How To Celebrate Your Dog At International Dog Day on August 26 2022
It’s almost time for International Dog Day again! This is one of our favorite annual celebrations, and there are lots of ways you can help make it the best yet. Adopting a dog from a shelter rather than buying one from a breeder is more important than ever, as millions of dogs wind up in shelters across the country each year. If you’ve been considering welcoming a new pup into your home, be sure…

HAPPY FIRST OF SEPTEMBER!
September is such a busy month for me, but also one of my favorites, since it was the first "full" month that we were open for back in 2021. That, and I really love Creek Fest. As we head into the fall season -- peep our new graphics -- we hope that you'll come along for the ride and enjoy everything that we have planned! xx
HAPPENING IN SEPTEMBER!
September 16 - 23 : CREEK FEST -- our annual fall festival is happening mid-September this year, and will feature live music, shopping, games and all of your favorite fall activities!
SEPTEMBER'S MINI-EVENTS!
September 1 -- world letter writing day : the kick-off to our task for the month.
September 1 -- football season kick-off : the first game of the varsity football season. schedule posted on the Times!
September 3 -- pet rock day : go to the library and design your very own pet rock!
September 21 -- first day of fall : and it happens during Creek Fest!
September 25 -- national lobster day : our second go 'round of celebrating lobster in town.
EXTRA BIT OF FUN!
This month, we are doing a fun writing-based task, in which you are to write an in-character letter as your character(s) to anyone they please. You can read more about this task right here! It can be done any time during the month of September, so please take your time. It is not mandatory and does not count towards activity. You are also encouraged to send in ideas for Creek Fest activities to the Benefactor (read more here).
IMPORTANT NOTES!
as usual, just be sure you are familiar with our rules!
gentle nudge: be fair with activity. if you play more than one character, keep them all equally active, and remember that your older replies will just keep getting older! we understand (and totally get!) muse and inspiration, but remember that in a group setting, we depend on each other for activity.
be sure to be kind to everyone in the group, especially OOC. I know that may seem silly, but reply to someone looking for plots, or just be kind to someone having a rough time in the OOC. make it a goal to not just be kind to your friends, but everyone!
speaking of the OOC blog, please talk to us when you need something, rather than relying on talk tags or OOC posts, and remember that if you need something from us as admins, to contact us here on main, rather than our accounts!
lastly, be careful with triggering content! as we mentioned earlier this month, keep an eye on our triggers page, use the "trigger tw" format, and be mindful of language used, OOC and IC.
BEHIND THE SCENES!
not a whole lot to report here! as we wind down the year, I'm working on game planning 2024 some more, making adjustments based on activity & participation, and seeing what shakes out!
for now, we are sticking with "checks at discretion" for the time being! two weeks, removal; one week, warning. if we see you are only logging in to do one or two replies, if you are not replying to starters, or if we notice bubbling, this will also resulting a warning. we'll be observing activity patterns and should we make changes to how things are done, will let you know October 1st.
oh! fun stuff coming up. we'll be doing another Shelter Appreciation Weekend, and have a fun masquerade type event planned for Halloween this year! plus the usual trick-or-treating stuff, if you want to wear a costume.
and that's honestly about it!
HAPPY SEPTEMBER, MERROCKITES!

There is nothing without purpose in this world. Everything has a purpose. Humans are the best creation, and each person is exclusive. Thus, writing about myself, I’m here to express myself in what I see, what I experience, and what I plan for my life. I try myself to be modest, passionate, devoted, hardworking, and honest.
I am Janna Joy Rasonable Adorna, residing at P4a Carangan, Ozamiz City. I am 18 years of age and I’m studying at Misamis University Senior High School under the strand of Humanities and Social Sciences Major in Criminology. I am presently in class 12th. I feel happy to be a part of this great school with good friends and, a helpful and loving teacher.
I completed my Junior high school at Ozamiz City National High School last June 2021 and one of the honourees. We are 19 members in the family including me since we are an extended family. So, nobody comes into this world, without the support of family and friends. Being with my family, I learned how to fight for my dreams, that every hour is precious and it encourages me to pursue my studies because I want to help myself, and my family and to show the world that I can do things that whatever challenges, trials, and hardships I may encounter along the way.
I will strive harder in order to achieve my dreams and purpose in this world. I am a shy type person which I find a weakness for me because I can’t show my abilities, my ideas, and my true self, and it challenges me so much. But I will use this weakness as my inspiration to speak up. I love listening to music and watching Korean Dramas and BL during my leisure time or when I am bored. It is so relaxing and enjoyable.
I am a very adventurous person too, and like to take risks. I like to do creative things besides doing old stuff again and again. Learning new things is one thing that I always enjoy. I also enjoy taking good care of my fish pet. I feel so stressed and I can stay the whole day just watching my fish.
That’s all. Thank you and keep safe everyone. God bless.

7,8,15,18 for fanfiction writer ask!
The wonderful @mangotortoise always indulges me on these FanFiction Writer Asks 🥰 Thank you for being an enabler (and curious about my process lol)!
7. When is your preferred time to write?
I don't really have one! Because I'm so scatterbrained, I write the moment an idea strikes if I can, even if it's just texting myself a few lines of dialogue I don't want to forget. Being a working mom doesn't leave much time aside from evenings/ late nights/ weekends, but when I get those Saturdays that I can wake up, park myself at my computer, and just go all day between switching laundry and loading the dishwasher, I love those days. I'm also really excited to write after I write loose scenes/ notes in my notebook because I end up expanding on them so much in the Word document effortlessly!
8. Where do you take your inspiration from?
Obviously, as fanfic writers, we're inspired by the source material, but my motivations beyond that vary by story. I'll stick to my BttF ones here.
For the Time Circuits Series, it wasn't born out of "I want to make a quality MartyOC across the trilogy" (even though that was ultimately my goal). I watched these films growing up with my dad a lot, and the idea of giving Doc a daughter and exploring that father-daughter relationship was my initial motivation before I even realized I wanted to rewrite the series years later.
Once Upon a Time in the West was at first a "stuck in 1885" AU for Cowboyvember, but after years of working on the T-rated trilogy rewrite, I wanted to try my hand at branching out into topics I'd never written about (depression, sexuality, etc). I was motivated to get a little grittier, and as someone who you could easily call modest, I wanted to see what I was capable of beyond the T rating. And I feel like I finally have enough life experience to give an accurate voice to these topics.
15. If you write OCs, how do you decide on their names?
Well, that depends! I enjoy the repetition and echoing in the BttF trilogy a lot, so it made sense that Doc's daughter is Emma (since he's Emmett). She just never had another name to me. Her middle name is "Jean", and at the time I decided that, I think I'd just reread Harry Potter, and "Jean" is Hermione's middle name. It's also an 80s nod to "Billie Jean".
Emma's mother is Dolores - because "DeLorean". And I think that plays a bit of a personal role in Doc choosing the DeLorean aside from all the science hoo-ha.
Clarence Livingston in There Are No Roads was the son of the cabinet maker in 1885. The cabinet maker's sign says "T. Livingston", and as Clarence was sort of the love interest in that story for Emma, his name became the male version of "Clara." So we have "Emmett and Clara" and "Emma and Clarence", and it makes me happy lol.
Other OCs I've created, it's a matter of making sure they're period-appropriate and a lot of "screen testing" -- saying the name out loud in dialogue, seeing how it fits against the canon names, etc. It's just like naming a child, honestly! It has to sound right and feel right. How do the canon characters feel meeting someone with this name? What nicknames/ pet names come out of it? Does the OC LIKE their name?
18. Do you have any abandoned WIPs? What made you abandon them?
Boy, I'm glad I'm being asked this now as opposed to two years ago! For the last ten years, I always wanted to come back and finish my stories, and I'm happy to say that I've completed two since I returned to writing in 2021: Principles of Compromise I left hanging for eight years, and Where You're Going (Time Circuits #1) I left hanging for three years.
I still have one I know I want to finish for the National Treasure fandom. I wrote a successful RileyOC story there in high school titled Another Clue, and I burned out halfway through writing the sequel to it titled One More Clue (but I still have all the notes to continue and finish it)! Perhaps now, with the new National Treasure TV show coming out on Disney+, it's a good time to hunker down and finish One More Clue (even though I'm totally going to have to spruce up Another Clue first because I've grown too much as a writer to leave it as-is before posting it to AO3).
I loathe getting so invested in an unfinished story, so I've tried to make it my mission to have the story finished/ an ending decided when I commit to posting a story. I don't want to make people disappointed like that. It's frustrating. So I'm trying to make good on it by finishing all my WIPs now!
Thanks again for the ask! I'm always open to more!! Have a great day!

The secret lives of the large, bald ones and Glacier Bay National Park
Monday, July 19, 2021
CAL - This week I am happy to report that the large, bald one spent another weekend outside of our room of heaven in beautiful Anchorage, Alaska. Up until we arrived here, she spent so much time inside with me that I was starting to get worried. I am happy that she is out and about again, undoubtedly engaging in the secretive world of the large, bald ones.
During my solo time, I like to imagine the large, bald pets of other cats gathering in our absence. It must be total and utter chaos. For starters, how would they set boundaries with one another? In their unsupervised state, I imagine them doing such incomprehensible things as sitting too close to each other and sharing food (the horror!).
Tumblr media
Now, I have invested a large amount of time teaching Michele almost everything she knows about boundaries, but even under my strict tutelage, she is still only a beginner. Multiple times she has returned home smelling of other large, bald ones. One time she even came home smelling like a regular cat! You can imagine my dismay. I could tell she knew she had messed up, given the sheepish look on her face.
These are the thoughts that one struggles with, as an owner of a large, bald cat. On one hand, you want them to be independent and happy but on the other, it’s hard to watch them fail.
MICHELE - This week yet another bucket list item was marked off of the list! The majestic Glacier Bay National Park did not disappoint. Seeing Glacier Bay during a weekend trip from Anchorage takes some planning, but is well worth the effort.
On Friday evening, I took the last flight from Anchorage to Juneau, staying at the Extended Stay by the airport, which was literally a 5-minute walk from my gate. A late dinner in Juneau is a little tricky, but luckily Papa John's faithfully delivers until 11pm.
On Saturday morning I took an Alaskan Seaplane to Gustavus, the small town next to the park. The views from the south side of the plane were stunning as we flew over a series of little green islands that sprinkled the brilliantly blue water. The view from the north side of the plane featured snow-capped mountains and even a few glaciers! Upon landing in the teeny, tiny airport, a transport bus from Glacier Bay Lodge retrieved me for the remainder of the journey, which involved a 20-minute drive on a paved road.
Since I arrived a cool 6 hours before check-in, the attendant behind the desk kindly stored my bags and fetched me some coffee from the kitchen. I spent nearly an hour sitting on the stunning deck watching the boats drift by in Bartlett Cove.
Most of the day was spent hiking from the lodge to the river, which meanders through an old-growth rainforest and eventually opens up into a vast river valley, ending at the mouth of Bartlett River. I had a lovely dinner at the lodge and enjoyed an extra-large glass of Malbec while watching the sun dip towards the horizon flanked on either side by snow-capped mountains.
The next morning had an early start with a 7am boarding call for the Sea Life tour of Glacier Bay. This is the reason that people travel here.
Glacier Bay National Park keeps strict restrictions on boat travel to preserve the natural ways of the wildlife as much as possible. The guide explained that Glacier Bay is one of the few national parks that was founded for the purpose of scientific study. The park staff does not interfere with nature and when it goes out of balance, they always allow it to correct itself. Case in point, this year they are experiencing a major overpopulation of sea otters. As we floated across the bay, we saw friendly otters in what seemed like an endless stream, each of them floating on their backs watching us curiously. The guide explained that eventually they will consume most of the shellfish and the population will naturally dwindle back down.
The thing about any wildlife viewing tour is that you never know what you’ll see. On this particular tour, we lucked out big time by seeing multiple humpback whales, stellar sea lions, bald eagles, puffins, and a mother brown bear teaching her cub how to swim. Even the guide could barely believe his eyes!
Of course, the highlight of the tour, and the thing you can always count on seeing, was the glaciers. When all was said and done we visited 7 tidewater glaciers, including spending nearly 30 minutes in front of a glacier called Margerie, while the crew patiently took everyone’s picture and handed out hot chocolates.
Arriving back right on schedule, at 3pm, the process to get back to Anchorage begins. Check-in at the Gustavus airport is downright painful, with substantially more people than the airport was ever meant to handle. A long layover at Juneau becomes equally painful as the one restaurant had already closed for the day. Around 10pm I finally arrive in Anchorage and get lucky by finding an available taxi and am home by 10:30.
All in all, Glacier Bay National Park and Lodge is an amazing trip and definitely a must-see while in Alaska.

PetNoMore
I received a gift this Christmas that encourages me to write stories that my children and grandchildren will want to read after I am gone. The platform uses simple writing prompts, such as, “Where did your family go on vacation?” You can call up a lot of memories and stories when you answer a question like that. I even kept a journal, now lost, when our family made a two-week trip to Glacier National Park in the mid-1960s. These are the kinds of stories your family wants to read when you can no longer tell people about your life.
Sometimes I ask a friend or family member, “Do you want to hear an Augie story?” Augie is my dog, a large, male black lab. He was born near Turner, Maine, on May 11, 2021. We acquired him on the Fourth of July, seven and a half weeks after his birthday. He spent his first week with us out at Cape Cod, in Falmouth, where dogs are not allowed on the beaches, or in restaurants. One exception: we like to eat at a Mexican restaurant that welcomes dogs in their sidewalk seating section.
Even though I could not take my pup with me to join my family at Coast Guard beach, or clamming, or dinner out, or shopping, or almost anywhere they went, we did have options. Augie curled up between my legs as we took our kayak out for long paddles down the Quashnet River and onto Waquoit Bay. Puppies spend a lot of time sleeping, and I’ll say the sun, wind, and gentle motion of the boat made an afternoon nap mighty attractive for him. That rested him for walks to stretch our legs. When we stepped out of the boat for a walk on Washburn Island, he proved himself as good a navigator as you could want, off-leash and on the trail. He turned off the trail at the precise location we needed to find the kayak on the other side of the island.
Here is a picture of Augie resting next to the trail at Washburn, with a chewing stick at the ready:
Tumblr media
This puppy was so well-behaved as a youngster out at the Cape, I applied the same expectations to our neighborhood environment in Westwood, after we returned from our vacation. I liked to let him out into our unfenced yard so he could explore his new property. We live on a corner lot, with ample traffic, people, and other dogs on both streets. I soon realized that if I let him out in the front yard without a leash, I could reach a point of nervous exhaustion in a matter of minutes. Yet I preserved hope that Augie would not get into some kind of mischief every time I turned my head for a second or two.
I was proud of our new puppy, and I wanted to introduce him to the neighborhood, especially other dog owners and their pets. Augie’s approach to introductions proceeds at a faster pace than mine. He is hyper-social, expects to make friends on sight, and runs outbound if he spots an opportunity to play. If I didn’t watch him every moment, he would get into some sort of minor trouble.
So it was on one of our first days back from the Cape. I had Augie out in front, and made some pleasantry or other to another dog walker. It takes two seconds or so to smile and say, “How old is your dog?” or “What is your dog’s name?” In that time, Augie can run twenty yards down the street. That is just what he did that afternoon, as he chased down a woman in a sun hat and loose, cool clothing who had just passed our driveway at the other end of the yard. He probably thought she had a treat hidden somewhere in her skirt.
You know how sharp a puppy’s teeth are, and how quickly they can damage their target. Well my neighbor was not so happy about the small rip in her summer skirt, to say the least. I looked up just in time to see Augie’s head disappear into her garment, and to see her fend him off, a reaction I’m sure mystified and disappointed him for a moment. My sharp cry of “Augie!!” came too late to prevent a small rip in her skirt, not that he would have spared the dress had I called him before he reached his target. When you have possible treats and a new friend in front of you, why should you listen to that nuisance kill-joy behind you?
The woman turned right around and marched back to where I stood in the yard. She scolded me far better than I could ever have scolded Augie for what he did to her skirt. She said, “I’m a dog owner, too, and you have to keep that dog under control!” I apologized, and tried to mollify her, but she would have none of it. You could tell that if this kind of thing happened a second time, that would be it. She would call Animal Control. When I told the story to my wife, I had to call the lady in a sun hat Miss Gulch. All she lacked was a black bicycle with a wicker basket on the back.
I suppose that was my first lesson in neighborhood etiquette for canines and their owners. I did not think I would run into trouble like that so soon. Three months or so after that incident, I think Miss Gulch waved at me from a distance, but I was not sure it was her. If it was, I had to retract the nickname. The fact that I thought of that nickname indicates my anxieties about Augie’s reputation in the neighborhood, and mine.
The next story does not involve Augie’s tendency to get into trouble at all. I planned an errand during the same summer he arrived, 2021, and I wanted to take him with me. So I put him in the front seat of the car, parked in the shade in front of our garage, then ran inside to visit the bathroom one more time, part of my departure routine. When I returned to the car, a woman stood next to the driver’s side. She upbraided me for leaving Augie in the car on a warm day. To give point to her censure, she added, “The next time this happens, I’m going to call the police.”
I thought, “Oh great, a busybody standing on my own property who tells me what a cruel, thoughtless person I am.” Then I thought, “How the hell does she even know the dog is in the car, or how long he has been there?” Then I remembered, “Yes, across the street stood a small group of women, chatting, as I ran indoors. She must have waited to see how long I would take to return to the car, and positioned herself to catch me when I emerged from the house.” I’m not one to keep quiet in many cases, but her threat to call the police made me reticent in this case. I let her retreat back down the driveway.
So now I’m under surveillance because I own a dog. Big Sister watches me, evaluates me, scolds me. I know that sounds discriminatory, but as I become better acquainted with dog owners in my area, I’ve found that female dog owners are more judgmental. They are less likely to admire his strong build, more likely be on guard about his masculinity. I have thought that no one can be afraid of a lab - they are way too friendly to hurt anyone. Yet they don’t want him to come near, especially if they have their own dogs with them.
The incident in the driveway had nothing to do with Augie’s masculinity, of course. He was still a lightweight at that point. The incident did give me the sense that I was watched. If I leave my dog in the car for a few minutes before I do an errand, that is not any neighbor’s business, until they make it their business. I have not seen the woman on our street since then, thus I wonder if she even lives in the neighborhood. Where she lives does not matter, though she has fewer opportunities to call the police if she decides she does not like my behavior.
Miss Gulch did not threaten to call the police, but in both encounters, I felt that I had been given a chance, but would not be given a second one. Anxieties bury themselves after a while, and as psychologists say, submerged anxieties sometimes come out in our dreams. Our worries as students, about completion of assignments and course requirements, remain with us for a lifetime as we sleep. A few nights ago, I had my first Augie dream. Let me tell you about it.
The setting is Des Moines, Iowa, where I spent my middle and high school years. The people in the dream have no identity, nor do the events appear to have any connection to Westwood, Massachusetts, where we live now. We lived on 42nd Street in Des Moines, at the corner of Woodland and 42nd. In the dream, I am on my bicycle at the other end of the block, toward the high school. I straddle the bicycle, feet on the ground, as I talk with a small group of men, also on bicycles. We must be making a decision, as we all mount up at the same time, and head down the block together, toward my house at the other end.
After we pick up a bit of speed, who appears but Augie, a few months old and before his main growth spurt, trotting along with the group, between us and the curb. He’s a bit in the lead. I think, “What’s he doing here, and what trouble has he been in while I’m out on my bike?” When we reach our driveway on 42nd, Augie turns in and heads toward our carriage house in the back. I turn in to follow him. The driveway is long but not too long, so we have a quick scene shift, to an open, concrete-covered area, where a short driveway gives access to the carriage house from the back alley.
Parked in the short driveway is a medium-size, commercial white truck, with the letters PetNoMore painted in large letters on the side. Now the action happens fast. With no warning or introductions, a person in a white lab coat emerges from the driver’s side, rounds the hood, and approaches Augie and me. I see she has a syringe in her right hand. I have my arm over Augie’s back, in a rather protective pose. I don’t understand yet why the truck is parked in our driveway, nor do I understand the situation. Lab coat woman drops to her knee, thrusts her needle into Augie’s right fore-leg, jiggles it around to make sure the serum enters his body, then disappears.
Throughout this sequence, I don’t recognize a threat. As in military operations, surprise lies at the heart of success. I look at the needle as it jiggles, and think, “There must be some reason for this.” My blank mind goes no further.
Then I start to wonder. Augie appears to have trouble staying awake. His head droops a little. He has strong will and aubundance of energy, so he raises his head back up. The next time his head droops, his eyelids droop as well. Again he raises his head, and opens his eyes. By now I realize my dog is dying in my arms, a strong dose of pentobarbital in his veins. The dream ends as he falls asleep.
This dream occurred the second and last night of a holiday ski trip to Vermont. The day we returned, I drove to Dorchester, where Augie stays with a friend and her dog when we travel. Traffic to and from Dorchester was slow and slower, so I had plenty of time to listen Van Morrison and think. On the return trip, the freeway molasses had thickened to the point where the car is either stopped, or rolling at some immeasurable slow speed. Augie is in the passenger seat next to me. The dream is still so vivid, I reach over to touch and gently press the place on his right fore-leg where the needle went in. I feel grateful he sits next to me.
I look up from my traffic-jam reverie just in time to see the distance between my old Subaru and the back of an Infiniti closing fast. I have not had my foot firmly on the brake! My car hits the Infiniti’s rear bumper at two to three miles an hour. When two vehicles that each weigh two tons or more collide, it feels bad. I can’t believe what I’ve done, as I try hard to pay attention in every traffic jam, to make sure I don’t rear-end the car ahead of me, no matter what the speed.
I’m happy to see no damage to the other car, but the owner detects a couple of scratches on the bumper’s right side. Neither of us wants to negotiate in the left-side breakdown lane, nor do we want to go through insurance. We settle up with the cash in my wallet, which will not go far if she goes to a body shop. It does count as guilt money for me, a small present for her.
So that’s the epilogue for this story about a new puppy, neighborhood disapproval, Freudian dream interpretation, and how not to drive on a crowded freeway. No one will reveal to me who called PetNoMore in Des Moines. I imagine it’s significant the dream occurred in a place I have not lived for fifty years. We have no control over our brains as they rest. We only know that we remember some dreams more vividly than others. The vivid ones usher into our vision the fears and hopes that embed themselves most firmly in our memories.

French government clarifies post-Brexit rules on pets for second-home owners
New Post has been published on https://petnews2day.com/pet-industry-news/pet-travel-news/french-government-clarifies-post-brexit-rules-on-pets-for-second-home-owners/
French government clarifies post-Brexit rules on pets for second-home owners
Pre-Brexit, people travelling between France and the UK could obtain an EU Pet Passport for their car, dog or ferret which ensured a hassle-free transport experience.
But since the UK left the EU things have become more complicated – and a lot more expensive – for UK residents wanting to travel to France with pets.
You can find a full breakdown of the new rules HERE, but the main difference for people living in the UK is that that they now need an Animal Health Certificate for travel.
Unlike the Pet Passport, a new ACH is required for each trip and vets charge around £100 (€118) for the certificate. So for people making multiple trips a year, especially those who have more than one pet, the charges can quickly mount up.
UK nationals who live in France can still benefit from the EU Pet Passport, but until now the situation for second-home owners has been a little unclear.
However the French Agriculture ministry has now published updated information on its website.
The rules state: “The veterinarian can only issue a French passport to an animal holding a UK/EU passport issued before January 1st, 2021, after verifying that the animal’s identification number has been registered in the Fichier national d’identification des carnivores domestiques (I-CAD).”
I-CAD is the national database that all residents of France must register their pets in – find full details HERE.
The ministry’s advice continues: “If not registered, the veterinarian may proceed to register the animal in I-CAD, if the animal’s stay in France is longer than 3 consecutive months, in accordance with Article 22 of the AM of August 1st, 2012 on the identification of domestic carnivores.”
So if you are staying in France for longer than 90 days (which usually requires a visa for humans) your pet can be registered and get a Pet Passport, but those staying less than three months at a time will have to continue to use the AHC.
The confusion had arisen for second-home owners because previously some vets had been happy to issue the Passport using proof of a French address, such as utility bills. The Ministry’s ruling, however, makes it clear that this is not allowed.
So here’s a full breakdown of the rules;
Living in France
If you are living in France full time your pet is entitled to an EU Pet Passport regardless of your nationality (which means your pet has more travel rights than you do. Although they probably still rely on you to drive the car/book the ferry tickets).
Your cat, dog or ferret must be fully up to date with their vaccinations and must be registered in the national pet database I-CAD (full details here).
Once issued, the EU Pet Passport is valid for the length of the animal’s life, although you must be sure to keep up with their rabies vaccinations. Vets in France usually charge between €50-€100 for a consultation and completing the Passport paperwork.
Living in the UK
If you are living in the UK and travelling to France (or the rest of the EU) you will need an Animal Health Certificate for your cat, dog or ferret.
The vaccination requirements are the same as for the EU Pet Passport, but an ACH is valid for only 10 days after issue for entry to the EU (and then for four months for onward travel within the EU).
So if you’re making multiple trips in a year you will need a new certificate each time.
UK vets charge around £100 (€118) for a certificate, although prices vary between practices. Veterinary associations in the UK are also warning of delays in issuing certificates as many people begin travelling again after the pandemic (often with new pets bought during lockdown), so you will need to book in advance.
Second-home owners
Although previously some French vets had been happy to issue certificates with only proof of an address in France, the French government has now clarified the rules on this, requiring that pets be registered within the French domestic registry in order to get an EU Pet Passport.
This can only be done if the pet is staying in France for more than three months. The three months must be consecutive, not over the course of a year.
UK pets’ owners will normally require a visa if they want to stay in France for more than three months at a time (unless they have dual nationality with an EU country) – find full details on the rules for people HERE.

Trending Employee Engagement Activities For 2022-23
Next time when you think about why you need to spend on employee engagement activities, remember that businesses with engaged workforces outperform their competitors by up to 22% in terms of profitability. (Gallup study)
The logic is simple- engaged people perform better which in turn helps companies achieve their goals. So who are these “engaged employees”? These are individuals who feel a strong mental and emotional connection towards their work, their teams, and their organization. Employee happiness, satisfaction and well-being are parts and parcels of employee engagement.
Tumblr media
The idea of executing exactly the same kind of employee engagement activities every month/ year is no longer relevant because the expectations of employees are changing more quickly than ever before. Thus, in order to keep them truly engaged, being current with the ongoing employee engagement trends is important. So, if you are looking for National fun day at work 2023 ideas, or want to make the best use of your employee welfare funds, by and large, read on!
Break the Monotony with the Following Employee Engagement Activties and Ideas:
Include Standup Shows in your Events:
When we say that happy employees are the most productive ones, we mean it literally! Hire a stand-up comic to make your corporate gatherings fun, be it annual days, family days, or award ceremonies.
These days you have a fantastic league of stand-up comedians who comprehend the client brief and tailor their acts to the event. It is usually advisable to ask them to avoid talking about politics and religion, and making fun of customers and competitors.
Plan a Corporate Retreat:
A corporate retreat is a one-day, one-week, or longer gathering where employees can relax, bond with each other and also do corporate planning. Especially in the post-covid times, after a long period of remote work and several kinds of virtual employee engagement activities, people are craving a change in their surroundings.
Taking them to some calm and exciting settings like beaches or mountains will help them think more creatively and contribute better. Find a property that has all the amenities you require, like conference rooms, lounges, a pool, a games room, an open ground etc.
Since corporate retreats take place away from your office space, make sure you make all the travel and accommodation arrangements. Plan your team building activities in advance. Some common fun activities for employee engagement can be escape rooms, cook-off, wine tasting, karaoke night, hiking, dance off and so many more such exciting activities.
Organize a Lunch and Learn Event:
A lunch and learn event is a great way to help employees interact with each other while enhancing their professional and personal growth.
The purpose of such sessions can vary from discussing a business strategy to learning about physical/mental well-being. Since the atmosphere is usually less formal and more sociable, it is a great way to foster positivity and enable networking.
Organize a Mental Health Fair:
In the 2021 Wellness Trends Report, it was found that organizations are investing in wellness programs more than ever. Poor mental health can drastically impact an employee’s confidence and productivity, ability to manage work-life balance, ability to communicate with co-workers and so many other aspects.
Organizing a health fair is one of the most trending ways to introduce wellness initiatives to your employees. It can help you demonstrate that you care about their well-being. Common elements include some hands-on learning activities, fitness challenges, meditation workshops, and activities like painting, dancing, yoga etc. To choose the right kind of activities and goodies, make sure that your goals are measurable and specific.
Organize a Pet Day:
To help employees manage their stress, companies today are organizing pet days where employees can take their pets to their workplaces. It is important to assess if your organizational structure is appropriate for receiving pets.
If not, you can always book places.  Make sure you notify your employees that their pets must be vaccinated and dewormed.  Having said this, the organizers must be ready for unanticipated circumstances and always have a vet and doctor present on the event day.
Plan a Volunteer Program:
If you are looking for inexpensive employee engagement ideas, it’s corporate volunteering. Currently, corporate volunteering is practiced by more than 25% of organizations. Usually, these are environmental cleanup programs, any pro bono work for NGOs, donation drives etc.
If you are trying to figure out the relationship between volunteer programs and employee productivity, researches show a positive correlation between the two. Employees feel a sense of purpose and empowerment during these programs, which further reflects in their everyday productivity.
In addition to this, companies that are purpose-driven are found to be a top choice of employees as well as customers. With these programs, not only you are making a difference in society, you are also making a difference in your corporate reputation.
Make Motivational Speakers a part of your Event:
Employee engagement and motivation go hand in hand.  After a long time of remote working, both employees and leaders have been feeling unfocused and demotivated. A session with a motivational speaker will help them get fresh perspectives and feel optimistic.
In a daily grind, even the high-performing employees can begin to feel like cogs in a machine. In such a scenario, a voice from the outside might serve as a reminder that they are not only valuable as individuals but also crucial for the organizations.
Conclusion:
It is important to continuously improve employee engagement initiatives at your organization so that your employee engagement funds and efforts do result in improved employee loyalty, productivity, satisfaction and more business profitability.
The trends of employee engagement activities will keep on evolving, what will persist is the fact that employees want a people-first culture, one where they are valued, their work is appreciated and their wellness and work-life harmony are a priority.

Autumn is still here. 😊💛🧡
From National Day Calendar website
National Pumpkin Day recognizes a favored autumn decoration and food on October 26th. Not only do they make great fall decorations, but the pumpkin also completes a variety of tasty recipes. Join a pumpkin competition or visit any of the many fall festivals featuring the beautiful gourds.
This squash is native to North America. The oldest evidence of pumpkin-related seeds dates back to somewhere between 7000 and 5500 BC to seeds found in Mexico.
The word pumpkin originates from the word pepon, which means “large melon” in Greek.
Within recent years, white pumpkins have become more popular in the United States. The United States produces 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins, with Illinois producing more than any other state.
2021, Italian Stefano Cutrupi claimed the title of the world’s largest pumpkin when his gargantuan gourd weighed in at 2703 pounds (1,226 kg). That’s 300 pounds heavier than the 2014 winner from Switzerland. In 2020, Travis Gienger grew the largest pumpkin in North America. The hefty vegetable weighed in at 2,350 pounds. It eeked out the previous winner, a 2,145-pound pumpkin from Streator, Illinois grown by Gene McMullen.
Pumpkins are packed with nutrients, but they’re not only good for humans. Did you know that pumpkin may be recommended by veterinarians as a dietary supplement for dogs and cats? Since pumpkin is easy to digest, if your pet is experiencing certain digestive ailments, don’t be surprised if your vet says to give them pumpkin puree.
