Whenever I see milkvans insist Will isn’t important to the story, I recall this mysterious interview with Finn saying exactly the opposite. Mysterious because I have no idea where this audio originally comes from (heard it used in an edit, but the editor didn’t respond to anyone asking about its source in the comments), but it is clearly Finn speaking and you can even hear Caleb in the background agreeing with him, confirming it is very much real… does anyone know where it’s from??? A podcast? An interview? Behind the scenes?

invincible rant.
I’m still unconvinced that the hate for amber isn’t rooted in racism against black women. She was very reminiscent of many intellectual young black women with goals and a passion for change. The prejudice fandom was the issue. The fandom expecting her to be some ride or die(typical) and when she wasn’t they projected the ‘sapphire’ stereotype on to her. Some people chalk it up to bad writing but it’s more nuanced since they decided to change her race from the comics.
Sidebar: none of the female characters pass the Bechtel test anyway.
For most of her screen time she was always agreeing to marks false promises and left feeling neglect and uncertainty for the relationship. She continuously forgave him and grounded him. I’m sure she knew the stress he was under for being a superhero but ultimately things were not going to workout if he was going to keep lying about it and not TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY.
So amber held him accountable. Called him out for lying and put him on the hot seat…….
Now que the ‘He was saving lives!!! He’s a superhero!!! He’s a star!!’ ass mfs.
Everyone keep calling invincible a superhero as if he didn’t spend 95% of the series getting his a** beat. His intuition and strategizing sucks. He’s an amateur superhero with an inflated ego, no real passions, daddy issues and trauma. It doesn’t help that he’s so ignorant and oblivious to like..EVERYTHING??? His mother admitted to feeling like a single parent for most of his life yet he still yearns to understand a man that couldn’t give 2 fks about how he left the state of his son’s home. Marks moral compass is in the shi**er.
White people got that one phrase, “wise up” verb(adverb) slang (often foll by to) to become or cause to become aware or informed (of) (tr) to make more intellectually demanding or sophisticated.
Back to Amber. Mark currently is unable to be a fit protector to anybody. Literally was fumbling peoples lives THE WHOLE SEASON. And y’all think Eve is that ‘ginger spice and everything nice’ that will fix mark but little do y’all know that Eve also will have her turn at tearing his a** up for neglecting her too.

this might be odd for me to say because i talk about them constantly but jon and damian still being friends in main continuity is weird to me. they didn’t really grow up together because i’m really not even sure if jon and damian knew each other for a full year before he left space and as of right now, all of jon’s relationships are much older than damian and damian is making friends of his own and considers jon to be “someone that left him behind” i don’t see the reason to keep them around each other i’m not gonna lie, how can they still consider each other best friends? i’m also of the opinion right now that i don’t care about jon kent and just want damian to be happy.

a very important lesson i’ve learned this year is that you can’t heal while still entertaining the same people that broke you.

I'm as anti landlord as anybody, probably more than a lot of people after having me, my parents, and five of my siblings ages 3-10 forced to the streets by our old one when I was 5 because he couldn't up the price until we were gone, but y'all need to realize not every landlord is a millionaire renting out two dozen houses just because they want to. Some of them are just normal people who have no choice but to rent out their dead parents old house so their children don't starve to death. And until you recognize that, we can never end poverty or give everyone a house.

On GEN V...
First, I have to say that though I watch The Boys, for me the skewering of power, and it being always corrupt/corruptable, especially when corporate was smudged a bit by all the white dudes being centered by the narrative and fandom, and certain expected patterns in that.
Tumblr media
...i.e. Butcher and Soldier Boy and Homelander...ALL being stanned while all being terrible people. -Mother's Milk and Frenchie being side kicks (the Black man and the "foreigner") and the silent but deadly Asian girl... You get it. I hate that this is the case, but even when meant to subvert, this tends to happen.
So, it's interesting that they leaned in harder and made it MORE obvious this time, by literally blowing up the Golden White Guy (played by Swartzanegger's son, no less) at the end of the pilot episode and playing a Black woman's gaze as the entry point into this angle on the world. ...We saw how that went with Star Trek: Discovery. Those used to the Dursley 37 birthday presents treatment were and still are REAL mad. I hate to say it, especially given how unusually well this show is rendering the insecurities and challenges of this time for young adults, but some people we like are not gonna make it through this season... And it won't be pretty when they go (holds a halo of protection over Emma & Jordan).
...But Marie, a.k.a. the audience's gaze? is safe. That said, Marie is *also* written like the usually centered white dude, just like Micheal Burnham before her. Her arc is "the hero's journey." She stumbles, but ultimately she will measure up to the highest potential (one of, if not the most powerful hero) even she can't see yet... TW for this section... for self-harm/eating disorders etc... The powers being spot-on metaphors for the struggles and insecurities of young people is a nice writing choice. Marie's puberty/power advent literally killed her parents and alienated her sister. So, of course, she can't truly see the potential. There's ritualistic self-loathing in both her cutting and Emma's vomiting to use their powers and that is mostly imposter syndrome for both....Both of them are SO MUCH more powerful than they think, but are held back by parental baggage.
...Andre too, though instead of self-harm it's being lazy about his power development, to subconsciously detach his own personhood from his father trying to live through him.
Jordan Li is bigender but is most comfortable presenting "femme", which may also have to do with detaching from their parents' preferences in gender presentation for them. They want a super-powered son. But the only times Li presents that way is when they feel they absolutely *have to* or actively need to do something and only can, in that form. "Relaxed" or default Jordan is femme.
So, while I see people wishing Li would have been femme Li in that first kiss, it makes sense that they would shift, given the baggage and male presentation preference pressure they grew up with. They shifted back to "default" Li once they were relaxed...i.e. afterglow slumber... An interesting inferred detail is that Li was born presenting male. That is likely a big reason why their parents are that attached to a masc gender presentation.
Now Cate's arc, just like the Golden Boy Luke is actively subverting an element of expected whiteness. Her power is to compel people with touch. It's white women's tears as a superpower, which is IMO, the most clever power social metaphor in this franchise. Cate's moral compass is the strongest of the superheroes we've seen in the entire Boys universe so far. She's got those actual Karen powers, but she's the anti-Karen.
She avoids using her power non-consensually in ways that cause permanent harm and even consensually in ways that may help, and given her entry point (similar to Marie, but w/o closure), it makes sense. --This is all the more tragic if she's being used in the way I suspect...given her nightmare/flashback in those opening eps. to having been in "The Woods" (I think it's either she or whoever the puppet show person is in Sam's episodes, that is the reason for the blackouts). She's a Pusher, and much like Andy in Stephen King's Firestarter it takes a heavy toll on the brain...
She's probably not gonna make it through this season, yall. Anyway, all this to say... I am intrigued by this show. And fully invested in these characters. And I like it better than The Boys because it's leaning harder into alienating the elements it's satirizing... The Boys fans are still into the aspects of the show The Boys' narrative is skewering, but Gen V is saying much louder, this is not about you.

Hey, did you guys know that trigger warnings are fucking useless?🙃 Studies have proven that trigger warnings have zero benefits to mental health, and can actually worsen mental health because the nocebo effect. The nocebo effect is the opposite of the placebo effect: Basically, being told something could be bad worsens the experience because you're fixating on the triggers or supposed negative symptoms. This creates a sense of anxiety and paranoia that contributes to the worsening of symptoms.
Not only that but trigger warnings have been known to contribute to the forbidden fruit effect -- AKA reverse psychology. Like when you tell a kid not to watch the very scary, R-rated movie and the first thing they do when they get home is pirate the very scary, R-rated movie to watch on their cellphone.
Or when fanfiction authors add notes that say, "Hey, this fic includes rape and animal death, so don't read if those things trigger you," and then we get yelled at by the 12-year-old puriteens who read the fic anyway🙃
To make matters worse, pearlclutching Christofascists have begun using trigger warnings as an excuse to push for illegal media censorship. You know, the people who claim that their white child will be traumatized if they're forced to learn about all of the horrible things white people did. Hate groups like Moms For Liberty and One Million Moms -- yeah, those people.

Painful realizations
My ex, with whom I spent almost ten yers of my life and I was proud to call myself their wife, told me that they had the realization that they cannot love anyone and they use sex just to keep the person attached and have the comfort and convenience of a stable partner.
This means that they might have never loved me, and they say they don't know if they ever did.
I don't know what to do with this information...I don't know what this says about me...And they are still my BPD fp.
My therapist better be prepared tomorrow. And I'm his first client of the day...

I feel like evangelion has a very "tough love" approach and while it ultimately has a positive and constructive message, "tough love" might not be a good antidote for everyone. :c
I feel like sometimes it will feel like comfort media because it's validates people's suffering by literally showing how everyone suffers. You're not alone in your sadness and you're not alien for suffering. look! others go through it too! it is very human! and yet.... other times the show feels too mean, too cynical, very.....? you're a wimp. buckle up and get a grip sweetheart.
....as people get away with proverbial murder. :' )
I don't know if this resonates with you. but if it does, if maybe eva is your comfort media but is also something else right now, I think you should put your comfort first. pls do literally anything you need to feel okay. you are loved my guy.
Thank you much :) This means a lot.
