Ciao! If you were to sing “Happy Birthday” in Italian, would it just be a translation of the English version or are the lyrics different? Grazie mille <3
Ciao!
The more famous version we have in Italian says
Tanti auguri a te
Tanti auguri a te
Tanti auguri (name of the person)
Tanti auguri a te!
Listen (because there's no specific person, also the 3rd line says "tanti auguri a te" in this sample, but we usually make it more personal by saying the name). Not always saying "caro/a" (the English "dear") before the name works for the rhythm so we don't always say it.
The other version uses "Buon compleanno" instead of "Tanti auguri" too (which is the more literal translation from English).
Buon compleanno a te
Buon compleanno a te
Buon compleanno (name of the person)
Buon compleanno a te!
There's also a funnier/joke version that we may occasionally use too (the rhythm is the same, we tend to keep it shorter and faster exactly -we may jump the 3rd line- cause it's a joke and... "I want the cake" lol):
Tanti auguri a te
Tanti auguri a te
E la torta a me! (= and the cake to me!)
It's bedtime! Which one of you knuckleheads is singing Happy Birthday, especially this close to front? Why are you singing happy birthday in the first place? Go sleep
