cool little detail is how the game shows you the Haligtree before you even enter Leyndell

this one dinky lil lookout tower outside the northern gate is oriented perfectly to show you the Haligtree through the holes on your way up

and another opening right where you open a chest, so you have to pause at a perfect spot for the animation

the fog hides it so you won't notice it unless you're attentive, but it also serves to emphasize how the Haligtree is visibly material & real, distinct from the Erdtree's magic hologram-ey look.

and also you can tell its very big in comparison to the Minor Erdtree right behind you

and less healthy :(

I'm thinking about the haligtree and how there's the portion that is braced by elphael, the portion where miquella was meant to be residing. but the part that we reach is the canopy and if you look at the canopy and it's all rotted.... as you come down from the canopy to reach elphael you see that the portion w miquella it's actually stunted and cut off it hasn't finished growing upwards and it was growing up*right* but it stopped, whereas it's literally twinned, or it's split off into this other half of the tree which is bent and crooked and rotten and that's just

MALENIA AND MIQUELLA yknow

and you have to get to miquella thru MALENIA

makes me really think about the dlc promo image of that bent tree

but like. if we allow the premise that Miquella's outward dream was a good one(i think there's a case to be made it is the good one but ignoring that)... why was the type of world Miquella wanted to build so fundamentally incompatible with Ranni's Age of Stars?

because like. it must have been. completely and irrevocably. because if it weren't ranni had to say one(1) thing to build a pretty unshakeable alliance with Miquella and Malenia. Ranni's thing is literally that she discarded her flesh and became a magic robot to escape the influence of outer gods

sounds familiar right

the unalloyed gold and Haligtree stuff that Miquella literally destroyed himself trying to make work could've been ENTIRELY sidestepped had he access to the Carian/Stargazer technology that allowed Ranni to do her thing. He and Malenia were one charity away from being free of their curses and Ranni specifically- well she knows how to extract an Empyrean's soul and put it somewhere safe from outer god mind-rape. but she didn't share it

Ranni had the ability to treat with the other 2 empyreans with an offer they, terribly cursed as they were, could not have refused. but she didnt.

and this is a woman who is "ends justify the means;" she must have known her plot would result in the horror of the Shattering because 1) she is a clever little rascal and 2) she bet on it, because the warring of the others allowed her to pull ahead in the game of godhood

so if part of the means to the end entails condemning people to the fate she desperately sought to avoid, and neglecting a path that would have cut short the Shattering (a Miquellan/Malenia/Ranni bloc could not possibly have lost even if it were pyrrhic there would be a victor). what does that imply about her ends, if something there had to be eliminated? if the means of "compromise with a good faith actor" is untenable?

this isn't me trying to start anything but. just to voice the thought for the sake of analysis--

i think this is a part of why in-universe Ranni and her plans are suspect. yes, she protests visible gods and Miquella is the messiah, but she also seeks primarily to make herself god, only an unseeable one. What that translates to is she wants to dictate reality from a station she cannot be removed from.

Presuming Ranni does want and intend to improve the lives of the downtrodden(conjecture), and understanding that Miquella does improve those lives(observation), there's only one meaningful difference between herself and Miquella: Miquella would place his own seat of power within reach of the people of the Lands Between. Inadvertantly or not, Miquella would be able to be removed should the people wish it, Ranni could only be impeded because she just wants to be an Outer God

The answer to the question of why Ranni could not abide an alliance or compromise with Miquella, then, can only be concluded as the following: Miquella was creating the sole means to interdict the god Ranni wished to become
