⚣ Domestic Living With Jason 🩳
Tumblr media
⚣🩳 A/N → I'm physically incapable of writing anything under 500 words. But, this was inspired by my love of compression shirts (especially the Under Armor ones and how I would do exactly this if my boyfriend tried to walk out wearing one). May start a series off this, we'll see. Warnings: Domestic Vibes. Married Energy. Suggestive Langauge. Swearing. Petty Jason.
⚣🩳 Summary → Domestic life is something. Domestic life with Jason Todd is another thing. One moment, you're ready to fight this man. Next moment, you're ready to fight this man. *wink wink* Wait, hold up. Jason, what the hell are you wearing?!

“Jason, hurry up! I need to get back so I can finish this essay.” Y/N yelled from the living room of his and his boyfriend’s shared apartment.
If you asked him a year ago what he figured living with his boyfriend would be like, he’d more than likely answer with a lot of freaking sex. Of course, other things came with it, but that was the first thing that always came to mind.
It also came with a lot of stay-at-home dates. Jason was unsurprisingly a natural homebody and loved to spend his evenings when he could with his lovely boyfriend cuddled against his body while watching a movie or playing a game and munching down on some takeout.
Truthfully, it was nice seeing how Jason was in a domestic situation. It served as a reminder to Y/N that under all those scars, grumpiness, and tough exterior was just a boy who wanted to be loved.
On the other end, living with Jason made Y/N take a long, hard look in the mirror and reflect on all the bad habits he had when living at home with his parents and starting college. For example, time management…
Before he started dating Jason, Y/N was the kind of person who waited till twenty minutes before he had to leave to start getting dressed. Whenever someone would text him and ask for his location, he’d respond telling them he was leaving the house now.
Then, when he was actually leaving the house and they’d text him again, he’d respond saying he was on the freeway. Truly, the best example of what not to do when he wanted to be on time somewhere.
After he started dating Jason though, and especially when they moved in together, Y/N sent a long apology to his parents who had tried for years to teach him better time management. The crazy thing about that was when they asked him why he was apologizing and he explained that Jason’s time management made him look like an angel, they didn’t believe him!
In their eyes, Jason was a saint who could do no wrong. Which was ironic considering Y/N’s dad promised to castrate any man who dared even look his son’s way. And his mom, well, not sure that’s really appropriate to mention.
Yet, when it came to Mr. Jason Peter Todd, he might as well have been hand-delivered from God himself. Maybe it was because his boyfriend could and would be late to anything else in the world (Lord knows Bruce went through hell and back just to get him to be on time for family dinner), but if it was anything involving Mr. and Mrs. Y/L/N, he was twenty minutes early with a gift he picked up from the local Target.
It also could be that Jason was the world’s biggest kiss-ass (when he needed to be) and used that to wrap Y/N’s parents around his finger. Either or…
But now, since they were only going to the gym, Jason was of course taking his sweet time to get ready, which, every passing second was another snap of one of Y/N’s nerves. Truthfully, he would’ve just grabbed his keys and left without him, but the last time he did that, Jason went and bought a steering-wheel clutch to put on his car and hid the keys from him for two weeks.
Another thing Y/N’s parents would never believe about their son’s beloved boyfriend; the fucker was petty as hell.
“I’m coming, babe! Be out in a sec,” Jason yelled from behind their bedroom door.
“You said that five minutes ago!”
“Sorry, I don’t recall. Maybe you imagined it.”
This gaslighting motherfu–
Y/N had to take a deep breath to calm his growing impulsive need to bust down that door and slap the fuck out of his boyfriend’s neck. It didn’t help…
“You can’t hit your boyfriend. You can’t hit your boyfriend. You can’t hit your boyfriend,” Y/N mumbled to himself while tapping his foot against the floor repeatedly to distract himself from the ticking seconds passing by in his mind.
Two minutes later, the door opened and revealed his tall and bulky man looking ever so fresh and handsome. Though Y/N was still irritated beyond belief, the sight of his boyfriend’s handsome face who grew a smile and twinkle in his eyes when he looked at him always managed to dissipate his temper.
Not by much though. Jason’s neck still looked like a very bright and large target just waiting for a good sting from the palm of his hands.
Maybe Tim was right, they were a match made in heaven just off violent tendencies alone.
“That was not a sec,” Y/N reprimanded in a grumble.
Jason’s smile turned into a self-satisfied grin while he walked past his boyfriend to their coat closet, grabbing his abnormally large gym shoes. Seriously, what size is this man’s foot?
“Hey, it’s not my fault you waited till the last day to finish your homework.” He replied while tying his shoe.
“Um, actually it is. Every time I tried to sit down and work on it, you’d either start complaining about how I wasn’t paying any attention to you or you’d get randomly horny and start touching me in ways that shall not be named and I’d end up with your dick inside me.”
Y/N immediately regretted his words when he saw how Jason looked up from finishing his last shoe, a lustful blown look on his face as he eyed his body up and down. Thankfully, he didn’t seem like he was about to act on his impulses as he kept tying his shoe without looking before standing back up.
Why was that hot?
“Sounds like you need to practice self-control, sir.”
Oh, no he didn’t.
“Sir, I was already tempted to smack the back of your neck before. I beg you to not increase that urge.”
“Do it. I dare you,” Jason challenged, standing right in front of him with his towering frame. The tone in his voice and the look on his face were signaling something that Y/N was very tempted to answer, but he had to keep rationality in the forefront of his mind.
“You not worth it,” He responded, side-stepping him while going to grab his jacket.
“Yeah, that’s what I thought.”
Tumblr media
“Sir, don’t get fu–”
It was at that moment Y/N took a full look at his boyfriend, specifically what he was wearing. And while the sight was something he wouldn’t mind staring at, he definitely didn’t want other people staring at him.
“Excuse me, but what in the hell are you wearing?” Y/N asked, still looking him up and down.
Jason looked confused for a moment, also looking at his outfit, not seeing what the problem was.
“Um, a shirt and sweats? Is this a trick question or,”
“Why is it so tight? Who are you trying to show off for?”
This man was wearing a black compression shirt and gray joggers like it was just a regular Sunday. The Lord is watching, how dare he?!
Jason’s smirk immediately came back when he realized what he was really about, “Oh, what? I can’t wear tight clothes now to the gym?”
“Not unless you want me to fight bitches. Because, just in case you forgot, I do fight bitches.”
“Language, or I’m telling mom. And I like it when you fight over me,” He said while grabbing at Y/N’s waist.
He immediately popped the vigilante’s hands off him, “Don’t involve my mother in and hands off mister.”
“Our mother, thank you,” Jason corrected.
“It’s giving incestuous, and last time I checked, there is no ring on this finger and my last name is not Todd.”
“Don’t tempt me.”
Y/N was sat.
“I-, that was really hot and we’re gonna move on from that,” Y/N responded, and Jason once again had a cocky smirk on his face. Lord knows this man was more than likely dead serious. He’d drop everything and drive to a ring shop right now.
“Anyway, you need to go change sir. I don’t need them dirty, mud-bathing rats staring at what is for my eyes only.” Y/N responded, pointing back to their bedroom waiting for Jason to move.
“Oh, so I need to go change, but when you were wearing those tiny shorts, showing off what’s supposed to be for my eyes only, I got told to mind the business that pays me,” Jason asked with a laugh.
“Are you on my payroll?” Y/N questioned.
“No.”
“My point still stands.”
“You think you’re funny,”
“I think I’m hilarious, actually. In fact, I’m so funny, I’m going to get the extra small shorts I just got in the mail since you want to play with me.” Y/N turned around and sprinted for their bedroom.
“Oh, I’ll play all day,” Jason mumbled under his breath before throwing their gym bags down to the ground and kicking off his shoes before following his boyfriend into the room.
They did not make it to the gym, but they definitely got their workout in.

My Friend's Toyota III
Read the rest here: My Friend's Toyota
~8.9k words
Warnings: Jealous Harry, a little pugnacious today. Nothing crazy, I hope. Mostly silly fluff
This is a bit all over the place. (A filler episode, if you will.) The next (and last part) will be more put together I promise.
-
She brought their hands to her cold lips and kissed the back of his hand. Harry was certain he was going to start sweating with how warm the gesture was and he couldn’t bring himself to care about how ridiculous it all was.
Tumblr media
When the seasons change / Can I still hold your hand? / When we get rain / can I teach you how to dance? / It’s not even November, yet she’s worried ‘bout December / If I can have her in my arms / she won’t worry ‘bout the winter
“This feels ridiculous,” she said to Allie’s ear and tugged at the skirt of her dress, so it bunched in her hand, and she could press it to the outside of her thigh. She wanted the fabric to stretch lower. The chill in the air slid up her legs and under her skirt and it was almost icy. “It’s freezing out.”
“This is sweatshirt weather at best. Have another drink and we’ll stand by the fire,” she giggled. But without Harry to steal a drink from the fridge she didn’t have much choice of drinking.
“I know it’s lame, Al, but I want to study,” she practically groaned. “I haven’t a clue what’s going on in class. I was sick all week. I’m super behind.”
Allie snorted and shook her head. “So just take Harry’s notes and ask him.”
“I’m the one that helps him.”
“Sweetie. You’re twenty-one. It’s Halloweekend. We’re drinking and getting candy from cute college guys.”
The only cute college guy she wanted to see was Harry. But Harry was working and wouldn’t be out till much later. He was insistent that she stay out long enough so he could see her costume. “It’s not special...” she told him, her cheeks reddening at his request. “It... it won’t be like other people’s costumes on Halloween. Even Allie said it was cuter than it was sexy,” she admitted thinking of the Risky Business trio Allie was going to be part of for the evening. She scuffed her shoe on the tile floor outside her Sociology class when Harry inquired about the weekend. She had skipped last Thursday and Tuesday to recover from the cold she had. The sniffle punctuated how childish she felt. Harry was able to read between the lines; she wasn’t planning on wearing little to the imagination like many chose to do so. Allie assured her it was still sexy—in it’s own way—but not too sweet; she wouldn’t look out of place.
But she knew the truth. It would look cute and wholesome on her. That was how the guy described her last Halloween while she was working at a bar down south. Down there she could dress with little layering. She didn’t, but she specifically remembered serving a guy that was drunk and flirty. “I could take you home to Mom in that.”
It was her least favorite pickup line, but she knew it was true. It probably didn’t help that it was an angel costume. But it had always been that way. People like Allie dressed adorably and sexily. Allie, and others more confident than she was, were asked to go home for the night with someone they just met. She was asked to babysit or meet a parent. “I bet you’ll look...” he chuckled and pinched his lip between his thumb and finger as he scanned her up and down. He shook his head and smiled at her as her cheeks flamed at his scan. Despite the fact they had kissed and slept in the same bed (and nothing more) for several nights in the last couple weeks, Harry looking at her like she was... beautiful made her feel completely flushed and overwhelmed. It was insane that someone as popular, someone as handsome, someone so nice on top of everything else, liked her. “I can’t wait t’see it,” he promised. “Should I dress t’match you?”
Her heart skipped a beat. “Really?”
“Well, yeah,” he smiled. “Want everyone t’know you’re all mine.”
She had to bite the inside of her lip to keep herself from smiling large enough to break her cheeks wide open. “I’ll send you the link,” she offered.
Now she had to wait another two hours before Harry was off work and on his way. Allie was already on drink number three and there were still no s’mores supplies by the fire. Even on Halloweekend. It was a real shame. Next time she was going to bring her own.
“But it’s cold,” she whined to Allie.
“Sweetie, it’s not even November. You’re going to need so many layers by the time we get to December.”
No wonder she was sick all week. The chill in the air was killing her. Harry was so kind and while he wanted to dote on her way more than he got to, she was insistent. The kind of insistent he didn’t want to argue with just yet—maybe down the line when they had dated for longer than two weeks. He brought her soup from work and as much as Allie tried to convince her to let Harry stay and wait on her, she was sure she didn’t need Harry getting sick on her behalf. Allie gave Harry a sad smile and a look in her eye that said I tried. For which he was grateful to have her best friend on his side.
*
Allie was the kind of person to talk to anyone that approached her. Like long lost friends. With her long-tanned legs on display, that meant there were a lot more people to chat with her. The remaining two of her trio came and went to take pictures and make appearances. She was able to chat with most anyone as well, but her introverted self, preferred a one-on-one kind of chat. It also helped when she wasn’t so cold.
The only person she spoke to between those moments of chatting with Allie’s friends, was the freshman pledge standing by the fire, aptly dressed as a firefighter—no shirt of course.
“You come here with her frequently,” he noted when Allie scampered off to dance to the unofficial Risky Business theme song inside with her friends. She enjoyed the warmth because she swore her dress was getting shorter by the second for her southern blood.
“Yeah, she’s my best friend,” she cleared her throat. “Are you stuck on fire duty all year?”
He snorted through his sarcastic little laugh but held a kind smile. He looked so young. She thought being twenty-one was young and somehow this eighteen-year-old guy may as well have been thirteen. “No, just the semester,” he sighed. “Thankfully,” he shook his head. “When you’re not here, you should see some of the things I see.”
She laughed softly. “I can imagine.”
“Do you know anyone besides Allie?”
“No,” she shook her head. “Well, Niall... adjacently,” she amended and shrugged. “He’s friends with my...” she cleared her throat again awkwardly. Harry technically wasn’t her boyfriend. But she didn’t know what to say, suddenly. “With... my friend.”
The guy smiled to himself picking up some empty cups around the fire and tossed them into a nearby bin. She helped as well, bending gracefully so as not to show off her butt. Her knees were stiff with cold, and it felt like her skin was going to break open. “Oh, you mean Harry,” he chuckled. “I was wondering about that status. Everyone is really,” he smirked knowingly. “You’re different than his usual kind of friend,” he didn’t mean anything by it. Just making conversation. But his comment made her heart feel like it weighed about six hundred pounds and sank directly to her feet. She shouldn’t have given it a second thought. Obviously, he wasn’t around long enough to know Harry’s motives or type or anything. Anything he said was basically a rumor. Clearly, her silence was noteworthy. “Hey, I didn’t mean to offend you,” his voice was remorseful and sweet. Especially for an eighteen-year-old. “You just hear a lot by the fire,” he shrugged. “The guy is crazy about you,” he reminded her. “I know I’m just a freshman pledge, but I see a lot. I hear a lot.”
“What was your name again?” She asked. Simultaneously, she wanted the conversation to stop but also wanted to know who he was later on when she had time to ask Allie and her friends. Or even Niall.
He stuck his hand out. “Kyle,” he offered while she shook his hand firmly.
“Kyle,” she repeated. “Well, thank you for keeping me company. Next time, I think we should have s’mores.”
He laughed and rolled his eyes. “My pleasure. You’re fun to talk to,” he smiled. “If Harry didn’t look like he was ready to kill me I would continue the conversation, but,” he pointed behind her and he gave her a wave. “I’ll bring s’mores next time. See ya around,” he meandered back to his station but shifted to the other side of the fire, avoiding Harry’s vision.
She turned to see Harry, pants with the 1960’s themed flower-pants decorating his legs, a brown suede tasseled vest—no shirt, circle glasses with colored lenses, and a chunky peace necklace hung around his neck. The pendant touched just above his navel. How he wasn’t freezing was beyond her. Even in her own dress, long sleeves, with the matching pattern of Harry’s pants, she was nearly shivering because of her bare legs. All those years her mom forced her to wear a jacket while trick or treating—when it was downright warm—were wasted. She wished for a jacket now.
“Hey,” she smiled sweetly.
“Hey, kitten,” he cooed, the irritation in his eyes still just behind the surface. “Y’look beautiful. Y’should wear a flower crown all the time,” he put a hand on her side and kissed her forehead in greeting. Immediately the stares ensued.
“How was work?” She asked.
“Fine, long. Lots of tips tonight,” he grinned, a spark of excitement replacing the irritation immediately. “Can take y’to the fancy restaurant now.”
His hand didn’t move from her side. It warmed her freezing cold body more than the fire did. “We don’t have to do that, Harry. You can save your money. But it does sound nice,” she smiled sweetly.
Harry stepped closer to her. Somehow. She was a good half a foot shorter, even with the chunky heels on that came with the costume. But he still had to bend his neck forward a bit to reach her ear. His hands were on her waist, cupping her hips and she wanted nothing more than to leave this place and snuggle up to him in bed. “I think y’look so sexy,” he whispered.
She blushed, giggled, and shook her head. “I look like I’m about to take the kids I’m babysitting out trick or treating.”
His nose bumped her temple. “No way, kitten. Too sexy t’have a gaggle of kids t’watch on Halloween,” he kissed her head again.
She rested her hands on his bare chest. He was warm. Not cold at all. “Aren’t you cold?” She asked. He chuckled, pulling from her and then wrapping an arm snuggly around her waist. Honestly, pressed to his unclothed skin was the first time in hours she hadn’t felt so cold.
“No, love,” he shook his head. “Have you been freezing?”
“Yes, extremely,” she smiled knowingly. “It’s parka weather.”
He laughed heading toward the house. “It’s barely sweatshirt weather.”
“That’s what Allie said.”
“Where is Miss Allie?”
“Umm...dancing I think,” she sighed. “I envy her confidence.”
Harry pressed his lips to the top of her head, kissed her temple, and smiled against her hair. “Think you’re perfect,” he murmured. No “just as you are” or “like this” was uttered afterwards. It seemed he really meant it.
*
“Hey!” She naturally perked up. It was between classes—her class at noon was cancelled and she didn’t need to be across campus for another hour. Normally, she scarfed down a protein bar and swung into the coffee shop within one of the dining halls to get another caffeinated beverage to hold her over in the afternoon. It was nice to sit and work on her assignments for a bit. She was lucky to get notes from all her classes—one of her peers in each of them was willing to help her out. She emailed her professors as well explaining how she felt like lukewarm death, and she would stay on top of things and be back on track before they knew it. So really, it was nice to have an extra break between her classes to help her get caught up a little more.
But the voice cut through the din of the dining hall and she looked up to see Kyle.
“Oh, hey, Kyle,” she smiled. She cleared a space at the table and gestured for him to sit.
“I never see you at this time,” he noted. She nodded, explained how her class was cancelled and she was getting caught up since she was sick last week. “How was the rest of your Halloweekend?”
It was lovely. Harry bought her a boatload of candy—so many mini bags of Twix bars and they watched three scary movies that had her snuggled close to him for most of the weekend. Harry made special drinks that looked like green, orange, and purple potions. It was adorable, festive, and just really enjoyable. “It was good,” she grinned, thinking about it fondly. “How was yours? Stuck by the fire?”
He laughed dropping his bag beside the table. “Yeah, basically.”
“Do you want to go get food or something? I’ll be here for a while,” she offered.
“Yeah, thanks, that would be great actually. I’ll be right back.”
While he was gone, she checked her phone to see how Harry was doing in class. This class he usually had to pay the most focused attention to, or he would miss something. My class got out early. I’m in the dining hall if you want to swing by when you’re done. If you can’t it’s okay.
I’d leave right now if I could, kitten 😘
Pay attention 😘
Kyle reappeared with a burger and fries. He also had a bag of carrot sticks which she thought was pretty adorable. He pulled his water bottle from his bag and set it out as well. “Whoa, is that a real class?” He asked.
She laughed. “It’s for one of my math classes.”
“That’s hieroglyphics, actually.”
She shook her head, still smiling. “Not a math fan?”
“I’m in pre-calculus and only because I took the placement test online and had someone help me get to it. I didn’t want to take the lower-level class for no credit and still have to pay for it,” he explained. She nodded understandingly.
“Well, I kind of like math, so if you need help, we could find a time to meet.”
His jaw dropped. “Shut up,” he practically gasped. “You’re kidding.”
“Of course,” she was too sweet. Allie said it was going to kill her one day. But Kyle was nice. “The hard part will be making our schedules match up.”
He sighed with relief stuffing three French fries in his mouth. “Wow, thanks, that’s so nice of you,” he murmured around the bite of his burger next. “I’m glad I sat with you instead of my friends today.”
“Oh?” She smirked.
“Yeah,” he glanced across the room to a booth filled with four boys who were all ogling the pair of them. “They all think I’m crazy for talking to a pretty upperclassman,” he admitted. “I told them I knew you from fire duty, but they didn’t believe me.” Her cheeks definitely warmed at the compliment, and she felt herself under the scrutiny of the whole group. “M’sorry,” he said quickly. “I didn’t mean to embarrass you.”
Kyle was unlike any eighteen-year-old guy she had ever met in her whole life. The guys in her high school wouldn’t have been able to compete. “Do you have a sister?” She asked.
He nodded. “She goes to a different school, but she’s a senior,” that seemed to explain it. His sister was a year older than her.  “Why?”
“Your compliments are very kind, and I was just thinking that most guys your age—”
He smiled. “Oh... yeah. The guys all think I’m a huge ladies’ man or something,” he told her with an eye roll. He was brushing it off. But she could see it. In a lot of ways, he reminded her of Harry. “My sister just taught me really well how to talk and treat women.”
“That’s really nice,” she smiled. “Are you seeing someone?”
“No, my older brother is a legacy in this frat, so it’s taken up most of my semester—and before, honestly. I used to come to parties with him when I was still in high school because he wanted to show me the ropes. That’s how I know Harry... kind of, just from observing him and being around the frat life. Where is he, by the way?”
“Class, he should be getting out soon.”
He blanched almost immediately. “Oh, I better go then, I don’t want him—”
“What?” She interrupted with a scoff of laughter in her voice. “You don’t have to go. We’re friends,” she rolled her eyes.
“Um... I think Harry is a bit of the jealous type when it comes to you,” he explained. “I heard he punched someone at one of the parties you didn’t go to because they were talking about you. Plus, the guy in your sociology class wouldn’t keep his mouth shut and Niall had to tell him to shut it, or Harry would shut it for him.”
For a moment, she forgot how to breathe—or exist. She blinked; her eyes closed for a long moment before she looked at him curiously. “I’m sorry, what?” She tilted her head. She had heard rumors of course. The ones of inadequacy, difference of his previous relationships, just complete surprise in Harry being with her in general.
To hear that Harry was jealous—to the point of violence? How did she miss that? “He punched someone?”
“To be honest, I don’t know. I wasn’t in the room. But I know he definitely yelled,” Kyle shrugged taking another bite of his burger. Her jaw dropped.
The rumors didn’t bother her—not for why they should have bothered her. The feeling of inadequacy definitely hurt, but that was something she kind of worked out with Harry on her own. Violent outbursts were too much for her. Hopefully that was nothing more than a rumor. “Hey kitten,” she was lost in thought, didn’t even notice Harry approached. Looking up, she saw him staring at Kyle, seated across from her.
She shook her head to get her brain functioning again. “Oh,” she smiled. “Hi, you’re out early,” she stood up and pecked his cheek. He seemed stiff. Kyle paled while Harry continued staring and she felt so uneasy about seeing jealous Harry firsthand. Poor Kyle began cleaning up his stuff as quickly as he could. She put a hand on his arm to still him and he nearly ripped his arm away from her. Poor thing. “Do you know Kyle?” She asked as if he hadn’t almost taken his whole arm off at her touch. But she noted the way Harry shifted. “He’s usually on fire duty,” she explained sitting back in her seat. “I chatted with him on Halloweekend.”
Harry’s gaze was stiff, cold, and nothing like how he looked at her at all. “Kyle,” he repeated.
“Kyle was telling me he’s struggling with math,” she looked at Harry curiously, almost suspiciously. “You can vouch for me, right? I’m a pretty good tutor,” she giggled, and Harry loosened ever so slightly.
“Yeah, she’s a genius, I think,” Harry slid into the booth seat beside her. He kissed her forehead. “M’jus’ gonna grab a quick snack,” he explained and left his bag beside her.
“What are you doing?” She asked as Kyle continued to clean up his stuff.
The color in Kyle’s face returned to normal and he sighed with relief when Harry left. “He’s gonna kill me.”
“Kyle,” she snorted. “We’re friends. He’ll get over it.”
“My friends are tweaking out over there.”
She glanced at them briefly to see them all snickering and smacking each other at their friend’s discomfort. “I see that,” she rolled her eyes. “He’s just a little protective,” she offered.
“I don’t blame him; you’re very pretty and nice,” he said with a shrug. “I’ve been at a lot of these parties and no one ever gives me the time of day," he murmured right before Harry reappeared.
“Kyle, y’brother was in Niall’s frat,” Harry said placing his food in front of him—a pre-made sandwich and a bottle of apple juice—which she thought was the cutest thing in the world to see a twenty-one-year-old guy who was hotter than the sun drinking a bottle of apple juice with his sandwich. “What was his name?”
Kyle gulped almost audibly; he was so uncomfortable it was palpable in the air. “Uh... Jesse,” he answered eventually. “He graduated last year. But I went to parties a lot. Showed the ropes kind of thing.”
“Ah,” Harry nodded. “Well, thanks for keeping m’girlfriend company. Don’t know if she told you, she’s from the south. So s’pretty cold without the fire,” he placed a hand beneath the table on her thigh. It made her swoon internally.
Girlfriend.
She could feel her whole face soften and the word. Her heart rate began to fly. She glanced at Harry from the corner of her eye to see if he was having a meltdown internally like she was. He wasn’t. It was as if this was just another ordinary moment of her life, and her heart wasn’t screaming.
Kyle must have heard the designation as well because his smile brightened, and she swore his eye twinkled in acknowledgment. “I didn’t know that. Makes a lot of sense,” he seemed a little more at ease now that Harry had turned off the protective tone. But worry was still just below the surface of his eyes. “Uh... would it be cool to get your number to help with the whole tutoring stuff?” He asked looking at his own phone. She wished she could look at Harry’s face when the poor thing asked. Kyle may as well have been asking Harry for it like some kind of dowry.
“Of course,” she said quickly and pulled her phone up to a new contact and handed it to him. She put her hand on Harry’s, still on her leg. She squeezed it while Kyle cleared his throat and passed it back to her.
“Thank you, my... my mom will appreciate the help,” he admitted, shyly.
“Happy to help,” she promised with a smile. “Thanks for keeping me company again.”
His face paled again, Harry’s grip on her thigh tightened at the same time. “I gotta go,” he gestured to his friends still staring at the three of them. “Thanks for the help, see you around.”
As soon as he was gone, she turned more directly to Harry, getting a good view of his profile. He sipped his apple juice. “Did you punch a guy?” She asked. He rolled his eyes and scoffed.
“Of course not.”
“Well, I thought that too, but you almost melted poor Kyle with your laser vision there,” she pressed a hand to the side of his face. Harry smirked under her touch. His cheeks turned the slightest shade of pink.
“M’jus...” he sighed. “Y’have t’understand, kitten. I’ve never felt this way ‘bout someone before. M’not usually the jealous type. Y’can ask Mitch and Sarah. M’not one t’play dick goalie; if someone wanted t’be in a relationship with someone else, m’not gonna make myself sick with worry,” he shrugged. “But you?” He shook his head. “S’like there’s this bug in m’head. The whole picnic was nice, but y’deserve more. M’ready t’do anything t’keep you to myself. T’give you all y’want and more.”
“And you think poor, baby freshman Kyle is going to give me more?” She asked sarcasm dripping in her voice. But it was still kind how she said it. She could hear the worry in Harry’s voice. It was unnecessary, but nonetheless sweet. She couldn’t believe he liked her so much.
“He already has a crush on you,” he grumbled and bit into his sandwich.
“He does not,” but the heat rising to her cheeks didn’t help her case.
“Of course, he does, love,” Harry rolled his eyes. “A hot, upperclassman talking t’a freshman? I’d’ve written our names in a notebook.”
“He’s harmless,” she promised.
“He is, but s’jus’ furthering m’point,” he smiled. “M’literally dating you and ‘ve got a huge crush on you. You’re nice, funny, and beautiful. S’like y’were made in a lab.”
“You forgot I’m good at math,” she teased.
“Don’t remind me. Don’t know why you’re slumming it with me.”
She smiled, shaking her head. “I didn’t know we were boyfriend and girlfriend,” it sounded so cheesy saying it out loud. She hoped he wouldn’t think she was ridiculous but it really ached in her chest.
“Kitten, we have been since y’agreed t’sit with me in class,” he smirked. “Y’should’ve asked,” he kissed the top of her head.
She laughed. “That long?”
“Mhmm...” he hummed and draped his arm around her and pulled her closer. “Did y’think this was just a little fling or something?”
“No,” she cleared her throat. “Or, I hoped not. But...” she shrugged. “I know I’m not like the other girls you’ve dated. And I know I’m kind of lame—”
“Please don’t talk about my lovely girlfriend like that,” he winked cutely. She rolled her eyes.
“I would be extremely jealous if I saw a girl flirting with you,” she told him.
His flirty smile disappeared, a frown replacing his entire face. “I would never make y’jealous intentionally. I haven’t noticed anyone since I met you, kitten,” he promised. “I really don’t want y’to worry ‘bout me. I know y’hear rumors and I can imagine they bug you, but s’all they are. If there’s ever something y’want t’know, y’can ask. I won’t... blame y’for asking.”
“I trust you,” her voice was so firm, she hoped he knew that. This conversation was almost too serious for a dining hall, but she was kind of glad to be talking about all of it. “Really, truly. Allie is gonna take a little longer to believe you, but even she said you act differently around me.”
“S’good to know,” he smirked. “I’ll work on it. M’glad y’trust me.”
She smiled. “You trust me, right?”
“I do, I really do, kitten. Believe me, s’all the guys that are right to flirt with you that make me crazy. They see someone so beautiful and kind,” he shook his head. “M’no better than them, honestly.”
For a moment, she just looked at him. It was hard to believe he was so crazy about her. After all he had told her, and all the issues she had within her mind, making her feel a little insane at times, Harry didn’t care. He assuaged every worry. Every minor little problem or fear she had, he plucked it right out and assured her that everything was lovely.
She leaned upward and pecked his cheek again. “No punching someone,” she said simply. “I have to get to class, are you going to stay here?” She asked.
“Leave you t’walk with the wolves?” He asked, packaging his sandwich up and putting his juice in his bag. “Absolutely, not,” he rolled his eyes. She giggled and she couldn’t help but notice how Harry’s smile brightened as she did.
*
Prior to university, Harry’s teachers told him and his classmates how they would have so much free time in college. Which was true in a way; Harry had a lot of time to join a club sport, hold down a job, go to the gym, enjoy himself as much as he wanted. However, all those extra curriculars and obligations he gave himself created a packed schedule. The fear of insurmountable debt made him pick up shifts even when he didn’t want to.
It was a miracle he found a girlfriend as busy as he was. If she had more free time, Harry worried she would find someone who had more time for him. But between working, classes, studying, and going for runs with Allie (although she assured Harry that it was mostly walking for the better part of ninety minutes and followed by a half hour of stretching), they mainly saw each other at bedtime.
“I think we’re an old married couple,” Harry murmured into her hair. He loved the feel of her body close to his. Having her in his arms was where he wanted her most.
“We haven’t fought about hair in the shower drain yet,” she reminded him.
“S’because all of it’s in m’mouth right now,” he spluttered, pretending to spit her hair out of his mouth. She twisted around, facing him, he smiled at her. “M’jus’ kidding. I would eat your hair,” he joked.
“You’re insane.”
“’Bout you.”
“Somewhere in the future is a true crime podcast about you murdering me,” she had this habit of placing her hand on his face and skimming her thumb across his cheek. It was soothing, if he wasn’t careful, he would fall asleep before finishing their chat. She threw her voice to do a monologued intro. “He was so handsome. No one suspected that he had a hair fetish that would devolve into full-blown cannibalism.”
He laughed and brought his mouth close to hers. “I wouldn’t eat you, kitten. M’not a psychopath,” he rolled his eyes. “I would probably just keep your body preserved and play house with it.”
She nodded. “Well, that’s a relief.”
He chuckled, rolled his eyes again. “Go to sleep.”
“M’worried you’ll kill me when I’ve let my guard down,” she yawned. “S’always the husband. After twenty-five years of marriage,” she reminded him.
“S’a risk we all take, I think.”
“Can you at least text Allie that she can have my clothes?”
“First on m’to do list after I clean up the blood.”
“I don’t think we should watch scary movies before bed anymore.”
“Yes, dear.”
She giggled. For a few moments they just gazed at one another. Her eyes got droopier, her breath slower. “Good night, Harry,” she whispered.
“Good night, kitten,” he answered just as softly. His tongue was twitching to say three more words. Words that, realistically, he wanted to say the moment he met her. His heart ached to say them as much as his tongue. Part of him wondered if she would say it back. Was it too early? She hadn’t been in love before. He needed it to be special when he said it. Was he prepared if she didn’t say it back?
Her face nuzzled into his collarbone; a sigh escaped her, completely content. He wondered if she was already asleep. Maybe he would just whisper it to her sleeping form for practice. Was he being ridiculous? Was it too soon? No, he never felt like this when he dated before her. “Thanks for being my boyfriend,” her voice was so gentle, so sweet. “I like it a lot.”
He kissed her forehead, his heart cracking under the pressure of how adorable she was. “Pleasure’s all mine, love,” despite how badly he wanted to say it, he wanted it to be more special for her. She deserved that.
*
Harry called his mum as often as he could to check in. It was usually twice a week and texts every day. He was sitting outside the restaurant in the cold, trying to ease his mind off the packed schedule he had for the next couple weeks. It was hard to believe it was mid-November. Finals and their holiday break would be right around the corner. “Hi honey-bunny,” his mum said into the phone. “You on break?” She asked.
“Yeah, hi Mum; how are you?”
“Missing my baby,” she cooed.
He chuckled. “M’jus’ calling ’cause I have a free minute.”
“Thank you,” she said gratefully. “How’s our leading lady?” She asked.
Harry smiled to himself, despite being alone, his cheeks surely turned pink. Shortly after his breakfast with Mitch, he called his mum to tell her that he met her; the girl he was certain he was going to marry her. “She’s good,” he nearly sighed dreamily. “Do y’want to meet her?” He asked.
“Of course I do!” She nearly cheered. “M’sure she’s lovely.”
“Y’know, her family’s down south. M’not sure what her plans are for the holiday break,” he shrugged. “If she’s stuck here because of flights, could I invite her home?”
“Oh of course! I’ll have to get her a stocking.”
“Er...don’t scare her Mum,” he laughed lightly. “I don’t know if she can yet.”
“Well, you’re certain you’re going to marry her, I better get one anyway.”
His mum was all on board for having a daughter-in-law. One that was sweet and perfect for her little baby boy. Gemma was excited to have someone to poke fun with and truly, she’d always wanted a sister as well. Harry felt his stomach flip at the thought. While his mum was a strong supporter and kind about who Harry fell in love with, Gemma was the slightest bit more skeptical. When he called her earlier in the semester about the pretty girl, Gemma was happy for him. “Harry, you’re very young still. I’m young. Are you sure you want to settle for the first girl you think is the one?”
“S’not settling, Gem. You haven’t met her,” he assured her. “S’not even close to settling,” he promised. “I know m’young...but...’ve wanted t’meet her for a really long time,” he told her. Gemma knew that. Her younger brother, the sweet six-foot giant, had been graced with a heart bigger than anyone she knew. He was empathetic, adoring, and always kind. As much as he hated bugs and spiders, he always wanted them to be saved when they were younger and placed neatly outside so as not to upset their little insect families. Harry dreamed about getting married the first time he had a crush on a pretty girl in his grade school classes. His heart was broken on Valentine’s Day when she didn’t send him a Valentine, but he had pored over his glittery heart craft that he had slipped into her school mailbox. The heartache only lasted a little while—he was only seven at the time—but he wanted love. It was obvious. Gemma and her Mum had cultivated his love of Rom-Coms and they were his first line of advice when he needed help with gifts for the girl he was seeing.
Gemma knew that Harry dated a bit, desperately searching for the lady that he thought would appear long before he went to university. So as much as Gemma tried to quell his excitement over the object of all his affections and remind him how young he was to find the love of his life, Gemma knew that she was different. The way she had captured her brother’s heart so entirely was a beautiful sign.
“Gemma will want to meet her too,” Mum brought him back to the present. His break was waning, and he would need to get back inside momentarily. “I’m really happy you’re happy, Harry.”
His heart felt so whole, it nearly hurt. “Me too, Mum.”
“Have a good rest of your day, honey bunny. Love you.”
“Love you too, Mum, talk to you soon.”
*
When they walked to class, it was freezing. Even for Harry. Which meant it was probably insufferable for her. Her hands were stuffed in her coat pockets, Harry desperately wanted to hold her hand but couldn’t bring himself to steal it from the warmth inside her jacket. “Y’really wanted t’come up here away from the warmth?” he murmured his question.
The leaves were no longer the warm hues of a sunset colors. They wilted into chestnut, sepia colors and piled along fences outlining the campus. The ground was hard beneath her feet, and she wondered if her coat was going to be thick enough to make it through the winter. She smiled. Her cheeks were wind-blown pink, and her nose was a little runny, but Harry thought she had never looked more beautiful. “Yes, wouldn’t have met you otherwise,” she said immediately. He chuckled, his cheeks turning their own shade of pink.
“Wait till y’see the snow,” he reminded her.
“I’m so excited for snow,” she sounded excited. God, he wanted to hold her hand so badly. She pulled a gloved hand out of her pocket at the very moment and pulled a strand of hair away from her lips. “I need hot chocolate,” she grabbed Harry’s hand between them and squeezed it, making him ache with more adoration for her. “Do you work today?”
He did, but it was a short shift. “Jus’ till nine.”
“So hot chocolate at your place?”
He wondered if she could see the somersaults his heart was doing in his eyes. “Please,” he squeezed her hand back. “I’d love that, kitten.”
She brought their hands to her cold lips and kissed the back of his hand. Harry was certain he was going to start sweating with how warm the gesture was and he couldn’t bring himself to care about how ridiculous it all was.
*
Fortunately, Saturday was much warmer than their hot chocolate date. It was still cool, but around the fire, it wasn’t nearly as frigid or achy. Harry once more showed up after his shift. Glancing through the gossip column that was his text messages.
Your girlfriend is awfully cozy with the Fire Marshall.
He knew that it was just to get a rise out of him. He didn’t even have the number saved. But it didn’t mean it didn’t work. After nearly sprinting most of the way from his parking spot to Niall’s house, he had to slow to a walk and take a few laps around the block to ease the anxiety in his mind. Kyle was just her friend. She was kind. She was lovely. Harry knew there was nothing he needed to worry about with her. It wasn’t her.
It was just that she was drop dead gorgeous and Kyle had a massive crush on her. His eye twitched and he rubbed at it as he meandered into the yard. The thought of them having a study session also didn’t help his anxious mind. This was a horrible feeling. He wouldn’t wish it on his worst enemy.
Fortunately, he saw Allie chatting with a group of her friends in the front yard. Some drinking game was definitely happening—it involved cornhole, which he felt of all the games they could have played, it was probably the least dangerous. He gave her a wave. “Hi Harry! She’s out back by the fire!” She shouted. That seemed like Five-Drink-Allie if he had to bet. Poor thing was going to have a killer headache in the morning.
He chuckled, saluted her, and headed around the side of the house. He saw the bonfire and the pair standing by it. They were close together and his heart skipped a beat feeling anxious and hot as he watched while approaching. “S’mores?” He asked.
“Hi, Harry,” she cooed sweetly standing on her toes to kiss his cheek. Almost immediately, the fiery envy in his heart disappeared and was replaced with adoration once more.
“Hi, kitten,” he wrapped his arm around her waist.
“Kyle provided s’mores,” she said knowingly. “Now it’s a real party,” she explained holding the s’mores stick out toward the flame. “Do you like good marshmallows or bad marshmallows?” She asked.
Harry chuckled. “Sounds a bit loaded...What’s a good marshmallow?”
“Not charred on the outside,” Kyle rolled his eyes. A pang of frustration went through Harry over the idea that they had an inside joke he was not privy to. “She’s very serious about this.”
“Golden brown is best,” she explained.
“Sorry kitten, m’a charred s’more kinda guy,” Harry smiled.
She scoffed. “Horrible. Both of you. Wasting marshmallows,” she grumbled.
“M’gonna grab a drink. You’ll be here?” He asked.
“Yeah of course, I think Niall was looking for you,” she added reaching for the chocolate and graham crackers they had placed on a jacket on the ground. It must have been Kyle’s because there was no way she would part with a jacket if she were wearing it, no matter how warm it was by the fire; he was sure her icicle self couldn’t do it. “I’ll make you a gross s’more for when you come back; take your time,” she smiled. Harry winked at her, nodded to Kyle, and headed inside.
He found Niall hovering near the makeshift bar. Grateful he could just ask his friend to sneak him a can directly from the fridge without having to distract the freshman bartender for the tenth time in the semester. “Harry!” He cheered. Niall wasn’t drunk; it took a lot for someone so Irish to get drunk at all. But he was friendly. Harry was certain he would greet him the same way, first thing in the morning. “Mitch and Sarah are here,” he pointed toward a group of people over by the pong table. It looked like a game of quarters this week, but he couldn’t be certain. Niall got closer to him and murmured in his ear while he asked the freshman bartender for something to drink as well. “Is Kyle bugging your lady?” He asked. Niall looked at him knowingly, reading between the lines, Harry knew it wasn’t about her, it was entirely about himself.
“No,” he shook his head. “They’re friends.”
“I can tell him to cool it,” he offered.
Harry nodded. “S’fine,” he promised coolly grateful it was dark, so Niall probably missed the way his eye twitched. Part of him wanted to go steal her away and just take her home. Niall nodded.
“Alright, just checking. He’s a good kid,” he promised.
“Seems it,” Harry agreed. “Game tomorrow?” He asked. Niall nodded, excitedly.
“Yessir,” he saluted and slugged back more of his drink. Harry chuckled circling over to Mitch and Sarah. Sarah was clinging to Mitch. A good sign that she had more than her standard two drinks and was getting a little tipsier than normal.
“I got a great grade on my exam,” she giggled.
Mitch smirked and rolled his eyes. “I see,” Harry laughed. “Celebrating, are we?”
She nodded and held her cup out for Harry to clink with his own plasticky sound. “Is my new best friend coming over tonight for a sleepover? I want those scones she made last week!” Sarah nearly had hearts in her eyes at the thought. Mitch chuckled, kissed the side of her head, while wrapping an arm around her tightly.
“M’sure she can,” Harry chuckled. Allie happened into the room at that point and Harry waved her over.
“Hi!” She chirped and gave Sarah a hug.
“Do you two have plans tomorrow?” Harry asked. “Sarah wants scones.”
“Oh, so do I,” Allie bounced on her toes excitedly.
“You should sleepover too!” Sarah cheered excitedly. “We can put the boys in one room,” she suggested. Mitch snorted and rolled his eyes. He sipped his drink and looked Harry knowingly.
It sounded adorable, honestly. Bringing two facets of his life so close together. But part of him dreaded not spending the night snuggled up to the pretty girl.
“But no, we don’t have plans—I’m not sure if she’s working though...where is—? Oh no,” Allie seemed to sober immediately dropping her cup, spilling it on Mitch and Sarah’s feet before she ran out the back door. Without looking, Harry dropped his cup and the seltzer he had for her and followed suit. He sensed Mitch and Sarah on his heels.
About a foot from the fire, she was standing between Kyle and another guy. Harry didn’t know his name. The s’mores were abandoned, and Kyle had a murderous look in his eye. “Kyle, it’s fine,” she promised as he approached.
“No, it’s not,” he snapped. “Get out of the way,” he ground out to her but she was pressed up against him, her entire back protectively pressed in front of him.
“What are you going to do Freshmeat? Big brother’s not here to get you out of this one,” the other guy taunted shoving Kyle despite the fact she was between them. She smacked his hand.
“Stop it,” she scowled at him. Honestly, Harry thought it would have been cute had he not been so furious.
“Hey!” Allie shouted at the same time Harry shoved the other guy away almost immediately.
“Harry!” She shouted pushing Kyle back another step.
“Back off,” Harry snarled.
“Oh, so you’re okay sharing her with a freshman, but not—”
“I wouldn’t finish that sentence,” Sarah warned.
She was holding Kyle’s arm trying to keep him calm. “Harry, let’s just go,” she whispered nervously. “Please,” she added, her voice catching.
“What did you say to her?” Harry growled, eyeing him. It was obvious he had too much to drink.
“Harry,” Allie warned coming to her side. “It’s okay, let’s just go.”
“You better take care of your girl, Styles. Or someone will do it for you,” he warned. Harry felt so hot with rage it was hotter than the fire.
“Harry,” Mitch said lowly. “Let’s just go,” he repeated.
“I’m getting Niall,” Allie sped back for the house.
Harry set his jaw, glaring at him, and turned his attention briefly to her and Kyle. “Are you alright?” He asked, his voice tight.
She nodded. “Very okay. I just want to go,” she whispered.
Harry backed up toward Kyle and her. He grabbed her hand and tugged her with him as quickly as he could. “Teasing slut,” he muttered lowly.
But not low enough.
Harry smiled, shook his head, and reeled around. “Wanna repeat that?” He asked.
“Harry,” her voice was close to tears, begging. “Harry, please.”
“Hey!” Niall shouted hurrying out the house in front of Allie.
“I said, she’s a ‘teasing slut.’ You’re just lucky you got to her first—”
“HEY!” Niall repeated but Kyle was the one that lunged at the same time.
“Kyle!” She shouted.
Harry yanked the poor kid away and shoved him back toward Mitch and Sarah. “Harry!” She begged again, apparently unafraid to get close to the action. Niall yanked her back just as fast as Harry pulled Kyle away and Harry started to lunge. With Allie and Sarah holding Kyle back, Mitch grabbed Harry before he could throw a single punch. The drunk idiot cackled at the drama and shook his head.
“Let’s go,” Mitch ordered fiercely. She sighed with relief grabbing his arm and pulling him close to her. Niall shoved the other guy back toward the house.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered.
He almost felt as angry as he was moments ago. “S’not your fault, love,” Niall assured her with a smile. “Harry, y’good?” He asked. Harry nodded stiffly looking at the ground. “Kyle,” Niall looked at the younger one trapped between Sarah and Allie. “You good?”
He nodded once. “M’fine,” he muttered, shaking his head. “Sorry. He was so pushy. I just thought he was trying to drug her or something,” he promised.
Harry tensed up so hard he thought he would tear a muscle just standing there. She shivered. “Thank you, Kyle. But you didn’t need to do all that,” her voice was soft but almost warning—like a mum to her child. “I wasn’t going to drink anything he offered me,” she promised. “You could have gotten really hurt,” she reminded him.
Harry envied her coolness right now. He was fuming and while she was speaking as gently as she could to Kyle, her hand was roaming his arm just as gently. “Worth it,” he promised. They needed to leave quickly, or Harry was going to let all his jealous emotions surge through him.
“I’m ordering an Uber back,” Sarah said. “S’too cold and you’re too hotheaded to walk—you’ll end up sprinting,” she said to Harry. “How many?” She asked. It was determined all five of them would be leaving.
“You’ll watch him?” She asked Niall quietly and gestured toward Kyle who was picking up the trash around the fire.
“Always,” he winked. “Sorry ‘bout the drama, love.”
“Comes with the territory, I think,” she squeezed Harry’s hand.
“You’ll watch him?” Niall asked.
She smiled. “Always.”
*
Allie did a really good job realizing she was going to throw up the moment she got into Casa Mitch and Harry. “Sarah, can you get some meds and a soda?” She asked.
“You’re the bestest friend there ever was,” Allie moaned laying on the floor beside the toilet. Sarah smirked and handed over the supplies and doubled back for a pillow and a blanket.
“Scones in the morning?” Sarah asked.
“Sounds great,” she smiled sweetly. It was obvious Harry was still on edge. He headed into his bedroom and paced while she finished up with Sarah and Allie.
“You good there, Al?” She asked.
She held up a thumb that sort of leaned a little more than halfway down than it did up. Smirking, she waved to Mitch and Sarah gave her arm a squeeze. “Good night, Harry,” Sarah called gently.
“Shout if you need something, Allie,” she pushed her friend’s hair back and left her to sleep on the cold tile. She quietly closed Harry’s bedroom door and waited while Harry continued pacing.
“What did he say?” He snapped.
“Harry, it’s not—”
“Kitten, m’begging,” he looked at her so hurt, so terribly sad, she nearly caved.
“It was nothing, Harry. It’ll do no good to talk it out. You’ll just get mad—”
“M’jus’ gonna ask Kyle,” Harry was still fuming as he paced.
“Harry,” she repeated. “Please. I’m telling you; it was nothing. Please believe me.”
Harry pressed his head against the window. The lights illuminating the paths to the different buildings were soft and the room was otherwise dark. “M’sorry, kitten,” he mumbled. “M’jus’ mad.”
“I know.”
Harry turned and looked at her. He hardly got a sedcond to look at how pretty she was. “You look beautiful, my love,” he murmured. “S’no wonder y’got him all flustered,” he smirked.
She sighed; the relief palpable in the air. “I’m so sorry.”
“Y’did nothing,” he shook his head. “M’jus...crazy ‘bout you, kitten. I’m sorry,” he grabbed her hands and brought them to his lips. Her fingers were still cold, and he frowned. “M’sorry,” he repeated and blew his breath across her hands to warm them.
She looked utterly distraught. “He’s going to lie,” she croaked suddenly. Her throat closing around the emotion. “He’s going to say I was making out with Kyle or something. It’s not true Harry, you have to know that. Any rumor you hear tomorrow, it’s unequivocally false,” she had tears in her eyes.
“Baby,” Harry whispered. “I would never believe someone over you.”
“No?” She hiccupped softly.
He cupped her face. “Course not, love,” he kissed her forehead, and it melted her icy body so immensely. The first time in an hour that she felt calm. “M’sorry he said something to you, or about you.”
“It’s...it’s okay,” she promised. “I know you’re probably still... jealous of him, or whatever, but I was really glad Kyle was there,” she told him. “I wished you were, but it was good.”
“Don’t ever stand between me and someone that wants t’hurt you,” he warned. The one thing he would probably blame Kyle for from then on.
“Kyle’s just a baby,” she reminded him.
“I don’t want t’talk ‘bout Kyle anymore.”
She giggled. “Okay.”
Harry pulled his shirt over his head. “Let’s go to bed. We have scones t’bake in the morning.”
*
Harry woke to about thirty messages from a variety of people all claiming to know bits and pieces of everything about last night. Other than Niall’s, he deleted every single message without so much as a glance at the details. Instead, he looked at the sleepy girl, tucked near his chest. He brushed her hair behind her ear.
There was a knock. “Are you naked?” Allie asked. He snorted.
“No,” he murmured quietly.
Despite the fact she had thrown up, she looked pretty good. “I used your toothbrush,” she said climbing into the bed beside her best friend. Harry shook his head.
“Hi Allie,” she murmured.
“Hi sweetie,” she yawned. “You going to make Sarah and I some scones?”
She nodded, tucking her face into Harry’s chest. “In a minute.”
The twin bed was not made for three people and Harry thought it was quite hilarious. “Should I get out t’let y’snuggle?”
“Please,” Allie yawned and threw an arm over her eyes. He chuckled and kissed the sweet girl’s forehead before climbing out of bed.
“Sorry,” she murmured.
“I’ll make sure we have everything,” he suggested. “Need a new toothbrush,” he rolled his eyes.
“I like Harry,” Allie whispered.
“I do too.”
*
While cleaning their little kitchen, Harry couldn’t stop himself from thinking about how much he loved her. It was becoming impossible to not say it every chance he got. But he wanted it to be special. More special than he could ever describe. He was sure she wouldn’t care, but it meant more to him that it be special. Especially after he flubbed their first real date.
“What?” She smiled as she looked up from the dishes in the sink.
“Do y’want t’go away next weekend?” He asked. “Before finals get too crazy?”
He was envisioning a romantic weekend away at Mitch’s family’s cabin up the mountain. Quiet, cold, for sure, but warm in the cabin. Just the two of them. He could tell her he loved her. No distractions. Shopping in the little town, cooking together in a full kitchen, sleeping by the fireplace, and just sweetness and a special weekend for the pair of them.
“Do I need to bring anything special?” She asked.
“Another coat, probably," he chuckled.
Her smiled was a mixture of relief and happiness. “I would love that.”

To say that night had been hectic would be a massive understatement.
After Y/n’s mother had left the room it wasn’t 10 minutes before the door was kicked in and Y/n screamed, terrified immediately that someone was breaking in and Klaus was on his feet, growling at the 4 men that now stood in the room with guns. ‘What do you think you’re doing Rumlow?! Get Out! I was fucking sleeping you crazy assholes!’
‘That’s enough девочка, they’re here to get that animal out of my child’s bedroom.’ Klaus instantly recognized this man as Y/n’s father and he would have no matter what he had said, she looks like him in more ways than she does her mom.
‘No, he’s not going anywhere. He’s mine now, he hasn’t hurt anyone-‘
‘Yet! He’s a wild animal! It is time for him to go, I am not asking-‘
‘Of course not! You never do! You never even speak to me, let alone ask me how I feel about something! He’s not going anywhere!’ She snapped, moving to hug him and Klaus licked her face to try and comfort her, knowing this was not going to end well.
‘I’m going to give you a choice because I love you девочка. Either you take the animal outside and let it go or I get rid of it right now. It’s your choice, because I will not have a wolf in my house ready to hurt my child, it’s nice now but it’s a wild animal, it is not a pet!’ Y/n was glaring at her father but he refused to look at her. Klaus could see he didn’t want to upset her but he didn’t want to risk a wolf sleeping in his child’s bed, he can’t say it’s not logical but he sure isn’t going about it the right way. ‘Choose Y/n, or I will.’
Y/n turned to look back at him and pet him gently. ‘Come on Fenrir.’ He hopped off of the bed and followed her down the stairs and out the back door, kneeling in the grass beside him. ‘You go home, okay? I’ll bring you something special to eat tomorrow, does that sound good?’ He barked, enjoying her scratching behind his ears as always.
‘No Y/n, you will not go looking for him, you will leave him alone, no more going into the woods.’
‘What?! No! You don’t want him in the house? Fine, but he’s my friend! The only one I have in the world thanks to you! I don’t get to have friends, or boyfriends, or dates, and now I can’t even have a fucking pet?! I’ll come talk to him whenever I want and you can’t stop me!’
‘Y/n-‘
‘No! I’ve always done what you say, always, even when it means I can’t go to college or have a job or know any other human beings besides the people who you pay to be here but this isn’t fair! You don’t get to do this to me!’ She was hugging him around the neck tightly and he whined, not knowing how to comfort her.
Her father gestured to one of the men who moved to grab her and Klaus growled, lunging at him as he reached for her and biting his hand viciously. ‘Mother Fucker!’
‘He’s protecting me! That should prove that hes good-‘
‘It proves that he’s dangerous!’ He shouted, his voice loud and pissed off as he moved to grab Y/n and haul her up. ‘Don’t look.’ He told her, trying to hold her face against him.
‘No…No! Let Go! Let Me Go! Fenrir Run!’
Klaus had to give James Barnes credit, he’s much more of an idiot than he expected. Klaus had been trying to figure out how to get Y/n to leave with him, and with how she had been raised he expected it to be difficult but no, her father was doing a fantastic job of driving her away all by himself. All this was doing was solidifying it for him, though he had always hated getting shot. Humans and their guns had gotten effective over the years and it seemed it got more painful every decade.
There was a loud gunshot which cut off Y/n’s screams and everything was silent, no one spoke, Y/n’s mother not even knowing what to say right now. ‘Clean it up.’ James demanded before pulling his daughter towards the house but she planted her feet and dug her teeth into his arm as hard as she could making him scream and let go.
A moment later she was knelt over her friends body, crying into his fur and willing him to wake up, even though she knew he wouldn’t. No one seemed to know what to do until her mother moved. ‘Honey…it’s time to go inside-‘
‘You let him do this…you’re the only person he’s ever listened to and you did nothing.’ Y/n’s voice was hollow, she didn’t have it in her to care anymore.
‘Honey, I couldn’t-‘
‘You didn’t want to. There’s a difference.’ It wasn’t until she was blaming her mother that Bucky spoke again.
‘Don’t talk to your mother like that-‘
‘Don’t you ever speak to me again.’ She cut him off, glaring up at him. ‘All you’ve done tonight is prove everything that I’ve been saying about you for years…you don’t care about me. Maybe you did when I was a kid, maybe it was all a lie, maybe once I got old enough you realized I wasn’t everything you wanted and you realized you hated me cause you can’t have any better kids. I don’t know and tonight was my last straw…I don’t care anymore. I hate you-‘
‘Y/n!’ Her mother scolded.
‘I Hate You…and not some teenage angst “I hate you” bullshit, I mean it. You were the only friend I had my entire life and for whatever reason you gave up on that and left me alone and now you couldn’t even let me have a pet as a friend. I’m done. I’m leaving, I don’t know how but I will find a way to get away from you and you will never find me again…I Hate You.’ Y/n released Fenrir’s fur and stood, pulling away from her mothers phony comfort and walking into the house without a glance back at anyone.
She knew her parents would never let her leave, they would see her as “in danger” every moment she was alone and maybe that’s true but she didn’t care, it had to be better than this lonely, painful life that she was living.
Y/n spent the rest of the night sobbing until she passed out, unable to keep her eyes open anymore.
Klaus truly felt awful for letting her believe him dead. He could see how much his wolf meant to her already and he couldn’t say he was shocked. This girl had been cut off from the outside world due to her fathers paranoia, she couldn’t leave the house and go to school or have a job or make friends and while her life with Klaus would be much the same (as he is also a paranoid bastard) he would never leave her alone to wonder if he loved her or not. She would never doubt his love. Plus she would have Fenrir to snuggle whenever she wanted.
Klaus knew that getting Y/n to trust him wouldn’t be hard and if it was any other situation he would find that funny but he loves her and he doesn’t care for how vulnerable her father has left his mate. If anyone else had gotten there before Klaus she could have been hurt and he would have had to kill her father for that, something he didn’t really want to do.
He knew that killing her parents would hurt her even if she says she hates them, therefore he wouldn’t be doing that but he also wanted James Barnes to know that his девочка was out there, alive…well…“Alive” and happy with another man and that he would never find her.
All Klaus needed to do now was create an environment that James would want or need to take his daughter to. He could compel someone to throw a party and depending on who it was he would have to bring his family or it would be insulting.
Having been invited into the house by his Princess, Klaus climbed his way through her open window and sat on her bed, stroking his fingers down her cheek. He was relieved to finally be able to touch her soft skin, even if he could only do so while she’s asleep, he would have her soon. It wouldn’t be hard to convince Y/n that he loved her and Klaus was thankful that she was his mate, he was saving her from getting hurt by a man in the future with much worse intentions and while Klaus’ intentions were to fuck her and keep her all for himself at least he knew that he would never cause her harm. He loves her. She is his mate, and he would care for his Princess for the rest of eternity.
Klaus would be her new Daddy.
And his little Baby would never be sad again.

Hii!! I’m currently back in my jjba phase (specifically part 4) and I was wondering if you could do relationship headcanons with Josuke? If not then you can totally ignore this!! Hope you have a great day/nice :D
Hello new Anon. You my friend has impeccable taste. Josuke is my baby girl and I adore him. You didn’t specify what the reader she be like so I took some liberties and made them a stand user, I just think it’s neat.
Tumblr media
Look at my pouty boy. I love him.
Josuke relationships headcannons
This man wears his heart in his sleeve and I love him for it.
He’s not one to shy away from talking to people if he really wants to, but I feel like you probably met him through Koichi. Either a childhood friend or you met in class but it wasn’t hard for you to befriend him. One afternoon after some studying together he took you with him to a cafe to grab some food and that’s where Okuyasu and Josuke bombarded him at the table. And that’s when they met you.
He loved sitting beside you at the cafe as you finished your food before begrudgingly saying goodbye to everyone and heading home. He’d never admit it, but he wish you wouldn’t have left, give him a chance to get to know you at least! Oh well.
But then, you bumped into him again, running from some trouble. Just like him you were a stand user, so it wasn’t uncommon to get in trouble for things that weren’t your fault. Your stand had a bit of a mind of its own so often got you into trouble.
After that day, when he met your stand, you two became very close. If your stand is strong then he introduces you to Jotaro, bragging about how he’s his nephew and that he always asks him for help with his work. Cut to him begging Jotaro for you to join them constantly.
Anyways, onto more relationship based headcannons.
My man loves it when you play video games with him. When you come over to study he usually tries to distract you to get you to join him and play but please make him study. His mom would appreciate you motivating him to study.
After the studying is done, he loves sitting back and watching a movie with you, wrapping his arms around you and not letting go.
He loves to kiss your forehead whenever you meet up for the first time each day. He’s a very affectionate person, most definitely getting you flowers every Valentine’s Day, chocolates are unavoidable as well. Don’t reject his love he’ll probably cry once he’s alone.
Yours and his stand are often seen holding hands, just like you do with him. It’s especially funny to the rest of your friends when your stand is crushed in his hugs and you sort of just keel over wherever you’re stood. Even Josuke thinks it’s funny but then remembers it probably hurts and tries to help you.
All in all he’s a 10/10 boyfriend.
Sorry this one took so long. I’ve been feeling very unwell recently and be stressed with college. Anyways hope you enjoy what I have here Anon.

Harry has been your first ever crush. As your brother’s best friend, it was kind of inevitable to fall into the cliche of yearning after the boy that always hung out in your basement, playing video games with your brother and eating out the fridge. He was practically family. Well, not to you, because you always harboured deeper feelings for him, but you kind of always knew he only saw you as a little sister. with an age gap of four years, he always felt like he was out of your reach, way too old for you.
But the years went by, he went off to college with your brother and you did the same when your time came and suddenly you weren’t a little girl anymore but a 26 years old woman with a buzzing career and a whole new, independent life away from where you grew up.
You were visiting home and it happened to be at the same time your brother did too along with Harry who was still his best mate. Your mom invited him over for dinner and you were nervous to see the boy you were so desperately in love with as a teenager. You put on a nice dress, did your hair and makeup and excitedly waited for him to arrive.
When he walked in it was like all the air got knocked out of your lungs and suddenly you were thirteen again. He had the same smile on his face, a bouquet of flowers in his hands for your mom and he wore a blazer over a button down shirt which felt like an odd outfit for him but he somehow still made it work. His eyes locked on you and it seemed like he was speechless, taking the new, grown you in. Last time he saw you you barely just turned eighteen, you were definitely starting to look more mature then but you were nowhere near your current form.
“Y/N, hi!” he softly greeted you before pulling you into a hug.
Dinner felt like heaven and hell at the same time, because you couldn’t stop staring at Harry, you wanted to ask a million questions but you kept quiet, sipping on some red wine. You played some board games later and talked some more before the boys went down to the basement for some nostalgia and your parents called it a night. You showered and tried to get yourself to bed bout you felt so restless, you went down to the kitchen to make yourself a tea but were met with Harry already putting on the kettle.
“Can’t sleep?” he asked with a cheeky smile as he grabbed a mug for you as well, still moving around the place like it was his home.
“Too much on my mind,” you shrugged.
“Maybe it would be easier if you unloaded some of it,” he suggests, pouring the hot water into the mugs.
“You want to have a heart to heart with me, Styles?” you chuckle as he hands you the mug.
“Only if you want to.”
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea.”
“Why not?”
“Because I don’t trust myself around you.”
Your bold answer surprised him as he looked at you over the brim of his mug, analysing your words wildly.
“Did I do something to earn that?” he asked at last.
You shook your head. “No. But I’m feeling very nostalgic right now and I feel like a teenager again. And as a teenager I was madly in love with you.”
You had no idea where this courage was coming from, the flirting, the eye contact, it was all so daring but you couldn’t and didn’t want to hold yourself back.
“Is that so?” he hummed and his face was unreadable.
“Yeah. Surprised?”
“Not entirely. I had a suspicion, but I guess it never registered in my mind.” He took a sip of his tea, his eyes glued to you. “But I guess it hit me in the head when I saw you tonight.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” you tilted your head to the side.
“It means that I didn’t see the little girl anymore, just the beautiful woman you are today and for a moment I debated whether you still feel the dame about me or if you’ve moved on.”
Now he was definitely returning the flirting and you liked where it was going. There was a switch in the air that just added more to your confidence as you put your mug down and moved closer to him.
“What would you do if I still felt the same way?”
Harry stared down at you, his eyes lazily wandered down to your lips and then back to your eyes before he answered.
“I would find out how bad you really want me and then show you that I feel the same way.”
You couldn’t tell if you actually moaned or it was just in your head, but you both moved towards each other at the same time, only for the moment and opportunity to be crushed by your own brother who came into the kitchen with heavy steps, making you jump back instantly.
“Alright, I’ll give you a ride home, bud, I’m ready,” he announced, jiggling his car keys before he headed out.
“How long are you staying home?” Harry asked in a rush, pure lust swirling in his eyes.
“Tuesday.”
“Come over tomorrow?” he asked, backing towards the door, but still looking straight into your eyes. You could only nod before he smirked and walked out, leaving you alone in the kitchen with your hammering heart and the realisation that you literally just seduced your brother’s best friend.

Furball
Eddie X Fem!Reader
Summary : Eddie has been being tortured by a scratching sound for days, but what is it?
Word Count : 1.5K
Tumblr media
Warnings : Fluff, no actual romance, minor angst, minor character death (death of eddies mom and readers mom), reader referred to as Y/N, readers dad and uncle wayne shipping the kids lmao.
Really ramble-y, purely written because my cat had a kitten 🤍
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
There it was again, that scratching sound. Eddie groaned shoving his head underneath his pillow to block out the noise. “Eddie!” his uncle Wayne’s voice called, he sighed knowing he wasn’t getting back to sleep anytime soon.
“Coming.” Sitting up, he threw the pillow back to the top of his bed, grabbing a shirt from the ground and sliding it on. Walking out of his bedroom to find his uncle, he ran his hand through his curls, messy with sleep.
“Welcome to the land of the living kid,” Wayne chuckled seeing his nephews disheveled appearance. “Ha, very fun-” the boy was cut off by the familiar scratching sound, “Can you hear that?!” he exclaimed.
Wayne cocked his brow, “Son you’ve been smoking a little too much, I’d lay off if I was you.” His Eddie threw his hands dramatically in the air, the noise stopping as he did.
“Anyways, you need to get dressed.” “Why?” he asks his uncle. “We’ve been invited for late lunch at my new colleges house. City guy, tryna help the company, make it all shiny and new,” Wayne explained.
“And we’re going why?”
“Listen he’s a nice enough guy, got a kid your age or something. Do this for your old man, dress nice, we could use an extra penny.”
“Okay okay, just let me go-” the scratching continued, “You cannot tell me you can’t hear that!”
Wayne sighed and lit a cigarette, letting his nephew run around trying to find the noise, not taking any notice.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
Pulling up in Wayne’s old car, Eddie let out a whistle, “When you said they were city folk I didn’t think you mean like this,” he nodded towards the flash car they parked next too.
“Listen David’s a well off guy, but he’s nice, real humble, was excited to get to know the folk around here.”
“Must be upset he’s moved to little old Hawkins.” Climbing out the car Eddie was almost throw over, a shorter person smacking into him. “Oh my gosh I’m so sorry!” they exclaimed.
He met their eyes and was taken aback, they were beautiful. “Jeez Y/N, you already making an impression on our guests,” a masculine voice spoke , Eddie saw a man stood by the front door.
Wayne shook the grey haired man’s hand, wearing a t shirt and slacks, he smiled, “Nice to see you Wayne, and you must be Eddie.” He held out his hand to him too, “Nice to meet you sir.”
“Oh please call me David, and this is my daughter Y/N,” he motioned to the girl stood next to him, who waved her hand awkwardly. “Well come on in, foods almost done.”
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
Eddie was quite surprised by their home, yeah it was nicer than his and Wayne’s, but it was so normal. So homely. He wandered around the living room looking at pictures here and there, Wayne was chatting in the kitchen with David.
He smiled at the photos, one of David and his wife on their wedding day, christmas’, a picture of Y/N missing her front teeth, grinning widely. He came to one that looked more recent, Y/N and her mother, holding hands sat looking away at the sun, smiling.
“She’s pretty isn’t she,”the girl spoke next to him, causing him to jump slightly, “sorry.”
“It’s okay. And yeah she is, will she be joining us?”
“Oh um, she passed.”
“I’m sorry,” Eddie spoke quickly.
“Don’t worry about it, it was quick, peaceful. Few days after that actually,” she motioned to the photo, and Eddie now noticed how her mom wore a scarf on her head. “My moms gone too. It’s hard, but hey you’ve got your dad, you’ll be able to get through this.”
She smiled at him, “Yeah, like you and your uncle,” to which he responded with a nod. “Hey Y/N honey, did you get any lemonade?” David shouted through to the living room. “Oh yeah I’ll come help now dad.”
Dinner was nice, David was a kind guy, seemed genuinely interested in Wayne and Eddie. Not just work stuff, but what they did as a family, Eddies band and other things.
Y/N was sweet too, but held back from asking many questions, seeming like her mind was somewhere else.
“Honey did you have any luck with Sabrina?” her father asked, to which the girl shook her head. “Nope, I did ask around when I was getting the lemonade.”
“Sabrina?” Wayne asked the pair.
“She’s our cat. She’s pregnant, well she might not be now, she wandered off a few days after we got here. I haven’t seen her since,” Y/N sighed, stabbing a piece of her pasta and popping it in her mouth.
“Cats tend to find a cosy space, that’s nice, dry and safe to have their kittens. Sabrina was always wondering though, only way you could find her was to listen for her scratching stuff,” David laughed.
Eddie dropped his fork making three sets of eyes fall on him, “You okay son?” Wayne asked.
“I think I know where she might be.”
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
“I knew I wasn’t going crazy!” Eddie exclaimed as he ran towards the trailer, he climbed inside, followed by Y/N. “You sure it was scratching you heard?” She asked, unable to hear anything. “Yes! Just give it a minute.”
The pair sat down on his bed, when Y/N spoke quietly, “She was my moms cat you know. Took her years to talking my dad into getting one, but he fell in love with her straight away, kinda like my mom.”
He smiled at her, “We’ll find her, even if she’s not here. I’ll help you look for her, she can’t have gotten too far.”
“Thank you Eddie.”
“And hey maybe after we find her, I can show you around Hawkins, give you the grand tour.” She laughed and nodded, “I’d really like th-” her words were cut short by scratching.
“There it is!” Eddie said.
“It’s coming from outside,” she grabbed the curly haired boys hand and ran outside to the back of the trailer.
“Sabrina, where are you hiding pretty girl?” she spoke gently, crouching low. Soon enough a small furry face popped out from behind the water tank.
A brown cat with green eyes, she started chirping at Y/N instantly running up to get pets, the girl took her into her arms, hugging her close.
“This is where you’ve been hiding then, terrorising my new friend Eddie!” she scolded lightly, pressing her lips gently on the animals head.
Eddie smiled at the interaction, and even more so when Sabrina meowed at him. He held out his hand for her to sniff, she head butted it gently, allowing him to scratch her ears.
Another small chirp broke out from behind the water tank, making Sabrina break out of Y/Ns hold and run back under the trailer. “Pretty girl come back!” she called out, and soon she did, but with a tiny tabby creature in her mouth.
The girl sat down on the grass, crossing her legs and allowed Sabrina to drop the kitten down. “Well you have been busy haven’t you mama?” she asked the older cat, gently stroking the small baby.
The brown cat ran away again coming back with a baby that was almost identical to her, she placed it with her other baby and went away again.
For a final time she returned with a small ginger cat in her mouth. Laying in Y/Ns lap with the kittens, allowing them to nuzzle into her, “Well done sweet girl, look at these babies, should we take them home and show Dad?” she asked, fussing her head.
Eddie smiled and sat down next to them, “This is what you’ve been scratching about?” he questioned, stroking the tabby baby gently, which Sabrina happily accepted. “Well how can I be mad at that?”
“Lucky you Sabrina, you haven’t lost me my nice new friend.”
“I think I might be hooked actually,” he grinned at the girl. “Oh yeah? Not surprised kittens will do that.” He hummed,
“Hey do you have a box we could put them in? Just to move them?” she asked
“Sure, I’ll go see,” he pushed from the ground, and jogged round to the front door of the trailer. “I hope we can keep this friend pretty girl, he seems sweet, don’t you think?” to which the cat only replied with a chirp and a nudge of her head for more pets.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
“Well Mama and her babies are all settled,” Y/N smiled at Eddie, “Thank you for the help, and hey if you hear any more scratching, you know who it is.”
The curly haired boy laughed, and nodded, “I do. Hey about that tour, I know you’ll have your hands full with these furballs for a while so, maybe I could come and help?”
“I’d really like that Eddie. And if that’s the case maybe you should name one of kittens.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, go for it.”
“Well how about Ozzy?”
“Like Osbourne?” she laughed.
“Exactly, little metal heads in the making!” He smiled at the kittens suckling from Sabrina who was snoozing.
The pair sat quietly enjoying the company one another, unaware of the two sets of eyes on them. “20 bucks says they’re dating in a month,” Wayne nudged David who nodded in agreement.

Weirdo (pt. 2) The Hell am I Doing Here? (pt.3)
* ・‥…━━━━━━━ *˖◛⁺♡ ━━━━━━━…‥・
You were a bright-faced, cheerful girl. You attended a community college in Austin since you moved in with your dad when you turned 18. You spent your childhood with your mother and barely saw your dad. You decided to cut your old man some slack given how difficult your mom is, so despite her wishes, you moved in with your dad once you graduated high school.
Your dad had been best friends with Joel Miller since he got to Austin some years back, and the summers you would spend over there, you got along just fine with his daughter Sarah. Now that you’re all grown up and in college, you barely see each other, especially since Sarah is studying out of state. Once she gets home, you two plan a sleepover to catch up and do girl things, like the old days. You both decide to have the sleepover at Sarah’s house since she has a pool, and you don’t. You spent the whole afternoon together splashing in the water, playing mermaids like you would when you were little.
Joel was in the house while you both were having your sleepover. He hates to admit it, but you’ve gotten so gorgeous in his eyes. Your curvaceous figure, plump ass and thighs, plush tummy, hell, even your breasts are enticing to him. He never really noticed you till after you moved in with your father. He simply couldn’t take his eyes off of you. If he was being frank with himself, he’s always loved bigger women. He loved the idea of holding onto their hips with a bruising grip as he fucked them from behind. He wanted to see the women beneath him jiggle from the amount of force he’d pound into them with. He wondered how wonderfully you’d shake if he were to have his way with you. Joel returned from his thoughts when you both entered the house, dripping wet. It took everything within Joel not to groan at your damp state. He simply just went upstairs, away from the temptation.
.。・:*♡ ♡*:・。.
After having a shower and eating dinner, you and Sarah change into your PJs and decide to tuck in and watch a movie. 30 minutes into the film, you both fall asleep, exhausted from swimming around all day. You had thrashed around in your sleep, finding a comfortable position as you were in and out of consciousness. The precarious position made your tank top ride up on your tummy, and your sleep shorts that barely covered your ass had exposed the entirety of your thighs.
Joel decided to check in on his girls to ensure they were okay. He quietly opened Sarah’s door and took in their sleeping forms. He mumbled, “Good night, baby girl.” He then turned his attention to you, the blanket on you long forgotten on the floor and exposing you to him. He slowly and quietly made his way over to you, eyeing you down, his breath hitched.
“Look at you. A vision for sore eyes. So fucking pretty.” He whispered as he got down on his knees. He scanned your body from top to bottom, taking in your vulnerable state. Joel moved his hand to caress your tummy. “So plump and soft.. must be a nice pillow.. fuck imagine your pretty little stomach filled with my babies.” He said to himself as his cock strained in his sweatpants; the thought of breeding your little pussy and impregnating you excited him.
He moved on to palm your tits over your tank top. Your nipples had hardened when he began touching you. You were none the wiser, simply asleep. A victim to the perverse man before you. “So fucking soft. Wanna paint your pretty tits with my cum..” As gently as he could, he moved his hand down to your clothed pussy. His eyes darkened as he cupped your clothed sex. He wondered if you were wet right now due to his touch.
He knows he shouldn’t; he knows that this is all wrong; you’re his best friend’s daughter and his daughter's best friend, for Christ's sake! He shouldn’t want you! His desire silenced all rational thought.
He moved your sleeping shorts aside along with your panties and opened your folds. You let out a soft whimper in your sleep, causing Joel to stop his movements. Once you settled down in your sleep, Joel resumed praising your wet cunt. “Fuck. Such a beautiful princess. I want to fuck your tight little hole and ruin you for anyone else. Mark you up, fill you with my cum. Make you mine..” Joel whispered into your cunt, his fingers gently running along the wet seam of your puffy cunt. He couldn’t take it anymore; he just had to have a taste!
Joel leaned forward and began to press soft kisses to your pussy. He gently lapped up your wetness and sucked on your clit. With his free hand, he had moved it down his body to palm his hard cock, trying to alleviate his arousal.
There was no way you didn’t feel what was happening between your legs as your orgasm approached. Your eyes opened, and your hand flew to yank the hair of whoever was eating you out.
“M-Mr. Miller?!” You whispered as you looked down at him in horror. Joel chuckled in a dark tone as if you were catching him doing something naughty. “Hey, princess. Don’t mind me, just tasting the sweetest honey from the sweetest girl.” He purred as he gave one long lick up your pussy, never taking his eyes off yours as he did so. You held back a loud moan by slapping your hand over your mouth. You couldn’t believe this was happening. Sure, you found Mr. Miller attractive, but you never thought he’d be into you as well.
“C’mon, pretty girl, let me finish what I started in my room. I don’t wanna wake Sarah up now.” He smiled at her, standing up, holding his hand out to you. You bit your bottom lip to think for a few seconds before deciding to go. Screw it. He was a hot older man, and you’ve wanted him for a while now. One night couldn’t hurt. Could it?

stay home ☆ you want to go out, but your step brother has other ideas.

ran haitani x f!reader

“you’re not goin’ out in that, are you?” amethyst eyes peer over at you from where your step brother is sitting on the couch. it makes you stop for a second, pursing your lips while squinting at him, blinking a few times to hopefully convey your loss for words.
“now, why would that matter to you?” you tilt your head, shaking it. ran has never cared to speak on any decision you made before. not who you chose to hang around, when you chose to leave, and especially not what you wore. but ever since you came back from college, that seems to be all that comes out of his mouth.
“because ‘m older,” he shrugs. this summer is supposed to be for you, your dad and ran’s mom have vacations lined up back to back for the majority of it. so, you were going to do whatever the hell you wanted in your hometown before you transferred from your community college to the major university across the country—at least that was what you had been planning for the last two months. “and you should respect your elders.”
he doesn’t move from his seat, just spreads his arms along the back of the couch, rolling his head to look up at you, waiting for your eyes to meet his own before he gives you a small, disingenuous smile.
“and maybe ‘cause my mom told your dad i would keep an eye on you while they’re gone.” he turns back to whatever he had playing on the tv, raising his hips to adjust his seating.
“i dont need you to babysit me.” you grumble, walking towards where you lanyrd hangs by the front door to escape the conversation. only, of course, your designated hook is empty. “haitani.”
“oh, guess you need these to leave, huh?” he doesn’t look back as he holds up your keys, shaking them tauntingly before wrapping the lanyard’s material around his fingers and pocketing them.
“give me my keys.” you sigh, dragging the words out like a pleading child. you already know this is going to be useless, if you learned anything from the past six years you’ve spent as a stepsibling to the two toned haired man, it’s that he gets off on tormenting others.
“i’m just looking out for you.” he almost sounds sincere, but then you make the mistake of looking at him. and even with the distance between you and where he’s now standing beside the couch—you can make out the look of sadistic amusement written all over his face.
“you can look out for my foot when i put it up your ass.” you smile tighty, making your way towards him.
“nah, i’m not into that.” he shakes his head, clearly not bothered by your words or the intimidating look you’re trying to give him.
you give up on talking, finding no use when everything that comes out of his mouth is just to tease you. he meets you in the middle of the kitchen, as soon as he’s close enough you try to get your keys, shoving your hand in his sweats pocket, but you find nothing—well, not anything metal. you find warmth, something much rounder, softer than your keys.
“pervert.”
with wide eyes and burning cheeks, you draw your hand back, pressing it to your chest.
“i just—i want my keys.” you blink, face burning as you look everywhere but up at the deep lavender eyes you can feel staring down at you.
“i know you just watched me put them in my other pocket.” you can feel your stomach turn at how he speaks so coolly. “if you wanted to touch my dick you could’ve just asked.”
“what?!” you cringe, finally looking back at him. “you’re disgusting.”
his eyes are low, an eyebrow raised, long braided hair accentuates his face. you realize you haven’t stood this close to him since you’d arrived, only now recognizing how different his stature is. he’s always been tall, but the few inches he’d grown, plus the weight he’d put on—it’d made all the difference.
“you’re the one who grabbed my dick.” he does that stupid shrug again as he licks his lips, not bothering to fight the smirk that plasters itself on his face. no longer bothering to hide how much he was enjoying tormenting you.
“on accident.” you retort, eyes falling to his other pocket, hesitant to try to retrieve the keys again.
“aw, sure.” he nods his head, looking back towards the living room—glancing down at you for a split second before walking that way, and like a needy toddler, you pad behind him.
“i didn’t mean to.” you argue again, though you know, that he knows that you really didn’t.
“whatever you say.” is all you get back.
“just give them to me!” you nearly run into his back when he suddenly stops just before the couch.
“okay,” he turns back to you, keys in his palm, pulling them out of the pocket they definitely were not originally put in. “you can fuck me for them.”
your jaw physically drops. you can only blink up at him. he looks down at you, head tilted to the side as he wants for your answer. your lanyard stays wrapped around his hand—the metal resting in the center of his palm, just an arm away.
“eat shit, haitani.” you try to put more bite in your words—but they come out weak. your arm extending in an attempt to snatch the keys, but he pulls back that much faster.
“gross.” he sneers, “you into that?”
“you’re awful.” your face scrunches again in annoyance. “we’re related, you fuck.”
“hm, but we’re not?” he says it so cheerfully, like he’s so sure of himself. you’re sure he’s delighted you’ve been playing so far into his game.
“can i please just—” you try reaching for them again, to no avail. this time though, ran catches your wrist. you have no time to pull away before he bends it behind your back and uses it as leverage to push you down over the back of the couch.
“what was that?” you can feel his breath as he talks by your ear, body folded over your own. “please what?”
“ran—“ you cut yourself off with a gasp as you feel his dick rub against your ass.
“yeah?” he leans back, grinding his waist against yours. your tight clothing makes it easy to feel his hardening cock. “thought i was gross? you’re begging for me now?”
“as if,” you try to push yourself up, to jerk free from his grasp. but all that training has to be good for something. “just let me go ran!”
“aw, but you’re getting wet,” he notes out loud, his free hand coming between the two of you to adjust his cock so that it was pressing against your cunt with each roll of his hips. “‘can feel it through this stupid fucking skirt.”
it makes you pant, the warmth of it, the thickness—the dirty dirty thought of getting turned on this easily, and by him of all people.
“really want me to stop?” he asks softly, seemingly giving you an out. but the heat pooling between your legs, the image of his soft lavender eyes as you look over your shoulder at him, the way his eyelids hang low with lust, it clouds your mind too much for you to be logical.
you bite your bottom lip as you shake your head, keeping eye contact as the stupid god damn smirk reappears.
“yeah?” is the only thing you hear before the sound of ripping material.
“ran!”
“shut up,” he tears the skirt a bit more, right down the seams it feels, and all you can do is lie there. “hate this shit.”
you’re about to open your mouth to say something else, to chastise him more but the press against your slit steals the words from your tongue.
“now these,” he runs his finger up and back down, pressing the wet, soft lace into your skin. “i like.”
you close your mouth, biting your lips in an attempt to silence the pathetic sounds building in your throat the second ran peels your underwear to the side. but it almost immediately becomes impossible with the way his fingertips feel against the most sensitive part of you.
he takes his time, pressing small circles around your clit and making your knees wobble before retracting back to tease your entrance and watching as your hips try to push back on him.
“ran, please.” you drag out, impatience coursing through your veins right along with the small bits of pleasure he’s allowing you.
“now you are begging for me.” he chuckles lightly, but gives in and presses his middle finger into your cunt down to the knuckle. “thought i was mean? or was it disgusting?”
he adds another before you can even think to form a response. you can feel every curve of his slim, long digits as they drag out of you slowly before he presses them back in and rolls his wrist. nowy you do press back on them, trying to fuck yourself on them, desperate for what he’s not giving.
“so desperate, i thought you didn’t wanna fuck your step brother?” you hear his voice lower, feel his body crouch behind you. but the hold on your wrist, the fingers in your heat don’t move an inch. “who’s gross now?”
he nudges your legs apart with his knees, and however he does it—you can’t see anything but the black given to you by the couch cushion you've shoved your face into, you feel him lick up his own fingers, lick along your slit and attach his lips to your clit immediately sucking in pulses.
“fuck, fuck—” you can feel your legs about to give out, and he must feel it too because the hold on your arm is gone and is now bruising at the curve of your ass. he kneeds at the soft skin, as his other hand starts to rotate, fingers curling in against your soft walls in attempt to find that spot that’ll have you creaming on his face.
it only takes seconds for him to find it, even shorter for you to start chanting out his name as you grind down against him. doing all you can to hold yourself up, you can’t even think about the feeling of his stupid fucking lips smirking against your pussy as he brings you closer and closer to the edge. because even as your legs quake, your cunt spasms and gives him what he’s been working for, he doesn’t let up.
you attempt to move away but you’re far too weak in the legs, too weak everywhere to even really try. thank god your phone rings from where it somehow fell on the floor.
“yeah?” you hear him answer, though his fingers still push against your clamping walls languidly.
“no shit, this is mitsuya, huh?” he laughs darkly, pushing his fingers deeper, rougher inside you and it makes your stomach drop. “nah, my sister’s not coming out tonight.”
you hear silence behind the speaker between your overstimulated pants, and then ran is up again, fingers withdrawing from your cunt. and you try to catch your breath, but your sweet step brother doesn’t give you a chance before the phone is held up to your ear.
“go on, tell him you’re not coming out.” he says, moving behind you to drop his sweats.
mitsuya says your name through the phone hesitantly. you were supposed to drive across town to meet him and his friends, spend the night at his place. and you knew it was a bad idea the moment you agreed to it, that ran—even as nonchalant as he was about you before—would most definitely be pissed if he was to find out. and if you weren’t dripping down your thighs with arousal, your mind wasn’t fuzzy from the movement of ran loudly running the tip of his heavy cock along your slit; you probably would bite your tongue right now before giving away that you were fucking your stepbrother.
or maybe you’d question why ran didn’t have that much of a reaction to who was on the line.
but the feeling of him kissing your nape and lining himself up with your entrance pulls all thought from your head and you rush out something so you can just get the fuck off the phone and fully focus on pleasure.
“‘can’t come out—” you gasp as he presses the thick head of him past your entrance. “i have something to do at home.”

johnny suh / angst prompt requested by anon [see notes below] | 🎧 inspired by facebook friends niki
-
you do not know how it all started, really. maybe the little things piled up until they have become a single, big issue to deal with. maybe the magic isn’t there anymore. you two just shared an apartment like roommates. the dinner’s gone cold every time he comes home. johnny never says “i love you” back any longer. you were so sure of marrying him in the future but you couldn’t tell if he feels the same anymore. until you were right.
“i wish i never met you.”
and fuck, it was hard to hear those words coming from a significant one whom you’ve almost spent your whole life with. you couldn’t hold back your tears anymore—the frustration of feeling like a ghost walking around in the apartment just kicked in impulsively. no more holding back.
“me too, johnny.” you sneered. “i can’t believe i wasted the best days of my life with you.”
johnny did not know how grave his words were until you brought the ball to the other side of the court. he just stared at you, taken aback at your words. his guilt starts to creep in. he tried to maneuver it but you…
you just stormed off your shared living room and headed toward your bedroom. you brought out your luggage and piled the clothes unorganized and the quickest way possible. you wanted to get out. you felt suffocated and betrayed in a room with someone who wishes he would have been completely alone instead.
or who wishes it was another person instead of you who accompanied him all these years.
when you zipped your luggage, you did not spare a glance at johnny. in a snap, he saw you walking away from his life. gone are the honeymoon, cloud-nine days when your childhood best friend was head over heels when you said “yes, johnny. i’m yours. forever.”. it would’ve been nice to end up with your kindergarten crush, your pretend-to-be prom date because you two were too goofy to mingle around in high school, and the unserious-turned-A-student college jock who attended your college graduation because your parents were too far away from you.
and that night, neither of you called or texted. the lines are still open. you waited for him to apologize for being so so close-minded and for not trying to work things out because you would have given him another chance to explain himself, or maybe you could just hear him saying “i don’t love you anymore”, it would bring you to ease. but weeks and months went by, your urge to punch him endlessly in the chest subsided. the love turned almost so bitter, so hateful. it was so abrupt but you lost your best friend. and he just easily let whatever this was for him; but for you, it was your everything.
months turned to a year or two. you don’t know what he has been up to but seeing his instagram, he was traveling the states. recently, he visited his mom back in chicago. he was tagged in the photo, posted on his mom’s facebook account. he looked better, calm, even. when he was with you just weeks before the open-ended breakup, he could not keep his hands to himself; fidgeting everywhere. one minor inconvenience and he snaps.
you bumped into jaehyun. you assumed his friends were no longer your friends. but he was kind enough to recognize you from afar and say, “i missed you!”. he treated you to some coffee after work, and there you learned johnny was struggling with his career path. he left his law school life for photography for quite some time now, jaehyun said. he never expounded it but he said he is in a better and more consistent position in life now.
a part of you was sad that he never once brought it up, that he no longer trusted you in these kinds of things. this was the curse of open-ended things: your mind betrays you to give yourself your own closure—and the closure there is is you were no longer johnny’s home.
on the other hand, you quit social media. but you never deleted johnny’s pictures on your feed. needless to say, you have made yourself occupied with your work and life. you got promoted and opted for an apartment you can finally call your own. you’ve been seeing some and meeting new friends and potential lovers, but you couldn’t deny you weren’t ready for another relationship yet. you are pretty sure johnny is doing the same. he posts his champagne nights and new cities visited on his instagram. his stories were him hanging out with his friends. some are familiar, including jaehyun and mark. and you are glad.
but sometimes, it gets frustrating. you wish for johnny’s happiness to this day but you still torture yourself by scrolling through his feed sometimes. you just wait for him to block you, really. if he could just end your misery by hitting the damn block button, you would come back to social media without your mind thinking betraying you that he’s still checking up on you. because johnny never did anyway. because what fucking part of “i wish i never met you.” is him not deleting your shared photos together so you can finally call it a day?
then a minute later, you were crafting a long text saying you wish him the best, and your prerogative tells you in order to move on, you’re cutting off lines. johnny wanted this to happen anyway, you thought. you’re also doing this for yourself. it has been two years, for fuck’s sake. and he threw all those years spent together like nothing.
but it was so stupid to let someone know you are finally blocking them, isn’t it?
so you hit the backspace button until all the things you wrote for an hour, all carefully curated, were gone. you scoffed when you almost sent that you miss him every day, that you pray for him for whatever he’s going through, and that you’re glad that he visited his mom after five years of being homesick. because what part of this sweet cooing he deserves? you have to admit, the push and pulling of emotions, of letting go and trying one more time have been a massive conflict, and fuck, you have been so inconsistent. all of these because you still couldn’t properly process that last night when he invalidated you.
you were about to close the messaging app when johnny’s status lit green.
and the conversation thread has made appear three grey dots from his end.
you waited.
until johnny's message appeared on your screen.
“i have everything now. but what’s the point of these if you’re not here?"
-

You take a deep breath before exiting your car.
As you approached your front yard, with a heavy suitcase in hand, you started naming five different things you could see – then, five things you could smell. The way your chest seemed to tighten when you rang the doorbell didn’t go unnoticed by you, although you did fully ignore it. Coming back to your hometown has always made you feel like cattle arriving at the butcher’s.
The drive is easy, familiar – even though you only come home a couple of times a year, strictly for important holidays. It isn’t that you hate where you come from, it’s more complicated than that and, frankly, sometimes you wish it was that simple.
Catching up with your parents seems to be the less difficult part out of all of it: their questions are simple, easy. You can’t quite tell if their interest in you only goes so far, or if they are scared of what you may answer them. Either way, it’s a routine you’re already used to.
“School’s fine, mom.” You reassure, hugging her tightly. She mentions something about how quickly time passed since you first left for Trost University, and you hum in agreement. It’s been around four years, and, although you visit on Christmas, your mom repeats the same questions. It’s a mom thing, you figure.
“How are your friends, sweetie?” Your father asks, helping move your suitcase into the house. His words are supposed to be caring, normal even – although you can’t help but feel your throat tighten with the threat of tears.
“They’re all good.” You answer with a smile, hoping he wouldn’t ask further – and he doesn’t. This one would be hard to explain.
Despite feeling emotional about being in your old home, you can admit there’s some part of it you actively enjoy. It’s less noisy than the place you rent at downtown Trost, and, on summer nights like this one, you might be able to see a few fireflies in your front yard. It’s almost comical, how Shiganshina seems to be frozen in time – or, perhaps, you’re the one who’s been going through constant changes.
Greeting your family members, playing with your childhood dog and sleeping in your old twin sized mattress are part of it. You feel like an external visitor when you walk up the stairs, even though you’re still very much aware of which steps snap under your weight and which doesn’t.
Your phone buzzes when you’re brushing your teeth to go to bed, an hour or so after excusing yourself from your mom’s inquiry – how’s school? Are your friends nice? Your father says Trost is a great place-
connie springer:
long time no see, stranger
Your heart skips a beat. The toothpaste in your mouth almost burns your tongue, as you stand in front of the foggy bathroom mirror before spitting in the sink. What does your friend-from-high-school-who-you-haven’t-talked-in-a-year wants from you, at almost midnight?
you:
hey connie, how’s it been?
connie springer:
eh, same as usual. u?
you:
i’m alright
connie springer:
cool
stori was asking for your number, can i send it to her?
You frown at the message. None of this situation makes any sense, especially given the fact Historia Reiss definitely has your number and you text each other – as well as Ymir – on an almost daily basis.
you:
yeah, sure
You breathe deeply, exiting the bathroom and entering your childhood bedroom, feeling suffocated by the past – polaroids, fairy lights and books on top of books don’t fail to bring back memories of which you so desperately want to forget. You cannot bring yourself to spend another night plagued by thoughts you wish wouldn’t clog your brain – your therapist wouldn’t be proud of that, you think.
Unlocking your phone, you look for Ymir’s number, refusing to debate with yourself on whether to call her.
“Hey.” She answers after a few seconds, seeming to expect your call. “Before you say anything, I know. Also, I’m with them right now.” The last words are whispered, muffled by loud music playing in the background – some trendy Doja Cat song indicates she’s at a get-together at one of your mutual friend’s house. You’re not upset: no one else knows you arrived at Shiganshina today, however you give a day or two before you’re spotted in public and everyone else finds out.
“Ymir, what the fuck is going on?” You question, sounding more scared than angry. Your breathing is shaky, and your friend can hear your worry through the static. She’s been that, done that and won’t judge your behavior – even though it seems a bit uncalled for.
“It’s okay, don’t worry. Historia’s birthday is next week, and we had to pretend to have lost your number since you changed it cause, you know…”
You do know. Historia and I have to pretend we’re not in touch with you, out of respect for what you asked us a couple of years ago. Your eyes shut, and you sigh.
“You’re safe, they don’t know yet… but I don’t think you can keep running from them any longer. Jean is one step away from pulling up to your folks’ place with the whole gang.”
You snort in response, imagining a scene of your friends stuffed in Jean’s jeep. This is what you get from hiding, you guess. You hear someone calling Ymir from the background, which she doesn’t pay any mind to.
“Yeah, I understand.” you reply. “Thank you for the support, really and, um… see you soon, I guess?”
Ymir smiles genuinely at your words, lowering her head to watch the scene of Sasha running after Connie from the balcony.
“See you soon.”
-
The sight of the local grocery store doesn’t ease the sinking of your stomach – in fact, it only makes it worse.
Your father texted you during your morning run letting you know you ran out of eggs, and he’s in the mood for pancakes. It was your unspoken duty to get them for him, and this time you don’t whine like when you were a teenager. Moments like this with your family are more appreciated by you, now that you’re no longer around them.
Getting out of your car, you place a pair of headphones on your head and select one of your carefully made playlists. You enter the store, nodding to the customer who gets out and passes you by – a friend of a friend, maybe. Small town culture.
“Morning.” You greet the cashier, a teenager bored out of his mind, but still greets you back.
You walk down a couple of aisles before finding the one you were looking for. You smile to yourself, feeling proud of the muscle memory ingrained in your body. Even after all these years, you still remember small details about Shiganshina.
The moment is short lived, given the fact someone calls your name – a raspy, almost angry voice.
Of course Levi Ackerman, out of everyone, is who you end up bumping into.
“Hey.” Your voice is small even when you take your headphones off. The short man eyes you up and down, opening his mouth like he was about to say something.
“Kid, how have you been?” A stronger, more demanding voice comes from behind the both of you. “We haven’t seen you in ages.”
Wherever Levi Ackerman goes, Erwin Smith is surely with him.
“Erwin, hi. I’m alright, just busy with school… you know how it is.”
Your tone is playful, almost as if you’re talking to an old friend – and, well, you kind of are. Levi is Mikasa’s older cousin, who took care of her ever since an early age. You remember he had a full time job, while still attending Shiganshina’s community college. He has always worked hard, for both him and Mikasa – and, when things got rough, their crazy uncle would drop by and help with groceries and rent.
And Erwin is, well… Erwin. Always with Levi, following the brunet wherever he goes. Roommates, is what the people around town call the pair – even though you, as well as other people, know better than that.
Levi resists the urge to roll his eyes at your response, and you should be aware he’s known you enough time to get a lie straight from your lips. Despite the joyful tone you offer them, he can tell this is rehearsed.
“Erwin, did you get the dog food?” The shorter man inquires, and his partner in crime sighs playfully. Baby blue eyes look into gray ones, as they seem to exchange a message that only they could understand.
“Ha, I almost forgot it. And kid, don’t be a stranger.” He winks, before exiting the animal products aisle, walking towards the store entrance.
This is the second time someone says don’t be a stranger under, what, twelve hours? You resist the urge to curse under your breath, lowering your head to hide your gaze from the eldest Ackerman.
“Listen,” He starts, voice barely above a whisper – even if you’re the only two people in the aisle. Your sneakers squeak on the floor when you move your legs in order to fully face Levi. “My cousin is too much of a stubborn brat to let you know that she misses you.”
You sigh. Your brain short-circuits with information and flashbacks: the last time you saw Mikasa in person was over a year ago, and frankly, you don’t think you’re ready to see her again. Even though you know she’ll be at Historia’s birthday celebration.
“She said that?” You ask, voice coming back to its normal tone.
“Of course not, it’s Mikasa we’re talking about.” He replies, and before you can ask him then how the fuck do you know that, he answers it for you. “She talks about you whenever she gets the chance, though. So does the lanky blond kid.”
“Armin?”
“Yeah, think so. Either way, take care, kid.”
That morning, you left the grocery store with a carton of eggs and an even more bruised heart.
-
You were watching reruns of a 2000’s television show a couple of days after the grocery store incident, when the doorbell rang, as your dog barked at the sound and got up from its place between your legs.Your parents had left to visit your uncle a few towns over, and miraculously didn’t make you tag along – perks of being an adult, right? You mom had said.
“Coming.”
You open the door to be met with the sight of your close friends.
“Oh, it’s you.” You mumble, rubbing your eyes as shy rays of sunshine enter the living room – you had closed the curtains a few hours ago, in order to remain in the dark. “Come in.”
“You know, ever since moving to Trost you kinda became a bitch.” Ymir says, entering your house as Historia giggles beside her. “I dig it.”
You smile as your dog barks at your friends, which causes the brunette to call him a little shit just like his mom.
“Mi casa es su casa.” You announce once you enter the kitchen, a place that holds many memories: preparing snacks for movie nights, cooking with your mom, helping your dad fix a cabinet or two…
“Speaking of Mikasa…” Ymir teases, as Historia sits on a stool near the kitchen isle, laughing at her partner’s incredulous choice of words. “It’s about time you talk to her.”
“True.” Reiss chimes in, in a soft manner. “She asked if you’re attending my birthday trip.”
“Trip?” You exclaim, opening the fridge and looking for cans of soda.
“Yeah, if you can consider going to Jean’s lake house for a weekend to be a trip.” Ymir huffs playfully, grabbing random ingredients from the cabinet. “Anyway, you have to go or we’ll have to kidnap you.”
You close the fridge, clumsily holding three cans of Pepsi in your arms. You place them on the counter, laying your elbows on the cold marble.
“Of course I’ll go. Wouldn’t miss Stori’s birthday.”
She smiles, letting out a soft awn sound.
Ymir places the ingredients on the kitchen island – two bars of chocolate, brown sugar, flour, vanilla essence. It’s a scene you’ve seen many times before, but it doesn’t fail to make your heart fill up with warmth and love for your friends.
“If you don’t talk to Mikasa willingly, I’ll make sure you will eventually. Got it?”
You laugh, despite her tone. You’re well aware it’ll happen sooner or later.
“Yes ma’am.”
-
The drive to Jean’s lake house, a few days after spending the night baking with your close friends, is less awkward than you thought it would be.
“Psych major huh?” Connie teases, playfully elbowing your ribs. You smile, playfully rolling your eyes.
“Yeah. It’s less glamorous than it sounds, though.”
Ymir takes a turn, brown eyes focused on the road ahead. The sun was starting to settle, bathing the world in an orange light.
“Reiner is too, right?” Historia attempts small talk, looking at you from the rear view. Her acrylic nails gently tap her bright phone case.
“Uh, yeah.” You answer, suddenly feeling a bit sour. It’s conflicting: you don’t want your Trost life and your Shiganshina “former” life to be tangled together, although it seems inevitable. “He’s uh, he’s in my class.”
Ymir snorts.
“That guy realized he’s gay yet?”
“Ymir!” You exclaim, even though her words earn a genuine laugh from you.
“Babe, you can’t say stuff like that.” Historia gently scolds her girlfriend, giving you a don’t mind her look. “What if he hasn’t told anyone about it?”
“Oh, please.” Sasha chimes in, through mouthfuls of potato chips. “He posts Berthold on his private account almost every day.”
Connie laughs – no, cackles actually. She’s got a point. The blond has a tendency to post pictures of his lover every now and then, drinking coffee together or having dinner at downtown Trost.
“True that.”
At that point, your soul almost leaves your body upon realizing your friends, who know nothing about who you are now, have access to Reiner’s private social media account. It shouldn’t shock or bother you in any way – unless they put the pieces together.
-
You arrive an hour or so after the rest of the group.
There’s loud simultaneous calling of your names, someone calling Ymir out for being late as always (which she responds with a middle finger), Connie running towards the welcoming sofa placed in the middle of the living room. Looking around the scene, you smile, feeling like you were watching a movie.
You see your friends interacting with each other, as you grip the handle of your duffel bag a bit harder. It feels like you’re a fly on the wall, frozen in time, doomed to watch life happen around you as your feet sink further into the hardwood floor. Armin is the first person to notice you – or, at least, the first person to be vocal about it – snapping you from your constant daydreams.
He says your name, approaching you with a bottle of beer in hand. His kind blue eyes seem softer, not hidden behind his blond locks anymore.
“It’s been so long, it’s good to have you back.” He offers, and you hug him.
Armin doesn’t mention the visible changes: your haircut is wilder now, but it still feels like you. There’s a few tattoos adorning your arms, peeking through your shirt. You stopped getting your eyebrows done, but it suits you better. The clothes you’re wearing are stylish, that much he can tell – although not in Shiganshina.
Leaving for the big city really has changed you. It looks like Trost allowed you to grow into this new version of you – or, if Armin is reading this right, you’ve always been like this: Shiganshina just never allowed you to exist like this peacefully.
“Yeah, you’re right.”
It’s been too long. Long enough for you to become someone else, you think.
“C’mon, let me show you your room. Youre staying with Sasha, I think” He says after you greet the rest of the group – which takes up about  half an hour of small talk and lies from your part, and questions from them. Yeah, Trost is amazing. Psychology is a great choice, I know. Visiting is hard, with constant exams and all that. I’m glad you guys understand.
Armin leads you towards the stairs, before turning around and making a wait gesture towards Mikasa.
It’ll be a long weekend.
-
Twilight is long gone, and the sky is washed in its regular black color, beautifully adorned with stars that are only visible in this sort of place. It’s the type of night that calls for drinks and exciting conversation. It’s less overwhelming than you thought it would be like, due to the fact you aren’t the only one who has been gone – although you’re the one who’s been hiding for the first time, avoiding your hometown friends like the plague. No one seems to address it, though, and for that you are grateful.
You’re a few shots in, finally starting to let loose. It feels magically nostalgic to have the whole group together. You haven’t met up like this in ages, due to most of your friends leaving Shiganshina behind to follow their own path. It seems like you’re the only one to hide and rarely come back, though.
“Truth or dare?”
A nostalgic night calls for nostalgic games.
Ymir’s voice sounds meaner than usual, almost as if she’s taunting you with her words alone. The chatter around you dies down a bit, as a few people – mostly Armin and Jean – stop what they’re doing – stalking Sasha’s new boyfriend on social media – to watch your answer.
You can feel your heartbeat picking up, as you unconsciously press your fingernails against your palms, creating half-moon shapes. You can feel Ymir’s laughter bubbling inside of her, regardless of the choice you make. But mostly, you can feel Mikasa’s eyes on you, and it feels like you’re the lamb who accidentally entered the lion’s den.
“Dare.”
A variety of things happen simultaneously once the word leaves your mouth, before you could even rationalize it. Connie whistles and, as you previously imaginez, Ymir cackles – which causes Historia to shush her, attempting to protect your honor.
You can’t bring yourself to understand why you chose dare, in the first place. Although, it felt freeing to let someone else choose your fate for you, even if it’s just a teenager’s game. Perhaps, what you’re not willing to admit to yourself yet, is the fact you know Ymir might help you make the decision you’ve been laying off for some time now.
-
Mikasa has always been the coolest kid you know.
Ever since you became acquaintances during freshman year, when you had braces and didn’t know how to properly do your makeup – Mikasa has had a special shine about her. You remember briefly bonding with her over the same bands you liked, given the fact she would wear metalcore band shirts like it was the school’s uniform. With her dark hair contrasting against her pale skin, and a pair of doe eyes that made all of the boys melt instantly, it was obvious she would end up like this – not popular, but cool.
You can even recall a moment of jealousy or two, as the hairy green monster clawed at your chest repeatedly. The feeling of your eyes burning at the scene of Mikasa and Eren making out at prom, dancing together as if the world belonged to them, is something that you have engraved in your mind, deeply so. Going to college, meeting new people, having new experiences everyday – that helped you with the process of finding out who you really are, who you’ve been all along.
It wasn’t until you turned twenty two, about to graduate university, that you realized you were never jealous of Mikasa because she got the boys’ attention – you were jealous she was dating someone who wasn’t you.
-
“Hmm, let’s see…” Ymir’s voice echoes through the living room, filled with outdated but expensive furniture. “I dare you to spend an hour in the basement.”
You snort. That seemed like an easy task, which makes the butterflies in your stomach die down a bit. You get up from your spot between Reiner and Annie, ready to spit a smart comment to Ymir, when her voice cuts through your eardrums again, causing your blood to freeze.
“With Mikasa.”

Smack!
The heavy hand came down on the meat of your right asscheek and you let out a noise halfway between a shriek and groan. All the time he continued to plough into you from behind, his thick cock rubbing against your walls in the best way.
“You’re just dumb for it, aren’t you sweetheart? You’d let me do anything I wanted, wouldn’t you, as long as I promised to stick my dick in you somewhere.”
His grip was harsh in your hair, holding your head back, and making you bend into a bow shape. The pain was a delicious counterpoint to the pleasure shooting through you.
Smack!
Another slap to your ass, the other side this time.
“I didn’t hear you answer, babygirl. Use your big girl words for Daddy. Agree you’re a dumb slut.”
You let out a low whine, your pussy somehow getting even wetter at his words.
“‘M a dumb slut, Daddy. Want your dick in me all the time.”
He snorted in amusement from behind you.
“Now, there’s a thought. Wouldn’t it be nice to have you sitting on my lap, bouncing up and down when I’m in a meeting. In front of everyone. Even your father…”
Oh fuck! Your walls clenched, as a mixture of arousal and shame rushed through you, and you heard him chuckle.
Tony Stark. Your father’s best friend and colleague, and your boss for the summer.
Tumblr media
You’d met him for the first time when you were 19, home for the summer from your first year of college. While you’d been away expanding your mind your father had scored a new job in the R&D department of Stark Industries.
It hadn’t meant much to you at first, other than a bit of fan-girling over the fact that your father actually saw Tony Stark regularly. However, the charismatic face of the company had decided to hold a company picnic for 4th July weekend, and it was there that you’d been introduced to him.
You’d been shy, ducking your head and trying to hide behind your hair as your heart had been beating loudly in your chest, you swore that your parents would hear it. You knew what Tony Stark looked like, of course, had seen him in the media, but meeting him in the flesh was altogether a different thing. He’d been dressed down, in scruffy jeans and an AC/DC t-shirt, but he still managed to knock all the air from your chest with one smile.
He’d been convivial, taking your Mom’s hand, kissing it, flattering her just the right amount to make your Dad beam with pride. Then your dad had introduced you, waxing lyrical about your college achievements so far.
Tony had shaken your hand and then smiled at your Dad before bumping his shoulder.
“Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree then. Careful, bud. She might run you out of a job if she keeps on.”
All three of them had laughed out loud, your Dad reminding him you were studying marketing, and therefore no threat to him, and your Mom giving you a jovial shoulder hug, but you’d just wanted the ground to open up and swallow you, because the sinful thoughts you’d been having were gonna send you straight to hell anyway. You’d somehow gotten through the day, sticking close to your mom as much as you could, and pretending not to notice the man who was goddamn Iron Man, because your body had been pulsing with a hereto unknown level of desire.
Luckily, or unluckily, you didn’t see him again for a full year, until the next corporate picnic. You’d hoped that with the passing of a year he wouldn’t affect you so much, but you’d had no such luck. His effortless charm and handsome face had been as distracting as previously, and you hadn’t known whether you’d wanted him to pay you attention or ignore you entirely - when he’d spoken to you, you’d barely been able to get a word out past your suddenly parched lips, but once he’d gone, circulating amongst his guests, you’d hadn’t been able to take your eyes off him. The cycle had continued for a further two years until you’d finally returned to live with your parents again, having gained your Bachelors degree in Marketing.
Getting a job was the next hurdle for your life, but you’d frozen in panic when your Dad had gleefully announced that he’d managed to organise for you to have a summer internship at S.I., assisting Tony  directly, no less. Which is what had led you to where you were now.
Within a week he’d cornered you in his office, and let you know he knew how you felt, had been watching you watch him over the last few years, and said if you wanted to do something about it, all you had to do was ask - he was captivated by you too. Your internship wasn’t at risk, and neither was your father’s job - he’d made that clear. The ball had been fully in your court.
You’d dithered for a few days, not feeling as though what was happening was real. He was older than you (although not as old as your Dad) and was, obviously, exceptionally powerful. You weren’t a shy virgin, having had a boyfriend in senior year of high-school and had a few dalliances while at college, but you’d have been the first to admit that the sex had never been as mind blowing as you’d been led to believe it would be. To be honest, it was that thought which had decided you on your path, because if sex could actually feel the way it was described in books and movies, then you’d had no doubt that Tony would make it feel that way.
Monday morning of your second week had rolled around and as Tony had returned from his first meeting, and flashed you a smile as he’d walked past your desk, you’d gotten up, followed him into his office, shut the door and dropped to your knees in front of him.
“Aren’t you an eager little thing?”
The condescending drawl had gone straight to your pussy as your fingers had fumbled with his belt and the fly of his Armani suit pants. When you’d freed his cock, you’d come to a grinding halt, the thick warmth of it lying in your hand and your mouth open in a small ‘o’. Tony had titled your chin up with his index finger and when you’d looked at him you’d seen he was smirking.
“Don’t be intimidated, sweetheart. I’m sure you can manage it, a clever girl like you. Come on, give it a go.”
You’d done so. You’d licked up and down his length, before swirling your tongue around his tip and then taking him in your mouth. He’d tasted wonderful, and as you’d bobbed your head up and down, jerking the lower half of his cock with your hand, Tony’s broad hand had stroked over your head and his lips had started to spew filth.
“That’s it, baby girl. You take what you want, what you need. And you do need it, don’t you. Aah-aah, not too fast. Savour it. Savour it. It’s not a race. Take your time.”
You’d done as he’d told you, slowing your movements, and, fuck, it had done something to you. You’d felt every ridge, every vein, as his cock had moved through your lips and over your tongue. Without realising it, you’d let out a little moan, when you’d tasted the drops of pre-cum that had leaked from his tip. You’d heard a thunk, and a glance up had revealed that Tony had let his head fall back against the wall behind him, but your attention had returned almost immediately to the task at hand.
“That’s it. Isn’t that better?”  He must have looked down at you, because he’d chuckled again. “You gone dumb on me already, sweetheart? No thoughts in your head at all now apart from having my cock inside you. Just… aah… think how good it will feeling when I’m deep in your pussy… fuck. Yes… come on… you’re gonna swallow it all, like a good cumdump, aren’t you? Swallow all of my cum. Don’t waste a drop…”
He’d cum with a groan, flooding your mouth and you’d tried your best to comply with his demand. You’d licked all over his softening cock, cleaning him up, and when you’d finally tucked him away you’d realised that your pussy was throbbing with need. Tony had seemed to immediately know what you’d needed. He’d pulled you up, and spun you both so your back was now to the wall. He’d swiped his thumb at the corner of your mouth, and then pressed it between your lips. You’d sucked on it automatically and he’d smirked.
“Told you not to waste any, baby girl. Now, let Daddy help you out. You must be drenched and aching after that.”
His other hand stuck its way up your skirt, deftly pulling your panties to the side and sinking one finger straight into your soaked pussy all the way up to the third knuckle. The thumb in your mouth muffled your moan, and you’d sucked on the digit harder as he’d pumped his finger. Within a few strokes, one finger became two, and then became three. Your hands had clung to Tony’s suit jacket as his fingers had filled you. When he’d taken his thumb from your mouth you’d whined, but he’d covered your lips with his own, kissing you, claiming you, and you’d cum on his fingers as his tongue had tangled with your own.
Tumblr media
That had been three weeks ago, and nearly every day the pair of you had fucked in the office. You’d also had your theory proven correct - it wasn’t sex that hadn’t been as good as you thought, it had been those you’d been doing it with. Tony, however, could turn you on with just a touch, and could drag wave after wave of pleasure from you. It was addictive. He’d also unlocked kinks within you that you didn’t know you had. You called him Daddy, the taboo nature of it sending a thrill through you every time the word left your mouth, and his sweet but condescending degradation left you soaked and in need of new underwear.
Today you’d managed to keep your hands off each other until lunch time. Tony had buzzed  your desk from his office at 12.30, and you’d picked up your notepad and pen as cover before heading inside and closing the door behind you.
He’d pulled you into a deep kiss, hands popping the buttons of your blouse and groping at your tits, before he’d roughly spun you and bent you over his desk. Your skirt had been pushed up and your panties dragged down your legs, which were then kicked apart to allow him access to your already dripping cunt. His plunging fingers had stretched you out quickly, before he’d sheathed his cock in you to the hilt, and set up a punishing pace.
Now here you were, agreeing you were a dumb slut.
He’d already wrung one orgasm from you, the evidence coating your thighs and you knew you were close to another. He never edged you, preferring instead to make you more and more delirious from overstimulation. At least today he wasn’t cupping a bullet vibe right over your clit - you’d had to spend the rest of the day sitting at your desk after that one…
The tension in your body and the clenching of your pussy gave you away to him, and he chuckled darkly.
“You gonna cum again, baby girl? Gonna cum on Daddy’s fat dick? Yeah, you are, aren’t you? Come on. Milk it. Make me cum too. You’re so greedy for it. Need your pussy full of cum to keep you happy when it’s not full of cock.”
“Yes, Daddy. Need your cum. Cum in me. Please!”  You broke off with a whine, your pussy spasming, your own cum rolling down your thighs and your vision going black. You heard Tony’s own cry of completion, felt him continue to pound into you as he filled you with rope after rope of cum until it too was leaking out of you, mingling with your own.
You didn’t like to think about what would happen when the summer came to an end. Would Tony still want to see you when you were no longer a convenient fuck? And what would your parents say if they found out?
Your worries disappeared though, driven from your head, when Tony pulled his cock from you, but immediately replaced it with his fingers, pushing your combined cum back into your puffy cunt.
“You’ve got another one for me, haven’t you sweetheart? Gotta stuff that cum deep into you so you don’t lose any later on when you’re taking the meeting notes and your panties are in my pocket…”

Answer (1/2)
Tumblr media
Pairing: ghost!Seonghwa x Reader ft. future San
Genre: Fluff, Angst, Ghost AU, Mystery, Supernatural elements, vaguely horror
Warnings: Religious content, toxic possessiveness, slight yandere, mentions of death, death
Word count (part specific): 1228
Summary: For as long as Seonghwa had been roaming the world as a ghost, he hadn’t remembered much of his life when he was... well... living. But one thing he does remember is you. His childhood friend whom he hadn’t seen since he moved in primary school. So naturally, he seeks you out.
To his surprise, you can see him. He immediately decides to hold onto you for as long as he can. After all, you’re the only tie he has to the living world. He doesn’t want anything to get in the way of what could be a normal life.
Not even your potential partners.
im sorry this took so long T-T it's for @flurrys-creativity's 666 Milestone Collab but I totally lost all motivation and didn't even know how to finish this. The second part comes out next week (6/23)!
Part 1 - Part 2
-
“So….you’re like…dead?” You look so confused and Seonghwa honestly finds it adorable.
“(Y/N), dear, when you first saw me I was floating a foot in the air. I am currently transparent. What more could you ask?” You roll your eyes and attempt to smack Seonghwa, but again, he is a ghost and your hand just passes through him. “See, even more evidence!” He can’t help but tease you. The look on your face is worth it.
“You are so not funny, Seonghwa,” you hiss, frowning at him. “I haven’t seen you since we were in primary, and now you’re just dead?”
“Sorry, sorry,” there’s still a laugh in Seonghwa’s voice, but he stops teasing you. “I died, yes. I don’t really remember how, but all I knew were fragmented memories…and your face was in most of them. So I decided to find you, and lo and behold! You can see me.”
Your eyebrows furrow and for a moment Seonghwa worries that he might make you cry. “That’s so sad. I’m sorry,” you frown at Seonghwa and he waves his hand as if trying to brush away your pity.
“Don’t worry about it. I get to see you again anyways, so it’s not too bad,” he jokes to lighten the atmosphere. “How is it, being an adult? You’re getting so old.”
His attempt works for the most part, although you’ve still got sadness in your eyes. “Shut up, you’re only a couple years older than me.” You attempt to shove him again, and this time Seonghwa lets himself materialise just a bit more so that you can make contact, and he falls onto his side with a giggle.
“That wasn’t very nice, (Y/N)! I am just trying to inquire about your life.” Seonghwa pouts and you roll your eyes at the sight.
“Life is good, I guess. My parents don’t live here anymore, but they let me stay since they paid off the mortgage and it’s closer to my university. I just pay the utilities myself,” you hum. “What else, what else. I’m going to community college to get my gen-eds done…and I think that’s about all.”
“Oh, where are your parents now?” Seonghwa asks. “They were always so nice to me. At least no one will think you’re crazy for talking to ghost me.” He nudges you a little and you slap his elbow away.
“Oh, shut up, I probably am a little crazy if I can see you,” you say lightheartedly, and Seonghwa can’t lie—those words stung. “But they moved in with my maternal grand-aunt. She’s been having health issues. And my mom loves it there. She practically grew up there so it’s a second home to her.”
You trail off as your phone rings, and you smile at the sight of the caller id. “Oh, I have to take this call, sorry, Hwa. It’s my partner for this project I’m doing.”
And just like that, you were out of your room and down the hall. Seonghwa watches you leave with a soft smile on his face. He missed you. And now he gets to see you again and be with you forever.
-
“How was school today?” When you get home from college, Seonghwa is lying on your couch. Or rather, floating above your couch because maintaining a physical form for that long is tiring. He’s the epitome of relaxed, although a little bored since he can’t leave the house for too long without you since he’s tied his spirit down.
“It was good,” you reply, setting your bookbag on the coffee table to take off your shoes. “A little boring today since all I had were an English class and a long Chem lab. How was watching YouTube?”
“Exhilarating,” Seonghwa teases, finally straightening up to float towards you and greeting you with a hug. “Snuck a little bit of Netflix in there too.”
You hum, moving into the kitchen with Seonghwa following close behind. “Sounds like a fun day. Sorry that you have to be inside a lot though…I’d take you to class but I might get distracted and look like a fool talking to you.”
Seonghwa laughs shortly, hands moving to wrap around your stomach as he peeks over your shoulder at the bowl of cold pudding you’re eating. “Is that all you’re going to eat?” is all he says in response.
“Mmh, yeah. I just came back to grab a snack but then I’ll be going to the library and will grab lunch somewhere.” You pause, turning your head to take a glance at the ghost leaning on your shoulder. “You can come along this time if you’d like? I can get a study room at the library and so we can chat or you could read.”
Seonghwa’s eyes widen. He can feel his heart lurch like it's been stabbed—it’s only now he realises how different his routine has become now that he’s died. He stays at home 90 percent of the time so he always forgets how much you have to accommodate for him to accompany you.
“I’d like to,” he mumbles out, and as if you can tell how he’s feeling, you lean into his touch as a slight comfort.
“Yeah! You’ll have to tell me all about the YouTube and the Netflix,” you joke, a smile on your lips that Seonghwa can see out of the corner of his eye. God, he’s glad he finally found you.
-
“Where were you?” Seonghwa asks when you come back as the sun is setting, a far cry from when you usually arrive at two in the afternoon. “I got worried.”
"Oh no, I'm so sorry Hwa!" You exclaim after a quick glance at your watch. "I totally forgot that there's no way to contact you and lost track of time. I had gotten a partner project assigned to me so we went to the library to start to plan it out. I'm sorry."
Seonghwa purses his lips but relaxes. "That's okay. I just thought you got kidnapped or hurt or something. It seems like much longer when you're just here by yourself."
You hum in understanding, offering him a small smile. "Yeah, I get that. How about we order dinner since I worried you? It'll be a treat. And we gotta figure something out about the communication."
Seonghwa sighs affectionately. "That's more like a treat for you since I technically don't need to eat, but hey, I can still taste it so I'll take it."
You roll your eyes, poking him in the side. "Don't think I didn't notice you stealing all of my pudding, Seonghwa. Don't try to play cool with me."
Seonghwa laughs, batting your hand away. "Hey, you eat too many of those anyway. I'm actually doing you a favour by keeping you from getting sick.”
You scoff. "I take great offense to that—I haven't gotten sick yet."
"Just wait." Seonghwa rolls his eyes. "And I'll laugh when that happens."
Instead of being a mature adult who will accept when you're wrong, you just start ignoring him, looking through the menus you have pinned up on a billboard. "What do you want to eat?"
"Dude, nice way to dodge that. And I really could care less. Pizza?"
"Only if we can get stuffed crust," you offer and Seonghwa laughs.
"As if I would eat it any other way."

Holding Back(Namor x Latina!OC)
Pairing: Namor/Maritza Stark
Rating: T for now but will go up to M in future chapters
Word Count: 10,027
Contains: Mentions of religion, superstitions, and spiritual cleansing
Summary: Maritza Stark had a strange encounter on the beach when she was seven during a family summer vacation in her mother’s hometown. The encounter became forgotten after her mother’s untimely death a few months later, her entire world spiraling out of control. As an adult she dismissed the encounter as a child’s overactive imagination. Years later when her father lands himself in a conflict with the king of an underwater kingdom, she starts to realize maybe she wasn’t as imaginative as she originally thought.
Author’s Note: The first fic I’ve ever posted on Tumblr🥳 This is a work in progress so there will be many future chapters. This is just the first of many. I loosely based it off the song ‘Holding Back’ by BANKS. I’ve been listening to her album Serpentina a lot while writing this. Really recommend listening to BANKS. I think she’s one of the most underrated artists. I will also be posting this fic on fanfiction.net and archive of our own. Sorry if the Spanish is bad in this chapter. I’m not entirely fluent and there’s also a spiritual cleansing mentioned in this chapter. I’ve never personally had one but I based it off a video of one I saw and the story my mom told me about the one she had when she was a little girl. Hope you enjoy the chapter!!!
Tumblr media
Chapter One
2004
Punta Allen, Quintana Roo
Mexico
“God, could it be any fucking hotter,” Tony Stark grumbled as he and his longtime girlfriend walked along the shore of the seaside Mexican town. The same town his girlfriend originally hailed from. Years before she made it all the way to the US and years before she met him at a UCLA college party of all places.
“Stop your whining,” Yesenia told him as she rolled her eyes, walking arm in arm with Tony as she watched the waves roll along the sandy beach. “I know you hate being away from the lab, but you promised you’d participate in the family vacation.”
“I know I promised that but that was before I was sweating my ass off in Mexico,” Tony complained, and Yesenia knew her boyfriend was a big baby.
“Just try…if not for me then for Maritza,” Yesenia said, gesturing towards their seven-year-old daughter. Tony followed her gaze and he swallowed hard when he noticed their daughter collecting seashells on the sandy beach only to deposit them in her beach pail. “She needs normal family things like this. She needs normalcy period.”
“You’re right,” Tony admitted even though he still found the heat and humidity unbearable. He would much rather be in the lab back home, but he couldn’t deny this was nice. Quality family time. Unlike what he experienced during his own childhood. Not even his mother could manage to pull Tony’s father from the lab and Tony promised himself this would be different. His daughter would never have a childhood like his.
“Daddy, look at this one,” Maritza said, running up to Tony excitedly and showing off the seashell she just found. The little girl was a replica of her mother. The same brown skin, same smile, same nose, same eyes, and even the same laugh. Although she did get her dark brunette hair color from him. Tony already knew he’d probably have to play the overprotective dad part when she got into those dreaded teenaged years.
Something he wasn’t looking forward to.
“Oh wow…another shell,” Tony said, trying to sound impressed and Maritza pouted.
“It’s a conch shell,” Maritza said as if he should’ve known that. Tony nodded, recognizing the name and shape when she informed him of that.
“Right. The one where you can hear the ocean through it,” Tony said, and Maritza giggled.
“Silly. You can’t hear the ocean through the shell,” Maritza said, placing the shell in Tony’s hand and he looked down questioningly at the shell. “Air’s trapped inside because of the shape. You hear the air’s vibrations.”
“Huh…I didn’t know that,” Tony said before Maritza simply giggled before running back down the beach to find more shells. Tony glanced at Yesenia who just smiled.
“See? There are things not even the great Tony Stark knows,” Yesenia joked as she grinned at him and Tony scoffed. “She’s like you by the way. She just knows things.”
“Great. It means she’ll probably be a smart ass like me too,” Tony said with a joking tone, but it was clear that he was worried about her. She was already like him. More advanced than most kids her age. She was already at a seventh-grade reading level at the age of seven. Tony knew how isolating it could be being a Stark and being intellectually superior to kids your own age. It was very lonely. Tony had hoped that she wouldn’t be like him. That she would be a normal kid.
However, it was becoming obvious that wasn’t the case. She was like him. A true Stark.
In more ways than one.
“Good thing she’s way cuter than you,” Yesenia teased him, and Tony just rolled his eyes as they continued along the shore. Not noticing the pair of eyes that followed them from the ocean as the small family went along their way.
“I’d say she’s more like you. Interested in all that under the sea stuff,” Tony retorted, and Yesenia giggled. The young couple were oblivious to the pair of eyes as it would seem.
Maritza looked up and squinted her eyes as she thought she saw something in the distance. She hoped it was a dolphin. Maritza dreamed of seeing a dolphin, but she blinked a second later and whatever it was disappeared. She noticed some driftwood floating nearby and figured that the sun must’ve played a trick on her eyes.
The small girl went back to seashell hunting without further thought.
“There’s an old legend passed down from parent to child over many generations, you know. I told it to your mother and my mother spoke of it to me,” Maritza’s grandmother Palmira told her as she tucked the small girl in for bedtime. A tradition that always happened whenever Maritza and her parents visited her grandmother. Her grandmother would always tell her stories. “A cautionary tale.”
“What legend?” Maritza questioned, her curiosity getting the better of her as it always did. It seemed like Maritza was a little too like her father in that way. Her grandmother smiled at her only grandchild.
“The one of K’uk’ulkan,” Maritza’s grandmother told her, and Maritza furrowed her eyebrows at the sound of the strange name. “Which is what the Mayans, our ancestors, called him and the Aztecs called him Quetzalcoatl. The winged feathered serpent. A god to our ancestors but something else to everyone that ever lived here. He possesses many more names. Some not as kind.”
“He’s a snake?” Maritza asked in distaste. She hated snakes. Something about the way they slithered around creeped her out. “A giant snake? A giant flying snake? Abuela, that’s my worst nightmare.”
“He’s more man than snake,” Maritza’s grandmother said with a knowing look in her eyes. As if she knew this information firsthand.
“Who? Kuku?” Maritza questioned, completely butchering the name. Her grandmother smiled in amusement but shook her head.
“K’uk’ulkan,” She whispered but raised a finger to her lips. “But never speak his name too loud or you’ll summon him.”
“Why? Is he bad?” She questioned.
“He’s worshipped as a god in many parts of Mexico but it’s only in the small villages near the ocean that know the truth of K’uk’ulkan and his fury with those who live in the surface world,” Her grandmother told her, and Maritza was hooked on her every word. Her grandmother’s stories were always so interesting and different from the ‘Goodnight Moon’ type books her dad would read her before bedtime. “K’uk’ulkan lives at the bottom of the ocean. In his own kingdom. Every so often he’ll come to the shore to claim the lives of those of us who live on land as a ploy for vengeance. He and his people sing a song, luring the surface people into the ocean where they sink to their deaths.”
Maritza watched her grandmother with wide eyes.
“He is said to seduce beautiful women, luring them to their deaths as well,” Palmira listed off before meeting her granddaughter’s eyes. “And he even comes from the ocean to claim the lives of misbehaving children. He takes them to the bottom of the ocean with him. Only never to be seen again.”
“Yeah, right,” Maritza said, laughing nervously. “You’re just saying that to scare me. It’s the same thing as Mami and Daddy telling me to behave, or Santa won’t bring me any presents.”
“Believe what you want, Mi Nieta,” Palmira said before continuing. “But the legend of K’uk’ulkan is well known around here. He is to be respected but never acknowledged and you never want him to ever acknowledge you. Because once he sets his sights on you then that’s it. You’re destined for a cursed death. Never to escape K’uk’ulkan’s wrath.”
Maritza gulped fearfully and despite her logic, she was terrified of the tale her grandmother just told her. Terrified to think there was some monster that lived in the ocean just outside her grandmother’s house that would lure her to the ocean and drown her, not caring if she was just a child. A sea monster that liked killing people simply because he could.
“Yeah, but that’s only here. Right, Abuela?” Maritza asked hesitantly. “He wouldn’t be in Malibu, right?”
“The ocean is a big place, Maritza,” Her grandmother answered vaguely, and Maritza felt her heart hammering in her chest.
“Mami, you’re not telling Maritza about K’uk’ulkan, are you?” Yesenia questioned in disbelief as she leaned against the doorway. Tony raised his eyebrows questioningly as he joined Yesenia.
“Cuckoo who?” Tony questioned and Yesenia rolled her eyes.
“Not Cuckoo. K’uk’ulkan,” Yesenia elaborated as she tried to explain her mother’s superstitions to her very rational and very white boyfriend. “He’s a Mayan deity and a cautionary tale around these parts. Something parents tell their kids, so their kids behave. Like La Llorona or El Cucuy.”
“Daddy, Abuela said that he’s this monster that lives in the ocean and he hates people on land, so he lures them to the ocean and drowns them. Even kids like me,” Maritza rambled on, and Yesenia gave her mother an annoyed look. Tony just looked amused. “That once he sets his sights on you then you’ll never be seen again.”
“Mami!” Yesenia said in anger. “I can’t believe you told Maritza that. She’s going to have nightmares now. She’s going to regress. We finally got her to sleep in her own bed.”
“Don’t worry, Ritzy,” Tony told his daughter nonchalantly. “This Cuckoo guy would take you to the ocean for two seconds before you talked his ear off so much that he ended up sending you back.”
Maritza didn’t look very comforted by her father’s words and Yesenia smacked his shoulder. She didn’t find it very amusing that her mother probably traumatized their daughter into never sleeping again. Especially not with the ocean right outside the house. Yesenia remembered the nightmares she had as a child after her mother told her the stories about K’uk’ulkan. She couldn’t believe her mother did the same thing to Maritza.
“Mami, we’re having a serious conversation about this tomorrow morning,” Yesenia said seriously to her mother as her grandmother left Maritza’s side to join the other two adults leaving the room. Tony paused as Yesenia and her mother exited the small guest room.
“Daddy, don’t close the door,” Maritza begged and Tony smiled softly before nodding.
“I’ll leave the light on too,” He promised, and she returned his smile, grateful for that. Being enveloped in darkness right now wasn’t really what she wanted.
“Night, kiddo,” Tony told his daughter. “Don’t give that Cuckoo guy another thought. It’s not possible for anything like that to live in the ocean. You’re a smart girl. You know that. The scariest thing down there is a shark, and they definitely can’t walk on land.”
Maritza nodded, comforted by her father’s words of logic.
“I know,” Maritza said softly, feeling a lot better. “Thank you, Daddy.”
“Don’t mention it,” Tony told her. “Sleep tight.”
With that, her father left the room and Maritza listened to the patter of his footsteps down the hall. She nestled deeply into her covers. The heat was long gone at this time of night and now she just felt the cool ocean breeze.
He was right.
K’uk’uklan wasn’t real.
“Maritza…”
Maritza turned around in the darkness, but she didn’t see anything.
“Maritza…” The voice said again. It was a whisper that sounded both soft and aggressive at the same time. It chilled Maritza right to the bone. “Maritza, come here.”
“Who is it?” Maritza called out in the darkness. She didn’t know where she was or where her parents were.
“Maritza…” It hissed and Maritza’s jaw dropped as the voice finally revealed itself. Maritza looked on in horror as an enormous snake slithered out of the darkness. The girl trembled in fear as the creature lurked closer.
It was the worst thing Maritza could ever imagine. Scarier than any nightmare she had before. The creature’s eyes glowed red, its scales were withered, its feathered wings were stained with what looked like blood, and its sharp fangs gleamed under what little light remained in the room. It’s very appearance stroke so much fear into Maritza’s heart that she remained frozen to the spot.
“W-what do you want?” She stuttered, trying not to scream. The creature smirked at her, venom dripping from its fangs. “K’uk’ulkan.”
“Silly child,” he whispered to her. “Don’t you know you’re not supposed to say my name.”
Maritza whimpered as he came closer.
“What do you want?” She whined, unable to contain herself. Maritza felt that she was being toyed with. He was toying with her. He chuckled.
“A meal,” he said softly, and Maritza’s eyes widened in horror as he opened his mouth, displaying all his sharp teeth. Maritza screamed as she tried to move…to do anything to get away from the terrifying creature but it was useless. Her feet didn’t want to move.
She was stuck.
“Mami! Daddy!” She screamed in a ploy to get help. The creature just seemed amused.
“It’s useless. They’ll never hear you from down here,” he told her smugly. It was only then that Maritza noticed where she was.
It was alarming she hadn’t noticed it before.
Maritza gasped in surprise at the ocean floor beneath her. Air bubbles escaped her as she struggled to move through the water. K’uk’ulkan started laughing, his eyes glowing an even brighter red.
The gigantic sea creature then reared its head back as if it were getting prepared to strike.
Maritza shielded her eyes, blocking her view of K’uk’ulkan. The sight was too terrifying for her eyes to even comprehend.
“I’ll make it quick.”
K’uk’ulkan lurched forward and Maritza screamed.
“Maritza!” Yesenia exclaimed as she raced into the room followed by Tony and her mother. The small girl was a crying mess. “Maritza! What’s wrong, Mija? What’s wrong?”
“He was going to eat me, Mami!” Maritza cried, sobbing as her mother gathered her in her arms. The poor girl was trembling. Tony rested his hand on her back, looking concerned about his daughter.
“Who was going to eat you?” Tony asked with a furrowed brow. Maritza hiccupped before answering.
“K’uk’ulkan,” Maritza whispered, and Yesenia immediately sent her mother a heated glare. “He said he was going to eat me, and you guys wouldn’t hear me if I called for help because we were at the bottom of the ocean.”
“See?” Yesenia said in an accusatory tone. “I told you not to tell her about those silly K’uk’ulkan stories. Now she has nightmares.”
“I’m getting really tired of hearing about this Cuckoo guy,” Tony grumbled and both Yesenia and her mother glared at her.
“K’uk’ulkan.” They both corrected in unison before Yesenia’s mother glanced at her.
“These stories are told here. You know that,” the older woman said sternly. “It’s tradition.”
“Well, it’s not a tradition I want for Maritza,” Yesenia said seriously. “She’s not from here. She’s American. It’s different there. These superstitious tall tales were normal to me but they’re not normal to her.”
“I told her about K’uk’ulkan because she walks too close to the sea,” Palmira warned, giving her a serious look. “It’s not good for children to walk that close to the sea.”
“Because she’ll drown?” Tony questioned, not understanding her meaning. He rarely did. Tony didn’t know his girlfriend’s mother that well, but he knew her well enough to know that she didn’t like him. She didn’t favor the fact that Tony still hadn’t married Yesenia even after they had Maritza. She also didn’t like the fact that Tony was an atheist and made that very clear to him on a daily basis. “Palmira, we’d never let Maritza go down by the water by herself. She doesn’t go anywhere by herself. You know that.”
“She’s drawn to the water. She feels it’s pull,” Palmira was quick to say. “It’s not good. Not for here. People around here that are drawn to the water disappear. Especially women.”
“What?” Tony questioned incredulously. “You’re not actually saying you believe in this water guy, right? We’re all grown-ups here. We don’t believe in sea monsters.”
“Tony’s right, Mami,” Yesenia said, fixing her mother with a look. “K’uk’ulkan isn’t real. He’s a myth.”
“He might not be real to you in California, but he remains real here,” Palmira said, not backing down in her belief of K’uk’ulkan. Yesenia just shook her head.
“Whatever. Let’s just enjoy the rest of our vacation here and quality family time while putting this behind us,” Yesenia said, wanting to move on from K’uk’ulkan. “If I hear another mention of K’uk’ulkan then we’re going home. I’m serious, Mami.”
Her mother said nothing. Just remained silent in the doorway of the small room while her daughter glared at her, and Maritza remained trembling in Yesenia’s arms. Tony looked worriedly between the mother and daughter.
“Maritza, why don’t you sleep with Daddy and I tonight?” Yesenia said sweetly, as she rubbed her daughter’s back soothingly. “Does that sound nice?”
“I guess,” Maritza said in a small voice. Yesenia gave her daughter a small smile as Tony immediately picked her up from the bed.
“God, kid, you’re getting heavier and heavier,” Tony told her as he began to carry her from the bed. That seemed to get a small giggle out of Maritza. A good sign.
Palmira just watched her daughter and granddaughter leave the room, an unreadable expression on her face. Yesenia didn’t hide the glare she gave her mother as she walked by.
Palmira knew that Yesenia forgot where she came from.
That much was obvious.
Because K’uk’ulkan was nothing to be scoffed at. Not in this small seaside town. He was real. Frighteningly real to the town’s residents and everyone lived in fear of him and in fear of making him angry. Every time a storm hit the small town; the townspeople were scared if it was K’uk’ulkan letting his fury be known.
Or perhaps a warning.
A warning that he would lure more towards the sea to never be seen again.
K’uk’ulkan was never mentioned again during the Almanza-Stark family vacation. Even though Maritza continued to keep thinking about that nightmare and her grandmother’s story. Her interest in K’uk’ulkan had morphed from fear to curiosity. She wanted to ask her grandmother more questions about K’uk’ulkan but didn’t want to risk getting her grandmother in trouble with her mom so kept her questions to herself.
Still…she remained curious as she always gazed over at the ocean during family outings on the beach.
Her grandmother mentioned she was drawn to the sea and seemed concerned that made her more vulnerable to K’uk’ulkan. That people drawn to the sea were more likely to be his victims. She was seven but she wasn’t stupid. She knew there must’ve been some legend or story that made that certain quality a sign of being at the mercy of someone like K’uk’ulkan.
The seven-year-old had become quite obsessed with K’uk’ulkan. It had changed from being scared of the mythological sea monster to wanting to find him. Like he was a unicorn or bigfoot or even the Loch Ness monster. Maritza was determined to catch a glimpse of K’uk’ulkan.
Instead of searching the beach for seashells, Maritza now searched the beach for clues that might lead her to K’uk’ulkan. She was determined to find evidence of the mythological creature’s existence. Especially after seeing how serious her grandmother had been about the story. Like her grandmother was so certain that he existed. It was almost like her grandmother herself was afraid of him.
Her parents lounged on beach towels, soaking up the sun but Maritza was obsessed with finding clues. She didn’t know what she was looking for exactly. If he really was a feathered serpent, then perhaps he shed his skin like snakes did. Well, Maritza was really just basing her knowledge off that Harry Potter movie but still…
Maritza found a dead jellyfish that had been washed up along the shore and she found a couple discarded beer cans that were littered by tourists more than likely but not snake skin. It’s not as though it would leave footprints if it was a snake either.
Maritza was growing frustrated in her hunt for K’uk’ulkan.
“Mija, what are you looking for?!” Yesenia called out and Maritza didn’t even look up from the water. She was standing ankle deep in the water as she started moving rocks and seashells around with a piece of driftwood she found along the shore.
“K’uk’ulkan!” Maritza said nonchalantly as she continued combing through the sand for anything that indicated that K’uk’ulkan had been there.
“Are you kidding me?” Yesenia hissed under her breath as she narrowed her eyes suspiciously at her daughter who was poking at the sand with a stick. “This again? I’m going to have another talk with mom about-“
“Relax,” Tony said as he stopped Yesenia from getting up from the ground. Probably stopping her from running off to her mother for another argument. “Just leave her be.”
“Leave her be? Anthony…our daughter is currently hunting a non-existent sea monster that gave her a nightmare she woke up crying from the other night,” Yesenia said, angry at the situation. “I need to talk to my mother about this.”
“Does Maritza look scared?” Tony questioned, trying to stop another argument between Yesenia and Palmira. “She’s fine. This is healthy. She’s not scared of the Cuckoo snake thing anymore. Now she wants to hunt him and publish her discovery of a new species in National Geographic. This is how she’s overcoming her fear. Totally normal.”
“I don’t know,” Yesenia said, sounding unsure. Tony nodded.
“This is very normal. She’s an imaginative kid,” Tony reassured her. “Just be grateful she’s not building a robot like I was when I was her age. She’s a normal kid. Perfectly grounded. I’m seventy percent positive she’ll be a well-adjusted young woman someday.”
“Seventy percent sure?” Yesenia questioned and Tony shrugged,
“Well, she is a Stark, after all,” Tony said as if this was very factual stuff. “There’s never a hundred percent guarantee that anything will ever be alright.”
“I guess you’re right but she’s not from here like I am,” Yesenia explained, still looking concerned. “I grew up here. I’m used to all the superstitions and stories. I mean, I don’t really believe in them but at the same time I do. I’ve just always known how to separate urban legend from reality. It’s different for Maritza and you don’t believe in any of that stuff. Not a single part and I’ve never told her the stories my mother told me. She’s a sensitive child. I knew they would traumatize her and especially because I haven’t raised her in that culture. These stories could be very real to her.”
“You’re worrying too much,” Tony told her, and Yesenia knew he was right. She was worrying too much. It was just that coming back home was making her remember all the things she grew up with. Not something she really wanted for her daughter. To be scared to death of a mythological man who haunted the sea. “This is normal kid stuff. Hunting imaginary monsters. It’s good for her get out and enjoy some fresh air. We can’t really afford to do the same thing back home with all the media frenzy. This is good.”
Yesenia relented.
She realized he had a point.
They didn’t have the luxury of going out very often back home. Tony had gained the media’s interest in his younger and much wilder days. Not to mention he dated his fair share of pretty California girls. There was much public interest in his personal life which followed him when he started dating Yesenia Almanza. A young marine biology major at UCLA.
The attention magnified after it was discovered Yesenia was pregnant with a third-generation Stark. Potential genius and future heiress to Stark Industries. Tony and Yesenia had hoped the attention would die down, but Maritza was seven and it didn’t seem like the media attention was dying down any time soon. It wasn’t often they could leave the house and do normal family things.
“You’re right. I’m being crazy,” Yesenia confessed, and Tony shook his head.
“You’re not crazy. You’re protective. There’s a difference,” Tony comforted, and Yesenia rested her head against his shoulder.
“Thank you, Anthony,” Yesenia said, and Tony smiled, always hating being called that by anyone else but he loved the way his name sounded on her lips. “I hope you know you’re going to have a nasty sunburn in a couple hours because you forgot to put on your sunscreen.”
“What? No way,” Tony denied. He didn’t really bother with sunscreen between the smell and the dork he felt like whenever he wore it. “I feel fine. The sun feels nice on my skin.”
“Anthony, you’re so white,” Yesenia said, giggling as she looked at him. “You’re definitely going to burn. I’m going to spend the entire night rubbing aloe vera all over you.”
“Don’t threaten me with a good time, Almanza,” Tony quipped, and Yesenia just rolled her eyes before giggling again. Tony leaned over and stole a kiss. Yesenia happily kissed him back, running her hand through his hair. Usually at this point Maritza would make some exclamation about how gross they were but the small girl was too occupied with looking for K’uk’ulkan.
“Let’s let the kid wear herself out looking for Coco Puff and then we’ll work on giving her a little brother or sister tonight,” Tony joked, and Yesenia laughed again before smacking his shoulder. “What? She’d be so happy. She keeps whining about getting a little sister.”
“You’re awful,” Yesenia said although the smile didn’t fade from her face. Tony loved her smile. The way it lit up her whole entire face. Her dark eyes glimmered with warmth and somehow pulled him in further into her atmosphere. Tony wasn’t complaining.
“You love it.”
And she really did.
Maritza waited until it was dark and everyone in the small seaside house was asleep.
She knew they were asleep. The sound of her parents’ laughter died down just before midnight and she could hear her father’s snores from all the way down the hallway to her room. Maritza fought hard to stay awake, knowing the only way she was going to find K’uk’ulkan was if she went along the beach under the cover of darkness.
K’uk’ulkan obviously wasn’t going to appear in broad daylight. He was going to come out in the dark. Everyone knew that sea monsters only came out at night.
Maritza gathered her things.
Her K’uk’ulkan hunting materials. Hunting materials which included her mother’s dissection kit, a pack of crayons, a magnifying glass, and a disposable camera. Technically she wasn’t allowed to touch her mother’s dissection kit but if she found K’uk’ulkan then maybe her mother wouldn’t care.
Everything was stuffed into her Finding Nemo backpack. Her heart was racing with excitement. Her first adventure by herself…well, first adventure doing anything. Her parents rarely let her out of the house back home. The people with cameras were way too intrusive or, at least, that’s what she always heard her mother say to her father.
But there were no cameras here.
Everything was quiet.
Maritza crept through the house, butterfly net in hand as she tried to remain as quiet as possible. The only sound that could be heard was the sound of the ocean outside the small house. There was a moment when Maritza was convinced that her father woke up, but she merely heard him shift in his sleep before she heard more snoring.
She snuck out the door and she was free at last.
Maritza half expected her grandmother to catch her. Her grandmother who was always very sneaky, but it didn’t happen. Her grandmother didn’t show up and Maritza was outside in the dark with only the moonlight shining down through the darkness.
The air was still warm but there was a cool ocean breeze through her hair. It felt nice. A lot nicer than the severe heat felt throughout the day. Maritza admired how beautiful the ocean looked at night.
So calm and quiet.
Much different than during the day.
Maritza focused. She had to focus. She came outside to find K’uk’ulkan and she was determined to find him. Maybe not capture him because Maritza was grossed out by snakes, but she was going to catch a glimpse of him. Maritza refused to go back to the house without finding at least one clue that K’uk’ulkan left behind.
“If I were K’uk’ulkan where would I be?” Maritza asked herself as she walked along the beach, gripping her butterfly net tightly in her hands.
Maritza wasn’t sure how long she was out there looking for K’uk’ulkan clues. Maybe an hour. She just knew she was growing bored and tired looking for K’uk’ulkan in the dark. It was starting to seem no different than looking for him in the daytime.
She was close to starting to call his name in the dark even though her grandmother warned her not to say his name too loudly. Very close to giving up and calling for him to see what happened when something strange occurred.
Something very strange.
Maritza was near some palm trees that lined the beach. She was a distance away from the waves calmly caressing the sandy shores. Not just because her parents warned her not to go near the ocean without them but also because a part of her was still scared K’uk’ulkan would sneak up behind her and drag her into the ocean like her grandmother warned.
The strange thing occurring happened to be an individual coming out of the water.
Not just coming out of the water like a swimmer coming back up for air either.
Maritza witnessed a man come out of the water like he’d just gotten back from a nice, brisk walk. No gasp for air or any sign of exhaustion from swimming. He walked out of the water with far more grace than she had ever witnessed in her short life. Maritza’s eyes widened as she quickly dove behind a large piece of driftwood on the beach.
But like most times, her curiosity got the better of her.
She couldn’t refrain from not spying on the mysterious man who had come from the ocean.
Maritza peeked over the top of the driftwood to catch a better look at the strange man. It was a bit difficult to see through the dark, but the moonlight illuminated him well enough. She watched him with interest. She had never seen a man who looked like him before. Well, that wasn’t true. If she didn’t know better, then she’d say he looked like any one of the men she’d seen around town. His skin color just as dark as her mother and grandmother’s skin color if not darker.
That wasn’t what made him different.
It was the way he dressed. The way he carried himself. The man wore a pair of shorts. She would’ve said they were swim trunks, but they were embellished at the waistline with what looked like a gold belt. His chest was bare except for an extensive amount of beautiful jewelry that hung around his neck, capturing Maritza’s eye. What was even more curious to her was the large piercing through his nose.
Cool.
Maritza watched in awe because she had never seen anyone like him. He looked to be around her father’s age but wasn’t anything like her father or any man she had ever seen before.
Almost as though he sensed her eyes on him, he turned in her direction and Maritza’s eyes widened before she quickly ducked down. Praying that she hadn’t been seen.
Maybe he hadn’t seen her.
Maybe she was quick enough that he hadn’t caught her spying on him.
“I know you’re there,” his voice said. His accent was unlike any accent Maritza heard. Nothing like her mother and grandmother’s accent which proved to her that he wasn’t a local. “Show yourself.”
Maritza felt fearful.
What if this man told on her to her parents? Maritza would be in so much trouble. Her parents would never let her go outside again.
“Come now,” he said gently and though she couldn’t pinpoint his accent, his voice was strangely calming. Maritza was lulled from her hiding spot, and she immediately got up from her hiding spot to confront the strange man.
The man seemed almost surprised to see her.
As if he were expecting someone else. He chuckled at the sight of her, and Maritza felt almost offended.
“Shouldn’t you be in bed asleep, little one?” He asked her and Maritza nervously shifted her weight from one foot to the other. “I cannot imagine your parents would be pleased to find you out here at this time of night.”
“They’re asleep. They don’t know I’m out here,” Maritza didn’t know what compelled her to say that. She couldn’t describe the hold his gaze seemed to have on her. It was almost as if she was unable to stop herself from saying everything.
“And just what are you doing out here?” He asked and Maritza could tell he was amused by her. The same way her father was amused by her childish antics. She didn’t know why but she didn’t like it. It made her feel like he thought she was a joke.
“I’m looking for K’uk’ulkan,” Maritza said confidently, and the man looked her up and down for a moment, eyeing the butterfly net in her hands before breaking out into laughter. He acted like Maritza just told the funniest joke he’d ever heard.
“And what do you intend to do when you find him? Catch him with that net?” The man questioned and Maritza frowned. She was seven but she could tell when she was being made fun of. Mostly because her dad liked teasing her a lot and she could tell this man was doing something similar.
“Well, I don’t know…I haven’t planned that far ahead. I just want to see if he’s real,” Maritza elaborated, and he raised an eyebrow.
“Why do you have to know if he’s real?” The man asked her, sincerely curious. Maritza shrugged.
“Just because,” she answered, and he snorted.
“Just because?” He pressed and Maritza nodded.
“People act like he’s real, but he sounds too silly to be real, so I have to know if he’s real or not. I want proof,” Maritza explained, and the man nodded, crossing his arms as he spoke to her.
“Why do you need proof? Can’t you just accept that he’s real and move on?” He questioned and Maritza looked at him like he was crazy.
“No,” she said as if that were a dumb suggestion. “I need evidence. Daddy always says that you need to back up your hypothesis with evidence or else it will never hold up.”
The man took a step closer to Maritza and the small girl narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
“What if I told you I was K’uk’ulkan,” he told her, and Maritza shook her head.
“You’re not K’uk’ulkan. K’uk’ulkan is a magical flying snake,” Maritza said, sounding very sure of herself. “You’re a man.”
“You sound disappointed,” he observed, and Maritza took a step back. “I assure you that I’m not a snake.”
“All the books say that K’uk’ulkan is a serpent,” Maritza informed him, and he chuckled.
“Books can be wrong,” he retorted, and Maritza frowned because she didn’t understand that. To her, written words meant truth. If something was written on paper, then it must be true.
Right?
She never thought a book could be wrong.
“I don’t believe you’re K’uk’ulkan,” Maritza said stubbornly. She felt as if the man was playing a trick on her.
“What can I do to make you believe I’m K’uk’ulkan?” He asked calmly but the amusement still twinkled in his eyes. Maritza was stumped. It was only then she realized how little she knew of K’uk’ulkan. She was uncertain of any special traits other than the fact he was some sort of water serpent that flew.
“I don’t know,” Maritza confessed. He just smiled. He knelt down on one knee in front of her so he would match her height. Not that he was very tall. Maritza thought he was shorter than her father but still much taller than herself.
“Perhaps K’uk’ulkan has ears like these,” he said, and Maritza took a glimpse at his distinctly pointed ears. Ones that she hadn’t noticed before through the darkness. Elvish ears. She looked on in wonder. “And perhaps he has wings like these.”
He glanced down at the ground and Maritza followed his gaze, her eyes widening as she noticed the small fluttering wings seemingly attached to his ankles. Something she had never seen on a person before. Maritza was vaguely aware of something called birth defects, but she didn’t think these could be described as a birth defect. They were way too cool. Both his wings and ears.
“Cool,” Maritza said in awe. The look of amusement didn’t fade off his face. “Can you really fly with those wings? Do they work if they’re wet? Have you always had them? Were you born with them? How do your ears work? Do you hear better than most people?”
“You ask a lot of questions, little one,” he told her and Maritza gave him an impatient look. He didn’t answer a single one of her questions.
“Are you going to eat me?” She questioned bluntly and she was so blunt that it surprised the man…or K’uk’ulkan as Maritza was quickly discovering.
“What?” He questioned in surprise.
“My abuela told me that K’uk’ulkan eats children who misbehave,” she told him, and he chuckled. There was a look on his face that indicated that he knew something Maritza didn’t which bothered the small girl. She didn’t like not knowing things.
“And have you been misbehaving?” He asked her nonchalantly. Maritza looked slightly guilty.
“I snuck out of the house to look for you. I’m not allowed to go places by myself,” Maritza said honestly, and she hesitantly took a step back. He didn’t look like the type to eat children. K’uk’ulkan wasn’t scary looking at all. However, she knew that looks could also be deceiving and maybe he really did eat kids. K’uk’ulkan nodded.
“Well, since you’re being honest, I suppose I can forgive your misbehavior just this once,” K’uk’ulkan said, humoring the small child. “I also just had dinner so I’m not particularly hungry at this moment in time.”
“Thank you,” she said quietly, relieved that she wasn’t going to be eaten. K’uk’ulkan then gave her a serious look.
“Although you should not wander away from your parents,” he told her sincerely. “Not at this time of night. It’s not safe for someone your age to be wandering around the dark. You would do well to listen to your parents’ wishes.”
“Fine,” Maritza said although she didn’t seem happy about his advice. It’s not like she was going to argue with him. He was sparing her life by not eating her. She’d rather not push her luck. “Do you really live underwater?”
“The questions never end, do they?” He retorted, still amused by her nosiness.
Maritza was about to ask him another question when they were interrupted by the familiar voices of both her mother and father. She realized she must’ve been gone for a while. Her father was a restless sleeper and more than likely discovered her absence when he woke up as he did numerous times during the night.
“Maritza!” She heard her mother call out. “Maritza, where are you?”
Maritza was about to call out to her mother that she was fine. That she found K’uk’ulkan and all was right in the world when something stopped her before she could.
“Diablo!” Palmira Almanza exclaimed in horror. Maritza turned to see her grandmother standing a short distance away near the palm tree. Maritza looked at her grandmother in confusion, not understanding the terror on her face. “Diablo!”
“Abuela, I did it. I found K’uk’ulkan,” Maritza said excitedly as she tried to introduce her grandmother to her new friend. However, Maritza’s so-called new friend seemed unfazed by her grandmother’s name calling. He stared back at the elderly woman coldly before standing up from the ground. “He’s not a snake at all. He’s a person. See?”
“Aléjate de ella! No la toques!” Palmira started saying hysterically in Spanish. Maritza wasn’t well versed in her mother’s native language, so she didn’t quite understand what her grandmother was saying. Only that she was scared. “Tu maldad no puede tocar a alguien con un alma pura, Namor. No puedes quitarle su alma. Aléjate, Namor!”
“Mami! Tony went looking behind the house,” Yesenia called as she joined the three of them on the beach. “Have you found-“
Yesenia stopped midsentence as she saw the man standing in front of her daughter locked into a staring contest with her mother. Only it wasn’t just a man. Under the moonlight, Yesenia could make out his pointed ears and the wings attached to his ankles. The jewelry he wore around his neck also indicated to Yesenia just who he was.
She heard stories growing up. Especially in a town as small as the one she’d grown up in. In fact, Yesenia’s father, a now deceased fisherman, had once claimed to have seen K’uk’ulkan during a fishing trip. Yesenia had always dismissed her father’s story as another drunk tale of his but maybe her father wasn’t just some drunk telling tall tales.
Because K’uk’ulkan looked exactly as how her father described.
Exactly how many people around town had described him.
The few that had managed to capture glimpses of him over the years.
Yesenia was frozen to the spot as she stared at the being she previously thought was just an urban legend. She started feeling fear wash over her. All her mother’s stories coming to mind and just how close her daughter now stood to the man. Yesenia managed to gather her bearings enough to try to get her daughter away from him.
“Maritza!” Yesenia said, her eyes fearful. “Maritza, get over here. Now!”
“But Mami…I found K’uk’ulkan,” Maritza started to say, and Yesenia was growing more terrified by the second. Terrified that K’uk’ulkan would take her daughter into the ocean with him and she would never see her again…or Namor as some liked to call him.
“Maritza, get over here now!” Yesenia snapped and K’uk’ulkan broke his staring contest with Palmira to gaze down at Maritza. His gaze softened as he looked at her, reminded of the small children in his own kingdom. Children who were much too curious for their own good.
“I would go to your mother, my child,” he told her softly. Maritza nodded slowly.
“Okay,” she said, sounding disappointed. She still had more questions for him, after all. “Bye, K’uk’ulkan.”
“Goodbye,” he told her. Palmira continued to glare him down as Maritza returned to her mother’s side. Yesenia quickly grabbed on to her daughter and held tightly on to her as though she were afraid K’uk’ulkan would come back over and steal her.
“Mantente alejado!” Palmira hissed at him. “Mantente alejado, Namor! No te acerques a la chica! Malvado! Malvado!”
Yesenia continued to stare wide eyed at him, nearly trembling in her place. It was the equivalent of finding out the bogeyman was real. For so long, he was a thing of stories that her mother used to tell her but now he was real.
K’uk’ulkan acted as though Maritza’s grandmother wasn’t screaming at him. It was the strangest thing. He ignored her as he simply headed back to the water. Maritza watched curiously as he waded back into the water, her mother clutching her to her side tightly.
He was waist deep before he turned to the three generations of Almanza women. K’uk’ulkan locked eyes with Yesenia. Maritza heard her mother gasp.
“You should keep a better eye on your daughter…her father being who he is. A lot of people would want to hurt her,” K’uk’ulkan told Yesenia in a grave tone. “I don’t wish to see Tony Stark here again. He’s a risk. Your mother will tell you what happens when there’s a risk to my people.”
With that, K’uk’ulkan turned his back to the three of them wading further into the water until he was fully submerged. Maritza was disappointed when he disappeared from sight. There was so much more she wanted to ask him.
Yesenia and Palmira remained frozen to the spot. Neither of them moving as they stared at the quiet and calm waves flow back and forth along the beach.
“Why were you mad at K’uk’ulkan, Abuela? He was really nice,” Maritza questioned, breaking the silence. That seemed to snap her mother out of her state of shock. Yesenia immediately glared at her daughter.
“Maritza, what have I told you about talking to strangers?!” Her mother snapped and Maritza’s eyes widened in fear. She realized she was more than likely in trouble. Her mother was furious. Maritza didn’t think she had ever seen her mother look so furious. “And leaving the house by yourself? What if something happened to you…well, something did happen.”
“I just wanted to find K’uk’ulkan,” Maritza said quietly. “And I did find him. I don’t know why you and Abuela were being so rude to him. He was nice to me.”
“K’uk’ulkan is not nice,” Her mother told her sternly. “He’s evil. You heard the stories your grandmother told you.”
“You said those weren’t true,” Maritza argued, and her mother shook her head.
“Well, they are true. K’uk’ulkan hates people who live on land and takes them with him to the bottom of the ocean any chance he can get,” Yesenia told her daughter, trying to get her point across. “He’s evil, Maritza. To see him is a curse.”
“Daddy said there’s no such thing as good and evil,” Maritza retorted, and Yesenia huffed.
“Evil exists here and it exists in that water,” Yesenia said, and Maritza was confused. She didn’t know why her mother and grandmother seemed so terrified of K’uk’ulkan. He didn’t do anything to her. He didn’t eat her, attack her, or lure her into the ocean with him. She had the feeling K’uk’ulkan had been teasing her, but he hadn’t seemed evil to her…just normal. Aside from his ears and wings.
“Daddy’s not going to believe I actually found K’uk’ulkan,” Maritza said, oblivious to her mother and grandmother’s fear of the man that just disappeared into the water. “I can’t wait to tell him.”
“No!” Palmira said sharply, breaking out of her stunned stage. “You must not tell your father.”
“Abuela’s right,” Yesenia said before locking eyes with her daughter. The seriousness in her gaze was enough to capture Maritza’s attention. “You can’t tell your dad.”
“Why not?” Maritza questioned and Yesenia swallowed hard. She could see the fear in her mother’s eyes, and she wasn’t sure how to feel about seeing her mother so scared.
“He wouldn’t understand,” Yesenia said softly. “K’uk’ulkan doesn’t like people talking about him, Maritza. It’s why people from this town don’t speak of him outside of it.”
“But he’s amazing. People should know-“ Maritza started to say but her mother stopped her. The look in her eyes made Maritza freeze. Her mother looked so scared. It unnerved the small girl.
“Promise me that you won’t speak of this ever again,” Yesenia pleaded with her. “Not to your father and not to anyone back home. This is serious, Maritza. No one must know. You don’t know how dangerous it was for us to see him. It’s not good, Maritza. It’s bad. Very bad.”
“Mami, I-“ Maritza tried to interject but her mother wasn’t having it.
“Promise me,” Yesenia said, eyes filled with tears and her mother was right. Maritza didn’t understand her mother’s fear of the man she just met. “He’s not a good man. He’s not even a man.”
“Evil,” Palmira added, caressing her cross pendant. She looked equally as terrified as Maritza’s mother. “Evil. We’re all cursed.”
“Mami…” Yesenia hissed, glaring at her mother before returning her gaze to Maritza. “Maritza, please promise to not speak of this again. For me.”
Normally Maritza would refuse. Her mother often said she inherited her father’s stubborn streak. Yet the look in her mother’s eyes made Maritza feel scared. It was terrifying to see your parent terrified. Someone Maritza had always viewed as a protector and above things like fear.
Maritza swallowed hard.
“Yes,” Maritza said quietly, and her mother raised her eyebrows.
“Yes, what?” She pressed and Maritza sighed before continuing.
“Yes, I won’t speak of K’uk’ulkan ever again. Not even to daddy and not to anyone back home,” Maritza promised, and Yesenia was satisfied with her answer, leaning forward and wrapping her arms around her daughter. She was just happy that Maritza was safe and away from danger. Yesenia could not describe how terrifying it was to see her daughter standing so close to a creature she had heard terrifying stories about.
“Don’t ever do that to me again, okay?” Yesenia whispered as she held her daughter tightly. She didn’t know what she would’ve done if K’uk’ulkan had taken Maritza with him into the ocean. There were stories of that happening before. Yesenia never really believed in K’uk’ulkan. Not since she was a little girl, but he became real the second she saw Maritza standing so close to him.
He was no longer a thing of tall tales and legends.
He was real.
“You’re going to be grounded for a very long time,” Tony told his daughter as they packed their things the next day. Yesenia demanded that they leave at once. She was spooked after their encounter with K’uk’ulkan…or Namor as others called him. Tony didn’t know why she wanted to leave so suddenly but figured she must’ve gotten into another argument with her mother. It was no secret that the mother and daughter duo didn’t get along very well.
“That means no video games, no Legos, no TV, and no ice cream,” Tony lectured her which was out of character for him. Usually, it was Yesenia who was the disciplinarian but Yesenia had been strangely silent ever since the sight before after returning to the house with her mother and Maritza.
“No ice cream?” Maritza whined, not liking the sound of that. Tony nodded.
“Yes, well you should’ve thought of that before you went out alone last night looking for the chicken man,” Tony told her sternly and Maritza grew quiet again at the mention of K’uk’ulkan. She normally would’ve corrected him about the name, but her mother had scared her into never mentioning the pointy eared man she saw the night before. Her mother paused in packing the clothes at the mention of K’uk’ulkan. Or Namor as her mother and grandmother insisted on calling him now during the hushed whispers, she heard on the way back to the house from the beach.
“When’s the flight?” Yesenia asked quietly and Tony turned his gaze away from his daughter to look at his girlfriend.
“Eleven…” Tony told her, not knowing why she was acting off. He couldn’t really explain it, but she was unusually quiet and not her bubbly self. “But the plane leaves anytime we want. We could leave sooner if you want.”
“Okay. We’ll leave sooner then,” Yesenia said decidedly before leaving the room to go retrieve their items from the bathroom. Tony stared after her for a second before shrugging it off and returning his attention to Maritza.
“Don’t ever do that again,” Tony told her seriously. Her father was not a serious man, but she could tell he was serious this time. He was usually quite humorous. Amused more often than not but it was clear she had scared him. “You don’t know the area well and there’s dangerous people out there. Not to mention the fact that you could’ve drowned. You’re not the strongest swimmer, Ritzy.”
“I know, Daddy,” Maritza said quietly, looking quite ashamed of herself. She was ashamed because she went looking for K’uk’ulkan and now her mother was so spooked that they were leaving Mexico sooner rather than later. Maritza liked it here. It was quiet, sunny, and her father didn’t have a lab to lock himself away in. It was so much different than home. “I’m sorry I left. I won’t do it again.”
“Good,” he told her as he zipped up his suitcase. “You really terrified your mom. I’ve never seen her like this before. Now go grab your stuff from the guest room. Your mom really wants to leave soon.”
“Okay,” she said obediently before trotting off to her room to do as her father instructed.
Maritza passed by the bathroom as she was leaving. She noticed her mother hunched over the sink, eyes squeezed closed and fingers gripping a rosary tightly in her hand. Vague whispers came from her mother’s mouth. Maritza recognized enough Spanish to know her mother was saying some sort of prayer.
It spooked Maritza.
Maritza had never seen her mother like that before. She never really thought of her mother as religious, and her father definitely wasn’t religious at all. Maritza knew her grandmother was but never her mother.
Maritza quickly moved past the bathroom and headed to the guest room. The sight of her mother lost in prayer somehow more terrifying than the encounter the night before.
She didn’t understand it.
Why her mother and grandmother were so scared. Yes, K’uk’ulkan was different but there was nothing scary about him. No fangs, claws, or horns. He was just different and what was so scary about that? Maritza wasn’t even sure if he really ate children like the legends said. Not that she knew what someone who ate children looked like, but it definitely wasn’t K’uk’ulkan.
They acted like he was evil…but he didn’t seem evil.
He seemed normal.
“Maritza,” Maritza’s grandmother said as she walked into the guest room, breaking Maritza out of her thoughts. Palmira closed the door behind herself quietly. Maritza glanced up at her. “I need to give you something before you leave.”
“What is it, Abuela?” Maritza asked curiously as her grandmother sat next to her on the bed. Her grandmother grabbed her hand and placed something cold and metallic in it. Maritza glanced down.
“This was my grandmother’s,” Palmira said, and it was a silver cross pendant with a blue gem in the center. “She gave it to me when I was your age and now, I’m giving it to you.”
“It’s so pretty. Especially this,” Maritza said, admiring the blue gem in the middle.
“It’s aquamarine,” Her grandmother informed her. “There used to be an old legend that said aquamarine was taken from the treasure of mermaids to protect sailors from the sea. It’s also said to protect the wearer from evil spirits and demons.”
Maritza knew this was about K’uk’ulkan. She wanted to tell her grandmother that he wasn’t evil, and everything was fine, but she knew her grandmother and mother didn’t believe that.
“My grandmother grew up in a different time in this small town,” Her grandmother explained, a faraway look in her eyes. “A time when the men of this town started hunting the creature from the sea. The one who made boats vanish. The creature they called Namor. There were those that thought of him as a god…K’uk’ulkan but my grandmother only knew him as the devil. A lot of those men disappeared as a result. Including my great-grandfather.”
Palmira swallowed hard before locking eyes with her granddaughter. Maritza was so young and innocent that she couldn’t understand the gravity of what occurred the night before.
“Promise me that you will wear this necklace and never take it off,” Palmira told her seriously. “I fear that you’re cursed now that you’ve come face to face with the devil. The necklace may be your only protection from him.”
“But-“ Maritza started to say but her grandmother cut her off with a stern look.
“Promise me, Maritza,” Her grandmother demanded, and Maritza sighed before relenting. She nodded and her grandmother took the necklace from her hand, immediately putting it on her. Maritza obeyed her grandmother without another word. “Never take it off. There are not many that have seen the devil of the sea and lived. Your ancestors didn’t.”
“I promise I won’t take it off,” Maritza said honestly and her grandmother seemed satisfied with that. She glanced down at the necklace, examining the pendant. It was beautiful but Maritza was left even more confused about why it was needed.
Some sort of protection against someone her grandmother was convinced was the devil.
Was K’uk’ulkan really the devil?
Maritza felt like a person would know if they came face to face with the devil, but she honestly didn’t know. She pictured something red with horns and a tail to be the devil. Something cartoonish and terrifying but that wasn’t K’uk’ulkan. He didn’t look like how she pictured the devil to look like.
If anything, she was more confused than before. Maritza had come face to face with something her mother and grandmother were convinced was evil. She just wasn’t sure.
But her mother was.
A couple days after they returned to California, and Maritza’s father was back in the lab, her mother drove her to an old building almost two hours away. Her mother told her it was called a Botánica. Some sort of store that was different than any store that Maritza had ever seen before. Filled with candles, herbs, and statues of saints. It was some sort of cross between Diagon Alley and the Vatican.
Her mother didn’t explain much to her but the older woman at the front of the store led them to the back to a room that was dark except for an abundance of lit candles and incense. It had been very terrifying, and the woman instructed Maritza to shut her eyes then proceeded to say what sounded like a prayer in Spanish as she rubbed water into Maritza’s skin while Maritza’s mother watched quietly, clutching her rosary tightly in her hand. Water that was mixed with herbs as Maritza’s skin had a very odd scent afterwards. A scent that would be forever etched into Maritza’s mind.
It was a spiritual cleansing which Maritza found out years later as she described the memory to a friend of hers who’s parents were from Honduras.
The cleansing went on for a short while, but it might’ve as well have been years. Maritza remembered being terrified as the woman spoke in hurried Spanish and harshly rubbed the herbal water into her skin before running some sort of broom over her body. It ended with one last prayer and with seven-year-old Maritza with her tear-stained cheeks as her mother led her out of Botánica.
Her mother didn’t say anything on the drive back.
They both sat in silence in the car for the long car ride home.
With the cleansing, the topic of K’uk’ulkan was put to rest and never to be mentioned or referred to again. With time, Maritza would rationalize the encounter with the pointy eared man from the sea with wings on his ankles as not real. Just the exaggerative imagination of an only child which Maritza was.
The encounter became forgotten, anyways.
A few months after the summer spent in her mother’s native country, her mother died. An unexpected, tragic death that sent the small Stark family reeling and left Maritza without a mother. The time spent in Mexico became only a highlight for the summer spent as a family having fun before everything went to shit and the Starks’ entire world was turned upside down.
The necklace and cleansing had been intended to put K’uk’ulkan to rest. Yesenia’s death buried the matter entirely. Yet some things had a way of coming back to the surface.
Even if they were seemingly forgotten.

The phone ringing startled me awake as I sat up straight in the bed. Looking at the clock, I tried to count three hours backward from the time shown, slightly struggling before jumping to my feet and rushing to the phone, answering with a groggy and breathless, “Hello?”
“Can I read this to you?”
I sighed at the sound of El’s voice before answering, “Of course, sweetie.”
She always read me her letters that she wrote to Mike, asking for my advice on whether or not it sounded good enough. “Okay. Here it goes. ‘Dear Mike, today is day 185. Feels more like 10 years. Joyce says time is funny like that. Emotions can make it speed up or slow down. We are all time travelers if you think about it. For example, this week is going very fast. I think because I am so busy. I have to make something called a visual aid. I hope Mrs. Gracey will give me an A. Some exciting news; Joyce got an amazing new job. She gets to work at home. She says she loves the freedom. Will is painting a lot, but he-he won’t show me what he’s working on. M-maybe it is for a girl. I think there is someone he likes. Because he has been acting… weird. Jonathan is acting weird, also. I think he is just nervous about college. He is still waiting for his big letter. I hope he and Nancy get to go together. But I don’t know how he’ll ever get to college because his car is still broken down. His funny friend Argyle has been taking us to school. His hair is longer than mine. And he and Jonthan like to smoke smelly plants together. Jonathan says the plants are super safe because they come from the Earth, but to not tell Joyce. Me? I’m twice as happy now. You were right. It just takes time. I think I have finally adapted. At first, I missed all the spring flowers, but now I find it pretty here, too. I even like school now. I am still best at math, but my grammar is good now also. Thanks in part to Olivia back home. It helps that everyone is so nice here. I have made lots of friends. Even so, I am ready for Spring Break, mostly because I get to see you. I am so excited to see you, it is hard to breathe. Are you excited, too? I think you will love it here like me. I think we will have the best Spring Break ever. I hope my spelling was better this time. Miss you. Love, El.’”
She breathed deep on her end of the phone, silently asking me what I thought. Taking a drag from my cigarette, which I rarely ever do, I nodded my head before saying, “It’s good! But the part about friends? I’m not sure that should be in there.” El’s kept her word on telling me every detail when she calls me. This bitch Angela bullies her to no end, and it pisses me off to the point where I want to get in my car and drive to California to beat the shit out of this girl… but I can’t since she’s a minor and I’m 19 years old. “Maybe just tell him the truth?” I took another drag, holding it for a moment as I said, “The truth–” I blew the smoke from my lungs. “Is a lot better than having to cover up your lies in front of him when he’s there in a couple days.”
“Livvie! Are you smoking again?” Mom hollered.
“Shit,” I whispered, dabbing my cigarette.
“Steve will be here soon!”
Holding the mouthpiece of the phone, I hollered back, “Okay!” Sighing and shaking my head, I removed my hand, saying into the mouthpiece. “Listen, get ready for school, do the finishing touches for your visual aid that I know you’re gonna kick ass on, and have a good day at school, okay? I’m sorry this phone call is short.”
“It’s okay,” El said. “Can I call you tonight?”
“I’ll be at Steve’s, but sure,” I smiled. “You can call.”
“Okay. Argyle is here. I finished my visual aid before I called you.”
“Okay, sweetie. Have a good day at school.” “I will. Bye, Olivia.”
“Bye, El.” I hung up the phone, yawning after I did so. Going into the kitchen, I made myself a cup of coffee, adding my sugar and cream into it before taking a sip and walking back into my room.
No, Steve’s parents didn’t come home last night. Dustin needed help with something for school, so I told him I’d come for the night to help him. My plan was to go back to Steve’s, but I ended up falling asleep on Dustin’s bed, him waking me up to kick me out of his room. As I entered my own room, my phone was ringing, so I walked to it, picking up the receiver, answering with, “Can’t I just enjoy a cup of coffee this morning?”
“Good morning to you, too,” Steve said.
Sighing, I said, “Oh. Morning, baby.”
“Hey, listen. I’m gonna leave here in a few minutes to come get you and then pick up Robin, okay? So, be ready this time.”
I chuckled. Last time he had to come get me from my house I wasn’t ready for work. He and I had had… a night and I was super tired the next day, so I didn’t wake up with my alarm. We were late for work and Robin was late to school that day.
“Okay, I’ll be ready.”
“Promise?”
“Promise! I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
I hung up the phone, taking another sip of my coffee while looking at my closet door. I set my mug down, walking towards the door when I heard a knock on my bedroom door. “What?”
“Liv, I need you to stall Mom,” Dustin said.
“And why, pray tell, do I need to do that?” I asked, turning to look at him with my arms crossed.
“I’m talking to Suzie and I need you to not tell her what’s going on behind my door.”
Scrunching my face in disgust, I said, “Dustin, I don’t need to hear you two have radio sex.”
“We’re not! It’s something about school,” he exclaimed.
Sighing, I said, “Fine. Whatever. But you owe me.”
“Thank you!” he said, running back across the hall to his room, sliding his door closed.
I turned back to my closet, finally able to go into it to pick my outfit for the day; a graphic tee, comfortable but tight-fitted jeans and my Converse. I’ve been working with Steve and Robin at Family Video since October and I have to say I quite enjoy it. Not the whoring out my boyfriend part, but everything else about the job, aside from Keith, is awesome!
Once I was dressed, I heard talking on Dustin’s Cerebro, that he somehow installed in the house, so I poked my head in to see what was going on.
“That’s a negative, Dusty-bun,” Suzie said.
“Son of a bitch,” Dustin said, pressing a button on his radio. “Try tigers86.”
“Tigers86, copy that.”
“What the fuck are you doing?” I asked, walking into his room, sliding his door to a crack.
“Liv, not now,” Dustin said.
I sighed, “Alright. Oh! I can’t pick you up tonight. Steve and I are going to the game and then I’m going back to his house.”
“Fine, whatever,” he said, going back to his radio.
“Jiminy Crickets, Dusty,” Suzie said. “I’m in.”
“Holy shit,” he said.
“Wait, is she… is she hacking into the school system?” I asked.
Dustin and I jumped at the sound of hearing pounding on his door, Mom’s voice ringing on the other side, “Dusty, what’s going on in there? You’re gonna be late.”
Mom went to open the door just as Dustin shouted, “Don’t come in! I’m naked!”
She shut the door before saying, “Oh, Livvie! Steve’s here!”
I said, “Shit!” at the same time Dustin said into his radio’s mouthpiece, “Running out of time here!”
I walked out of his room as I heard Suzie tell him to hold on. Walking past Mom in the hallway, she told me to grab a slice of toast on my way out, which I told her I would, grabbing it and a banana before rushing out of the house, hearing Steve honk his horn. “Alright, Harrington! I’m coming!”
Opening the passenger side door, I tossed the banana at him, my piece of toast hanging between my teeth. As I buckled my seatbelt, he backed up out of our driveway and started towards Robin’s house before he sighed out and said, “Good morning, Henderson.” “Harrington,” I said, muffled through a bite of toast. I shook my head while taking the toast from between my teeth, saying, “Ew. No.”
He chuckled, handing the banana back to me. “You’re lucky I let you eat in my car.”
“At least I brush the crumbs off my legs when I get out of the car.” I finished my toast by the time we got to Robin’s house. Getting out of the car, I brushed the crumbs off my jeans, turning to go back in the passenger seat when Robin called out, “I need the front, Henderson!”
When I turned to face her, she shoved her shako into my hands, the yellow and white plume sticking out of the top. Yes, I know marching band lingo, shut up.
As we started driving, Steve was telling her about our date we had the other day when we had the day off. “And then we went to Enzo’s and had an amazing dinner–”
Leaning between the seats, I interrupted, “I literally thought he was going to propose, it was so freaking romantic.”
“And then we went back home and watched a movie–”
“Cuddling on the couch before I fell asleep to the movie.”
“What, no sex?” Robin asked.
Chuckling, I said, “No. Not that night. The next morning, however…”
“Gross.”
“You asked!” I exclaimed.
“Liv, I’m not fully awake yet. It is 7:00 in the morning, we have this stupid pep rally, and I woke up looking like a total corpse.” She pulled her face back after fluffing her hair a little bit.
“Oh, you’re worried about a basketball pep rally?” Steve asked. “You expect me to believe that?”
“Newsflash, Steve, you were in the pep rallies, remember?” I said, poking his cheek.
“Yeah? So?” Robin said.
“We all know what this is about,” I said, looking at her profile. “He’s not buying any bullshit. This is about Vickie.” I smiled at her as she turned her head to look at me. “Absolutely not.”
“Yes, it is, and you know what else I think?” Steve said.
“I don’t care–”
“I think you gotta stop pretending to be someone else when you’re around her.”
“You just gotta be yourself, love,” I said.
“You’re both quoting me to me, you do realize that right?” Robin said.
“Well, maybe you need to listen to yourself,” Steve said. “Ever think about that, smartypants? I mean, I listened. Look at me. Boom. Back in business.”
Looking at him, I deadpanned, “You’ve been in business, Steve. For over a year!”
“It’s not the same thing,” Robin said. “And Liv’s right.”
“Plus, when you asked out girls, they all said no,” I said. “Big deal. Nothing happened, other than your ego getting bruised–”
“I ask out the wrong girl, and bam, I’m a town pariah,” Robin added.
“Yeah, I’d buy that, except Vickie is definitely not the wrong girl,” Steve said.
“We just don’t know that, do we?”
“She returned Fast Times paused at 53 minutes, 5 seconds. Do you know who pauses Fast Times at 53 minutes, 5 seconds?”
Silence.
“Oh, my god,” I breathed. “People who like boobies, Robin!”
“Ew, don’t say boobies!” she said.
“I like boobies, Steve definitely likes boobies, you like boobies! Vickie definitely likes boobies,” I said.
“Wait, you like boobs?” they both asked.
“We’re not talking about me.”
We got to the high school, Robin and I getting out before I handed her her shako hat for the pep rally. We hugged before she ran off with her friends, chatting and walking them as she met up with them.
“Were we like this?” I asked, leaning over a little bit.
“Yup,” Steve said.
I looked at him, our eyes meeting. I smiled as he leaned in closer, our lips meeting for a second before I heard kids through the opened windows saying, “Get a room, Harrington!”
We pulled apart as I groaned, resting my forehead on his shoulder. “Get me off this campus before I beat the shit out of these sophomores.”
He chuckled, driving off to our day job that helps with the bills… metaphorically speaking.

I was standing with Steve on our side of the counter when the phone rang, and because I was standing by the phone, I turned around and picked it up, answering it with “Family Video, this is Olivia speaking. How can I help you today?”
“Liv, I need you tonight for Hellfire.”
Chuckling, I said, “No way, Dustin. Not tonight.”
“What?! Come on!”
“I don’t even know how to play! Plus, I’ve got a date with Steve tonight.” I turned my head over my shoulder, watching Steve help out a female customer.
“Just move your date this one time! Come on.”
“What, to hang out with you and Eddie? I’ll pass this time.”
“What about Steve?”
“Negatory, little brother.”
“He’s just jealous because I have another older male friend.”
I heard the smug little smile on his stupid little face. “Yeah, I don’t think he feels the same. Besides, Steve and I really dig each other. I think that he could… well, I know he’s the one.” I watched as some girls walked into the store. “Oh, I got– well, Steve has customers. I’ll call you back.” I hung up the phone, faintly hearing Dustin say that he’s at school.
Turning my head over my shoulder, I whispered, “You're on, babe.”
~~~
Once we were done with our shift, Steve and I went to grab a bite to eat before heading to the basketball game. I said hey to Nancy as we walked in and gave a small wave to Lucas with a thumbs up. He slightly smiled back at me, going back to his warm ups.
After Steve and I found a spot in the bleachers, I turned into him after he put his arm around my shoulders once we sat down. I looked up at him, asking, “Baby, would it bother you if we won this game after we’ve graduated?”
“Interesting point,” he said. “Thanks for bringing that up, babe.”
I chuckled, wrapping my arms around his middle while still looking at him. He looked down at me, giving me a chaste kiss on my lips. “I love you.”
“I love you, too,” he said, a smile ever present on his face.
The principal came up to the microphone that was in the middle of the gym, asking, “Everyone now please rise for our national anthem.” You could hear everyone standing, collectively. “Singing for us tonight, we have a very special guest. All the way from Nashville, our very own Tammy Thompson!”
I clapped while looking confused at Steve as he looked over at Robin, a confused look on his face as well. Tammy started singing, the microphone giving feedback as she did.
“Told you,” Steve whispered. “Muppet.”
“Oh, my god,” I whispered, trying to hold back my laugh at either Steve calling her a muppet or her singing, I couldn’t decide. Maybe a little bit of both.
“Okay, she does sound like a Muppet,” Robin whispered.
“Oh, my god, totally,” I heard Vickie agree. “She sounds like Kermit.”
“I was thinking it was more like Miss Piggy.”
I snorted, turning my head into Steve’s shoulder, his hand coming up to rest on cheek from my shoulder.
When the game started, we got two baskets right off the rip. I honestly didn’t get basketball, I just knew the basics from what Steve had tried to explain to me over the years. But everytime he got to what he thinks is interesting stuff, I would always fall asleep.
I swear I was getting whiplash just watching the boys run up and down the gym, shooting baskets, colliding with one another, almost getting into fights with other team and the ref.
Seeing movement from the corner of my eye, I looked in Lucas’ direction, seeing him running onto the court. “Oh, my god. He’s putting Lucas in. He’s putting Lucas in!” I exclaimed, jumping in my seat, happy that one of my kids is actually playing.
I knew three of them were on school grounds with Hellfire, so I wasn’t worried about them. I wasn’t worried about Lucas either, moreso happy for him that he’s finally getting to play.
Steve was enthusiastic as ever, standing and shouting at our players to shoot the ball, to pass it, to not travel with the ball. I swear to god, seeing him in this element turned me on like no freaking other.
Steve and I were standing, the ball being passed and dribbled around before he said, “Shoot it!” as one of our players got the ball, making the basket.
A few more points in and Jason, the captain, called a timeout. The team huddled together as the drumline started to play a cadence. I secretly did band throughout middle school and freshman year of high school. I quit once Steve became King, not wanting him to be associated with a “nerd.”
Once the game continued, Jason got the ball, and from what I heard from Dustin, Jason’s a cocky motherfucker who thinks he's the top dog of the high school just because he’s King. No one will ever meet up to Steve as King.
Jason shot the ball, not making the basket at all. Ha ha! That’s what he gets. Lucas grabbed the ball as it bounced off the rim, breaking out of the huddle to run a few feet from the basket, turning around to make the shot as the buzzer went off.
You could hear everyone collectively stand again as the ball flew through the air. I could feel Steve behind me as we watched the ball bounce off the rim to the backboard and into the basket, giving us the Championship win!
Steve and I jumped, excited for Lucas and excited for the win. He wrapped me in his arms, giving me a kiss on the lips as the players and cheerleaders ran over to Lucas, chanting his name.
We had waited outside for the team to come out after hitting the showers, Lucas spotting us right away.
“Oh, my god,” I exclaimed, giving him a big hug. “Congratulations!”
“Thanks, Liv,” he said. When we pulled apart, he kept his hands on my shoulders. “Thanks for coming.”
“Of course!” I said. “I wouldn’t miss my little brother playing for the world!”
He smiled before looking at Steve, giving his thanks to him as well. Jason and his small crew came out, calling Lucas over to them. He walked with them as Steve and I started our own journey to his car.
I stopped him as I watched Dustin and the rest of Hellfire walk out of the school. He spotted me, raising his hands in the air. “Liv!” Dustin shouted. “We won!”
Giving him a smile, I raised my thumbs out to him, letting him know I was proud of him.
Steve and I went home that night and celebrated with a movie and popcorn, clothing optional.
Summary : Cosy time in the apartment for Eden and Eddie.
Word Count : 2.1k
Warnings : not proofread, swearing, talks of food issues, talks of eddies dad, talks of arguments, talks of horror films, very fluffy, petnames.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
I passed Eddie a green mug, full of coffee, giving him a smile. I took a sip of my own green tea before sitting down next to him.
“So what movie do you want to watch?” Eddie asked. “It’s up to you.”
“Do you mind horror?”
“Not at all,” I said, grabbing the remote and going to the horror section.
Scrolling through, Eddie leaned forward, putting his mug on the coffee table next to mine. “Thank you for this,” he spoke softly.
“Hm?”
“The company. I appreciate it, your homes really nice.”
“It’s okay. I like the company too.”
“Have you seen the scream movies?”
“Mhm, I only really like the original one though.”
“Wanna watch that one?” Eddie asked. I nodded, going down to find the movie.
Eddie had seemed to settle more now, when he first walked into the apartment, he almost didn’t know what to do. Saying he didn’t want to dirty anything, but of course he was fine.
It was nice seeing him in my space. I could feel myself leaning into him, I found a comfort in the fact he was there. And I think, not to be cocky, that he found that comfort in me.
“Do you want some popcorn?” I asked Eddie, already pushing up off the sofa to make some. “Sure.” I could hear his rings rubbing together, almost as if he was wringing his hands - he had a habit of doing that.
“Hey Eden.” He was leaning against the counter, his hip pressed against it, arms folded. “Yeah?”
“I’m sorry, if this is a weird thing to ask, I’m not good with this, I just um-“
I put the popcorn down, looking at the boy properly now. “What is it Eddie?” I walked over to him, “I uh, I got into a fight with my uncle, and I just … I need a hug-“
Before he even finished the sentence I’d wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him into me. His arms joined around my waist, holding me close as he put his face into my neck.
“It’s okay,” I said, running my hand over his hair. “Thank you for this, we just had a misunderstanding and then everything blew up.”
“Come on, let’s sit.” I took his hand, leading him back to the couch. Holding his hand in my lap, I let the boy speak. “He heard me on the phone, getting an earful from the head of the school.”
Humming, the boy continued, “He flipped. Saying this is what happens to music stars and that I should focus on history and do something sensible.”
“Oh Eddie I’m sorry,” I rubbed my thumb on the back of his hand.
“That wasn’t even the worse bit, he said that music like mine led to my mom’s downfall. Meeting my dad, he’s a deadbeat, having me a teenager and then dying soon after.”
I squeezed his hand. “Music makes me feel so connected to her and he just made it out to be this horrible thing. I flipped after that saying it was something beautiful she left behind, and that he was mad because he was stuck on a dull job.
“Then I walked out, haven’t been home since,” he sighed, rubbing his face with his large palms. “God, where did you sleep?”
“In the van, have blankets and stuff in there.”
“Eddie that’s so unsafe!”
“It’s fine.”
“How are you feeling about seeing your uncle?”
“I think I should stay away, I’ve never shouted at him before.”
“Well okay, you can stay away today, but you’re going home and speaking to him tomorrow.” He raised a brow at me. “You can sleep here. Johnny and Steve have both left clothes here so.”
“You don’t have to do th-“ I cut him off.
“I want too. Let me look after you.” I put my hand on his knee squeezing. “Thank you Eden, you’re a really good person.”
“So are you. Now let’s watch this movie.”
“Before we do, can I borrow a hair tie?” Nodding, I walked to my room and gave the band a good stretch before walking out. Eddie held his thick locks and pulled them back, tying them into his signature bun.
“Thank you, was getting a little warm.”
“Of course.”
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
The movie was around the halfway point when I felt something on my shoulder. Looking at Eddie. His eyes closed, long lashes kissing his cheeks, his lips pouted slightly as he let out soft breaths.
He really was beautiful.
The night in the van must have been awful, I didn’t want to disturb him, letting him remain where he was. He seemed so peaceful, which was amusing, considering the movie that was playing.
The popcorn was long forgotten, tea and coffee had gone cold and I, myself began to feel tired. My head resting on top of Eddies as my eyes fell shut.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
“Be quiet!” I heard a voice hiss. Nancy? I heard almost silent footsteps,but they were clumsy, Robin? With a sigh my eyes opened slowly, seeing the pair in front of me.
“Hi?” I said, voice croaky as they stared at me. “Hello.”
“Hi.” They said in sync. Both sporting small grins. “What?” I asked.
Nancy motioned her head to next to besides me. I hadn’t noticed I was now lay down on the couch, resting on a familiar person. Eddie lay sound asleep. The night in the van must have been rough.
“Oh,” I said.
“Oh?” Robin snorted.
“Shut up, both of you shoo. Go.” I waved them off, and with giggled they went. Picking up my phone I saw that it was getting late.
“Eddie,” I said, shaking him gently. He let out humming sound of protest at being disturbed, which made me laugh. “Come on, up you get.”
“Did I- Oh shit .. sorry,” he figured out he’d fallen asleep then. But that wasn’t what my focus was on, it was on how deep his voice had gotten, thick with sleep. Good fucking lord. The sound went straight to my … never mind.
“Come on, you can hop in the shower and I’ll fix us some dinner?”
“Are you sure?”
“Course I am,” I offered a sleepy smile. Leading him to the bathroom I lay out some clothes, then fetched some of Steve’s clothes out of a spare draw.
He crashed here a lot. “I’ll leave them on here, help yourself to anything. The peach scented stuff is mine so, but if you don’t want that, Jonathan’s stuff is in here,” I motioned to a cupboard.
“I think I’ll take you up on the peach stuff, you always smell great.” I snorted, with a nod of my head, placing towels and a change of clothes on the counter top, scurrying away.
Walking out into the kitchen, I saw Nancy and Robin leaning up against the counter. “What?” I asked.
“Eddies here,” Nancy said with a shrug.
“He is. I said he could stay the night, he’s had a fight with his uncle so. Is that good with you guys?”
Both of them let out a yell of “Yes!” With wide eyes I looked at them, “What is up with you two?”
“Just you and Eddie … it’s cute,” Robin said.
“He’s a friend.”
“Sure E,” Robin smirked, “And Vic and John are our friends,” she motioned between herself and Nancy.
“Both of you shush! So what he’s cute. I like spending time with him, but I’ve know him for like a week!”
“And?”
“And it’s a week!” I exclaimed, throwing my hands up in the air.
“I’ve never seen you this into a guy E, or anyone for that matter.”
“Well I don’t really do this kind of thing.”
“What?”
“Like people.”
The pair smiled, jesus it was like looking at two cheshire cats. “So you like him?” Robin asked. “I … maybe? I don’t know!”
Nancy hummed, “Come on Robs, let’s leave her be.” The shorter girl held the others hand leading her away. With a sigh I rubbed my face, heading to make dinner for me and Eddie.
Those girls would be the death of me … or the very attractive man who was currently naked in my bathroom.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
Around 20 minutes later I heard the bathroom door open, and was thankful for the quick meal of shitty but fantastic tacos I’d made for me and Eddie.
“Hey,” he spoke from behind me, as I grabbed up two cans of Dr Pepper, something I’d found out he liked. “Hi,” I turned to look at the boy and nearly choked at the sight.
His hair was damp, still dripping a few beads of water. Steve’s top was too small for Eddie slightly larger frame, the muscles on his arms making it stretch tight.
It was slightly too short on him, making it cropped, revealing his soft yet toned stomach. Oh my god. Clearing my throat, I slid the plate and drink to him.
“Thank you, I feel a lot better now,” The boy said, instantly tucking into the food. “It’s okay,” I smiled. The food was shit, but the company was great. I hadn’t felt this comfortable eating around someone in a long time.
Eddie was a sweet boy.
Eddie was a great friend.
Eddie was someone I could see myself falling for.
“Eden!” I looked up, Eddies dark eyes watching me. “Where’d you go Princess?” Putting the taco back on the plate I hummed before speaking, “Sorry was in my own head, skating stuff.”
“Oh yeah? Anything I can do to help?” With a shake of my head I replied, “Nah, just got my trainer back, so routines changed a bit.”
He let out a soft ‘oh’, sound taking another bite of his food.
I took him in, his tattoos, his pretty face, where his fingertips were rough from playing guitar, but steady from painting.
He really was extraordinary.
“Did you do those yourself?” I asked, motioning to one of the tattoos on his arm. It was a puppet on strings, “I drew it, but I didn’t do this one. I’ve got a few shitty stick and pokes,” he laughed.
He turned his arm so I could see a wobbly smiley face there. “I did that when I was 17, old man almost killed me when he realised it wasn’t marker,” he laughed.
“Your old man?”
“Uh my Uncle Wayne.”
“Oh I see,” I nodded taking a sip of my drink, “You don’t see your dad?”
“I haven’t seen him since I was like 12? No clue where he’s at to be honest.”
“Right, so not long after your mom passed.”
“Yeah, he got worse, got arrested and Wayne’s my closest relative so. I guess I got lucky. I know I’m pissed at him, but he’s a great guy.”
“He does sound it. I’ll look forward to meeting him.” With a smirk he looked at me, “You wanna meet him?”
“Well you’ve met my dad, only fair that I meet yours.”
“I guess you’re right princess.” With a nod I motioned to his plate, “Want any more?”
“Sure if there’s any going.” Taking his plate in hand, I filled it back up with tacos and veggies.
“Here you go pretty boy, eat up.” Eddies face flushed and he brushed his hair back out of his face, it was bothering him clearly.
“I can braid it for you if you want?”
“What?”
“Your hair, I can braid it.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, finish eating and I’ll do it for you.”
The boy seemed to wolf it down, at that offer. Soon enough he was sat on the couch, I was behind it brushing through his hair with my hands, putting detangler in it.
He was almost purring at the feeling. Soon his hair was in three seconds, being braided into one. “Does this feel okay?” I asked.
“Mhm.”
“Not too tight?”
“No it feels fine.
Soon his thick curls were in a large braid, that came past his shoulders. “You have such pretty hair I’m jealous.” I plopped myself next to him.
“Thank you.” He stretched out letting out a slight yawn. “You tired?” I asked.
“A little.”
“I’ll go get you some pillows and a blanket okay?”
“Okay.”
Going to my room I grabbed a blanket out of my wardrobe and a couple pillows off my bed. Wandering back out to Eddie, he gave me a smile. “Thanks Princess.”
“You sure you’re okay sleeping out here? I can bunk in with one of the girls and you can stay in my room.”
“Seriously it’s all good. This couch is a lot comfier than the van,” he joked.
“You try and get some sleep okay?” He nodded, taking the pillows and placing them at the end of the couch, pulling the blanket over his lap.
“Goodnight Eddie.”
“Goodnight Princess.”
Walking to my room he spoke again, “Eden?” I hummed, turning to face him.
“Thank you.”
“Anytime.”
Forever Starts Now
I was asked to do a sequel to Forever With You this time including the wedding. So here it is. Thank you for the prompt. It was lovely to write.
It does feel weird to not advertise myself in this bit. But prompts reopen this Friday, May 26th. Until then you can always check out my previous prompts or my ao3.
“I will admit, I had pictured your wedding differently.”
Nancy looked up from where she was pulling at her white gown. It probably shouldn’t have been white.
“Please mom, not this again.” She sighed as her eyes locked with her mother’s.
“No, no. I’m not complaining.” Karen stepped further into the room. “You look good. Happy.”
Nancy forced out a laugh. “Shocking because I feel like I’m about to have a heart attack.”
“Second thoughts?”
“No.” Nancy shook her head. “I want to marry her. I love her. But… God, it feels so… so final. Like once I walk down the aisle there is no going back anymore.”
“Would that be an issue?”
Nancy wasn’t entirely sure if her mom was trying to talk her out of this or not. “Not for me. I can’t even believe how lucky I am that she wants to spend her life with me but mom,... What if… She-” She took a breath. “She deserves better than me. I’m such a mess and what if one day she realizes that she doesn’t want to clean up after me anymore. I have all this trauma that follows me wherever I go and I keep dragging her into it. Just the other day I kept her up till 5 am, just because I was afraid to go to sleep. And she does it. She does whatever I need her to do every single time but someday she might get tired of it and then… it’ll hurt so much more if I go through with this.”
“Sweetie.” Karen pulled her daughter into a hug. “How long have you and Robin been together?”
“7 years.”
“Exac- 7 years? Nancy! You told me you didn’t start dating until your junior year of college.” Karen exclaimed, pulling back.
“That might have been a lie. But seriously mom, you didn’t suspect anything? Me and Robin were roommates.”
“Well, 7 years then. In that time has Robin ever made any move to leave you?”
Nancy considered the question seriously. She went over every single fight they had had. How they had argued when Robin forgot to do the dishes right after moving into their small Boston apartment together. How Nancy had lashed out when they went to a gay bar and Robin accidentally flirted with another girl several years ago. How Robin had shouted at her when Nancy pulled up her walls or gave her the silent treatment.
But Robin had secretly done the dishes while Nancy went to the supermarket. And Robin had held her hands and assured her that she was just trying to be nice and that there was no one she could ever love like she loved Nancy. And Robin might have shouted at her but her words had always been kind and she’d spent her nights holding Nancy’s crying form. She had never run out, slammed the door behind her, went to sleep in the middle of an argument. Things that couldn’t be said about Nancy herself who preferred to run before she’d get hurt.
“She never has.” Nancy admitted, almost ashamed of giving the idea any thought at all.
“Instead she asked you to marry her. She didn’t do that on a whim. She waited 7 years to be sure that this was the best for both of you. She knows what she’s in for and she wants to be with you every day of her life. I might not know everything about your relationship but I do know that Robin isn’t the type to run out when it gets difficult.”
“Nancy! Your wedding is starting in T minus 2 minutes. Please tell me you are ready?” Dustin yelled from the hallway.
“Time to go.” Karen smiled at her daughter as she pulled her out of the dressing room.
The first thing Nancy noticed wasn’t the bright bouquets of flowers her mom had picked out, despite what she had said when they were preparing the place. The first thing she noticed was Robin’s bright smile, lighting up the room. That same smile she was greeted with when she came home after a long day of fighting the patriarchy. It was an anchor, keeping her stable. It always made it easy to take the next step. If she could have she’d run to Robin, fall into her arms. She didn’t though. She stayed in check. Noticing how Steve leaned toward his best friend to whisper something in her ear that somehow made Robin smile even brighter. Nancy would ask about it later. Later when they’d be sharing their bridal suit that her own parents had insisted they’d take.
She stopped walking when she reached Robin. “You look beautiful.” She whispered the second Nancy was in earshot.
Just like the very first time Robin had said those words, Nancy blushed a soft shade of pink.
“Today we are joined together to unite these two beautiful women into their holy matrimony.” Murray began his speech. Robin was snickering beside her. “Please tell me you have prepared your own vows.”
“We have.” Nancy nodded with a smile.
He motioned for them to start. Nancy could feel her hands starting to sweat. She could only imagine how nervous Robin must be. But when she looked up, Robin seemed as calm as ever, nodding in understanding and clearing her throat.
“Hello, Nance.” Robin started.
“Hi.” Nancy replied automatically.
“Throughout these past few years you’ve changed my life. I remember being 17 and feeling like my whole life was one big error, feeling like I’d never truly be happy. And then you waltzed into my life, smooth as ever, staring me down as if I had just broken into your home and you were getting ready to shoot me. And I instantly fell in love. All it took was one look, one ‘who are you?’” Robin imitated Nancy’s voice as best she could, which wasn’t very well. “And I was hooked. So hooked I was frightened to talk to you for like a year. But then we became friends and I found an understanding in you that wasn’t just unexpected but it was so desperately needed. Since then a lot has changed. Somehow I have gotten you to fall in love with me. It must be the incessant rambling, I’m sure.”
Nancy laughed softly.
“We went to college together. We moved in together. We build a home and we build a life. And Nancy Wheeler, it is better than anything I could have wished for. I love waking up next to you, whether it’s at 10 am, 6 am or 3am. I love holding you through our shared nights. I love spending hours debating which movie to watch just for you to fall asleep during the opening credits. I love when you complain about work almost as much as when you talk about it with pride. I love reading the first drafts of your articles. I love spending my time with you. And frankly, I can’t wait to keep doing it. I can’t wait to wake up next to you every single day of my life. Because most of all Nancy, I love you. And I vow to keep loving you till the day I die.”
Nancy couldn’t help but blink away the tears that were forming in her eyes. “Is it my turn now?” She asked, her voice barely audible.
“Yes.”
“God Robin, I love you.” She breathed. “I can’t-” Her voice faltered. The instant those two words escaped her mouth, Robin’s smile vanished.
“We don’t have to. Just say the word and we’ll pretend this never happened.” Robin had lowered her voice to a whisper.
“Robin, I- I do want this.” She swallowed the lump in her throat, staring into those kind blue eyes that had never been more unsure. “This world isn’t kind to people like us. It isn’t kind to women in general. But Robin, when I get home and see your smile I don’t care about any of that. You make the rest of the world disappear and there is nothing I want more than to stand here with you today and declare how much I love you because Robin, my heart aches when I’m away from you and I’m convinced it shouldn’t continue doing that after being together for this long. I wish the world was different. I wish we could sign that stupid document that would bind us together legally. I wish I could take you to the office Christmas parties instead of having to pretend I’m still waiting for the right man. But you know what, fuck all of that. What we have is between us. And that’s all it has to be. And I vow to cherish every moment we get to spend together. And when one day in the near or far future the world eases up on us like you so believe, I vow to marry you again.”
“Murray?” Robin said without looking away from Nancy. “Please tell me this is the part where I get to kiss the bride. Because I don’t know how long I can contain myself.”
“No, no. First it’s the rings. Robin- Wait what is your middle name?”
“No middle names.” Nancy and Robin replied in unison.
“Okay. Robin Buckley, do you take Nancy Wheeler as your wife?” Murray asked.
“I do.” She said as Nancy slid a thin gold band around her left ring finger.
“And do you, Nancy Wheeler, take Robin Buckley as your wife?”
“I do.” Robin pushed the ring on Nancy’s finger with a soft sigh.
“Then by the power invested in me by your good faith, I pronounce you wife and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Robin closed the gap between them, pressing her lips against Nancy’s.
