EVIL, so...
*insert gif of mabel with an axe*
RHONDA MR BENEDICT I LOVE YOU BOTH
what a very.... yellow room. number two would approve
personally i couldnât sleep in a bed thatâs in the middle of the room what were they thinking

also

Martina Crowe!!!
And hello... character that is not from the books. You seem cool!
side note: kate in a tie
Ah, so thatâs what that scene from the trailer was about!
also look at reynie being smart <3
ahem
F O U N D
F A M I L Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Â
â¤ď¸ â¤ď¸ â¤ď¸ â¤ď¸ â¤ď¸ â¤ď¸ â¤ď¸ â¤ď¸ â¤ď¸ â¤ď¸ â¤ď¸ â¤ď¸ â¤ď¸ â¤ď¸ â¤ď¸
I love that theyâre really emphasizing the bookâs message that there isnât just one kind of intelligence! Kate may not have a photographic memory, genius puzzle solving skills, or a knack for composing insulting poetry, but that doesnât make her any less smart than the others!
OH
DUN DUN DUUUUUN
So yeah, no wheelchair or sunglasses- or pun name >:(
Yeah, thatâs a bit disappointing, but I wonât assume that theyâve âruined his characterâ based on a few seconds of screentime. Plus, if theyâre trying to avoid harmful stereotypes, good on them.Â
And he goes by Dr Curtain! I did wonder why he went by Mr in the book, he certainly seems the type to flaunt his credentials.
Okay! So that was Carrying a Bird. I give this episode an 8/10. Not as strong as the pilot, but to be fair, this was mostly a transition episode. Now that theyâre actually at the Institute, the plot can really get going!
