Genre: birthday fic, there is a tiny bit of angst due to the situation that is developing, but there is of course a happy resolution.

Summary: It’s Jongdae’s birthday and you wanted to throw a surprise party, but vendors have been cancelling and time is running out.

A/N: Hi! I didn’t intend to write this first since I am working on the Kyungsoo one-shot, but the idea came to mind and I had to write it down. It’s still the 21st here so Happy Birthday Jongdae!

“He won’t be upset, right?”

Minseok looked at you, but you couldn’t quite figure out what that look meant. It was getting too late already and no one had said anything to Jongdae or even looked at his texts.

“Yeah, okay, he totally would be upset, I’m not dumb! But once he sees all of that he will at least smile, yeah?”

“The fact that you are constantly trying to verify it speaks volumes. Look, Y/N, your intentions were good, but I’m afraid I would have to say I told you so,” Minseok shook his head.

You definitely hate a disappointed Minseok more than anything, but you know Jongdae will like this surprise. Somewhere deep inside you there’s still hope.

“Y/N! Y/N! Y/N! The neon lights came,” Baekhyun came running so fast that his heavy breathing was almost louder than his voice.

“See! We got some good news,” you exclaimed excitedly, but Minseok still wasn’t that amused.

Minseok couldn’t be mad for too long; he was also excited that at least something could be set for Jongdae’s surprise birthday party, but he did tell you to plan it with enough time. He knows that you’re busy too and that’s understandable, but a little more organization would have worked out this time.

“Y/N, Minseok hyung, are you here?” Junmyeon’s voice came from the other side of the door.

Kyungsoo opened it and you could see Junmyeon with a couple of boxes.

“Are those the lights?” Minseok asked.

Junmyeon shook his head and said, “Kyungsoo made some appetizers and I bought a cake.”

“Kyungsoo, I could kiss you right now,” you said as you looked at all of the food that he managed to make.

“Please don’t,” he said as he side-looked at you incredulously.

“I won’t, I won’t, don’t worry,” you giggled at his reaction.

“I would do so if you don’t mind, these look delicious,” Baekhyun commented once he helped set the food. Kyungsoo looked at him just the same way he had looked at you before.

“I bought the cake,” Junmyeon reiterated.

You looked at him, amused, and gave him a quick hug as a thank you. The five of you continued to help set the food when Sehun came in with the neon lights and a flower projector you hadn’t asked for, but it was Baekhyun who brought it. He had seen it for a music video that was being filmed in the building and stole it once they finished. It gave off the right vibe and surprisingly complemented the neon lights.

Once the lights were set, Chanyeol sent you a text asking if it was time to take Jongdae to the party. He had been asking him and Jongin to go for some drinks for the past twenty minutes, and he was running out of excuses.

You: I think you could, the party decorations are not coming and the catering reservation was denied.

Yeol: Then… should I? 🙊

You: You didn’t let me finish 🤣

Kyungsoo made appetizers and the neon lights did come

Oh and Junie is asking me to tell you that he bought a cake.

Yeol: Awesome! Go Exo! 🌟

We’ll take him for some drinks and I’ll buy some to take to the party

Minseok came close to where you were texting Chanyeol and surprised you, “sorry, Y/N.”

“It’s okay, I’m easily scared.”

“No, not about that. I’ve been pessimistic and haven’t even helped you at all. I’ll go get drinks for the party, and maybe some more food if we need it.”

“Oh, Minseok… you don’t need to apologize, I should have listened to you in the first place. Let’s go together! Chanyeol and Jongin will buy us some time.”

You informed Chanyeol about Minseok and you going to buy drinks and food, so you ended up deciding to split the money and buy all the drinks and extra food between the three of you and Jongin. In about twenty minutes, you had all you needed and went back to the party. Your eyes were watery when you saw how the room turned out with the help of everyone. They even managed to get a karaoke machine, but you decided not to ask how they did it. At least, it was good to know that the leader was there with them and couldn’t have let them steal something else.

Jongin texted you this time. You sent the number of the room, and all of you waited expectantly for them to arrive.

In about ten minutes, the door opened. It was Chanyeol signing you all to be quiet, so the expectations grew. Next, Jongin came in with Jongdae right behind him. Kyungsoo turned the projector on and Sehun turned the music volume up.

“Surprise!” All of you shouted when Jongdae walked in.

The look on his face calmed every anxious thought you had and you could finally smile easily. Jongdae was jumping up and down looking around at how beautiful the room looked. All of the members ran to hug him and you stayed back, marveling at the love all of them share and the happiness that sparkled in Jongdae’s eyes.

Jongdae thanked all of his members and looked at you as he walked closer. His smile was so wide that it warmed you up just to know he was happily oblivious to all of the hard work that was put into this surprise party. Every little bad thing was forgotten now, the present was all that you expected it to be and more.

“This was your doing, wasn’t it?” Jongdae asked.

“Everyone helped.”

“But you are the mastermind. You even get our leader to follow your orders. Thank you so much, Y/N! What would I do without you? What would any of us do?” He hugged you tight, and it didn’t seem he would let go any time soon.

“Happy birthday, Jongdae!”

I meant to not answer this ask for a few days now, because if I said who, Dandanies would have eaten me and tbh I'm not a big fan of most of them (not all).

Chanyeol, Xiumin, Jongdae all these three SM doesn't want them and they don't want it, but it's the Exo members staying Together that made it hard for SM to end their contracts because of constant warning from the other members whom SM want aka Jongin, Back, Ksoo, Sehun and Suho.

Also nothing will change just like I said many times, just what was supposed to happen back in March 13th 2019 is happening now. Ksoo wanted to leave since then and there's a long post here talking about the details as to why he wanted to leave.

Also nothing's gonna change! Baekhyun is leaving too. Sechan. Xiu might Join Baekhyun's company etc.. you'll see more surprises to come.

Also in our previous group on IG we talked a lot about how all of them members want to leave especially Chanyeol, Jongdae and Xiumin as they were sabotaged and ignored. For Ksoo's part he has a grudge against SM since 2019 for manipulating his private life and ruining it and overworking him by acception acting projects he didn't want and not let him do the singing part of his Job he enjoyed as well, because they were building him a career and an image as an actor only, Which he fought and this is why you're seeing him more and more now on TV shows and you're seeing him SINGING a lot recently.

So don't you see Ksoo broke free from his old boring and annoying Character SM built for him for 11 years?? Let him be happy do what he wants.

exo - exist review

i just wanna start by saying that this comeback is the highlight of my year already. i did have high expectations because after all, this is exo and their discography is easily at the top of the entire industry... and for groups that debuted over a decade ago they're one of the last still standing, so after a 4 year old hiatus the expectations were high to say the least. did they manage to meet them? let's find out!

the title track deserves a whole paragraph so:

cream soda - a high paced r&b pop song with a luscious instrumental and a collection of high notes that flex the strengths of the group. it definitely packs a punch and i think it would benefit from getting a slower intro but even so, the song doesn't disappoint. it kinda reminds me of a maroon 5 song during their golden years and i think it's the perfect balance of "grown men r&b" and playfulness (coupled with less than subtle sexual innuendos about popping like a soda bottle this is a great evolution for exo, who have been known to always make pussy popping music but have struggled to shed the high school boys image sm is so fixated on giving them). rating: 9/10

regret it - literally straight out of the pcy1 vault and you can't convince me otherwise. soooo happy to hear an r&b jam straight out of the 90s since that is literally exo's blueprint. i love the production on this track because it has enough elements to keep it interesting and the chorus is super catchy. chanyeol takes the crown for me for obvious biased reasons but i love kyungsoo and jongdae's runs in this. rating: 10/10

hear me out - sounds much better like this. like now i get 100% the reasoning behind this song and the style it has. it's really such a chill vibe and a welcome breather after the one two punch of the previous songs. i feel like the prechorus and post chorus of this song could have been amped up way more and a breakdown for the bridge would've made it ten times more fun tho. rating: 9/10

random observation i noticed: the resting silences between songs are a tad too short for my liking. we need to let this marinate and sometimes it does feel like the album is sprinting towards the end.

private party - chanyeol opening the song AS HE FUCKING SHOULD. this beat is nasty... it's the perfect combination of exo's r&b sultry side and a hot sexy beat to shake ass to. it's just fun and good and takes you on a sonic ride from start to finish. i did expect the weeknd vibes from the title alone but i'm glad with the result here. rating: 10/10

cinderella - oh marz. oh you.... i knew exactly what the beat drop was gonna sound like from the second the song started and i'm not mad about it! this is another old school r&b infused serenade song while giving it a fresh modern style with the synth arrangements. taking a point off just because the mixing is too compressed and the synth takes over the landscape in an overbearing way (happens all the time with flume too so i get it but i feel like this could've been prevented here). rating: 9/10

no makeup - okay so the whore music run of this album from private party to no makeup is insane. we get it. these men fuck. they made sure to let us know they're in their 30s and it was about DAMN time. that post that's like they melted their dick and balls into a flashdrive and fucked the console in the recording studio.... yeah. the background harmonies are TOP TIER too but i didn't expect anything less from exo. props to jongdae, minseok and chanyeol cause they were working overtime layering these vocals. rating: 10/10

love fool - deadass was expecting this to be the slower snoozefest of the album... but exo are intent on making every track off this album COUNT. this is such a classic exo jam... every element of this song works in their favor. great melody, great instrumentals, great topline, great chorus. this is PURE quintessential exo. rating: 10/10

another day - this is good song! a great song even. my notes for this one just say "good song. really like it" it's just not something that stuck out to me enough to analyze it further. i think that's fine. the layering of vocals is once again great. i don't love the topline specially for the chorus (feels super nct 127 past their peak) but it's still a good song. rating: 8/10

let me in - this is their boyz ii men serve of the year. perfect closer. perfect slow ballad and i'm not a fan of those in the first place. definitely the vocal highlight of the album. that's all i can say. exo did it once again kids. rating: 9/10
