the night we met, part 3
a/n: hope you enjoy! mentions of torture and guns throughout, kinda long and unrealistic but its fanfic so 🥴
what if haley never died that day? but what if your love for hotchner had to?
part 1, 2
Tumblr media
"have you found her yet?!" hotch barked the order out as penelope frantically searched through copious amount of cctv footage all at once. several computer screens were open for the team, trying to find a clue on the location of where you had been taken.
"not yet sir" garcia whispered, her fingers practically flying across the keyboard silently begging for any sign where you could've left. hotch tried to reign his anger back in, this wasn't anyone fault but himself. if only he had caught up to you, just 60 seconds before you wouldn't have been here. if only that stupid kiss hadn't even happened, you wouldn't be god knows where getting tortured.
he takes a breath, knowing deep down it's not the time to react emotionally but it's hard not to, it's hard to even think rationally when he knows the likelihood of you surviving wasn't all that great. his profiler brain knew the possible outcome from this wasn't exactly high and with every second his worst fear could potentially become true.
"have you found her?" haley's voice cuts in and hotch shakes his head, his fingers pinching his temple for any signs that he must've missed. it feels overwhelming around him, flashes of people and the sounds of you seeping through his mind. it's dizzying trying to piece together what's real and what's not, flashes of you and that damned kiss is all that plays on his mind. the softness of your lips, the utter desperation between you both, the sheer passion that radiated in waves, all of it. he needed it again, he craved it.
it's even worse when his wife, the mother of his child, the very woman you almost got shot for, is standing there looking at with concern but he doesn't take any notice. he never would've though haley's voice could be so shrill and irritating, he never could've imagined himself recoiling away from her. so he simply doesn't answer her, sighing as he tries to go over the footage with garcia. he should tell her about the kiss but his lips remain closed, not willing to share anything more about you to her.
"well i can help-" "haley please. go home protect jack, he needs one of us" hotch dismisses her, his heart becoming in control of the situation. he can't stand to look at her, feeling so guilty for kissing another woman but even worse because he didn't regret doing it. his only regret was not kissing you for longer. still, hotch knew he was being overly harsh but the pure fear, the worry of you being alone and he wasn't there was enough to send him tumbling into a pit of pure distress.
but he took a breath, now was not the time to become emotional. he had to get his head in the game. the risk of losing you was too much to bear but the thought of you being out there, chained to a devil was enough to keep him going.
"police have set up roadblocks blocking any main exits in the city. if they've travelled, they can't leave the country" jj and emily come in, but the information isn't enough. who knows what the man could've been doing to you by now, who knows what terrible inflictions could've been upon you.
"we've checked any significant location but they've all come negative, the detectives are checking for any last known locations and the camera footage when they leave...." morgan and spencer are next to enter, their shoulders deflating in disappointment and sadness being unable to find you.
"we'll find her aaron" rossi pats hotch's shoulders and though the sentiment is sweet, any hope is starting to crumble and diminish now. you were just here, how could they not find you yet? the bau was supposed to be one of the safest buildings, how could someone so easily take you away like that?? his resolve was breaking and if he wasn't careful, all the feelings that were locked up tightly would begin to spill before he could've comprehended it. the truth he was too scared to admit would be admitted and he didn't know how long he could hide it for
before anyone could respond, a beeping appeared. and there beheld a sight they wished they would never have had to see.
taking a good glance at you, all seven team members found their hearts shattering piece by piece in their chests. a chorus of horrified gasps and exclaims echoed throughout the room and hotch could barely even breathe, the words dying on his lips
"aaaand here we go" you hear a click, the whirr of a computer and it takes you all your strength to awaken. an overwhelming feeling of tiredness practically envelopes your body, how easily you could fall into the darkness that awaits your presence. and then the unfamiliar feeling of being tied up grabs you attention, fear courses through your veins as your eyes open and adjust to the setting. it felt like a hospital room but this was no place where people were fixed. the sickly smell of blood and bleach is strong in the air, its overpowering and nauseating
but you calm your mind, it wasn't the time to panic. you had to think, you had to fight, you had to survive
your vision was slightly blurred looking at the man who held you captive, trying to ignore the intense throbbing in your head. your hands were cuffed to some chain, holding you upright on your feet. but he loosens something and you fall to the ground with a soft thud, vision spinning from the lack of hydration and the beatings he had given you prior.
"ohmy god.... y/n??" a breathless whisper echoes throughout the room and painfully, you glance at the camera. there, all your team members stood in complete horror. you see hotch and for the first time since you had known him, he's at a loss for words. just looking at you with so much pain, so much anger, so much fear.
you could feel your cheeks burning from shame and embarrassment, at your situation or the kiss you didn't really know. you didn't even want to know.
"y/n?? are you okay??? someone tell me she's okay please-" garcia looks on tearfully while morgan comes behind her, guiding her to the computer. truthfully they didn't have an answer to her question but they needed to focus, to keep you alive. and you didn't need to be disrupted, not when your life was at stake.
"that was to prove she's very much alive so none of you have to worry" and just like that you're brought up to your feet again, groaning when the handcuffs pinch the skin tightly. there's so much pain, you can't even pinpoint where it hurts the most.
"what is she dressed in?" someone seethed and you blink in confusion, craning your neck to see your body. it was a black gown you were in, a slit riding up the thigh. it was beautiful, too pretty to be drenched in blood. a stark contrast to the situation you were in now.
"don't worry i didn't change her, i had someone else to do it for me. my prizes have to look picture perfect" he brushes a piece of your hair and you swing your head out of the way, eliciting a kick from him. you don't even cry out, gasping for air at the momentum he had lunged at you with. your hands grip around the handcuffs but it was useless, you couldn't claw your way out of metal.
"you stupid bitch!" his fingers grip your face, you could see just how much his rage consumed him. it was unnerving to say the least, the slightest thing seemed to tick him off. there was no telling what he could do to you in this state
"enough!" hotch grits out, his fingers clenching into tight fists by his side. piece by piece his facade was cracking underneath the unsub's hammer. he couldn't reign in his control this time, not with your life being threatened
"who are you?" you grit out painfully, trying to stop the wave of nausea hitting you over and over. the man doesn't answer, the head of his gun trailing from your chin to the centre of your neck. you hear the click of the revolver and your breath is hitched, wondering if he was really going to kill you this way. wondering if you'd be shot in front of your team that remained helpless on the other side
"i've always wondered what the price was for killing an fbi agent was-" you see the man's cruel smile hit you can't answer, the fear felt overpowering.
"don't you dare" hotch snarls, surprising everyone with the intensity of his rage. and to your surprise, it had worked. the man eyed hotch and with a soft grin, dropped his gun and you felt your lungs take their first breath. tears pricked your eyes, the tiredness was practically swimming in your body but you couldn't crumble. not in front of the unsub, not in front of your team. and especially not in front of hotch.
"i think we should play a game, no?" the man smiles sadistically, pointing to you again. any strength you once held was shattering minutes by minute. your mind and body fighting over one another, wanting to give in and give up but forcing yourself to stay awake no matter what
"leave her alone! i can have you arrested on multiple accounts of-" hotch's face was unreadable, his hands etched tightly around the monitor but the unsub gestures to his mouth, to silence them all.
"if you want her alive, you'll do what i say. good luck trying to pinpoint our location, right now the cell service is bouncing around several cell towers all across the globe" frustrated, hotch looks towards garcia who was working feverishly and she sadly nods, it wasn't a clear location no matter how times she tried to hack into the system. she was hit waves and waves after a firewall which could take hours, time you didn't have to spare.
"so back to the game, who wants to start? oh and if anyone moves," you feel the pinch of a knife resting dangerously on the pulse in your neck.
"one twist and she's on the ground and i'll be miles away. and this would've been all for nothing" he moves the knife down to the centre of your neck. leaving spots of blood in its wake. all of them look helplessly at each other, the unsub had them right where he wanted them and they knew. any slight movement would guarantee your death, any secret calls would have you beaten before they could hang up.
you were all at his mercy, whether they liked it or not
"derek morgan" the unsub peered around the group and his eyes settle on him eerily. morgan gulps a little, trying to calm his shaking hands. his eyes looks at you helplessly then back to the unsub where his gaze had hardened as puts up his profiler front once more
"we're starting off easy, how many years have you and agent l/n known each other" the question was simple enough and yet it felt like he asked into the lions den, suddenly feeling rather exposed and confused. as if any answer to this simple question would be wrong even if it was the truth
"wha-" derek began but he heard a sound of disapproval and your shocked wince as you were yanked back by your hair
"wrong answer" you weren't even given a warning or a countdown before you feel a surge of hot white pain floods through your body. painful screams rip out through your mouth, your hands desperately clawing at the handcuffs but its to no avail. the team stand there panicking, yelling at the man to stop. the pain was intense, you could've almost passed out from the pure agony crippling you
"waitwait wait stop stop!!! it's three!!! i've known her three years!!!" derek shouts, banging the screen and the pain is low dull one, you gasp and gulp for oxygen that never fully reaches your lungs.
"if you had answered the first time around, none of this would have happened would it?" he scowls, giving you a nudge with the stick. you gasp out for air, your tongue heavy on your lips as your body groans against the ties holding you up
"hurry up garcia" hotch commands under his breath to penelope, her eyes watering as she's trying desperately get some location on you. jj and emily help, trying not to look at the horror that was unfolding and focus their attention on bringing you back safely.
"i'm so sorry, i'm so sorry-" morgan whispers, his hands shaking looking to and back from you and the unsub. hotch can only stare with his mind spinning, breathing coming out in short bursts, his heart feeling like it had plunged to the deepest darkest parts of the earth. he's losing his composure and as much as he's trying to reel it back, it keeps slipping from him. leaving nothing but a vulnerable scared man
"how you doing?" the man prods your head and you could only gasp at the anguish flooding your body. if it weren't for the incredibly tight rope holding you upright, you would've collapsed a long time ago.
"doesn't she look so pretty?" he holds your face mockingly and turns so the rest of them can see. every member of your team feel their hearts shattering and splintering, their hitched gasps of panic at the beating.
"agent hotchner" the unsub asked another question, his dark eyes settling on hotch. a manical grin on his lips as he revels in the alarm he has inflicted on the whole team. as if it gives him satisfaction that your life danced in his hands and your team members could do nothing but watch
"truth or dare?" the unsub smirks and hotch looks at you, his stoic facade crumbling. his heart was falling into a million pieces he's not sure he'll ever recover from
"truth" hotch utters, his voice completely free from the cold tone he usually dons.
"do you love agent l/n??" the chain holding you upright once again loosens, and that sends you tumbling to the floor in a broken beaten pile. your heart was racing, partly because of the pain but mostly due to what he would answer. with a good amount of strength, you raise your head and look at the camera. looking at his face, how his eyes flickers with so many emotions and how you can practically see his resolve breaking away
hotch was a good liar but seeing your broken defeated face, being unable to help you, he had answered the question without even realising.
"yes" the murmur was soft, his voice cracking as he takes in your approach. he had caused this. he had done this to you. the promise of protection was nothing more than jumbled words at his feet. he broke the very thing he swore on you, how could ever look at you the same again?
"aww what a cute lil romantic story this has evolved into" the unsub had cackled and your head shook, glaring at both hotch and the man who had held you captive
"there's nothing... romantic about this" your voice was weak but firm, refusing to even meet hotch's eyes.
"shut up" the man had gripped you, ignoring the protest your team were calling. it felt like too much, he held your chin and you look at him, it was now or never. you had to escape, you had to be free.
you had to survive
with one swift move, all your strength goes in knocking him down. he tumbles to the table, breaking the rotting wood with ease. the instruments clatter and you get up, hissing when your abdomen stretched a little. looking down, you see your body littered with blood and bruises. a huge burn mark plastering your side as the dress ripped apart but you didn't have time to feel sorry for yourself when you hear voices crying out that he was attacking again
"in front, y/n!!" derek commands and you duck, making him fall into the table. you quickly grabbing the keys from the scattered objects on the floor, jamming it into the lock and twiddling until you felt a click. the metal loosens and you feel them slipping off, eternally grateful that for once the universe was on your side.
you didn't get time to react for when you look in front, he's there again. but your leg connects with his groin, remembering the training moves you were taught. the force of the kick was enough to paralyse him for a few minutes as he screamed. you looked around, quickly trying to find some keys to unlock the door. your freedom was close, you could practically taste it as you rushed around.
and then you had made the biggest mistake of looking into the camera for a second.
in that second you catch a glimpse of hotch's face, it completely startles you. as if the world had stilled for a fleeting moment and all you see is hotch, just looking at you with so many emotions it's hard to decipher which is the most dominant. how despite everything, you want to hug him and never let go. your body inbetween his arms and your head against his heart, protected against any and all bad in this world. and then you remember the heartache he's caused you, the moment that had led up to you getting captured and every memory is a dagger to your heart. how could things have gotten so wrong?
but it was that moment that was used to the unsub's advantage
you hear screams echoing in the room but you don't comprehend until you feel a burning sensation completely puncture your abdomen. gasping, you look down to see blood gathering at your feet and dripping down your legs and before you even look back up, the object breaks the skin a second time. as if it was all in slow motion, your teams watched the horrific steps play out like a twisted play.
"i told you not to mess with me, you stupid bitch!" he grips and twists the object once more, resulting in a breathless gasp leaving your lips. the pain felt intense, a throbbing sensation overtaking you as you collapse. the horrible sound of your skin being punctures all but echoes in hotch's head, unable to do anything but to scream your name. shocked screams echo in the bau room, penelope's fingers are furiously typing away as she squeezes her eyes, unable to stop the horrible penetrative sound of your skin being stabbed in her mind.
the pain grows worse by the second and your scream dies on your lips, eyes fluttering closed ready to accept and await the darkness that overtakes your consciousness.
"nonono.... no!!!" hotch could barely manage a whisper, banging the screen as if he could magically appear to your aide. but he was simply doomed to watch you as you suffer and collaspe to the ground, breathing quickening. this couldn't be, this couldn't be the end.
you can see him and painfully you turn to watch his face. you don't know what emotions has crossed over his features, he still looks as beautiful as he did the first day you had set eyes upon him. how lucky you were to experience what it was like to be kissed by such a man, to be able to be in the presence of such a wonderful person. your tears had blurred your vision, not out of pain but out of gratitude. even laying on this cold floor, bleeding out, you were purely thankful for him.
he had protected you before and now it was your turn, this way he could focus on his wife and child. you would never be in the way again. there's a hint of the softest smile upon your lips as your eyes close. your fists loosened, limbs becoming limp as you closed your eyes, allowing the darkness to fully encapsulate your mind and body. maybe in a different world, a lighter one, you and hotch could be together against all odds.
the screen fizzles into a black page and hotch barely lets a breath out he didn't think he was holding. his hands have gripped the chairs, he didn't trust himself to stand without the support. he could feel his eyes prickling with the tears as hard as he tried to disguise them, his world was falling apart at the seams and he couldn't do a thing to fix it. all he wants is to be with you but now he didn't even know if you were alive anymore, that thoughts sends him further spiralling in his despair. he wanted nothing more than the ground to completely swallow him whole, the lump in his throat growing bigger as his team members looks at him. partly with concern, fear and pure sadness.
the room was completely silent, everyone's faces covered with a look of pure sorrow and so much anguish.
penelope's tears won't stop trickling down her cheeks. emily and jj look at each other with helplessness, their tears shining underneath the lights. morgan and reid lean against the table their hearts thundering in their chest, completely unable to process what had just taken place while rossi sits by a chair his head in his hands at the pure shock and pain running through him.
"it-it didn't look that terrible, she could still.... be alive" against his better judgement reid offers his support softly. the crushing weight of your absence completely crumbling hotch in a way they've never seen before.
"she was stabbed twice, reid. don't be so naive to think she could've possibly survived that alongside with the beating he had delivered. you above all, should know that much" his voice was harsher than he intended, heavy as the lump in his throat grew bigger. it felt like the air was being cut off, his thoughts ricocheting across from one another as his knees give way and he crashes to the floor in pure defeat and torture. he could faintly feel someone come to his help, his name being called but his mouth refuses to answer. all he can think about, all his mind is replaying is the moment before you closed your eyes. how he wasn't there to help you, how he couldn't rescue you this time.
you could've still been there with them had he been to your aid just 60 seconds earlier. if he had chased you quickly, you wouldn't be beaten and bruised within an inch of your life and now you were... gone. his heart felt like it was being twisted painfully, gripped tight as the thought of never hearing your laugh and seeing your smile became permanent. the dam had broken and the tears spilled down his face, his hands clutching the carpet but to no avail.
what we he supposed to do now, haunting by the memory of you like this? what was he supposed to do haunted with the ghost of you?

Christmas party: Aaron Hotchner x reader
Tumblr media
christmas bingo day 2 : christmas party
***
Third annual BAU Christmas party was supposed to be the most important thus far.
Partially because Y/N could not attend previous two, due to her shot injury in year one and some family matters in year two.
But the other reason why it was so crucial, was that she was going to go with Hotch. And not just as BAU colleagues and team mates.
No.
They were going as couple, though Hotch with his reserved persona and everything that happened in his love life before, was fairly reluctant to use this tag to describe them.
And Y/N understood this perfectly.
But Hotch’s harshness and skin deep coldness was not going to take away her excitement and holiday spirit.
Especially not after the little shopping spree with Emily, JJ and Penelope.
Y/N found just the right dress, fitting her body like a glove and was trying it one once again in the peacefulness of the house spinning around in front of the mirror, admiring how good it lied down, when a single sound of throat clearing threw her back to reality.
„Haley is sick.” Hotch said as if that was explaining everything. He had his signature unreadable expression and slight frown on the face, but for a second even the chief of the BAU couldn’t cover the tiniest glint in his eyes as he noticed Y/N’s new purchase.
„Hm. Okay....” she muttered in response. She really didn’t like it when Aaron mentioned his ex-wife. „Thanks for the information, but I think you missed steps 1-5 of why does this concern me.”
Maybe it was a bit heartless and cruel of her to say it, but truly no one could blame her for getting a bit possessive and jealous. After all, Haley was the woman he had a son with - oh wait, a son. All of a sudden she realised what this was about and looked at Hotch with poorly hidden disappointment in her eyes.
„I have to take care of Jack.” he just said and she filled in the rest.
They were not going to go.
She opened her mouth and closed them almost instantly. There were so many ideas in her head of how to remedy this sudden emergency. Jack’s grandparents, who would most definitely love to have the little boy over for a few hours. A babysitter. A night kindergarten. Or maybe they could left Jack sleeping through the night hoping he would not wake? Besides, was Hayley really so sick that she couldn’t have her son around her? Maybe she was just doing this on purpose cause she wanted Hotch back in her life, despite being the one to divorce him? There must have been a way for Aaron to still attend the banquet...
 And that’s when it hit her.
She was being a terrible person having thoughts like that.
Jack was just a little boy, not a bargaining chip. And trying to come up with a plan to get rid of him (in some way,even if just temporarily) was straightforward cruel and completely heartless. Honestly, at this point Y/N was ashamed of herself and of putting her own needs and wishes to show off as couple before standing by Hotch’s side.
„Y/N.” he said again with that deep, calm voice letting her know that he already analised her behaviour and face expression enough to know what was going on in her head.
„I’m sorry...” she muttered
„I can’t go the Christmas party.” he stated
„Oh, cause you wanted to attend it so much, right?” she rolled her eyes and chuckled causing him to lift the right corner of his mouth.
„But you wanted to.”
„Doesn’t matter.” she shook her head „three time’s the charm, maybe next year I’ll have more luck to actually get drunk and make a scene legitimately.”
„Y/N. You can still go by -”
„Nope.  Not a word Hotch. Not going without you. We’re a team remember. Not just as work. Not leaving you. Besides, I got a feeling it’s time for me to properly meet your son, don’t you think?”
***
Hotch didn’t say a word of objection and even though he never showed it, he was melting (inside) watching Y/N playing with Jack next to the Christmas tree. They were both splayed on the warm blanket on the floor, their happy faced illuminated by the Christmas light making them look like home. And when they both fell asleep on the couch, Jack holding onto Y/N with his little fingers wrapped around her midsection Hotch was pretty convinced that no fancy party could be better than this view in front of his eyes,

ngl i would genuinely get off to making haley jealous and angry because of how fucking easy it is. my personal hc here but i think she was controlling and thought she had hotch wrapped around her finger and it infuriated her that his job was the only thing he refused to listen to her about. i also think she tried to baby trap him with jack in the assumption that would "fix" their marriage and when it only made it worse she blamed aaron for never being home when she easily couldve hired a nanny or regular babysitter so she could work or do whatever. i believe she cheated bc of that one phone call to their house when hotch answered and it was a random man asking for haley before hanging up and the look hotch gave her like yeah he knew she was fucking around too. i think it made her even angrier that when she filed for divorce hotch didnt even fight her onit! didnt ask to work things out or for counseling or anything. just "okay ill sign the papers when i get back from this case"
now assuming reader is mid twenties i think your very existence would have her enraged. aaron seems happier and even healthier. hes got more color in his face, hes put on some healthy weight, he smiles and laughs now, he takes more time off work, his life has clearly significantly improve since she left him and she cant fucking stand it. she thought she was the best thing that ever happened to him and now shes seeing in real time she's actually the worst thing ♥️♥️
and you thinks its funny as hell to watch a 40 year old woman with a whole ass kid be that bent out of fucking shape because the man SHE LEFT is fine without her. like yes maam i am younger than you, hotter than you, nicer than you AND i can ride the dick just right. stay pressed bitch 💕. and when she tries interfering in your relationship hotch asks you to put up with it just for a bit because he knows hack is still adjusting to coparenting and he wants the best for his son so you let him handle his exwife until she crosses a line and tries to accuse you of some shit and aaron finally puts his foot down and haley cant believe that shes really lost complete control over aaron (haha fuck you haley)
like i fantasize about a situation where haley is trying SOOOO hard to break yall up and drive a wedge between you two and it isnt until jacks birthday or some big family function aaron brought you too and haley cant help it but lowkey stalk yall all night and so youre like "aaron watch this" and you drag him off to some secluded corner and hes like ??? but you tell him "hold on baby give it a minute. bet you anything haley pops up" and then once you hear footsteps you give aaron a big fat smooch and surprise surprise!! whos coming around the corner? why its haleys stalker ass following you two like a creep!
i literally just want to cuck haleys pathetic ass because fuck her and her scraggly blonde hair and that nappy ass wig she had on in witness protection with her no-style-no-personality-all-about-me havin ass 😒😒😒😒
sorry this is such a convoluted mess i just hate that lady 😭😭
I NEEDN'T SAY MORE THIS IS EXACTLY MY THOTS I WANT THAT WOMAN SEEEETHING AT THE SIGHT OF AARON BEING HAPPY AND THRIVING. SHE WOULD ABSOLUTELY BE THE CRAZY EX WHO PROBABLY ENDS UP HARASSING YOU.
The SECOND she says smth nasty abt you Aaron is soooooo fucking pissed. She insults you saying you're just a whore sleeping with Aaron for his money (and cuz us babes are plus-size queens she HATES THAT) and that Aaron is not attracted to you.
And Aaron OOF he takes her to one side and tells her she is fucking nothing but the mother of his child now. That YOU are his everything. YOU make him the man he is now. He's fucking happy with you as the love of his life and that Haley made him chronically stressed and depressed and almost completely ruined his self esteem. He warns her to back the fuck off from him and reader. He does not want any communication with her unless it's to do with Jack. End of.

Girl!Dad Hotch threatening his daughter’s date??
hello, hey! i considered here that reader is hotch's daughter's mother and not the daughter itself. i hope you like it s2 (yes, i got a bit carried away here)
Requests are open! ✨
Aaron never believed himself to be the jealous kind of parent.
When Haley got pregnant with Jack, they discussed what kind of parents they'd be to him. Haley, having been raised in a family in which familiar relationships were cherished and encouraged, believed she'd be a kind, loving mother; always the one to cheer their baby up in times of need, which would automatically make her the good cop.
Aaron, on the other hand, always believed he'd be the "hangman" — the one responsible for putting things back into place, the one to give restricted looks and tell Jack that having candy before bed was a no-go.
In his mind, there was just no way he'd be a jealous parent, just because it didn't suit him.
That is, until his little girl started to date. And at that specific moment, Aaron went to hell and back very quickly.
Jack had been the first to know, mostly because he had seen it happening. Him and Mauve were only a few years apart, and the fact they studied at the same school didn't left much room for his big sister to keep a secret from him; and after a very heated discussion between the two of them, Jack had "let escape" Mauve's secret, believing that no one was at home to hear what he had to say.
You had been. And then you were the second to know.
Mauve was an absolute mess as she told you everything about the boy she was dating, how he was lovely and everything she had always dreamed about, but everything Aaron would despise. He was the quarterback (which was honestly a surprise, considering everyone knew Mauve was a nerd, just like Aaron had been), and the whole school knew him as a womanizer; still, he was different with Mauve — sweet, friendly, respectful.
She had begged you to keep it a secret, promising she'd be the one to tell Aaron when the time came. And, since Mauve never broke a promise, she did.
It just happened to be on her prom day.
She had been mysterious about who'd be her date, and you knew Aaron believed firmly she and Jack would go together. The fact that Jack hadn't brought a pair up yet only confirmed Aaron's beliefs, and honestly, you knew he was psyching himself into not noticing how meticulously Mauve had chosen the dress, speaking about matching her pair's tie (and then picking a tie that in nothing matched Jack's), how she had been singing out loud while in the bath (songs that talked about young love, and proms, and dancing with someone you love) and, the ultimate clue, how she forced Aaron into teaching her how to waltz since she didn't want to step on her partner's feet (and Mauve certainly wouldn't give a damn about stepping into Jack's feet).
At some point, you just gave up hoping he'd notice before prom night. You were just dying to see his reaction to the news.
It happened quicker than you thought, though.
Mauve had been ready for the past hour, sitting anxiously at the couch beside Aaron, fidgeting with her thumb — the same tell Aaron had — as the two of them watched a rerun of Hawaii Five-0, Aaron making small comments about how stupid their methods were, and how no one would do something like that in real life, as Mauve giggled nervously, placing a rebel strand of hair behind her ear whenever she heard a car passing outside.
When the doorbell finally rang, Mauve was the first to stand from the couch, immediately intertwining her fingers as she looked at your image making your way from the kitchen (where you had already poured a whiskey glass to offer Aaron once they were gone), Jack's stomps on the stairs loud as he ran to see whether it was his partner or yours.
"Are your friends joining you tonight?" Aaron asked, looking up at Mauve, his brows furrowed in confusion as he looked between the door and his younger daughter.
"Cassie is my pair tonight” Jack revealed as you opened up the door, revealing Cassandra — Cassie, for short — in a beautiful blue dress. You knew that dress because you and Mauve had went out with her to buy it only a few weeks before that day, and she had picked it to match Jack’s tie.
But Aaron hadn’t gone with you — he had gone with Jack to buy his corsage. A corsage that happened to be green, like Mauve’s dress.
It was green because it matched Cassie’s eyes.
"Come in, Cassie" you smiled politely at your daughter's best friend, ushering her inside as Jack finished moving down the stairs, a dumbfounded smile plastered all over his face as he showed her the corsage he bought.
"Thank you, dear" Cassie smiled, observing the corsage lovingly before looking up at Aaron, waving softly at him, "Hi, Uncle Hotch!".
And while in a usual day Aaron would have greeted Cassie with a smile, the only thing he could do was stare at Mauve, his face even more confused, jaw dropped.
"If Jack's going with Cassie..." he pointed between Jack and Cassandra, his eyes widening at the minute, "Who are you-".
As if on cue, the doorbell rang once again, all the eyes turning immediately to the door. Maybe you should've opened the door, maybe Mauve should've started speaking non-stop in order to distract her father, but no one moved as Aaron strode towards the door, opening it up in a swift movement, his features closed off as he faced the man on the other side of the door.
"Hello, Mr. Hotchner! I'm Louis, Mauve's date!".
You admired Louis' courage.
"Date?" Aaron raised one brow, turning slowly to face Mauve — that had moved all the way to the door, standing beside you with worried eyes, "I didn't know about any date".
Louis seemed to deflate at the reveal, his eyes looking past Aaron's shoulders and also meeting Mauve's eyes, "You didn't?".
"No" Aaron replied immediately, crossing his arms over his chest, "Mauve?".
"I..." Mauve pouted, fidgeting with her hands, "I wanted to tell you, Daddy, but I knew you'd be like this. So Jack found out and Mom, too, and everyone kept asking questions and, and... I thought you'd notice by yourself. You're a profiler!".
"She's not wrong" you commented, "I mean, she did give a lot of signs".
"Signs are not the message!" Aaron replied, completely turning to face Mauve, Louis suddenly forgotten at the door, his eyes going from Aaron to his pair for the night, "Why you didn't tell me, Mauve?".
"Because you'd be upset. You always tell me 'you won't date until you're 30, Mauve' and 'you're my baby girl and no one will ever deserve you' and I got so worried that you wouldn't approve Louis!" Mauve sniffled, clearly on the verge of tears, but trying to keep them hidden for the sake of her perfectly made makeup, "I'm sorry, Daddy! I just... I like him so much!".
Louis seemed to have regained his courage, clearing his throat and straightening his jersey (yes, he was wearing the school's soccer team's jersey, just like any popular quarterback would) and touching Aaron's shoulder respectfully, "And I like Mauve to, uh..." he dropped his hand when Aaron looked madly over his shoulder, having suddenly turn his gaze into the Unit Chief look, "Mr. Hotchner, sir".
You chuckled at Louis' stutter — you'd like the boy.
"I promise we can talk about it after the prom, and I'll tell you everything," Mauve said lowly, holding Aaron's hand, "But can I go with Louis, please Daddy? Please".
Aaron knew he would go with whatever Mauve asked at the moment she pouted, her voice embargoed and eyes on verge of tears, but a part of him didn't want to let her go. Because, in his jealous father head, allowing her to walk outside their house with that Louis (he grimaced at the thought of the other guy) would mean you were growing up, that you weren't his little Mauve anymore, and the thought hurt like hell.
"I want you and your brother home by midnight" Aaron stated, his voice holding no space for negotiations — you can't negotiate with the negotiator, after all, "And Cassie and..." he scoffed, "Louis are invited to dinner tomorrow".
Cassie smiled broadly, clinging at Jack's arms immediately at the invitation, "If Uncle Hotch's cooking, I'm in!".
You snorted, "Yeah, that's why you're coming over" you commented under your breath, looking with a smile how whipped Jack looked as he stared intently at Cassandra.
"Thank you for the invite, Mr. Hotchner" Louis replied with a sided, but still frightened, smile, "I'll be here".
Aaron nodded, finally turning to face Louis, "Now let me be clear, young boy..." he took a step towards Louis, placing his right hand on the boy's shoulder. It would've looked like a friendly gesture if it wasn't for the squeeze he gave — not too much to hurt him, Aaron definitely wasn't that kind of man, but enough to make his point clear, "You touch my daughter in an inappropriate way, your break her heart or you pretty much think about any of those things, and I'll have you on juvie in no time. Are we understood?".
Louis gulped, a nervous smile on his face as he looked between the four people behind Aaron, his eyes lingering on Mauve for a bit longer, "He can't do this, can he?".
"Oh, I can" Aaron squeezed his shoulder once more, forcing the younger boy to look at him, "And I will. Was I clear?".
"As crystal" Louis nodded nervously.
“Good” Aaron replied, letting go of Louis shoulder, “Have fun, you kids”.
None of them waited one more minute before moving out the door, and you couldn’t stop but smile when Mauve held Aaron’s hand, kissing his cheeks sweetly before muttering a reverent, “Thank you” on his ear.
You both watched as they moved towards the limo, and you beamed proudly as you intertwined your arm with Aaron’s as you waved them goodbye, the loud song they were hearing making the vehicle tremble only slightly before it left.
“I’m proud of you” you whispered, kissing the skin of Aaron’s neck softly, “Even if you threatened him to death”.
Aaron’s smile was strangled, painful. And the fact that he found it in himself to be dramatic at that moment (or at least you thought he was playing dramatic) only made you smile more.
“I need a drink” he mumbled desperately, “I really need a drink. I think I need to get drunk”.
You laughed, shaking your head as you guided him towards the kitchen, “Come on, old man. Let’s get you a drink”.
Thank you for the request ✨

2. Meeting Dick Grayson
SUMMERY:Ok, so this is how you met Dick and a bit of time after he moves in and becomes Robin.
WARNINGS: Obviously, the death of the Graysons, though I won't go into much detail. And some fluff I gues. Oh, and sorry this took so long. I've just been so busy.

--------------------------------------------
Y/N P.O.V
I was really excited. Tonight Bruce was taking me to the circus that was in town. I was  so excited because I had always loved the circus, ever since I was a kid. That was probably why Bruce had decided that a trip to the circus would be fun.
--------------------------------------------
That night, a little boys' world shattered in front of his eyes.
We watched horrified as The Flying Graysons, the acrobats of the circus, fell to their deaths as their 7 year old son watched from the platform of the trapeeze. I looked up at the little boy on the platform.
After the tent had been cleared out and everybody had left, Bruce and I went over to where Commissioner Gordon was talking to the owner of the circus, Mr. Haley.
The commissioner looked over at us and smiled as we approached the duo. Mr Haley looked at us as we came to stand beside them.
"Mr Haley, this is Bruce and Y/N Wayne. Bruce, Y/N, this is the owner of the circus Jack Haley." He said.
"It's nice to meet you, Mr Haley. Jim, what is going to happen to the little boy?" I aked the Commissiner.
"His name is Richard, and he will most likely go to an orphanage here in Gotham." He said sadly.
I looked over at Bruce, who had a thoughtful look  on his face.
"What if we adopt him?" Bruce finally spoke, looking at me.
I smiled and nodded.
"I think that's a brilliant idea, my love. That way, we can promise Mr Haley that he will be well looked after and he will not go to an orphanage." I said with a soft smile.
"I'm afraid they have already taken him." Jim said regretfully, and I looked at Bruce to see that he looked angry.
Soon we left as well and went home to get all the paperwork done.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We finally got all the paperwork done and were  out. All the orphanages were full, so little Richard was sent to the Juvinile Detention Center, and man were Bruce, and I positively  PISSED. We made sure that everybody that was involved with Richard's case knew that both of us were not happy at how this little boy, who had just lost everything and was the cutest and sweetest little thing, was treated.
The car ride home was quiet, but as soon as we got home, I couldn't help but giggle at the way the little boys' eyes widened at the sight of his new home. Even Bruce chuckled.
I was the one who showed him his new room, and he looked around with wide eyes as he took everything in. His eyes finally landed on me where I had stayed in the doorway as Bruce joined me.
"This is all for me?" He asked in disbelief as he stared at us.
"Yes, Chum, this is all for you." Bruce chuckled.
Suddenly, we were almost knocked over by the 7 year old practically throwing himself at us in a hug. We laughed and hugged the little boy tightly.
The next few weeks go by fast, cases coming straight after the other. JJ is finally back with the team permanently, as a profiler in training. You’ve been going over to Hotch’s apartment at least once to twice a week. Spending time with Jack and Aaron. Teaching both of them how to bake, or having a movie night.
 After Jack was in bed you would stay and talk with Hotch, telling him about your special interest and how you decided you want to be a profiler. Hotch enjoyed hearing you talk, watching as your face light up as you rumbled about the latest book you have just read. His heart always warms up the most when he watches you and Jack having fun, laughing while you try to teach his son how to bake.
~~~
One Friday evening, the team had just gotten back to the office after being away for 6 days on a serial killer case. It took awhile to hunt the unsub down, but thanks to Garcia, who managed to find his cabin in the woods. You're now sitting alone at your desk, getting some paperwork done. The rest of the team had already left, everyone looking forward to their own beds for the night. Yawning softly as you grab another file to do, yeah you feel exhausted but you hate the idea of going home to an empty apartment tonight. So having decided that the best thing to do is to keep yourself distracted with paperwork. It is now well after 11pm, when Hotch walks out of his office and notices you're still filling out files. Oh how he wishes he could say he's surprised to see you still here, but he's not. You remind him too much of himself, after Haley's death. Distracting yourself from the pain with work.
~~~
“You're still here” His voice making you jump easily, being to use to the silence of the office. Lifting your head sheepishly, locking eyes with Aaron as he stands in front of you, holding his bag with some files tucked under his arm. He stares down at you with a stern, disappointed look in his eye.
“Oh yeah, figured I would get some paperwork done, while it's still fresh in my mind” Looking up at him, you’re exhausted but your mind still seems to be running, all on its own.
“It's late, you can do it tomorrow, come on I'll give you a ride home” Hotch smiles gently, watching you.
“Nah it's alright, I'm wide awake, I'll just catch a cab home, I'm all good here Hotch” Smiling lightly, as you try to stiff back a yawn.
“(Y/n) come on, get up, I'm not leaving you here” Hotch gives you his sternest of looks, earning a low groan from you.
“There's no point in arguing with you, is there Aaron?” Your groan turns into a small laugh.
“Nope” Smirking as he picks up your bag beside you, and walks towards the doors without another word. After grabbing some of your files, you follow behind him.
~~~
As he drives you home, you're staring out the window zoning out. Getting lost inside your own mind, not hearing him call your name. A hand on your lap, pulls you out of your daydream, turning to look at him.
“You alright (Y/n/n), you've been quiet” He glances at you, concerned. Leaving his hand on your thigh.
“Oh I'm fine” Forcing out a small smile, his eyebrow raises slightly as he looks at you questionably. You sigh quietly looking back out the window again, wondering if it's time to open up a little.
“Okay I'm not fine, I'm struggling, this case took a lot out of me” You admit, not having the energy to keep hiding your emotions from him.
“You want to talk about it?” His voice is soft and caring, making you smile softly. His voice has always made you feel at home.
“Not really, but I don't want to be alone tonight” Sighing lightly, resting your head on the window.
“My place then, I’ll pick us up something for dinner.”
~~~
You're sitting on his couch, waiting for him to return back. After he walks Jessica down to her car, thanking her for looking after Jack. You're searching through his DVDs looking for a movie to watch, deciding on a random one just as he walks back in. Joining you on the couch, passing you your food.
“Find something yet?” He smiles as he starts eating.
“I just put something random on” Exhaling tiredly, as you start eating.
Letting the movie fill the room of noise as you two eat, making small talk about the case and Jack. Soon the movie just becomes background noise.
“Aaron, can I ask you something?” Looking at him softly, putting your food down, his eyes change slightly, turning his attention to you.
“You can ask me anything (Y/N)”
“You would tell me if I wasn't doing my job well right, just lately I've felt like my profiling has been off, like I feel like I’m just not doing it right” Looking at him nervously. He is your boss, he would tell you if you're doing a bad job, right?
“(Y/n) you have been doing so well, you're doing great work, is this why you were distracted earlier?” His face fills with concern and confusion. The last couple weeks you had done better than most of the team. Putting things together faster and talking with the victims' families amazingly, he thought. He knew you struggled talking to victims and their family, but this week you had gone up and beyond. That's why he couldn't understand why you are worrying about your work effort.
~~~~
“Are you sure? like I know I kind of went downhill after Emily's” Your voice drifting off feeling emotional, looking back at him. “I know my skills have been off, I know when we’re on a case I look at things different to the rest of us, maybe I'm doing it wrong. Sometimes I wonder if what I'm doing is even helping anyone” Swallowing thickly as you watch Aaron's reaction as you finally confess what's been bugging you lately. His face drops slightly, he never realised that's how you felt. He starts to wonder if those thoughts you're having were placed there by himself. He did tell you a few weeks back, that your skills were slipping, but that was only because you were getting too close to the truth, he never meant it at all.
“(Y/N) you are an important part of the team, yes you view things differently from the team, and that's one of the main reasons I hired you years ago, having someone who views things differently, helps us see something we might miss, otherwise there would have been plenty of times we would've missed something important, you have saved us from making many big mistake on cases, you have saved a lot of people from being hurt, you make a big difference to those people lifes. You are needed on this team (Y/N)” His voice stays firm, keeping direct eye contact. Hoping his words will be able to get you to see how important you are to the team, to him.
Smiling weakly, allowing his words to sink in, nodding gently.
“Thanks Aar, sometimes I just second guess myself and wonder if it's all worth it, you know?” Your voice sounding relieved, needing his confirmation that you were doing okay.
“I understand it, I second guess my actions sometime, too” His smile makes you relax more, smiling back at him, turning your attention back to the movie. Aaron watches you softly, taking in how attractive you look, smiling faintly as he turns back to the movie.
~~~
Half way through the movie you move yourself, so you're half laying down, resting your head on his shoulder. Your legs stretch out on the couch, smiling as his arm wraps around you, automatically. It wasn't uncommon for you to end up cuddling with him while watching a movie. You two first started cuddling while watching a kids spooky movie with Jack. You were acting scared to make Jack laugh which resulted in Hotch teased you saying he would keep you safe as he jokily pulled you into his arms. Where you stayed for the rest of the movie. Now you two seem to cuddle every time you're watching a movie. Aaron has quickly become one of your closet friends in the last few weeks. When you hang out with him outside of work, he feels completely different to your boss.
~~~
You end up falling asleep on his shoulder, looking peaceful. He didn't want to disturb you, but knowing how uncomfortable the couch is and that the bed would be more comfortable for you both to sleep in. Shaking you carefully, calling out your name, watching as your eyes flutter open slowly searching for him.
“Shoot I fell asleep, I'm sorry, I should get going” Yawning softly, your eyes closing again, on the edge of sleep. Your eyes flutter open once more at the sound of his laugh.
“Come on sleepy, let's get you to bed” Aaron smiling softly, as he stands, pulling you up with him. Nodding slowly as you allow him to lead you, half asleep to his bed. He helps you get in, before he gets inside the bathroom to change, he notices your back asleep. Smiling feeling at peace as he watches you for a couple seconds. Enjoying seeing you sleep so peacefully, you need your rest after the hard week you have just had.
~~~
Waking up gradually, yawning as your eyes open, smiling softly, as your eyes landed on Aaron who seems to be in a deep sleep. Rolling over on to your side, checking the time, 7am, meaning Jack would be getting up soon. Getting up carefully, avoiding making too much sound. Not wanting to wake Aaron up, knowing he never gets enough sleep. Closing the bedroom door as you walk into the living room, seeing Jack on the couch in his pyjamas, watching cartoons, he looks up with a grin breaking across his face.
“(Y/n) your here” His energy bouncing around in his voice.
“That I am Jacky” Laughing softly. Wondering how someone could have so much energy so early in the weekend. You sit down beside him on the couch, turning to him.
“Have you had a good week?” Joy filling you up, as he climbs onto your lap. Snuggling down in your lap, his head resting against your arms.
“It was amazing, at school we went on a field trip to the zoo” His little face smiling up at you excited.
“Oh yeah, what was your favourite animal?” Smiling softly, running your hand through his hair gently. Listening to him as he rambles on about his favourite animals, telling you in extreme details. Earning a few soft laughs from you as he exaggerates, on how a Hippo tried to eat him and his friends. You're so distracted talking with Jack, that you never notice Aaron walking out, taking a couple photos of you and Jack. Putting his phone away, hiding the evidence before making himself known.
“Well what's going on in here?”
“Daddy” Jack calls out, jumping off you running towards him. Aaron bends down bringing him into a huge hug.
“Hey buddy, how are you?” Aaron dad's voice coming out, full of joy. Warming up your heart, smiling softly as you watch them, lovingly.
~~~
The morning moves by quickly, getting ready for Jack's soccer game, which he begged you to come and watch. Of course you have to agree, making the little boy's face brighten up even more. When you all arrive at the soccer field, the sky starts filling with clouds, bringing a dump feel to the air. You’re standing on the sidelines with the other parents, cheering on the team. Hotch and Rossi are coaching the little kids who don't seem to be listening to what they are being told. Making you laugh as you see the cute little frustrated look on Aaron's face. By the time the game is ending, it's drizzling lightly, the kids all run back over to their parents. That's when you notice Jack running over to you, a smile covering his face.
“That was a great game, Jack” Giving him a huge high five.
“Did you see that goal I got” His face beaming up at you, as Aaron and Rossi make their way over.
“I did buddy, I think you could be a famous player one day” Smiling brightly, as you meet Aaron's eyes. “You two did pretty good too, got a couple cute videos of you two running around”
“You better delete those” Rossi scoffs, shaking his head at you.
“Oh no way, I think the team would love to see these” Smirking smugly as he walks away to talk to a couple parents. Turning your attention to Aaron, who's drinking some water, his neck tilting backwards. Your eyes get stuck staring at his Adam apple as he swallows, your cheeks start to burn as you realise what you're doing. Swiftly moving your gaze away before you're caught.
~~~
As Aaron finishes up talking to some parents, you're chatting away with Jack as you both wait.
“Can you stay over again tonight (Y/N) please, we can watch movies all night” Jack begs you, still full of energy. You always wonder how kids can have so much energy running through their veins.
“Nah buddy I can’t stay tonight, I think I need my own comfy bed tonight” Looking up as you see Rossi walking over an unknown twinkle in his eyes.
“Why is daddy's bed not comfortable, I thought you liked his bed” A small pout was playing on his lips. Your face heats up slightly, as Rossi's signature smirk slides on, his eyebrows rising.
“Jack, are you saying (Y/N) has slept in your dad's bed?”
“Yeah they did last night” Jack answer obliviously, turning around to look at Dave.
“Not really, I mean” Exhaling deeply trying to think of what you could say to get Rossi smirk gone, but before you could come up with anything Aaron walks over.
“Okay, are we all set to go?” Aaron smiles, picking up the bag of soccer balls beside them.
“Almost, I just have a quick question for you Aaron?” Rossi smirks, turning to face Aaron, who's looking at him confused. Wondering as to why Dave looks so smug, and why you seem to be hiding your face from him.
“Nope, no no you don't, Rossi” Shaking your head as Jack just looks between the adults, not understanding at all what's going on.
“What am I missing here?” Aaron looks at you for some clue.
“Why did I not know that you two liked sharing beds, while off-cases huh?” Rossi wiggles his eyebrow, hinting at something. Making Hotch huff his cheeks which are tinted with some pink.
“They fell asleep at my place, I was being nice Dave” Aaron clears his throat slightly. Lucky for him, his phone dings with a text, allowing him to change subject. As they all walk back towards the cars.
~~~
“Oh hey (Y/n) are you free today to look after Jack for me, my brother’s in town and wants to catch up for lunch” Aaron asks, as he reads his phone, avoiding the look Rossi is giving him.
“Yeah Aaron that's fine, as long as you're back by 5, I have plans tonight” Biting your lip, trying to stop your smile from growing.
“Plans huh? Drinking with Garcia?” Rossi questions, letting the other topic finally drop off.
“Nope actually, my ex is in town, and we’re going to grab a couple of drinks tonight, maybe then we will see how the night goes by” Smiling softly. Not catching the annoyed look that appears briefly on Aaron's face. Rossi sees it, and can’t help but smirk even more at it.
“Thanks, I shouldn’t be out too late today”
“That works then” Smiling, turning your attention to Jack. “So what should we do today then Jackster, what to do some baking?”
“Yesss Can we also get some ice cream?” He looks up at you giving you his best puppy dog eyes, making you laugh.
“If you can beat me to the car, I'll buy you Ice cream” Smirking at him as he shoots off running. Laughing happily, as you chase quickly after him. Staying close behind him, leaving the other two behind.
~~~
“So You and (Y/N) huh, how long have you two been ‘sharing beds’ for?” Rossi snickers, glancing at Aaron. Who couldn't stop the smile spreading over his face as he watches you chase after his son.
“They fell asleep at my place a couple of times nothing has happened Dave” Shaking his head at his friend. You two are just friends, nothing more than that. Aaron keeps repeating in his head, trying to convince himself.
“And why not, why haven't you made a move yet?” Daves words, throwing him off. Making him go red, lost for words.
“I am their boss, that is inappropriate, also I do not have feelings for them”
“I never said anything about feelings, you two could always just have ‘fun’ ” Dave smirks, noticing Aaron cheeks grow redder. “For a profiler Aaron, you are not good at hiding how you feel, It's clear you think their attractive”
“Dave drop it, Me and (Y/n) are friends, only friends” Aaron sighs, his words coming out harshly, making the smug look on Dave's face even larger.
“For now, see you at work Aaron” Chuckling as he walks past Hotch's car, towards his own.
~~~
You're looking out the window as Jack rambles on about the game. Glancing over at Aaron who is clutching the steering wheel tightly. The concern you have for him is growing larger, waiting to get back to his place so you can find out what the issue is. Wondering if it's to do with his brother, you haven't met him before. But from the stories you have heard, he sounds like he can be a handful. Your older brother continuously gets in trouble with the law, so you can understand how difficult families can be. You keep glancing at Aaron all the way back to his place.
~~~
While Jack is having a Shower, you're helping Aaron in the kitchen, making sandwiches for lunch.
“Okay Aaron what's up with you?” Sighing looking up at him, having enough of his silence.
“Nothing” Shrugging his shoulders up at you, as he opens the fridge putting away the food, huffing as he turns back around. Being met with your arms crossed, staring at him with your face that just reads that you weren't putting up with any of his nonsense today.
“Want to try that again?” Raising your eyebrow, study him closely, as he tensen slightly, not meeting your eyes. “It's your brother isn't it? you're worried about him”
“You're not supposed to be profiling me” He smiles lightly, trying to get out of answering your question. Because yes he's a little worried about his brother, but mostly he just can't get the idea of you going out with your ex tonight, out of his head.
“It's not profiling, when it's written across your face, I thought you were better at hiding things” Teasing him gently, wanting him to feel comfortable opening up to you.
“I'm only bad at hiding when I'm around people I feel safe with” Shaking his head, an amused smile on his face, relaxing. As you move out of his way, wiping down the bench as he watches you.
“So want to talk about it then?” Glancing over at him, as he finishes putting the sandwiches together.
“It's just, my brother can bring trouble with him, doesn’t matter if he means to or not” He sighs faintly, resting against the counter, facing you. “I love him, he's my brother, but I started giving up on him after he didn't even reach out after Haley” His words fading away, gazing at the wall, gulping slightly, as he allows himself to open up.
“I get that it can bring back some unwanted emotions, but remember you are allowed to feel it, okay?” Smiling tenderly at him, earning a small force smile back.
“Thank you (Y/n), sometimes I just want him to be around, for Jack, so he can get to know him better, but, I can’t trust him around Jack today, not until I know if he's still clean off drugs” Aaron huffs out, feeling tired of it all, “Just want him to get his act together you know?”
“I get it, I have an older brother, who likes to get in trouble, but, Just remember Aaron, it's not your responsibility to take everything he does okay, you are allowed to set boundaries with him” Speaking carefully, wanting to comfort him as much as you can.
“You have a way with words, did you know that?” Aaron sends you a warm smile from him, his eyes meeting yours, filled with love and hope in his eyes.
“Oh I do, that's probably why you hired me” Laughing softly, bumping your shoulder with his.
~~~
Aaron had already left by the time you and Jack were finally having lunch. You like spending time with Jack, getting to know him better. Spending time with him made you feel like you were learning a different side of Aaron. Seeing small glimpses of him in Jack, always makes your heart flutter.
“So Jackster, do you still want to do some baking today” Smiling as you see his face bright up.
“Yessss!” He exclaims, grinning brightly, making you laugh happily. “Can we make cookies?”
“Of course we can, and we make them in weird shapes, if you likes”
“Ohh can we do dinosaurs?” His eyes lit up even more.
“Of course we will do dinosaurs, I'm no monster” Giggling, your heart melting at how Jack's little smile is so similar to Aarons.
~~~
“Look (Y/n) it's a T-rex” Jack cries out with joy as he shows you the cookies he has just cut out.
“Woah Jack that's amazing, look my one is a brachiosaurus”
“WOW, Its neck is huge!” Making you laugh along with him, cutting out more shapes, looking up as you hear the front door open. Watching Aaron walk in, his face lights up when he spots you.
“What's going on here?” His voice is full of delight, as he walks over.
“Daddy, look we are making dinosaur cookies” Jack giggles, pointing at them happily.
“Woah buddies these look amazing” Laughing as he looks down seeing Jack squishing them together to fit on the tray. “Carefully you don't want to squish them” Aaron smiles as he pulls out another tray, helping Jack move them over, he glances over at you, catching you staring at him.
“What?” He smiles happily at you.
“Nothing, you two are just adorable” Giggling softly, your heart beating faster as he chuckles at you.
“I am not adorable, take that back”
“Or what are you going to do Aaron?” Smirking taunting him.
“Or I’ll do this” Smirking evilly, as he leans over wiping some dough on your nose, making you gasp dramatically.
“Hotchner!”
“Ohhh Daddys in trouble” Jack giggles, watching as you pick up some dough.
“You are right Jack, daddy is in big trouble” Smirking, stepping closer to Aaron, who's laugh is bombing around the kitchen. As he backs away from you, moving Jack to be in between you both.
“Oh no you don’t Aaron” Laughing as you step to go around Jack. You're just about to reach him when you lose your balance, slipping on the cookie dough that's ended up on the floor. Aarons reflexes are quick, his arms shooting out instantly wrapping around you. Making the position look similar to something in a movie. His face being the only thing you can focus on, his smirk growing wide as you blush slightly.
“Think I just fell for you Hotchner” Laughing softly, your breath still stuck in your throat, your heart racing due to being this close to Aaron. He helps steady you on your feet, his hands still resting on your waist.
“I think you just did (Y/L)” His chuckle is light as air. As he goes to pull away, you grab his arm pulling him in closer. Leaning up a giant smile breaking over your face as you finally manage to smear the cookie dough over his cheek. Laughing as you pull away from him, his shocked face turning into a smirking grin. Jack giggles loudly as you high five him, declaring victory.
~~~
Once the cookies are finally in the oven, Jack runs off to watch tv leaving you and Aaron to clean up the mess.
“So how was lunch?” Glancing over at him, while you're washing the dishes, he dries.
“It was alright, I think he has change, he still smokes but that's it” He sighs quietly, “But other than that, he seems to be doing okay, he has a job at a restaurant in New York, hes happy”
“Well if he's happy that's the main thing right?” Placing a bowl down glancing at him, as he gives you a smile.
“You always focus on the positives, don't you?”
“If you don’t, then the world is just filled with sadness, and there's way too much of that around” Smirking as you meet his gaze.
“You are wise aren't you, doll?” The new pet name makes you blush lightly.
“That I am”
~~~
Once you two have finished the dishes, Aaron turns around to you.
“Are you staying for movie night?” His body looking relaxed and happy, and the idea of laying on the couch with your two boys is hard to decline. But you shake the idea of cancelling your date, out of your head.
“Not tonight, I'm going to catch up with my ex tonight, remember?”
“Oh right, um why are you seeing your ex? Aren't they an ex for a reason?” His face drops a little, looking at you sternly, making you smirk slightly.
“What, you jealous Aaron?” Wiggling your eyebrows laughing, he shakes his head at you, an unreadable look on his face. “Well he's an ex from 4 years ago, we broke up due to the job, we only dated for about 5 months plus he was my friend before hand, so we keep in touch” Smiling slightly, “Plus I haven't had anytime for guys later if you know what I mean” Winking smoothly at him, which sends him to go red and silent, making you laugh even harder.
“You always have to make things dirty, (Y/n)”
“Oh If I don’t it gets too boring” Giggling silently as he walks over to Jack. His mind was running with the idea that you hadn’t had sex in awhile, because you had been hanging out with him almost every time there hasn’t been a case. Jealousy running through his veins at the idea of you going out tonight, just to get laid even though he was right there. He tries clearing his mind of wanting to pleasure you instead of you going to your ex. Knowing that he can never act on these thoughts.
Title: The Fool
Characters: Aaron Hotchner, Haley Hotchner, oc female character.
Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x oc female character
Summary: What happens when you run into your boyfriends ex wife on a date? Should you really go confront her about how she’s messing with his feelings before you talk to your boyfriend?
Word count: 1,391
Authors note: Okay, so I was inspired by another song for this one, as usual. I’m still running with the whole Haley cheated on Aaron theory, at least for this story. I wrote this quickly and barely edited it, so I had no beta and all spelling and grammar mistakes are mine. I borrow the song lyrics from the song that inspired me: ‘The fool,’ by Lee Ann Womack. I don’t own the song. Tagging @sadgirlzluvdilfs
Warnings: slight angst, some fluff, mentions of cheating.
It was a rare Friday night off, no new cases, nothing urgent, so Aaron had picked me up for a date. I'd slipped into his favorite dress of mine, a gorgeous green sundress with tiny white flowers scattered across the fabric. The hem hits my thighs, and with my dark curls left loose around my face, pulled back a flowery clip, my honey-brown eyes sparkle as he leads me into the nice restaurant.
It's also a night he doesn't have Jack, so I already know he's gonna take me back to his place, which will be nice, a rare night sleeping with him. We order our drinks and as we sit, someone from the FBI notices Aaron as they walk by. He gives me an apologetic look as he gets pulled into some shop talk, and I stand up, letting him know I'm heading to the bathroom while he talks.
On my way back from the bathroom, I pass through the bar area and spy her. Haley. Aaron's ex is there, a new man on her arm. One of many, anyway. She throws her head back and giggles and flirts and my heart and mind have their internal battle. I only know her from pictures I've seen of her in Aaron's apartment, pictures he keeps because Jack's in them.
Aaron and I have been dating for a few months now. He's a handsome man, reserved to those who don't know him, but his love of musicals and his warmth drew me in. Along with those big brown eyes of his. He keeps telling me it's not the right time to meet Haley yet. He's barely a year out of his divorce, sure, and I know enough to know it wasn't a good one.
You don't know me, but I know who you are. Mind if I sit down?
I know I shouldn't approach her, but I can't help it, tapping her on the shoulder, as her date goes to the bathroom. She turns to face me, her eyes landing on mine. I take a deep breath and introduce myself. She shakes my hand, her voice hesitant. "Alice, right, you're dating my husband, if memory serves." She says, and I can't help but clear my throat. "Ex-husband."
My words fall into silence, and she glances around me. "Where is Aaron?" I can hear the want in her tone, and the excitement as she fixes her hair. "He's at our table, still," I say and I watch her noticeably deflate at my words. "Can I buy you a drink?" I ask her, and she nods. She offers me the chair to her date has vacated, and I buy her and myself a drink.
If you've got a minute, I'll buy you a drink, I've got something to say...
The bartender brings it to us, and she eyes me as she sips it, her eyes narrowing as she takes in my outfit. We make pointless small talk about Jack and the weather before she says, "What do you have to say to me, Alice?" I swallow down my drink and meet her eyes. "You're leading Aaron on."
She doesn't say anything to me. She doesn't deny it. She just flicks her blonde hair back, her eyes meeting mine. "So? He was mine first." I nod, meeting her eyes. "I'm not disputing that. But as much as he's trying to move on, you're making it hard for him. What, is he supposed to pine over you forever, while you go on dates?" I ask her, setting my glass down, my honey-brown eyes meeting hers.
I'm the fool, in love with the fool, who's still in love with you...
I sigh. "Haley. You divorced Aaron. I can't pretend to know why, since Aaron won't tell me, but I can guess. Sure, he says his job had a hand in it. The late nights, the missed anniversaries, the long periods away. But I know that's not all of it." I said, my words falling into silence.
I know she knows what I'm getting at when she takes a sip of her drink and sighs. "What's your point, Alice? If I want to flirt with him I will." She says, and I sigh. "You cheated on him, Haley. He may think I don't know, but I do. I can see it. I don't have to be a profiler to see how you hurt him."
She stays silent, waving her hand for me to continue. "I see it. It's in the way he holds me closer when men approach me when we're out together. It's in the way he freezes when I get a text message or a phone call. It's in the way he's constantly checking in on me, making sure I know how much he cares about me. Sending me small things. You hurt that man, and you expect to just keep him on string, forever?"
I know love, is a fragile thing. And I'm trying hard to make it last. But it ain't easy, holding onto my dreams when he's holding onto the past...
She sighs. "It's not fair, Haley, and you know it. I love Aaron. He means the world to me but he won't take that step and tell me he loves me, even if he feels it. You don't love him, that's a fact. I've seen you around. But you hold Aaron's heart in the palm of your hand, and it's breaking right in two."
Just one more thing, before I go. I'm not here to put you down...
I see a sort of guilt on her face, as I finish my drink, unaware of Aaron, standing behind me, his eyes moving between me and Haley as I pour my heart and soul out. "You say that you're moving on, that you're in love with someone else. It's cruel to tease Aaron that way, holding the promise of your love in front of his face when you don't mean it. He doesn't deserve that. No one does. Let him move on. Let him be happy, for crying out loud. We both know no one deserves that more than he does."
Haley speaks, for the first time since I started speaking seriously to her. "I know." It's just two words, but I don't attribute it to the fact that Aaron's standing behind me. "I know you love him, Alice. And you're right. It's cruel. Especially when you consider what I did to him. He didn't deserve that."
I nod. It's not a lot, but it's something. "I should go. Aaron's probably wondering where I am." She nods. "See you around, Alice. Oh, and good luck."
I turn around and there he is, looking at me. For a second, I wonder how much he heard. He says nothing to me, just pulls me close, and wraps his big strong arms around me. I can smell the cologne he's wearing as he holds me, his voice a whisper in my ear. "I love you, Alice."
I look up at him, pulling back. "I love you too, Aaron." I know he's heard everything when his hands cup my face, as he stares down at me like I'm the most precious thing in his world. "So much, you don't even realize it." He says, his voice is husky and soft. "I'm not holding onto the past, Alice. I'm looking forward to my future, to our future."
His words make me tear up a little, and he wipes a tear that slips down my face. "Now, let's go have dinner, I wanna take my favorite girl back to my place and show her just how much she means to me." I lean up and kiss him, my lips soft and warm on his, as his large hands hold me close.
He guides me back to the table, and as we walk out, I see Haley at the bar with her date. She's still flirting, still giggling, but as her eyes meet mine, I see a sort of understanding flash through her eyes. She nods, holding her drink up as she spots my small hand entwined with Aaron's. She doesn't acknowledge Aaron standing beside me, just smiles, and turns her attention back to her date.
I'm the fool, in love with the fool, who's no longer in love with you...
warnings - reader is mentally ill (BPD), death, graphic mentions of violence, mentions of past character deaths, angst, self harm, drug abuse
word count - 2k
a/n - remember this thing i started but never finished lol
read part 1 here
Hotch remembered the day you'd stopped calling him 'daddy' like it was yesterday. You were 10, and he'd just dropped your little brother off at Jessica's, since he was sick and Hotch was working that day. You'd found it unfair that Jack didn't have to go to school, but you did.
"You ready for school?" He asked you. You smiled and nodded at your dad, grabbing your backpack from the backseat and pulling it onto your lap. Hotch had grabbed it before he left the front door, since you were busy arguing about why it wasn't fair that Jack got the day off while you didn't.
"Yeah dad," You said, not thinking anything of the phrase. Hotch furrowed his eyebrows at the words you'd said, unsure if he heard you correctly.
He felt like he was short circuiting, you didn't call him dad, you still called him daddy. Hotch wasn't opposed to the idea of you still calling him by the title he'd earned since you could say the word, he remembered the nights of you crying out for him when you were sick and wanted to sleep with him and Haley, the nights were Haley couldn't get you to go to sleep because you'd want to wait up for him coming home from work, despite it being hours past your bedtime.And all those memories came from the call of one name.
"Dad? Since when do you call me dad?" Hotch finally said, after what felt like hours of silence. You looked at your dad as you shrugged, your bottom lip sticking out as you shook your head.
"I guess daddy's for babies," You said. Hotch nodded as he watched you get out of the car, a slight pain in his heart at the thought of his oldest child, barely ten-years-old thinking that the title he'd coined from you all those years ago was for babies. It felt as though that now he'd have to store those memories of you crying out for him, and running to greet him coming home from work.
"Bye dad!" You yelled.
"Have a good day, Y/N," Hotch said, smiling at you as you ran to your friends. He let out a sigh as he shook his head. "Gonna need her to stop growing up for a little bit." He mumbled to himself, almost sadly as he felt as though you were growing up almost too quickly.
— You let out a painful cough as you fell to your knees, pain panging in your chest as you had no choice but to breath in the deadly poison in your lungs. The two women in front of you, Lisa and Maria as you'd learned their names, stopped and turned back to help you up, much to the dismay of the other man in your group. He wasn't the biggest fan of you, but who could blame him? He'd just woken up in some old house with 4 people he didn't know, and he'd just witnessed ones gruesome death.
"I-I'm fine," You stuttered, heaving out as you stood on shaky legs.  Lisa and Maria nodded as they let you go and stand up onto your feet, stumbling forwards. Your chest aching with excruciating pain every time you took a breath , Lisa looked at you with extreme concern. You shook your head firmly, letting out a sigh. "I'm fine, really." You said confidently, the two other girls nodding wearily, the man just wishing you'd hurry up and bite the dust.
"Wait, what's this?" Maria kicked part of the rug in the hallway away, revealing what appeared to be a hatch in the floor. You were leaning against the wall, your breathing shaky as you tried to focus on whatever was going on around you. You still had no idea where you were, and how you'd even got here. The last thing you remembered was leaving the BAU to head home, and then as you went to walk down the shortcut that took you home, you were stuck in the neck with something and you hit the floor.
And that was when you woke up in house with four strangers, one of which was dead, another wished you to be, and the other two yet to make their minds up.
Lisa and Maria had started bickering about what the door was for and where it led to, while you were busy trying to remain conscious enough to be able to even begin to hope that your dad was going to find you. You, Lisa and Maria all screamed, watching as Lisa's legs fell through the door, a wire wrapping around them painfully tight.
"Grab the tape, down there!" Maria yelled, trying her hardest to stop Lisa screaming. It wasn't working, so you were the one to make the careful move to grab the tape player, your shaky hands almost dropping it a few times. You pressed play.
"Hello, Y/N, welcome to your game. Playing the way I expected you all to, Simon should be dead, and left should be yourself, Lisa, Marie and James. To you, these people are nothing but strangers, but to your father, well, I'd hope your father would know them, he put them in prison during his time as the DA," You looked up, seeing each pair of eyes on you. "This is now your game of survival, Y/N Hotchner, win it, and you will live. Well, if you survive the gas that is currently destroying your body." The tape ended.
"You're dead fuckin' meat, girlie."
"Has Garcia managed to track where the house is yet?"
Hotch's voice cut through the thick tension in the office, his eyes still trained on the computer screen in front of him. Something about this all felt off, that there was something we wasn't seeing but knew it was there.
"She's still trying," Derek told him. Although masking it, he could tell Hotch was angry - furious. He had only ever seen him in such a state of anger once before - the day George Foyet had killed his ex wife, Haley. He turned to Ben Rogers, the man thought to be responsible for your disappearance. "Where are they?" He just grinned at Derek. Hotch started to panic as he saw you being backed into a corner by the others you were trapped with, fear evident in your eyes. You were by no means a sheltered child, but you were still that - a child. He was waiting for this to really set in for you, for you to finally react to your situation.
your recent BPD diagnosis could make or break your survival chances. You'd either burst into tears and beg and plead for your life, or you'd get angry and violent. Hotch had known something was wrong with you, it started with self harm, putting cigarettes out on your arms just to check if you could still feel, then came the suicide threats. You had never attempted to end your life, they were empty threats you made when all of your emotions became too intense for you to handle. Then it was the drugs stint. You found yourself dependent on your antidepressants, taking more than the suggested dosage just to numb the everyday pain you had became accustomed to. It was all clicking into place for hotch; mood swings. paranoia. drug abuse. self harm. the raw, intense anger you sometimes felt and directed towards him.  Your therapist had attributed the diagnosis as a result of your moms murder and your lack of proper , healthy, coping mechanisms. hotch knew you blamed him for your moms death, you never admitted it but he could tell, and he didn't blame you for feeling that way. He woke up every day wishing she was still here, that she could come and calm you down during your manic episodes because she was just that great of a mom to you - he often thought if you'd be this way if she was still here, wondered if you'd be happy.
Hotch realised he had zoned out, lost in thought over you. He listened to the audio relay.
"... I'd hope your father would know them, he put them in prison during his time as the DA. This is now your game of survival, Y/N Hotchner, win it, and you will live. Well, if you survive the gas that is currently destroying your body."
Hotch looked up at the computer screen and watched as everyone turned to look at you and away from the women with her legs trapped. He watched as you backed yourself into a corner, fear evident on your features as tears made your eyes glassy. He hoped that they would see that this wasn't your doing, that he was the one that put them into prison and not you, that you were still a child. But as the male of the group delivered a strong punch to your head, he could tell they didn't share the same sentiment that he did.
--
You regretted arguing with your dad now. You regretted running away from your problems as you often did, instead of confronting them as you knew you should have - but you didn't. You let your emotions get the better of you and you exploded and ran away. And here you were now, on the ground, dizzy and concussed after being knocked to ground with a solid punch to head from a man bigger and taller than your dad. You heard the continuous screaming of the women in the background with the wire around her legs, getting tighter and tighter.
And suddenly it stopped.
You pushed yourself up and limped over to the women, finding her legless and sitting in shock. The other woman and the man who had punched you lifted her away, she started babbling about her son, who she had to get back home to. Guilt flooded you in a huge wave, and you broke down into tears. All eyes turned to you.
"What the fuck are you crying for? Huh?" He stomped towards you, shoving you into the wall and making you hit your head off of it.
"I-I'm sorry," You stuttered out, slightly slurring your words as the concussion started to kick in from both the punch to the head and now this. You started coughing as you slumped to the floor, feeling tired and heavy. He let you go and went back over to the women, only one who was now living, the other having bled out. Right  now, you would have welcomed death with open arms, to just fall asleep and not wake up. But you couldn't leave your dad. You didn't want him to have to deal with your death as he had your mom's, it wouldn't be fair. It wouldn't be fair to him to have to explain to Jack that you wouldn't be coming home, that it was different from all of the times you had run away, you wouldn't be back this time. The thought of your little brother made you tear up, you wanted to protect him and keep him safe from more pain and trauma than the world had already suffered at such a young age. He didn't deserve it, you didn't think that anyone did. You coughed again as you felt something get stuck in your throat, and you saw it to be blood.
Fuck.
How it had been three months already, you did not know. Time seemed to stand still when you were with him. Just the two of you, enjoying life like you were supposed to be. And even though you’d been opposed to the idea of taking time off from the job, you knew now, that this truly had been the best thing for you to do. For the both of you.
Working was such a distant thought in the back of your head, so unfamiliar and far away, yet it was like riding a bike. Once you got back into the swing of things, you’d be able to do your job like before, like you’d always done. You would be you again. A better version of yourself perhaps.
You shuffled through the apartment, his apartment, yours now too. It was crazy how only a few months ago, this place was unfamiliar a strange thought in the back of your head. And now it was a home, your home.
The bright early morning light tumbled through the large windows, like a river in the unknown wilderness. You smiled, knowing how dark and gloomy his apartment had been before you, how dark your own had been. And now, everything was filled with bright gleeful light and colors.
Not much had been taken from your apartment, except for a few pieces of furniture in better condition than his and some knickknacks to decorate with. The pictures of the team around his home had been exchanged for photos of the two of you on one of your many adventures together.
A selfie from your first trip together, it had been to the Niagara Falls, a place none of you had seen before. It had been magical, to say the least. The massive waterfall’s whooshing water, the lavish charming nature surrounding it, almost making you forget about the tall skyscrapers behind you and the rustling sound of the city continuing its day without the two of you.
A kiss under the moonlit skies on a chilly evening. Penelope had captured that one at Rossi’s wedding to Krystall. Both dressed up for the occasion, you looked better than you’d ever done or felt before. All the pictures from that day had been filled with joy. And it was no secret to anyone who viewed specifically the pictures snapped of you, that the two of you truly had been meant for each other, that without the company of the other, you would’ve been lost.
The only pictures that had gotten to stay in the apartment after you moved it was two picture frames placed on either side of the mantle. One of Jack and one of Haley. Everyone would’ve told you that it was a red flag, that such pictures shouldn’t be kept up with a new woman in the house. But you didn’t care. You understood what they had meant to him, the pain he had felt when losing them. You didn’t want to take their memory away from him. You knew that Aaron missed Haley, that he missed Jack, but that didn’t mean that he loved you any less. That you loved him any less.
“Hi, honey. What’ya thinking about?” Aaron crept up behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist and nosing at the crook of your neck. His black hair was untamed as he had just woken, only having dragged himself out of bed to solve the mystery of your disappearance.
You smiled and let your head tip to the side to rest against his, while one of your arms moved behind you to hold him too.
“Just about us, about our life. About how much has happened these past couple of months, how much I love you.” Your words were soft-spoken and quiet. No need to speak any louder when the world hadn’t woken up when it was just the two of you together. And that was when he knew when everything finally clicked into place and it made sense to him.
You had spent most of the day doing the last few hobbies you could get pressed into your day, read the last few chapters of your book before it would be placed back on the shelf and forgotten about. Watched the last few episodes of a show you had started, with the intention to finish this time. You had enjoyed your last day of freedom. Tomorrow you went back to work and the constant workload that never gave any time to rest in between cases.
Aaron too had been busy, more productive than you to be true. There was something so domestic about seeing him iron his button-up and suit for tomorrow, like a housewife from the 50s. You had giggled to yourself as you had passed the open door to the bedroom on your way to take a shower. He never failed to surprise you with his little hidden quirks and goofy personality. Something that you had never before thought the man be capable of.
“I know it’s late notice, but I was wondering if you’d like to go stargazing tonight?” He asked while cleaning up the dishes after dinner, nightfall had slowly crept up on you. The sky was clear, the moon bright, and the stars easily spotted.
“I’ll always go stargazing with you.” You smiled, remembering that night in the hills, remembering the day he had asked you to move in with him. Everything was just perfect when it was just the two of you under the starry night sky.
You were curled against Aaron’s chest on the blanket you’d brought to the park with you. It was pitch black, the only light coming from the moon and lighting up the spot under the willow tree that you had taken up with your bodies.
You laid for what felt like hours, pointing out different constellations and stars that you knew the names of, telling each other the stories behind each little dot on the sky. Your conversations soon ventured out further into the universe, talking about the planets, about wormholes, and supernovas. All things so farfetched that it fell under the Reid jurisdiction.
“Will you marry me?” Aaron suddenly blurted out after a moment's silence shared between the two of you. You were surprised by his words, uncurling yourself from his frame and pushing yourself up into a sitting position. Aaron too sat up.
“What?” You giggled a bit, trying to comprehend what he had just asked you if he was serious or not.
“I had this whole speech planned, this whole ceremonial getting down on one knee and proposing like a real gentleman would, but I just… I know that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. And want to call you mine for good (Y/N). It’s okay if you don’t want to, I get it, but I just can’t hold back anymore. I want you. I only ever want you.” Aaron’s whole body was tensed up with nerves running through every crevice and corner of his being.
You stayed silent. Not really thinking it over, you were stunned, hadn’t expected anything like this to happen to you. Never had you actually thought that you would find someone and get married. Find someone that you actually wanted to tie the knot with.
“I… Yes!” You broke, throwing yourself into his arms as you let the tears fall from your eyes. Aaron too couldn’t hold back the tears as he wrapped his arms around you tightly. You buried your head against his neck, trying your hardest to control your sobs of happiness.
“Hey.” Aaron giggled with a tear rolling down his cheek as you pulled away from each other.
“Hey yourself.” You wiped your eyes with the back of your hand, trying to compose yourself.
“I got you this.” Aaron pulled out a small box from his pocket, popping it open to reveal the most beautiful, yet simple engagement ring you’d ever seen, in many ways it reminded you of the one you had had as Amy, but this was so much better.
“I love it.” You let him put it on your finger. A perfect fit.
Tumblr media
“Would you look at that big rock!” The girls fawned as you walked through the doors to the bullpen. Your fingers were locked with his, unknowingly showing off the beautiful clear diamond to everyone who dared look in your direction.
“Ohh! When did it happen!” JJ was eager to know, almost pulling you away from Aaron as she hurled you in the direction of the girls.
“Last night.” You smiled, knowing that a welcome back Penelope party and a Rossi party of the same caliber would both be exchanged for congratulation celebrations instead.
In the distance you could hear the boys surrounding Aaron, hauling him down with questions, atta boys, and rough pats on the back as they hugged each other.
Deep down you’d known that the team would all go crazy once they found out, but this was not what you’d imagined. You loved them so much and were glad that they were the firsts to know. Over the years they’d become your family, more so than your real one. Without them, you had no clue where you would’ve been today. Surely you wouldn’t have been engaged. You wouldn’t have known what real love felt like. What friendships, that weren’t clouded by judgment or popularity would’ve felt like. You would’ve never gotten to live your life the way that it was intended to be lived.
And you were just glad that from now on you got to spend it with the man that you loved.
The Way Home - Chapter 17
A fresh start. That’s what she needed. Not the turn of a page, or a new chapter, but a brand new book.
She left everything behind, and just hoped that she had better things ahead.
A Hotchniss College AU
Words: 2.9k
Warnings: This chapter contains canon-typical violence, stalking and assault.
Full list of warnings and previous chapters can be found on the Series Master List
Read over on Ao3, or below the cut
She sleeps fitfully throughout the night.
The nightmares that had plagued her for over a year refreshed. New scenes playing through her head like a poor remake, the original almost losing its shine. Aaron wakes up every time she does, his arms wrapped around her the only thing that lets her feel like she can heave breath into her lungs. The fear almost felt absurd at this point. The fear that Ian would come back for them almost choking her.
He was just a man. A selfish, obsessive man who wouldn’t let her go. His insistence on ruining her life disguised as revenge. Misplaced anger for her over his own actions that tore his life apart, leading her to have to make the decision he seemed incapable of, or unwilling to do.
Ian wouldn’t let her go, so she would have to let Aaron go. Let him move on with his life without her and the baggage that came along with her.
She finally wakes sometime in the late afternoon. They’d had a day curled up in his bed, Aaron carrying on with studying next to her as she caught up on the sleep that had been stolen from her in the night. Every time she had drifted in and out of sleep he had been there, his hand buried in her hair, or gently running up and down her back as she dozed.
When she wakes this time, she is alone. The sheets next to her still held some warmth, so she knew he’d stayed with her as he’d promised.
He’d never broken a promise to her.
Emily stretches as she climbs out of bed, wincing slightly as the movement pulls on her wrist, an ache spreading from under the temporary cast. She pulls on one of Aaron’s sweaters over her pyjamas and heads towards the living room.
“Haley,” she hears Aaron sigh, pacing as he comes into view, one hand holding the phone to his ear, the other pinching the bridge of his nose, “I’m done talking about this, it’s none of your business.”
Emily can hear the woman on the other end of the phone, her words muffled but her anger clear. Emily is sure she hears her name mentioned on the other end, any headway she had made in making friends with Haley clearly reversed in whatever conversation had taken place before she’d woken up.
Aaron looks up at Emily, a soft smile thrown her way as he acknowledges her presence. The bruising on his face, purple skin around his eye and spreading down his cheek, makes her heart seize in her chest. Guilt spreads through her veins, icy and overpowering. It makes a shiver run through her, and she wraps her arms around herself and pulls his sweater tighter around her. Desperate to find some comfort in it.
“Haley,” Aaron says, firmer this time as he gets the other woman’s attention, “bring Jack at the usual time, it’s only a couple of hours away, and we’ll talk then. I just wanted to give you the heads up.”
Emily stays a few paces away from him, quiet as he says goodbye to his ex, and places the phone back down on its stand. Frustration leaks from his body as he looks up at Emily, as if she was the balm to all his wounds, the thing that made him whole.
“How are you doing?” Aaron asks as he walks towards her, wrapping his arms tightly around her, pulling her into the hug that provides the comfort she’d been missing since she’d woken up.
“I feel better for sleeping for so long,” she mumbles into his chest, shifting back to look up at him. She cups his cheek with her good hand, her thumb delicate over his damaged skin, “How about you?”
“I’m fine sweetheart,” he says, smiling down at her before he leans in and kisses her forehead. She opens her mouth to ask him about Haley, about the conversation she had walked in on the tail end of, but he interrupts her, clearly aware of what she was about to ask, “Food?”
She stares at him for a moment, her eyes boring into his, before she bites her lip and nods, “Yeah, that would be good.”
He kisses her, his lips pressed against hers in a way that was familiar to them both now, but no less captivating than it had been that first time. Standing in the rain outside his professor's house, convinced that things were already as complicated as they could be.
He pulls away, his hand on her jaw to keep her in place, “Pancakes?” He offers, a smile on his face, “I know it’s basically dinner time, but I did promise you.”
“Sounds good,” She nods, the sadness of her smile lost as he kisses her before he pulls away.
She settles onto the couch as he cooks for her, and she chastises herself for ever believing that this, that he, was something she could have forever.
___
Emily puts it off, the conversation she knew she had to have with him rolling around in her head, practising her lines over and over.
She lets herself have a couple more hours with him, her head in his lap as they watch TV together, laying in the comfortable silence she hadn’t known existed before him but had somehow also been missing her entire life.
She wasn’t a romantic, she knew this wouldn’t be her only chance at a relationship. That once she was over the pain of losing him, somewhere down the line there would be someone else. Someone else that made her stomach flip, even if it wasn’t quite the same. Someone else that occupied all of her thoughts, even if their smile wasn’t burned into her brain, carved into her brain like the dimple in his cheek.
Emily hoped that, in the future, she’d look back on this and realise what it was. The first relationship she’d truly experienced love in. That Aaron had taught her to trust people again, his unwavering kindness something she would have been wary of before, but something she would seek out now. Forever hoping for a taste of him.
She looks up at him, and all those thoughts fade away. Nausea sweeps through her as she asks herself if this really was it. If she was about to throw away her best chance at happiness. If she was really going to let Ian win.
Then Aaron looks down at her, the bruise on his face coming into view again, and it makes up her mind.
“Are you ok?” He asks, his hand stopping its motion in her hair. She doesn’t know how to formulate an answer, so she shrugs at him from his lap. Aaron smiles, a sad thing that tugs at her heart, “They’ll find him, sweetheart.” Her eyebrows furrow together and she sits up sharply, the mention of Ian, the first since she’d walked out of Aaron’s bathroom, feeling like ice water as it washes over her. “Em-”
“What were you and Haley talking about earlier?” She asks, the question she’d been holding back finally breaking free. She meets his eyes and sees how he freezes.
He’s been avoiding the topic too, both of them acting like she hadn’t walked out to find him arguing with his ex-girlfriend.
“It’s not important.” He replies, his tone implying the conversation was over before it truly started, and it makes her scoff. She stands up, her arms folded over her chest as she starts to pace.
“Aaron, it is important,” she says incredulously, turning to look at him, “especially if you are arguing with your ex, the mother of your child, about me.” She watches as he sighs, his eyes closing as he blows it out, centring himself before he looks at her again. “Please tell me.”
Aaron stands up, clearing his throat as he does so, choosing his words carefully. He stops a few steps away from her, aware of the tension rolling off of her, how touching her right now would be the worst thing he could do.
“I called her to let her know about what happened last night,” he explains, and her eyes widen, the thought of it making her breath catch in her throat. “I had to, Em,” he says, an attempt to reassure her that falls short, “I didn’t want her to see my eye at the same time as Jack and have no warning, this way she can explain it to him as best as she can before she gets here.”
It’s a reasonable explanation and she knows that, another example of him being the excellent father she already knew he was, but it still hurts. The irrational side of her that she pushes down tells her it’s a betrayal, and that he’s going to have to have explained more than that. That he’ll have told Haley who Ian is, a key part of the explanation that he won’t have been able to leave out even if he’d tried.
She wonders if it solidifies what she’s sure Haley already thinks of her. A homewrecker that went from family to family, leaving damage in her wake. The logical part of her brain that is screaming at her that Aaron and Haley were over long before she bumped into him in the hallway all those months ago, and that Haley was a kind woman, are drowned out. Whispers in her mind overwhelmed by all the worst-case scenarios that flood through her, the worst things she’s ever thought about herself, about Aaron, screaming at her.
“What else was said?” She asks, looking down at the floor to avoid his gaze.
“Em-”
“What else was said?” She half-shouts, her temper rising in a way she knows isn’t fair, fear and sadness overwhelming her. “I heard my name Aaron, I know I won’t have come off well in whatever version of the story you told her. So what else was said?”
He steps towards her and grabs her hand, linking their fingers together in a way that makes her look at him, and the love she sees in his eyes is enough to destroy her.
“Em, none of this is your fault,” he says, the same words he had repeated to her countless times since she’d first told him about Ian. Back when she was still lying to herself about what Aaron meant to her, when he was just her friend. It makes her chuckle wryly, no humour to the noise as it catches in her chest.
“I know you think that, and I lo-” she catches herself before she says it, pulls the confession back before it slips free, “what did she say?”
Aaron sighs, and squeezes her hand, “She was concerned.” He looks at her, before clearing his throat. “And she said I need to think about my priorities,” a tear finally falls down her cheek as she looks down, her concerns confirmed, “and I told her that was none of her business, whatever happens between you and me has nothing to do with her.”
“She’s the mother of your child, Aaron,” she says, “She’s always going to have something to do with us.”
“Haley will be fine, sweetheart,” he assures her, a desperation to his tone that she doesn’t miss, and she knows he understands where this is going, “She’s always been like this, she reacts and then thinks about it afterwards. You know I’d never do anything to endanger Jack.”
“I know,” she replies, her voice cracking, “I know that, and neither would I so…” she drifts off, swallowing thickly as she steps back from him, her hand slipping from his, “I think I should go, and I think we should…” a sound escapes her that sounds like something caught between a laugh and a sob, “I think we should stop.”
His eyebrows furrow, his jaw set in a firm line as he looks at her. “Stop?”
She wipes at her cheek as she takes a step away from him, heading towards the door to pull on her sneakers as she carries on speaking, knowing she needed to put space between them.
“Yeah, stop. Break up. Whatever you want to call it,” she says, her voice breaking despite her words, her resistance to it clear, “I can’t keep putting you in this situation Aaron, and Ian isn’t going to go away.”
She stands up straight when her shoes are on and she can feel him behind her, barely any space between them. Before she can say anything else his hand is on her shoulder, turning her to face him. He cups her face in both his hands, holding her in place. She closes her eyes so she doesn’t have to look at him, the tears shining in his eyes enough to shatter her completely.
“Emily,” he says desperately, his forehead pressing into hers, “we can figure this out,” he clears his throat, “I love you.”
She sobs, the words lancing at her, fierce and sharp in a way she could have never predicted. She places her hands on his wrists, opening her eyes to look at him.
“I know you do,” she replies, her lower lip trembling, “I love you too,” she swallows thickly, “and that’s why I’m doing this.”
She kisses him, leans forward and presses her lips to his before she tears away from him, opening the door and out of the apartment before he can say anything else.
She unlocks her door, slamming it behind her as the silence of her apartment washes over her. She covers her face with her hands and sobs, the sound loud as it echoes around the empty space. She takes a deep breath and looks around, spotting the light on her phone flashing, indicating she had a message. She blows out a shaky breath and walks over to it, pressing the button as she wipes her cheeks.
“Emily,” Her mother’s voice echoes through the speaker phone, immediately making Emily’s body tense, “I got a call saying you were in the hospital last night. Call me-”
Emily groans in frustration, anger at her mother for putting her in this position, and for getting involved in the situation with Ian overtaking her. She grabs the phone and throws it across the room, getting some satisfaction when it slams into the floor, breaking as it hits the hardwood.
“I can’t be here.” She says to herself, unsure where she could go other than across the hall, and she turns back around, needing to be anywhere other than here.
She heads back out of the apartment, and almost immediately bumps into Aaron, who was standing in the hallway, clearly ready to knock on her door.
“Em-”
 “Aaron, please,” she says, locking the door and walking past him, “I need to get some air,” he opens his mouth to offer to go with her, and she carries on, “Alone.”
She takes the stairs, the ache in her legs as she reaches the ground floor pleasant, a different kind of burn to the one in her chest, something she welcomed.
As she exits the building she walks straight into Haley and Jack, the other woman looking shocked to see her, Emily’s distress obvious. They awkwardly stand on the sidewalk, staring at each other.
“Emily!” Jack yells, his innocence the comfort it always was to her as he hugs her legs.
“Hey Jack,” she replies, leaning down to hug him, holding him tightly, “You excited to see your dad?”
Jack nods enthusiastically, and she reaches out to adjust his coat, the zipper slightly crooked, and Jack frowns at her. It makes him look so much like Aaron that it makes her ache, the same confusion on his face that she had seen only minutes before in his apartment.
“Are you hurt?” He asks, pointing at her wrist, gently touching the soft cast, and Emily looks up at Haley, their eyes briefly meeting.
“It’s ok, just a little sore,” she replies, kissing his forehead, “You have fun with your dad, ok?”
“You not coming?” He asks, and it takes everything in her not to cry in front of him, and she simply shakes her head.
“Not this time, Jack.” She smiles as she stands, “I’ll see you soon though, ok?” She promises, unsure if she was lying to him or not. She smiles tightly at Haley before she moves to walk past them.
“Emily-” Haley starts, turning to look at her, and Emily shakes her head.
“It’s fine, Haley.” She replies, clearing her throat, “It’s all fine.”
She walks off, idly thinking of going to the 24-hour cafe down the road and getting a coffee, wondering if she could get hold of Penelope, go round to hers and get drunk whilst wearing Aaron’s clothes and crying about the break-up she knew neither of them wanted.
She doesn’t get far.
She feels someone grab her sprained wrist, pulling her from her path as she’s crowded against a wall. Her wrist is slammed into the wall of the apartment building, and she thinks she hears it shatter, pain spreading through her arm immediately. She tries to get free and she can’t, her body freezing as she smells the familiar cologne, the smell of smoke that seemed to follow him everywhere.
Ian’s face is inches from hers, his breath skipping across her face as his other hand wraps tightly around her neck, cutting off her cry for help. Her free hand automatically tries to pull at his, scratching at her own skin with her nails.
“Hi love,” he sneers, his grip on her throat tightening, “I think we have some things to talk about.”
Route 66 || Aaron Hotchner x Male Reader
A/n: This is my first ever fic, so please do leave a comment! I do suggest reading this with one of those Y/n changers, the ones that make it your name. Other than that I hope you enjoy :) - Word count: 2.5k
“Is it true what I heard about this guy?”
The monitor beeps, cold and clicking metal tools.
“Yeah. Serial killer almost stabbed him to death. Crazy huh?”
Aaron steps out of a pale, yellow Pontiac Torpedo, closing the door behind him. The fact he’s naked under the thinnest hospital gown and was driven to a dark, old-fashioned theatre by a strangely quiet David Rossi doesn’t register. When the wide doors open, Aaron is met by nothing but a red balloon which immediately catches his attention. His bare feet are no longer cold against the chilled outdoor ground but instead covered by fancy dress shoes on wood floors. His hands reach up to touch at his chest, brushing over a fine suit. He follows the drifting balloon across the room, eyebrows drawn together and lips pulled downwards. The balloon turns the closest corner, stopping in the doorway of a room projecting a blank white image. In the center row of seats is the silhouette of a thin, still woman. Usually, he’d reach for his gun and tiptoe down the aisle, ask for a name, and demand to see hands in the air, but at this moment he ceases to have a job at all, no duty to protect.
“Hi, honey. I saved you a seat,” Haley greets him, patting the seat to her left. He’s slow to sit, taking her outstretched hand. “I’ve missed you,” Haley says, rubbing her thumb over Aaron’s knuckles.
“I’ve missed you, too.” He’s mystified, mouth gaping as he observes her green dress, large earrings, and neatly styled hair.
The film rolls on screen. Haley jumps in her seat and looks excitedly at Aaron and exclaims, “Ooh, it’s starting!”
Aaron immediately recognizes the memory unfolding before him, one of his fiance rubbing purple dye into Jack’s hair for Halloween. At first it’s just Jack sitting on the sink counter, his whole body jittering with excitement as two hands try their best to turn his short hair into a mohawk.
“Oh, look how happy he is,” Haley sighs, a smile on her face.
There’s purple smudges on Y/n’s face, a few dots of it on the white bathroom walls. Y/n cringes, his eyes looking at the mess he’s made before looking down at Jack, and purposely leaving a round spot on the boy’s nose like a grape.
“Who’s that?” Haley asks, a smirk in her tone.
“His name is Y/n” Aaron says, a thin smile lifting his face. He still remembers coming home just in time to see Jack and Y/n in their shared bathroom hyping each other up on how they’d be the best dressed in the whole neighborhood that night. Y/n tried to hide the purple mess on the walls by wrapping his arms around Aaron’s shoulders and giving him a long kiss that Jack “ew”ed at.
“He’s gotten so big!” her voice borders on tears, her hands are held in front of her like they’re in prayer.
Now this one’s a memory that’s slipped Aaron’s brain. Jack has tears down his face, his nose is red and his cheeks are hot. The boy just lost his soccer game, a game he and Aaron had been over the moon excited for, but one Y/n couldn’t attend.
“You only truly lose if you quit, Jack. We’ll get ‘em next time buddy” Aaron says, hand rubbing circles into Jack’s back.
They hop in the car, stopping for ice cream on the way home. When Aaron unlocks the door Jack quickly swings it open, eyes searching until he finds Y/n standing excitedly in the kitchen doorway. Y/n’s smile quickly falls when he notices the disappointment on Jack’s face.
“Oh buddy,” He says, crouching down, arms open and ready to comfort the boy. “How’d it go?”
The blond sprints across the room, crashing into an inviting grip. Aaron hangs his coat, kicks his shoes off, then reaches for Y/n’s face, inspecting the injuries littered across his face.
“You’re bruised,” he frowns, “and your lip.”
Y/n smiles, “Just a rough workday without you, Love.”
Jack sniffles, reminding Y/n of who he’s really supposed to be comforting.
Brushing a hand through Jack’s hair, Y/n holds his face and wipes away at the few tears and grins at him, “Oh but I bet you were the best on your team! I bet you were so so close to winning, it was just a game of luck and one of those boys must have a witch mother who gave him a real strong spell of luckiness.”
Jack smiles, sniffling once again before saying a hushed, “Yeah.”
“You’ll get them next time, I swear. And I’ll be there to cheer you on, I promise,” Y/n vowed, holding Jack’s small hands in his own.
This seems to cheer him up. He smiles and nods, then places a small kiss on Y/ns face and says a quick “Thank you, dad!” before running to the couch to play on his PlayStation.
Aaron and Y/n are frozen for a moment, both registering the sentence, noticing it’s the first time Jack has called Y/ n dad. Aaron lowers himself onto the floor for a tight embrace and shed several tears.
“He must be an agent, huh? With those bruises,” Haley asks, her eyebrows raised as she turns her head towards her ex-husband.
“Yes, he is. We met at work, actually,” Aaron clears his throat, “He’s a great agent.”
“Well I’ll say,” she gazes back at the screen and points, “You wouldn’t marry just anyone”. Y/ns engagement ring. It’s not the only ring on his hand but definitely the most expensive. “It’s beautiful,” She says, patting Aaron’s shoulder with approval. “Good choice.”
He laughs just for a moment, “He actually picked it himself without knowing it. I caught him looking at it, all I did was go back and buy it.” He looks at her, how the screen shines in her eyes, and he wonders how she feels. She’s not mad, he can tell that much, but in her voice he knows she’s hiding some hurt deep down. He’s not sure if he wants to ask.
The story moves on, now showing a more adult clip, one that makes Aaron’s lips form a thin line and causes to Haley clap and laugh. He has Y/n backed up against his desk with the man’s backside ghosting over the surface. Aaron’s placing long, desperate kisses upon his fiancé’s lips, his hands fumbling with Y/ns tie yet making no efforts to remove it.
“I could never picture you so unprofessional at work!” Haley says, her eyes wide and mouth parted in an open smile.
He avoids eye contact, his gaze burning holes into the screen.
“He must’ve really softened you these past few years, huh? He’s the chill pill you’ve been needing to take.”
“I suppose so.” His hands continue to mess with the tie, his thumbs rubbing against the fabric.
“Just look so good in your tie,” Aaron mumbles into Y/n’s lips, eyes shutting once again as two hands comb through his hair and bring him back for more.
“Oh really? What do you like so much about it?” Y/n asks, lips ghosting Aarons.
“How it looks on you, of course,” the chief says, leaning forward in hopes of another peck.
“What color is my tie?” Y/n asks, pressing his chest into Aarons so the man can’t steal a glance at the fabric now slightly crooked around the profiler’s neck.
Aaron tried anyways, opening his eyes and gazing down only to be met by his fiancé’s eyes looking straight into his own with a knowing grin. “You don’t even know the color!” he snickers, kissing Aaron’s lips before taking a step to the side.
Their hands rapidly fix every minor mistake in their outfits, Aaron fixes his hair while Y/n wipes his own lips.
Aaron chuckles, hands flattening his suit, “You caught me, you win. It wasn’t just about the tie.” He can’t stop the smile that gives him those crinkles under his eyes, the ones Y/n calls adorable.
“You look very good in your new tie, alright? You look handsome.” Y/n huffs a laugh, body halfway out the door.
“I love you,” he says, a smile on his lips. He has no time to close the door before he’s dragged away by a coffee-buzzed Garcia.
Haley awes, her hand returning to Aarons, tangling her fingers with his. Her hand feels nice in his, it’s dainty and small, though he can’t help but compare it to his fiance’s. His hand fits fine with Haley’s. He wouldn’t have held her hand for decades if it didn’t, but Y/n’s hand is bigger, more firm, and has formed callouses from all his paperwork and fence hopping. He thinks of how Y/n’s fingertips feel when they brush the hairs that stick out above his forehead, how they wrap around him so gently but can also hold unsubs in a death grip.
“Gosh, he’s really good with Jack,” Haley admits, wiping a fallen tear.
“He is, but I don’t know if I’m enough.”
“Oh, stop beating yourself up. You’re a great dad. You always have been,” she reassures, resting her head on his shoulder.
This time it’s Aaron who wipes a tear away, sniffling his nose and shaking his head. “It gets hard,” He sniffs.
“But you’re not alone,” she reminds him.
That’s right. He’s not alone. He has his man at both home and work. He can be with his love almost whenever he wants, not ever separated for weeks on end by their jobs. They can peek at each other through Aaron’s wide windows, bring each other drinks, and give each other new pens when theirs run low on ink. Aaron still has the pink pen he assumed Penelope left on his desk but later was questioned by Y/n if he’d noticed it yet. He’s seen Y/n gossiping with the girls, giggling and then rolling his eyes when he catches Aaron’s look of disapproval. Who can forget the shoulder massages? Or the nights both men fall asleep on Aaron’s office chairs, limbs in every direction? With Haley, being alone was normal. Because of their conflicting schedules their relationship was like walking a tightrope, like a commercial break before he had to get on with his job. Now he’s hardly ever alone, and even when he is, Y/n is often on a break at home taking care of their son so he can “recharge his brain” and returns to work just days later.
“I just wish this could last forever.” Her smile’s calm, her attention is no longer on the screen. She turns in her seat, her grip tightening around Aaron.
“When you first left,” Aaron begins, “I felt lost for so long. I didn’t know what to do with myself, with Jack..” The two late lovers smile at each other, “And I felt like an even worse dad than before.” He’s crying, round tears trickle down and over the curve of his chin.
“He’s not like you,” Haley says, wiping the tears off his aged face, “He needs to hear the words. You have to be there for him.”
He nods, breathing in and out, ashamed of crying when he’s not the one whose only option is to watch her child’s life through a screen.
The clips shorten in length, simply showing short recordings of the men and boy smiling, holding hands, or playing games with each other. It’s quiet in the theatre, just the sounds of Haley and Aaron’s breathing. They stare at each other, both with sympathetic expressions.
“Well, it’s time to go. Let me walk you out, Aaron,” she offers, standing up and slowly making her way past the chairs. Looking at the screen one last time, Aaron smiles to himself when Y/n appears on the screen, kissing Aaron on the forehead while on the jet, making Aaron grunt and shield his face from grinning Rossi and JJ with his file. He gets on his feet, following after his late wife.
Her high heels click, she wings her arms, and Aaron can’t help but still have tension in his shoulders. The loud clacks of her shoes come to a halt as they step outside, her smile gone, and her hands reach for Aarons once again.
“I don’t want you to go,” Haley says, swaying their hands side to side.
The wind ceases and Aaron isn’t sure where he’d go, he’s not even quite sure where he is. All he knows is that leaving Haley will hurt once again.
“Thank you, Haley,” Aaron whispers, placing a kiss on her hand and bringing her in for a warm hug. To replace the memory of holding her deceased body with his current embrace that is instead warm, with a beating heart and a chest that rises and falls against his is a breath of fresh air, one that he’s certainly needed.
“I’m at a loss for words. To see you again,” he pauses, “is straight out of a dream.”
“Just a while longer?” She asks, bringing his hands up to brush against her cheek, her eyes heavy with sorrow.
For the first time tonight, Aaron realizes just how odd his situation is. His ex-wife has been dead for years, he’s never owned a suit with a bow on the front, and he definitely would never follow a red balloon into a dark room. Why hasn’t he received a call from his team? A call from Y/n? He glances to his side, noticing Rossi who’s sat comfortably in his yellow cab, seemingly lost in thought.
“I want to stay with you,” Haley tells him, blinking away tears.
He notices now that his outfit has returned to his hospital gown from before, short, thin, and slightly embarrassing. He brings her back into his hold, flush against his chest and holding on oh-so tightly.
“I missed you. I still have our family photos and I look at them all the time. I’ve never forgotten about you and I don’t ever want to, but I have to go,” Aaron takes a deep breath, catching a whiff of her faint lilac perfume. “I’ve healed, and I’ve gotten stronger. And I’ve moved on. Y/n is somewhere and he’s without me. I miss him,” Aaron says, hearing her weep into his shoulder.
She pulls away from him and wipes her eyes. They give each other smiles, hers of longing and his of remembrance.
“I’m so proud of you,” Haley says, their fingers separating. “The heart is the one that knows, so follow it,” She tells him, waving her finger at the man.
Rossi stands by the door, waiting patiently for Aaron to approach. “Y/n’s a keeper, and Jack really likes him. So don’t screw it up,” she demands, a smile adorning her features once more.
Aaron speaks with the most confidence he’s had all night, “Oh, I won’t.”
Rossi opens the back door, stepping aside, giving Haley a curt nod.
“Goodbye Aaron.”
“Goodbye Haley.”
He watches her wave through the car window as Rossi starts the engine, and watches her eyes follow the car as he’s driven away.
i'm currently babysitting and i've been thinking about baby sitting with spence 😭 especially if you guys were lovers but no one knew bc if jj (or hotch) came home later that night and sees you and spencer cuddled up on the couch, they'd definitely question you 😭✋🏻
Tumblr media
"are you coming with me to babysit jack tonight? i forgot aaron had asked me to babysit tonight for him and haley” you packed your purse and zipped it close, spencer standing up.
“sure, why not?” he smiled and grabbed his book, giving you a kiss before you two headed out of your apartment and down to the car.
you two arrived to the hotchner household as they were both trying to change their 8 month old. “hi, hello. sorry, he just had to be changed and..”
“don’t worry about it! i can wait” you reassure and they both thank you, getting jack situated before bringing him over to you.
“spencer. what’re you doing here?” you halted as you realized nobody knew you two were a thing. “not that we mind”
“spencer was over watching star trek with me and he wanted to try babysitting” you lied straight through your teeth, spencer nodding along. haley bought it, aaron didn’t. he was a profiler for a living, he saw your lip twitch softly.
haley and aaron explained jack’s routine, and you were really glad spencer was here so he could remember everything they just said.
the both of them left and you bounced jack, a little smile on his face and spencer walked next to you, putting his hand on your lower back and jack gripped his finger as spencer tickled his stomach. "you are just so cute, hello" spencer cooed and you lay your head on his shoulder.
-
"spencer, have you ever changed a diaper before?" jack laid on the changing table and spencer shook his head, and you two swapped places. "well, today you're going to learn. just in case you ever have children!"
"oh jeez, okay. diaper, wipes, okay" spencer did what you instructed him to do, and nearly put the diaper on backwards but he did it all correctly, jack giggling and clapping.
"yay! uncle spencer did it!" spencer chuckled and picked jack up, looking at you and kissing you softly. "good job, babe" you smile and kiss him again, the 3 of you heading into the living room.
jack started to fuss and spencer got a little flustered, so you took jack and headed to the kitchen and grabbed a bottle, putting in the formula and shaking it up. you sat down next to spencer and fed jack, but he as still fussing after he finished his bottle.
you brought jack to his nursery, rocking him to sleep and humming him softly with his mobile twinkling a song as well. you set him down and rubbed his belly slowly as he fell asleep.
you stood up and jumped as you saw spencer in the doorway. "my god, babe, you scared me!" you smile and so did spencer, who wrapped his arm around your back and kissed your head. "you wanna go watch a movie?"
you two picked a random movie, and from hours of taking care of a baby, you two were tired. you had fallen asleep on spencer's shoulder, legs over his lap and his arms tight around you with his head on top of yours.
aaron and haley walked into the house, the both of them smiling as they saw you and spencer. "aw, honey, look" haley whispered and aaron nodded.
"yeah, you didn't know they were dating? come on" aaron whispered back and spencer stirred, opening his eyes and rolling his lips between his teeth. "it's alright, spencer. thank you two, so much for watching jack. we'll talk more tomorrow"
"thanks, hotch" aaron and haley went upstairs and spencer woke up you up, and you two headed to the car.
"wait. was he mad? i don't want to get fired" your stomach churned and spencer chuckled, holding your face and kissing you softly.
"he's okay with it, baby. come on, let's get home and sleep" you look at him and nod, kissing him again and heading into the car. you held his hand on the way home, spencer's thumb rubbing over the back of your hand. you kissed the back of his hand, happy to be with spencer.
I know you've gone into detail about a few already, but what would you say are your top 10 hotch headcanons? You don't need to explain them if you don't want to, I just wonder what the list would look like.
ok it was surprisingly hard to think of headcanons?? lmao i think its just hard for me to think of them on the spot? idk i think i just do more character deep dives than actual headcanons. like i’m sure if you asked me about anything in particular i’d be able to give you my opinion/headcanon but thinking of stuff off the cuff is uhhh hard. also im just stupid aaskjdfhgl
he has a hard time sleeping in front of other people and he's a light sleeper, which can make sharing a hotel room difficult sometimes. he's also an early riser, which can sometimes be a little creepy for whoever's bunked up with him for the night: he's still awake when they go to sleep but he's also already showered, dressed, and left them breakfast on the nightstand. it's hard to tell if he's slept at all
he’s an excellent gift giver but he also hates attention so it’ll usually be anonymous. at some point tho they all realize when it’s something from him. he's uncomfortable receiving gifts (more ab hating attention and not feeling like he deserves anything), so the team will just leave things on his desk with a note or something, usually including "no take-backs."
he hates getting his picture taken, but he loves having photos of people he cares about. something something doesnt care about himself something something in his wallet he has a picture of jack, of haley and jack, of jessica and jack, and a lot with the team: one with emily including rossi, one including gideon and elle, one of just penelope and jj, one of just derek and spencer, and one old picture (the only one he has of himself) of him standing between gideon and rossi when he first joined the bau.
he’s good at cooking, but only when he’s following a recipe (which is why he’s also good at baking). so between gideon and rossi he knows how to cook a lot of italian food. but he’s a quick learner and will pick up skills just by watching. he’s very attentive when someone is preparing a meal for him.
he likes most foods and isn’t very picky, but he loses his appetite easily and can handle plainer food better when he’s focused on/upset about something.
he has. a fucking insanely high pain tolerance. like the pain registers and he can definitely feel it, but he doesn’t ever show it. morgan was some combination of awed/horrified when he saw hotch get stitched up for something minor for the first time and the man didn’t so much as wince.
trans hotch!! idek what else to say on this. i just think he’s neat? i don’t think a lot of people on the team know just bc he doesn’t really talk about it a lot. he’s p open about it with garcia tho
autistic hotch is also something that can be so personal. ik @eldrai has written out some amazing hcs in further detail that i’m obsessed with. he’s just got very specific things that makes him feel safe; a few things that have to be a certain way for him to feel comfortable/normal like his clothing; he has a hard time expressing what he’s feeling which is something he’s gotten better at over the years; he’s actually pretty good at deciphering social cues but only when he’s actively thinking about it; bc of his childhood he’s learned to stim in very small movements like touching his thumbs to his fingers. lots of other stuff too but those are the things that come to mind.
every hc for hotch’s backstory is genuinely gonna be way too fuckin long to put in a bullet list. especially the kind of detail @t4thotchniss and i have put into it. goin over the basics: super violent father, mom’s psyche has taken a severe downward spiral after the years of abuse, hotch snaps and beats his father to death, a couple days later his mom burns the house down while he’s out getting groceries. we also like to throw an older sister in there for funsies to a) get baby sean out of the house before their father gets a chance to go after him at this point the sheer brutality of the abuse has gotten so severe that there’s no way a baby would survive the conditions in the house and b) to help hotch’s transition get started pretty early
how the team handled reid's addiction/recovery
//tw for mentions of drug abuse, addiction, overdose, recovery; gonna be a bit of a long one//
~ reid knew that gideon, no matter how much he cared for him, would never do anything to help him. everything with frank was haunting his mind, and he was far too distracted to really notice how much reid was struggling, but gideon knew that he was using
~ after about 2 weeks from his abduction, he'd been using steadily every day, and hotch was the first member of the team to notice him slipping to the bathroom more than usual during the day.
~ that night after the rest of the team had left, hotch went to gideon and asked if reid had said anything about the abduction, to which gideon gave a noncommittal grunt of "he's stressed, he just died. cut the kid a break"
~ so hotch kept an eye out, off-handedly mentioned that he was there for reid if he ever needed anything
~ 3 weeks and 4 days after he spoke to gideon, he was woken up at 2 am to a frantic call from reid, saying hankel was in his house and was going to hurt his mom. he can't remember the last time he drove that fast, but when he got to reid's apartment he saw the other man shaking and crying on the floor of his bathroom, the tourniquet still tied around his arm and a near-empty bottle of dilaudid next to him. he immediately went into dad-hotch mode, got him a glass of water and just sat with him while he cried.
~ reid wrapped himself around hotch and sobbed, begging him not to report this to anyone because "you guys are my family, i can't lose you, you're all i have" and hotch just lets him, petting his hair and promising him that he won't say anything
~ from then on hotch became the person reid called if it ever got too bad, because he was the only one who he was certain wouldn't judge him. he knew the others would be more than willing to help, but it scared him to be so open with even hotch, let alone the entire team.
~ and hotch keeps his word, he never says anything outright to anyone else on the team. but he does mention to them, on a day reid called in sick, that he's struggling right now and they all need to be there for him. gideon knows, but he never speaks up.
~ penelope and derek were the first after hotch to step up and see what they could do. penelope was the one to finally realize he was using, and when she proposed the theory to derek it took everything in him not to go up and grip reid by the shoulders, shake some sense into him and beg for a way to help him get better, because he just couldn't stand seeing his best friend so hurt.
~ so instead of being overly dramatic about it, they decide that they'll invite him to their weekly movie night and snuggle up on penelope's couch and watch shitty comedies that derek rented from blockbuster until 1 am. spencer falls asleep between them and sleeps soundly for the first time in months, his hand still in the popcorn bowl.
~ after them was emily, who knew all too well what a drug-addled young man looked like. she saw traces of matthew in reid, and was determined to make sure that he didn't turn out the same, because this time she would do something.
~ she started to bring him coffee and danishes in the morning, knowing that he likely wasn't eating nearly as much as he should've been. it was more casual at first, only once a week or so saying "they made extra at the coffeeshop" and placing it on his desk before he could argue. but before long, they were eating breakfast together every morning, and some days even meeting up at a cafe or diner to talk about an obscure french novel they'd both read.
~ jj was the last one to notice something was off about reid, struggling with her own trauma from hankel. she was still blaming herself for him even getting taken, so despite her best efforts to look out for him she barely even noticed when he got bad. after hotch said something to them at the roundtable, she kept a closer eye out for him.
~ she wasn't even sure that she completely understood what was really going on with reid, she just knew that her friend was struggling and that she needed to help him in any way she could. so she started letting him ramble on whatever topic his brain focused on that day, and she did her best to try and understand what he was talking about. she even asked penelope to look up some of the science theories he was talking about so that she could talk about them with him too. seeing how he lit up when someone actually listened made her heart burst.
~ spencer had a feeling, deep down, that they all knew what was going on with him. he also knew that hotch never said anything, just that the people he worked with were incredibly talented profilers and no matter his best efforts to hide from them they'd always know what was going on with him.
~ in fact, hotch never said anything outright to him either, after that first night. but he'd come and stay with reid on the really bad nights, and was the one to set him up at NA meetings, to get him a sponsor. he never made a big deal out of anything, but spencer knew that he probably cared the most out of anyone else on the team
~ and once he got better, started the recovery process, he slowly repaid the team for their kindness. he started paying for breakfast with emily, and hosted movie nights at his house every few weeks. he even watched a soccer match with jj, since that was something she cared about. he never had to do anything for hotch, because he just knew that nothing would ever be enough to show his gratitude. but he'd watch jack so he and haley could go on date nights, and picked up extra paperwork at the office. and it was enough.
//god this one hurt but it needed to be done, idk why but the only way reids recovery makes sense is if the team knew but just kept it on the dl for him and helped him in small ways, ways to make sure he knew they cared//
Big couch - Aaron Hotchner x male!reader
A little soft and smutty, which is what I love ;3 Also it got a lot longer than I anticipated as per usual lol (AO3)
Warnings/tags: nsfw, smut, fluff, plot what plot, oral, penetrative sex
Wordcount: 3419
Request: Hello! Could I request an Hotch x Male!Reader? A smut imagine where the reader is the top and is taller than Hotch.
A lazy weekend alone was rare for you and Aaron. There were no new cases that you had to go to urgently, Jack was at a weekend sleepover at a friend's house, and the whole team was just taking the weekend off.
On Friday Rossi declared just before leaving the office that although he loves everyone, he sees you all too much. Everyone had filed out of the office that evening, even Hotch leaving at the same time as everyone else since you dragged him out of his office by his hand.
There had been some teasing from the team, some not so subtle wordplay on what they thought you would be doing, and though you had joked back, even Hotch joining in with some dry humor (”What we do on our own personal time is not your concern agent Morgan”, said with a barely hidden smile, letting you all know it was all in good fun), nothing had happened last night.
Both of you had just been too tired, so after going to your place and ordering in some pizza, eating it in what felt like seconds, you had fallen asleep cuddling in bed.
The morning after, Saturday, today, you had actually for once woken up before Aaron. He just looked so peaceful that you didn’t want to wake him up, so you got out of bed to put on the coffee.
It didn’t take long before Aaron joined you in the kitchen, yawning, wearing rumpled pajama pants and your t-shirt that is too big on him, bedhead making his hair stand in every possible direction.
He looks cute, and you make sure you tell him so as he kisses the back of your neck while you prepare breakfast for the two of you. He scrunches his nose at that, almost looking confused, but doesn’t comment on it more as both of you sit down to eat and drink some coffee.
After breakfast you move to the couch, taking the coffee cups with you into living room and setting them on the coffee table, not even bothering to change into normal clothes as it is a lounging around kind of day.
You settle on your back first, and instead of moving your feet so he can sit down like he normally would, Aaron lays down next to you, back against the backrest, head and hand on your chest, and legs intertwined with yours. You raise a brow, but don’t comment, an arm going around his back as he settles in and you start the movie.
You’re just glad your couch is long and big enough for the both of you to sleep on, neither you or Aaron exactly being small men.
You’re not even really sure what you are watching, already dozing off once more. Aaron isn’t faring much better, yawning so hard you feel his body stretch. You chuckle and kiss the top of his head, smiling at the content hum you get in response before you fall asleep.
-----
Aaron wakes first, the credits now rolling on the screen cluing him into the fact that your unplanned nap had been going on for a little while. You’re still sleeping, chest rising up and down evenly, heart beating steadily under his ear. He yawns, almost tempted to doze off again, but instead he lets his hand wander over your chest, tracing random patterns over your t-shirt.
It tickles slightly, which is what wakes you up from your slumber. You yawn, stretching as you do so, hand tightening its grip on Aaron‘s hip. He smiles, looking up at you through his eye lashes.
“Good morning.” He says, and you smile as you look down at him, noticing his hair is still a mess, but you’re mostly distracted with how soft he looks.
“What time is it?” His hand is still slowly moving across your chest in seemingly random patterns, making you very aware of his touch through the thin fabric of your t-shirt.
“Don’t know, but the credits are rolling.”  You glance at the TV, and yes indeed, they are.
“We really needed some sleep huh?” You look back down and smile at him, and he hums in response, hand coming to rest on your chest as he moves up a little so he can plant a sweet and short kiss on your lips.
“I guess we did.” His voice is low, eyes warm, and you can’t help but move for another kiss. He readily accepts it, moving a little more so you’re on the same level. Your hand not on his hip comes to rest at his cheek, stroking your thumb against his cheekbone.
Leaning back from the kiss, you just take in the sight of him. His brown eyes are warm, hair a mess, rumpled clothes, smiling wide as you move your hand down his face so your thumb is resting against his lips. He licks it, a glint in his eye that you recognize. You move your hand away so you can kiss him again, deeper this time.
Suddenly neither of you are that tired anymore.
Instead you are a lot more focused on each other, and the feeling of your lips against each other. Aaron is the first to introduce tongue and you groan into his mouth, meeting his with yours.
The angle isn’t the best, so slowly, as not to break the kiss, you shift and turn the two of you so you’re on top of Aaron. You more or less plaster yourself against him, holding him down by his hips as you keep kissing him, breath growing heavier by the second as your cock starts to stir.
You’re more or less crowding over him, pressing him into the couch with your hands on his hips, your taller frame completely covering him when you settle between his splayed legs.
He’s not used to being the smaller one, Haley and the few others (women and men) he had dated before you came along, had always been smaller than him. It was odd, having to be the one to lean or look up slightly to kiss, but he had found that he hardly minded.
He likes how you feel against him, and with this angle, you pressing him down like this, neither of you have to move or angle your heads much. His hands find their way into your hair. He tugs, making you moan and squeeze his hips hard, making him certain that there will be bruises later, and he certainly doesn’t mind that either.
Your hands find the hem of the t-shirt that he is wearing, toying and tugging at it slightly before pushing it upwards. You break away from kissing Aaron so you can move down his body, kissing along his stomach and chest as the skin is barred to you.
Aaron’s breath hitches, only letting go of your hair so he can take the t-shirt off, hands going right back to their spot they just left so he can tug you up by your hair, pressing his lips to yours once more.
He bites gently on your bottom lip, nipping on it as one hand finds its way to your ass, pressing your forward even more, right against his growing erection. You moan into his mouth, your own hands starting to wander. You gently tug on one nipple as you let your lips wander away from his mouth, instead planting kisses all over his face, along his jaw, over the bridge of his nose, gently tugging at his earlobe as he groans beneath you.
Your lips find their way from his face, down his throat, across his collarbone, planting kisses as they go. Aaron has to let go of your ass as you move down, his hand going back into your hair.
You close your mouth over one nipple, sucking gently as your hand massages the other. The low noise Aaron lets out is deep, almost a growl, and you think that sound will stay with you forever.
You flatten your tongue against the already stiffening bud before moving your mouth over to his other nipple, switching places with your hand. You only suck for a few seconds and run your tongue over this one as well, as you have another destination in mind this time. But judging by the noises Aaron had been letting out, he would hardly have protested you spending more time there.
You were right of course, but that was for another time.
Now instead, you plant kisses down his sternum and stomach as you slide further down, hands squeezing his hips as you come to rest on your stomach between his legs. He moans and you swear you see his dick in his pajama pants twitch as you place a kiss just above his waistband.
You’re not really in the mood for teasing today, so you just pull down his waistband far enough that you can take his cock out, silently grateful for the fact that he hadn’t bothered with an underwear, as that would only have gotten in the way of doing what you want.
He’s hard in your hand, already leaking precum as you lick a long stripe the length of his cock, your tongue going from the edge of his balls to the tip of his cock, before gently engulfing the head in your mouth and sucking lightly.
His hand in your hair tightens, but he doesn’t try to move you in any way, letting you do what you want to him.
You give a few deep sucks, only letting him fall from your lips so you can gather some precum and some of your own spit to coat his cock, giving it a few tugs with your hand before taking him in your mouth again.
You start to bob your head up and down, moving your hand in tandem with your mouth. The hand not on his cock settles on his thigh, warm, heavy, and large.
You hollow your cheeks, every so often sucking him in deep, almost letting him hit the back of your throat as you swallow around him. Aaron moans and groans, sounding absolutely debauched above you.
“I love to hear you like this. Falling apart beneath me.” You dive right back to sucking his cock after sharing that little truth, loving the look on his face as you speak, and the moan as you take his cock back into your mouth.
“And I ah, love when you suck me off, but- hng!” His head tilts back as his cock hits the back of your throat. His hips buck up before he can help himself, your hand moving from his thigh to hip to push him down again.
“But I want you to fuck me before I come.” You look up in surprise, barely keeping his cock in your mouth as his words settle in, letting it fall out so you can speak.
“You sure?” You make eye contact as he nods. This was new territory for the two of you. Not like you hadn’t sucked or jerked him off before, or the other way around.
Taking a deep breath, you scatter a few kisses over his thighs before sitting up on your knees. Aaron watches as you put one leg on the ground to keep your balance before yanking open the little drawer in your coffee table. A pen goes flying and clatters to the floor, but you don’t pay it much mind as you take out the small bottle of lube and condom in there. You meet Aaron‘s gaze, his eyebrow raised, even though he is taking his pants and underwear off as he looks at you.
“I would make some joke here about boys scouts, but I was never in it, so lets say it never hurts to be prepared and a guy can dream right?” You grin and Aaron laughs as you settle back on your stomach between his still open legs, lube in hand and condom on the table. You place few a kisses over his hip bones as you open the lube-bottle, the sound of it making the muscle beneath your mouth stiffen, if only for a few seconds.
“Relax.” You glance up at him as you speak into his skin, his hands coming to rest in your hair once more.
“You’re doing a good job of that already.” He says as he steers you downward slightly. You let him, taking his cock back into your mouth as your hands find his ass cheeks. Tense for a few seconds again, before relaxing, one of your fingers dancing around his rim as you continue to suck him off.
As one finger enters him Aaron‘s breath hitches, but he tugs on your hair to get you to move when you still. Gauging his reaction, looking up at him trough your eyes lashes as he throws his head back when you start to move, you can’t help but think how beautiful he looks and feels.
His adam’s apple bobbing as he swallows.
The low moan he lets slip past his lips as your tongue dances up the underside of his cock.
His fingers grazing against your scalp as you introduce another finger, opening him more as you search for that thing.
You let his cock fall out of your mouth, giving it a long lick from top to bottom before you speak.
“You okay Aaron?” He looks down at you, blinking and out of breath.
“Yeah, it’s just- odd.”
“Good odd or bad odd?”
“Good odd. Your fingers are, ah-!” He interrupts himself as you finally find his prostate. You grin, resting your head on his thigh.
“You were saying?” Aaron has to lock his lips a few times before answering.
“Nothing important.” He tugs on your hair again, and you crawl up his body so you can kiss him, never taking your fingers out of him. As his lips press against yours, you start to move your fingers again, sliding in and out and out him.
Aaron presses his legs against your sides as you add a third, still kissing him. You’re trying to take it slow, mindful of his body language, which tells you a lot as he starts to push down against your fingers.
You only stop kissing him and take them out of him so you can take your t-shirt and pants off, and reach for the condom, ripping it open with your teeth as you sit back on your knees. Aaron stares at you, his hands on your hips as you roll the condom over yourself.
“You don’t want to move somewhere more comfortable?” Aaron moves his hands to your ass, tugging you forward.
“I am plenty right comfortable here. You got a big couch.” You let yourself fall forwards, arms bracketing him in once more as you plant kisses along his jaw.
“All for you.” Aaron laughs, which turns into a moan as you line yourself up and start to push in. You take it slowly, watching for any sign that he wants to stop, but find none. Instead Aaron bites his lips, throwing his head back and letting out a shaking breath. As you come to stop fully seated inside him, you take the opportunity to pepper kisses all over his neck, barely resisting leaving a hickey somewhere everyone would be able to see.
Instead, you keep the touch of your lips light, almost dancing over the skin.
You slowly move your hips back ever so slightly back before pushing back in, both hearing and feeling the moan Aaron lets out. His hands wander all over you, finally finding their spots, one in your hair, the other on your hip as he drags you forward.
You start to move your hips back and forth, fucking slowly him at first.
But soon you speed up, encouraged by the moans and groans he lets out, and his hands on you, pulling you forward in tandem with your trusts.
Your hands move to his hips to pull him down on your cock, making him groan deep in his chest, making your feel the vibrations through your lips as you fuck him.
He’s so tight around your cock, and every time you hit Aaron’s prostate you feel the jolt of pleasure that flies through as he tightens around you, in turn making you also feel even better.
You’re chasing your own high, and not wanting to leave Aaron behind in any way, but his hand circles your wrist, making you look up in surprise.
“Not yet, I want to do something first.” You nod, and he lets go of your hand to push on your shoulder. You go, slipping out of Aaron as you move.
He maneuvers so you‘re sitting up on the couch, feet on the floor and your back against the back rest. He straddles your lap, kissing you as he sinks down on your cock. You groan, your hands on his hips, his in your hair.
With this new angle Aaron is the one controlling the pace, but you certainly help him by thrusting up and dragging him up and down as much as you can.
You feel him smile into the kiss, more than aware of what you are doing.
You pinch his hip, making him gasp and break the kiss, glaring at you. Although, that doesn’t last long as you hit his prostate, breaking his glare as his breath hitches.
You grin and lean forward, because a perk of this position is that it is very easy to kiss along Aaron’s chest and capture one of his nipples in your mouth.
The hands in your hair tug, but hardly try to move you away, so you suck on the bud, every so often giving a few kitten licks. It’s not the easiest as Aaron moves up and down on your cock, but you manage.
One of your hands moves down his front, and this time he lets you grab a hold of his cock. You thumb the head, smearing out the precum gathering there.
“I’m close.” Aaron mumbles somewhere above you, mostly towards the ceiling. You smile, switching to his other nipple as you start to jerk him off.
You’re close too, but determined to get him off first, so you set a fast time with your fist, and keep moving him up and down on your cock, not that he’s stopping moving himself.
Aaron moans out your name, and you think it’s the best sound you have ever heard.
It doesn’t take long before you feel him tense up, stopping moving his hips as he spills over your hand, groaning, licking his lips as his cum covers your hand.
Aaron breathes heavy as you bring your hand to your lips, licking the cum of as you keep eye contact with him. He licks his own, but instead of moving forward to kiss you like you thought he would, he starts moving again.
Now it’s your time to groan and throw your head back, as you yourself is very close. Aaron kisses along your throat as he moves, uncoordinated and with no rhythm, but fuck, he feels good.
Tight, warm, and very, very solid against you.
As you cum you drag him into a kiss by his hair, making him let out a surprised noise at the motion, but he melts into the kiss as your hips pump into him with the last of your orgasm.
You both still then, breath mingling as you break the kiss.
“Fuck, that was...” You lose your train of thought before you can even get it out, distracted by the feeling of Aaron on top of you, your softening cock, still inside him.
“Yes, that was something.” Aaron places a brief kiss before gently moving off you, flopping down on his back on the couch, arms stretching over his head, legs propped up over your thighs. You take the condom off, careful to tie it up properly before putting in one of the empty coffee cups on the table. Aaron makes a face and you glance at him.
“What? I’m not getting up for at least a little while, and neither are you by the looks of it.” You pinch his thigh and he swats at you, laughing as you grin at him.
(You do eventually get off the couch, but only so you can move to the bedroom, forgetting all about it until you almost put it in the dishwasher like that.)
Just so I could call you mine part 2 - Aaron Hotchner x fem!reader
It's finally here! I'm sorry for the wait, I've only really been able to write at night - my day's have been kinda busy at the moment. But it's finished. It's quite long so sorry about that. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as you enjoyed part 1:)
Also (following a theme here) this is loosely based off of the song 'Enough for you' by Oliva Rodrigo
It had been a month since the argument. Well, I say argument, but I think downfall of the one thing that made me want to get up in the morning would be more accurate. After I’d broken down on Emily’s shoulder that night, she took me back to her place. The whole time I was there, part of me kept wishing for the phone to ring and for it to be him. It didn’t feel real. For the first few days I clung to the shred of hope that he might pull me aside at work to apologise, tell me he was wrong and wanted me back. But seeing as this is my life, that opportunity never came. We hadn’t spoken since that night. Even on cases, he would find ways to avoid talking to me. I can’t say I blame him, he’s a shitty man. And when shitty men do shitty things, they tend to run from it.
I walked into the bullpen laughing with Garcia. All the girls had really looked after me and I couldn’t be more grateful.
“Hey there pretty ladies” Morgan said, sauntering over to us.
“Why hello there handsome. Here to make us yours?” Garcia replied playfully.
“Only if you’ll have me.” Morgan bantered. Garcia just laughed before heading to her cave.
“So how are you gorgeous?” He said throwing his arm round my shoulder.
“I’m doing good. In desperate need for coffee. Don’t get me wrong I love Garcia but after only 3 hours of sleep, her bubbliness this early on has taken it out of me” I explained as we headed to the coffee machine. Derek dropped his arm and stood next to me, allowing me to make my drink.
“Only three hours huh? You having trouble sleeping?” He asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
“No, I just choose to run on as little energy as possible.” I retorted sarcastically, prompting an eye roll from him.
“You know what I meant.”
“Yeah I do, it’s just” I sighed looking down at my coffee.
“Hey.” Derek nudged my arm slightly. “What’s on your mind?” I chewed at the inside of my cheek nervously before answering.
“I guess I’m still adjusting to sleeping by myself.” I admitted. Derek nodded, wearing a sympathetic look on his face. “It’s so stupid, I should be over this by now. I mean I am over him but it’s just certain things like…ugh I don’t know. It’s just stressful.” I ranted.
“It’s normal baby. You went from, what was it nine months?”
“Eleven.” I corrected.
“Right so you went from 11 months of having someone next to you all the time, to suddenly nothing. It’s bound to take some getting used to.” He reasoned. I knew he was right. But something about the way Hotch had essentially picked up where he left off with Haley made me feel so stupid for still being hung up over him.
“Come on, let’s go see if boy genius can tell us something fun.” Derek joked as we walked back to our desks.
The day was almost over, and we’d had no cases, which allowed us to sort through old case files and tidy things up. As boring as that may sound, it was actually a nice break from the horrors we see on a daily basis.
“Right.” Emily said, stretching back in her chair. “I think I’m gonna head out.”
“And leave me here with the men?” I replied, pretend fear laced in my voice.
“I’m so sorry honey. You can do it I believe in you” Emily joked. The boys just swapped an annoyed look. “Sergio awaits me, so I’ll see you all tomorrow.” She said collecting her things.
“Bye Em.” I called after her. But just as she was about to leave JJ rushed into the bullpen.
“Emily stops where you are.” Emily groaned and turned around.
“Jayje I swear to god if you tell us we have a case, as much as I love you, I will be hurling my bag at your head.” Emily said. JJ just laughed at her.
“No, it’s nothing bad guys, but Rossi has invited us to dinner.” She said smiling. The way she looked at us made it seem like she was looking for some type of reaction.
“Okay? Something special about today?” Derek asked.
“Yeah that’s nice of him and all JJ but I’m really tired. Sitting in a crowed Chinese restaurant really wasn’t really what I planned to do tonight” Emily replied. JJ sighed.
“Fine. I mean if none of you want to come back to Rossi’s mansion for a bite to eat then I get that. Have a nice night with your cat Em.” JJ turned to walk away but at the sound of us all scrambling out of our seats, she turned back and laughed.
“Screw Sergio I wanna explore this guy’s house.” Emily said walking over to JJ.
“God you lot are so nosy” She joked as we all walked down to the parking lot.
“What do you expect? The guys a mystery so if there’s an opportunity to snoop of course we’d take it.” I chuckled.
“I just wanna see if he has a first drafts of his books lying around. I can almost imagine how much he left out.” Reid piped up.
“Of course, that’s what you wanna see pretty boy” Derek said patting Reid on the shoulder. We all hoped into our separate cars to go home and change before re convening at Rossi’s.
The night was going great. It was so nice to be able to just take a night off – eat, drink, chat – without the stress of a case looming over our heads. Not to mention Rossi’s house was incredibly impressive. I mean if I could somehow make this man my sugar daddy and inherit this place, I’d be on it in an instant. Aaron was here, which didn’t surprise me. But what did is how relaxed he was. I’d seen it all the time when we were together but somehow seeing it tonight felt strange. Almost as if he’d dismissed the whole situation.
“Okay I wasn’t that bad guys.” Emily protested, snapping me from my thoughts.
“You told Spencer you were going to kill him if he didn’t stop being so loud.” Hotch said.
“That’s understandable on a hangover.” Emily reason.
“Em, I was just turning the pages of my book.” Spencer replied laughing. Emily spluttered over her words, but nothing came out causing the rest of us to join spencer. Suddenly the doorbell rang out. We all looked around confused.
“We’re not expecting anyone else are we?” Garcia asked.
“Um” Aaron cleared his throat.
“I think I might know who that is.” My heart sunk as he got up and walked to the door. Everyone swapped a look, trying to catch my eye but I just starred ahead of me. He wouldn’t have actually invited her. Right?
“Hey honey.” Her voice travelled through the halls causing my heart to not only sink even further, but completely shatter in the process. At least at work I could block out the fact he was with her but now he was just rubbing salt in the wound. Emily finally caught my gaze and shot me a supportive look. I just nodded, offering a tight-lipped smile. Eventually the pair of them came back.
“Hey guys, you know Haley.” Hotch said, looking slightly uncomfortable. Everyone greeted her politely enough, but it didn’t take a profiler to feel the shift in the atmosphere.
“Let me get you a chair.” Rossi said, going to stand up. “No, it’s fine, I’ll just sit here” She stated before promptly positioning herself in Aaron’s lap. I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. I couldn’t watch this. The seven of us sat in a cripplingly awkward silence for a few moments before JJ finally spoke up.
“So, um Haley, how’s jack doing?” She asked politely. “Oh, he’s doing great. Very happy to have his daddy around a lot more now.” Haley responded in a smug tone. As she spoke, she glanced over at me. Clearly noticing my appearance, she threaded her fingers through Aaron’s hair. I averted my gaze, opting to study the details of Rossi’s floor. I heard Hotch clear his throat, almost as if he wanted her to stop. “
I’m glad he’s happy.” JJ replied.
“So am I. Before it was just so hard what with his job and, well – other arrangements – Aaron barely had time for his own son you know. But luckily that’s all been dealt with now.” Haley leant forward and I heard her placing a kiss on his cheek. I couldn’t take this anymore; she was clearly taunting me and as I much as I hated giving into her games – this was so much worse.
“Excuse me.” I said, standing up and heading towards the garden. It took everything inside of me not to break down right then and there. But the minute I reached the garden I lost it. The tears streamed down my face as I tried to quiet my sobs. My heart ached. It felt like everything was crashing down around me. My chest felt hollow. I thought I was over this, over him. I could feel my knees growing weak under me so opted to sit by the edge of the pool, in the hopes to grab some sense of normality. It was a nice night out. It was summer so still warm, but there was enough of a breeze to keep it bearable. I’m sure if looked up I would’ve been able to see the stars, but I was transfixed on the water. Suddenly I heard the back door open. I didn’t turn around, not wanting to face whoever it was.
“I’ve always wanted a pool.” Emily’s voice came from beside me. She sat down, placing her legs in the water next to mine. “I’d love to have this house too.” She stated taking in her surroundings. “What do you say, wanna take Rossi down together and claim all this for ourselves?” She asked nudging my arm. I let out a stiff chuckle but didn’t say anything. Emily took a deep breath before she spoke.
“I’m sorry you had to sit through that” Her voice was sincere. “I don’t know if Hotch invited her, or she just rocked up, but it was out of order either way.” I nodded not trusting my voice right now. “You should know, the rest of us were just as angry. Derek left a few moments after you. He went into the kitchen, but he didn’t come back. I had to send Spencer after to him just to check he wasn’t tearing the place up.” She said light-heartedly. That gave me some comfort, to know I wasn’t being overly sensitive. She let her words hang in the air for a moment and we enjoyed the stillness of the night.
“I just thought.” I began, my voice rough from crying. “That maybe it wasn’t real. Maybe they weren’t actually back together you know?” I turned my gaze towards Emily. She understood. That was one of my favourite things about her. No matter what the situation, whether she’d experienced it herself or not, she was always so deeply empathetic that it helped.
“Listen, nothing I say right now is going to make this any easier. Sure, I could sit here and tell you what a douche bag he’s being” I smiled at her words. “But I know that wouldn’t change anything for you. So, I’ve just come to let you know that we’re all here for you. Take as much time as you need, and when you feel comfortable, come back and join us inside.” She said squeezing my hand.
“Thank you Em. For everything.” She just smiled before standing up and heading inside. By this point I’d stopped crying. You know that moment of calm you experience right after you’ve stopped crying, just before the headache or tiredness kicks in, that is probably my favourite feeling. Which sounds somewhat depressing, but everything just feels so at ease in that moment. Unfortunately, I could not bask in it for long as I heard the back door slide open once again. Thinking it was Emily I called out to her.
“Please don’t tell me I’m going to come in there and see you forcing Rossi to sign us into his will.” I joked, turning around. But instead of being greeted with my friends’ heart-warming chuckle, I saw the man who’d caused this little escape to the garden. It was Aaron.
“Hotch.” I said surprised, scrambling to stand up.
“Hi.” He replied. He looked nervous, relentlessly fidgeting with his hands. It wasn’t normal.
“Why are you here?” I didn’t bother trying to make small talk. What would be the point?
“Um, well I…I just wanted to…” His voice trailed off as he looked to the ground. “Can we sit down?” He asked after a moment. I nodded and made my way over to the beautiful table Rossi had. Aaron sat down but didn’t say anything, just starred ahead of him.
“Are you going to talk or what?” I said bluntly. He looked surprised at my tone but cleared his throat before answering me.
“I just wanted to check on you.” His voice was low, almost as if he didn’t want me to hear what he was saying.
“Check on me?” I replied clearly irritated.
“Yeah I mean you just took off back there, so I wanted to make sure you were okay” He said literally looking anywhere but me. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. He’d spent a whole month doing the most to avoid talking to me and now, not only he dangles his happiness in my face , but he also has the audacity to ask if I’m okay?
“Yeah I wonder why that is?” I shot back. Hotch went to reply but I cut him off. “No no let’s think about it. What could have possibly made me leave? Was it the fact that Derek telling a story? Nope that doesn’t seem to be it.” I said sarcastically. “Oh, maybe Spencer was rambling about something random? No doesn’t sound right? Gosh I just – I don’t know what it could have been. You got any ideas” I continued. Hotch starred at me, annoyed by my games but not enough to reply. “Wait I remember, it was the fact that my ex-boyfriend just wanted to shove the fact that he’s moved on and obviously didn’t give a fuck about me or our relationship further down my throat!” I concluded, standing up to leave.
“That is not fair.” He called after me. I stopped in my tracks, the anger growing inside of me.
“What? What about that is unfair to you?” I replied folding my arms over my chest.
“For you to say I didn’t care about our relationship” he said, his voice laced with annoyance. I scoffed at his words.
“Really? I think it’s perfectly fair considering how you’ve acted. It’s clear that you have no respect for me or what we were.”
“Just because I spend more time with Haley now doesn’t mean that I’ve just disregarded our entire relationship.” He sounded exasperated.
“Spend more time with her? Hotch she was practically fucking you on the chair in there.” I yelled. I’d tried so hard not to lose it but his lack of understanding right now was getting too much for me. “I loved you so much. I gave everything I had into that relationship, and you’ve thrown it all back in my face over one twisted story that your wife decided to spin.” I ran my fingers through my hair trying to calm down. The last thing I needed was for the rest of the team to hear this. Although I didn’t care if Haley did. That bitch. “I don’t know what I did wrong to make you choose her. Maybe I just wasn’t as interesting as her, but you could not have cared less about someone who loved you more. She dragged you down, manipulated you into believing it was your fault that she fucked those other guys. Or when she made you feel bad for choosing to stay in a job that literally makes the world as safer place for people like her or Jack. All I ever wanted was to support you and be there for you to lean on. I wanted to be that one person you could turn to when you felt like the world was crumbling down and you would feel okay. I just wanted to be enough for you. Because that’s what you were for me.” I ranted. Unfortunately, this time I’d been unable to hold back my tears, but I was hoping the darkness of the garden would hide that. Aaron looked crushed, almost guilty. Part of me hurt to seem him like that but another part reminded me he deserved it. I’d say he broke my heart, but he broke much more than that.
“You were that to me too.” He mumbled. His voice was so quiet I wasn’t sure I’d heard him. Clearly noticing my lack of response, he continued. “You meant so much to me and I can’t tell you how painful it’s been without you.”
“Doesn’t really seem like that” I scoffed. He sighed before walking over to me.
“Listen the thing with Haley-“
“If you’re about to tell me why you’re back together with her, please don’t. I can’t handle that right now.” I begged.
“No listen. We aren’t together.” His words took me by surprise.
“What?”
“The night everything kicked off, I’m not going to lie – I did believe her. I mean when she told me that you’d told JJ everything about the divorce, yeah I was mad. It took me so long to open up to you about that, you know the insecurities and the fact I thought Jack was going to resent me or not want me in his life. I trusted you and you just threw it out the window.” I starred at him in shock, unable to speak. Hotch being who he was picked up on my reaction. “What is it?” He asked.
“I can’t believe that’s what she told you.” I said utterly blown away by the fact that Haley was able to lie about something so huge with such ease.
“What do you mean? Are you trying to tell me that’s not what happened?” He sounded apprehensive.
“It couldn’t be further from the truth. She called me to ask where you were and when you’d be home. She must have thought I was lying because then she called JJ. JJ told her she knew she’d rung me and then she hung up.” I explained. Hotch looked just as confused. “I would never tell anyone those things Aaron. No matter how much you hurt me.” He didn’t reply. He looked so torn. “I tried to explain that to you on the night, but you weren’t listening.” I spoke. That caught his attention.
“I know I just felt so betrayed I guess it blinded me.” He replied. “The only reason I’ve stayed as close with her as I have recently is because she was going to keep me away from Jack. I know she had no solid grounds to hold that to and we could have taken it to court if it had gotten that bad, but fathers hardly ever win full custody. I didn’t want to risk it.” He explained. I nodded.
“I understand.” I got it. Jack was his world. And losing him might have just broken him. “
I can’t begin to explain how sorry I am that I let her get between us. I should’ve known, I-I should’ve trusted you.” He rambled. He begun pacing back and forth.
“Hey.” I reached out a grabbed his arm. “Yes you should have trusted me, I’m not going to act like what happened didn’t hurt. But you’re not a mind reader Aaron. You believed the first story you heard. I get it.” I reasoned. Tentatively, he reached out and took my hands in his, rubbing gentle circles with his thumbs.
“I missed you. Everyday.” He whispered.
“I did too. I loved you.” I replied softly. His gaze caught mine.
“Loved?” He asked his eyes wracked with worry.
“Part of me still does. I can’t just shut those feelings down. But what you did broke me. And I don’t want to risk that happening again.” I confessed. He nodded.
“I guess I’ll just have to prove myself to you. Because trust me, you’re all I want. And I’ll wait however long you need me to.” He replied. I smiled up at him and wrapped my arms around his neck as his arms travelled to my waist. Maybe we would get back together or eventually just drift apart, but right now I had my best friend back. And that’s all I cared about.
