There was a look shared by the other two, a brief sidelong affair made mostly of eyebrows and quirked lips, and then Emily was off to the races again, asserting, "I don't know, Jesse...I really seem to recall something about - oh, was it time displacement or time dilation? - either way, it was..."

Which, of course, was when Langston came around the corner, joining their group just long enough to offer them a perplexed, "Um, so, New Year's Eve, am I right?" before picking the party hat up and putting it on; all the while, Jesse said nothing but took a victorious sip of her extremely non-prototypical lightly-carbonated alcoholic drink, Polaris fluttering away in the very corner of her vision, shimmering like laughter.
