I had the urge to talk about my love for Hal Jordan so I'm gonna go over a few panels from "Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #23"

Before I get into it, I'd like y'all to know that I've not done anything like this on here before so if it's formatted weirdly, I sincerely apologize!

With that out of the way, allow me to ramble:

First things first, I relate to Hal's fear in nearly every scenario. His fear is depicted so realistically and there have been moments where I've been afraid of letting people down and not being good enough. I've also always had a fear of failing even when I try the absolute hardest I can. The panel with Hal's hand on his face is genuinely one of the most emotional for me since I'm seeing one of my favorite heroes almost give up. At what seems like the 11th hour, Hal hears the voice of someone he loves and looks up to most...

In case you don't know, Hal Jordan lost his dad at a very young age due to a test pilot accident. This isn't even really the same thing but I've also grown up without a father figure in my life. My father isn't dead by any means but he was never there, so in a weird way I can relate to not having a father figure for the majority of my life. Now the person I love most is different from who I look up to most but it's all basically the same. The way Hal just instantly feels better when he hears his father's voice and sees a figment of his dad is something that reminds me of myself. Not too long ago I was having a rough time and I decided to just call my mom so I could hear her voice, and I sometimes scroll through images I have of my girlfriend to make myself feel better too.

I just love how feel-good this page is. The lighthearted tone in a stressful situation is something I think nearly everyone enjoys.

And then having that moment where you have to collect yourself and process everything while so much is going on is peak relatability (I'm sometimes not okay lmao)

As mentioned previously, there are two people who I love most, and they are constantly on my mind, the same way Hal says his dad is always on his mind. The sentimentality in this page gets me every time. I have these moments where I close my eyes and think about things my mom would say to calm me down and it always works. I just love their relationship as father and son.

And this page is just the most emotional overall. Hal telling himself that he's basically going to overcome his fear is powerful. I've not done that myself until like 3 years ago after getting into Green Lantern. It's honestly one of the healthiest habits that I've gained and I have Hal Jordan to thank for that. Afterwards, Hal feels confident in himself again and it all boils down to being a second wind.

The motivation that his dad gives is similar to the motivation I get from not just my mom or my girlfriend, but all of my friends. I've always felt really good after having some sense smacked into me so having a character who gets that is really endearing to me.

I could dive into so much more about why I love Hal Jordan but it comes down to how amazing his ability to overcome great fear is. There's a reason he's considered the "greatest Green Lantern of all time". His ability to overcome great fear gives me the motivation to overcome my fears. His willpower has found its way into my mental health and it has honestly helped me get through some really dark times.

I don't think I'd be where I'm at today if not for Hal Jordan, and I'm really grateful for that.

Man Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern corps was a good read. sometimes it is hard to want to read titles, or jump in because comics have been around for so long and there is a lot you feel you need to know before reading.

really all you have to do is pick a character or a writer and read their runs. sure you might miss out on a few references or be clueless about a characters relation with another, but a lot of times runs can give you little clues about what to go read if you really want to know

or they just outright show you why things are the way they are in the pages. I am glad to be a fan of DC and comics in general and going back to kinda just read this at my own pace really reminded me of why.
