Fun Facts

I chose my name as a reminder of my goals. “Archer” because it takes practice and discipline to learn archery, while also suggesting you should always keep your target in sight. “Sims” because one meaning is “he who listens”, and I’m here to learn as much as I can through as many means as possible.

I enjoy scary and horror podcasts and stories, but also get spooked really easily by them. I talk a big game but am actually a weanie.

I’m an avid gamer - TTRPGs, LARP, video games, board games, etc. In fact, I met my partner through a local LARP.

I am very much an animal person, but my favorite animals are urban “trash” critters, like opossums, racoons, rats, crows, etc. I’m also weak to baby animals of any species.

If money were no object, I would start paying off folks' student loans. I believe education should be accessible, not crippling.

I read and write a lot of sci-fi and fantasy.

Watch documentaries about nature and animals (the weirder the better), serial killers, and anything else that catches my interest.

Play video games! My favorites are Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, Skyrim, the Persona series, the Mass Effect series, the Horizon series, and Kingdom hearts 1 & 2. I’m also a sucker for a good VN (my current favorite is Jack Jeanne) and musou games.

Practice mixed media art.

Favorite Movies & Shows

Movies: Alita: Battle Angel, Pacific Rim, Cloud Atlas, Stardust, Aliens, Star Wars, Wonder Woman, most of the MCU, too many animated films, and a lot of the classic B&W monster movies.

Shows: Ghosts, Sense8, Futurama, Mythbusters, Dr. Who, Star Trek, Twin Peaks, Dark Shadows (the original), Great British Baking Show, pretty much anything with Gordon Ramsey, and a lot of anime (like Digimon Adventure) and American cartoons (like Steven Universe, The Owl House, and Gravity Falls).

Charging Magical Tools

Be it wands, herbs, altar pieces, crystals, or anything you use in your practice, it will need cleansing and charging. 

For thing that need to be charged with intent, like herbs and mantras, there are many ways to do it but starting can be a little... well, confusing. After all, no one ever taught you how to put your energy into  something that doesn’t have any in itself. Hopefully, my beginning tricks can help you learn a few of your own, or spark some research.

remember that some things like wands, crystals, and various other items need to be in moonlight, sunlight, darkness, etc depending on their types and uses. Do your research on what your tools need individually.  

Also remember to always practice in a cleansed, protected place!

How I charge my tools and trinkets: I often cleanse my area and meditate for a few minutes until I can feel my thoughts slowing down and my breathing gets deeper. I have ADHD, so I know how difficult it can be for some people: just remember that practice makes perfect! 

Then, it’s pretty simple: I cup the object in my hands, or I hold them with both if the item is too large, and close my eyes. I focus on two things: breathing evenly, and feeling the item in my hands. If it’s a pile of dried herbs, I run my thumbs through it so I can feel the grains and textures. Then, it’s a matter of envisioning my energy. 

For me, I like to imagine a little glow in my chest, and I imagine it slowly reaching out through my shoulders, down my arms, and pooling into my palms. I hold onto the item and let it soak up that glow. Sometimes i can tell when it’s done charging - other times, I just have to cut it off and hope for the best. Of course, I can always charge more later. 

After that, I usually let the item breathe for five or ten minutes before putting it to use. 

Remember that while you do continuously make energy, you can use it faster than you make it. Remember to slow down when you get tired, get plenty of rest, and don’t charge more than you can afford. Fatigue is a common enemy.
