Spooky house sewing machine cover
I bought myself a new sewing machine this week as my old one finally died. No doubt because it was fairly cheap it came without a cover. I therefore had a perfect opportunity to use this Halloween house fabric I've had for ages to make one. I think it must have been intended for quilting, but luckily the way I cut my pattern meant I could preserve most of the design.
There are plenty of tutorials for making a sewing machine cover on YouTube so I won't get into specifics, but essentially it just involves taking the measurements of your machine and creating a box-like shape out of your fabric to cover it.
Most of these tutorials are designed so you can leave the machine set up and just lift the cover off when you want to use it, but as my desk is often in use for other things I wanted a cover that is more like a bag with a top so I can put it away.
They also mostly recommend lining it with quilt batting, however being an avid thrifter instead I just bought a thin quilt from a charity shop for £4. You can pay more than that per metre for batting, and I have tons left over for other projects!
Anyhoo, after sewing my bits together it looked like this. The dimensions were fine but it's not very solid.
But, since the machine is brand new I still had the box it came in, so I cut bits of card to insert between the outer fabric and the lining in the sides and front and back to help it stand up. Now it looks like this:
The only remaining bit to do is neaten up those edges!
I'm really pleased that I managed to cut the original fabric piece in such a way the the bits of house nearly fit together.
Bonus: if I do ever want to leave my machine set up, like if I'm halfway through a job or something, I can just flip the cover upside down and pop it over the top, and I get to see the rest of the design on the fabric.
I may also put a pocket on the outside for the pedal so I don't have to cram it under the machine arm when I put it away.

When I drew that version of Aureliuwu last Halloween I became obsessed with that orange with bats and skulls as a onesie. So I designed it and made it on Spoonflower 😝 So now I'm gonna order like ten feet of fleece and get fucking cozy!

I haven't made an outfit for Xavier in forever, let alone something for his whole little family, so I'm going to do something inspired by the Good Omens 1827 lines.

Hand drawn and hand printed stork embroidery scissors on a cedar orange quilting cotton. This color combo was one of my favs out of this run because they remind me of ravens and halloween. This colorway and a few others are available over on firesidetextiles.com.
