How the Sarahs (AHS, Alice, Harriet, Mildred) React to You Wanting a Baby
Tumblr media
Masterlist
@cordelia-winters-fan said: Hc for how Sarah's characters react to you wanting a baby?
Billie Dean Howard
Billie never saw herself as the motherly type
But once you bring up the idea one night while the two of you are lying in bed together, she can’t stop thinking about it
She’s not sure if you’re being serious, but she finds herself thinking about the idea every single day at random times
She sees families together as the two of you are out and she can’t help but imagine what you and hers would look like
A couple weeks later she brings it up again as the two of you are getting ready for bed
“Do you really want to have a baby with me?” Billie asks causing you to pause what you were doing
You reassure her that you were serious
“Then let’s have a baby, (Y/N)”
“Really?!”
“Really,” she says smiling softly.
Lana Winters
Lana isn’t big on kids
And especially on her being the one to carry the child after everything with Thredson
She wouldn’t tell you no, but she would want to have a long conversation about it
“Oh, ok. Well, let’s sit and talk about it”
She thinks you would be a great parent, but she’s worried about herself
With her it would be a series of serious conversations
Ultimately she’d agree to have a kid with you after you both talk everything through
Cordelia Goode
Starts crying
But in a good way
Pulling you close and hugging you tightly in an almost bone crushing hug
“I would love to have a baby with you, dear”
Would immediately get to work trying to find a way for you and her to have a baby whether it be magically or not
“You know we don’t have to start on this right away?”
“I’m not waiting a second longer!”
And off the Supreme goes, searching through every book in the house
Bette and Dot Tattler
Bette would be super excited
“Of course we want a baby with you!”
Dot is calmer with her approval of it
Instead she smiles and squeezes your hand
“We’d love to have a baby with you, darling”
Bette would insist that they start reading baby books even before anyone is pregnant
Dot pretends to be annoyed by this, but she is secretly completely on board with the idea
Your girls are so sweet and excited by the idea
Sally McKenna
Angst? Angst.
Most likely would laugh in your face
“Oh wait you’re being serious?”
Seeing that you’re not kidding, she softens a bit
“Babe, I don’t think that’s possible”
Tears start to fall down your cheeks and Sally pulls you into her embrace
Hugging you long into the night
“I’m so sorry”
Audrey Tindall
Audrey likes kids within reason
She loves babies when they are not crying
And when they have clean diapers
And when they aren’t making messes
“Promise me I won’t have to change any smelly diapers”
“We can talk about that later, love”
“No I want it in writing”
“Maybe”
“(Y/N), I’m serious”
Audrey pouting
You kissing away her pout
“We’re having a baby!”
This causes Audrey to smile and forget about the thoughts of stinky diapers for now
Ally Mayfair Richards
Ally loves being a mother and she loves the thought of having a child with you
The only problem is that Ally is extremely busy with her career
So the two of you have to wait until the timing is right
The two of you often talk about the idea
Planning for the perfect timing to add another addition to the family
When Ally gets stressed with everything going on in her life, she likes to think about her future with you, Oz, and you and hers future child
Thinking about such a happy future calms her down
When the time comes, Ally and you have every detail planned down to a tee
Wilhemina Venable
Wilhemina stays silent once you’ve told her
“Mina?” you ask breaking her silence
She looks up at you and you see tears falling
You carefully reach up and wipe away her tears, “Are you alright? I didn’t mean to upset you.”
“You didn’t upset me, my dear,” she says before softly smiling at you, “I just never thought anyone would want to start a family with me.”
You embrace the woman reassuring her, “I would love to start a family with you.”
“Then let’s do it, my dear,” she says hugging you back tightly
Alice Macray
Alice loves the idea
She loves being a mother and she loves the idea of the two of you having a child together
She is super excited when you suggest it
“Let’s do it right now!”
You chuckle, “Well, it’ll take some planning, but we can start planning now”
Every night, Alice has you read to her everything that the two of you can get your hands on about the process until the day comes
“Alice honey we’ve already read this one”
“What if we missed something! Let’s read it again”
You kiss her forehead before beginning to read to her
Harriet Hayes
You wait to talk about the idea of starting a family with Harriet until after she has stopped working on Studio 60
Harriet was still working but was working on different projects that gave her more time at home
Now finally seemed to be the time for you two to start a family
You bring of the idea over dinner one night
If you had suggested this years ago, Harriet would have been opposed
But now it seemed like you and her were finally in the perfect spot to start a family
She loved the idea
You and her were financially sound, she wasn’t working nearly as much as she used to be, and she was ready to start a family with you
The two of you began looking at your options that night
Mildred Ratched
Mildred never really pictured herself as a mother
She never even pictured herself settling down with someone since she has always been focused on her brother
So she wasn’t opposed to the idea, but it took her a bit of time to process it
You reassure her that she would be a lovely mother
And that you would have each other to support each other every step of the way
Ultimately the idea of having a family with you has her crying happy tears and covering your face in kisses

Harriet x Amanda #22
Tumblr media Tumblr media
22. Does their work ever interfere with the relationship?
ALL THE TIME.
Honestly, Harriet’s schedule alone is enough to keep them apart, but Amanda is constantly pulled back to her shelter and forced to stay in one place with all of her responsibilities.
But no matter how hard she works during the day, she always goes to the show on Friday night, and always makes sure she’s rested enough to attend the after party.
When they first met, their schedules were a bit more flexible, Harriet available almost every weekend and Amanda’s new shelter just budding.
That was one of the perks of working on Studio 60 — as crazy as the days were, there was still a conventional weekend.
And while Amanda was working her ass off growing her new business, she hired a nice weekend staff up front and made certain to give herself at least one day off.
That one day off was always spent with Harriet.
Usually in bed.
Things got more complicated when Harriet started getting movies, and of course, because the universe never tends to be easy, that was right when Amanda’s shelter started gaining traction.
She had known that moving to Hollywood would be a good business move, what with all of the celebrities who were constantly looking for companions. But three shelters and two expansions later, and Amanda barely had a free minute, let alone an hour or a day.
Harriet was constantly on a plane, jumping from one set to another, sometimes clear across the ocean.
And the further they got into their relationship, the more careless they got with their time.
They could go months without seeing each other, and honestly, they were both so tied up in work that they barely noticed.
Not even when they crashed in separate beds at the end of the night, because they were both so exhausted from the day.
It used to be that they would call each other once a day, if only to leave a message. Then it devolved into a text a day. And then again when Amanda stopped picking up Harriet at the airport.
It wasn’t that they didn’t love each other.
They absolutely did.
But both women were independent and determined, and they made it work, trying their hardest not to stunt the other’s happiness.
There was one night, one night where Amanda just happened to finish work early enough to meet Harriet at the airport.
And when Harriet walked out of the gate, beaten down and exhausted and hands full of too many bags, Amanda was right there, wrapping her in a tight hug.
They had both cried, the weight and stress of not seeing each other finally lifting as they relished the comfort of the other’s arms.
As they realized why they had fallen in love in the first place.
There were millions of apologies whispered that night, into the darkness.
And they collectively agreed, without even really discussing it, that they had missed this closeness.
They promised each other, bodies sweaty and pressed against one another, that they would both do better. Try better.
No blame was placed, no argument was had. Just the realization that they were wasting time working, when all they really wanted was each other.
After that, their priorities straightened out, and Amanda hired two new girls to run her shelters.
Which left her with plenty of time to spend with Harriet, traveling the world with her whenever it was needed, and finally being able to fall into bed with her every single night.

— chasing stars
summary: you’ve fallen madly in love with your best friend, harriet. although when she takes you to her press conference for her new movie, things don’t go as planned.
pairing: harriet hayes x reader
word count: 1700
warning: homophobia, internalized homophobia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Being Harriet's best friend isn't always easy for you. When you first came out to her, she supported you, she didn't agree with it but she supported you. It was terrifying to do so because Harriet has been your best friend for god knows how long, she helped you through so many things in your life and at this point, you don't think you could even live without having her in your life.
But being in love with her was a whole different story.
You've always pushed those feelings for your best friend away thinking maybe it was just a passing thing or maybe if you ignored them then they would just go away but they never did. So you always just sucked it up. When she calls you, asking you to help her get ready for date with another guy, you rush right over and help although deep in your heart you secretly wish that she was getting ready for a date with you.
But the thing is, when you came out to her, all the questions that she would get about her opinion on homosexual relationships, she would ignore them, act like she wasn't asked that. You knew it was most likely because she had loved you that much that she didn't want to tell the whole world it was a sin and lose her best friend but apart of you hoped for a different answer.
"How do i look?" You stood behind her, both looking it the mirror as she finished patting down her dress. "Beautiful" you could write a whole novel on just how beautiful Hannah Harriet Hayes looks but you kept it simple. "Well i can say the same for you" she turned towards you, running her hands over the sides of your dress. A blush rose on your cheeks and you almost choked on absolutely nothing.
She was taking you to a press conference that she had to do and truth be told, you were terrified because you didn't want any of the press to ask if you were her date, you couldn't handle hearing her say that two letter word. But when Harriet asked you to go, how could you decline her offer. Whenever she asks you something, you do it like a fool.
Silence took over the room. You were staring into her brown eyes, her hands were on your sides and you thought that if this had lasted any longer than you would've caved in and kissed her. But then she shook her head like she was trying to wake herself up from a daydream. "We should get going" and luckily she had already began walking and didn't wait for you to answer because with this lump in your throat, your words would've came out inaudible.
When you both arrived, the press immediately hit you both with questions as you walked in. You weren't as famous as Harriet, you do one sketch a week on Studio 60 but of course they wanted to know who Harriet would be walking in with.
You ignored all of their questions just like Harriet told you too. Either way, everyone's voice and clicking of cameras went fuzzy when you felt Harriet tightly grab your hand. She had held your hand before but this just felt different. You almost froze for a moment and Harriet looked back at you, mouthing an "are you okay" with a worried face and when your nodded, you both continued to walk into the building, away from the crowd.
"Are you sure you're okay, your face looks like it's burning up sweetheart" you cleared your throat "I'm fine it's just hot in here" she smiled at you albeit she clearly didn't believe you but brushed it off anyways.
You both took your seat in the crowd and waited for them to start. You could tell Harriet was getting a little nervous so you decided to be bold and grab her hand. You held your breath until she smiled at you, you were scared that she would be uncomfortable with you being the one to hold her hand considering her beliefs.
"You're gonna do great" you whispered as the host began to speak. She took a moment to observe every inch of your face with that little smile before she spoke "i'm glad you're here with me" and she gave your hand a squeeze.
Your heart clenched, if only she knew what that meant to you. But you couldn't even over think about everything that has happened tonight; all the long stares into each other's eyes or the hand holds and kind words and even the fact that she brought you tonight instead of some guy, before she was getting called on stage.
"You got this" You said, loud enough for only Harriet to hear but it was almost like you were saying it to yourself. You couldn't take your eyes off that blonde, as she walked on stage and the way her dress would sway with each of her movements, you weren't paying attention to all of the other people in the crowd, only Harriet, it was always only Harriet.
You missed having Harriet hold your hand, sitting right beside you and having her body warmth mix with yours but now, you get a chance to stare at her so dreamily without seeming like a weirdo.
And throughout the entire thing, you listened to her sweet voice and how perfectly and on point she answers the questions. That was until the very last question.
"Harriet, how do you feel about homosexual relationships" the reporter asked. She took a moment before answering, the room was dead silent and you were sure that everyone could hear your heart beating like crazy. You wiped your sweaty palms on the side of your leg and took a deep breath.
"I think it's a sin" she said. You could actually feel your heart tore into a million pieces right there. "I don’t think it’s right to marry someone the same gender as you." The look of regret of her face as she found your flushed face in the crowd, as she was met with your glassy eyes, the look was unforgettable, you were sure it was going to be engraved in your brain.
You couldn't sit here, you had to get out, you needed air. So, you quickly ran out of the building with your head down low so no one would suspect a thing.
How could you be so stupid, so stupid to think you actually had a chance with Harriet. All those nights where she held you in her arm when you came over for a movie night or when she just stared into your eyes and tucked your hair behind your ear, that was just all a friendly gesture.
You leaned against the back of the brick building, for once there wasn't paparazzi crowding the area so you finally allowed your face to fall into your hands as your sobs took ahold of you. You felt so foolish that you allowed Harriet to squirm her way into your heart like this. Harriet would always hold you whenever you were upset, now you were just alone. It was all just a game of jenga; it was fun and games until it everything just collapsed.
"Y/n" You could hear Harriet's voice call out to you but you couldn't respond. You couldn't do anything but sob like a child who didn't get the toy they wanted. "Y/n please" her voice was much closer this time, she sounded so desperate to get to you but why should you give her the time of day.
"I'm so sorry" she was crying. You hated her for crying, she shouldn't get to cry over this. But even still, you couldn't hate Harriet herself and you wondered what it would've been like if you got to her before that bible saying did.
"Leave me alone Harriet" your voice was so cold and you began walking away from her but your could hear her footsteps following behind you. "Y/n talk to me please." You didn't want to yell at Harriet, even after what she said but you couldn't help it. "Harriet, I said leave me alone!" You stopped to turn around. You were sure that everyone in the building could've heard.
You paused to look up at her. You never seen her look so upset, so taken back in your life and still, it broke your heart. Everything she did was slowly breaking your heart. "I didn't mean what i said" she said, slowly and hesitantly moving closer to you.
That loving, dreamy look that you always gave her was gone, it was just cold and emotionless. "It slipped off your tongue pretty fucking easy huh?" she gulped "i didn't know what else to say" you scoffed and shook your head in utter disbelief before you began to walk away from her. It was over, you couldn't recover from that.
"Wait" She said but you didn't stop "I said it to cover up" that stopped you albeit you didn't turn around and allow her to see just how much she got to you. "I love you and i'm scared of that" in all honesty, you didn't even know how to react to that. You loved her and hearing those words come out of her mouth did certainly make your heart feel fuzzy but you couldn't get passed what she had said.
So, you turnt around just like she wanted you to. She looked scared, scared that she messed everything up, scared that somehow you wouldn't accept her even though deep down she knew you would and that there was no possible way that you couldn't. "Harry-" you said, watching tears began to heavily stream down her face "i'm sorry but i can't live this lie anymore" she said, looking down and wrapping her arms around herself as if that was some way to escape from this situation, way to escape from this world.
"Don't be sorry for that Harry" you began walking closer to her again "look at me" she didn't react but you were sure that she just couldn't hear you over her sobs, so, you gently grabbed her chin, moving her head up so you were face to face "do not be sorry" you repeated, making your words clear so she could fully understand you and get that in her head.
The confused face on why you weren't mad that she just admitted her feelings to you was clearly visible so you wouldn't let her wait any longer "i love you" her face softened "i've loved you for so long" you cupped her cheek, slowly wiping away the tear stains on her face "can i kiss you?" Her words were stuck in her throat so all she could do was nod before she felt your lips collide with her own.
It was everything you had dreamed of. You couldn't even feel the ground beneath your feet anymore, you felt weightless, you felt like you were flying way up into the clouds with your one true love, your soulmate, Hannah Harriet Hayes.
"I love you so much, my love" you said against her lips. Neither of you cared that the paparazzi was slowly gathering closer to the both of you "i love you too y/n, i always will."

The Distance Between You & I- Harriet x Matt
Words: 2,361
Warnings: Unplanned Pregnancy, Light Angst, Language
Tumblr media
It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
Hannah Harriet Hayes always had a plan, a strict plan, especially when it came to starting a family. She had run through the scenario many times. It was Matt’s, of course; it had always been Matt’s. There was never a scenario where it wasn’t Matt’s, even when the two were broken up yet again, even when she was with another man. It was always Matt’s. The two of them would be perched on the tub, happily married, together, waiting for the second line to appear with bated breath. They would be overjoyed, after all, they always wanted kids. Matt would grin and hug her tightly, swinging her around in that way he always did when he was excited. The cast would be ecstatic and supportive when they broke the news, and Matt would make a sly joke about how there was no way their child was going to grow up to be a “jesus freak”, causing Harriet to smack his arm playfully. The two would bicker back and forth like they always did, the playful banter that had become the hallmark of their relationship, their very own love language. Harriet had a plan, he was supposed to be there, they were supposed to be in love, but people plan and god laughs, and boy, was he laughing now.
It wasn’t like the two hadn’t tried to make it work, they really did. But one bad pull quote from a terrible interview was enough to put them on the rocks, and soon they were shipwrecked. The banter turned to bickering, which turned to some not so subtle jabs, and then an all-out brawl in Matt’s office. Matt was the one who pulled the plug, after they had gone six rounds in the span of three hours. Then, Harriet collected her belongings from his house and the two barely even spoke, dancing around each other in cast meetings and rehearsals. All it took was one date with Luke and a few too many drinks at an after party for the two to end up having drunk, angry sex in the tech room, and then it was like it never even happened. Matt didn’t speak another word about it, the two never talked, he just gave the cold shoulder like he so often did, and the two did the dance that had become all too familiar, tiptoeing around residual feelings and unspoken words.
Harriet had tried to move on, but six weeks later something just wasn’t right. What she thought was the stomach flu turned out to be something else entirely, and there she sat, taking a pregnancy test in Jordan’s bathroom, alone, listening to the executive soothe a crying Rebecca back to sleep. Harriet had always been meticulous about taking her birth control. She didn’t like surprises and she certainly didn’t like being blindsided. Being unwed and knocked up would certainly put a stain on her good Christian reputation. But after the blowout, she really didn’t see the point. It wasn’t like she was having sex, even when she was with Luke the two never really seemed to be together, and truthfully Harriet always had one foot out the door. It just wasn’t right, he wasn’t him, and Harriet would be a fool if she denied the fact that she knew her person would always be Matt. So, when the second line came through clear as day, it had to be Matt’s.
Jordan could barely keep the grin off her face when Harriet broke the news. Rebecca wasn’t even six months old, the two babies would only be about a year apart, a built in best friend. Still, she was there with tissues when Harriet cried, offering reassuring words. No matter what has happened, you two are a team. You’ve always been a team. Her words were true, despite the numerous breakups and fights and religious differences they still remained each other’s biggest supporters. Harriet was still the only person who could draw Matt out of a writing rut, and Matt continued to throw her the ball every chance he could, not only bringing the show’s ratings up to rival SNL but cementing Harriet’s A-list status in Hollywood. The two worked well together, and right then that was the only thing that was keeping Harriet from losing her damn mind.
Still, the two could barely keep a relationship going for longer than six months. They spent more time pining for each other than they did in each other’s arms, and that was enough to make her heave into the bowl once again. What if they weren’t in love? What if they were both just in love with the idea of being in love? It seemed like they were made for each other, that once in a lifetime kind of love that you saw in movies, the kind that was filled with passion and excitement, the kind where your partner made you want to kiss them and rip out your own hair at the roots. That dizzy, intoxicating love. But intoxication was still toxic, no matter how right it felt in the moment, you still had to deal with the hangover, the blaring reminder that it was truly harmful in the long run. Harriet tried, but she never seemed to learn her lesson, and now they had much more to deal with than just a couple of broken hearts.
She went home early that day, feigning some vague illness in order to ward of suspicion. She just needed time to think, to figure things out. Knowing Matt would be there regardless should have been a huge relief, but all it did was turn her stomach into knots. They were always so hot and cold, so off and on. When they were on, it was great, but it seemed like it only took one small thing, one miscommunication and they were at each other’s throats, hurling insults like it was their favorite sport, not caring the damage they did. They were childish and immature, maybe a little overdramatic. Harriet had spent a majority of her childhood trying to diffuse the tension between her own parents, and she would die before she did that to her own child. But did she have a choice?
Why the hell can’t you two get it together?
The issue was, Harriet did believe they could make it work, if only they had the willpower to stop with these stupid games. They were both at fault, both too stubborn to see their own errors. Harriet hated that she still held hope, that she still was lost in that fairytale land of commitment and honesty. A part of her believed that this, this baby, their baby, could be the missing link, the thing that finally forced them to grow the hell up and put away their own selfish need to always be right. But that wasn’t fair to put on a child, none of this was fair to put on a child. A child should have a happy home, with parents who can at least be civil with each other, and Harriet wasn’t even sure they would be able to do that.
It didn’t help that Matt hadn’t stopped texting her from the moment she left. Are you ok? Do you need me to take you to the doctor? Do you need anything? Her brain was telling her to ignore it, that all it was doing was clouding her judgement. She had been swaying back and forth between making it work and cutting the relationship off completely all day, and each concerned text just made her want to leap into his arms and stay there forever. She had to be rational, she had to think this through, because it wasn’t just about her anymore.
She paced back and forth, wringing her hands as she tried to muster up the courage to reply. She couldn’t put this off, someone was bound to notice sooner rather than later, and Harri had never been a very good liar. She maybe had until the end of the night before Jordan spilled the beans to Danny, and that was being generous. She had to tell him tonight, she just didn’t know if she could. It wasn’t like Matt was a bad guy, he was a great guy, that’s what made all of this so infuriating. Sure, he was a complete jackass sometimes. But when it came down to it he was a really good guy, the best guy, the kind you could depend on, and that made it all so much scarier, because Harriet knew he would be there. But it was too late to worry about that, so with shakey hands, she sent the text.
I need you to come over tonight. We need to talk.
Then, she panicked, not wanting him to read too much into it and rush over.
About the show.
Matt, of course, had a wise ass remark on the tip of his tongue the second she opened the door. “Harri, I told you, you don’t need to rework your Nancy Grace impression. Her voice hasn’t changed in 20 years.” Matt said as he walked through the door. He always liked to act like his coming over was a hassle, yet he responded to her beck and call without hesitation. As much as he tried to keep up his macho persona, he was totally and completely whipped, and they both knew it. He never would say no to her, he never could say no to her. When she needed him, he was there, he would always be there.
Harriet threw him a look, “I didn’t call you over here to talk about Nancy Grace, genius.”
Matt gave a knowing smirk, “I knew that. I just thought we should get the theatrics out of the way before we get into the real reason.” Matt watched Harriet worry her bottom lip between her teeth, knowing her well enough to sense that whatever she called him over for was important. “What, is this about the note I gave earlier? Look, I’m sorry if I embarrassed you in front of Simon and Tom but you know I can’t give you special treatment. The guys have already started calling me a pansy ass.”
“It’s not about the note.” Harriet said quickly, looking up at Matt with wide, scared eyes. This was supposed to be simple, easy, and it would be if Matt would just stop talking. She felt tears prickle behind her eyes, silently cursing herself and the damn hormones that had already seemed to have her in their grasp. She was confident five minutes ago, but staring at the object of her affections was enough to make her go weak in the knees and have the panic completely consume her. As soon as a tear escaped and she moved to wipe it away Matt was all over her, he hated to see her cry. A gentle hand on her shoulder and she was done for, burrowing into his arms and crying into his chest as he tangled his hand in her hair and held her tightly.
“Harri, what is it? You’re scaring me.” Matt said, his macho persona quickly dissolving, his eyes filling will concern once she looked up at him with smudged makeup and running mascara, “You know you can talk to me.”
“I’m pregnant.” Harriet blurted, sucking in a sharp breath before burrowing back into his chest, scared to see his reaction.
It was silent, too silent, unnerving. Harriet braced to defend herself, to tell him that she hadn’t gotten into this mess by herself, that they both were equally responsible for this shit show, but then Matt laughed, “Maybe there is a god.” And oh, if looks could kill, the daggers Harriet was shooting out of her chocolate brown irises would have slit his throat, but he just grinned down at her, and suddenly, she didn’t know if the tears running down her face were from joy or frustration, or maybe the wind had shifted direction. He grabbed her by the shoulders, studying her face for a moment with his brows furrowed, “Why are you crying? Harri… this is great!”
“Why am I crying?” Harriet asked indignantly, huffing as she wiped the snot that was dripping down her top lip with the back of her hand. “I’m crying because we’ve barely spoken in months! We aren’t married, we aren’t even together and…” Harriet ranted, only to be cut off by Matt’s lips on hers, instantly melting under his touch.
He was good, too good. He always knew just what to say and do to make Harriet’s head spin and send the butterflies in her stomach swirling about. He pulled back, holding her face between his hands softly, forcing her to look him in the eye. “Harriet, I’m here. I’m yours. I’ve always been yours.” He said earnestly, waiting for her to nod before breaking into a grin, “I’m going to be a dad!” Before Harriet could even blink, he looped his strong arms around her waist and swung her around, not stopping until he could hear her soft giggles, “God, I love you.”
“I love you too.” Harriet said, giving a soft smile as she wiped at her wet cheeks.
“Why are you still crying? We’re going to have a baby!” Matt practically yelled, his excitement so palpable Harriet wondered how his cheeks hadn’t started to hurt.
“I know, I know. I don’t even know why I’m crying. I was just… scared.” Harriet admitted, ducking her head. The fear still lingered in the back of her mind, but it wasn’t the right moment for that, not when everything seemed so good.
“That I would be upset?” Matt asked, the hurt behind his eyes obvious.
“No! No… I knew that you weren’t going to be upset.” Harriet said quickly, “I just thought you would have made at least one wise ass comment by now about not knowing if it was yours.”
“It’s mine.” Matt said confidently, a condescending grin plastered on his face, “I know it’s mine.”
Harriet playfully smacked his arm with a grimace, “You’re so damn cocky.”

Save Writing NSW
An open letter to Create NSW and the NSW Minister for the Arts
We, as writers and active members of the literary community, were dismayed by Create NSW’s decision not to grant Writing NSW Multi-Year Organisations Funding in their latest round, despite the fact that Writing NSW was recommended for funding.
This decision demonstrates the ongoing devaluation of literature within the Australian arts funding landscape. We know literature is the most popular artform in the country, with 87% of Australian reading some form of literary work in any given year, yet in this round Create NSW offered only 5.7% of their ongoing funding to literature organisations.
The decision to defund Writing NSW carries a particular sting. Writing NSW is the leading organisation representing writers in a state with a long literary history and one that is home to many of Australia’s leading publishers, writers, literary agents and other core participants in the Australian literary industry.
Writing NSW is an important stepping-stone for writers at the beginning of their careers, providing high quality professional development programs, and it also employs emerging and established writers to deliver and lead these programs. For decades the organisation has provided high-quality courses, seminars, workshops, festivals, events, grants and literary prizes. In putting such programs at risk, Create NSW is jeopardising both an entry point and an ongoing support system for writers.
Macquarie University research shows that the average income of an Australian author from their practice is $12,900. The current economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic makes the situation of writers even more precarious. Writing NSW offers key employment opportunities to writers, through teaching, publication, speaking engagements and both curatorial and judging positions. The removal of these opportunities will mean many writers will not be able to maintain the other income streams that support their writing careers.
The removal of $175,000 from a single source would be catastrophic for any business – not-for-profit or otherwise. For a government funding body to enact such a blunt economic withdrawal in the midst of a global pandemic and without concern for the economic flow-on effect to hundreds of industry professionals is deeply distressing.
We call on Create NSW to reverse this decision and ask them to reveal their future strategies for arts funding and how they plan to rectify the disparity in funding between other funded artforms and literature.
As writers, we will never accept the loss of a vibrant, essential cultural network such as Writing NSW.
What you can do We invite anyone affected by Create NSW’s decision – writers, publishers, literary agents, illustrators, readers alike – to co-sign this letter. You can copy and customise this letter to draft a version from your own point of view on this matter to send to a Member of Parliament.

I hope you guys like this one :)

Harriet Hayes
You’re one of the new writers hired to work on Studio 60 fresh out of college
Studio 60 is your first big job
In your first few months, you don't interact with Harriet much
You spend most of the time in the writer's room and your tiny closet of an office
During this time you do make a name for yourself around the studio for being a hell of a writer
Most of your sketches making it into the show every week
And the best ones star a certain blonde actress
Harriet is your muse and writing for her is some of your best work
After weeks upon weeks of you writing hit after hit for the woman, she finally goes to Matthew and Danny and asks who's writing all of this great material
She expected them to say it was Matthew, but instead, they say it's you
Matthew gestures over to where you're sitting in a spare area writing on a notepad
(Sometimes you like to get out of your cramped office and write wherever you can find a free space)
"(Y/N), she's one of our newest writers and surprisingly almost always gets a great sketch into the show. I think she might have a crush on you or at least your talent"
Matthew winks at the woman and Harriet looks over at you
"Well, I must go meet my new favorite writer," Harriet says smiling before making her way over to you
"Hey! What about me?" Matthew calls after her
"You've been replaced!"
You look up as Harriet sits down in front of you, shocked that she’s even paying attention to you
It’s not that she’s ever been rude to you, but usually the cast doesn’t interact with new writers that much
“Hi, Ms. Hayes,” you say nervously
“Oh please, (Y/N), call me Harriet,” she says smiling brightly at you causing you to blush
She adds “I thought I should meet the writer who’s giving me such amazing material to work with this season”
“It’s an honor to meet you, Harriet”
The two of you chat about your writing and careers
You end talking for almost two hours before one of the other cast members has to grab Harriet to go work on something
Once Harriet leaves your kind of in awe
The awe keeps coming when later in the night you’ve finally gone back to your office and there’s a knock on your door
You reach over and open it (because, yes your office is that small) to reveal Harriet standing there
“So, this is where the magic happens?”
“Until I get too cramped and move to right somewhere else,” you say making her giggle
“I was wondering if you wanted to finish writing for the day and go get some dinner?”
She bites her bottom lip as she waits for your response
“Is Harriet Hayes asking me out on a date?”
She smiles
“If you want it to be then, yes”
And that’s how you land your first date with Harriet Hayes
The date goes really well
The two of you go to some bar near the studio
You learn more about the woman and she loves getting to know you as well
This time there are no interruptions, so you and Harriet talk for hours until it gets so late that you and her should probably call it a night
Before the two of you part ways, Harriet gives you a kiss on the cheek
Unknown to the two of you, someone with the press got pictures of you and Harriet’s date
They are released the next day, but you don’t even notice
Harriet’s manager tells her about the pictures circulating and she just shrugs it off
That same day Harriet knocks on your office door around noon holding a takeout bag
“I thought you might be in need of a lunch break,” she says gesturing to the food she’s carrying
You had been working so hard that you hadn’t even noticed what time it was
The two of you eat lunch in her dressing room
Harriet totally asked around to see what she should get for lunch for you and her because she didn’t know what you liked
Harriet doesn’t bring up the pictures of you and her circulating because you didn’t seem to have noticed and she didn’t want to make it awkward
For the next two weeks, Harriet finds excuses to come find you
Sometimes it’s coffee in the morning
Takeout bags filled with lunch
Or she catches you at the end of the day and invites you to dinner or drinks
At show’s after-party, she even spends most of her time with you
Pulling you out onto the dance floor
Wrapping an arm around your waist
The two of you haven’t really put a label on what you and Harriet are, but everyone around you and her thinks you’re a couple
Harriet gives you kisses on the cheek
Hugs you whenever she sees you
And always makes time to see you
Some nights she even kisses you on the lips before the two of you part ways
Finally after two weeks of whatever is going on between you and Harry, at the after-party you and Harriet are sitting at a table in a quieter part of the club and she has her hand resting on your thigh
“Harry, what are you and me?”
“What do you mean?”
“Are you my girlfriend?”
Harriet chuckles and smiles at you, “Do you want to be my girlfriend?”
“Um, hell yes”
This causes the blonde to smile even wider
“Then, yes, I’m your girlfriend”
Harriet leans in and kisses you, not caring if anyone sees
Not that the two of you are officially girlfriends, Harriet finds even more excuses to see you
Most nights she also invites you back to her place
She drops by your office sometimes just to see how you’re doing and gives you a kiss
You give her a good luck kiss before every show even though you know she’s going to do great
The two of you don’t confirm you’re relationship until Harriet says something in an interview
The two of you haven’t been hiding your relationship, but you and her also didn’t comment on it to the tabloids
You and Harriet are an acting/writing duo to be reckoned with
You end up moving in with Harriet during the shows summer break
Sometimes you try to write while your home with Harriet and Harriet is awful about distracting you
She just wants you to pay attention to her and she’s adorable
“Harry, do you want me to finish this sketch or not?”
“That depends. Will you give me kisses afterward?”
“Yes”
“Then fine”
She sits quietly by you as you finish it
She loves watching you work
Harry thinks the face you make while you’re concentrating is adorable
One night, after a couple years of dating, Harriet leans up in bed and asks “Am I still your muse?”
You smile and kiss the woman
“Hannah Harriet Hayes, you will always be my muse.”

Reason #7819175392 why I love Studio 60:
Danny: How is it no one’s ever hit you in the head with a potato?
Harriet: I duck and weave, baby.

Have a little faith in me, part 1 | Matt x Harriet (Studio 60)
author’s note: i’m back at it again with the matt x harriet bs. it’s extremely easy (and very enjoyable) for me to write these two currently, so i’m taking advantage of that. this is a two part drabble and it’s again about matt and harriet’s tumultuous relationship and the chaos that comes along with it. the word count is 683. thanks for reading!

"Have you seen Harry?"
It started eight weeks earlier. Emotions had been hot and heavy after a heated fight on set. Somehow the fight had led to sex. Matt had a particular way of getting a taste of what he wanted and backing away. It always seemed so easy for him to blame it on work or business, but Matt always had his reasons - even if he couldn't admit them to himself.
As usual, Harriet would always be pleasantly surprised each time Matt kissed her or held her or slept with her. She viewed his spontaneity as a bold and romantic gesture but felt the disappointment deep inside her each time Matt wouldn't follow through. One kiss and Harriet would be sure that everything would change. Sure, Harriet believed in angels and miracles, but didn't think she bought into the fairy tale concept of a Prince Charming - and even if she ever had, he would've been Matthew Albie. Even though they fought, disagreed on morals and ethics, and so many other things; she couldn't deny that she'd never quite loved someone the way she loved Matt. The disappointment had a way of leaving Harriet with a hollow feeling inside. He always seemed to act as if whatever monumental thing that happened between them, simply hadn't happened.
Harriet had been blatantly ignoring Matt for weeks. He hadn't even noticed at first, usually oblivious to her antics. Of course, Harriet could say that she too, had gotten absolutely swamped with work, but she hadn't. She hadn't received a heavier workload. By the time Matt realized it, he'd driven everyone crazy with questions and somehow most of the main cast of Studio 60 either figured it out on their own or found out from Harriet beforehand.
After their latest hookup, Harriet had gone home. Things felt different. Certainly, Matt couldn't disappoint her this time. Drunken kisses, hammered and giggly and sexy from the whiskey high - these two had a plan. Harriet had proclaimed her love; "I've never loved anyone more than I love you" and Matt's "Be Mrs. Albie already". She woke up the next morning with a headache the size of Texas and a heart full of love and promises. The days went on and the weeks carried on and with each day that passed, Matt acted more and more vacant - more and more negligent; but even Hannah Harriet Hayes couldn't predict what would come next.
She hadn't realized it or even entertained the thought when Tom Jeter walked in on her. The walls were thin and passing by at just the right now placed the man outside of Harriet's dressing room at the exact moment she'd retched into the trash can. In fact, she'd felt so poorly that letting Tom inside hadn't even worried her. "So, what is this about?" The blonde shrugged in response. "Flu?" No one really had a reason to not believe Harriet and even she couldn't come up with a comprehensive reason.
Until she'd rolled down the car window on Sunset, needing to pull over during insane traffic to vomit and if her calculations were correct - and they were always; she had a fantastic reason to panic. Not long after, Harriet found herself pacing outside Jordan McDeere's office, trying her very best to keep her breathing even. "You wanted to see me?" the dark-haired woman asked, peeking her head out the door. It didn't take Harriet very long to come inside, requiring all the privacy that she could get. The blonde stretched the sleeves of her sweater further down her arms, itching to stop feeling as self-conscious as she did. "What's going on? Is this about Matt?" she asked. "How did you-you know. Y'know?" Harriet asked, gesturing with her arm. "Know what?" Jordan asked, confusion on her face. "When did you -?" the blonde tried to ask again. "Harriet - I don't understand what you're asking me - you're going to have to be a little clearer." The blonde clasped her hands together. "I need to know how you realized you were pregnant," she finally stated. "Oh my God."

My main thoughts about the Harlots Season 2 finale:
I’m glad Fallon is dead, even though I think his death was far too merciful and in his favour but I guess It Just Be Like That for wealthy, corrupt aristos, they get to choose how they die, and the poor don’t.
I didn’t want Charlotte to become a bawd because I don’t think she is based on Charlotte Hayes and I don’t want her going down any route that closely resembles Hayes but....honestly, she seemed reluctant. Responsible but reluctant. Which is Charlotte all over, really.
Spartan plot isn’t over. Unfortunately. I thought we could maybe have some happiness in Season 3! Alas. If they show me a Lord Lidington death scene, I’ll forgive ‘em.
Honestly, I think Isabella’s plot is done and I hope her and her daughter can move to their nice house in St. James and never see Harcourt again. Isabella offered a nice perspective in a different area of Georgian life but she, like Lady Caroline Howard, should not become a permanent fixture of the show.
Charlotte actually snapping over Isabella’s comparably petty worries about her fortune WAS needed. Let’s not beat around the bush, Isabella is vastly more privileged than Charlotte and co. and can’t even begin to comprehend the vast chasm of differences between them. They share sex-related traumas, of course, and that’s potentially something we could say for many women, both then and now. But Isabella has more options in general. Charlotte, Fanny, Emily, Sukey, Hannah, Lucy etc. do not have that and probably never will.
I like Anne Pettifer but goodness gracious, Emily was right to rag on her snobbiness. Anne doesn’t do herself any favours by making herself an enemy to almost all the girls she comes across and outright refusing to see Lydia for what she is. Anne others herself from the girls because of her background. She suffers for it.
Well, now, I prefer Josiah Hunt to Charlie Quigley. Josiah has shown growth and improvement continually. Charlie has had a rollercoaster but he’s blotted his copybook for me far too many times.
Florence was told by God himself that Lydia was finally getting some sort of retribution and that bitch just pettily turned up at Bedlam to gloat via Bible versus and We Stan.
My hopes for Season 3:
I feel like the way this episode ended does set the show up for a Season 3 so I am putting all my hopes on that because honestly, I need more of these characters and this world and this social commentary.
Harriet, Nell and Noah should open their House of Exotics, and I’d like Violet to join them. Does Violet value her freedom? Yes. Does she know it’s not safe to be out on the streets all the time? Also yes.
JACOB NORTH. GIVE ME A FRANCIS BARBER STORYLINE. Mags didn’t want him to become some man’s boy, so let him be scouted by a Samuel Johnson-esque figure who gives him a gentleman’s education and makes him a wealthy activist. Let’s do that.
Lydia is not going to stay in Bedlam. Not while Harcourt is still living and breathing to toss her a line.
Emily Lacey Return to Greek Street Challenge
I think we’ll see Mags again but maybe not straight away. I do wish someone would tell Jacob she’s alive though.
I guess we won’t be getting the Charlotte Wells Becomes an Actress storyline I’ve been gunning for but even though I prayed she’d not become a bawd, I’m interested to see how that goes.
Maybe Lucy Wells Becomes an Actress Storyline should happen instead. Just get that poor child out of all this.
Nancy + love interest? Please
Cherry not being treated like shit? Please
