this truly is the hardest question. :( but after much consideration, I think Endless Halloween Night wins out for me, because it's nonstop Characters Being Silly the whole way through. the whole thing is just lots of these little dorks having the most ridiculous interactions, which is always my favorite! and of course the big twist is SO delightfully stupid and doubles down SO hard that it becomes AMAZING and I 100% unironically adore it. AND it's Halloween! everyone is in their cute little costumes and having a spooky adventure! it's great!

however, I am ALSO a big fan of the Harveston event! how can I not be! everyone is wearing comfy winter outfits and getting along really weirdly well with Epel's grandma and he's getting a little worried about that! my terrible loud son sews a plush squirrel and then gives it a silly little nickname and refuses to leave it behind when it breaks! the ending shot with the sled! I LOVE IT.

Say what you want about Hazbin Hotel, but some of their characters are so refreshing

SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 6 BELOW

To put it short, I absolutely adore Emily. I was totally expecting her to be the “dismissed underling” who took an entire arc to come to her senses and realize that she may not be fighting for good. But it took literal seconds for her opinion to change and her character pulled a 180 on the classic “miscommunication” and “misunderstanding” tropes that are being so heavily pushed in most action or drama series.

In general, I think that character’s opinions changing on a whim, if done correctly, is so much more realistic and satisfying than dragging out development well past the point of boredom. In the real world, people change all the time, and while their core values may take some time to shift, they can still recognize when something doesn’t follow those values that they held.

Some people will probably say that this was only done because the writing team needed to pack all this development into eight episodes and that they didn’t take the time to properly flesh out their characters. And while I certainly agree in some aspects (bring back 20+ episode seasons PLEASE), Emily’s realization was a pleasure to witness and I’m glad they didn’t take the long route with her

timeskip Molly concepts - probably when she's around 16-17 ish, maybe even early college? ( I'm not a big fan of the "ooh the bubbly character gets older and is now SUPER SAD" trope so this is more like... Molly is still Molly, she just gets older and faces more hardships/life stressors that come with age, and struggles to maintain the same high level of positivity/resiliency she used to have )

#still a generally happy enthusiastic person but finds more and more that she sometimes has to put on a facade yknow? #has to go soul searching for purpose and meaning in a real genuine way that reinvigorates her #probably something to do with ghost world shenanigans but ~ooh something happens~ and she gets separated from her body somehow #and ollie libby june and darryl have to find help and reconnect w/ andrea and meet alina #and finally ofc hunt down todd and adia and rope them in #todd goes through a ghost portal after much convincing to come retrieve wraith molly and return her detached joyful spirit to her body #and in him becoming scratch again for a short while - to return molly's soul to herself - he of course must return to his own body #and begins to recall some lost memories of his time as a ghost including their friendship #and itslike. a lesson on reaching out and asking for help when you feel yourself slipping away from who you used to be but from molly's POV #and trusting loved ones to know you well enough to put your pieces back together right and make you whole again. or something #the ghost and molly mcgee #tgamm #molly mcgee
