What were some Pokemon puzzles you had trouble with as a kid? I remember getting stuck on Wallace's puzzle for an embarrassingly long time as a kid. (Like actual months. They made it so much easier for Juan in Emerald.)
On a lesser note, getting thru this Gym isn't overly hard, there have been times I have had trouble getting out of here, to the point of needing to look up a YouTube walkthru (I forget whether I accidentally stepped on a switch or if it had just been a long time since I had played Platinum):

Wallace: Hi, sorry I'm late! I was doing some chores and got distracted.
Steven: I'm "some chores".
Winona: And I'm "got distracted".

Skyvember prompt 9: Winona
Winona has to be one of my favorite gym leaders ever, especially because I love the flying type and its vibe. Thank you to Mewintheflesh-2 for this challenge.

I’ve. Had a realization
On the pokespe wiki it says that the reason for Winona and Wallace breaking up was because “she found the idea of a man much stronger than her being constantly around to be smothering” and while they don’t give direct sources and I can’t remember reading that. It brings up some VERYYY interesting parallels with stevens perception of Wallace in the manga too.
The “were equals I’ve never been better than you” and “it’s so like you to say that” IMPLIES THAT STEVEN DOES NOT BELIEVE THEY ARE EQUALS. ON A FUNDAMENTAL LEVEL. Steven and Winona actively buy into the media conception of Wallace as an idolized figure more than he actually is as a person
[ID: a screenshot of the pokespe manga where Wallace says “we’re equals. I’ve never been better than you.” And Steven replies “it’s so like you to say that” with a smile on his face. End ID]
Wallace continually offers them help and they continually assume that it’s because of pity because he is so much stronger than them
But that isn’t true. Wallace just wants to help his friends because he knows they constantly try to do everything themselves.
I just. OUGHHHH…. Me when Wallace proves over and over that he is a flawed human being but the media perception of him feels so real that even his closest friends take that over his actual words and actions.
This isn’t dunking on Steven and Winona I think it’s just genuinely very interesting and shows how powerful media perception of a person can be
