Summary: Lewis Hamilton is part-time Formula One driver and full-time fashion icon. And so is his girlfriend, Y/N Y/L/N, who's also known as a real life Barbie.

Warnings: None... but a lot of pink XD. Also this story is set in December 2023, so no broken hearts over Lewis going to Ferrari... actually maybe just a little teaser.

Author's Note: Hi Anon! This request is great and thank you so much for it, it definitely is good enough! :) I had fun writing and creating this, even though at the end it's kind of different than what I firstly intended to do. The original idea was to make Y/N very Barbie coded, but at the end I'd say she's Barbie inspired and I focused more on the fashion icon part of the request. Though there's a sweet storyline about why her nickname is Barbie, so I hope you won't be disappointed! :)

On This Day in F1: March 24th

Present: Australian Grand Prix

History: 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix

On March 24th, 2024, the Australian Grand Prix occurred. After last years Aus GP, most people expected craziness and the Williams lack of third chassis had delivered some of that craziness.

However the main story was Max Verstappen having his first retirement since the 2022 Australian Grand Prix - marking his 43 race streak and preventing him from matching his 10 win streak. Carlos Sainz overtook Verstappen as his car was failing and held the lead for the rest of the race with Charles Leclerc coming in second for a Ferrari 1-2 and Lando Norris on the last step of the podium.

The other big race retirement was Lewis Hamilton due to his engine giving out. Then there were the extremely long Sauber pit stops which gave us a lesser version of the 2020 Ham-Ver-Bot (or any other variation of it) podiums.

And on the last lap, George Russell crashed which was honestly terrifying to see because he was in the middle of the track and the car was on its side. Luckily, Lance Stroll was far back enough that he could be told about Russell in the middle of the track and to take precautions to avoid Russell.

Eleven years ago, Formula One was racing in Malaysia. Most people remember Malaysia for the Red Bull drama with Multi-21. This makes sense because it is a very memorable moment in time and we got the iconic "I was racing, I was faster, I passed him, I won," quote from Sebastian Vettel when he was asked about overtaking his teammate despite being told to not overtake.

(sidenote: Seb's words were true then and they remain true now. You're racing, if you're faster then pass him and win the race. There is a place for team orders, but in at least half of the cases where drivers ask about team orders now, they are not necessary if you're the faster driver. Just pass your teammate.)

While the drama about team orders and Multi-21 was going on at Red Bull, Lewis Hamilton drove into the wrong pit box. It was Hamilton's first season with Mercedes after 6 years with McLaren F1 and a total of 13 years with McLaren.

Both McLaren and Mercedes were prepared for their drivers to pull into the pit box, but McLaren was not expecting their previous driver to stop there. However, Hamilton was able to quickly leave the pit box and go to the Mercedes pit box which luckily was after the McLaren pit box, not before.

Hamilton did end up finishing 3rd in the race and apologized for the gaffe. Jokingly, he said, "I did a Jenson (Button). He did that a couple of years ago, but big apologies to the team." Referring to Jenson Button at the 2011 Chinese GP where he pulled into the Red Bull pit box instead of the McLaren pit box.

You have me more than intrigued me. Do you know if anyone is posting Della Street scenes from Perry Mason? I gave up on HBO awhile ago but I may have to reup if this one proves engrossing enough. How procedural is the show on the whole? I love a good period mystery.

I couldn't find any scenes, of Della herself or of the ship(s). It's especially hard to find stuff about just the HBO series when the original was so iconic.

The show as a whole is....the first season started off as the most stereotypical cliched version of modern reboots as you could find, a dark, grim slow origin story where the thing the character is known for only happens near the end.

I'm not sure how much you know about the original series, well, we'll put aside the books, but the actual first show started airing all the way back in the '50s and it was really popular, and Della Street was a badass even then The show ended a few years later but was so popular, the same actors came back for a series of TV movies that basically acted liked more episodes, all the way from 1985 to 1995. So I guess the modern era isn't the only one doing these reboots. :P

But anyway, the original show was more of a classic procedural, each ep would have Perry, a defense lawyer, defending a client and figuring out a way to prove their innocence and get them off. The new HBO series has had one case a season so far, and there's no real guarantee that Perry'll be able to successfully defend their case, the tone is more cynical.

It is a pure mystery per season, though, as much as it may look like it's more a character introspection. It's a lot more realistic in terms of racism, sexism, and of course, with the changing of Della to a lesbian, homophobia. Perry himself is suffering PTSD after the war, he starts off as a private investigator so we see how it comes to happen that he becomes a lawyer.

Della's too main a character to do all her individual scenes, but I'd actually uploaded some of these short scenes for my friend (who then went back to watch the whole show herself) but maybe this will give you a good idea of what the show's about:

The 24-year-old has carved out a career in the motorsport for himself, taking his place amongst the ranks at Mercedes as their main reserve driver this season and was given the privilege to drive at the iconic yearly festival. Schumacher Snr is still regarded as one of the greatest ever F1 drivers, winning seven world championship titles, a feat only matched by current Silver Arrows star Lewis Hamilton. The German driver joined the Mercedes paddock in the final years of his stellar career, racing for the team in their first three seasons between 2010 and 2012 and played a major part in the team's transformation from grid infants to giants. His retirement was shadowed by a tragic skiing accident a year later that he is still recovering from and requires round the clock support for. According to Elizabeth and Hamilton's grandson, Allan McLane, the most accurate in Hamilton's likeness was James Sharples's and John Trumbull's;

"Most of the portraits of Alexander Hamilton, of which there seem to be many, are inartistic and disagreeable, because of their crudity and ugliness, a large number being the work of the peripatetic painters who flourished during the early part of the century, and up to the discovery of Daguerre. Exceptions, however, are the portraits of Trumbull and Sharples. The work of the former is characterized by its dash and spirit, and an artistic excellence which is generally conceded. The merit of the work of the latter lies chiefly in the fidelity of the likeness. The Trumbull portraits of Hamilton are well known, that belonging to the New York Chamber of Commerce having been often copied and engraved. The Sharples portrait, which is here presented, has never been reproduced.”

“James Sharples (or Sharpless), an Englishman, came to the United States in 1796, and won im- mediate popularity through the novelty and cleverness of his profile pastel portraits. That of Washington was followed by many others of persons identified with the Revolution. This picture of Hamilton is from one of his few portraits in oil, a small cabinet picture measuring eight by ten inches, which was owned by my grandmother, Mrs. Alexander Hamilton, who survived her husband fifty-two years, and died in the city of New York in 1856, at the age of ninety-seven years. She bequeathed it to my father, the late Philip Hamilton, who was their youngest son. She always maintained that the Sharples portrait was the only satisfactory likeness she had known. So far as I can learn, it was painted when Hamilton was about thirty-nine years old, and after he had retired from the treasury and had resumed the practice of law in New York.”

There is actually a matching portrait by Sharples of Elizabeth too, although Trumbull's is arguably the most beloved and is usually the iconic one you will see whenever searching around Hamilton on the internet.

But of course, there is also the unforgettable marbel bust of Hamilton. By Ceracchi, who was a sculptor from Rome who had proposed to Congress a memorial to the American Revolution, however Congress would decide against his proposal. But that was after he would sculp several prominent figures like; Washington, Jefferson, and as we all know, Hamilton. In July 1792, Ceracchi wrote Hamilton that he was “impatient to receive the clay that I had the satisfaction of forming from your witty and significant physiognomy”. When Ceracchi heard the memorial proposal was rejected, he sent the completed busts to each of his models in 1794. But also hilariously sent them each a bill for the work they didn't ask for. And while Washington tried to return the bust rather than pay that outrageously for a marbel copy of his face, Hamilton shamelessly paid $620 “for this sum through delicacy paid upon cherachi’s draft for making my bust on his own importunity & as a favour to him.” because he wanted that bust for himself if he could.

The Hamilton family kept the bust until 1896 when they donated it to the New York Public Library, there is also a copy on display at the Grange. This bust would be utilized as a common reference for Hamilton's appearance posthumously; Trumbull used the bust as model for a series of 1804-1808 portraits of Hamilton (Example above). And the first US Postal Service stamp to honor Hamilton was an 1870 30-cent stamp using this bust as a model. Also in 1880 while the bust was owned by Hamilton's son, John Church Hamilton, he lended it so it could be used as a model for the head of the granite statue of Hamilton by Carl Conrads.
