What I love the most about episode two of rwby beyond is that, DnD episode one actually, is the way people in world keep Oscar at the forefront. In stark contrast to the fallout of volume 6 where Qrow and Jaune are upset at Ozpin and take it out on Oscar (and then Jaune is immediately upset when Oscar is missing and ever since then has been shown to care deeply about him), everyone is showing great care for him. They can’t ignore the merge as is evident in both Oscar’s section of the epilogue as well as well as Ren’s message (You two), but how Neptune and Sun kept correcting each other and then Jaune making the distinction that it’s Ozpin who has the fairy tale connections.

Oscar struggles greatly with his sense of identity and now he’s gotten to the point where he sounds like Oz even when the man isn’t taking over for them. But the reminder that Oscar is his own person. That he’s not just another soul in the blob. The way his friends are keeping him alive even when he’s not in front of them. FRESH off of Ruby’s own identity crisis. Jaune saying he wishes he could forget his time as the rusted knight and is only now able to look back on the good times and feel positively about Alex and Lewis. The Sense of Self in this show as well as How Others See You. It’s lovely to see people treating Oscar as his own person during this time when he doesn’t know who he is. And even though he’s trying to comfort Jaune in this scene I think seeing someone older than him who’s also struggling, who feels out of place but is trying to include him, is good for him too.

I gotta say, I don't think it will have been a two year time skip. That just doesn't make sense to me.

What we see here is all stuff that could reasonably have happened in a couple months or so.

Plus, even with all the airships it looks... peaceful? In part because of the lighting, but also it just doesn't look like they're in the middle of a battle, you know? Sure it took time for Salem to plan her attack on Beacon, but that was back when she was still hiding, and before she had made this much progress. Her attacks on Haven and Atlas took time, too, but not years. I say this because I really don't think it would have taken more than 2 years for Salem to attack Vacuo, also taking into consideration that she has already sent Tyrian and Mercury there to scope things out and start working in the shadows, most likely.

Plus, narratively, we're due for a bit of a slow down. I know we can't just grind to a complete stop, but not only do the characters need a bit of a break, we need a bit of a break.

And finally, this shot is a symbol of hope.

The world is uniting. RWBYJ have made it back to Remnant, and their plan, Ruby's plan, worked.

She spent all of volume 9 thinking she had failed. Atlas fell, Salem has the lamp and the staff, Penny died and they all got separated. She was so focused on the negatives that she couldn't even consider the success of how many people they saved, the message they sent to the world.

This is her reminder.

Yes, things didn't go exactly according to plan, some people lost their lives along the way.

But ultimately, this plan worked.

What she thought was a failure, was actually just what they needed to unite humanity.

I don't think they're going to send that all crashing down by having them come back to something terrible, especially Ruby. (Like the merge being completed, or throwing them right back into the thick of it, or just shit immediately hitting the fan in general.)

This isn't foreboding. This is hopeful.

As I re-watch volume 7 of RWBY, it reminds me of my biggest "issue" with RWBY. Mainly that I wish we had more RWBY. Volume 7 is a pretty solid season with it being structured very well. But a lot of the plot threads and characters introduced could have been explored more if we had more episodes or perhaps even another volume set in Atlas.

So I have finally done it. After around a week of pain and coding in the lobster position I have finally done it. I have done something I don't think anyone else has done, or if they have I have never seen it.

Meet ValeClan.

All the cats are based on RWBY characters. If other cats come to the clan or if the cats have kits I will generate a RWBY and they will be added to the Clan. I will be sharing what happens to them each moon and I think it will be interesting.

Also I turned Summer Rose into their StarClan guide.

Couldn’t have asked for a better year than this for 2023

I love these two so much both individually and together it’s unreal and finally getting to see them say they love each other and become girlfriends was everything to me 💕

I think one of my favorite moments this year that I think about often was the reactions to bumbleby getting together. It’s a moment I’ll never forget because all the staff were getting excited when the episode was coming up with their confession and seeing all their reactions and how happy they were seeing the episode when they confessed was so sweet and everyone cheering and crying tears of joy in the bumbleby tag was such a beautiful moment that I look back on and smile because this was something we all looked forward to and a moment that was beautifully done by the show.

I do hope rwby gets a proper end in some way for the years to come, but I’ll always be thankful for the show for giving me bumbleby 🖤💛

A Fond Farewell

With Rooster Teeth beginning its draw down, an era has truly passed. The company has lasted more than two decades. 18 (soon 19) seasons, five mini-series, and cameos and references in Halo itself for Red vs Blue. 9 volumes alongside two movies, a chibi series, Ice Queendom, and its own games for RWBY. And so much more beyond that, RT Shorts, podcasts, Achievement Hunter, The Slow Mo Guys, and on and on. That’s a lot, especially for a little startup launching off a web series. I was listening to “This Isn’t Goodbye, It’s See You Later” by Richie Branson while I was making this little memorial post. It’s a song made for another Rooster Teeth show, Camp Camp, and I have to say it’s some very appropriate music for this moment.

The day the news dropped, I wrote up a little comment in response to Rooster Teeth beginning its closing down, and I thought I’d share some of it here. I grew up with Rooster Teeth, a bit of a cheesy line I know, but it’s true for a lot of us. I was just a little kid way back in the early 2000’s, a kid that liked Halo (a game I didn’t even own for a long time, but played at a friend’s house), and was just getting curious about what I could find about it on YouTube. And that brought me into the world of music videos and skits and montages made for that little game I liked.

From there, I discovered a small web series called Red vs. Blue. I’d sneak onto my folk’s computer to watch it since they didn’t appreciate the language, and in doing so I dipped my toes into the wide world of the internet for the first time. As I got older, I eventually hopped onto Reddit for its discussion threads of Rooster Teeth’s latest show, RWBY. I began my first in-depth fandom interactions, speculating about the show, enjoying the flood of fanart, even got into fanfics about RWBY (those fics have had their own amazing evolution alongside the show) and to this day it’s the fandom I’ve followed and bookmarked the most fics from. All the while I was making friends and bonding with people through the community this company and its shows have created.

Watching the shows and people grow over time was, looking back on it, just like watching myself grow. I was never really a social media/internet kind of guy, until it came to Rooster Teeth. The shows, shorts, podcasts, it all opened up a whole new world for me. It’s sad to see it coming to a close, and I hope it gets picked up in the future. But I’m happy, too, that it’s left so much behind, and had such an impact on me. It’s left me with so many good memories. Rooster Teeth, its shows, those that created and worked on it, and above all the community around it will always have a special place in my heart.

So, I bid a fond farewell to Rooster Teeth and its crew, and anyone who may drift away from the fandom in time. I wish you all the best.

I watched RWBY 9, Chapter 6 last night...and even though this song was intended for a happy moment, it had the opposite effect on me and hit me hard in the feels.
