To those who want me to make #dubstep music again, where the fuck were you in 2012? GoBoy 2 (dubstep album) has a passionate, microscopic fan base that didn’t share it with anyone. If you like something that somebody makes, share it.

“#Rainbow #Victory” is meant to be a tongue in cheek #cringe song. The chorus melody came to mind while taking a bath, and while it normally takes a few hours or days to come up with lyrics for a melody, I knew right away that the lyrics would repeat the words “I have come to be rainbow victory.”

Growing up with female cousins that adamantly think you’re gay can be pretty annoying when you’re a child. Luckily, that annoyance blossomed into gay humor as an adult, “Rainbow Victory” being an offspring of that humor, rather than hostility. I couldn’t care less whether any of my family or friends came out as gay. I‘d probably applaud them for having the balls to openly be themselves.

While mixing songs, something entertaining is always playing in the background for extra brain stimulation, whether that be a movie, tv series, a video game play through, podcast, etc. Anything but music, because I can’t mix music while listening to other music. While mixing “Rainbow Victory” I watched @thaRadBrad play through #DeathStranding, which is a super unique, cinematic game. It’s no #GodofWar or #TheLastofUs, but it’s definitely memorable.

It was around this time that GoBoy’s production process changed. Going forward, instrument tracks would be created AFTER the vocals were mixed. That way, I could ensure that the beat and instruments meshed with the vocals. After all, in GoBoy songs, the melody is the most important part, and the instruments only exist to support it. This new production process would be used for every song on GoBoy 6 and beyond.

Normal human problems don’t vanish during production. Anxiety was strong during the making of “Rainbow Victory” (caused by other things in life, not this song). So strong, I had to stop midway through and take a few hours to sort out my thoughts.

About eight months after this song’s original release, it was replaced with a new version that contained two new vocal melodies, the “take one great big bite out of my short life” and “give me something that I’ll get through” segments. The song sorely needed some variety, and this new version scratched that itch.

For GoBoy song titles, I try to choose two-word combinations that are somewhat catchy on their own, i.e. Hippie Love, Erotic Memories, Magic Unicorn, Dragon Fire, Money Monster, Rainbow Victory.

One of the goals for “Rainbow Victory” was to make something that could be memeable, being a fan of meme songs. Something totally ridiculous, but catchy. If you want an example of a meme song, you can find playlists of them on YouTube and music streaming services. The whole meme song idea was utilized for a number of other songs on GoBoy 4 and 5, such as “Baby Blue,” “Dragon Fire,” “Coffee Song” and “Dick” (excerpts from post 69).

Beat + bass + melody. That’s the style of GoBoy 5. While I’ve appreciated this minimalistic style for years, “Tell My Mama (Song 42)” was the first time trying it. I went whole-hog with GoBoy 5, in which most songs primarily consist of a beat, bass and melody (excerpt from post 80).

For GoBoy 5, instead of creating for the sake of creating, like I did for GoBoy 4, I wanted to make poppier songs that would appeal to a larger audience. Was that goal accomplished? Well, maybe, I guess. It resulted in the song “In Love (Song 82),” which everyone and their mother seems to like (excerpt from post 79).

GoBoy 5 ragdolled me. I remember wondering if I’d live to see the completion of the album. While the style is minimalistic, the writing and production processes were chaotic, akin to throwing darts with a blindfold on. Most songs turned into a puzzle once they reached the mixing phase, with a portion of the pieces being destined not to fit. It required constant compromising - discarding segments, restructuring, rewriting, etc. The combination of the difficult production process and temporary chaos at work left a blood-soaked trail behind me (excerpt from post 80).

In April, 2021, almost all of GoBoy 3, 4 and 5‘s songs were restructured to be under 3 minutes (preferably under 2m 30s), including this song. I became okay with releasing songs around the 2 min mark after realizing The Beatles and The Beach Boys had some songs around that length. In an attempt to increase replay value in this streaming era, most of GoBoy’s songs are now purposely around 2m 20s (excerpts from post 37).

A bass boost was added to songs 37-99 in Nov, 2021, while I was stuck at home with covid. As a result, this song feels more powerful. The bass boost isn’t a simple plugin nonchalantly added to each song. It’s a process that took about 3.5 hours per song, or one whole month to complete all songs. Admittedly, I pushed the bass boost a little too far for some of them. The bass in some songs sounds like a freaking earthquake (unnecessarily pronounced low frequencies 20 - 50 Hz). Might dial that back someday. The bass boost was also applied to every song on GoBoy 6 and beyond (excerpt from post 37).

Rendog appreciation post

Okay. Purple Pandas did amazing as a team but I currently only have the brain juice to ramble about Ren, so here it is.

Ren is lovely and positive as always. He’s so excited for MCC no matter what happens, and he’s so happy that he gets to team with Purple. He heartily welcomes Illumina into the team (probably because he already knows the other two) (Ren also did the exact same thing for Pearl in MCC8). From the beginning, Ren is doing what he does best— being the glue/ middleman.

His pep talk on the pink flamingo was great because it literally established the mood. I don’t know if Purple talked about this off camera, but they’re literally telling the audience their goal is to place top half, do their best and have fun. This establishes a chill and supportive vibe across all four chats. Because they’re not being totally sweaty or totally playing for fun. They’re just gonna do their best because they think they’re a good team, but they’re not ambitious enough to aim too high.

I’ve been talking about how Purple15 reminds me of a weaker Blue9, and then it sort of happened:

OKAY so time to talk about the Famous Sands Of Time

I was watching Martyn’s stream because Ren’s stream coincidentally chose to lag, but even though I couldn’t see Ren, his talk about time and sand was clear and comforting. Like, everyone knew how much time / sand they had left, and Ren kept it very calm, like only calling for sand when he really needed it without keeping it too late. Thankfully, someone was always there to give Ren sand, which stopped them from mass panicking.

Ren literally used H’s strats that H taught him for MCC9– clearly calling out time and sand left. This is a general strat, but it’s significant because Ren learned this from H and greatly benefited from it, and now he’s using it on his own. With Ren’s clear and confident words, the team could decide whether they wanted to take risks based on time. Ren was also great at coordinating, with him and Martyn smoothly passing sand/ the vault key.

That’s not to say their SoT was flawless. Illumina died, Ren was a little confused on how to revive him (exact same scenario in MCC12 lmao except that time we were blessed with False crossly calling Ren a dummy), they didn’t know how to put sand into the coin vault thing, and it was their first time playing the NEW SoT in a long time, but despite that, they got first!! They aren’t even a traditionally strong SoT team. They were just… “decent” in other people’s eyes. But no, they were like “oh we missed some coins :(“ AND THEY GOT FIRST.

So now onto Hole in the Wall.

Illumina understandably muted for better concentration, and in hindsight I probably should’ve worried. Because the trio’s without their ace and since the hermits historically sort of depend on their star player, this might not go Very Well. But for some reason I was like “oh Illumina’s muting, cool, these three can do it, no biggie”. My gut feeling was right.

(I also had a terrible, terrible feeling when SG was chosen despite their confidence, so maybe my gut feeling is fairly accurate lol)

I think Ren and False and Martyn actually did really well, and they communicated clearly. It was almost satisfying to watch even though their actual performance wasn’t that satisfying. Ren happily acted as the middleman between False and Martyn, and he made the synergy really good. This was especially nice to watch as one of those Ren-Martyn-False founders on tumblr because this proves they get along really well.

I noticed Ren said at the beginning he works best with leaders, and then he sort of became a leader himself using H strats lol (HBomb in spirit). He also kept on asking others what games they wanted, essentially giving them the reigns, which actually works well with this team because Illumina is a little shy. It’s like he’s bringing the conversation back to choosing the games and offering everyone a chance to discuss without like, saying “we should play so and so”. It relieves the pressure of having one person to decide the game. Especially when the hermits have a history of relying on their star player.

Ren is of course wicked at boosting morale, and I think he’s invaluable as support. His team’s POV is always nice to watch because he rarely gets disheartened and literally always has something nice to say. I said Blue9 was great because someone could finally boost Ren in the way he boosted others (H), and H and Ren bounced off each other amazingly. Now, I think Martyn has also met someone who could boost him in the way he boosted others (Ren). Martyn and Ren combined could come up with a tiny bit of the HBomb effect lol.

This post was intended to be about Ren but I ended up dragging the rest of Purple into it lmao.

Anyways, I just really enjoy Purple15, and Ren even called it one of his favourite teams, and I’m so proud of them. They genuinely did their best, chose to risk it, and then when it failed they didn’t have any regrets :D

All things being equal, most of the Matsuno sextuplets are more than happy to be done with the ear infections they got as children.

Because the reality is, those things suck. All any of them ever did when they had an ear infection was cry and cry and cry. Even now, just the mention of those things makes them all wince and grab their heads as if a phantom pain is back to haunt them. They can all count on one hand the number of ear infections they’ve had since adulthood, thankfully.

Then there’s Karamatsu. The good news is that every time he goes to the doctor with an ear infection, she says they’re not quite frequent enough to be concerned; the worry would start if he had, say, four or more in a year or three or more within six months. Ear infections normal develop after a cold, which they all catch like clockwork at least once a year, and it seems like he’s just a little more prone to getting the ear infections than his brothers.

The bad news is that when he does get one, typically once a year or once every couple years, it seems to completely knock him out. Every bit of ‘coolness’ drains out and leaves him almost a shell of his usual persona.

It makes him completely unbearable to be around, as usual, but… for a different reason.

After all, it’s not like any of them are heartless. Seeing Karamatsu in so much pain is something none of them can stand for very long. Having an ear infection means he’s constantly anxious, particularly when it flares up badly enough that he can’t hear well, he cries a lot because he’s uncomfortable, and that kicked-puppy face of his just can��t be said no to.

Thankfully, even though he panics a lot and even though he’s hurting, he’s not a terrible patient. He takes medicine when it’s time for it without much fuss, and tries his best to sleep as much as he can.

Although everyone has been taking turns sitting in the spare room trying to comfort him as much as possible, it seems that today, Choromatsu and Ichimatsu have been the ones who’ve stuck. It just happens like that sometimes. It’s strange given that Ichimatsu would often choose others’ company than these two, and yet, nobody is really complaining.

For the most part, the two of them try to keep things quiet so their older brother can rest. The situation gives Choromatsu and Ichimatsu something to focus on so things don’t get awkward between them, just attempting to keep Karamatsu as comfortable as they can. Choromatsu has kept closer to the sofa, sitting on the floor and reading a book, so that Karamatsu can just tap him on the shoulder if he needs something. Ichimatsu is farther away near the window, with one of the cats in his lap, though he’s keeping an eye out as well just in case.

Sadly, Karamatsu has spent most of the day tossing and turning. His tendency to get fevers when ill means he’s running a temperature, which makes him restless and miserable. Combined with the pain in his ear, the lingering cough from his cold, and the fact that he’s having trouble hearing, the day is just terrible.

He even feels in a shitty mood, the kind where literally everything bothers him. That he hasn’t gotten much sleep doesn’t help matters. Every so often Choromatsu will pause in his reading and ask if there’s anything he needs. There’s no logical reason for that to upset him; in fact, on any other day, it would make him feel loved. Today, it’s aggravating the fuck out of him.

That’s more disheartening than anything, he thinks. For once his brothers are paying attention and trying to take care of him. Why should that make him angry? He loves his brothers with his entire being and enjoys their company. His true self is happy that Choromatsu is trying to look after him. The part of him that’s irritable from the ear infection wishes his little brother wouldn’t ask him if he’s okay every five minutes. (Even though he knows that’s exaggerating.)

He’s not okay. What he needs is for this ear infection to be gone, and he knows that’s not anything feasible that any of his brothers can do for him, so being asked when all he really wants is something impossible is frustrating.

He squeezes his eyes shut in a feeble attempt to get some damn sleep. Sometimes being rested helps when one is sick, although it’s certainly not coming easily. As soon as his eyes are closed, he feels dizzy. Like the whole world is swaying. It’s not horrible enough to make him think the problem has spread deeper ― in the past, some of these middle ear infections have turned into infections of the inner ear, which make him excruciatingly dizzy and nauseous, so he knows what that feels like. It’s not that bad, but it’s there a little bit, particularly when his eyes are closed.

Put together with everything else, it tips the scales into making him start to cry.

He’s not sure how long he’s been crying when suddenly there’s a hand on his shoulder and a muffled shouting, like someone is trying to talk to him while he’s underwater. His whole being jumps, turning to look toward his brothers.

Choromatsu is the one with the hand on him, though both he and Ichimatsu are looking at Karamatsu with concern. When Choromatsu opens his mouth to speak, it sounds the same as a moment before despite the fact that he’s clearly raising his voice quite a bit. At least this time he can tell that his younger brother is saying his name, followed by, “Can you hear me??”, he thinks.

A jolt of pain in his ear makes it obvious what’s causing this. The infection is flaring up and affecting his hearing, enough that he’s straining to hear his brother yelling.

His hands immediately fly up to his ears, and a strangled yelp leaves him when he touches them, an agonizing reminder that even the skin around them is sore. He can’t help but curl in on himself, whimpering. More tears drip down, and he shakes his head, managing a quiet, “B-barely,” in response.

Choromatsu frowns, gently squeezing Karamatsu’s shoulder. Although Karamatsu can’t really hear the conversation, he turns toward Ichimatsu with a sympathetic wince and sighs, “Okay, let’s try something else.”

“Ow, ow, ow…” Karamatsu mumbles for a moment, doing his best to avoid grabbing at his head. It just hurts so bad, and he’s pissed at Choromatsu for trying to talk to him right now, but he’s too tired to be actually pissed. It’s like when you have a drink with ice, then the ice melts after you’re done, and you’re left with some water that tastes vaguely like whatever you were drinking. That’s how his anger feels, weak and watered-down.

Before he knows it, his shoulder is being patted, and a notepad is pushed into his lap. On the page is Choromatsu’s neat handwriting.

Hey, both Ichimatsu and I were calling you for a few minutes. No worries, I just wanted to let you know it’s time for more Calonal and ear drops if you need either of those.

How come you’re crying? What’s wrong?

Karamatsu wishes he could scrape up the energy to be mad. Shouldn’t Choromatsu know what’s wrong? Is he really that dense? Doesn’t he remember how fucking awful it is to have an ear infection, to not be able to hear things properly, to have that sharp pain in your ears, to be emotional from a fever, to not be able to sleep, to feel like your head is so full it’s going to explode?

However, he does his best not to snap at his brother. A deep breath calms his nerves a little, and he reminds himself that Choromatsu probably just doesn’t want to be presumptuous, acting like he knows what’s wrong or what Karamatsu wants or needs. Most likely Choromatsu is trying to confirm what’s going on so he knows what to offer.

It’s also a bit of a relief that it’s time for medicine. The Calonal and prescription ear drops take the edge off all his pain enough that he can relax a little. Maybe shortly after all that is in his system, he can get some sleep; sleep is the best thing when he feels like crap.

He gets the feeling that his voice sounds terrible right now, so he grasps he notebook and reaches for the pen, which Choromatsu mercifully hands over. His own handwriting is a little messier than usual and his words are simpler, though he’s sure it can be forgiven.

I hate this. My ears hurt so badly, and it’s like I’m trying to hear you through a pillow over my head. I didn’t hear you until you shook me and were shouting. I keep feeling hot and cold and switching back and forth. I’m so uncomfortable.

I think I need Calonal and the ear drops.

Choromatsu takes the notepad back for a moment, then nods. The smile he gives Karamatsu is sort of anxious, but he’s undoubtedly trying to give his big brother some comfort in any way he can.

Within a moment the pad is displayed back to him. That’s no problem. I’ll go get them. Do you want one Calonal or two?

Two, if I’m allowed.

Yep, two is good if you’re really in pain. You need a drink to take them, do you want water or tea or something else?

Tea, please.

You got it. I’ll be back in a few minutes, and I’ll leave this here so you can let Ichimatsu know if you need anything, okay?

Okay. Thank you.

It’s no problem. I’ll be back soon.

With that, Choromatsu gets to his feet and gestures for Ichimatsu. “Hey, Ichi. I’m gonna go get Kara’s medicine. He’s not hearing that well right now, and it doesn’t seem like he really wants to speak… so if you need to say anything to him or want him to talk to you, it looks like the notepad is the best thing. I should only be like ten minutes, though.”

“Oh… uh. Okay.” Ichimatsu stands up as well, setting his cat down near the window so she can bask in the sun. Probably better that he doesn’t have the cats near Karamatsu when he isn’t feeling good. “I’ll move over here for a little bit till you get back.”

“Great. Thanks for keeping an eye on him.” Choromatsu gives Ichimatsu a brief hug, kisses Karamatsu’s head, and then scurries out of the room to get everything together.

Everything is quiet for a long minute. If Ichimatsu is awkward with Choromatsu, it’s even worse with Karamatsu. He’s bad at connecting with Karamatsu on good days, they don’t always get along, but… it’s worse when Karamatsu feels poorly, because seeing him like this reminds Ichimatsu that he really does love his brother. He wants to help, and just doesn’t know what to do.

Karamatsu, on the other hand, is only able to whine softly and curl in on himself, frustrated by everything. Being so sick means he can’t do any of the things he loves, and even worse, it’s difficult to accept his brothers’ comfort. He feels reassured by hearing things, being able to listen to someone telling him they love him and they’re here and they’re going to take care of him.

Reading it, though still a solace, feels so bland. He can’t hear or feel someone’s personality through that. In most other ways he’s a visual person, and yet for this, it’s different.

After a moment, the notepad is poked into his arm, drawing his eyes down to the page.

Hey. I’m sorry you feel so shitty. Ear infections are the fucking worst.

He sniffles a bit, rubbing his tears away as best he can. It feels like he’s such a baby, crying over this… at least the others understand how miserable it is, trying to make him feel like he’s not being dramatic. If nothing else, Ichimatsu isn’t judging him for weeping over it.

It’s not your fault. You don’t need to be sorry. But thank you.

Yeah. Hopefully the ear drops and Calonal will help. Ichimatsu taps the pen against the pad for a few seconds; if he were speaking, it would probably signify an ‘uh’ or ‘um’. Is there anything I can do to help while Choro is getting that stuff?

It’s Karamatsu’s turn to hesitate with the pen. Aside from wanting the whole illness to be over, there’s one thing that might soothe him. He’s a little afraid to ask for it, just because he doesn’t know if Ichimatsu would be annoyed with him for it. If Ichimatsu is offering, though…

Could I have a hug? Maybe a long one?

It looks like his little brother is kind of startled by the request. Ichimatsu’s eyes go wide, and he blinks a few times. “Uh.” Karamatsu more sees the sound than hears it. To his ears, it’s like a hum.

Yeah… I guess if you want.

Karamatsu doesn’t even waste time with the notepad. He simply nods, and reaches his arms out.

Ichimatsu feels a little embarrassed as he leans forward into the hug. Not really because he doesn’t like hugging Karamatsu ― although he doesn’t let himself do it often, he does enjoy being close to his brother. It just feels awkward trying to comfort one of his older brothers, having one of them seeking that kind of thing from him, of all people. Usually it’s either him running to his older brothers for comfort when he lets himself be that vulnerable, or him comforting one of his younger brothers. (Jyushimatsu and Totty aren’t usually shy about that kind of thing.)

It’s heaven for Karamatsu, though. He presses himself readily into the embrace, nuzzling his face against Ichimatsu’s shoulder. He’s careful to ensure he avoids making any contact with his ears, and everything still hurts…

But. It feels nice to be cuddled up with his little brother, having Ichimatsu hold him as close as he can without hurting him. Even though Ichimatsu is a bit clumsy with this, it makes Karamatsu feel more secure. That part doesn’t matter so much as it matters that Ichimatsu is willing to do this.

He’s sitting up now, with Ichimatsu’s arms around his shoulders and his own around Ichimatsu’s waist. He’s got his chin propped up on Ichimatsu’s shoulder, feeling weak and exhausted and wishing he could just fall asleep right here.

Another thing is that being so close, he can hear Ichimatsu slightly better since Ichimatsu’s speaking so near his ear. “Is, uh… is this okay?” Still a little muffled, but he doesn’t have to scream his voice raw for Karamatsu to hear.

Karamatsu nods, tightening his arms just a bit. “It’s good.” He can barely hear himself, of course, though he knows he’s making the right sounds and words thanks to how it feels in his throat and lips. “I like this.”

What Ichimatsu offers next is a low chuckle, only signified by an exhale of breath hitting his neck. “Yeah, I kinda like it too. Just… let me know when you want me to stop.”

“Never,” Karamatsu mumbles, nestling into Ichimatsu’s shoulder. It earns him another laugh, and despite feeling so horrible, he manages to smile in reply.

After staying this way for a minute, he feels Ichimatsu shift a hand around to rub his back. He almost starts crying again. “I gotcha,” Ichimatsu says softly. “You’ll be feeling better soon, I bet. Once you choke down the Calonal and Choro puts those ear drops in. Then you can sleep.”

“Mhm. Will you stay on the couch with me for a little bit?”

“Uh. Well. Maybe… maybe for a little bit, yeah. It’s hard to fit two of us here, though… if you really wanna stay like this for a while, after you take your medicine, I can unroll the futon and we can move there.”

“Huh… that sounds like a nice idea.”

“Yeah, right? Just, uh… try to rest for now. I won’t let go till you tell me to.”

“Mmh… okay…”

When Choromatsu slips back into the room carrying everything, he finds them in this position; with Ichimatsu almost cradling his older brother, rubbing his back, and Karamatsu half drifted off, still clearly in pain but less anxious than he was before.

He silently sets everything down, then gives both of them a careful hug and a small laugh. “Ah, don’t tell me, Kara… you want me to set up the futon so you two can cuddle after medicine?”

“… Please?”

Well, there’s no denying that tone. As Choromatsu untangles both of them long enough to get the Calonal down Karamatsu’s throat and put the drops in his ears, he’s mentally crossing his fingers that this means his big brother will feel a lot better come tomorrow.

After all, without Karamatsu’s usual brand of shenanigans, it’s far too quiet in the house.

BnHA Chapter 287: Family Reunion

Previously on BnHA: The Tomura For One VS Deku And Pals clusterfuck reached new levels of clustfuckery as AFO possessed Tomura’s body and stabbed Kacchan and Endeavor. Shouto was all “good thing I leveled up offscreen so as to be able to fly around whilst carrying 400lbs worth of people”, and did just that and it was like, damn, son. Today on BnHA: AFO is all “well if it isn’t Tomura’s grandmother who I murdered that one time”, and Deku is all “?”, and AFO is all “fucking vestiges, man, wild”, and Deku is all “??”, and AFO is all “ANYWAYS GETTIM TOMURA”, and OFA is all “NOT SO FAST”, and Deku is all “???”, and really, same. AFO then goes off on some wild tangent about how Deku is unworthy because he couldn’t protect everyone and needed help from OFA and got mad about his friends being stabbed, which is such a cold take it gave me hypothermia, but it ends up not mattering since Deku and Tomura both wake up seconds later with OFA still in the possession of its rightful owner, HOW ABOUT THAT. The chapter ends with the LoV approaching on Gigantomachia’s back with Dabi practically salivating at the mouth, and Toga trying to reignite an old fandom blood feud. Toga why would you do this to me. Toga.

How I feel about this character

Just love for her! She is adorable, strong, fierce, absolutely amazing! Ada and Polly are the best developed female character on the show. Mainly, because Tommy can’t fuck them, so they can’t be reduced to his love interest, which is such a good thing, because I love strong women. Makes me weak in my knees.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Freddie Thorne, Ben Younger, Jessie Eden, because Ada is bi, she just gives off that vibe, u know.

Somehow I prefer to read stuff with a female reader for her, more than a male reader for her. Because it’s either Freddie x Ada for me or Ada x female reader.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Lizzie, Polly, Ada and Linda are an amazing combination! She and Tommy have an interesting dynamic as well! I would have loved to see more John and Ada interactions, because they have not such a big age gap inbetween, so I think they are close. Especially after Ada got her child and John got married with Esme. Oh, Ada and Esme would have sooo much fun together. Esme would be like the sister Ada never had.

My unpopular opinion about this character

I think her character changed a lot between season 1 and 2, because of Freddie’s death and also after she joined the business again. Sometimes when I make memes or the alignment charts, I have two icons for her, one from first season and one from third season, because I think she is one of the characters who changed the most through the series. First season Ada would do a lot of things different and more naive than third season Ada. Mainly, because she still believed in communism in season 1 and she somehow lost her faith after losing Freddie. Which is super understandable tho.

She acutally becomes wiser with age... unlike her brothers, who just do the same shit over and over again.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I wished Ben hadn’t died, because they kill her lovers even fast than Tommys. WTF, right?

On the other hand I wished Ada talked some sense into Jessie, to NOT SLEEP WITH TOMMY THE WHORE SHELBY! Because Ada knows her brother very well and I think she genuinely liked Jessie, or she liked her enough to save her from the pain of being Tommy’s toy or pleasure doll.

And I’m still bitter about the way they killed of Freddie... but more about that later...

How I feel about this character

Relationship status: It’s complicated!

Yes, well, I ramble about Tommy’s shit a lot. I know! He is still an intersting character and it’s so tempting to think about his actions in certain situations, but if I would meet him as a person- I would hate him from the bottom of my heart! <3

He is such an asshole all the time and when I first watched the show, I forgave him a lot he did to his siblings, because I was caught up with his good looks and the presentation of him being the good guy who does bad things to survive. But I spend some time to think about his actions and I noticed, he is an awful human being... to Polly, to his siblings, to his lover and actually to everyone. He might think he does all those mean things to archive a bigger goal, but he is just a gambling addict who can’t stop taking risks he isn’t even prepared for.

Shitty things Tommy has done over time:

Forcing his brother to marry somebody, John didn’t even know at that time, to end a feud, Tommy had started himself and only when it was in his favour to end it, he used John as pawn, so he could archive his plan. HOW FUCKED UP WAS THAT? Nobody seems to talk about this. It was fucking awful! And the way he did it was horrible to! Tommy said nothing to John until the very last moment, when they were already surrounded by enemies, so John couldn’t said no. It also shows, that Tommy thinks he is above his siblings. Tommy thought John wasn’t capable of chosing a wife for himself, so Tommy did that for him too. Even when John didn’t ask for this at all!

Destroying Ada’s relationship with Freddie and chasing his best friend out of town, just because... TOMMY WAS AGAINGST HIS SISTER HAVING A RELATIONSHIP. and yet he proclaimes to listen to woman and to give them a fair change. Maybe just not for our dear Ada!

Destroying Arthur’s marriage, because he kept dragging Arthur into shit, he wasn’t mentally stable enough for. Putting thoughts of rejecting Linda into Arthur’s head, by talking bad about Linda and making jokes about her any given time.

Sleeping with Lizzie over and over again, even when he knew she loved him and when she tried to get over him by dating someone new, he made the order to burn down the pub of Angel, humilated his family, and have him killed later.

Sleeping with Jessie, so he could use her

Humiliate Polly, when she was at her lowest, after Rueben had left her

Drag Michael into the illegal business after Polly begged him not to

Dragging Finn into all this shit after John died, because John wasn’t avaiable anymore

Calling Grace a whore, when they first met

I have a lot... where should I start?

I get so annoyed, when I see Tommy shown as a twink, because the actor is just 1,70m... which is not small to me. I know a lot of men around that height and I think they are average and not small. Also a lot of men feel bad for not being tall enough, because everywhere in our society it’s normal to have a tall man and a small woman. And the way tall man or small man are sexualized in this alpha/omega thing or in a top/bottom dynamic is so... meh. It’s really uncomfortable to see how people try to push the patriarchal man-woman dynamic into same-sex relationships.

Tommy is a class traitor and a horrible husband.

Man, I could rant for hours, but I stop right here. Just remember, please don’t feel attacked, I don’t mean to attack you. Even if you write or draw... whatever with Tommy, I would never say something bad about this. Enjoy creating Tommy content, I will love to ignore it!

I was so disappointed when they killed Freddie, because those two could have had an interesting and compelling relationship. Freddie could have been a great frenemie. I put this here and on on Ada, because their marriage wouldn’t changed the plot as much as Freddies and Tommys friendship. Tommy would have been a way better person, if Freddie was around.

John Shelby

How I feel about this character

MY HUSBAND! I love him and he has never done anything wrong in his life.

Nah, John has many faults, but I still adore him as a character, because his faults are actually making the plot more interesting. I also read, that he and Tommy fight a lot, because John is more moral and has way more integrity than his older brother. It was just hinted in the show, but I love this side fact and I will base my whole characterisation this.

I love to write, draw and read stuff with him. He is my favorite character from Peaky blinders and my love will never die, even though he did.

Funny tho, when I first watched PB, I adored Tommy and was annoyed by John, but as I rewatched it I changed my mind about those two.

He had so much potential and I would spend all my money, which is not much, but the devotions counts, to see a spin-off with just John and his army of children.

And also Tommy chose him to be the legal bookie over the others, so John must do a good job there. He just never got a degree or something similar like Michael. Which is also a reason, why John seems to be bitter about Michael joining the business. Michael was put in a higher position than he did.

A fan mistakens them for the other twin but they still respond to the other name because they don’t feel like there’s a need to correct them since they’re mostly known by Mike and Ike anyways. When the fan posts it on instagram and tags the twin they thought it was the twin that was tagged would comment “wrong twin but nice pic you two”

Happens wayyyyy too many times. Their fans are officially scared to approach one of the two in public alone without their differentiating indicators on which is which

And yes it is widely known that they argue a lot when it comes to writing songs

Wow, I knew I wasn't good at writing pithy but evocative opening sentences but it's kind of a let-down to see it proven, lol. Out of 20 I'd rate 8 as decent to good. I don't see any strong patterns, although they do tend to be fairly short, and I open with dialogue less than I'd have guessed. Of these, my favourite is probably #17 since it plants a hook pretty well and it's one of the few that came to me easily.

Why the Persona 3 FES vs Portable Debate Makes Me Want to Fly Into the Sun Pt. 3

Part 3 of this lovely emotional rant is here, for anyone who wants to spend their time reading these. With the last two posts, I have mostly tried to be informative or just complain a bit about why this debate makes me want to fly into the sun, but for this post it’s going to go a little different. Perhaps a bit more subjective than the others.

In this post, I’m going to go over everyone's favorite clusterfuck...a definitive version of Persona 3.

Now, as we established in the previous post, we know that the argument of FES vs Portable is essentially pointless because everyone’s opinion on either game is subjective. However, I have neglected to bring up this topic that puts a huge ass nail into this dusty old coffin: the fact that there is objectively no definitive version of Persona 3.

Everyone can argue all day and night about which version of P3 is better, but no one can deny that either version are “definitive.” By definitive, I mean that the game has the most content that is offered, like Persona 4 Golden or Persona 5 Royal. The reason none of the P3 games are definitive is because base P3 lacks stuff from FES and Portable, FES lacks stuff fro Portable, and Portable lacks things from FES. It’s a gamble of whether you want to experience cutscenes, an overworld, and The Answer, or a whole new route with the FeMC and the brand new option of dating male party members and saving...you know who.

One might be able to say FES is definitive because it has The Answer, which I believe is considered canon according to the Arena games. Another could say Portable is the definitive version because it came out after FES, added the FeMC (who is technically canon as per the second Persona Q game), and removes The Answer (which a lot of people said The Answer messed with the core theme of P3). However, the definition of definitive in this case, and with all of the other games, is that the game offers the most content. Arguably, FES and Portable provide the same amount of content, just in different ways. This is why this whole conversation of which one is better, or which to play first, spawned in the first place.

The reason I am bringing this up in this post, about why this whole discussion physically pains me, is because having a real, definitive version of the game could finally put this discussion to rest. At least, it somewhat would. People would probably still argue that FES is the best for some reason.

Now, the argument becomes...well, what does a definitive version of Persona 3 look like?

I have seen quite a bit about this topic, and people seem to really miss some common sense points. For example, they get caught up in whether it would be considered a remake or a remaster. I know some use those terms interchangeably, but the “official” definition for each is that a remake is a game that is made from scratch, while a remaster is made by updating the existing assets and engine. For example, the upcoming Nocturne HD release is a remaster. Personally I find it difficult to neatly fit the typical persona definitive editions, like Golden and Royal, into either of these categories. It may just be me not fully grasping the differences between the two, but I believe they would fit into more of the “remaster” category. It is true that there are new assets and content being added to the game, but it’s so minor that I’m not sure it could be considered a remake. On the other hand, because new content is added it couldn’t just be defined as a remaster because typically the effects and such aren’t even changed that much. It’s just gameplay and story content that is tweaked.

When people get so caught up in what it would be considered, logic seems to...go out the window? For example, in a debate between a P3 remaster or remake, a person made a comment that if a remake was to happen then people would demand that all of the social links be available to anyone. Now, that just isn’t possible for a variety of reasons. There’s no way we could ever mix and match social links to get a preferred grouping. Another issue with this is that if just a remaster was made, then one of the two games would be left out.

This is why I don’t really think about whether a definitive edition is a remaster or remake, because using such strict labels make it harder to judge what could, or should, be in one. This is why I’m just referring to this process as making a definitive edition. That being said, I would consider a definitive P3 game to be more of a remake (not that it really matters) because my ideas would essentially combine FES and Portable, in a way?

So here we go, into my idea of what a definitive version of Persona 3 would look like. (Warning: This will contain spoilers for all of the P3 story and *gasp* may be a bit biased toward Portable because I like it more)

1. Presentation

In simple terms, I would want the game to essentially be Portable...but with updated graphics, cutscenes from FES, and an overworld. It’s easier to use Portable as a base because it’s already closer to the format of P4 and P5, so then adding in the good parts of FES with the cutscenes and overworld are par for the course. As far as graphics go, I would like the models and environment to look more like P3D (aka whatever engine they used for Persona 5?) because damn did the characters get a glow up.

2. Gameplay

Along with the format of Portable, I would also want the gameplay of Portable to be in this definitive version. That means no jealousy system, no fatigue until after you leave tartarus, the vision quest, and the other changes I mentioned in the first post. Sorry FES fans, but yes...I would still want the option of controllable party members. However, a new change that should be added is backup members earning exp. I don’t think baton passes or anything should be added, we don’t want a clone of P5, and the combo attacks in P3P kind of fill this role anyway. The idea of having social links give certain perks with ranks, like how confidants work in P5, is interesting but I don’t think it would be necessary. I would also say that the soundtrack should be exclusive for each side, like how it is in Portable, and that there should be an option to choose which skills are inherited.

3. Social Links

The stance I would take with social links would essentially be how Portable did it, but with a slight tweak. No matter how much it would be cool to date Rio or Saori as the Male MC, or vice versa with Kaz or Keisuke and FeMC, I don’t think any mixing of the two sides would really be feasible. However, I would love to see cameos of those characters in the opposing routes. For example, you see Yuko and Kaz in the female route, but in the male route you could see Saori and Rio at school. That being said, and this is probably one of the biggest issues, I would want the male protag to be able to have social links with the entire party, men included. This brings up the issue of what social links you would cut out because you can’t have two social links be the exact same arcana. Unless they want to add more arcanas to the game, which would probably not go over well either, the best option is probably to prioritize the male party members and then have who would usually be in their place just show up sometimes. For example, Kenji would show up in the social link with Junpei instead of the magician social link just being about one or the other.

I know this seems weird, but it does kind of avoid shafting one or the other. If it was too hard to fit the two together (such as Chihiro and Ken both being Justice), perhaps a few more school scenes could be added where the MC interacts with the school friends that are not seen as much (Kenji, Chihiro, etc.) However, and this might piss off 1% of people but whatever, but the moon arcana with Nozomi (Gourmet king dude) could just be completely taken over by Shinji. Nozomi is a meme, but he is not needed in any way. Also, I would prioritize Yuko in the male route over Koromaru since, although he is a very good boy, he is still a dog. Also, please get rid of the option that you’re forced to romance every girl in the male route, and personally I would say keep in the fact that you cannot date Junpei. In a headcanon sort of way, I totally dig the idea of the MC being able to help Junpei through his rough time after Chidori dies (if she dies?) and feelings grow from there, but from a story perspective I think it’s integral to his character that he friendzones the player if they try.

So TLDR; who the social link is about would mainly stay true to the original route (male route with Kaz, etc. and female route with Rio, etc.), however in the male route the party members would take priority (so Akihiko would take the star arcana place and Mamoru (track guy) would just be featured in the link sometimes), and in both routes Shinji would take Nozomi’s place as the moon. Important note that besides including the other character, the main substance of the social link shouldn’t be changed; aka they should not change the format of the social links to operate more like P5 social links where the MC is just solving all of their problems.

(Sidenote: This is imply my idea on how to include party members into the social links for the male route, however if they just decided to keep the social links the exact same as Portable with no male party member social links with the male route then I’d be fine with that too. It wouldn’t really take away from the game as a whole for me, personally.)

4. Romance Options

Riding off of the social link talk...and I know this is like the least likely option of happening, but please make some gay options Atlus? If we can romance every single girl in the male route, why not just add the romance option for the men too? Yes yes there’s the whole argument about the issue of “making everyone bi” (thanks for erasing sexuality that care more about connections rather than gender?), but I say look no further than how Dragon Age 2 did it. Every romanceable option in that game can be romanced be either the male or female main character (barring a DLC character who is only romanceable by females), and it works just fine. Turns out, no one really gives a shit if it’s “realistic” enough (aka only having one or no bi/gay people apparently?) because it’s a video game and people want to romance whoever they want...because it’s a video game. Even if you really, really don’t like this approach there is also the option of going the Dragon Age Inquisition route, where characters are able to be romanced by certain genders and not by others (race also plays a role in this in the game, since there are elves and other fantasy races and such, but this is not applicable to Persona obviously). This is simply a hypothetical example, but how this would work is that like Fuuka can only be romanced by the Male MC, Akihiko and Yukari could be romanced by either MC, and Mitsuru could only be romanced by the FeMC. Obviously social links specific to a run would be a romanceable option to the MC in their route (as in Yuko would only be romanceable by Male MC because she’s only in her run, and social links like Saori could be a romance for FeMC because she’s specific to her route). I have a gut feeling this would cause an even bigger uproar with the fandom, so having any romance option (barring route specific social links for the route they’re not in) be available for either male or female MC is the best option in my opinion.

Take out Ken’s romance option altogether though. I know some of the language is different, so it doesn’t say you “spend a long night together” or whatever, but that doesn’t really make it any better. I do think it’s fine if Ken has a crush on the MC, and maybe has a whole Kenji thing of thinking they are together cause he’s 10 and kids can be like that, but the MC wouldn’t actually act on this and the player could be given the choice to actively dissuade Ken. The only good thing that came out of Ken’s romance option was the fact that him and Akihiko can argue in Tartarus if you romance them both, and I don’t want to lose that hilarious dialogue.

5. Tartarus

Tartarus...uh...to be honest I’m not really sure what to do with this beast. It’s boring and tedious in the first place, probably by design for symbolism in the game, but I’m not sure how to make it interesting without copying the dungeon/palace format. Perhaps the blocks could be restructured to act more like a big puzzle that needs to be solved, like certain sections of palaces in P5, but also have bosses and shadows thrown in. For example, perhaps one block could be more reminiscent of hide-and-seek stealth tactics while another is formatted like a series of arena-esque gladiator fights. Also probably lower the number of floors you need to climb? It gets a bit ridiculous when you realize there are 264 floors of Tartarus and 99% of them are the same but just with more funky music and slightly different decorations. This job is suited for someone with actual video game making experience though, and not me.

6. Awakenings and Pacing

Let’s talk about some quick fixes to awakenings and pacing of the game. Now, since this is a definitive version and not a true remake, I wouldn’t want them to rewrite the entire story or something. Most of the party member’s original awakenings happen off screen, which can be kind of lackluster. The MC’s and Fuuka’s are the only two we really see, and those moments were really cool in my opinion. Obviously we wouldn’t see Mitsuru’s, Akihiko’s, or Shinji’s original awakenings, but that is fine. Yukari and Junpei also fall into this boat because Yukari awakens before the MC gets to the dorm, and it would be hard to show Junpei’s awakening while also having his whole “reveal” moment when he comes to the dorm to live there. I don’t know if it’s ever mentioned when Ken awakens to his persona, but making a scene to show both his and Koromaru’s would be helpful instead of just saying Ken has the potential and he’s joining, and hearing about Koromaru awakening but not actually seeing it. As for the pacing, I’m mainly talking about the summer time where you can’t hang out with a good number of social links. I would just change this so that you can hang out with school social links during this time more readily, like if they’re just hanging out somewhere in town if they’re not at school. Like I said, this isn’t a remake (and I’m not a video game designer) so I didn’t want to get into how to fix the overall pacing of the story, which can be pretty slow until October or so. My one suggestion is maybe adding in a few extra scenes with Strega before October so it’s not like we run into them a couple times and suddenly they’re a major villain.

7. Shinjiro

(Spoilers for after October) I know certain people will definitely not like this point, but I think the option to save Shinji should remain in the game (and Chidori too). I’ll go into this in another post, but my main reason for keeping this in is because some people really do like this option, so it would be kind of unfair just to get rid of it because other people don’t like it. However, I would suggest a change to his social link so that there is the option to save him or not while also being able to complete the social link. Perhaps after rank 10 would be when you could give him the pocket watch, so that people could get the rank 10 and not be forced to save him. 

8. Extra Content

(Spoilers for the ending of Persona 3 and The Answer) Each definitive version has extra content in the “third semester” (because Persona 4 and 5 both essentially end after December), but in Persona 3 the natural game ends in January. I am not sure if they would try to add another whole months or so on, but because The Answer already exists, but I assume they wouldn’t add extra content in February or something for the MC. For The Answer, I would keep this in the game as sort of the “extra content” but add a FeMC version of this. Obviously it would be largely the same, except with the FeMC and perhaps the male party members could get more of a focus since the female party members get a larger focus in the male route (ie. Yukari breaking down with the keys. Maybe Junpei or Akihiko could take on this role as the people who don’t want to let go). Also, as a possible new addition to The Answer, Shinji could be a part of it if he is saved during the main game. In the NG+ run of Portable FeMC route, if you romance Shinji he comes to the rooftop for that final scene, so in a way it could be possible for him to recover by the time The Answer happens in March.

Now, if Atlus decided to add a more typical “extra content” thing, I hope they wouldn’t try to cram The Answer in on top of that unless they were able to do it cohesively. It might be a lot to have the whole ending of the game in January, come up with a reason to have extra content in February (presumably with the MC still alive, but also combat would need to be a part so then the issue arises of Tartarus coming back or something?), and then have the answer take place right after near the end of March.

Well that’s the end of that I think. This will also be the last post in this little “series” because I pretty much went over everything about this debate that makes me want to fly into the sun. I know the things I talked about in these posts will probably never stop, but I really hope that if a definitive version comes out at least the discussion will change to saying what is good or bad about each game rather than FES supremacy or whatever. That being said, above all I really hope this debate doesn’t discourage new fans from Persona 3 or the series in general, because that would probably be the worst outcome from all of this. It’s a great game, and it’s a shame that the game itself is kind of held back by being split into two (I’m not counting base Persona 3) different forms.

Save All The Fic!

My primary fandom has undergone a lot of changes over the last few years and there is nothing that I mourn more than deleted fic.

A few years ago, I started downloading and archiving a good chunk of the fic that I read so that I could preserve it. I’m up to over 8.5k of fic (which I honestly don’t know whether to be impressed or highly disturbed with myself).  Here's some tricks that I've discovered.

Download Calibre. It's a fanfolk's favorite application for organizing and collecting digital works. Here's how my library looks:

Calibre makes organization such a breeze. You can create virtual libraries, so each of your fandoms are separate, which makes searching easier. I've downloaded all of my purchased books from Amazon into Calibre, for example, using a plugin that inserts my DRM into the ebook and therefore makes them portable, and have a separate library for them. Mobi, Amazon, Epub, PDF, HTML are all supported.

There are a few plug-ins for calibre that makes a fanfolk's life a dream. The absolute-must-have is Fanficfare. FanFicFare is a tool for downloading fanfiction and original stories from various supported sites into ebook form (epub, mobi, html, txt). Supported sites include Archive Of Our Own and Fanfiction.net, as well as hundreds of other fandom specific fic sites (mugglenet and scarves&coffee for example). Unfortunately, Tumblr, WattPad, deviantART, and Livejournal are NOT supported. FanFicFare also does not support or create PDF. Fanficfare is extremely easy to use. Simply search for the plugin, download and activate, and follow the directions to configure the default file to convert, save usernames and passwords (helpful for sites which have age restrictions), and click on buttons to tell the program the format to download and how to manage covers and metadata. You can then download stories individually or as an anthology (I have not figured out how to separate an anthology once downloaded, and I decided a few months ago that I much prefer the "series" way of organizing that AO3 uses rather than combining them all). WIPs can be updated and new chapters added with just a simple click. 

The second plugin that I use frequently is Generate Cover which allows me to insert any fanart as the cover for epubs/mobi. For PDFs, the cover is there in calibre but not attached to the file. 

I used to use Epub Merge/Epub Split to join separate chapters downloaded from LJ as epubs, but since I've changed my methods, I don't use it as much. Still, it’s easy to use. 

Of course, Archive Of Our Own has its own download option which makes it one of the easiest sites to preserve stories for personal reading. Simply click on the download button and choose between epub, mobi and PDF formats. I don't actually like the default format look and from what I can see, the metadata (besides name and author) is not preserved on download, so I download epubs using Fanficfare. YMMV.

Downloading ebooks from AO3 or using Fanficfare will probably save 80-90% fic, but you'll probably run into fic on unsupported sites, particularly from livejournal or tumblr. Here's some of my techniques for getting those fic.

My current method is to use Safari as my browser and use "Reader View." I then print to save as a PDF. If there are multiple parts, I then use Preview on my Mac to combine all of the parts into one pdf.

Option 2 uses two chrome extensions: Boom! which removes extra forms - including comments, headers or random graphics, leaving just the text. I then use EasyReader to format it, and then save it as a PDF. I had problems with the italics and bold getting removed from the PDF and couldn't fix it, so I've switched to the Safari method above.

Other methods that may or may not work for you.

Instapaper is a simple tool for grabbing pages of the internet and saving them to an account for online reading. It also allows for downloading multiple pages as one epub. Unfortunately, it can have problems handling LJ and tumblr themes, leading to wonky borders. It's biggest limitation is that you can't rearrange your links, and so therefore must save and move each chapter in order - which can be frustrating for a long story. I'm having an easier time of downloading as a PDF as above and merging.

iReader. Another chrome extension to enhance the readability. When you print it, it added on a footer with the URL and title.  Unfortunately, for me, it has a tendency to split sentences across pages and therefore renders them unreadable, but I know several people who use this plug-in who don't have that issue.

JustRead. Chrome extension. Removes styling, comments and ads. Also adds a date and an author field (which can be helpful when downloading fic from a community). Unfortunately, it also tends to be the buggiest and the most unpredictable in its output.

dotEPUB. Converts any webpage into an epub or mobi format with just a click of the plugin. It's clean and functional, although it tends not to be pretty and the website adds a standard (ugly) cover to every ebook (I hear you can change this; I haven’t figured out how). For multichapter fic, it has to be used with a plug-in like EPubMerge.

I forgot about FicSave.xyz, which is a website where you can enter in the URL and it converts it to ePUB or Text, which I've used several times, but I overall like FanFicFare plugin better. It is slow and tedious with multiple chapters and tends to stall out, but it can be used with livejournal. I've had much less success with tumblr.

Squee!book still works? Most of the time it stalls out for me, but if you can get it to work, it’ll combine multiple pages into one story and you can add cover art. It was designed specifically to work on LJ, so there’s a plus. 

Other tips:

The only method that I've found that works for comment fic (such as kink memes) is the Boom! extension to remove all of the surrounding styling and just a lot of coping/pasting. It's so tedious though.

I love working with epub because of how easy it is to add cover art and how easily it converts to other formats. PDF has a lovely end product in terms of standard readability but is a beast to convert to epub or mobi and it creates a larger file than the epub.

Jenny talks in a way really similar to Musimon (and therefore also sounds like Astora when he’s streaming), just with more English thrown in because she’s British. I’d like to think that she tuned in to some of Astora’s streams and thought that saying stuff like “noreru” and “playlist” a ton sounded cool and Hip With the Kids so she started doing it so that she’d seem cool. that’s the kind of parent that Jenny seems like, the kind that tries super hard to be really cool and relatable.

i won’t pretend to know a single thing about the customs of referring to your parents in Japan & therefore I don’t have the capacity to speculate on it much, but I do wonder why Astora calls her Jenny instead of okaasan or something.

on one hand it seems like Astora should also be considering his obligations as an App Driver here, but at the same time I’m kinda glad he’s not cause that would just add to his stack of problems

no one likes being told they have to pick between two loved ones, even when it’s only a hypothetical... so it must be really rough on Astora to be forced to choose between his father and Musimon in a dream that seems real. not to mention the fact that they also both represent Astora’s two potential career paths.

...so, to choose both of them takes a lot of guts. Astora’s decided to do something completely unheard of, and combine running the school with being an apptuber. realizing two different dreams that are so different will be difficult, but ultimately Astora will be able to forge his own path.

except the only mettle that Dreammon tested was Astora’s. the only thing that Musimon did was yell at him to try and wake him up.

Entermon’s Portée Melos is definitely my favorite Ultimate-grade attack because of the whole “are you feeling hyped?!” thing. it’s hilarious.

The first character you loved: 

FE: Frederick. I feel like he was probably the first indicator of my current type, and he’s the first FE character I ever S ranked. He’s still pretty special. Love that Freddy Bear.

LC: Gebura. Geburaaaa. The first time I saw her I knew she was exactly the kind of character I’d like, and I think literally everyone else knew I’d like her too.

The character that you immediately knew you would self ship with: 

FE: Okay, hear me out on this because it was kind of a roller coaster: Catherine. I had already heard whisperings that she was a Camus archetype before release, and then I saw the design and was like whoa strong lady. There were a couple of months of denial after for a number of reasons, but of course, I eventually came around. I knew I couldn’t stay away. Also, Xander for a more straightforward example, as I knew I’d like him and he was my first Fates f/o.

LC: Likewise, Gebura. She really just screams my type, doesn’t she? I didn’t want to admit it, but I knew from the start this would happen.

The character that you never expected to self ship with: 

FE: Honestly, Shamir. I really didn’t have any interest in her at first, but spending some more time with her made me like her, and that combined with the teasing from a certain someone pushed me over into f/oing her.

LC: Binah. Oh god, Binah. I didn’t even think I’d like her, let alone that I’d be marrying her. But now I’m so attached.

The F/O that you want to fight for one reason or another: 

FE: Catherine, but in like a training way! Or a friendly competition way. Either or.

LC: I don’t really want to fight either of them, but of the two, Binah. Not that I’d win, of course. She’s an arbiter, after all.

The F/O that you relate to the most: 

FE: This may be surprising because I haven’t talked about him in a while but, Xander. The shyness, the general struggle to express affection, the tendency to be too loyal to people who don’t deserve it, all of them hit too close to home.

LC: Probably Gebura? I think we have the most in common, even though we’re opposites in many ways.

Three characters from the fandom, F/O or not, that you just want to give some appreciation to:

FE: First is Hrid, who really gets a lot of hostility despite not really doing anything wrong. Like what’s the problem? And I know he doesn’t get that many chances for development in canon, but he is a good character and a good brother. Second is Catherine, who is a really good character who just kind of gets outweighed by her relationships with other people in the fandom. Come on, look at that Lysithea support and tell me she isn’t wonderful. And lastly, Isadora, who isn’t an f/o (yet?) but is an amazing knight lady who deserves the world.

LC: I guess I have to gush about my girls first. First Gebura, who is inexplicably portrayed as much angrier and more hostile than she really is in fandom. Really, she is strong and brave and a hero to many, and possibly the most reasonable person in the company. Next, Binah, whose ominous demeanor gets memed on a lot, but I don’t feel like she gets the appreciation she deserves. She has a lot going on and is genuinely interesting. Lastly, the not-f/o, everyone should appreciate Malkuth. I know I joke about her air-headedness and some of the odd things she says a lot, but she just wants to help.

Names? If you were to choose another name for your oc, what do you think it would be? Did you choose their name for how it sounds or for its meaning?

Tbh it was a toss-up for a long time between Mallory, Felix and Everaud, and eventually the first two won. I chose it for how it sounded, but as it turned out the meanings of his first two names juxtapose pretty well together (first name Mallory - ‘unlucky’, second name Felix - ‘lucky’). His surname, Valkner, I also picked for the sound - the meaning of ‘warrior’ doesn’t really pertain to him lmao

He hasn’t gone by his legit first name of Mallory since he was about 12, and has used Felix almost exclusively since then. he fuckin hates it. most of the time.

Can your oc play any instruments? Have they ever wanted to learn how to play any? Why?

No, he grew up without much money and instruments would have been a luxury. He’s vaguely considered it as an adult, but is pretty certain he’d be useless so hasn’t bothered trying.

How does your oc fare in the dark? Are they scared? Do they trip over things really easily or navigate like they have night vision? (Or do they have night vision?)

He doesn’t like the dark much, but he’s not scared. He’s just got bad eyesight.

How well would your oc fare as a teacher? What subject would they be best at teaching? What about the worst?

tbh he’d probably be pretty good as a teacher to a group of like...primary school kids, maybe from 5-11 in age. He’s quiet-voiced, fairly mild-mannered, and has a strong sense of fairness and justice - the problem would arise when it came to older pupils, teens and up, trying to get the upperhand, bc he’s not authoritative in the slightest and would probably cave. Give him a room of toddlers tho that he’s only responsible for in short bursts and he’d cope pretty well. Either history or english lit would be his forte; sports would be worst. the boy can’t run.

What was your oc’s relationship with their parents like? If they didn’t have any parents/didn’t know them, who in their life was the closest to a parent to them?

It’s...good? I guess?? It’s complicated. his parents love their kids dearly and Felix didn’t go wanting for affection, but if anything it went too far the other way. He was absolutely smothered as a kid - after several near-death experiences with childhood illnesses (bacterial meningitis, which developed into encephalitis, then sepsis in his leg), his mother wrapped him up in cotton wool and never really let go. He couldn’t leave the house alone, he couldn’t go outside on cold days, he couldn’t move at anything faster than a walk - after being in and out of hospitals from 5-years-old to 8, and then being kept on a shelf from then, it really had an impact on how he learnt to interact with other kids his age. It’s also given him an unstable footing in life itself - he’s never quite certain if he’s going to lose everything at the drop of a hat, because that’s how they used to act around him. Now, with the distance of adulthood, he loves them and appreciates that they were trying their best, but he can’t help but resent them a little if he really thinks about it. He gets around this by not thinking about it.

Does your oc have any allergies, intolerances, or other sensitivities? How dangerous is it? Does this affect their daily life in any way?

he’s got an allergy to letting himself be happy it’s very serious

Does your oc prefer being in a crowd or being completely alone? How many people can be around them before they get uncomfortable?

Generally he’s more content alone - conversation doesn’t come naturally to him, particularly if it’s a crowd of strangers, and he’s more content in his own company. If he does find himself in a crowd, he will take himself to the edge of the room and people-watch rather than mingle.

How open is your oc to trying new things? Are they the adventurous sort, or would they rather stay in their comfort zone? Why?

He needs to be talked into things, otherwise he’d never try anything - he knows his comfort zones and he’s very comfortable in them, and is not inclined to venture outside. If he’s nudged into doing something, he may end up finding that he enjoys it - doesn’t necessarily mean he’d do it again under his own steam, but he doesn’t always regret the experience.

Does your oc have any best friends? Who was/is their closest friend? What about their worst enemy?

Pathetically enough, he doesn’t, really. Sylvia was his best, and to be honest his only friend, and when she left his social life left with her. He loves her still, but he loves her platonically (even if he hasn’t realised that yet) and that wasn’t enough for her, understandably. Outside of her, there’s not really anyone else.

No enemies. He’s not important enough to have enemies.

How dangerous is your oc? Are they completely innocent, or someone to be feared? Do others know?

tbh Felix’s level of danger is about the same as a puppy with a knife in its mouth. like yeah it might get you by accident but its way more likely to hurt itself and its not really done anything to deserve that so really its more important to get the knife away from it for its own benefit than yours

What is your oc’s vision like? Do they require glasses, are they completely blind, or do they have 20/20 vision? Does this have an effect on their life?

He wears glasses for pretty much everything - he’s not blind without them, but his vision’s bad enough that he wouldn’t be able to cope for the whole day if he left them at home.

If your oc were to be arrested for something, what would it be for? For being too kind, for a legitimate crime?

Probably for getting mixed up in something he didn’t mean to get involved in - Felix is the sort of person to say ‘yes’ to one request because he felt pressured and then find himself 20 ‘yes’s down the line embezzling money from the government for the Serbian mafia with no idea how he got there. He’s quite easy to manipulate - a person who knows how to press his buttons can generally work the answer they want out of him. 

How quiet or loud is your oc? Are they easily capable of sneaking around without being heard, or do they feel it’s impossible to stop talking?

He’s pretty quiet - tries not to draw attention to himself if he can avoid it, and he doesn’t really speak unless he’s spoken to.

How stylistically fancy is your oc? Or would they rather go for comfort and plainness instead?

His primary concern is durability and price - he needs something that will either last for as long as possible so he doesn’t have to replace it any time soon, or something that is cheap enough that it doesn’t matter if it wears out, and ergo, Primark. He oftens window-shops for nice-fitting, fancy clothing in the London boutiques he passes on the way to work, but has never bought anything like that in his life and can’t bring himself to even consider it.

What’s your oc’s preferred mode of transportation? Walking, vehicle, (or in a sci-fi/magic setting) teleportation?

His preferred mode of transport is a car, but his isn’t always working properly so when he has to, he takes a bus - he doesn’t like walking if he can avoid it, partially because it wears him out and partially because he’s kind of physically lazy.

Is your oc always late, always early, or always right on time? Is there any reason for this?

He’s always early, because he leaves early, because he’s already envisioned about 20 different disasters that could make him late on the way and he’s trying to circumvent all of them.

How empathetic is your oc? Or are they closer to being a sociopath? Any reason why?

Felix doesn’t really realise that he’s empathetic - he thinks he’s just doing what everyone does, but in fact he will go out of his way to improve a situation for someone if he thinks they’re being hard-done-by for no benefit to himself, even to the extent of bending or breaking rules. It’s partially why he got into the law-scene - he wants to see things bettered for people who need it.

How much does your oc swear? Or do they keep completely clean? Why is this? Is there any situation where they would be the opposite?

Swearing doesn’t come naturally to him - he’s one of those people who will swear only under their breath and still manage to feel guilty about doing it. If he is going to swear out loud, he does it in German and it always comes out clumsily.

How does your oc’s own perception of themselves compare to how other people see them? Is your oc aware that other people see them differently (if it’s different)?

It’s pretty different. In his mind, he’s pretty useless - a bit of a waste-of-space who has coasted through life by pretending to be better than he is, kind of dull, kind of boring, kind of unattractive, altogether too much of Nothing Special for anyone to really be bothered with. Realistically, he comes across as responsible and competent at his job, perhaps a little highly-strung and nervy but nevertheless perfectly capable of managing the responsibilities he has. It’s his own self-doubt that cripples him, for the most part - people see it in him, and perhaps it makes them wonder if there’s a reason for it.

Is your oc a workaholic, or do they find it hard to be busy at all? Do they find it easy to relax, or must they have something to do at all times? Why?

if he’s not working, he’s thinking, and that simply won’t do. Felix’s whole life is work, for the most part - he throws his all into it, and isn’t sure what to do with himself when he’s sitting at home alone in a dead-quiet flat.

How energetic is your oc? Do they have trouble sitting still or do they feel low on juice all the time? Any reason why?

He’s constantly exhausted. It’s because he’s depressed. He hasn’t figured that out yet.

How does your character sleep? Peacefully, fitfully? What position do they sleep in? What is their typical bedding like?

Not very peacefully - Felix is a light sleeper, so although capable of getting to sleep relatively quickly he wakes up in fits and starts throughout the night. He tends to sleep curled on his left side, on bedding that is cheap, serviceable and durable. He can’t afford to buy anything decent. He finds it easier to stay asleep if there’s ambient noise in the room - white noise, the TV, whatever.

Does your oc have dreams or nightmares? What are they like? Is there a recurring one?

He’ll suffer a pretty bad nightmare here and there, generally to do with hospitals or medical procedures, but they aren’t chronic.

How easy to annoy is your oc? Do they have common pet-peeves or are they stoic in response to everything? What is their reaction if the source doesn’t stop?

he’s real easy to annoy lmao. He’s got a list of pet peeves a mile long and he’s very easy to get a rise out of, so people who enjoy getting a reaction (Lyon) find him very entertaining pickings. He keeps telling himself not to get so worked up because it only encourages things, but he can’t help it.

How does your oc view housework? Do they absolutely hate it? Do they enjoy having their surroundings neat and tidy or do they not notice?

He hates doing it, but he really enjoys a clean space afterwards and goes a long way to keep things organised. Disorder stresses him out - he particularly can’t bear people coming into his space and messing it up.

Your oc has to make something for an art exhibition. What would they make? How terrible is it? Would they enjoy making it?

oh christ. the thing is, he’s actually not that bad at art - he’s got a good handle on anatomy and perspective and can reproduce images or photpgraphs fairly well - but he thinks he’s useless and has never shown anyone anything. he’d produce a pretty solid sketch of like a coffee shop at 5pm or something dull like that, apologise profusely for the result, and hate every second of it.

What is your oc’s vocabulary like? Does it match the way they talk? How would you describe their speech?

He speaks pretty well - he’s precise with his words and keeps a quiet, even tone, and his vocab is fairly developed. If there’s a flaw with his speech, it’s that he speaks rather too quickly, because he’s used to being constantly interrupted - it becomes a race to get the sentence finished and his point across, before someone can cut him off.

He has a south German accent, but it’s a little softer for years of living in England - it gets stronger when he goes back home to Munich.

Is your oc more likely to follow instructions exactly, throw them out and figure it out on their own, or make it all up? What are the results like?

He follows instructions to the T, and doesn’t have the impulse to experiment and mess around with them for fear of making a mistake that he’d then have to clean up; that being said, if it becomes a matter of fair treatment, he may be inclined to bend the rules here and there.

Is your oc afraid of touch or do they actively seek it out? Is there a reason for this? What are the exceptions?

lmaoooOOOOO he’s petrified, whilst at the same time desperately craving it. He’s horrendously touch-starved, but his childhood lizard-brain learnt to associate touch with painful medical procedures, so he shies from it by nature.

How is your oc about medical care? Do they avoid any form of healthcare that they can, do they seek it out over every little scrape? Do they treat their injuries/illness all by themselves?

Felix carries an awful lot of medical trauma with him; he’s terrified of medical care, whilst simultaneously being something of a hypochondriac convinced he’s got some sort of Terrible Disease at all times. to be fair, this is because he once had a Terrible Disease, which then led to a second and then a third Terrible Disease before the first could even be treated, so he does have form for it. He also can’t handle blood and has been known to pass out at the sight of it, but would rather do that and recover on the floor than go to hospital.

He will avoid hospitals At All Costs.

How competitive is your oc? Is every little task something that they can win, or are they just in competitions for the fun of it? Is there anyone they’re most competitive with?

He’s sort of competitive accidentally - he doesn’t want to be, but he feels like he needs to be in order to succeed. He is desperate to prove himself, desperate to show his mother than he is more than capable of managing his own life, but he will run himself to exhaustion trying to get there. He’s happiest when he’s left to do his own thing without feeling like he’s competing against others, when he’s content that he’s appreciated by the people around him and is able to take that appreciation at face value, but he hasn’t come to that realisation in himself yet - he just thinks he’s doing it wrong.

How skilled at lying is your oc? How frequently do they lie? For what reason? What situations would be the exception?

lmao he can’t lie to save his life it’s actually kind of sad to watch. he’s a Blusher, for one, so he’s already tripped coming out of the gate, and then he starts falling over his own tongue the second he’s asked a question he can’t give a truthful answer to until it’s painfully obvious to everyone. it’s just sad.

What is your oc’s immune system like? Are they invincible to illness, or are they compromised completely from the slightest of dirt?

His immune system is terrible - a side-effect of his childhood. If there’s an illness going around, he will catch it.

Does your oc do anything “just for the aesthetic”? Or are they completely practical in everything?

Totally practical by habit, but perhaps he’d be happier if he wasn’t. He’s not used to doing things just because he wants to, because he’d enjoy the experience - there has to be a reason for it, else he’s not justified in doing it. Same goes for purchasing things that he wants - if he can’t come up with a good, solid, practical reason to buy himself something, he won’t buy it. ‘Because you want to’ is not reason enough.

If you had to choose a single object to act as a symbol for your oc, what would it be?

One of those candles that re-ignites itself when you blow it out.

If your oc could only eat one thing for the rest of their life (while miraculously not suffering from malnutrition), what would it be?

He’s got a massive sweet tooth and spends a lot of time baking, so probably cake - he’s fond of little gay French patisserie nonsense.

How prepared is your oc? Ready for the worst no matter what, or completely lost in every situation? Would they have a medkit when it was needed? Would they have an umbrella if it rains?

As much as he panics, in a legitimate bad situation he is capable of keeping his head - he runs on adrenaline and suffers the consequences later. He carries a first-aid kit in his car, but has never needed to use it, and yes, he always has an umbrella.

How charitable is your oc? Or are they more stingy with their resources and money?

god. He is stingy, but not out of a miserly nature - he just legitimately does not have much money. He never has, ever since childhood, and that shit is ingrained in him - you watch what you’re spending, because you never know when you’re going to need to make an emergency payment.

If someone was describing your oc to someone who had never met them, what distinguishing features would they mention? How would one identify your oc in a crowd?

Short guy, kind of round-faced, round glasses - kinda looks like he’s lost even when he isn’t. Jumps if you bump into him.

Does your oc have any pleasure that embarrasses them so they keep it secret? Or are they open about all the things they enjoy?

literally everything that he enjoys, he’s embarrassed about. He likes old black-and-white movies and he’s embarrassed about that. He reads shitty romcom fiction and he’s embarrassed about that. He enjoys cooking, he’s embarrassed about that. He actually enjoys sex, believe it or not, and he’s embarrassed about it. Don’t even fuckin get him started on his kinks because he’s embarrassed about them. tbh Felix doesn’t really know how to enjoy himself without guilt or shame, because he always feels like he needs to justify the things he likes and he doesn’t know how to do it. He’s just embarrassed.

What is your oc’s stamina like? Would they be able to run a marathon, or not run at all? What about walking/another physical activity? How are they with exercise in general?

Shitty stamina - he’s got weak lungs and the extent of his running ability is running for a bus and then needing literally four hours to recover. He sort of makes a vague attempt to exercise at home, but is easily discouraged and would just rather lie on the couch having a crisis of body-image.

How long can your oc stay focused on one task before they get bored? Do they constantly have to switch things up or do they hyperfocus? What sort of things is it the opposite for?

Felix is the king of repetitive, menial tasks. Set him in front of a diary or a spreadsheet and he’s well away. He really doesn’t mind thoughtless admin labour, even as he insists that he’s capable of handling more responsibility - and although he is more than capable, he also feels comforted by the predictability of data-entry. A nice mix of both would be ideal.

What smells bring back specific memories to your oc? What are those memories like?

Antiseptic and rubber floors, with that underlying stink of sickness. They’re not good memories.

How jumpy or easily spooked is your oc? Do they have a fight or flight reflex to being startled, or are they never startled at all?

He’s super-jumpy and easy to startle, which is delightful to some people. Between fight or flight, he’ll fly.

How polite is your oc? Do they do everything with the utmost courtesy, or do they completely refuse to say please and thank you?

He’s unfailingly polite, because his mother would have beat him with a shoe if he wasn’t.

How flexible is your oc? Can they touch their toes or do they have trouble just sitting down because of how stiff they are?

He doesn’t think he’s flexible at all, but certain intercurricular activities with Lyon suggest that he’s more flexible than he thinks he is.

What is your oc’s typical walking like? Do they speed-walk everywhere, do they take quick short steps or long paces? How loud are their footsteps?

Because his legs are kinda short, he walks pretty quickly just to be able to keep up with people - quiet steps, because he’s trying not to draw attention to himself.

If your oc was in a video game, what would their idle animation be?

Cleaning his glasses, putting them back on, squinting through them, then taking them off and cleaning them again ad infinitum.

What topics does your oc know the most about? Are these obvious or would these be surprising to others?

He’s a talented cook and has absorbed quite a lot about flavour profiles and all that shit that I know nothing about so I’m not going into details lmao. He’s also got a bank of knowledge about classic films that he keeps to himself, as he’s never convinced anyone would be interested. He’s got a lot of shit that he keeps to himself for this same reason, and therefore there’s quite a lot he could surprise people with if the right topics came up.

What time of day is your oc most awake? What about most tired? Do they get up at the same time every morning without need of an alarm, or is their sleep schedule all over the place?

Tries to tell himself he’s a morning-person. He isn’t. Left to his own devices he’d wake up about 10 and fall asleep about 2am, but he’ll insist if asked that he’s naturally inclined to wake up early.

What would someone blackmail your oc with? Would they be successful in getting what they wanted?

they’d get hold of a list of his pornhub browsing history and yes, they would absolutely be successful.

How easily does your oc get attached to things? Does everything have a sentimental value to them, or do they see nothing as more valuable than its practical use? What about with people/animals?

He gets attached to people and animals very easily, but as for things - he gets angry when he breaks or loses items, but that’s more to do with being stressed about having to pay to replace them than anything sentimental. He’s thrifty to a fault and won’t throw anything out until it’s absolutely unusable, to the point that he’s gotten pretty skilled at sewing repairs in order to avoid getting rid of clothes. He does have sentimental attachments to a few things, but not the majority.

How stubborn is your oc? Are they easily convinced of the opposite opinion, do they not agree but let it happen anyways? Or do they cause conflicts with their inability to budge in their decisions?

He’s not stubborn, as such, but he does know his own mind. He can be talked around or into things quite easily, but he does like to feel as though his voice has been heard.

How much has your oc traveled? Why is this? Would they like to travel more? Or are they perfectly fine with staying home?

He’d prefer to stay home - there’s too much room for error travelling abroad, and the risks don’t really outweigh the benefits for him. He travels back and forth between England and Germany, and he has visited France before as a boy, but that’s about it.

What signs tell that your oc is nervous? Do they fidget, is it in their expression or the way they say things? Or are they very skilled at hiding it?

He fiddles with his glasses and fidgets his hands around, and is also (as mentioned) a blusher - he’s Not Subtle when he’s nervous or flustered, which in turn makes it worse.

How superstitious your oc? Do they end up following them ‘just in case’? Or are superstitions incredibly important to your oc? What are some that they believe? What about the ones they don’t?

He says he isn’t superstitious, but I’m not certain that’s true - I think he’s superstitious despite himself. He follows them, then gets annoyed with himself for following them and assures himself that he won’t do it again, but then when it comes to it next time he follows them again anyway. He won’t walk under ladders, won’t open an umbrella indoors and he broke a mirror once and almost died. The only one he doesn’t believe is unlucky black cats, because he’s never met a black cat that was unpleasant.

1. More Than a Memory - This is a story that shouldn’t exist. I hadn’t written anything for several years and thought I was done with writing fic, but then the final season of Game of Thrones happened. I started writing this story the day after the final episode aired and I pretty much didn’t stop until all 33k of it was done a few weeks later. I couldn’t stop wondering about how Brienne was feeling at the end of it all. This is set post series and it’s NOT a fix-it, but it’s all about Brienne and Jaime, and is my attempt to explore Brienne’s feelings about a lot of things and try to find a way for her to end up as happy as she can be.

I didn’t expect to get involved in the fandom. I was going to just write this story, post it, and go away again. Still not sure how that didn’t happen.

2. As Sunlight Drinketh Dew - This was my first real hint that the words weren’t going to stop after I finished More Than a Memory. MTaM was all Brienne’s POV, for obvious reasons, so As Sunlight Drinketh Dew is my first attempt at Jaime’s POV. I call it a PWP, but it’s not exactly that. It is a one-shot sex scene, set in Brienne’s chamber a bit later on that particular night in 8x04, but it’s fairly heavy on the character exploration as well as on the smut. I like throwing characters into bed and seeing how they react, and... well, I think I definitely achieved that in this story.

3. You I Know - This is the novel length Regency AU that I’ve been threatening to write for over ten years and through several fandoms. I first read both Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer when I was 13, which is, well, let’s count in decades ago rather than years. I’ve been fascinated by the Regency period ever since, and over time I’ve accumulated a lot of otherwise useless knowledge about the clothing and hairstyles and types of vehicles and styles of furniture and social rules, and the general history of the time. I am throwing ALL of that knowledge at this story. It’s been on hiatus because I’ve done a few side projects that got out of control in the meantime, but I WILL be getting back to this one. There’s still a huge amount of story to go, and I really want to continue writing about The Honourable Brienne Tarth and Major Ser Jaime Lannister, cavalry officer.

4. Breakfast and a Bump in the Road - Last August, I put You I Know to one side to do Writer’s Month. I was intending to write a ficlet in response to each daily prompt for the month, and I had some vague idea that most of these would be loosely related. I should have known better. My ficlets often tend not to remain ficlets, and that definitely happened this time. Writer’s month ended up spawning two series, the main one of which became known as the Aussie Coffee ‘verse, of which this story is part. I’ve read MANY coffee AUs set in the US and the UK over the years, but I’ve never read one set in Australia. I decided to remedy that situation. To summarise the coffee ‘verse: 

British tourist Brienne Tarth is abandoned by the side of the highway in northern New South Wales, Australia, a few days before Christmas with (what she thinks is) her luggage, after an argument with her travelling companion, Hyle Hunt. After walking back to the last little coastal township they passed by, she finds a coffee shop, and in it a man named Jaime, who may or may not be a barista, and may or may not be some sort of Hemsworth. This is the story of their increasingly less coffee-filled adventures. Also, there’s an Aston Martin sports car.

There are currently 15 stories totalling 103k words in the series - but it’s really not a series, even though each story uses a Writer’s Month prompt as its theme. It’s actually turned out to be one long story. However, since this meme is about individual stories, I’ve chosen this particular instalment in the coffee ‘verse because I had such a ball writing about Kafe Khaleesi and its dragon-themed beetroot lattes - plus Jon Snow, the barista from Melbourne who, naturally wears all black despite the sub-tropical climate of northern NSW. (If you haven’t read any of the coffee ‘verse, just be aware that this story won’t make much sense without reading the instalments that come before it.)

5. Beloved - The other series that had its start in Writer’s Month prompts was After Everything, my post-canon fix-it series. The summary of this series is simply that Jaime didn’t go south to Cersei and, after everything, he went back to Tarth with Brienne. Unlike the coffee ‘verse, the stories in this series are designed to be able to be read as stand-alones, even though there is a loose story arc running through the whole series.

Beloved is set when Jaime and Brienne have been married for two weeks. They are both still carrying emotional baggage, and this leads to their first real marital argument. This is probably the most ‘me’ story that I’ve written in this fandom. I was really glad to find that I still had it in me to write something like this. I enjoyed digging into them and their relationship and exploring the bits that need to be explored. There’s also a scene in Chapter 2 that’s my single favourite scene that I’ve written in this fandom. It combines action and emotion in a way that I think really works for these particular character.
