If you conceal carry a gun, but you don’t carry a first aid kit, you don’t care about saving anyone, you just want to shoot someone.
And you’re stupid.
This is something I said before, and I always get a chuckle out of the one moron who came into my comments with “If I shoot him, I’m sure as hell ain’t gonna go try to patch him up.” because in his hero power fantasy, I guess he saw the guy with the gun and shot him before any single other person got shot. Which is a nice fantasy, and sure it’s possible, but it’s idiotic to think that it’s always gonna be that neat and clean.
I don’t think you’re gonna be patching him up, I’m assuming you killed him. I think the 12 year old down the road who got hit in the arm could use some patching. I think the grandma with a hole through her leg could use some patching. I think the gunshot wound you sustained before you managed to get a shot off could use some patching.
A tiny first aid kit with a tourniquet and some gauze is small enough to keep into your pocket. Given the prevalence of car accidents, other types of assaults, and other disasters/accidents, you’re far more likely to encounter someone you could save with a first aid kit and some skills than someone you could save with a gun.
If you’re hot under the collar, I’m cutting off last time’s “Wah wah wah, but what about my first amm--” Let’s work on your reading skills. Conceal carry. Sure. Do it. I teach active shooter survival classes. Half the people I know conceal carry, I ain't against it. Great. Go get ‘em, tiger.
But if you’re out here with a gun and no first aid skills, you’re just a fucking idiot playing pretend at being cool.

“I believe America should adopt common sense gun controls. This includes requiring every gun owner to attend a mandatory gun safety class.” What other constitutional rights would you like to see additional regulations on or need a permit/license for?
What other constitutional rights could lead to people dying unnecessarily?

The pattern of addressing issues in the US are all the same. Criminalize and legally restrict access to something associated with obvious problems, that everyone agrees on as issues. However the focus of decreasing those issues are on what seems common sense to see as the root cause. Like guns, or substances.
But criminalizing shit only creates a need for underground pathways to access shit, and usually the most harmful to use restricted shit are people of privilege who may not have it easier to get access to something, but is less likely to be hindered by the 🐖 in their pursuit or possession of contraband.
If you wanna alleviate social issues related to things like gun or substance use, or violence in general, you have to change the cause of it and the cause of the intensity which increases over time.
But making it illegal sure as shit don't work.

I’ve been floating around on this app for about seven years. For some people that won’t seem like a long time. And for others it might seem like I’ve been here for a while. I’ve had lots of blogs and deleted lots of blogs. I’ve run into some cool people who like the same things as me. I scroll through the same 20 recycled memes that have been reused for the past four years and I always laugh. Throughout my time on this app, I’ve noticed a pattern where people share stories and the rest of us listen. No one I’ve met online knows about my real life. But something happened the other day. The school I work at received a shooting threat. I live in Canada, and I’ve never had to seriously consider the possibility of a school shooter. Up until recently, the idea of that display of violence occurring in my community felt so dislocated from me. But yesterday, I went to work, and we waited to see if the threat was real or not. There was a date on the note that was found. But I can’t help but wonder if they decided to take a rain check for when less people skip. I’m not sure what the point of me writing this is. There wasn’t a shooting at my school yesterday. But there was probably one somewhere else. Anyway carry on. Please no thoughts or prayers anymore. Kids are afraid of dying in school.

Would someone please tell me in which other country in the world aside from the United States does this sort of thing happen?
Outside of nations that are currently in a war zone, I think the answer is clearly NONE.
I refuse to believe that this is the price we have to pay for the Second Amendment.
If that is the case, then it is long past time to repeal and replace it with a different amendment that would enable the federal, state and local governments to set reasonable restrictions and regulations around firearms ownership, storage and use.
If the gun lobby continues to be utterly intransigent to any form of gun regulation, then they stand the real chance of losing the right to own a gun altogether in the future. Younger Americans who grew up in the age of mass shootings in schools and in public places are going to be less sympathetic to those who cry foul when anyone tries to place reasonable restrictions on them.
Do we all have to walk around full-time in bulletproof armor now? Do I need to suit up just to go to the grocery store?
We keep saying that it is time to do something, but the time to do something was a long time ago and we didn't do it then and we're not doing it now. This has to end.

AR-15 Weapons and the Second Amendment
AR-15 Weapons and the Second Amendment
Welcome to From Insults to Respect. Today, we take up a country-wide emotionally charged conflict between those who believe the Second Amendment allows for what they refer to as some “reasonable restrictions” of arms such as banning AR-15 weapons, and those who believe the amendment provides an inalienable right to own arms with absolutely “no restrictions.” Here’s what the Second Amendment…

Guns are a bit of a hot button issue, especially after gun related incidents. I wholeheartedly believe that politicians use these incidents and their exaggerated outrage as self-marketing to boost their approval ratings and help them get elected again. I have very little faith that politicians actually care about the people.
I believe America should adopt common sense gun controls. This includes requiring every gun owner to attend a mandatory gun safety class.
Any one who hunts already has to take hunters safety, but that's only folks who want a hunting license. There are plenty of people who buy guns for defensive purposes or just because they Like Guns. I live in rural Wyoming, which is like, 90 percent of Wyoming. In my county of nearly 47,000 people, there has been 57 self induced gun injuries in the last year. Some due to a slip up, most due to ignorance.
I don't shoot, I don't find it fun, but my dad taught me how as a kid in case it was something I wanted/had to do. It was the most terrifying experience of my life. Dad drilled into me gun safety by screaming at me when I did something wrong. He was scared I was going to hurt myself and wanted to make sure I would never do it again. It sucked, but it was effective, and I'm glad he did it. The basic gun safety I learned was:
Don't point your gun at something your aren't prepared to shoot, loaded or not.
NEVER WALK IN FRONT OF SOMEONE WITH A GUN EVEN IF THEY ARENT AIMING.
Treat every gun as if it's loaded, even if you know it isn't.
Treat every gun as if the safety if off, even if you know it's on.
Do not look down the barrel of your own gun. See point 1.
If you think you may have something in the barrel, use a cleaning brush to remove it. If you fire your gun when something it stuck in the barrel, it may stop the bullet and explode in your hand.
Clean your gun regularly. Dad's rule of thumb is to clean it after 5 uses. Not bullets, but after the fifth time you go shooting, clean your gun. This doesn't only extend the life of your gun, but also let's you see if anything is wrong with it, or if parts need replaced.
Practice taking apart and putting back together your gun before you use it. This helps prevent incidents due to incorrect placement of parts.
Put your target on something solid that a bullet won't go through. This ensures that you don't accidentally shoot someone from a distance, or as we where more worried about, someones horse. Dad used his back hoe to dig into a hill on our property to use as a shooting range.
If you are planning to use your gun to hunt, practice with it at a shooting range first, so you know what to expect, especially with the recoil. Many of the injuries this past year were dislocated shoulders from recoil.
Just straight up don't take your gun out of the safe if small children are around. Kids don't know shit and they're curious.
Wait until your child is around 10-11 to teach them how to shoot, and be very serious about it. Stress the importance of gun safety and ensure that they know that while you may be shooting because you enjoy it, guns are dangerous and could hurt or kill people. They are not toys.
This is not an exhaustive list of rules, but the most important one that I have been taught. Whether for fun, defense, or sport, follow gun safety rules to reduce the risk of injuring yourself or others.

Getting real sick of a certain subset of Destiny players complaining that it’s a baby game and crying to Bungie to nerf exotics and abilities when their ENTIRE POINT IS TO BE STRONG in specific ways as if they are being locked into using them.
IF YOU WANT AN EXTRA CHALLENGE STOP BEING SUCH A DPS GOBLIN AND JUST EQUIP SOMETHING THATS NOT TOP TIER META AND STOP COMPLAINING JESUS FUCKING CHRIST
MOOD. Go off.
It's incredibly annoying to me. They always use the argument of "the game should FORCE me to do things, I should not SELF-IMPOSE challenges." And like. ? I'm sorry but what? It's a video game for a big audience, it's here to be playable and accessible to the widest possible playerbase. There are plenty of ways to make the game difficult for yourself, so knock yourself out if that's your thing, but don't force others into it.
Like, I enjoy hard content, I regularly at least attempt day 1 raids, I do master raids, GMs, solo and solo flawless content and all that. But only when I want to. Sometimes I don't and I don't want to suffer in a patrol zone or struggle in a seasonal activity I'm doing for the story. The majority of the players don't want that. Designing games for the professional gamers only has NEVER been a good idea and never will be. Fifty streamers can't sustain a video game. It needs casual players who will want to come back to the game instead of feeling defeated.
One of the reasons I really enjoy helping others is because I know that casual players tend to struggle in stuff that's basic activity for me. I've seen people unable to get through a strike. I've sat for 10 minutes rezing someone who couldn't do the jump in a seasonal activity. I want those people to be able to play basic content without feeling frustrated and I want them to know that there are people out there who will help them out.
And this doesn't apply just to basic content, although it should start with that. I think all dungeons and raids and everything should be things that all players can complete. Fine, doing a master raid with all challenges should be tough, but it should be achievable with time and practice, not impossible. What a lot of these "pros" want is just completely divorced from reality.
It takes days and days of practice every time a new master raid is out for me and my team (all with thousands of hours of playtime) to get comfortable to finally finish it. We're far from casual players and it still takes a lot of time to be able to finish hard content. Making it even harder is insane to me. Like, if something is so hard that my team full of people, each with 5000+ hours of playtime and a coordinated team that's been raiding together for years now can't finish it, that means it's absolutely impossible for probably 90% of the playerbase. That's wild to me. Raids and GMs should have more people playing them. If master raids are too easy for you, Mr. I-Play-Destiny-For-A-Living, that's on you buddy. Unequip the super god tier god roll meta guns and loadouts or play something else.
And ofc, another excuse they make is "if I don't use meta, I am not going to win a raid race!" Then don't. Idk. Let me play you the tiniest violin. This affects literally nobody except a grand total of 50 people. Run your meta in day 1, and play with random shit otherwise. Play raids with all white weapons. Play without mods. Play without a HUD. Do things solo only. I don't know, make up a way to spice things up for yourself. I'm not interested in that and neither are 99% of the players out there. The game is genuinely hard enough for the majority of the players. On top of that, I am here to feel like a powerful space fantasy superhero. I am NOT here to die to dregs in patrol zones. If there's ONE thing that I know for a fact that put people off from Lightfall (as in this year of Destiny), it's the difficulty changes. They're annoying, frustrating and for some a barrier to entry more than anything else.
#destiny 2#gameplay#ask#long post#i really do love helping but i can't not feel bad because once the people i helped are out of my fireteam...#...there's no telling what other experiences they'll have#there's so many speedrunners and people who don't care and people who just aren't helping and are instead mocking others#you can only do so much for a few people you see in activities#this season's activities are super tough. every time so far I've played everyone in the team was struggling#i'm gonna have to start going into altars of summoning with my full support build warlock just to sit in there and help people#istg the 'pros' have to get their loadouts restricted. go play with non-god tier armour sets and guns#equip the same loadout that some casual player has available and let me see you then#this idea that everyone has minmaxed best equipment available at all times is bizarre. please get your head out of your ass#'i have perfectly rolled all artifice armour with perfect stat exotics for every loadout because i have infinite time to grind' okay dude#most of us aren't being paid to play destiny. lmao#'the game used to be hard' no. you got better. you mastered it#why is this so difficult to understand. everything is hard when you first start. 5000 hours later it no longer is#the game is fine. the 'health of the game' is fine. you mastered it and outgrew it#either impose challenges on yourself or find something else#like. when i first started GMs they were almost impossible for me#now i play them for fun. they're still challenging but they're not the same level of hard and I'm fine with that#i enjoy them as content and they're still entertaining#and when a new GM comes out it's a new challenge to master so it'll be hard at the start#as everything ever in the world#if that's no longer enough for you then you just outgrew the game and should probably move on#the only reason why some things used to be hard was poor quality of life that got improved over time#not being able to mantle in d1 is not difficulty. it's just not good design. it was fixed and improved#the bitching about light 3.0 as well. man. just don't use the 'OP' fragments. it's so easy to unequip them#i personally love the variety and all the options i have now as opposed to before#okay tag essay done. fhkajhakfhksjf

In these dark times, I just wanna say: TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS! STOP BANNING BOOKS! STOP POLICE BRUTALITY! STOP THE WILLOW PROJECT! DONT OVERTURN ICWA! GUN CONTROL IS A MUST! MY BODY MY CHOICE! BLACK LIVES MATTER! The state of the U.S (probably the whole world, too) is so shitty right now, and honestly I am genuinely scared for our futures. The core of the U.S is being rewritten and destroyed. It is no longer free, and it hasn’t been for a while.

🌀 and ☔️ back at you!
🌀Post the fic summary for a fic you haven't written/published yet. It can be hypothetical or something you really plan on releasing
I have decided to cheat! Here is a snippet from a fic that's so far away from being written it'll likely never see the sun, but it lives in my head.
From the Roy-Jamie-Keeley qpr where Keeley is poly and Jamie is aromantic and Roy has a lot of things bookmarked on his laptop:
Roy repeated, "The bar. It's on the floor." Jamie looked more confused. He shook his head, almost frantic with it now as the metaphors kept rolling out. "Look, I know it's a lot, but I was hoping maybe we could start there. Maybe. It's fine if we can't, I can move it if it's a problem. But just -- don't kick the bar. A lot of people kick it on accident, and some of them kick it on purpose because they don't think its fair that it should be there at all. So. Yeah. Don't. Don't do that." Help him if he ever met whichever teacher had taught Jamie metaphors in school. Roy said, "I love this bar." "What?" "Yeah. I love this bar. This is my favorite bar. I think it looks perfect where it is. In fact, I think we should redecorate the whole room around the bar. For feng shui and shit, so everything flows right. And we should make sure it has space, so if the bar ever wants to move -- wants to go higher or lower or just wants to sit out on the patio for a bit -- it can do that without ever being worried that someone is going to kick the fucking bar."
☔Is there a fic concept you have that you'd like to just explain and share because you're not sure you'll ever write it? If so, what is it?
And here's a snippet from the Ted Lasso Leverage AU that I'm definitely not writing anytime soon (trigger warning for threats of gun violence, descriptions of regular violence, James Tartt Sr, etc, all below the cut for safe keeping):
"Or what, Junior?" he asked derisively, prodding Jamie's head with the gun. Roy's heart kicked in his chest. James still had the the finger on the trigger. He did it again, knocking the loaded barrel against Jamie's head as if he were using his hand to push him around. Everybody had a limit. Roy's was approaching with a speed that tunneled his sight down to the vision of breaking every bone in that hand. One by one. If he grit his teeth any harder, they were going to pop out of his skull. "Quit waving that thing around," he growled. Behind his back, the razor sawed away at the ropes, slipping in his grasp. Probably nicked himself. He couldn't feel it. James Tartt reeled back from his son with a mocking grin. Partially obscured behind the clot of his father, Jamie slumped against his ropes. "Oh, what, you mean like this? Huh?" He tapped the gun against Jamie's head, laughing dryly when Jamie flinched back. The gun went tap-tap-tap, each strike chipping the color out of Jamie's cheeks until he sat there, his expression gone flat and lifeless with bland disinterest as the the gunsight caught in his hair. Forget bones, Roy was going to kill him. Then he was going to pry each bone out of his lifeless hand and shove them down his throat.
