Happy New Year!
I wanted to recreate the Happy99 email worm just because I love how the old web looked back then. Hope everyone has a great new year and I'll see you in 2024!

We . Have a fictive of a character based on a virus? I don't think that counts though.
Ehhhh kinda? We straight up have ILOVEYOU, Code Red and Code Red 2, the first internet worm (the Morris Worm), and even Happy New Years 99/happy99 + several others.

sometimes i think about what my episode would be like were i ever a guest on drawfee and i think i'd definitely do drawing viruses based on their names. Creeper & Reaper, the Morris worm, Timid 2, WannaCry, ILOVEYOU, Ghostball, Happy99, Melissa, MEMZ... it's delightful, it's so silly. did they cause a lot of damage? oh yeah. i mean happy99 didn't but she's different she's special. obviously i could just draw these myself (and i probably will at some point) but i want to hear nathan make deflating balloon noises when i tell someone their virus is Timid 2, the sequel to Timid

the virovirokuns saying "happy new year 1997" is most likely a reference to happy99 - a relatively harmless computer worm that spread like wildfire through email early 1999, wishing everyone a happy new year along the way.
this also makes the fact that the virovirokuns say 1997 instead of 1999 stand out a lot more, since toby went out of his way to change the year in the throwaway malware reference.

OH COOLATTA99, LIKE HAPPY99?
{ OKAY I’VE BEEN WAITING TO ANSWER THIS ONE SINCE IT GOT SENT FUCK YEAH
SO! Yes, the title is a reference to the Happy99 computer worm!
For those of you who don’t know, Happy99 was a computer virus that, in all honesty, didn’t do much damage. In fact it’s debated as to whether or not it can even be Considered a virus. At worst it’ll slow down your computer a little bit.
The .DLL part of the title is ALSO a reference to this! As Happy99 was both an exe file and would create .dll files on the victim’s computer
The connections to Tommy are INCREDIBLY vague HKJDFSHKJDF He’s something that’s not supposed to be there in the system, but he doesn’t (intentionally) cause any damage so whats the problem? Plus hey the irony of it being called HAPPY99 and well. Tommy. How could I NOT take that opportunity? }

The Happy99 worm, also known as Ska or i-Worm, was a worm for Windows, appearing in 1999. The worm would display a gif of exploding fireworks in a window titled “Happy New Year 1999!″. This was the first worm known to spread via e-mail and usenet. Other than attaching itself to the user’s computer, this worm did no damage.

Happy New Year!
Happy99 is a relatively harmless computer worm written by French virus writer “Spanska”. It first appeared in mid-January 1999 and spread through email and usenet.
The worm installs itself and runs in the background of a victim’s machine, without their knowledge. When executed, animated fireworks and a “Happy New Year” message displays. The worm then attaches itself automatically to all subsequent emails and newsgroup posts sent by a user. The worm modifies a registry key to automatically start itself when the computer is rebooted. Other than propagating itself, the worm does no further damage to an infected computer.
It is generally considered the first virus to propagate by email, and has served as a template for the creation of other self-propagating viruses.
