Summary
Playboy Kai definitely knows his way around girls' hearts, but when he has a run-in with tomboy Riko, he may be in for more than he bargained for! Riko clearly doesn't fit Kai's usual type of girl: she's short-tempered, scary, and can (has) easily beat him up. There's no way a rough and tumble girl like Riko is capable of a delicate feeling like love! So imagine his surprise when he finds out about her secret, one-sided crush... But it's none of his concern, right?
Review
This is a new favorite of mine. I loved this series, especially how the main two relationships were handled.
I love that this is mostly from Kai’s POV, he is the main central character, his feeling and concerns are the ones we follow the most as he tries to understand his own feelings and then as he tries to help Riko with hers all while determined to win her heart. Their roles are slightly revered in that she is the more stoic one and he the more emotional one. Honestly I really love how Kai is written, he is a wonderfully written character.
Riko is an all around great gal, she is a champion to all the girls and takes no nonsense from anyone. Her crush is sweet, I really like the back story and it is totally understandable why she thinks she is in love with him, he is a safe choice for her and honestly I don’t blame her, he is a great guy too! This series is filled with kind wholesome characters. Another winner for my shoujo loving heart!

The names of Gintoki and Tsukuyo’s children
Tumblr media
Art by 温度計
I’ve been thinking about the names of Gintoki and Tsukuyo’s children and I know it’s the typical shippy stuff and I should be doing something productive BUT ANYWAY please listen:
It’s fanon that they’ve twins since Red Spider arc. Preferably a boy and a girl.
Tsukuyo and Gintoki’s names are based on myths/legends (Tsukuyomi and Sakata no Kintoki respectively).
Therefore, their children’s names should be based on myths/legends that are siblings.
After some research I came to the conclusion that the two gods of Japanese mythology that fit the best are Haniyasu-hiko and Haniyasu-hime for the following reasons:
They’re the children of Izanagi and Izanami, one of the most prominent gods, creator deities of life and death, paralleling Gintoki and Tsukuyo’s ties to those elements as hardened warriors and protectors.
Haniyasu-hiko and Haniyasu-hime are siblings. One is known as the God of courage and strength while the other is the Goddess of love, devotion, and spirit, embodying both Gintoki and Tsukuyo in their desire to protect the people they care about.
They were born from Izanami's feces, so apart from having a deep meaning it’s also a poop joke lmao
Since all names have little variations in Gintama, I would change the previously established names to (sorry if I mess up the kanji) Haruhiko (春彦) and Hanahime (花姫).

Summary
On the heels of his inadvertent slip (which went right over Riko's head), Kai's spiraling into depression all over again. He's so befuddled with thoughts of Riko, he even fails one of his finals! While he's preoccupied with makeup exams, his friends are still determined to make Kai and Riko a couple. So when a study group is formed, guess who turns out to be Kai's tutor...Will this study session cover an extra subject-love?!
Review
Kai finally gets the chance to confess to Riko, but it goes over her head. Kai can’t believe it, but at least Riko thinks he is a nice guy now. At least he has changed her impression of him, that is a start. Kai’s family and friends notice he is distracted (his little niece and nephew are so adorable!!) and this leads to Kai failing a test and needing to take a makeup test along with Mikki, Kiyo, and Kagura. The others offer to help them study and everyone meets at Tora’s temple to study...
Shimura has decided to help the boys as they try and help Kai and Riko become a couple, unbeknownst to either of them.  It is cute to see their efforts to get the two together. It is also cute to see Riko try and help Kai with his girl troubles, when she is the girl! Riko does see Kai in a new light as a friend now, so some progress has been made.
Kai wants to be someone who Riko can love, but first he needs to understand how others see him. In his effort to try and change himself to appeal to Riko ... in the meantime he mistakenly thinks Riko is interested in his best friend ... the one person he doesn’t think he can compete against. Kai, thinking he has lost is determined to get over Riko by going back to his old ways. This concerns his friends and surprisingly Riko, who is irritated by Kai’s playboy attitude although she doesn’t understand why...

What's In a Name? Part 25
On The Seventh Day of Fun I present... an addition to the oldest series! You'd think I'd be running out of kanji by now, and I admit that it's getting harder to find ones that I haven't covered, but you're in luck as here's a few that have yet to see the spotlight! Maru - 丸 Prefix or Suffix: Both Old Meaning: Circle New (Standardized) Meaning: Circle Found In: All Five Kagai A very masculine kanji, its main meaning is that of a circle, but it's also used as a suffix in the naming of important objects, such as ships, swords, musical instruments, etc. For these examples we'll be keeping to the main meaning, but just keep in mind the second meaning when thinking about how a person can present with that name. Examples 八重丸 Yaemaru (Gion Kobu): "Multi-Layered Circle," pretty straightforward yet also quite poetic. 千恵丸 Chiemaru (Pontocho): "1,000 Blessed Circles," this one's really neat as Maru has another hidden meaning: that of money! So, this could also translate as "1,000 Blessed Coins"! 勝丸 Katsumaru (Kamishichiken): "Victorious Circle," This is an extremely masculine name that likens to that of a battleship! 丸代 Maruyo (Miyagawa Cho): "Circular Era," let's do the time warp again? 福丸 Fukumaru (Gion Higashi): "Lucky Circle," like with the example of Chiemaru, this one could also use the hidden meaning of money and mean "Lucky Coin"! Hatsu - 初 Prefix or Suffix: Both Old Meaning: First New (Standardized) Meaning: First Found In: Gion Kobu, Pontocho, and Gion Higashi Hatsu is the kanji of firsts for events and milestones. Since people in Japan are celebrating Hatsumōde 初詣, the first shrine visits of the year, today it's quite the appropriate kanji. Examples 初福 Hatsufuku (Gion Kobu): "Beginner's Luck," plainly this one could mean "First Luck," but it's easier to translate it as the above. 豆初 Mamehatsu (Pontocho): "New Bean," since it's being used as a suffix it's describing the bean in this case, but it could also mean "First Bean." 初子 Hatsuko (Gion Higashi): "First Child," pretty straightforward, could also mean "Firstborn." Ji/Haru - 治 Prefix or Suffix: Suffix Old Meaning: Reign, Peace, or Heal New (Standardized) Meaning: Reign, Peace, or Heal Found In: All Five Kagai This kanji's a bit on the archaic side and doesn't have a very clear meaning, but it's a gentle kanji that brings prosperity. Examples 長治 Chōji (Gion Kobu): "Long Reign," this one could also mean "Long Peace." 幸治 Yukiharu (Pontocho): "Peaceful Happiness," pretty straightforward but a very happy sounding name! 秀治 Hideji (Kamishichiken): "Excellent Ruler," this meaning seemed to fit the best with the paired kanji. 美代治 Miyoharu (Miyagawa Cho): "Era of a Beautiful Rule(r)," this one can be mixed around to make a few combinations, but this one came out sounding the best. 豊治 Toyoji (Gion Higashi): "Excellent Reign," the meaning is nearly identical to that of Hideji, but "豊" can also mean "Wealth," so another meaning for this name can be "Wealthy Reign/Ruler."

Note
miharu's concept is so cool!! could you tell us how you chose her name?
miharu’s given name is written as 三久, which can be more easily misread as ‘mihisa’ or ‘miku’ (久 as haru is a very rare reading of the kanji compared to the other two)
‘ubu’ in ubumiya is written as 初, which is also the ‘hatsu’ in hatsune
