There is no distance between us. No false veils of time or space may intervene.
Just realized I never posted my piece for the City 17 Zine, so here it is!
I like the thought that even though Gary can't feel the minds of the other vortigaunts anymore, they might still be able to watch over him somehow ;w;
The full zine can be found here for free, now that the donation period has ended.

PRODUCTION UPDATE + DELAY ANNOUNCEMENT:
Originally, we had estimated shipping would begin around late January- Early February! Due to some production delays because of the holiday season, we are going to have to delay shipping to APPROXIMATELY Mid to late-February! So sorry about that! We appreciate your patience.
So, for full transparency, what is being delayed and what do we have so far?
The initial test books took longer to arrive than expected, so the final book order had to be delayed. They have now been ordered and are in production.
Almost all merch has arrived! Including all stickers, both sticker sheets, all mini prints, charms, shaker charms, acrylic standees, and 2/3 buttons!
The third button had a major error in manufacturing. We had to re-order it, and they will now be a different shape. Again, so sorry about this, we hope you understand! These have already been shipped to us. It's the only merch we are missing.
Shipping will commence once the final books and the buttons have arrived. We will make an announcement when those have been shipped to us, to give people time to change their addresses if need be.
If you need to change your address, email us at [email protected] with your order number and we can change that for you.

i do think its funny to see all the sasunarus in the poll tags going OMG WE'RE LOSING??? HOW?? it's like... listen... my entire LIFE was shaped by sasunaru... i have shipped it for at least 15 years but...
spirk got girlies in the fucking 60s going apeshit for the idea of a man and an alien fucking. how can you read this:
Tumblr media
and think there's competition. this woman wrote a FORTY page, SINGLE SPACED novel about spirk BEFORE WE LANDED ON THE FUCKING MOON... just banging this out on a fucking typewriter
just to show her friends!! she was rawdogging that fanfiction, no ff.net, no aff.net, no ao3! she went so insane she wrote 40 pages just for own friends to teehee about. we only know about it because spirk drove SO MANY other people insane, it was passed friend group to friend group across the COUNTRY just to be published in a zine without her consent... in 1987. this fic lasted in private, yet intense, celebration... for 19 years.
do you understand the type of RAVENOUS people had to be to have NO FUCKING INTERNET and keep a fic circulating for two decades???
i love sasunaru. no ship can match their... everything. but in terms of like... sheer contact-high insanity, spirk is on another level.
like spirk was driving people insane 13 whole years before the movie came out where spock died trying to press his hand against kirk's... some of the best spirk content had yet to come... and yet the girls went wild... truly wild already
sasunaru i love you but... like... spirk has lasted entire lifetimes. sasunaru has taken over half of my life... and yet we all know there is a woman in some retirement home remembering jerking off to a spirk fanzine before half of america even knew gay people existed. it's not the same.

The Pirate station, Radio Scotland began broadcasting in the dying embers of Hogmanay, 1965.
Radio Scotland was a Scottish pirate radio station which broadcast at various points off the Scottish coast between 1965 and 1967, with a mix of pop music and programmes of Scottish interest. It was conceived of and run by publicity and advertising executive Tommy Shields onboard a former Irish lightship, built on the Clyde, named The Comet. Radio Scotland's first broadcast was at 11:50pm on Hogmanay, 31st December 1965, on 1241 kilohertz, 242 metres.
After refitting for her new role in the Channel Islands she had been towed to a position four miles off Dunbar, in the Firth of Forth. Because of delays during the journey north, the ship didn't arrive at the anchorage until early on 30th December, giving the engineers only a few hours to set up the equipment. It was a frantic race against time but the station just made it on air before midnight, albeit at reduced power and with no opportunity to run tests. The first voice on the new station belonged to DJ Paul Young a former presenter of Scottish Television's Roundup programme who welcomed the listeners. He introduced the managing director Tommy Shields, who went on to detail their plans. Radio Scotland was on the air and open for business. The station also broadcast from water near Troon and Northern Ireland over its one-and-a-half years.
While navigating and planting the boat, crew had to be careful to avoid territorial waters, primarily due to the strict laws imposed on the pirate stations by the government of the day. Featuring everything from “modern” rock’n’roll to ceilidh favourites, the station soon became a sensation across Scotland as well as Ireland and northern England, where the signal was also picked up.
With its audience of one million listeners a week in its prime, Radio Scotland was very close to realising Shield’s dream of becoming a successful independent Scottish station.
Joining English stations such as Radio Caroline, Radio Scotland was the only pirate radio station to be formed north of the Border, and soon took its place amongst the big six pirate stations.
People could join the membership of the station and become Radio Scotland “Clan Members”. As a reward, the Clan had their own show every Saturday where they could send in requests, which, alongside Jack McLaughlin’s ceilidh slot, was one of the most popular programmes broadcast.
The station even had its own fanzine called “242” – named after its frequency. The 242 magazine featured interviews with the biggest stars of the day, including The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Tina Turner, but station managers never quite tempted any of the stars on board the infamous boat.
The pirate station’s theme song was a jaunty wee number sung by folk band The Carrick Folk Four. Finishing off the upbeat ditty were the lines: “Oh Radio Scotland’s playing just for you/So beat the ban, and join the Clan, on station 242.”
Although they received many a plaudit, Radio Scotland was plagued with troubles from the very beginning. A poor signal and periods off-air led to a steep decline in advertising revenue and a frustrated fanbase, while fires on board the vessel and the hazardous North Sea conditions did little to help ease its problems.
In a piece in the Edinburgh Weekly just days after the station was laid to rest, Tony Mark wrote: “The death penalty in this country is supposed to have been abolished, yet here we are mourning the execution of what was surely the sound sensation of both 66’ and 67’ as far as Scotland is concerned.”
Although the station had a short life, as is often the case with such ventures, and was taken off the air in the 60s, Radio Scotland inspired a tribute station, which began broadcasting in the mid 70s.
Radio Scotland International, an independently run pirate station broadcasting to Europe from its base in Holland, started in 1975 and has been going ever since.
http://www.radioscotland.nl/
For around 20 months his modest little boat made huge waves and pulled Scotland into the "swinging sixties".
The first pic is Tommy Shields unveiling his pirate ship , the last is the stations first DJ Paul Young then, and as "Shug" in the BBC's Still Game

Yet another tale of how much I owe Star Trek
So this is something I haven’t talked about in years, but I was feeling nostalgic today and wanted to capture something. I wanted to write down how Star Trek got me through adolescence.
Now, I’d already begun decoding Trek and it was already untying the knots my conservative upbringing was instilling from a young age. I can talk about “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield” being so on the nose, but 11 year old me NEEDING to see that message about skin color so badly. However, this is not about Trek making me a better person (which it did); this is about Trek helping me learn how to BE a person.  Much more after the jump...
When I was in sixth grade, in about 1984 (I’m 50 now for reference) I got a copy of the old FASA Star Trek role-playing game. Please keep in mind that at this point, there is TOS, TAS, three movies, the novels, and a few comics, but that’s about it. I was consuming and reconsuming them voraciously when I got this game. As a small-for-his-age, nerdy, poor kid living in a trailer, the idea that I could roll a few dice and…BE in Star Trek was a potent elixir.
Tumblr media
Other people around me were growing up. Toys cast aside, actually interacting with other people in nascent romances; I was rushing home to watch GI Joe and Transformers after school. I was playing with Star Wars figures. I was now going through Starfleet Academy, and all it took was a pencil and 2D10. (Sidenote- the FASA RPG system remains one of my favorite RPGs second only to Fantasy Flight Games’ Star Wars system.) It was a way of adding the unknown to fanfiction I was already writing through  my MEGO Trek figures.
I created a character, a descendant of my own (the biggest fantasy at that time being that I would ever find someone with whom I could start a line of descendants), promoted them to Captain and looking in the “Federation Ship Recognition Manual,” picked out a starship: the NCC-1754 USS Kitty Hawk.
Tumblr media
My adventures had begun. Borrowing PLENTY from my heroes, my character was half-Vulcan, and 100% self-insert. To me, this was the POINT of an RPG. It was me, but the version of me I wished I could be.
As the year went by, I picked up MORE novels and managed to find more TOS episodes (mostly on videodisc at a local place called “Movies to Go”). My sixth grade teacher, Mr. Toresdahl, was a Trekkie and would spend time he probably should have spent convincing me to do homework talking trivia. I would pick up the supplemental bits of the RPG: The Star Trek III Starship Combat Game, the miniatures, modules, reference books.
Tumblr media
Probably the most important was when I got “The Romulans” which were certainly my favorite Trek villain.  This was helped along in NO small part by Diane Duane and her novels starting with “My Enemy, My Ally,” and later “The Romulan Way.” Without a whole lot coming out of Paramount for Star Trek at the time, there was a lot of borrowing between the existing media.
Tumblr media
The RPG borrowed from the novels. The DC Comics series which started after the film “The Wrath of Khan” borrowed from the RPG.*
There was a congruence of some sort forming, and being as into the RPG as I was, it made me pretty well versed in all the lore. I started finding (and eventually writing for) fanzines at that point. I scoured “Starlog” magazine for Trek news and opinion. I was dead set that I would not rest until I knew all there was to know about Star Trek.
When I started 7th Grade, there was a shift in the world around me.  Junior High meant multiple classes and even “electives.” Again, the whole physical specter of preteen sexuality was unfolding (and the examples around a young boy in the mid-eighties were seldom the healthiest). It was like I’d landed suddenly after the summer on a whole new planet, and I wasn’t sure how to cope with it all.
But luckily, I had access to a version of me for whom landing on strange, new worlds was old hat.
And so, I began what I can only now call LARPing life. I decided I WAS Captain Daomer. I invented an intricate “campaign” for myself, where 23rd Century Romulans (thanks again, Ms. Duane) had come back to Earth’s past to change our history, prevent the Federation from forming.** Just luckily, the Kitty Hawk was monitoring tachyon emissions in a singularity adjacent to the Sol system, and picked up the coming changes to the causality chain. At the last minute a hasty slingshot maneuver around the black hole had taken me and my crew to the time and place of the primary Romulan incursion: Southern Arizona in 1985. Of course.
Now, was this just a protective shell inside my head where I would pretend to be Captain Daomer pretending to be Daniel dealing with the intricacies of social interaction in the 7th grade?  Of COURSE not. I told anyone who would listen the whole story.
For about the next six years.
I was in a small enough town that my school, Palominas Elementary, was a K-8.  I’d been with the same folks and staff more or less my entire school career. So, when I had to take a bus 30 minutes away to the nearest town to begin attending High School, did I change the story? Did I keep it to myself?  Oh no; if anything I became MORE flamboyant about it. Still a skinny nerd, I wasn’t picked on. Why? Because that kid’s the “Spock Guy,” and why would anyone mess with that Spock Guy?
Something important DID change between my Freshman and Sophomore year though. Star Trek: The Next Generation debuted. So, I had to update my story a bit.  My half-Vulcan character had returned to the 23rd century, continued his career, and in the 24th century, after being promoted to Commodore and as a fleet commander claiming the new Galaxy-Class USS Kitty Hawk as my flagship, had discovered post-Tomed Romulans were up to their old tricks.  That allowed me a real coup at one point, as I had caught through some fan publication early wind of Denise Crosby leaving the show, and “accidentally” dropped my knowledge that Lt. Tasha Yar was going to die before it happened on the TV. Proof of future knowledge!
My Junior year, I was approached by a fellow student who was writing for the school paper and wanted to interview me.  We spent a couple of class periods talking about my “backstory” and I realized this person knew at least as much—if not more—about Trek than I did. The school paper never did run the interview, but some 35 years later that kid, Will Schwartz (yes, THE Schwartz) remains my best friend.
I had already started to slow the story down a bit the summer before my Senior year, but also that summer, well, I met a girl. We were hitting it off. But when she mentioned going out with me, the school grapevine was quick to ask, “Are you dating that Spock Guy?”
And she didn’t run away. Indeed, when she’d once demonstrated she knew all the lyrics to Neil Young’s “After The Gold Rush,” I figured she was a girl I should talk into marrying me. When she accepted I was that Spock guy, because after all, her Dad was a Trekkie and had an AMAZING collection of science fiction paperbacks, well that clinched it for me. Today, Jennifer and I are celebrating our 33rd wedding anniversary.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, as I went out into the world after high school, did I never call on Commodore Daomer again?  I can’t say never. Sometimes in a military career when facing danger, or briefing an officer with stars on their shoulders, a mask of stoic Vulcan control would come out of that box in the attic of my brain and get me through. But more directly, Star Trek, and my immersion thereof got me through 7th to 12th grade and gave me a broader world view, a friend for decades, and helped me identify the love of my life.
Thank you Star Trek for all of that. Thank you creators for the assist. Thank you fellow fans for helping it be such a rich world, and thank you Commodore Daomer for your 24th Century wisdom.
One little coda.  I still watch a lot of Star Trek. Old, new…I don’t like everything that comes out, but I love it all, and that’s something I think some fans struggle with. However, there was a lovely new starship introduced not long ago, and I had to immediately find a fan produced model and make some custom changes.
Tumblr media
The Kitty Hawk-A goes boldly... Second star to the right, and straight on 'til morning.
*The DC series had some wonderful early issues ALSO written by Diane Duane! Who can forget the Ajir and the Grond? Or McCoy accessing Spock’s katra still lurking within? Wonderful. The fact I’m mutuals here on Tumblr with someone who was such an influence to young me is probably the thing about my life now the kid in the trailer would be most skeptical of.
**Thanks to Strange New Worlds for canonizing this, by the way.

I think part of the issue is with the Twitter algorithm pushing these tweets that are probably intended to be seen by your mutuals you relate to over your expectations and opinions of an upcoming season of a show you love being pushed into a bunch of people's feeds who have no interest in that side of the Fandom. I don't think it's entitled to say you're nervous for an upcoming season on a personal Twitter account. I didn't even finish acoc because it stressed me tf out with how stressed the cast (especially emily <3) was irl, but I personally was nervous before the trailer because everyone thought it was going to be starstruck, and I have never seen how MM handles sci-fi, i was relieved because i think high fantasy is his strong suit but if it had been starstruck i would have stayed nervous until i saw it come out. I think it would be different if the oerson @ anyone involved or was making specific demands, but just expressing caution or disappointment on their personal page is not the same as hate imo. Also, anyone actually making demands would be sorely disappointed because all d20 seasons are filmed in advance! It was all filmed by the time the trailer came out! The sugar plum fairy herself could come to life and appear in front of MM and say, "I didn't like the way you did this part do it again," and he can't! Because it's already done! They're editing it right now! The first episode is in like a week and a half! It's over!
the twitter algorithm didnt do much for me to see those tweets bc i was literally following those people bc they were the loudest d20 accounts and were very active when i started my d20 twit acc. to be clear, i used to follow accounts that had made fun of matt mercer for wearing a vest and want to keep him, the CR fanbase, and his DM style away from d20.
the only thing twitter algoritm showed me what these people were liking and those were jabs at matt and tweets expressing how they think matt is going to "disrespect fanlore" and may headcanon queer characters straight.
these were the same people who were worried matt was going to bring toxic CR fans to d20.
yeah i get the seasons are taped months in advance. these people are just making noise simply because they dont like CR or matt or are being very precious about their fanlore. imagine basically telling brennan he shouldnt touch certain parts of the original starstruck comics in Starstruck Odyssey because youre a fan of the original comics and you dont want the show to ruin your long established fan lore.
there are people hating just to hate. and i dont know if theyre still being vocal about how they dont like MM because i've already blocked them. theyve probably moved their tweets to their circles or private accounts. idc. but im now seeing tweets defending the people who basically icked out of the next season simply bc MM is DMing. like i didnt see tweets that practically made fun MM for his style and the way he speaks, a man with literal body dysphoria and previous speech problems. a dude whose actual self-insert character in his campaign is a bisexual wizard lady.
ive seen d20 fans say we pride ourselves for being a "more chill" and "less toxic" fandom than CR but based on the tweets i saw from the moment the teaser dropped, we're not chill or less toxic at all. im truly shocked that the bunches of d20 fans i used to follow are that rude.
if they're gonna be dicks about the new season, just stay quiet and dont watch it. no need to ~ooh noo my fanzine/fic abd pre-ACoC events/people will no longer be canon~ ~ooh noo matt made that npc i headcanoned as gay into a straight carrot~ ~ooh noo matt's dm style is sooo not made for d20~ their way around the fandom. it's annoying for the rest of us who are just excited for the new season.
imagine practically telling brennan's friend (who now has the complete lore document on brennan's acoc lore) that he should stay away from brennan's lore bc you dont want your headcanons and fanlore to go to waste. idk what else to call that but entitled.
d20 fandom clown phase is going strong i fear.

Aww sorry to hear you’ve been so busy hope things calm down soon for you.
Not much has happened, everyone wants to discuss Van’s love life or lack thereof on here, someone claims he has 2 sexy time playlists on his Spotify, and the biggest news is Bondy publishing a really cool fanzine thing from the CATB US 2019 tour so not sure if you’ve seen that yet? STAR TREK MASTERPOST
hi my name is liz and i'm watching the entirety of star trek in release order, so this post was SIGH inevitable. i will edit with updates it as i make more
FANFIC
Gambler's Knife - AOS, Spirk, 22k. Twelve years after Tarsus IV and three months after dying to realign the warp core and save his ship, Jim Kirk seems to have a new lease on life: he's been resurrected, started pursuing a tentative new relationship with Spock, and has an entire five-year mission ahead of him. That is, until the attempted murder of an old friend forces him to divert the Enterprise away from her intended course and towards Planet Q. After a chance encounter on the planet's surface, new secrets about Jim's time on Tarsus IV come to light—secrets that threaten to destroy everyone he fought to protect, and the new life he's finally achieved. Some things you carry with you wherever you go.
SKIP/WATCH LIST
as i watch star trek, i am making an incredibly detailed spreadsheet which aims to guide new people into what to watch...or what not to watch. this list includes every single movie and tv series (including the animated ones), multiple watch orders (release order vs chronological order), runtimes, content warnings, and indicators on which characters feature in which episodes + indicators on which episodes are important for continuity. the only catch is i am updating it as i go, so it's a verrry slow work in progress. i've also still got a few blanks in the tos bit.
currently the only tumblr post with a link is this one, but i'll make a better post once i've finished going back and filling in the blanks on the tos section.
EPISODE REWRITES
sometimes star trek makes me crazy and i wanna fix it, but i don't have the time or patience to rewrite it in fic form so we get tumblr posts instead. they are in the order that i did them. right now there are only a few but i want to do like a thousand
[tos] the motion picture
[tos] the tholian web
[tng] violations
META
these are mostly small posts for now. someday i might make big ones.
marrying a vulcan is not unlike being a horsegirl
tos kirk on retirement vs aos kirk on the infinity of the universe

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE SPACE BABES - kirk's encounters with women are often nonconsensual (collaboration with @maulthots)
funniest possible pre-mcspirk situation in aos
aos plot devices we could have had
small post about vulcans getting drunk on chocolate the first time
GRAPHICS
most of these are shitposts.

CLIPS
i make clip shows sometimes.
bones being possessed in search for spock
