On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
When Allah decreed the Creation He pledged Himself by writing in His book which is laid down with Him: My mercy prevails over my wrath. It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari, an-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah).

The Call of the Dunya
This is from the best similitudes. A king built a home. Those who see did not see, and those who hear did not hear of a home better than this home, or more spacious than this home, or of a home containing more delights of the soul than this home. A path leading to this home was prepared, and a caller was sent out to call the people to it.
There was a beautiful woman sitting on the path. She was adorned with assorted types of adornments and she wore various types of jewelry. All the people had to pass by her. She had helpers and servants at her disposal. The woman and her helpers had provisions for those walking on the path toward the king.
The king said to the woman and her helpers, “Whoever lowers their gaze from you, does not allow you to distract them from me, and seeks provisions from you that will allow them to reach me, then serve him and give him provisions. Don’t hinder him from his travel to me; rather, assist him with everything that will allow him to complete his journey.
But whoever turns his eyes toward you, is pleased with you, prefers you over me, and desires to reach you, then impose upon him an evil punishment and humiliation. Make him chase behind you with a pursuit of loneliness. Whoever eats from you, then lead him astray with it for a while, then snatch all of it away from him. Take mastery over all those who follow and serve you. The more he increases his love for you, exalts and honors you, then reciprocate him with alienation, distance and belittlement until he is disconnected from you with misery.”
Thus, ponder this similitude and the condition of the call of the worldly life and the call of the Afterlife. And with Allah aid is sought.
This example is extracted from the narration narrated from Allah, the Exalted:
“O Dunya; serve whoever serves Me, and cause fatigue and trouble O Dunya to whoever serves you.”
- An extract taken from ‘The dunya and it’s reality’ by Ibn al-Qayyim

Response to a Sister Upset with Men’s Reward in Jannah
Sister, it seems to me (and to clarify: I am not a person of knowledge, just a layperson who is learning)—you have a fundamental flaw in your understanding of a few key concepts related to both life and the religion. I apologize if my candor is upsetting, it's not my intention, but I think we often tiptoe around these important topics and it doesn't benefit us to do so.
Some Questions to Think About
does it upset you that men do not have periods?
does it upset you that men do not give birth?
does it upset you that you're not able to urinate standing up?
does it upset you that men have to wear their pants above their ankles?
does it upset you that you can't grow a full beard?
does it upset you that men have to maintain their wives and families financially?
does it upset you that men are more analytic thinkers, generally speaking, and women more emotionally intelligent?
If the answer to the above is "No," then why does it upset you that most men desire multiple wives, while most women desire one man. In fact, just with the statement laid out like that, you can see the wisdom and perfection of Allah's decree—to the woman, what she desires (being married to a single man) and to the man what he desires (to be married to multiple women). This is like if you're at a party and everyone gets a single slice of cake. You share yours with someone but then are upset if anyone else also shares some with him.
Jannah
As for Paradise, then truly, our concern should only be with getting in.
That said, I've heard of women clutching their pearls over men having multiple wives in Jannah and it always feels so incredibly shortsighted.
Some Questions to Think About
are you upset that you have to work for a living in this world?
does it bother you that you have to seek out food and sustenance and then eat it intentionally?
are you upset that you have to seek out shelter and live in a house?
The you that was a fetus did not have any such worldly concerns, yet you were alive for a period of roughly 8 months in the belly of your mother, with all your concerns taken care of by The One Who Created You, and you were content because you hadn't yet learned ingratitude. The same Allah who decreed you would be in a safe place (as the womb is referred to in the Qur'an) for 9 months before your birth is the same Allah who has promised:
"I have prepared for My righteous slaves that which no eye has seen, no ear has heard and it has never crossed the mind of man. All of that is reserved, besides which all that you have known is as nothing."
—Sahih al-Bukhari 3072, Sahih Muslim 2824
And He has said in his Noble Qur'an:
"No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do"
—Qur'an (al-Sajdah) 32:17
So will you then put your meager, human mind and imagination up against that which Allah has created? Who knows better what you will be pleased with? You or Allah the Most High? Just think in this world, how many things you begged Him for which were terrible for you, which you didn't get and you came to know afterwards that you were saved from a wretched affair?
"and it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allâh knows but you do not know."
—Qur'an (al-Baqarah) 2:216
In addition to this, Jannah is full of only perfection. Everyone is young, tall, and beautiful. I have heard students of knowledge mention that the wives of men in Jannah will be even more beautiful than the hooris, and a man will leave his house in the morning, and when he returns, he will say to his wife, "By Allah, when I left I thought you were so beautiful but now, upon my return, I find you even more beautiful than before!" and she will say the same to him.
Death, sadness, rancor, jealousy, envy, hatred—all these feelings and more will be eradicated before anyone enters Jannah. So however you feel about anything on Earth will be completely irrelevant by the time we get to Jannah, by the permission of Allah.
May Allah make us from among those who enter Jannah. Ameen.
Marriage
In Islam, a man with multiple wives has to fulfill ALL the rights due to each one. That means that for all intents and purposes, for her, it's almost no different to being married to a man who has no other wives. She is still:
being taken care of financially
being taken care of emotionally
having her needs met sexually
respected and her family is also given their due respect
within her rights to have children from the union
Polygyny isn't for everyone at the end of the day, so you can write it into your contract if it's an issue for you.
To Be Muslim
Ultimately, what does it mean to be Muslim?
The only statement of the [true] believers when they are called to Allah and His Messenger to judge between them is that they say, "We hear and we obey." And those are the successful.
—Qur'an (an-Nur) 24:51

Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, Allah, the Exalted, has said: O son of Adam, I forgive you as long as you pray to Me and hope for My forgiveness, whatever sins you have committed. O son of 'Adam, I do not care if your sins reach the height of the heaven, then you ask for my forgiveness, I would forgive you. O son of 'Adam, if you come to Me with an earth load of sins, and meet Me associating nothing to Me, I would match it with an earthload of forgiveness.

Do Not Despair In Your Deeds!
Tumblr media
The Prophet PBUH said about good deeds:
"Choose the middle path and do not aim too high, and continue to perform deeds, and know that your deeds will not enter you into Paradise, and that the deed Allah loves most is that which is consistent, even if it is little."
(Sahih al-Bukhari 6464, simplified translation)
"Commit to only as many deeds as you can take, for the best of deeds is that which is consistent, even if it is little."
(Sunan ibn Majah 4240, simplified translation)
"Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said: (...) My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with [additional good] works so that I shall love him. (...)"
(Hadith Qudsi, related by al-Bukhari)
Perhaps you are slow to pray, delaying without need. Perhaps you sleep in the night instead of making istaghfar. Perhaps you let your tiredness, your hunger, your thirst, get the best of you during the day. Perhaps you are sharper in tongue than you should be in the fast. Perhaps you miss suhoor. Perhaps you indulge too much in iftaar. Perhaps you rush to finish tasbeeh, or taraweeh, or your reading of the Qur'an, without pondering the words and your presence in front of Allah. Perhaps you spend too much time on frivilous things - shows, social media, games, and more. Perhaps, past zakat, you do not give to the poor or the hungry or the needy as often as you should. Perhaps you do not offer the charity of kind words and a smile to those who could use it. Perhaps...
... The list goes on. Our shortcomings have no end to them - if we devoted the day to counting all of our mistakes and sins, still we could not measure our flaws. It seems so... endless, doesn't it? Just thinking of all the ways in which we are imperfect and sinful. It weighs us down, allowing waswasa to peek into our thoughts: What is the point of trying anymore, when you have failed so many times?
But do not be discouraged, brothers and sisters.
This is the beauty of Islam. Our Lord SWT and AWJ is so Merciful, He accounts for everything that we are: Our hearts, our bodies, our flaws, our wrongs, our goodness, and our righteous deeds. And Allah knows us better than we know ourselves.
He knows you're trying. He knows you want His reward. He knows you want to get closer to Him. And so He has allowed you to live to this day, yet another opportunity to rectify your affairs. He has put sincerity in your heart, so that you feel regret, so that you may improve upon yourself.
These are all signs that Allah is calling you to His Mercy.
And what a Mercy it is, such that we could never despair in it! You never become so sinful that Allah cannot forgive you. Imagining Allah as incapable of forgiving you, when He is the architect of the universe, the source of all Good? Do not insult Him! Were your sins up to the heavens, Allah would bring you Mercy just as bountiful, so long as you turn to Him, and sincerely repent (Sunan ibn Majah 4248, Hadith Qudsi).
And what better month for repentance, than this holy, beautiful month of Ramadan?
Ask your Lord for forgiveness, brothers and sisters, and for guidance in your efforts to get closer to Him. If you feel overwhelmed by the deeds you have taken upon yourself, return to the basics - perfect your fard prayers, fasts, and charity, for of all deeds, your obligations will endear you to Allah. Once you have well imbued the fard in your life, then take on extra deeds, one at a time - start small and sweet, like making tasbeeh after each maghrib prayer, or giving a little sadaqah each week. Don't belittle the worth of your actions, even when they are few - every single act you do matters, when it is done for the sake of Allah.
Keep to the regular, the manageable, and only when you are certain you can take more than what you already do, do so - for the deeds most beloved to Allah are what is fard upon you, and that with which you are consistent. You've got this!
And Allah knows best. (❁´◡`❁)

Perhaps one of the most significant events in history is the Holy Prophet's (s) mi'raj, in which the Prophet (s) ascended to the high heavens such that he was "only two bows' length away [from God]."
In this important meeting, the Prophet (s) asked God:
Tumblr media
God replied:
Tumblr media
Of all the answers God could have given, He focused on the qualities of tawakkul [reliance upon God] and ridha [contentment with His decree.] It is only when we allow our lives to unfold without resistance, anchored in the knowledge that God will always do what is wise and in our best interest, that we will begin to live the tranquil life God has always intended for us.
Such a life of surrender however does not protect us from pain. The nature of this world is that we will always encounter hardships. The difference is that while we experience pain, we will not fear it. We will feel secure in the knowledge that this pain is necessary for our growth, and all will be compensated beyond measure in our final abode.

Sunnah’s to Follow on the First Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah
The first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are the most virtuous days of the year, in which Allah (swt) has blessed his Ummah with opportunities to multiply their rewards through His infinite mercy. These days are so sacred that Allah swears an oath by them:‘By the dawn; by the ten nights’ [The Noble Qur’an, 89:1-2].
And Allah also reminds us: ‘Remember Allah during the appointed days’. [The Noble Qur’an, 2:203]
Therefore, we should increase our acts of worship during this sacred time. The Prophet (saw) said, ‘There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than in these (ten) days’. [Abu Dawud]
Here are nine Sunnah actions you should follow to seek Allah’s forgiveness and maximise your reward during the best ten days of the year:
Dhikr
Let’s begin with a simple yet effective action - increasing your dhikr. In Makkah, the Talbiyah will be on every pilgrim’s tongue throughout the day and night; those at home have also been commanded to praise Allah constantly in these ten days.
The Eid takbeer is an example of dhikr that ticks all three of these boxes - tahleel, takbeer and tahmeed.
You can also make dhikr after your five daily prayers - SubhanAllah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allahu Akbar 34 times.
Reciting SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi (Glory be to Allah and praise Him) one hundred times a day will wipe away sins - no matter how burdensome they are.
These simple measures will ensure you are remembering Allah throughout the day and benefitting from the blessings of Dhul-Hijjah.
Fast the first nine days
It is Sunnah to fast on the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah, because fasting is one of the best of deeds. In a hadith Qudsi, Allah says, ‘All the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except fasting, which is for Me and I shall reward for it’. [Bukhari]
If you are unable to fast for the whole nine days, try to fast on just the Day of ’Arafah, the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah. Just as Laylat al-Qadr is the most blessed night of the year, ’Arafah is the most blessed day of the year. The Prophet (saw) said, ’There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than on the day of ‘Arafah’. (Muslim)
Like Laylat al-Qadr, we should spend this day seeking forgiveness and availing ourselves of Allah’s incredible mercy. On this day, non-pilgrims have the opportunity to extinguish the sins of two years by fasting! The Prophet (saw) said, ′It (fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah) expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year’. [Muslim]

Give Sadaqah
Many of us maximise our Sadaqah during the last ten nights of Ramadan, but the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are just as valuable and present the perfect opportunity to earn extra rewards for simple good deeds!
Hasan al-Basri (rh) said, ‘Going to fulfil the need of your brother is better for you than performing Hajj after Hajj’.
Helping our brothers and sisters in need is one of the acts most beloved to Allah and we have the perfect tool to help you maximise your rewards over the blessed days of Dhul-Hijjah. The Best 10 Days allows you to automate your donations to five emergency locations, including Yemen and Syria, providing food, clean water and medical supplies to suffering families.
Repent
Hajj is the ultimate act of worship we can perform as Muslims to seek forgiveness from Allah and expiate our sins, but most of us are lucky if we can go even once in our lifetime. That is why Dhul-Hijjah is the perfect gift from Allah, allowing us to repent and seek forgiveness for our sins even if we are not on pilgrimage.
Repentance brings us closer to Allah and cleanses our souls. Allah says:
‘Seek forgiveness of your Lord and repent to Him, [and] He will let you enjoy a good provision for a specified term and give every doer of favour his favour’. [The Noble Qur’an, 11:3]
Pray Eid Salah
Eid Salah is one of the ways we show our Islamic identity as a community and is therefore a very important act of worship for all Muslims to partake in. The Prophet (saw) always attended Eid Salah, as did his companions after he had passed away. He encouraged everyone to attend, even menstruating women - who are unable to perform the prayer itself but can still share in the blessings of this gathering.
Give a Prophetic Qurbani
Abu Talhah (ra) reported, ‘The Prophet (saw) sacrificed for the one who could not sacrifice from his Ummah, one who bore witness to the Oneness of Allah and [his] Prophethood’. [Tabarani and Ahmad]
During Eid, the Prophet (saw) would offer an additional sacrifice on behalf of someone in his Ummah that could not afford to. Allah says, ‘There has come to you a Messenger of Allah from among yourselves, who is distressed by the losses you sustain, who is ardently desirous of your welfare and is tender and merciful to those that believe’. [The Noble Qur’an, 9:128]
SubhanAllah, this generous act of our beloved Messenger of Allah is an incredible example of His mercy to His Ummah that Allah refers to in the above ayah, to sacrifice for his Ummah and cover them till the Day of Judgement.
You too can follow this beautiful Sunnah and give an extra Qurbani to maximise your reward during Dhul-Hijjah. Not only will you be reviving a forgotten Sunnah, but you will be also doubling your impact by feeding even more families a rare meal with meat during the days of Eid-al-Adha.

In a Qudsi (divinely worded) Hadith, Allah Almighty says,
"O son of Adam, if you implore Me and beseech Me, I will forgive you unregretfully for whatever you have committed. O son of Adam, if your sins pile up to heaven, but you ask for My forgiveness thereafter, I will forgive you unregretfully. O son of Adam, If you come to me with as many sins as the dust of the earth, but associating none (i.e., worshipping none but Me) with me, I will meet you with as much forgiveness as commensurate to your sins."
Reported by At Tremithey (3463) and Ahmad (20499).

Allah calls Himself Al-Muqeet— The All-Sustainer, The All-Nourisher, The All-Preserver— on one occasion in the Quran. He is the powerful maintainer who sustains, nourishes, protects, and oversees all that exists. Al-Muqeet is taking care of all living beings by sending down all kinds of physical and spiritual nourishment for them!
The Ultimate Maintainer, Nourishing and Overseeing Creation
Muqeet come from the root qaaf-waw-taa, which carries four main meanings. The first meaning is to supply, maintain, and sustain. The second main meaning of this root is to feed and nourish. The third is to keep, preserve, and guard, and the fourth is to witness, observe, and watch over.
This root appears twice in the Quran in two derived forms. Examples of these forms are aqwātahā (its sustenance) and muqeetan (a keeper).
Linguistically, muqeet refers to the attribute of sustaining. Al-Muqeet sustains bodies and the souls and He has taken it upon Himself to sustain His creation. As He creates all things, Al-Muqeet also creates what sustains them; He makes accessible what is necessary and what is luxury. He gives us what we need to survive, until He wills to put an end to life— then He simply withholds what keeps us alive. Al-Muqeet alone is capable and knowledgeable of everything.
Al-Muqeet Himself says: . . . And ever is Allah , over all things, a Keeper [Quran, 4:85].
Sustaining Body and Soul
Al-Muqeet protects and sustains living beings; in this sense this name is strongly related to Al-Hafeedh, The Preserver. He does not only sustain our bodies with provisions like food and drink, but Al-Muqeet also for example sustains the heart through knowledge. Sustaining us is even more specific than the attribute of providing for us, Ar-Razzaaq.
Al-Muqeet and Al-Mugheeth
Some reports give the name al-Mugheeth instead of al-Muqeet. Al-Mugheeth is interpreted as meaning the Helper, for He helps His slaves at times of difficulty when they call upon Him; He answers them and saves them. It also has the meaning of the One Who responds and the One Who is called upon. Ighaathah [help] refers to actions and istijaabah [responding] refers to words, but they may be used interchangeably. Ibn al-Qayyim said: He is the Helper of all His creatures, and He responds to those who are desperate [Sharh Asmaa’ Allaah ta’aala al-Husna by Dr. Hissah al-Sagheer]
How Can We Live By This name?
1. Make abundant dua to Al-Muqeet.
Al-Muqeet hears the silent dua and responds to it and knows your affliction and is the only One Who removes it. Call upon Al-Muqeet, using this beautiful name, to ask to sustain your body with provisions and your heart with the knowledge of Islam.
2. Recognize Al-Muqeet in every sustenance.
Let this name inspire you to equip yourself with this good manner: every time food is brought to you, recognize Al-Muqeet and His amazing grace through which you are provided with food. This goes for all the daily life provisions you never really think about, even the knowledge you are able to gain to strengthen your mind and heart. If you train yourself to such recognition you will be able to live by this name.
3. Sustain others with the help of Al-Muqeet.
If you are grateful to Al-Muqeet for His sustenance, protection and nourishment He will make you treasure-house for His servants, enabling you to sustain others, teach them knowledge, and lead them to the ever-Living, the Sustainer.
4. Seek your wishes from Al-Muqeet only.
Only seek the fulfilment of all your wishes and desires from Him, for only Al-Muqeet holds the keys to the treasures of His sustenance. Al-Muqeet said in a hadith qudsi to Musa ‘alayhi sallam: O Musa! Ask Me with regard to everything, including your shoe strings and the salt for your pot.
5. Rely on Al-Muqeet.
He can sustain and look after the whole creation without ever getting tired, so be sure Al-Muqeet looks after you in the best possible way. Rely on Him to provide for you, nourish you and protect you by never seeking haram means of sustenance or doubting in His power to maintain you.
6. Nourish your soul by faith in Al-Muqeet.
Nourish your heart by having faith in His Oneness and nourish your soul by the five pillars of Islam; shahadah, prayer, zakat, fasting and Hajj.
7. Use your sustenance in the right way.
Whatever Al-Muqeet blessed you with, protected you with and gave you access to, show Him that you use it to please Him and not to anger Him. Pay your zakah over your belongings, give abundant sadaqah with your time and skills and don’t misuse your sustenance by using it for inpermissable things or by being ungrateful or unsatisfied.
O Allah, Al-Muqeet, we know that You are the only One able to maintain all there ever was, is and will be. Sustain our bodies and souls , make us recognize Your sustenance and guide us to be of those who use their sustenance to gain Your Pleasure and become a way of sustenance for others, teaching others and leading them to You. Bless us with reliance on You and make us seek You only for everything we want or need, ameen!
