A student demo gone horribly horribly wrong or right. I can't decide. I decided to do a character design demo for Alligator Loki and stepped them through my thought process of matching the mid-century modern aesthetics of the TVA. Mid-century modern always equates to Hanna Barbara in my brain. So I pulled from their characters, but Wally Gator doesn't really feel Loki enough, so instead, I went with more of a Muttley feel.
IDK why we ended up with the sexy sprawl.

Your union idea for superheroes unions show that there is really no such thing as superhero fatigue . It’s that corporations don’t want to take risks anymore with new ideas. You can still make a good superhero movies but do something interesting. The same thing can be said about any genre. Btw, what your opinions on why the MCU is no longer what it use to be?
Funny thing is that I have been told by mutual @princess-unipeg superhero unions were a thing back then.
Tumblr media
As for your opinion on Superhero Fatigue, I'd say it's a relative thing, and personally, I think it's a very real thing because I can feel it in my bones. And it's not just the MCU that's giving me migraines; BnHA, Invincible and The Boys are to blame as well, with their maintenance of Status Quo, overused tropes and clichés, plus the usage of emotional blackmail as a cheap tactic to make us care for the worst types of people.
I only care about two Superhero series as of late: SpiderVerse and Shy. Everything else is garbage.
Not to mention how I am tired of the MCU getting all of the credits for carrying the Cinematic Universe patent, when other franchises such as Super Mario Bros., Pretty Cure and Hanna-Barbera have been doing this for decades.
And the thing that separates them all from the MCU, is that they feel more like anthologies, and that's why they work so much better; you don't need to consume every single product to understand how things work and the audience's intelligence isn't relentlessly mocked with pretentiousness.
The MCU should have died at Endgame. Like, it's right there in the title. It's also where plenty of cracks were starting to show, such as racial/sexual prejudice, secrecy that goes into bordeline paranoia, clickbait tactics, overuse of CGI and death of creativity/originality.
Tumblr media
That's how low the bar is at, fam.

Me in the board room discussing my next Hannah-Barbera movie pitch to the higher ups: "So then after JabberJaw's space pod lands on earth Chris Pratt shows up-"
Higher up: "Wait, is this the same Chris Pratt character from your El Kabong pitch?"
Me: "No, different character but also played by Chris Pratt."
Higher up: "Look you can't have Chris Pratt play different characters in every movie here, we're trying to make a cinematic universe! What happens when we do our big avengers crossover and you have 10 Chris Pratts!?!"
Me: "Oh yeah that reminds me, Chris Pratt is also Moltar in space ghost!"
Higher up: "OH why did our satanic business God force us to put this autistic woman in charge of a Hanna-Barbera cinematic universe film series!??!"

Loony Toons Tiny Toon Adventures, I Love Lucy, and Night Court exist in the DC Multiverse: Prove Me Wrong!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wile E. Coyote appears in the 1990 episode "Still Another Day In the Life." Night Court is fairly unique among televised sitcoms of it's era in that it does not take place in any known sitcom universe (Nickelodeon Cinematic Universe, TGIF Universe, Snow Globe Universe, Hurricane Saturday Universe, etc.) However I Love Lucy did meet Superman in the 1957 episode "Lucy and Superman." This was Pre-Crisis but it may suggest that Night Court is connected to it in the Post-Crisis continuity. In 1992 Superman would appear in the direct-to-video animated film "How I Spent My Vacation." The timing of the Night Court appearance and How I Spent My Vacation occur during the post-Crisis/Pre-Zero Hour period suggesting that Night Court and Loony Toons/Tiny Toon Adventures all took place in the mainline DCU. Somewhat confusingly pre-crisis cartoons like "Super-Rabbit" and "Stupor Duck" take place on a world where the DC Superheroes are all fictional (not unlike Earth Prime) however The Plucky Duck Show pilot "Batduck" appears to take place in a world where Batman exists but is apathetic to Plucky's efforts to get cast in "Batman Returns" a film that perhaps Bruce Wayne is financing. Batman does however make a cameo in the "Dance of Doom" pilot of Freakazoid adding evidence the existence that these shows shared an earth. Some will argue that this is proves that the Warner Brothers series and Night Court exist on Earth-12 however remember this appearance is post Zero-Hour. Also Earth-12 wasn't officially introduced until after Flashpoint.
Tumblr media
In the 2000 comic mini-series Superman & Bugs Bunny (written by the great Mark Evanier) the Loony Toons are brought to earth by Mr Mxyzptlk. In this comic the Loony Toons are from a parallel world. Given that this book was published after both Zero Hour and The Kingdom we must assume that Hypertime is involved.
DC Meets Loony Toons comics suggest that there in fact multiple Warner Brothers Cartoon worlds some of which the The Loony Toons and the DC Superheros co-inhabit and some don't. My theory is that these worlds were split after the events of Flashpoint and the various Loony Toons (as well as Night Court and I Love Lucy) were taken dome worlds by Braniac. Somewhat confusingly this was published post Rebirth but clearly takes place during the prior Convergence event. This would also also account for the Hanna-Barbera Beyond event as well as the Flintstones and Snagglepuss comics from the era.
Tumblr media
The Loony Toons would once again meet the DC Superheroes in 2021's Space Jam: A New Legacy the Loony Toons (and many other cartoons) exist on one single earth. Somewhat confusingly they encounter superheroes twice while Bugs is rounding up the gang. I believe this means that Daffy was playing Superhero on Earth 12 while Lola was training with the Post-Rebirth Wonder Woman. Something confirmed by the fact that the Loony Toons jump into a literal comic to recruit Lola. The Loony Toons continue to have a mostly shared earth but 2022's Jellystone and the upcoming Tiny Toons Looniversity exist in their own parallel pocket dimensions.
As for Night Court despite John Larroquette returning to the 2022 reboot we have overt references to Dan Fielding's successful prosecution of Wile E. Coyote however the fact that the charges in the episode were dropped from attempted murder to harassment in the 1990 episode reflect Fielding's personal growth and softening of a character. It appears to once again be on it's own pocket universe separate from all superhero, cartoon, and sitcom universes unless it is confirmed to be the future of I Love Lucy.

I'm just gonna share this neat little indie animation, hand-drawn by SpikeyTortoise and created by Austin McConnell as part of the Super Zeroes Cinematic Universe!
Catman is a pilot episode featuring David Merryweather, bestowed with feline powers and nine lives! With strong retro Hanna-Barbera style of animation and cheesy noir elements, it's a fun superhero caper that embraces its very eccentric and cartoony tropes, especially their superhero protagonist!
It's pretty awesome and free to watch on YouTube!

(Meanwhile, in the Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe)
Inky: Hey guys, guess what!
Pinky: What?
Inky: No, you have to guess.
Pinky: I dunno.
[long pan across the room showing every teammate looking confused and annoyed at Inky]
Inky, cheerfully: Mezmeron's in the hospital!
Sue: Why'd you make us guess THAT?

The Sensational Cat-Man!
So a youtuber I follow, Austin McConnell, is doing a project of creating his own "cinematic universe" from golden age public domain comic book characters.
He's recently released a cartoon that he wrote and had animated which has strong Hanna Barbera/Superfriends vibes. I know I, for one would have been eagerly tuning into this every Saturday morning! You may want to check it out!

Keiko Iwao (My Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe OC)
Name: Keiko Iwao
Age: 13, later 14
Occupation: Professor Pat Pending’s student assistant
Weapons: modern technology, mythology, ski poles
Backstory: Born in Little Tokyo, California to Suyin and Hiroshi Iwao, Keiko was happy as any child can be. When she just turned ten on a cold November (the following week), Keiko and her parents went to a ballet in New York City but upon leaving the theatre, a horrid snow storm appeared and despite Hiroshi’s cautious driving, their car crashed into the woods. Keiko survived, but her parents were gone. Now, Keiko lives with her aunt Miyuki and uncle Jiro Chirko, studying with Professor Pat Pending.
Personality: As her own parents died, Keiko is worried that the people she connects with will be gone the second she blinks, so she is mostly spends time with her dog, Bijou (My other HBCU OC) at malls or the tranquility of the forest. She keeps her mother’s necklace from childhood, unknowingly by her made by a young Dick Dastardly as his only gift of love before turning to a life of crime.
Keiko is friendly, street-smart, helpful, book smart, and even motherly in heart, but her insecurity and tragic past makes her shy and lonely. She is engrossed in modern technology but is very sweet to animals from the tall to the small.
Keiko may seem like a strong willed girl but is easily a damsel in destress: if she is about to fall off a breaking bridge or needs a help (for example, to save her from monsters), someone close will come to her rescue. She knows all elements in both modern and ancient history. Despite her fragility, Keiko can be very acrobatic and uses her ski poles to swing her body over anything from ice to stone.
Inspiration:
Her last name comes from Hanna Barbera artist Iwao Takamoto.
Pocahontas (Disney): They have connection with and hold the knowledge of nature and have necklaces of their mothers.
Jane (Return to Neverland): They both wear sweaters over their night gowns.
Tabitha Templeton (Boss Baby: Family Business): both are scientific, intelligent students
Dorothy Gale (The Wizard of Oz): both are girls who are easily frightened and tend to cry.
Tarzan (Disney): Keiko’s athletics and speed
Densia (Hanna Barbera Smurfs): Keiko is loosely based on Densia, both black haired girls who hang out with main villains (Densia with Gargamel, Keiko with Dastardly) but friends with his enemies (Densia with Smurfs, Keiko with the other Wacky Racers).
Role in Hanna Barbera Cinematic Universe:
Keiko chases her scarf while playing ice skating, which heads up in Dastardly’s airship version of the Mean Machine, discovering Dastardly’s soft side. Caught by the surprised Dastardly, who is angry with Muttley for not returning with motor oil for their ship, she runs away in fear and unwittingly reminds Dastardly of an old childhood friend who tragically died. Then by the third encounter, they spark a new friendship and Dastardly treats her with respect due to his constant reminder of her resemblance to his deceased childhood friend. However, he isn’t aware of Keiko is Suyin’s daughter as she isn’t aware of her mother’s friendship with Dick. Dastardly thought Suyin (or Su as he called her when they were kids) died when she fell in a frozen lake. He was a young teen and she was four or five, they had a close bond. When he tried to rescue Su, Dastardly thought he was too late and didn’t see if she was okay due to the cruelty of his father, who threatened both Dastardly and his brother, the Dread Baron until their mom stepped up and took the boys away out of fear. But Su did survive, thanks to the necklace he gave her, only lost hearing in her right ear. They never saw each other again. But Keiko does remind Dastardly of her mom, but they do not know the truth until later on.
Muttley immediately liked Keiko before Dastardly’s first meeting with her, and the feeling is mutual.
The Wacky Racers, especially Professor Pat Pending, Peter Perfect and Penelope Pitstop, are happy upon learning Dastardly and Keiko’s newfound friendship, and they do their best to unite the two loving lonely hearts. Keiko loves Peter and Penelope like parental figures.
Hanna-Barbera series
1960s to 1980s Voice: Lucille Bliss (the original Smurfette voice)/Katie Leigh (Densia voice)
2020s Voice: Probably have any newcomer Japanese-American actress should voice Keiko.
Trivia:
Keiko is presented here as if she would be in Disney series, despite being a Hanna-Barbera OC.

Hanna-Barbera Headcannons!
First off, a debt of gratitude to @joey-gatorman for providing some invaluable inspiration and assistance behind the Peter Potamus diving par-tay backstory, which, I must admit, is inspiring some upcoming vignettes in this blog fron time to time. Which might be something Warner Animation Group may want to consider should they be at loss for some fresh Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe ideas. Too, my appy polly loggies to Snagglepuss for inspiring the quasi-sophisto treatment of “par-tay” for the sake of this backstory.
Sticking with the Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe for a moment: Who could just picture a likely treatment of Trollkins therefor drawing upon the “hicksploitation” genre popular until the mid-1970′s targeting Southern drive-in cinema audiences in particular as the basis of its plot and backstory, even if it means trying to keep it within the parameters of a PG rating (with Consumer Advice for things like “Some Suggestive Humour” and “Double-Entendre”)?
Returning to Peter Potamus for the moment: I understand his wanderlust-fuelled tastes probably inspire his taste in coffee--as in a blend of the two rarest coffees available, Jamaica Blue Mountain (only about 100 bags produced annually) and the legendary Kopi Luwak (as in that Indonesian “cat poop” coffee).
Is it just me, or does anyone else get the idea that Captain Caveman may be a “cousin” of The Boulder Brothers, Rock and Gravel (#1 Bouldermobile on Wacky Races), and Hanna-Barbera may not have been aware of the likelihood?
