I would like to dedicate this victory to my advisor, who told me:

that I need to take the class and shouldn’t even try to get out of it

that sometimes we just need to put up with things we don’t want to do in the ““real world”“

that there is no way the committee would accept my request anyway so no need to try

that if I wanted a chance of my petition being accepted I would need to compromise on the composition courses I am taking and take a different class I also don’t give a shit about instead

I ignored every single one of these points, I filled out the petition requesting the exact education I want this semester, and I attached student testimonials, a letter of support from two professors, and a 6-page writeup of all the reasons the course is redundant to the rest of my education and a waste of time. And it fucking worked.

This semester is going to be GREAT. I don’t have to take a required course that is a huge waste of time and I will be taking a lot of composition and analysis courses I’m super excited about.
