From the book: 証言と遺言
Two names today. 飯島 is usually read Iijima, but can potentially be Iishima, Ijima, Ihijima, Hashima, or Meshijima. 平山 is usually Hirayama but can potentially be Heizan.
飯 is a character I always like to see in a name. It means (cooked) rice or, by extension, food. Outside names, it's read めし or ハン.
島 means island, and it's read しま or トウ.
平 means flat, even, or peace. It's read たい.ら, たい.らげる, ひら, ヘイ, ビョウ, or ヒョウ.
山 means mountain and it's read やま, サン, or セン. So..... flat mountain? It kinda reminds me of my time in Kansai, when I'd ask people for directions and they'd say, pointing at a hill, "Now, go up that mountain there..." I wonder if that was a dialect thing, or if my Japanese wasn't good enough and they assumed I wouldn't know the word for hill.
For @todayintokyo, who likes Nagasaki seaside but doesn’t want to see fish ;) A delicious rice flour bread roll for breakfast on a short boat tour. We went to see this island, which is officially named Hashima but commonly known as Gunkanjima (Battleship Island) because, well, look at it!
Hashima is now a ghost town, but it was settled as an offshore mining facility in the late 1880s and abandoned upon the depletion of coal in the 1970s. It is a super eerie place to visit, and entry/tours are strictly regulated both because of rough sea conditions and because the buildings are in such a state of disrepair. We visited two days after the very serious Typhoon 14, so we were unable to go ashore this time, but I should dig up my pictures from 2010......
It's me again, the one who asked for the kokomi with a reader who loves her. Well since your ask box is open again can I request the reader and kokomi going on a first date and what they'd do for it?
Going On A Date With Kokomi
Going on a first date with Kokomi would be so sweet.
She was always working so hard, so you were the one to plan everything to give her a break.
You took her out at sunset, the two of you talking about your days as you headed to the special location you had picked.
It was a beautiful cliff on the island, and you already had a fluffy picnic blanket with pillows and a basket full of food set up for the two of you.
The two of you sat and ate your assortment of snacks, talking and laughing for hours.
You talked about everything from her work, to both of your childhoods. There was never a dull awkward moment between the two of you. You both always had something to say.
You truly haven't felt more alive than you did at that moment. You knew that Kokomi was the one when she turned her head and smiled at you that night. The way the moonlight illuminated her made her even more beautiful than she already was.
You two ended the night laying back on the blanket, staring up at the stars and talking about what you want your future to be like. You spoke about your dreams, your hopes, and your plans.
When you walked her back to her home, you stopped her just before she went to turn in for the night.
You were the one to lean in and leave a quick kiss on her lips, but she was the one to kiss you a second time, making it a much sweeter one before saying goodnight to you.
I'm glad to see you back! I love Kokomi so much <3 I hope you enjoy!
