april fools

wc: 634
note: using this for @haikyuuwriters‘ monthly prompt event! using the first prompt idea — april fools. also heavily inspired by this song
“Oh… Hi, Y/N…”
You don’t respond, hoodie blocking your view of the two-toned male standing in front of you. You’re absorbed in your studies — classes just started and you’ve found yourself in the place you used to go to all the time for studying last year. The library is where he met you, but it’s also where you always went to escape him.
“I’m gonna go out for a bit,” you said. Your voice lacked any sort of affection. You were only telling him out of obligation and he knew that.
“Where are you going?” he asked, not looking up from his gaming console. He stopped caring but he asked anyway. He didn’t care about what you did anymore.
“Lib. I’ll come back later.”
“Ok.”
You never studied at the library anymore — you made his college dorm your favorite study place once you started dating. He wasn’t surprised this was coming and frankly, he’s glad. He didn’t want to be around you anymore either.
He wasn’t surprised when you came closer to him, leaning your face near his. Naturally, he leaned his cheek toward you, creating another perfectly landed kiss upon his cheek like you two had rehearsed it. It would be safe to say you did, except the times before this weren’t faux acts of intimacy. Now it’s a routine. And still, his eyes never left his console while you left his dorm.
You look up due to a shadow shifting over your iPad, almost not recognizing the man in front of you. But how could you forget those uncaring eyes? For a long time, you’ll never forget the eyes of someone who broke up with you since your relationship was “inconvenient.”
You take an earbud out. “What?” you spit.
“Can I sit with you?” he asks softly, holding up his own tablet.
“No.”
He knew you were mad at him, but he didn’t realize how mad. You’ve never answered him so harshly.
“I don’t get it… Kenma, I know we have our fights but I thought we were working on things,” you said, voice pitiful. You were sick that week — spring fever. Nothing as serious as the feeling of your stomach twisting up from your boyfriend of nearly a year trying to end things with you.
“We were. But it’s just you working on things now. I’m tired of working. I’d rather start fresh next school year anyway. I know you want to stay together but I can’t anymore,” he told you. He didn’t know what else to say — he was being honest and frankly, all those tiresome nights left him without much energy to fluff his words up.
“You’re a good person, but let’s call it quits,” he finally claimed, putting a hand on your shoulder. It was a sad excuse for comfort.
“Kenma…” You didn’t know what to say. “Just tell me what I can do to-”
He cut you off with his lips against your forehead, another rehearsed routine. A hollow movement. And like any other good actor, you fell quiet and leaned into it for the split second it lasted. It was natural for you.
And a week before the school year started again, he foolishly proposed getting back together. When you blew up on him, he responded by saying he meant it as an April Fools joke. It was a lie — a really bad one to cover up that he actually meant it when asking you out.
No wonder you’re so mad at him right now.
“I’m too tired to study anymore so you can have this spot if you really want it,” you say suddenly while standing. You flip the case of your iPad close and send a glare Kenma’s way.
And when you walk past him, neither of you lean in.

Meant To Be (Tadashi x Reader)
Title: Meant To Be Ship: Tadashi x Reader Word Count: 1305 Summary: Tadashi thought they would be lost on campus alone forever; then Y/N came barreling around the corner. Now they’re both hopelessly lost together. Is this even the right campus?
here’s my submission for the haikyuu writers network’s april (4.20 hehe) event!! i had so much fun doing this and i also got to use the sprint feature like three or four times while writing this. not only fun, but a product of resources! hope you all enjoy, definitely a favorite of what i’ve written!
Meant To Be - Part Two here!
Tadashi's been lost before, like at the shopping center when he was younger. His eyes brimmed with fresh tears as he looked into the sea of people. They felt so big, and he felt so small. His heart dropped to his stomach when he realized that his parents were not by his side. After looking around, he had no other choice. Reluctantly, Tadashi tugged on the sleeve of a woman working a counter. He got reunited with his mom and dad, who hugged and kissed him after apologizing for leaving him alone. Since then, he’s never been the type to be by his lonesome.
University is supposed to be his fresh start, his new chance to be different. So far, nothing has shaped up to his expectations.
“Bye, Tadashi! Talk to us on the phone when you get the chance tonight. Make some friends!” His mom waves her fingers as his parents make their parting words. The door closes and he is by his lonesome. It’s funny how he says he never wants to be alone, but here he is, the only living thing in this room. His body sinks into the freshly made bed as his thumbs twiddle over and over again. His roommate hasn’t arrived yet and he plans to ask them to go to the first-year convocation with him, but Tadashi’s thinking that it might not be a good idea. He’ll be late regardless, but he doesn’t want to go alone.
“Come on, Tadashi. Do something for yourself for once.” He kicks himself off the bed and inhales deeply. After a moment, he lets out his breath. It’s only college. He’ll meet his friends eventually. The thing he’s scared about is how long the time period between being alone and having friends will be.
It’s his first time exploring the campus with no one else. When he toured the school, he was with his class. When he came for the admitted students’ day, his parents were by his side. He never expected his first day to be like this. The campus is filled with trees that line the streets on each side. There are people donning his university’s colors and merchandise, but Tadashi wouldn’t just come up to them just to ask if they are freshmen too. He’d just have to find where he needed to go on his own.
Tadashi stares at his phone, scrolling through the endless emails to find the school’s map. He traces the surface to find his exact location. Where is it? The blood in his body rises with his frustration. Where the hell is it?
Instead of finding the street on the map, his phone flies out of his hand and everything following is in slow motion. The world stops just for him, and apparently for you as well.
In a Hail Mary save, you grab at his phone and it miraculously holds in the palm of your hand. “I’m really sorry! I didn’t mean to bump into you. I’m just trying to get to the convocation!”
While Tadashi takes back his device and places it into his jacket pocket, he tilts his head. “You’re going to the convocation as well? Are you a freshman too?” Maybe this Hail Mary save isn’t just reserved for his phone.
“Yeah! But I’m pretty sure we’re on the wrong campus,” you mutter, scratching your head.
“W-wrong campus?” Now, he’s really confused. “It starts in fifteen minutes.” His head is spinning and he’s wondering why he even came to this college; he should have gone somewhere that is close to home, somewhere that’s small and that he could get used to easily—
“Hey! Are you doing okay? I’m (Y/N), we’ll get there if we start walking. It shouldn’t be too far. You were in the right direction actually,” you start spewing words to make him feel better. While you walk side by side, your eyes look up to him. He’s the size of your dad, but maybe you’re just thinking of how you miss your dad so much. “Were you going to meet up with any friends or...”
Tadashi shakes his head. “I’m Tadashi. I was hoping to ask my roommate but he hasn’t shown up yet, so maybe he’s planning to move in after the convocation. I’m the only one from my school who decided to come to this university.”
“Oh.” It’s hard to comfort someone who looks like they want to crumble inside, whether it’s from frustration or anxiety or whatever it is. “Well, what about your parents? Did they just drop you off?”
“Yeah, didn’t seem like they cared enough to stay with me until convocation, but I know they’re busy so it’s okay,” Tadashi murmurs with a hint of malice on his tongue. He knows that his parents have work to do, he should be lucky that he had help moving into his dorm. “I love my parents! I don’t want you to think that I don’t. I just wish my parents were with me since they know I’m not a social person.”
“Are you sure you’re not?” You joke but you dismiss it quickly. He doesn’t seem like the type to want to hear laughs when all he wants is empathy. “I understand though. My mom brought in my things and then left. Kind of sad, but we’re similar enough.”
It is days like these that make you miss the world you had before. A world where you could go down for breakfast and see your mom and dad sharing their cups of coffee, laughing together. Before your last year ended, your dad uprooted his whole life to make a new one with work. Your mom called it quits before it hurt her too much. You understand that, but it’s more painful knowing that your mom didn’t even try to save whatever relationship they had. What ever happened to high school sweethearts? What ever happened to “through good and through bad,” what ever happened to the promises they had?
What ever happened to number one dad?
“Er, would you happen to know where we’ll be going after this? I don’t think I can trust my own judgement.” Tadashi stops to give a proper look at his phone. His stance is so small with his hands close to his face. It’s actually quite...cute. You’re thankful for someone who is on cloud nine, even when he doesn’t mean to be. You need some of his energy anyway; your own head is lost in the dead past. You should be focused on what’s going on right now.
You scan the area, thinking back to when you toured the school with your friends. “We should be headed down this way.” You point down the street, where the school’s major auditorium is. “We’re lucky that we met up around here. Anywhere else and it would probably be too far to walk there.”
Tadashi hums, but he’s mostly in his head while the two of you coast the sidewalks to get to the building where the convocation is held. Thank goodness you aren’t so late that you’d be banging on locked doors. While students are still being filed in, you both stand in line, waiting for the other to start speaking. Tadashi looks at you with an expecting gaze. “I don’t have any friends, so could I, maybe—”
“Would you like to come sit with me?” He nods his head in response, a grateful smile gracing his lips. “I’ve got one other friend here, but she told me she was dropped off at the building by her parents, which is why I was walking by myself.” You say into the air, “I guess things just fall right into place.”
For the first time of the day, his chest is light. “Yeah, I suppose they go where they’re meant to be.”

Not A Goddess - Tanaka x Reader
Request from @leandersluckylady:
Hello^^ May I request Tanaka x Reader?? Who just so happens to be Hinata’s older sister?? Anyways I hope you’re having a wonderful morning/day/night!!
Thanks for the request! I enjoyed trying to figure out how to keep Tanaka in character for this one.
Summary/Preview:
“Kiyoko saw your eyes dim. Ah. You must have noticed. Tanaka flattered most girls - with her the foremost.” One-sided TanaKiyo told from Kiyoko’s perspective. Genre: Angst. Fem!reader
A/N: I combined this request with my match up request and the haikyuuwritersnet monthly prompt. I used the sakura prompt. The match up request details are at the end of this. This is my first time writing angst, so I hope turned out okay. (Anon, if you want me to make a cute and funny matchup for you instead, just let me know!)
Tumblr media
Words: 900+
They had just waved to say their final goodbyes at their graduation. Daichi, Suga, and Asahi were all starting to tear up. But when they were out of sight from their kouhais, they were surprised to see that Kiyoko had broken down crying.
Between sobs, she could hear her friends reassuring her. “It’s okay Kiyoko! We’ll see them again.” She was thankful that they had misunderstood. Then at least she could keep crying without them prying any further.
It didn’t help that falling cherry blossoms surrounded them. It only reminded her of the day she waited for Tanaka.
It started a year ago on a similar day. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom, representing the beginning of a new school year. Kiyoko waited at the park for Tanaka along with Daichi and Suga to enjoy the cherry blossom festival together.
As she watched Tanaka looking for their meeting spot, he noticed another girl in a Karasuno uniform. You. After greeting you and asking a couple more questions, he commented, “You’re really cute.”
Kiyoko saw you stutter and blush. You got really happy from his comment. Kiyoko had seen this before. Tanaka didn’t know he had that effect on girls like you. Girls who get really happy when someone praises them, when someone encourages them.
She dreaded the moment that was about to happen next.
“Kiyoko-san!!!” Tanaka exclaimed while he ran over to them. “My one and only goddess!”
Kiyoko saw your eyes dim. Ah. You must have noticed. Tanaka flattered most girls - with her the foremost.
He came running. She ignored him. He loved it.
You saw Tanaka practically worshipping Kiyoko. She could see it is your eyes. “I’m not a goddess.” You were one of those girls who was insecure and unsure about herself. Not that Kiyoko could blame you.
Why was that such a vivid memory for Kiyoko? Who knows.
She saw you again when Tanaka dragged you to her class. “Kiyoko-san!! Could you help us?”
Kiyoko looked up with curiosity. “What do you need help with?” she asked with her usual calmness.
“Oh wait! I didn’t introduce you two. This is Y/n! I just found out she’s Hinata’s older sister!! I didn’t even know he had one!”
Kiyoko looked at your glasses and brown hair. You must of gotten them from your dad. Tanaka continued to chat, asking for help with math and physics. Kiyoko noticed your shy demeanor and smiled at you. “I’d be happy to help,” she replied.
During those days, Kiyoko knew that Tanaka wanted help from her to spend more time with her. But what he didn’t realize was that he was actually getting to know you better.
You started to show more of your playful side and liked to joke around with him. You laughed whenever Tanaka did something weird or over the top. Sometimes you would even join him with a weird dance.
There was even a day when Tanaka tricked you into watching a horror movie. He laughed. You gave him an adorable whine while he just continued to tease you.
But then something happened. You changed him. You told him that you didn’t like it when he flattered or complimented you. “I usually love it when someone praises me. But with you, they feel empty.”
You knew he probably meant every word he said - and he reaffirmed that. But it was hard for you to tell if they were true because of your insecurities. You asked him to be patient with you as you dealt with them. He said you didn’t have to. He stopped.
And as a result, he stopped flattering Kiyoko as well.
Kiyoko could see that he had fallen for you. You were comfortable around each other with no barriers. You communicated with each other. You helped each other. He started being more mindful about what he said. You were able to grow more confident with his help.
“You should stop pursuing me, Tanaka,” Kiyoko told him.
“But I’m loyal to you.”
“You’ve already fallen for her.”
Kiyoko knew he didn’t want to admit it because he was a man of his word - which was why she had to give him a final rejection.
“I don’t like you that way Tanaka. So go with someone who does.”
But that was a lie. Kiyoko had fallen for him as well. She admired his tenacity - the ability he had to pick himself up again. She was in awe of his loyalty. There was also his ability to care for and pick up the team when they were down.
But it wouldn’t work out. Not with her.
He didn’t know the weird things about Kiyoko. Like how ugly her feet looked. Or the way she dressed at home. Or how messy her room was. She wanted him to, but she was his goddess.
So he left. It was hard for him at first, hearing Kiyoko’s rejection. But she was right. He had fallen for you. So at her cherry blossom graduation, the two of you smiled and waved at her. You had your arm around his waist while his hand was on your shoulder.
Kiyoko smiled at the two of you and said, “You’re cute.”
Maybe if he didn’t think so highly of her, she could have been with him. She wished she could have been open with him and tell him, “I’m not a goddess.” But she couldn’t. She never gave herself the chance. She wished he never saw her that way.
So she cried. Because she never really had him. The real Kiyoko.

Matchup request from Anonymous:
hi, hope you are well!! here’s my matchup request: (part 1) i wear glasses and i have medium brown hair (although i like it shorter because i think it’s cute) and my cheeks are also a little big. i’m short 😔😔 (155cm tall). i speak very loudly (my friends are always complaining). i like watching anime, cartoons and disney films. i am also a fan of hp and my house is a ravenclaw!! my hobbies are drawing and listening to music (mainly kpop and indie), but sometimes i read books. (part 2) i really hate horror movies and i’m not good with games and sports (but i find it interesting, i like to watch). i am terrible with math and physics, i think these subjects hate me 😡😡 (biology and history>>>>). (part 3) i am very creative and my friends say that i am cute (i love to hear that :p). i like to be fun (making funny jokes or weird dances). despite that, i’m quite temperamental and sensitive. although i am a very shy person and i get nervous when i have to talk to new people (i like to make friends but it is a little difficult), but when i get close i end up showing a more playful side. i can also be very insecure, so when someone praises me and ends up being happier than usual.
Like usual, I didn’t touch on everything for plot reasons but I think I hit the key points about you. 🙂
Matchup taglist: @nagichi-deku @nxlx96 @muffins-puffins (let me know if you want to be added or removed)

PROMPTS
Below are the prompts you can choose from! You don’t have to answer the questions — they’re just there to help get you thinking. Be as creative as possible as long as the prompt is the central focus of your writing piece
April Fools — write about a character(s) pranking another character(s). Does the pranked get upset or do they laugh it off? Does is ruin the relationship between them or do they get closer? Do they work together to prank someone else after?
April Showers — write about a rainy day. How does it impact the characters/plot? Do your characters associate certain feelings with rainy days? Does it ruin plans or make them? Is this an AU where a character can change the weather? Horror story waiting to happen or late afternoon cuddles?
Easter — write about Easter! How do your characters celebrate? Do they love or hate the holiday? Do they even remember it’s happening? Do they dye eggs together?
Sakura — write about the Cherry Blossom Festival. Does it take place during one of your characters’ birthdays? Is your character going with a group of friends, family, s/o, or alone? Is this where love blooms for them? Do they run into trouble with other festival goers? Can they rent a boat to float under the sakura trees that hang over the moat? Or are they suffering because they’re allergic to the blossoms?
First Day — write about your character(s)’ first day of school in Japan. Are they starting a new school or is this another year? New or old friends? What clubs want them? Do they make enemies or friends? Are they a troublemaker in the first day?
A has finally prepared the perfect prank against B for April Fool’s. Unfortunately, the universe decides to pull its own series of pranks on A.
A rushes to find shelter before the sudden shift in weather ruins during their date, but B is already dancing in the rain. Colds be damned, they were going to have a magical night.
A is determined to win the egg hunt to get the best prize, and B fits perfectly in the smaller hiding spots.
A and B search all day for the perfect spot to have a picnic beneath the cherry blossoms, but every spot is either taken or too close to nosy friends from school.
A thought they would be lost on campus alone forever; then B came barreling around the corner. Now they’re both hopelessly lost together. Is this even the right campus?
