#hana being the elder sister who gives out 'helpful' tips
incorrect-natshig · 3 years
Note
hhhhh i kinda wanna jump on the whole “telling you our natshig au ideas” thing so here i go (i’m gonna try and write a fic about this but i tend to get burnt out after the first chapter so here’s hoping i follow through because i really like this one)
ok so natsuo and tenko meet at a park when they’re around 2 after hana jumps at one of those poles on a climbing frame and hits her head and touya (who’d been playing with her and fuyumi) laughs so hard he falls off too. so obviously rei and nao rush over to see if they’re ok with natsuo and tenko following them like little ducks. once they get there rei and nao recognise eachother since they were friends in school but lost contact after rei married enji
so the mums stay in contact and have play dates for the kids and thus begins a natshig friendship (with touya and hana being very aggressive best friends as well)
so one day natsuo says to tenko that if endeavour ever hit him then he’d run away to tenkos house. tenko of course thinks this is a great idea and remembers that when he’s outside crying after his dad hits him
so little tenko picks himself up and toddles on over to the todoroki household with mon following him on his adventure
hana comes out, can’t find her brother, and promptly loses her shit and her mum soon follows and eventually kotaro comes down, sees the side gate open and (quite understandably) believes his son has been kidnapped when in reality he’s skipping away to his friends house
by the time tenko gets to the todorokis, rei knows that he’s missing and near has a heart attack when he shows up at her door
luckily the only casualties of tenkos quirk is a few toys, so significantly less trauma. nao is still pissed at tenko for scaring her so bad so he is grounded but at least he’s not an orphan! :D
fast forward a few years and natshig are minding their own business when they see some guys trying to grab a kid and natsuo decides to punch the shit out of them. they then decide to become vigilantes since tenko has a “villainous” quirk and natsuo has no quirk at all and they don’t think any hero course will take them
the end up bumping into dabi who cant very well just leave his brother with next to no street smarts so he teaches the boys hand to hand and how to not get arrested
of course these dumbasses end up arrested by eraserhead
in exchange for letting them go and not saying anything, aizawa makes them take the entrance exam with the promise that they’re basically guaranteed a place so he can nurture their heroic spirit or whatever
so tenkos family is mostly supportive since hana is going into her third year there and nao divorced kotaro after he refused to take responsibility for tenko running away, but obviously endeavour isn’t too happy about natsuo and says he won’t survive and will be dropping out in no time
dabi is annoyed they got caught, but willing to support them anyway
they both end up graduating, but not before natsuo snitches on endeavour to aizawa and he helps fuyumi get custody of her brothers and a steady income so she can provide for them
endeavour gets arrested and dabi goes home because endeavour may not be dead but he is in jail and all that time spent with natsuo and tenko unfroze his cold dead heart so he just wants his siblings back
cue emotional reunion cut short by hana drop kicking the poor man for not at least leaving ominous notes pretending to be a ghost
that’s basically it and actually writing that gave me a smidge of motivation to write it so maybe i’ll do it??? i’ll sign this in case i do and you or someone else wants to read it when i write it

Seung Hall
The RP world in which this character exists is a blend of magic and technology. Magic is essentially owned by 7 different factions and Seung belongs to (and now leads) the Garnet faction, which grants users powers revolving around electricity and is associated with chaos. Furthermore, the Garnet faction are not just united by their abilities but they also form the nation’s largest thieving guild.
As far as the culture works in this world, Seung is from a mixed family with a mother from Kensuke (a region with Korean/Japanese influences) while his father is from Ambrosia (a region with Germanic influences). Despite the differences in culture, being of a mixed family is not a particular problem for the most part as these two regions in particular have been united for well over 200 years and have integrated very well. So their cultures are not as distinct anymore and instead they’ve sort of merged to form a new culture. There are forms of discrimination he would face if he weren’t in either of these regions but he has not experienced that yet.
Name: Seung Hall
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Occupation: Head of the Thieves’ Guild ‘Magpies’ Claws’ and the Garnet Guardian.
Appearance: Seung has always thought about his looks. No matter how he’s feeling, where he is or the situation he’s in- so long as he looks good, then he’s off to a good start. He holds himself like a King- shoulders back, chin up and moves effortlessly with fluid movements. He dresses smart too; characteristically wearing a shirt, waistcoat, black trousers, a long coat and never leaves without completing the look with a stylish hat. Seung was born with his father’s striking ginger hair and has let it grow in unruly waves just past his shoulders. He doesn’t touch it aside from giving it a brush in the morning and tying it back when he’s exercising. He has a handsome heart-shaped face with a thin nose. His narrow eyes are distinctly angular and the cold sea grey colour matches his usual scowl or smirk perfectly. Seung is and always has been rather short (much to his annoyance). He stands at 161 cm- a good head or two beneath most people around him. It’s never helped him come across as intimidating or scary. To try and fix that, he’s spent hours exercising and training to give him a muscular and athletic touch. Though he struggles to look like he exercises at all. His lack of any obvious muscles and long limbs give him a gangly look. Even so, his training has paid off to some extent as he is far stronger than you expect .
Abilities: Seung uses his abilities to charge a plain silver ring he wears so that he can deliver an electric shock when it touches someone else. As a guardian, his power increased so that each shock slows his opponents slightly as well.
Strengths: Cunning, Decisive, Manipulative, Loyal and Playful.
Flaws: Short-Tempered, Impatient, Impulsive, Disorganised and an Addict.
Likes: Drinking, Cities, Gambling, Hats, Books (poetry in particular), Money, Thieves’ guild, Night.
Dislikes: Animals, Tall people, Nobles, Offices, Apples, Spring season (due to hay allergy), Anyone who dares to mess with the guild.
Personality: In short: Seung is a wildcard. Is it a good idea to have someone as unpredictable and impulsive as the leader of Fiacra’s largest thieves’ guild? Probably not. But somehow, he makes it work. The one thing that crosses his mind when he makes a decision is the wellbeing of everyone in the guild. Not their reputation or how well off they’ll be- just whether or not they’ll be safe. Other than that, his actions completely depends on how he feels in the moment (his drinking addiction adds an extra measure of unpredictability). He has a very short temper and is easily provoked or taunted. Although dealing with his anger is something you’ll want to think twice about. His proficiency in martial arts, speed and cunning make him a formidable foe.
Seung has no care for what others think about him or his reputation. He is willing to lie, cheat and play as dirty as he can so long as it is in his best interest. The only line he will not cross is murder and he does not intend to cross it unless forced to do so. On the other hand, he takes a very playful approach to taking people’s money, flirting with danger far more often than he should. He has a way with words and a certain degree of charm that usually get him out of serious trouble. Years of practice have left him a very good liar.
Secretly, Seung has a bit of a creative side to him as well. He enjoys reading and has only just started trying to write his own stories and poems. He still has a long way to go before he’s ready to let anyone read them but that isn’t stopping him from trying. He has some raw talent as a singer too, though despises practising in public… Unless he’s had a few and it’s karaoke night at the pub. Unfortunately, his atrocious dancing seems to detract from his singing skills at this point.
As a leader, it’s fairly obvious that Seung was not a born one; He’s far too impulsive and immature. On top of that, he often gets called out for his lack of organisation and relies on others to remember key dates and keep track of paperwork. But he loves the guild and Seung would undoubtedly risk life and limb for them. And combining that with his ambition and drive, the guild has not only stayed afloat but has excelled under his lead.
Family:
Robert Hall – father
Kyung Hall – mother
Hana Hall – elder sister
Backstory: The Hall family started out fairly humble, Kyung had moved to a small city in Ambrosia from a remote fishing village in Kensuke with her lover, Robert Hall. They started up their own business together and married a year later. Their first daughter was Hana and they raised her to be a fine and respectable young lady. 10 years along the line and Seung was born. At this stage, the Hall family were respected luxury good sellers and had a place in high society. There was no need for them to slave away after Seung’s every needs as they could now pay for someone to do it for them. The alternative was not brilliant for Seung. The nanny they had hired, Anna Carrell stole from the house and even roped Seung into helping her and her scams when she took him out for walks. With few opportunities to talk to his busy family, they remained oblivious to it all. So Seung didn’t bring it up and instead asked for a share of what Anna was making. All was well until he was caught in the act of stealing for the first time when he was 14. He told the authorities that Anna had put him up to it but she denied all accusations and piled on many more charges. Outraged, his parents refused to help Seung and let him serve 3 months in juvenile detention. After spending two months in detention, he had a strange dream– he was wandering through the capital when a magpie landed on his shoulder and granted him power beyond belief. When he awoke, an electrical malfunction had shut down security allowing him and a handful of others to slip away. With nowhere to go, Seung headed for the only place he could think of: Silverhil, the country’s capital. He lived the next year of his life on doorsteps and street corners; begging, stealing and picking up odd jobs to keep himself afloat. His luck changed unexpectedly after he was caught stealing from an elderly gentleman but instead of receiving a beating, he received an invitation to The Red Nest, a pub at the heart of the city that was owned by the largest thieving guild in Fiacra: Magpies’ Claws. Being pitifully small, Seung was picked on a fair bit. Often in a playful manner but that didn’t make a difference to him. He hated people looking down on him and so he started learning all the skills he needed to succeed. He received tips, help and advice from a number of his elders and they took him out on jobs as a way for him to earn some extra cash. It only hit him a couple of months later how much they had helped him stand up on his feet. He was given a silver ring by the guild leader after he completed his first job alone and was fully accepted into the guild. He excelled over the next few years and started moving away from creeping in the shadows and started taking on more jobs as a swindler or hustler, tricking people out of their money in broad daylight. He also started to gamble, learning how to count cards and play dirty. Soon he was raking in enough cash to brush up his looks so nobody would pick on him for it anymore. Seung worked his way up the ranks of the guild and at the age of 23, the previous Guardian was caught and killed by the Blue Guard. 6 months later, Seung became the Garnet guardian. He didn’t care for the title at first, not wanting the responsibility of having to look after everyone in the guild, so he left it to the others to sort everything. But as time has gone by, he became used to the title and has started taking care of business himself. In the past two years, he’s been pushing the Magpies to increase their influence over Silverhill.
————————-
I was worried that this character is falling a little in that I’ve made him too much like your typical 'loveable rogue’. I don’t want to make him evil but I would like his rough couple of years living alone and feeling somewhat abandoned to really show through his personality and in his actions. I feel I may be hiding it too well for the moment, which just gives him a feel that’s almost too polished? Does he need more of a balance between showing his good and bad traits?
I was also a little worried that his backstory doesn’t flow very well and I was wondering if you had any tips for that!
Thanks for all your help in advance X
Hi there! This is a very well-written profile. As it currently stands, the only thing I would change about it is the addition of more details concerning Seung's relationships with his family. I can understand wanting to leave that information vague because of what you included in his backstory, but it might help flesh him out more if you added in information like what he remembers about his family, his impressions of them, whether he's ever seen them again (or prevented people from stealing from them? or encouraged it?) and other such information. It looks like he inherited his drive and ambition from his parents, so that could be something worth mentioning, too.
With that said, I'm going to focus on the questions you asked. His backstory seems fine to me - there are no obvious gaps, and he goes from one place and one position in life to another in a very logical manner. The thing I'm struggling to see here is how his personality impacted the choices he made, and vice versa: did he ever consider that stealing is wrong as a child who had everything? Did it make a difference to him? How has that affected him as an adult - does he follow a code of some kind, or is anyone and anything fair game? Is Seung a violent person? Does he prefer to have others do his dirty work? When it comes to stealing, is he more about opportunity ("Oh look, I'll just pocket this shiny thing I came across") or does he plan his thefts carefully ("I know this family has this thing in their vault, so here's how I'm going to get it...")? I'd also like to see some mention of the people around him, who he relies on to "remember key dates and keep track of paperwork". Does he have a trusted second-in-command? Are there any traitors in the group he's aware of? What about people he considers friends?
This can also help with your "lovable rogue" problem. You've talked a little about how the people around Seung see him, but you haven't gone into specifics. If you can show your audience how his negative traits impact and inconvenience the people around him, despite his good qualities, you can achieve a better balance of "good" and "bad". It also might help to play up the types of strategies and traits that develop from time spent alone in the world, such as not trusting any one person with too much information, not sharing personal information, always having a back-up weapon or escape route, etc. Aside from that, remember, every trait has a positive and a negative side. Ambition can be ruthlessness. Intelligence can lead to paranoia. Compassion can cause one to make illogical decisions. How those things manifest in your character and in your story is up to you, but don't be afraid to explore them!
This was a really interesting profile for me on a lot of levels, and as I said, it's really quite well-written. Should you decide to revise it to add more information, I'd love to see it again in the future. For now, I hope this helps, and good luck!
