Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln, Nebraska. West-facing panel at northwest corner of building, titled "Deborah Judging Israel". Ammodramus  CC0
I am so easily distracted. Looking for Deborah of Bible fame I saw this image which led to discovering the Nebraska State Capitol building. I knew nothing about this exceptional building. There’s enough at the link for hours of attention.

Modernism Lite
Above: “The Fountain of Youth” mural by Ezra Winter in the Main Foyer of Radio City Music Hall. (Architectural Digest) The opening of two new theaters at Rockefeller Center no doubt brightened a few souls at the start of 1933, but art and architecture critic Lewis Mumford wasn’t particularly dazzled by the “watered-down” modernism of the buildings’ much-ballyhooed decor. Art on the Rockefeller Center, Manhattan
In November 1931, John Todd suggested the creation of a program for placing distinctive artworks within each of the buildings. Hartley Burr Alexander, a noted mythology and symbology professor, was tasked with planning the complex's arts installations. Alexander submitted his plan for the site's artwork in December 1932. As part of the proposal, the complex would have a variety of sculptures, statues, murals, friezes, decorative fountains, and mosaics. In an expansion of Hood's setback-garden plan, Alexander's proposal also included rooftop gardens atop all the buildings, which would create a "Babylonian garden" when viewed from above.
At first, Alexander suggested "Homo Fabor, Man the Builder" as the complex's overarching theme, representing satisfaction with one's occupation rather than with the wage. However, that theme was not particularly well received by the architects, so Alexander proposed another theme, the "New Frontiers"; this theme dealt with social and scientific innovations and represented the challenges that humanity faced "after the conquest of the physical world". In theory, this was considered a fitting theme, but Alexander had been so specific about the details of the necessary artworks that it limited the creative license for any artists who would be commissioned for such works, so he was fired. It took several tries to agree on the current theme, "The March of Civilization", at which point some of the art had already been commissioned, including those which Alexander had proposed.
The art that currently exists within Rockefeller Center was inspired by Professor Alexander's arts program. Sculptor Lee Lawrie contributed the largest number of individual pieces – twelve, including the Atlas statue facing Fifth Avenue and the conspicuous friezes of Wisdom above the main entrance to 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Edward Trumbull coordinated the colors of the works located inside the buildings, and Léon-Victor Solon did the same job for the exterior pieces. Isamu Noguchi's gleaming stainless steel bas-relief, News, over the main entrance to 50 Rockefeller Plaza (the Associated Press Building) was, at the time of commissioning, the largest metal bas-relief in the world. The complex's other sculptors included Rene Chambellan, Leo Friedlander, Robert Garrison, Alfred Janniot, Carl Paul Jennewein, Gaston Lachaise, Leo Lentelli, Paul Manship, Giacomo Manzù, Hildreth Meiere, and Attilio Piccirilli. Other artists included Carl Milles, Margaret Bourke-White, and Dean Cornwell. Radio City Music Hall architect Donald Deskey commissioned many Depression-era artists to design works for the interior of the hall, including Stuart Davis's 1932 mural Men Without Women, named after the short story collection by Ernest Hemingway that had been published the same year. One of the center's more controversial works was Man at the Crossroads, created by Diego Rivera, which was originally commissioned for 30 Rockefeller Plaza's lobby but was demolished before it could be completed.

The Vestibule of the Nebraska State Capitol introduces the decorative themes of the interior ornamentation of the capitol and represents Gifts of Nature. The sun is prominently featured as a medallion within the dome which also features mosaic images of agriculture, flora, and fauna. The text around the dome reads:
Behold, they come as householders bringing earth’s first fruits, rejoicing that the soil hath rewarded their labors with the abundance of its seasons.
Hildreth Meière worked with Dr. Hartley Burr Alexander of the University of Nebraska's department of philosophy to execute a comprehensive thematic scheme throughout the building. She drew inspiration from the magnificent cathedral in Siena, Italy after she and Alexander toured the church in 1925.

Hamilton west end
Guess who wrote this months ago but forgot and left it in her drafts
Matinee, 21/2/19 - the little details
SPOILER WARNING? For the staging I guess?
-firstly there were two understudies on: Ellena Vincent as Angelica Schuyler, and Waylon Jacobs as Lafayette/Jefferson AND THEY KILLED IT! Ellena was a stunning Angelica, and Waylon was hilarious as Jefferson
- Alexander(Jamael Westman) is so tall (he was practically crouching next to me at stage door for a photo) and Eliza (Rachelle Ann Go) barely reached his shoulder which I should not have been laughing at during take a break with Angelica and Eliza on either side of him looking actually child sized
- Mulligan (Tarinn Callender) high pitched voice for the 'come again' in Aaron Burr, Sir and the 'man??!!!' in Story of Tonight (reprise)
- King George (Jon Robyns) has such a nasally voice and I loVE IT. THE Perfect balance between petulant child and sinister-ness , also my mum's favourite character
- PEGGY AND MULLIGAN GRINDING DURING HELPLESS
- Satisfied: God is a woman and her name is Ellena Vicent
- Ham's 'oh shit' in Story of Tonight (reprise) was basically that daymmmmn meme. So Great.
- Wait for it killed me. Burr's (Sifiso Mazibuko) riffs were on fire!
- the gunshots in in Yorktown (and in general) are so loud and go right through you, it's a weird feeling
- lighting design in Yorktown was amazing and so was Mulligan (Tarinn was also incredibly friendly and great at stage door)
- I'm a cellist so hearing the cello solos in Yorktown and Say no to this live was an out of body experience, legit is my dream to play the cello in the Hamilton band because it's such a great part
- King George stomping his foot and the lights changing blue for 'i'm so blue' in what comes next made me wheeze
- Ham was so extra for non-stop, so many flourishes, like the funky little kick Gretchen does at the end of meet the plastics but 10x better
I was crying too much in act two to remember a lot of the details but here's the main things I noted:
- the wall that's broken in act one is complete for act 2 and if it's some metaphor for America idk but that's a cool detail
- Eliza's beatboxing while visually encouraging Philip on was adorable
- The BIGGEST eye roll from Ham after the King Louis head lines
- Alex was actually so done in all the cabinet battles also that mic drop might be the best thing to ever happen, period.
- I was a bit worried that Washington (Dom Hartley-Harris) was going to hold back a bit during One last time because it was a matinee but Jesus, he was freaking fantastic
- the lighting design in Hurricane is phenomenal, it makes everything seem so ethereal
- King George waved to Burr at the beginning of the Adams administration, not really sure how that works but it was hilarious
- Maria hands Hamilton the quill to write the Reynolds pamphlet!?
- idk the fact that they made specific costumes for the fake play that features for like 30s in Blow us all away just gets to me
- the heartbeats while Philip and Ham are dying are really noticeable in the theatre, especially when they stop so yeah thanks Hamilton sound designer, I didn't need my heart anyway
- Rachel Ann Go's Eliza is everything to me and I sobbed buckets during Who lives, who dies, who tells your story?
- I stage-doored for the first time and it was great, though alleyways are really cold and windy in England in February and I had to put the flash on for photos so my face is completely white with bright red cheeks in my pictures so thats great
