forgot to give florida his newest scar on the last post so have him and reese chatting during their time in the big ceda hospital/holding facility after being cured 🫶

during florida’s time being infected he got into plenty of fights with other infected because of the fact he was completely blind (animal mentality of killing the weakest for others to be able to make it. even though florida post and pre infection is not weak by any means. just clumsy and very overstimulated 😭) and because he was a pretty loose cannon due to his other senses being crazy amplified which leads him to be constantly overstimulated and extremely territorial and confrontational to other infected

two of his fights are with reese and both end Bad for him 👎 first one florida’s almost gutted and has to be sewn up by jasmine (former nurse now survivor who is reluctantly traveling with alton (another survivor) who is the guy who found and followed around by florida). you can imagine how that played out. the second fight reese nearly rips out florida’s throat but ends up leaving him be <-asserting dominance. freak behavior.

florida doesn’t remember a lot of it because. well. he couldn’t really see during any of the fights he got into. but i think during the first few weeks of being cured while in the big ceda hospital/holding facility since his infection was worse than others it took him awhile to fully settle in so to speak. like even though he was very much human again i think the common room incident mentioned above was florida being able to smell reese in the same room and him getting set off set off whatever extremely small amount of non viable infection was left in reese and so they got in a fight.

^ended in them both being tased and separated by security staff

I had such a weird experience a few days ago at the mall.

I took public transit there and once we got there, I went to the spot where I normally take him to the bathroom. There was a Guide Dogs for the Blind van parked right next to where I normally take him to the bathroom. It looked like they were about to start unloading some dogs, but then they saw me and immediately packed up and hopped in the van and drove away, staring at me the entire time. All he was doing was looking for a spot to shit.  but whatever I can shrug that off they probably just don’t want any dogs near their dogs.

But then, when I actually got into the mall, Finn was doing some FMP and one of their guide dogs walked past me. Finn did fine, literally he did nothing wrong. We found a spot to sit down, and they were staring at me and whispering about me…grown ADI org guide dog trainers were judging a disabled 17-year-old’s legitimate owner trained service dog.

This made me feel like shit. I just wanted to absorb into the wall and not be seen.

the issue with AI chatbots is that they should NEVER be your first choice if you are building something to handle easily automated forms.... consider an algorithmic "choose your own adventure" style chatbot first

it really seems to me that the air canada chatbot was intended to be smth that could automatically handle customer service issues but honestly... if you do not need any sort of "human touch" then i would recommend a "fancier google form"... like a more advanced flowchart of issues. If you NEED AI to be part of your chatbot I would incorporate it as part of the input parsing - you should not be using it to generate new information!

#literally everyone sees AI and gets so hard they black out and it ANNOYS me! #prediction/recognition AI is fine i guess it's not without flaws but it is leagues better than generative AI #but also - use the right tool for the job #like the article said it was using ai chatbot to handle customer service. Is it so hard to create a series of pre-made questions to guide #-a customer through the process? (this is called a wizard i think) #(most importantly wizards have been around for pretty much as long as GUIs have) #'oh but you need to hardcode it' yeah and hardcoding stuff came free with having a job. Turn your questions into a series of markdown #-documents if you need someone with no tech skill to come in and put in the questions #don't outsource it to an AI. You are lowering the overall tech literacy of the population here and im not kidding #there are good uses of AI.. Woebot is a really good chatbot that uses AI precisely because it has a lot of human oversight in it #but i really think that AI is something that you better have a PERFECT - not just good - justification for #sorry.... angry tech guy rant.... i swear i dont do this in real life... i just like typing...

slowly returning to the big miravi fic i was working on and trying to recall everything that i was going to have each individual chapter be, though i might also discard the chapter names i had going as a theme (or to add them back later, after its finished) since i dont know exactly how many chapters this will be

also im thinking about adding another merfolk in the beginning scene, both because it helps set the scene as something weird going on (since miranda's serfs are notably not merfolk and aaravi has only seen other merfolk than miri and bell inside of the actual merkingdom), and because im REALLY thinking about how i write the help lately and all of miri's serfs and staff and servants and fleshing them out. its been a huge pain in my side how every single fucking thing lately refuses to include the help and to write them out, including trying to include rich, powerful characters who dont need staff or help to run their estates or do anything, in a way that notably does not exist in reality and only serves to further mentally and psychologically separate out the classes.

which is both good and bad because, oh boy, i get to design more merfolk characters! but also, OH NO, I HAVE TO DESIGN MORE MERFOLK CHARACTERS.

jason todd, stephanie brown and duke thomas are absolutely the best robins for gotham; they have the knowledge and perspective on how to best serve their gotham because they actually grew up in the city. they have lived experiences with addiction, poverty, homelessness, foster care etc. that the others don’t have and there’s a lot they can bring to the table in terms of how to best help the most vulnerable populations of gotham.

heyy so im writing a character that's blind and she uses a white cane, and during one of her missions (she's part of a spy ring) she's gonna get hurted and is gonna need to use a cane (a walking stick) permanently. so how would she act in this situation where she basically needs to different types of cane to keep her mobility? or do you have any other sugestion about what to do in this situation?

Hi! Thanks for asking.

In this situation, she would likely need to have two canes; both a white cane and a walking stick, used in different hands. The two canes are so different that one came can’t really serve both functions, so she’d need to have one of each. This would of course leave her without a free hand most of the time, so she may want to prioritize using backpacks more than other kinds of bags that would require a free hand. It may be useful to research the experiences of double crutch users to get more ideas for how she would manage things with no free hands.

Depending on exactly what her physical support needs are, she might instead use a guide dog that has also been trained for mobility assistance or counterbalancing. Most guide dog schools can provide some cross training on tasks for additional disabilities, though you will want to research mobility assistance dogs to see if the kinds of tasks a dog can do would be useful for her particular disability. If her particular needs will be met by mobility tasks, then it’s entirely possible to have a guide dog that is also trained in those additional tasks.

Using a guide dog that is cross trained for mobility support would solve the no free hands problem since it only requires one hand, but a guide dog is definitely a very different travel style from a white cane, so you will want to really think about if she as a person would want to switch to a guide dog travel style. It’s a very personal and individual choice, and one is not inherently better than the other, so the switch shouldn’t be made casually. It’s entirely possible that she would be interested in switching to a guide dog lifestyle, but it’s also entirely possible that she would much prefer to use her white cane along with another mobility aid, instead.

One other option could be to use a white cane with a wheelchair depending on the nature of her injury. It sounds like something like a walking stick or mobility assistance dog would be better based on your ask, but if there is more information that might make a wheelchair relevant, that can also be an option. It can be somewhat harder to use a white cane with a manual wheelchair, so many people prefer to use a power chair with a white cane, but a manual chair can absolutely be done if a manual chair would suit her lifestyle better.

If there are any blind and multiply disabled people or physically disabled people (especially those who use mobility assistance service dogs) who would like to chime in in the notes, please do!
