Which do you prefer, the Shinkansen or the Acela?
They can't really be compared, because they're...well, not comparable services.
The Acela is the closest thing we have to true high-speed rail in the United States, currently being able to reach 150 mph in some places, but it's nowhere on the scale of the Shinkansen or other true high-speed rail systems because it has to run on regular tracks in certain places, forcing it to reduce its speed. It's not comparable to other high-speed rail systems at the moment, although in the future it's planned to be able to reach 165 mph, and later 186 mph. The problem is that it doesn't get to run on its own designated rails the entire time; if it could do this, it wouldn't have to slow down. The Acela can hit 150 mph at present, but it only is allowed to do this for 33.9 miles of the 457 mile route it follows between Boston and Washington, D.C. Most of that is between Penn Station (NYC) and Union Station (D.C.), the part of the Northeast Corridor once operated by the Pennsylvania Railroad. The Acela is nonetheless the fastest train in the Americas. We can and should do better.
You can read more about high-speed rail initiatives in the US here. There's one on the way in California that looks verrrry promising, but it still won't be operable for at least a decade. I hope that someday the US is able to implement proper high-speed rail.
As for the Shinkansen, I've wanted to ride it since my childhood. I was captivated by the idea that humanity could actually implement such a rail system, and as I got older I learned that we had in fact done as such in other places, as well, and I was being denied this by being American.
My favorite Shinkansen model is the E5/H5; it's beautiful, and it's the fastest one out there right now to boot. The E5 and H5 can reach 198 mph, and they do it in style. I actually just learned that some modified E5s are going to be running in India on India's first high-speed rail line, which is really exciting! The best-known train they operate is the Hayabusa, between Tokyo and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto in Hokkaido, making the journey in under four hours. It's planned to be extended to Sapporo by 2031.
Tumblr media
There's such an elegance to the E5 trainsets, and I love that they're green, to boot.
The H5 looks cosmetically the same, but the stripe is purple instead of pink, in order to evoke flowers Hokkaido is known for - lilacs, lupins, and lavender.
Tumblr media
As you may know, I love streamliners. Streamlined trainsets have captivated me for as long as I can remember, going back to my love of the GG1 as a child - obviously, they reduce air resistance and therefore increase speed, but they also look incredible. People deserve to travel efficiently and accessibly, but in style - that was the entire point of the original Penn Station in NYC, after all: it allowed regular people a sense of grandeur and importance as they came up into the main concourse from their trains. A lot of high-speed trainsets have the same feel as streamliners from the 1930s - they're sleek and efficient.
tl;dr Comparing the Acela to the Shinkansen is currently apples and oranges, because the former doesn't meet a lot of high-speed rail standards in the rest of the world. But someday, perhaps it'll be different...

Dear Vector Prime, have you met Hatsune Miku?
Dear Vocaloid Visionary,
I'm afraid I have not, but I have seen her presence across the universe.
In one reality, she was a human-created artificial intelligence who joined forces with Ai-chan when Fire Convoy's team was inadvertantly knocked offline by Gelshark—fortunately, Miku was able to enter cyberspace and reboot the Cybertrons' systems in time to send the Destrons fleeing. In another, the young Ms Hatsune was a human herself, who participated in a version of the Masterforce conflict alongside Shinichi Mishima; at the end of the battle, she witnessed her Transtector be reborn as a living Cybertronian, the heroic Futuresong. (Indeed, Futuresong bore a great resemblance to Hayabusa, a Shinkalion mecha piloted by the Miku of yet another universe!)
Of course, you might know her best as a talented creator of universes. Given one of the inhabitants of the Legends World's resemblance to her, it would not surprise me if the Zamojins sought her out for her expertise in this area.

Galaxy Express 999's Maetel Gets Her Full Shinkalion Makeover
Tumblr media
Earlier this month, transforming mecha series Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion announced that it would be collaborating with Galaxy Express 999, the classic series by Leiji Matsumoto. One part of that collaboration would consist of a new, permanent cast member — and we've got a little more intel on the show's latest arrival.
As previously announced, fifth-grader Maetel Tsukino would be joining the team from their new Hokkaido base. Based on the mysterious Maetel of Galaxy Express 999 and other works in the Matsumoto-verse, she made her entrance at the end of a recent episode, referred to only as the "Mysterious Girl."
Tumblr media
We now have a little more information about the character. This grade-school take on Maetel is from Oshamambe, a town in Hokkaido. She's a shy girl who has difficulty talking to people, and spends her days listening to various frequencies via her amateur radio base at home.
Maetel will pilot the Shinkalion Z H5 Hokuto, a new transforming train mecha built for combat in cold weather. The new mecha is a combination of the Shinkalion Z H5 Hayabusa and Zyliner 261 Hokuto. A transforming toy of the new 'bot is scheduled for sale on December 29, and will be the first mecha toy in the Shinkalion line to have clear parts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maetel will be voiced, as previously announced, by Satsuki Yukino, who took over the role of Maetel from Masako Ikeda.
Maetel Tsukino is the most recent collab character to become a permament part of the series, preceded by Actual (former) Vocaloid Hatsune Miku.

Top 10 Fastest Trains in the World 2019 - Photos
Tumblr media
It's true that trains can't fly over oceans like airplanes. But that doesn't mean trains can't run as fast as planes. Fortunately, some trains in this modern world are as fast as planes. Will there be any in Naija or Africa? A nation needs to have alternative way of transportation apart from road, as it is incorrect in Africa. In the current world, people, goods and services must be moved as fast as possible. That's why Ooduarere compiled a set of the fastest trains in 2019.

Hey! I saw your post about nicknaming the Submas Pokémon and recently I’ve been playing through X with Emmet’s team and I’ve named them after Japanese passenger trains!
Um. Please keep in mind I know nothing about trains though... But I’ve been using the Wikipedia page and picking names with meanings that seem to fit the Pokémon I’m catching! Or that just sound pretty, haha.
You're a trainer after my heart, anon!
My personal favorite Japanese passenger train is the Hayabusa, pulled by the E5 and H5 Shinkansen models, because...well, they're gorgeous.
Tumblr media
This is the E5, operated by JR East...
Tumblr media
...and this is the H5, operated by JR Hokkaido. The H5 is the cold weather variant of the E5.
To my knowledge, the Hayabusa is actually the fastest passenger train in regular service right now in Japan until the MagLev opens in several years, running at nearly 200 mph in some places. ("Hayabusa" literally means "peregrine falcon," so the name matches the speed.) I actually have a couple of E5 models in my apartment because I love the damn thing so much. I’m a noted speed freak and these things can just whip.
There is one more thing I noticed regarding the E5 and H5, though, and it actually comes up in Pokemon Masters EX. Here’s my initial post about it from last year, but the tl;dr is that the specific green they used on the E5 and H5 is the same green they used for Emmet’s EX - and as a bonus, the red they used for Ingo’s looks like the E6 Series Shinkansen’s red. I am verrrry suspicious about this.

Shinkalion Z Welcomes Galaxy Express 999 to Its Multiverse of Mecha
Tumblr media
Mecha anime Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion is all about Japan's cool bullet trains turning into giant robots... but its reputation in anime fandom comes from its increasingly wild crossovers. After the first film showed Godzilla fighting EVA-01 and capped it off with a Snow Miku concert, where is there left to go? A journey to the stars, obviously.
Episode 20 of Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z briefly revealed this "Mysterious Girl" looking out over the city as the 1977 classic "Tsugaru Kaikyō Fuyugeshiki" played.
Tumblr media
It didn't take long for fans to notice that this was (or at least appeared to be) Maetel, one of Leiji Matsumoto's most iconic characters and the star (alongside young traveler Tetsuro Hoshino) of Galaxy Express 999. Given the show's train-centric story, there had been speculation for some time that these two shows would eventually cross paths.
The official Shinkalion Twitter revealed today that not only is there a Galaxy Express 999 collaboration underway, the character will become a regular part of the cast:
Tumblr media
The collab character was officially introduced today as Maetel Tsukino, a fifth-grader from Hokkaido and the driver of the Shinkalion Z H5 Hayabusa. She'll be voiced by Satsuki Yukino, who took over the role of Maetel from her original voice actress, Masako Ikeda, in the 2000 OVA Maetel Legend.
And so far, that's all we know. Shinkalion's collab characters have been both alternate universe versions of familiar faces (like Miku) and actual multiverse visitors (like the cast of Evangelion). Which of these Maetel Tsukino will be, we'll have to wait and see.
So far, there's no indication of what the rest of the collaboration will entail, or when Maetel will return to the main anime — only that she will.
