Oh hi there just call me MacGyver 😘 All of my floor cleaning machinery has been breaking down like they've got the seasonal depression too. 2 half-broke vacuums, 3 fully-broke steam mops, then even my heckin' old school style mop bucket got a hole in it. (Side note: is there anyone else but me on this whole earth who remembers that grade school song "There's a Hole in the Bucket Dear Liza, Dear Liza," or just me? Lol.) But tonight with a screwdriver and some cleaner and one paperclip to clean out all the tiny things --- Bam WHAT??!! I fixed it. Kiddo says it's this men's flannel I bought at the Bimart yesterday. That it gave me strong lesbian lumberjack energy so I was actually capable for once. She said it as a compliment, I'm feeling powerful, so whatever. Lol. ❤️ (I bought this #flannel because it had #pearlsnap buttons, reminds me of my grandpa. And: it was actually long enough to cover my tush, ha.) Are you the type that easily fixes things or no? I'm a single momma, just me and a 12 year old. I try REALLY HARD to do it all myself but this type of thing? I suck at. So, this is a proud brag of my mild bad assery. 🏆 #flannelshirt #flannelweather #pearlsnapshirt #flannelseason #fixingstuff #handywoman #doitherself #40something #singlemom #singlemomproblems #singlemomlife #ididit #steammop #housekeeping #cleaninghouse #mommalife #momsrock #girlpower💪 (at Terrace Heights, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ckut269L7oG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

13/100.
So anyway. Here's my above-the-fridge cupboard in its well-hung glory.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I used this type of hardware, three of them along the top end of the cupboard. It's called a toggle bolt.
Tumblr media
Alright. My next priority is Christmas gifts for my kids. If I'm going to order anything online I have to do it soon. Tick-tock tick-tock! The thing is, in order to stretch my budget, I want to use points I earn from doing surveys. I have about $100 worth of points with this one survey company called Web Perspectives. I've been doing surveys off and on for years, and I tried a whole bunch of different ones out when I first discovered you can earn a bit here and there doing them. Somehow Web Perspectives is the only one I do these days. Not sure if that means they are better than others, but there must be a reason why I still use them and not others.
There are a couple of ways I can cash-in the points. Two options are Amazon e-gift cards and Indigo e-gift cards. You just trade your points for the cards, then login in to Amazon/Indigo and apply the cards to your account. I'm thinking about getting my kids a couple of books and need to check whether I should get them from Amazon or Indigo. The Indigo cards cost 1000 points for a $10 gift card, whereas Amazon costs 1200 for $10. So you get a little more bang for your buck (er, point) with Indigo. However, you obviously have more things you can spend the money on with Amazon. You also have to factor in shipping costs. Also, I think Indigo changed something recently where you can no longer add a gift card amount to use for later, you have to apply it at checkout. With Amazon, you can squirrel away gift card amounts to use whenever you want. I currently have $70 of credit on Amazon, plus another $20 I haven't added yet.
Another detail about this process with Web Perspectives is that you can only redeem points for a maximum of two gift cards per day. So even though I have about $100 worth of points, I can't redeem them all at once, I can only redeem about $20 per day. So you need to plan ahead a little bit to use them.
The other company I use for points is called Nielsen Homescan. You get a scanner or, more recently, just download an app, and you scan the stuff you buy and they collect the data for companies that pay them for market research. In return you earn points that you can redeem for stuff. They used to only have a catalogue of actual stuff, which was kind of limiting because maybe you're not interested in any of the stuff in the catalogue (for instance, I've redeemed points for movie tickets, pillow cases, and a camping lantern in the past). And the stuff was really "expensive" (you needed a shit-ton of points to just be able to get the most inexpensive things). But now they also have an Amazon gift card option! I think this is fairly recent.
So that's the background info on my foray into online surveys. You won't get rich doing it but it's an easy way to earn a couple of bucks when you have 5 or 10 minutes to kill. It's great for when you have to be physically but not mentally present for something. For example, waiting for an appointment or a bus or a client, or when you have a couple of minutes gap between meetings or classes that you would otherwise be spending being bored out of your skull, or when you've taken the kids to the playground or the dog to the dog park and are just sitting there while they play and you just need to look up from time to time to make sure everyone is ok. Everyone has these sorts of "in between other things" times, why not earn some money while you're doing nothing anyway?
Alright, so here's my updated to-do list:
Gmail account sign in.
Buy new charger for Pixel phone.
Transfer Web Perspectives Amazon e-gift card to Amazon account.
Fill out eye surgery forms. ✓
Take photos and email back to clinic. ✓
Check previous clinic's paperwork to see which lens they recommended.
Make appointment at bank.
Print out bank documents.
No printer service at library--do I need to print it? Download to thumb drive and think about next steps.
Compare cost of books Indigo vs Amazon.
Recurring:
Alternate heat and ice on foot.
Do hamstring stretches.

Roll out knots in leg muscle.
Do Sun Salutation x5 - 0/5
Take inhaler

The OPD team needed a new rack to hang up their equipment. Naturally I jumped in like a Hart Tools poster girl to start drilling holes! I ended up having to switch to an impact driver, but with the 20v system I just swap the battery from one tool to another. #diy #diygirl #handywoman #hart @harttoolsusa #iworkatwalmart #woodworking #woodworkingwoman #shophome (at Walmart Parker - W Riverside Dr) https://www.instagram.com/p/CiE1b3xvBMX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

At a point in our summer long outdoor reno project, backyard edition, to share some pics! First off, Mark & the guys did an amazing job on the #privacyfence & also in prepping & painting the deck. I get ZERO flowers for any of that. While they were working on that stuff, I built the brick entrance way, the retaining wall, the raised patio, and made a level place to barbecue, with “Steps” to navigate down the hill to the backyard proper. I am super proud of myself! I did 99% percent of it by myself. Mark would lift something especially heavy or help me carry heavy loads of sand or rock or pavers, but mostly, physics was my friend and I just figured it out. I’m so freaking chuffed with it all! #DIY #DIYProjects #CurbAppeal #BackyardMakeover #Backyard #reno #Deck #GirlPower #PrivacyFence #GirlsWithPowerTools #HandyWoman #outdoors #DeckLife (at St. Louis, Missouri) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChLRQp5us7u/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Because we all need more tools! But seriously though my brad nailer was damaging everything it touched and we all know about my love hate relationship with my dinosaur of a circular saw, so they needed replacing and I got both of these for less than $140 at @homedepot for their @ryobitoolsusa days! How have you been enjoying the sunny weekend? Today, @j.mossman21 and I started on the decking replacement. It was much harder than I thought since the screws were rusted, wood was rotten, and we were both dripping in sweat! In the end, Josh with a crowbar and pure strength managed to get the majority of the tough bits up. Tomorrow we'll put some extra support down and lay the new decking. Then I'll be treating it straight away this time! May as well give the French a new lick of paint whilst I have everything moved out. 12/100.
Need to regroup again. This Tumblr blog is like my mini mental reset. A place to just kind of stop, reflect, and organize my thoughts.
Tumblr media
Oh guess what! I finished rehanging the kitchen cupboard above the fridge! I'm so proud of myself for breaking down something I thought was going to be really hard into smaller manageable steps. It was still a little hard but taking it one step at a time made it realistically achievable.
So here's before and after applying the drywall filler. Lol, I bet you can't tell the difference. There wasn't much to fill.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are some close-up shots. (Ok, the red stuff is not dried blood. It was the colour the kitchen was painted when I moved in. Ikr.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The putty is pink but turns white when it's dry. Neat, huh?!
Next, I painted with primer (which I got for free from my local Buy Nothing group 👍). Then with my favourite white paint colour, Mountainpeak White. It's a neutral-warm white that I use all over the house. It's the white of, like, table cream.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Yeah, the tape was an afterthought. I didn't really need it because the cupboard would be covering the part where white meets green, but I realized when applying the primer that maybe I didn't know where to stop painting and needed a guide, lol).
This was all the easy part. The hard part was mounting the cupboard. First, I needed to build a "structure" to hold it up. This is why I needed the milk crates I was using as a book shelf in my bedroom!
Tumblr media
And the cupboard in all its well-hung glory! (😂)
Oh shoot! I'm outta photo space again! I'll have to show you the well-hung glory next post.
In the meantime, here's my updated to-do list. Currently, I'm stuck at filling out eye surgery forms. I know why I'm stuck. It's asking me about previous surgeries and I'm not sure what to put. Is the procedure I had before a "surgery"? What was it called and when did I have it? I don't remember and I can't find paperwork about it. Is it really that important to put down? Ugh 😩 I know I should just put down "procedure to remove suspicious growth" (it wasn't cancerous and it wasn't a cyst, I know this for sure.) And then just put down the year (2019?) And be done with it. If they want more specific details I'll have to get it from my doctor, I guess. I wish I knew WHY they need to know this. Do they want to know whether I have ever been put under? Do they want to know if I've ever had major surgery? What do they want to know?? If they had given me the forms when I arrived at my consultation instead of when I was leaving, I might have been able to ask someone my questions during the almost 3 hours I was sitting in the waiting room 🙄.
Running to-do list:
Hang cabinet. ✓
Figure out how to hang cabinet. ✓
Build scaffold. ✓
Get milk crates. ✓
Remove dog crate. ✓
Remove stuff from milk crates. ✓
Remove everything from under kitchen sink and check for leaks. ✓
Gmail account sign in.
Buy new charger for Pixel phone.
Transfer e-gift card to Amazon account. ✓
Check Web Perspectives point balance. ✓
Cash in Web Perspectives points for Amazon e-gift card. ✓
Transfer Web Perspectives Amazon e-gift card to Amazon account.
Do Web Perspectives surveys.
Fill out eye surgery forms.
Make appointment at bank.
Print out bank documents.
Recurring:
Alternate heat and ice on foot.
Do hamstring stretches.
