Happy Pride Month everyone! As promised, here is our first queer manga rec of the month:
My Love Mix-Up!, by Hinekure Wataru & Aruko (illustrations)
Tumblr media
Original title: Kieta Hatsukoi /
Genres: Comedy, Romance, School Life, Slice of Life
Themes: Love, School, Love Triangle
Japanese volumes: 9 (Finished)
Aoki is in love with Hashimoto, his desk neighbor. But one day, when he borrows her ereaser, he discovers that her heart belongs to another: the handsome Ida, who sits right in front of him. He is so disappointed that he doesn't realize that the ereaser fell and that his alleged rival in love is picking it up... It's the start of an enormous misunderstanding that could very well turn into the most beautiful love story!
This... THIS is a love triangle just how we like them. Also, can we give the Dumbass Bisexual of the Year Award to Aoki, plz? He deserves it and that's a compliment. I love him whith my whole being, okay?
I absolutely adored this title, Hashimoto, who is kind of our only female character, isn't just a numbskull whose only purpose is helping further Aoki and Ida's love story, she's a true friend to Aoki, has her own love story and a pretty cool character evolution. I'm pretty sure that Ida is on the aroace spectrum given some of his dialogue, and even if it's not explicitly stated, it still feels good.
We're in a manga that really sticks to the codes of classic shōjo manga, the only difference is that the main love story is about two boys. There isn't a strong focus on homophobia either, we only have a few tense moments when they think about revealing their relationship, I thought it was really soft. Sometimes it feels good to read something where bigotry isn't one of the main themes
French version under the cut
Titre VF : Love Mix-Up
Genres : Comédie, Romance, School Life, Slice of Life

Did I get it right?
Tumblr media
A/N: Thank you for the request! I had a lot of fun with this one
Summary: Miyano encounters a tickle scene in his manga, while Sasaki is sitting just inches away. What will he do!?
Characters: lee!Miyano, ler!Sasaki
Sat shoulder to shoulder on the couch in their shared apartment, Sasaki and Miyano were having a relaxing afternoon together. Well, Sasaki was, at least. He was absorbed in a video game on his Switch while Miyano was buried in the latest volume of a BL manga he had just purchased earlier that day. Unbeknownst to Miyano, there was a tickle scene in said volume, and a lengthy one at that.
Oh God, it’s never this long! I’m not blushing, am I?? Miyano thought. Surely Sasaki won’t notice. Miyano turned to sneak a peek at his boyfriend from behind his manga. Sasaki was still focused on his game.
Miyano was itching to tell Sasaki. He had been ever since they had become more comfortable with touching each other. It wasn’t that weird, was it? Was it?? He didn’t know. He didn’t care. All he knew was he had to say something, and he had to do it fast, or he didn’t know what he was gonna do.
I feel like I’m going crazy, Miyano thought. This is ridiculous. What is wrong with me? Why do I want him to ti—
“Something wrong, Myaa-chan?”
So badly. I want it so badly.
“Myaa-chan?” Sasaki lightly stroked Miyano’s hair. In doing so, he accidentally brushed his fingers up against the shell of Miyano’s ear.
“waAAH!” Miyano yelped as his manga fell to the floor. He quickly covered his ear with his hand.
“Oh! I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you like that.”
Miyano’s eyes locked with Sasaki’s. Mouth agape, Miyano couldn’t look away. He felt like he was frozen in place.
“Pfft, ahaha! S-sorry, sorry, your, your face is just-haha! You’re so cute!” Sasaki giggled.
Miyano blinked. Sasaki patted Miyano’s head gently and ruffled his hair. This seemed to snap him out of it.
“H-hey!” Miyano said, grabbing Sasaki’s wrist.
Sasaki smiled at him. “Were you so engrossed in that BL manga that you couldn’t be bothered to answer your boyfriend? Hmm?” Sasaki asked. He reached down with his free hand to pick up the manga that had landed face down, still open to the page Miyano had been on.
“Ah! D-d-don’t!!” Miyano cried, but it was too late.
Sasaki read the panels as Miyano desperately swatted at the manga with the hand that wasn’t already holding one of Sasaki’s hands back. Curse Sasaki’s long arms!
“So, this is what was ruffling your feathers, huh?” Sasaki asked, turning the manga to face Miyano.
“Stahahaaaap!” Miyano squeezed his eyes shut. “Don’t make me see it again!”
“Does it make you uncomfortable?”
“N-no…” Miyano opened one eye. Sasaki had put the manga down on the coffee table. Miyano sighed and opened both eyes again. “It’s not that.”
“What is it, then?” Sasaki put his Switch down on the table as well.
Miyano let go of Sasaki’s wrist he realized he was still holding. “I, I don’t know how to tell you this.”
“What, do you like being tickled or something?” Sasaki smirked.
Miyano gawked at him. “How, how did you…?”
“Did I get it right?”
What do I do?? Miyano thought as he frantically looked around, trying to come up with any excuse to get out of this. “U-um, I, uhh… You wouldn’t think it’s weird… would you?”
“Of course not! I think it’s adorable.”
“Adorable!? Wh-what are you saying??”
Without another word, Sasaki swiftly grabbed hold of Miyano’s wrists, lifted them up over his head and pinned him down to the couch.
“I’m saying~” Sasaki said, as Miyano looked up at him with a mixture of elation and dread, “I wanna tickle you. Will you let me?” Sasaki lifted one of his hands and wiggled his fingers at Miyano.
“Y-you— I— Are you joking??”
“Does this look like a joke to you?”
“whahAAAAHAHAHA nOhoHOHOHOO!!” Miyano screamed as Sasaki vibrated his fingers against his ribcage.
Sasaki paused for a moment, readjusting himself so he was properly stradling Miyano’s lap. He let go of Miyano’s wrists. Miyano was blushing like crazy.
“Sooo… is this okay?” Sasaki wiggled his fingers again.
Miyano blinked. He looked to the side. He looked back at Sasaki. He realized the position he was in. He covered his face with his hands. He peeked through his fingers. Flustered by Sasaki’s gaze, he squeezed his eyes shut and balled his fists.
“Mya-chaaan~?”
…He slowly nodded.
“Yes! Here it comes~”
Miyano puffed his cheeks. He will be ready this time. Surely he could handle—
“PFFTAHAHAHAHA NOHOHOHAHAHAHAHAHA!!”
“Oh my gosh, you’re really ticklish!” That’s so cute, Sasaki awed.
Sasaki switched from drilling his thumbs into Miyano’s ribs to kneading his hips to squeezing the tops of his thighs, making Miyano’s laughter raise an octave.
“You’re not even trying to get away! You must really like this, huh?”
“STAHAHAHAHAAAP! AHAHAHAHAHAAHAAAAAA! NAHAHAHA PLEEHEHEHEHAHAHAHAHA!!”
“Stop the tickling? Or stop the teasing?”
“THE TEHEHEHEHEEYAAHAHA! THE TEHEHEASING!!”
“Aww, but Mya-chaan, I’m having so much fun! Aren’t you?”
Miyano nodded briefly, laughing as loud as ever.
“Where are you the most tickle tickle ticklish~?” Sasaki asked, emphasizing his words with prods and pokes.
Miyano frantically waved his hands back and forth in response.
“Not telling? Guess I’ll just have to find out for myself~”
Sasaki tried skittering his fingers up along Miyano’s sides and tummy, which didn’t get much of a reaction in comparison to the other spots he had already tried. He fluttered his fingers against his ears, making Miyano squeak and snort (cute). He even managed to sneak his hands up into Miyano’s armpits. Still no dice.
So, Sasaki started to trail his fingers all over every inch of Miyano’s skin he could reach, trying to gauge his reactions. Miyano squirmed with varying degrees of fervor as Sasaki lightly traced from his head, to his torso, his arms, his legs, all the way down to—
“EEEP!!”
“Oh?” Sasaki grinned as he began to slip off Miyano’s socks.
“W-w-wahahait—nahAHAHAHAT THEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHERE!!!”
“Gotcha!”
“SAHAHAASAKI! PLEHEHEHEHEEAAASE!! Oh my GOD NO NAAAAAHAHAT UNDER MY TOHOHOES!! PLEASE I-I CAHAHAHAN’T TAHAHAHAKE IT!!!”
Sasaki was holding Miyano’s feet in a headlock, scribbling furiously up and down his soles, paying special attention to the balls of his feet and under his toes. Tears began to stream down Miyano’s cheeks.
“YOU’RE GOING TO KIHIHIHILL MEHEHEHEHE!!”
Not wanting to push Miyano too far, Sasaki let go of Miyano’s feet. “Oh my gosh, I’m sorry, I-I don’t know what came over me! Y-you were just so cute, your laugh is the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard, and—” Miyano put a hand over Sasaki’s mouth.
“Stahap, *pant* just, just stahahap…” Miyano was bright red, but he didn’t look upset. Not in the slightest. “You’re going to kill me for real.” He wiped a tear from his eye. “You can’t just say stuff like that!”
Sasaki put his hand on top of Miyano’s and pulled it away from his mouth. “I knew my teasing got to you, but I didn’t know it got to you that much. My compliments, too?”
Miyano nodded. He looked to the side. “You’re just so nice to me… I hardly know how to react.”
The two stayed silent for a moment. Sasaki began stroking Miyano’s hair. They both smiled.
“Thank you…” Miyano said.
“For what, tickling you?”
“No! Well… yes. For everything.”
“Aw, of course. I’m so happy to be with you.”
Miyano finally sat up and pulled Sasaki in for a hug.
“I am too.”

Second queer manga rec for pride month!
The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All, by Arai Sumiko
Tumblr media
Original title: Ki ni Natteru Hito ga Otoko ja Nakatta /
Genres: Comedy - Romance - Shojo-ai - Slice of Life
Themes: School Life - Music
Japanese volumes: 1 (Ongoing)
During one of her visits to the record store, popular high school gyaru Aya Oosawa falls in love with the store employee, not realizing that this cool guy is actually Mitsuki Koga, the quiet girl sitting next to her in class.
The premise of the story sounded really fun and the art was so good that I just HAD to give it a try and, let me tell you, it's absolutely worth the hype
The story is pretty simple but the way the characters and their relationship are handled is just so nice. I think it's a pretty refreshing story and I like that we get to have cute stories like this that aren't centered on the characters' sexuality but the characters' relationship. As I probably said in my Love Mix-up! review, darker stories on the struggles of being queer are great too, but I want to be able to just... breathe and have a nice time with classic romance tropes. After all, I enjoy romance manga way more than romance book (don't ask me why, I don't know) so it's always great to read queer romances like this
French version under the cut
Titre Original : Ki ni Natteru Hito ga Otoko ja Nakatta /
Genres : Comédie - Romance
Thèmes : École - Musique
Volumes VO : 1 (En cours)
