New Year's eve with Haikyuu!

Apparently it's been 2 years since this blog and now that I am back, here's a little something for anybody who's been waiting ❤️❤️

New Year’s eve with Suna Rinatrou would be the rock against your bedroom window in the dead of the night, with that silly little grin on his face, hand outstretched with your helmet as he fakes shivering on his bike, streetlights passing by so quickly like white lines against the black sky, stealing food from your takeout box even though he’s got his, the sound of the ocean as you sit back to his chest wrapped up in his jacket, his calloused hand loosely intwined with yours as you watch the fireworks across the night sky. It was feeling his mouth shape around the words Happy new year, and it was searching your face with an unmasked hope that makes you ache because Happy new year meant a promise and an oath, all in one and as you lean back into him hiding your face in his neck, heart jumping to your throat because how could you hide the want and devotion and love in your bones and you mouth the words back to him, happy new year. It was just a moment of peace followed by your angry growls crashing amidst the sound of the sea because RINTAROU!! Delete that fucking picture or you’re dead!

New Year’s eve with Atsumu was the parties with the rest of the Japanese national team, the five star hotels and the dressed to the nines. It was dancing your hearts out, Hinata and Bokuto singing so off key, it was a miracle you guys weren’t kicked out yet. It was his hands wandering your body as you move to the music like you’re made of it, flushing pink, color blooming up your neck and across your cheeks, leaning down to kiss the crown of your head as you casually chat with Iwaizumi. It was the happy humming sound he makes whenever you feed him one of the appetizers that you liked, sneaking away minutes before the countdown because he wanted it to be just the two of you, drunk on champagne bubbles and the feel of your hands intertwined, his smile so beautiful it would make all the dead lovers of the world jealous. It was him kissing you, unhurried and intoxicating, teeth tugging your bottom lip as he leaned more heavily against you, his hands around your waist and yours in his hair, Oikawa whistling and Iwaizumi shutting him up from somewhere because he be like that. It was just your ‘Tsumu looking at you with an earnest sincerity that only he is capable of, a gaze so soft that it made you ache with joy. It was the teasing and the laughter, the warmth of home in the air because you were with Miya Atsumu and he was out there, a little bit drunk as he talks to Bokuto about how you were the peanut butter to his jelly and you had never been happier.

Living in the same neighborhood and growing up together was an experience that bonded you two for life. From you crying on the playground after falling down to always hanging out in each other's houses while your parents were gossiping, you grew closer and closer over the years. I miss iwaoi so much like if someone asked why the heckie do I love this ship so much I don't think I can answer it but just LOOK at them. they've canonically been together ever since the two were toddlers, grew up and went to the same middle school and by then iwaizumi was already the go-to oikawa expert, her knew his fake smiles from real ones, knew when he was gonna lose his cool and just hit kageyama (my poor son) but he also knew Oikawa would regret that and it wasn't the real him. they're in highschool and before anything even happens , iwaizumi knows what's oikawa's thought process, calls him shittykawa but. Also CANONICALLY calls him pretty boy all the time and oikawa blushes. he's probably got that compliment so many times and every time iwaizumi uses it he's probably insulting him or trying to tease him. but. Oikawa still. Blushes from it (haikyuu chapter and haikyuu BU) then when they lose the match with karasuno it's iwaizumi who walks home with oikawa and he knows oikawa is thinking. he'll never be truly happy and iwaizumi knows

But oikawa is also. Leaving for Argentina and iwaizumi is leaving for California (btw the recent magazine interview extra thing furudate did has iwaizumi admitting he wasn't gonna. Fall behind oikawa. So iwaizumi deciding to study abroad was also influenced by him) iwaizumi knows he's gotta get rid of oikawa's doubts right then and there. so he does. he calls oikawa the absolute best setter. iwaizumi is literally biased oikawa is the best setter. even during the early episodes where oikawa says kageyama is better than him it pissed iwaizumi of. and even after YEARS iwaizumi says in the interview that oikawa is the best setter ever. he will never move from that claim.

Now talking about them on court. “physically and mentally linked” and to have kageyama tobio of all people point that out. kageyama who's always only focused on everything volleyball related. and shoyo related. he really exposed iwaoi in front of the whole court saying. Whenever in doubt oikawa San will always end up setting to iwaizumi San. what an insane ass dynamic to havE. Iwaoi are also. Canonically telepathic they're literally reading each other's minds . iwaizumi thinking to himself “i gotta use that line some day, as long as I'm here blah blah” and oikawa responding with JUST WHEN WILL U USE THAT? he reads iwas mind. that one haikyuu bu chapter where oikawa loses his voice and iwaizumi becomes his interpreter. literally reads his mind and tells what's up. and that other bu chapter where iwaizumi asks oikawa to bark so he barks. iwaoi being 12 hours apart (in Japan and Argentina) and iwaizumi going to an onsen and ice hockey. Place in that one seijoh after graduation extra with matsuhana and. Looking gloomily out of the window. hanamaki asking him “is it him? when you look like that it's always about him” meaning iwaizumi misses oikawa so often and sulks so obviously he has a very apparent I miss oikawa face. and matsuhana know it and always ask him about it. iwaizumi responding with a “i just wish he was here too” and then immediately getting a text from oikawa asking him what he's up to. it's 6 am for oikawa he's probably just woken up and he texts iwaizumi. and then immediately responds to iwaizumi when he types his response. oikawa takes time off his day to chat with iwaizumi. I'm not even making it up. and seijoh have regular calls. Where they. Play drinking games (2020 interview) iwaoi probably call each other almost every day. and when they meet at the Olympics again they challenge each other. iwaizumi isn't even playing on the team but they're challenging each other

Moving on from the on page interactions there's also their birthdays being 41 days apart, 4 and 1 being their jersey numbers. Oikawa's birthday being Alexander the greats birthday and iwaizumi being born on alexanders death day. does this mean oikawa starts and ends with iwaizumi? in the court oikawa is often compared to Alexander the Great King and Alexander was very much in love with his right hand man Hephaeston. So much so that he died from grief soon after Hephaeston died. If Oikawa represents Alexander and iwaizumi, as his most trusted represents Hephaeston then they're literally modelled after historic. Lovers. also Alexander looked up to Achilles a lot and we all know about Achilles and Patroclus

Even the names? Oikawa's name means to go through and reaching the river. Hajime iwaizumi means one and spring or fountain. together their names mean dauntless. bravery, pride, mutual trust. that's their strength. and every time oikawa needed to make an epiphany, iwaizumi was there. “a team of better 6 is stronger” that's when oikawa started dividing attention to bringing out everyone's best, not just his own. also iwaizumi becoming an athletic trainer... basically a nurse for team Japan. like. Taking care of injuries, diets and overall health. where do you think he'd already done that? he was used to taking care of Oikawa all his life. I'm not even trying to clutch at straws.. these things are canon. now idk how much of this furudate actually intended. but to have these two boys who have literally. been there. for every stage of their lives. how can I not believe they share a unique and complete love. I genuinely cannot picture oikawa with anyone else because no one will understand him and accept him and mold him the way iwaizumi has and will continue to. also the only relationship oikawa has even been with canonically was some time in middle school and the girl dumped him in like a month or something because he's always obsessed with volleyball. Say what you will but iwaoi is so well done, so nicely structured, the trust and the understanding has such good foundation. Also iwaizumi is canonically as annoying as oikawa. he's just better at hiding it and because he tells oikawa off, people think he's not. but he matches oikawa's energy 100% I think about these two a lot and they really make me hurt and go insane in a way no ship ever has. there's wangxian who are canon gay husbands but iwaoi is so overly connected.... no part of their life can be complete without mentioning the other. and them living in different countries but still managing schedules and staying in touch, them being just fine on their own, but together shining strong and bright. well anyways there's a reason my blog is named after them lmao. they're very special to me. I will write fics on them soon as I get time coz my iwaoi hyperfixation is back full smack force and needs to be dealt with.

Chapter Thirty Nine

TIMESKIP ~ ABOUT ONE WEEK LATER

"Rhodes!" Atsumu shouts as he struggles to carry three cardboard boxes in front of his face, "Yo, can you get the door?!"

"It's already open and I'm behind you, dumbass," Rhodes responds with a sigh.

"Chill out, I've got it!" you say to the two of them as you rush over to the door. "Here, go 'head in."

"Thanks, babe," Atsumu smiles at you as he walks past, but just as he does, he nearly trips over his two feet.

"Yeah, nice and smooth," Rhodes scoffs behind him. "You're really impressin' her. Now can we please go inside? This shit's heavy!"

"Yeah, no shit!" Atsumu grumbles. "And you should be a bit more appreciative! I don't need to help you move into my girlfriend's house."

Rhodes lets out a huff as he puts down the heavy boxes. "I'm sorry," he grumbles. "I hate doing this stuff. It makes me fucking anxious."

"Same here," you empathize. "Not to mention the clutter afterward..."

"I don't even wanna think about that," Rhodes responds as he holds up a hand to stop you.

"Come on, let's just bring the rest of the stuff in," Atsumu smiles at you as he gently slides his hand in with yours. "We're almost done, and the quicker we do it, the quicker we can get it over with."

"You're right," you nod back. "We've only got a few more trips left anyway."

The three of you try to make the most of the tedious situation. You laugh and sing together as you pull all of the boxes into the house and begin to sort them out. Somehow, a few hours later, you find yourself laughing and dancing with Atsumu in the middle of your messy living room. Atsumu smiles down at you as he spins you around and dips you backwards, holding you safely in his arms.

You smile up at him until it fades into a more serious look. "Thanks, Tsumu," you whisper to him. "For everything," you add as you reach up to the back of his head and pull him down to kiss him.

After the kiss, he stands you up and pulls you close to his chest. "I'd do anything for you, Y/N. You don't need to thank me."

Before you can respond, Rhodes (like always) comes in the room with his perfect timing. "Alright, break it up. Save the flirting for the bedroom. God, I hope these walls are soundproof."

"Says you," you tease him. "I don't even want to know what kind of stuff you'll be doing in there."

"And, honey, that's for the best. You better hope you never find out," he grins softly.

"Gross," Atsumu shakes his head. "Can we move on?"

"Yeah," you smile as you take his hand, "let's talk about dinner. What should we do? I'm starving."

"I dunno," Atsumu shrugs, "you guys tell me."

"Well, I think Rhodes should pick. It is his special day, after all," you sing.

"Oh please," he rolls his eyes at you, "you're just saying that so you don't have to pick it out. You can't fool me with fake kindness, Miss Y/N. I see straight through you."

"Well..." you hum hopefully. "Any suggestions then?"

"Oh fine," he sighs, giving in to you. "Pizza. It's nice and simple."

"That's good with me," you smile up at Atsumu, "I have had pizza in a long time!"

"Can't remember the last time I've had it either," he responds. "I'll place the order."

"'K, and I'll set everything up," you offer. "Rhodes, why don't you take a break? It's been a long day."

"Thanks, I'll definitely take you up on that. Call me when food's here, alright?" he smiles softly.

"Will do!" you wave.

A few minutes after Atsumu makes the call, the pizza arrives and you call Rhodes back down into the kitchen. You have everything all set up wonderfully for your first meal with your new roommate and boyfriend. The three of you chat like old friends and the time passes in a flash. Once you're done eating, you pop open a bottle of champagne and pour three glasses. The alcohol flows just as quickly as the laughs pour out of your three mouths.

"To be honest with you, Y/N, I never ever thought we'd end up like this," Rhodes giggles.

"Oh? Why not?"

Rhodes shrugs in response. "I just didn't think we'd become friends like we are now. But I'm really appreciative of everything you've done for me."

"Well I'm glad you see it that way," you smile back at him. "I'm glad we're friends now, too."

"And as for you," he hums, turning towards Atsumu now, "I'm real sorry for all the shit I said about you and Osamu. I thought I hated you after meeting you for the first time. I really only knew the syndicate through Nohebi and Y/N's father, and I judged you both wrongly. Even though Osamu's not here, I'm sorry to both of you. I wish I could tell him that, personally, but-"

"It's perfect," Atsumu says softly. "Thank you. I'm glad we're able to get along now."

"Me too," Rhodes nods. "I apologize for judging you so quickly."

"Water under the bridge."

After your meal, you and Atsumu clean up the dishes and allow Rhodes to go back to his room to set up whatever he has left.

"Well I think that went well," Atsumu smiles as he dries his hands with a nearby towel.

"I agree," you nod. "I think Rhodes is pretty happy. He's less crappy, too."

"That's for sure," he chuckles as he places the towel back on the rack. He then walks up to you and carefully places his arm around your waist. "How are you feeling though?"

"What do you mean?" you ask softly.

"I mean, you know, physically. What Kuguri did to your face. And everything else mentally, too," he tells you.

"Oh that," you sigh as you look away from him. "I'm fine. But I'll feel a lot better if you stay the night."

"Really?" he hums softly as he pulls you closer to his chest. "I guess I can stick around for you."

"Mmm, thanks, Tsumu," you respond as you reach your hand up to his hair and pull him into a kiss. "I've missed being alone with you."

"I have too..."
