harleen quinzel x gn!reader
“are you sure this is a good idea?” you trail behind dr. quinzel. her fast steps rush into her office and she quickly shuts the door behind you.
“what do you mean?” she asks, playing innocent.
“don’t play dumb, doctor. are you sure it’s a good idea to trust the jo-” her eyes sharpen, and you stop yourself, “sorry, patient j.” she sighs, eyes softening. you watch as she almost collapses back into her chair.
“i don’t know, sweetheart. i really don’t.” she rests her elbows on her desk and buries her face in her hands.
“then, maybe call this off? if you don’t know if it’s a good idea…” you kneel next to her, stress pumping through your veins. the last thing you want is for your favorite coworker to go to prison for some lunatic.
“i know, it’s just…” she trails off, “all i know is that my dad needs the surgery to live, and we need money for the surgery. i can’t- i won’t lose my dad, (y/n).” dr. quinzel lifts her head and you see tears start to fall from her eyes. you pull her into a hug and she softly sobs into your shoulder.
“i’m sorry… i didn’t know you were having such a hard time.” you say, feeling tears roll down your face. you feel your heart tighten, knowing there wasn’t much you can do.
she lifts her head and wipes her tears, waving your worry off, “it’s okay, i never told you. what could you do? you make less than me, how could i ask you for money?” she sniffles before laughing softly, looking at the wet spot on your shoulder. silence fills the room and the gravity of the situation weighs on both of you. “you… you won’t tell anyone, right? you’ll keep it between us?” you look into her eyes and your heart beats faster.
“of course, i won’t tell anyone. your secret is safe with me.” you smile and dr. quinzel places a hand on your face, her eyes trail to your lips. you swallow. “it’s just… you’ll be careful, right? patient j isn’t a good person. he’s hurt a lot of people and… i don’t want you to be next, you know?” the warmth of her hand leaves your face as she turns away.
she sighs, “i know. honestly, i’m a little scared too, but i’ll be careful.” she turns back to you with a bright smile, “do you trust me?”
“always.” you grab your clipboard and get up.
“alrighty then, sweetheart, let’s get moving. we have patients to help.” she bumps her hip with yours. you both leave the office, unknowing of what’s to come.

Joker/Harley Quinn: Parenting
+ Character Analysis
Something I've NEVER bought was that Joker didn't notice Harley going missing for a year. And I'm talking about when she was pregnant. There is no way in hell that he didn't notice she wasn't gone.
I'm just saying the Joker is very observant. He's a genius. He'd notice if his favorite little Harlequin went missing. The Joker had a part in creating her, which makes her his. And I SEVERELY doubt the fact that he wouldn't notice his prized creation went missing. I think he would know, and he would have found out easily. He wouldn't let her get away from him that long, especially since he'd (in my opinion) assume she left him.
What I've always wondered is HOW he'd react to being a father. How would he react to having a DAUGHTER? What would he do with her? Leave her alone? Kill her? Track her down and take her for himself? If he decided to keep her, how would he raise her? The idea of the Joker as a father is fascinating, and I'm sure others would be intrigued to see it too.
Because it's canon that the Joker does have paternal instincts. Here are some examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are just a few select examples, but it's enough to show he's capable of being a fairly decent father. He wants the best for his child. He wants his child to have the happy childhood he never had, and it honestly touched me to my very core. The fact that the Joker, the most prolific, terrifying and truly evil villains of Gotham is capable of raising a child in a normal way (at least his level of normalcy) is amazing. I want to see more of it. Because this isn't the only instance of him being a not shitty influence on kids surprisingly enough.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Probably one of, if not my favorite interaction the Joker has had with a child. He's not aggressive, there are no scare tactics, he's not rude, he's genuinely kind. He actively engages and has a conversation with him about his torture bugs and his birthday, giving him a little pep talk about how everyone is a freak to make him feel better. I also just love little weirdo kids.
Though, I don't believe the Joker would waste his time on a child who doesn't want to be evil like him. Who isn't already corrupted and dark. I think if his child wasn't like him, he'd be disappointed. I even think he'd kill said child, which is why I'd love to see him with a child that's like him. Who admires him. Who looks up to him as their hero. I feel like too many people do the trope of "I'm not like my parents, I'm good".
I'd like to see Joker with a daughter, a girl, just to see how he'd react. It's different than raising a boy, that's for sure. And I truly do not know how he'd react to a girl. I guess it just depends on the Joker, really.
But I don't just want the Joker to raise his kid on his own, I want to see Joker and Harley as parents. I want to see what their dynamic would be like while raising a kid.
I don't think we've ever had a real, proper glimpse of the Joker and Harley as parents; not even when they made Joker Jr. That was strictly to toy with Batman's mind, to break him.
I can imagine what Harley would be like as a mother. But, again, this is all my interpretation. I'd love to hear what others think about Joker and Harley being parents. What it'd be like for their kid. What kind of childhood they'd have.
I don't think the Joker would want/have the patience to raise a child (a HUMAN child) from birth to grown adult. The Joker can deal with a lot of things, but constant screaming, crying, shitting, pissing, farting, feeding/making baby food and just having to raise a baby would be hell, and he'd get impatient fast. Even if Harley was the one taking care of her. He'd wait until the kid can at least talk coherently and do things on her own. Like use the restroom. And change clothes. And eat by herself.
Harley would be beyond ecstatic when finding out he actually wants a child, and wants to raise one with her. But at the same time, I feel like she'd still be a little reluctant, because it's the Joker. Harley isn't stupid, we all know this, and I know she'd value her own daughters safety before taking her in to live with them. They would have to have a serious conversation. More serious than either of them have ever been about anything. Having a child and raising one together is a BIG fucking deal, especially since they're both one of the most wanted super criminals in the world/Gotham. Raising a kid while being in their "profession" would be hard as shit, and they both know that. But I know Harley would agree after setting some ground rules.
Harley knows exactly what would happen when/if she brings her daughter to live with them, and to be raised by them. And with a child around, I think the violence on their relationship will die down a bit, but they'd still be just as deranged and brutal as the villains they are, while still being fun. Because they would be such fun parents.
The most important thing for Joker as a father would be his kid having a "good sense of humor", which Harley fully supports. Whether he'd admit it or not, he'd grow a soft spot for his daughter, and just like with Harley, he'd resent her for that. The Joker does not like feeling affection for others. He doesn't like caring for anyone but himself. Which is the main reason he's tried to kill Harley so many times (and that is established in canon). Am I saying that the Joker would magically turn into a better person and become a good guy for his daughter? No. Lmao. The thought is laughable.
And I'm not saying the Joker isn't capable of forming bonds with others. I'm saying the bonds he forms arent healthy. The Joker isn't capable of having a fully functioning healthy relationship. Not with anybody. And that includes Batman. The Joker isn't capable of "healthy". It's just not in his nature. You know that. I know that. And Harley knows that too. Harley isn't capable of forming healthy relationships either, from what I've noticed. She always has unhealthy attachments to others, like Ivy, and Joker. Would the same go for her daughter? Not fully. What's healthy to Joker and Harley is not the normal version of healthy – especially to other parents/people in general.
Another thing is the Joker values himself above all. He is number one. And having a child, something that has his DNA in it, would awaken something in him. A realization. That's his own flesh and blood. There is a part of him in his child. She is a part of him. He made her. With another person.
Joker values his creations more than many things, but a child is a whole new level of creation. This isn't something he created by himself; this is a shared creation. And sharing a creation with someone (especially Harley) THAT big would be a huge eye-opener. Not in the way of him changing morally, but realizing that something isn't only his. It's not just a toy he gets to play with and occasionally lets Harley play with as well, this is their child. Their responsibility. Their flesh and blood combined to make a mini-version of both of them. I want to start writing headcanons and stories, of just more analyses of Harley and Joker as parents, individually or separately, it doesn't matter. Joker and Harley have both been a comfort ship of mine ever since I was little, and their characters are equally as fascinating. I want to rewrite their story, I want to make them into my own and bring their characters back to glory properly.
Thank you for reading my autistic ramblings (I am not saying that to insult autistic people, I am actually autistic and these characters have been my special interests since I was a fetus) and Im always open to discussion about Joker and Harley, or just questions about anything related to DC (that revolves around Batman [specifically Joker and Harley tee-hee] but also about Poison Ivy, Bruce Wayne, Jason Todd, Damien, etc.)

Personal Harley Quinn Show (HBO) Rant
Maybe I’m just a little bitch but I would actually like to see Harley struggle with falling back into bad habits more. Like I think I stopped watching s3 bc her life was honestly too together. Which, I know.
But we see so little of her back and forth because Ivy’s always there and the show runners want a good lesbian relationship, which is totally justified. But with the characters Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, stable is the last thing I expected. Like yeah, totally they’d balance each other out and have consistency, but Harley would still be bouncing off the walls every 5 minutes no matter what Ivy does, and no matter how many dogs or cats Harley shoves in Ivy’s face, deep down all Ivy’s thinking about is destroying human kind, sans Harley. So I’m just really confused by how actually on the same page the two of them are because I’ve never met any two people like that, and maybe it’s possible, but why are they so calm??? I know them to be two characters that spontaneously implode at times and I guess I started finding it more difficult to relate to them the more domestic and mature they got, but I’m also sad that Psycho’s gone.
Not like, really sad, but I miss seeing an asshole every few scenes. It was refreshing and realistic, and honestly I started finding myself more tolerant of others because of him, in some weird way. So the other part that bothers me is that there’s less of a split of focus, which I know is stupid when the show is supposed to be Harley Quinn’s, but it’s basically the Harley and Ivy show already so why can’t I ask for more plots focusing on other characters. The personas they had chosen for others like Batman and the Freezer guy with the dying wife that I’ve temporarily forgotten the name of, are really interesting, and I liked seeing this big entertaining world Harley was exploring. Plus, I think this is a chance to display that weird juxtaposition of how backwards the Gotham culture is and how it’s actually very similar to what modern day culture is becoming, from a broad perspective at least.
And last, I shall speak of sacrilege and say, I don’t think Harley being tempted by Joker is the worst idea plot wise. Like yeah, she’s happy. Yeah, she has no reason to go back. But she’s gonna be growing more distant from Ivy now, just because they can’t spend as much time together, which allows for pervasive thoughts that would just escalate with time. So I don’t think the writers should take a “never going back there” approach and maybe have it be something Harley confronts again. Maybe she doesn’t give in, maybe she never really wants to, but maybe she remembers what it was like to be with him, remembers how he treated her, and begins to doubt the life she has with Ivy (not because he was good). And then Ivy can be there for her, and she can overcome it again. But Joker isn’t something that can just disappear from Harley’s life. Yeah, she has a lot of experience with repression, but we all have those things that just find you time and time again. The kinds of things you confront time and time again in your life, that you get better at overcoming, but still have to face it.
I think real growth for Harley would come from that kind of awareness, to have strength in the face of everything without repressing or ignoring or deluding. I think that might be why I stopped understanding Harley after a certain point, because it seemed like after the first 2 seasons she had really moved on and I didn’t recognize any of the struggles I’ve had in my life anymore. So I guess, I just want her to be more human. Maybe I’m weird, but… idk the show just left me feeling emotionally unresolved more than once.
Also side note, Sy was the craziest person in the show and it should’ve stayed that way.

It took a long time to get there, but Dash quit bullying Danny when he realized he was in love with the little twerp. By the time they were 15, Danny realized that he liked the new and improved Dash, and decided to give him a go and they became boyfriend.
Everything crumbled at 16 when Dash discovered that he was actually adopted, and his biological parents were Harley Quinn and the Joker.
When Danny told his parents about that, his mom looked confused. “Honey,” Maddie began, “Don’t you remember that you’re Batman’s son?”
“What?!” Danny blurted out. “Don’t you think I’d remember something like that?”
“We told you when you were five and you said you didn’t care about that.” Maddie reminded him.
Turns out, Dash wasn’t the only one with surprise parents. Now neither of them knew what to do.

Water drips down in the corner, the steady dop drop drop— does wonders for the bat.
Batman has been taken, tied up, and undressed of his utility belt. It takes him a second to figure out who took him, by the large but empty and run down warehouse, the sound of the shore not far away.
The docks. He shuffles, bound and comm off.
Then, the steel enforced door slams open and Joker enters.
"Batsy!" He calls, overjoyed. The man walks to the bound vigilante and crouches to his height.
"It's been so long, hasn't it been?"
The vigilante grunts. "Joker."
"Today will be different." He goes on, "today, we have," the crime Prince drums his fingers on Batman's thigh. "A guest!"
He freezes at that, Joker has a civilian.
(Oracle sends out the message, her voice firm, and the coords are shared to the rest of the clan in seconds as she looks at her monitor. Batman's red dot at the harbour bright.)
"I'm a guest now?" The voice of a child asks, it brings slight confusion that the boy wasn't tied nor harmed in any way.
It's relief that he seems okay, but the danger of standing next to the Joker has Batman wiggling in his restrains.
"Is that a promotion or demotion for son?"
A brief look of annoyance enters Joker before being smoothed out, the boy is dealing with a delicate time bomb. Uncomfortably close to the madman.
(He hurries in the process of breaking free.)
"My son! My blood!" Sings the clown, throwing his hands around the boy's shoulders and prancing around.
Which brings another question.
Son?
Cool lighting hits the boy's head and the tuffs of pink, blue and green become more obvious, hidden beneath black hair previously.
Joker and Harley have a child. A son.
He will visit harley later. The boy comes first.
"Dante! Danyal! Daniel?" Joker croons, shaking the boy. "What was it again?" He stops, turning his son toward him with a grin.
(Robin drops down behind him, hiding, katana ready to be swung.)
"Danny, actually," the child— Danny– shrugs off the hands and steps back. Unflinching from the judging stare, simply waving off the hands creeping to his throat.
"Danny," the name is tested, and the Prince of Crime hums to himself. "We can always replace it as Joker Jr! It fits you better than Danny."
(Red Robin and Spoiler get on position above them, ready to pounce from the construction pillars.)
"Yeah, I don't know about that." He chuckles nervous, catching Batman's eyes and—
His eyes alone scream of fear, scared– scared—!!
"We will get you an acid flower, a new suit as well, the hoodie looks horrible on you." The man notes, humming.
"I prefer hammers." Danny replies with tense shoulders.
Joker clicks his tongue, "You always went after your mother." he hisses, outright glaring at his son now. His hand tightened around the crowbar he'd gathered not long ago.
"I mean," he hesitates, eye trailing off the Joker and over his shoulder. "I did come out of her."
The sound of a loaded gun shatters the silence, and Joker is pulling Danny, switching their positions and pushing him right in front of the gun in Red Hood's hand.
"Always a coward, hiding behind others, aren't you." Danny stops himself from squealing. That's the Red Hood!
(Escrima sticks light up with electricity as Red Hood speaks.)
Joker is ticked off, party ruined and surrounded now that he looks around.
Oh well, he can get his son on his villain path another day.
Cackling, he evades the escrimas, dodging the wonder boy and evading the twin attacks from above.
He pulls out a trigger and presses the bright red Button.
"Have fun bats and birds!"
The warehouse is completely flooded with fear gas, scarecrow wouldn't be mad he sacrificed one of his warehouses, will he?
It's all blurry. In one moment, his view is shrouded, and he's coughing. In another, he gets picked up and brought outside, the Joker gone.
An oxygen mask is placed on him by a paramedic, being handed off to an ambulance that had been called.
Peeking around, he sees Red Hood (!) still lingering around. Danny catches his eye and with a wave, the man is walking towards him.
He simply crosses his arms and tilts his head, waiting.
"Could I get a picture?" Danny blurts out, flushing after and coughing, holding the oxygen mask in his lap.
Red Hood makes a show of his shoulder sagging before crouching down and leaning toward him.
Later, Danny will look at the picture with a boyish grin, crooked and charming.
