“How long will you be gone?” you ask as you watch Bucky struggle to tie the laces of his boots.
“I’m hoping not more than two or three days,” he answers, clearly getting fed up with the task.
You walk over to him; your slippers making a soft shuffle along the wood floor and kneel at his feet.
“Let me help you,” you murmur, taking the laces from his hands.
“My fingers are just too damn thick and I can’t make the little loops,” Bucky huffs.
“I like your thick fingers,” you purr. “A lot.”
When you lift your eyes to his he’s wearing a lopsided smirk and his eyes are crinkled at the corners with mischief.
“Yea I know you do baby doll.”
A dark strand of hair falls in front of his face and you reach up to tuck it behind his ear. You lean up for a quick kiss and it falls again, tickling your cheek. This time he tucks it behind his ear before cradling the back of your neck and pulling you closer to deepen the kiss.
You smile against his lips when a piece of hair from the other side falls forward and brushes against your skin.
“Son of a bitch,” he grumbles and you giggle.
“I have an idea,” you tell him and run toward the bathroom. “Be right back.”
When you return he looks at the brush in your hand, his eyebrows drawing together.
“What are you up to doll?”
You don’t answer and instead crawl behind him on the recliner and start brushing his hair. You smooth it back from his forehead and comb through it before securing it neatly at the base of his neck with your black hair tie.
“Thank you,” he whispers and takes your hand to kiss your palm.
Dropping the brush, you lay yourself over his back and wrap your arms around his shoulders, burying your face in his neck.
“I don’t want you to go,” you mumble into his skin, inhaling his scent.
His hand closes around your wrist and he gently tugs you around until you’re seated in his lap.
“I hate being away from you doll face. Hate it. But I have to go.”
“I know Buck,” you whisper and curl into his chest. “Hurry home safe ok?”
The first day goes by slowly as you watch the sun set from the small balcony of your Brooklyn apartment. It isn’t until you’re snuggled up in bed, wearing nothing but Bucky’s red Henley, that your phone rings with a FaceTime.
“Hiya doll face,” Bucky softly says the moment you pick up. “Boy do I miss you.”
“It’s only been a day,” you tease but your eyes water when you look him over. “You’re still using my hair tie.”
“Of course, I am. It’s been a life saver. I’m keeping it forever,” he promises with a sweet smile. “I don’t do the bun as good as you do though.”
“It looks perfect,” you tell him and brush your finger over the screen. “I miss you so much.”
You fill him in on the day you and Alpine had and he laughs when the fluffy white cat appears in front of the screen at the mention of his name. He promptly swishes his tail into the camera and blocks your view.
“Alpine!” you gently scold and move him into your lap. “He misses you too Buck.”
Just as Bucky is about to answer a loud explosion goes off behind him and the phone shakes. The video starts to cut out and you can’t make out Bucky’s words but you can see that he’s moving. Steve comes into view and you hear another loud sound before the call cuts off.
“Bucky?” you tremble, pressing the call back button over and over.
It never goes through and you don’t hear from him again for the rest of the night. You barely sleep as your mind races with every awful scenario possible, your pillow wet with tears. When you finally fall asleep the edge of the sky is glowing with orange and pink as the sun rises and exhaustion has taken over.
You wake to an inky black sky, the North Star twinkling in and out when you stare out the window. You drag yourself from the bed and run a bath, sinking under the hot water in the hopes that it will ease the tension in your shoulders.
When the water is cold you dry off and put Bucky’s Henley back on, curling up on the couch with Alpine in the quiet darkness. Alpine’s ears straighten then fall back as he sits up.
“Bucky?” you whisper as you struggle to make out any sounds.
Soon his heavy footfalls can be heard down the hall. You jump up just as he opens the door. For a moment you simply stare, unsure if he’s really there.
“Baby doll,” he breathes out, dropping his bag.
You launch yourself into his waiting arms, peppering his bloodied face with kisses and wrapping your legs around his waist. You reach behind him and pull the tie from his hair, letting it fall and frame his face as you take it in your hands and sweep your gaze over every inch.
“Bucky,” you whisper, your eyes filling with tears.
He takes the hair tie and slips it onto his wrist. It’s the only thing that remains after all the clothing has fallen to the floor with desperate touches and whispered words of love.

Drarry microfic: hair tie
The living room was quiet. Draco was sitting on the ground in front of the couch, his back leaning against Harry’s legs as he read his book. Hector was curled up on his lap, his soft cat-like snores one of the only sounds that could be heard.
Harry’s fingers were gentle yet steady as they made quick work of Draco’s long, long hair. He had become quite proficient at braiding Draco’s hair over the years.
It had been a very slow learning process, with Draco having to explain how to braid his hair. And having to explain again after that and again and again. Until eventually, after months of trying, and failing, Harry had gotten the hang of it.
And ever since, it had become a routine. Their routine.
Every time Draco washed his hair, Harry would braid it for him, his fingers making quick work of those blond locks.
Sometimes, he would even wave a few deliciously smelling flowers he had bought in Luna’s flower shop on the way home from work, through Draco’s hair, casting a preservation spell afterwards so the flowers wouldn’t wither too quickly.
And Draco absolutely loved him for it.
Distracted, Draco turned a page of his book, his other hand still resting in Hector’s fluffy fur. He hadn’t even noticed the fingers had paused in his hair.
“Draco?” Harry’s voice was quiet, his breath ghosting over Draco’s bare neck.
“Hmm?” Draco turned his head slightly in Harry’s direction.
One of Harry’s hands moved to Draco’s face, his fingers trailing the edge of Draco’s jaw. “Have you got a hair tie for me?”
Closing his eyes, Draco leaned into Harry's touch, his hand reaching into his trouser pocket. “Here”, he mumbled, giving Harry a small emerald green ribbon.
Harry snorted. “Of course you have to be all fancy and use a ribbon instead of a simple hair tie.”
“It’s used to tie my hair together. So it still counts as a hair tie.”
“Alright, alright.” Harry’s lips moved to Draco’s neck, softly caressing the sensitive skin there. “You’re gorgeous, love.”
“Hmm…” Draco closed his eyes again, an easy smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “Aren’t I always?”

Headcanon: Elisa’s hair 💇🏽♀️
So, coming from a girl who had waist length hair for nearly most of my elementary year, I can understand the struggles that come with having such long locks. Often hard to brush, gets caught in everything, updos being a hassle, etc. However, the point I what to draw attention to the most is the problem with wind. Goodness, I cannot tell you how hard enough it is with shorter hair, but long hair is a whole different story.
Elisa always wears her hair the same (save when she dressed up for Halloween) which means it’s always down, even when she’s up in the air with the gargoyles. So, please consider that while Goliath is carrying her, her hair is just whipping around crazily, which not only blinds her (and sometimes Goliath) but leaves her with her hair looking like a tumbleweed as they finally land.
At first, she decided not to be too bothered by it because hey, first time meeting a gargoyle and she didn’t consider hair ties for when said gargoyle would carry her and fly. So, she decides to overlook it. The second time, she’s over here with pieces of it flying in her eyes like , okay, not expecting this again, but we can work with this. The third time, however, she’s practically choking on her hair as the wind repeatedly flings it back in her face and Goliath is just politely keeping quiet even though his vision is partially covered too.
So she finally uses hair ties, which do help a bit. However, she doesn’t always remember to bring them. She’s a police detective with a questionable sleep schedule, she’s bound to forget something in the morning
And so, my friends, I introduce this concept which makes Goliath the perfect gentlemen/boyfriend material he already is. Consider, Goliath carrying around hair ties so Elisa will have something for her hair.
He’ll find them strewn in random places around the clock tower from when she brought some and forgot, and whenever he finds one he just slips it on his wrist. He soon starts layering them and it looks like he’s wearing a thick bracelet, but it’s actually just a plethora of hair ties he found laying around 😂
A time comes when they have to take off in the air again, and Elisa goes to Goliath with a pinched look on her face, holding a handful of hair, then her face just morphs into a look of surprise as he pulls off a tie from his wrist and offers it to her.
“I noticed you kept forgetting these, and I thought, it would best if we could both see clearly tonight.”
The hair tie is absolutely stretched out because his wrist is obviously larger than hers, but it was just so sweet of him and she’s not tearing up about it at all. She has to wrap it around more times than usual but she certainly isn’t complaining.
Of course, the trio find out and are just fawning and teasing about the whole ordeal, meanwhile Hudson just looks on with a knowing smile.
