So, in my FFXIV journey, I'm nearing the end of the main Stormblood story and that involves diving into the Lochs of Gyr Abania. When I first saw them, I thought they were more or less just salt flats.
But then I had to dive in for the MSQ and... There's a whole castle, possibly castle-town under the water. I just dove down again for a sidequest, and found a broken statue of Rhalgr, the main deity of Ala Mhigo, and my first thought was "the archaeological implications of this place is amazing."
I kinda hope there is a side quest that has something to do with exploring these salt-encrusted castle(-town) ruins.

What is the worst thing you have put your OC through story-wise?
Hm. Other people have put her through some shit - but me, personally... that's a good one. The only thing I can think I've done to put her through the wringer that wasn't brought on by someone else ICly, or someone leaving the game OOC, is her backstory! Everything else since has happened organically, and has hurt almost worse by virtue of being people she actually cared about who hurt her - but I mean, I gave her a backstory where she was a (reluctant) teenage guerilla fighter during the Garlean occupation of Ala Mhigo who ended up in a concentration camp! I don't go into the specifics of what she went through there, because we were all taught what goes on in that kind of place, at some time or another... and I don't think it gets a whole lot worse than that!

Roevember 2022 #21: Loss
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Many years ago, the Wall went up, locking them away from family and friends who had lived, and remained, in the Fringes.
Some had managed to make their way across over time, but not many, and often with grim tidings--if they had any word at all.
Their daughter and her friends joined the realm's champions to free Gyr Abania, the Wall a remaining symbol of the separation.
A symbol of the devastation of their relatives and friends in Bittermill and the East End, just on the other side of all that steel and cermet.

Beyond Baelsar's Wall
With Doma's and Gyr Abania's liberation the Empire received its first real setback ever since the disastrous invasion campaign of Eorzea that resulted in the Seventh Umbral Calamity. For the first time in decades, hope seemed more than a fool's consolation.
As if unable to really grasp the reality of the situation Delen, refugee from Werlyt, felt like she had to see the arid lands of Gyr Abania freed from the Empire's grasp with her own eyes. The front of the rebellion keeps pushing forward, toward Ghimlyt. With any luck, Werlyt would soon have freedom again.
