Sorry for the late response, this one is going to be tricky. I don't think there's really ever a good reason to cheat so I won't be justifying why the boys get cheated on, but I will cover how they react to it. Having said that, this one will be fairly brief but I hope you like it. Headcanons below the cut as always.

Also, first time introducing Shinada to the gang. Get hyped.

Kazuma Kiryu

Disappointed more than anything. Kiryu doesn't ask for much and always does his best and in the end he will blame himself for your infidelity. He won't outright end things but he'll never be the same. Eventually, he will break it off down the line as he feels the trust is shattered and no matter how much time has passed, he can't shake the feeling that it could happen again.

Majima Goro

Hope you're ready to get ghosted if you cheat on this man because that is absolutely what will happen. The second Majima finds out, he's gone. You won't see or hear from him again. There's no if, and, or but about it. After all it took for him to open up and trust you, you broke him. That's exactly what he was always afraid of and you just proved him right.

Akiyama Shun

Goes straight into denial mode. Might actually BEG you to stay because he'll blame himself for not giving you enough. Mostly, he blames his trauma from past relationships. Chances are you won't hear from him for a couple of days because he'll go into a little depression hermit crisis mode. He'll stick around to try to make it work but you can tell his energy is totally sapped from the relationship.

Saejima Taiga

Doesn't get mad, just gets distant. Out of all the boys, he's most likely to try to forgive you for this. He may even actually "get over it", in a sense that the thought of it doesn't upset him much anymore. However, he will be noticeably more distant. He won't call or text as much and when he does, his replies will be much shorter. He'll be less open with you.

Tanimura Masayoshi

Gets dejected as hell. He knows he's a busy man but damn if he didn't try his best only for it not to be enough. Very inexperienced with love and chances are you are his first or second relationship ever, so it's a huge blow to him. Will try to hide how upset he feels to make things work but he's terrible at hiding it. Cries himself to sleep when he first finds out.

Ryuji Goda

He'll just break up with you on the spot. If you're living together, he'll arrange for one of his employees to pack your things and drive you into Sotenbori. He won't even see you out the door. He is hurt but it's more so that he feels all the work he's put into the relationship was a waste of time and Ryuji hates to waste his time and energy. Moves on the quickest out of all the boys.

Nishikiyama Akira

Will never stop asking why, even if he stops asking you directly and out loud, he will never stop wondering why it happened. It's a huge blow to his confidence. He will become much more timid because he's afraid of doing something that will cause you to cheat again because he thinks it's his fault. Will likely ghost you slowly over time.

Daigo Dojima

He'll cry when he's entirely alone. Things are so hard for Daigo as is. He is trying very hard to not let this break him. Will try to salvage the relationship but he's also not trusting of you at all so it'll end up being a sleeping-in-separate rooms situation, all the while he stares at the ceiling late at night wishing it could be the way it was again. Daigo genuinely panics and feels trapped, wondering what he could've done, if he can prevent this from happening, and if he even wants to bother trying anymore. The chances of him leaving you are low, so he'll likely let himself get cheated on again unfortunately.

Mine Yoshitaka

King of giving you the cold shoulder. He won't shut you out entirely but if you want to fix things, you will have to WORK at it. Mine's logically driven so he'll be watching to see if you can prove that this relationship is what you want. It's basically like winning his heart over from the very start all over again.

Tatsuo Shinada

Only one of the boys to cry outright upon hearing the news. Will be inconsolable. Cries loud and hard. He'll let you decide what to do with the relationship because once this happens, he just doesn't care anymore. He's so dejected and hurt that if you wanted to leave, it wouldn't bother him because he's already feeling his lowest. If you decide to stay, it will take a LOT of reassurance to get him back to himself in any capacity.

I'm so happy to have you here and to know you've been reading my works on AO3. <3 I specifically waited to answer this ask because I wanted to wait until I could say, Chapter 7 of Balancing Act has been posted. I hope you enjoy! Yes, you make a great point about where we are in the story. In fact, I've been looking forward to this particular update. This is a comparatively shorter chapter than the others, but it's packed with information about the Exchange Ritual we heard about from William's book. Now that a lot of the lore information regarding the power swap has been discussed in the fic, I feel a lot more comfortable teasing some of the more plot-based experiences that the characters will face as they strive to achieve "balance" in their own ways. Be on the lookout for some snippets here, if you're someone who enjoys teasers!

That is so kind of you to say re: uploading. Here is a fun fact. When I begin posting fics, especially longer fics that have multiple plots and characters, I actually have the whole fic drafted! I choose to update about once a week so as to give people time to read, but I've found doing so helps keep pressure off of myself, plus it gives me a chance to revise frequently to ensure that the plots and little details are integrated. Thank you for your concern!

- You were running away, all you could do was run. All you could see was your life flashing before you and all you could hear was the murderous screams of that freak.

- It was supposed to be an average day. Your boyfriend Childe had to leave on a business trip. Childe always reassured you he’d protect you, that he’d have your back no matter what.

- But contrast to his promise, here you are on the verge of death as the murderer catches up to you. Your last words, “dont hurt me!” Before your eyes shot open only to see your boyfriend caressing your cheeks with worried eyes as he coos.

“Hey baby.. im here, no ones hurting you. Im right here for you…”

- childe kissed your forehead and temple as scared tears fell down

“A nightmare hmm? Oh poor baby.”

- As cheesy and teasing as it sounds he still does tries to comfort you, whispering reassurance into your ears as he kisses the stray tears away.

- He’ll hug you as tight as he can, wrapping his hands around your body as if in a protective manner while he places butterfly kisses on your head.

“Y-you were gone on a trip and someone came to assassinate me…”

- He frowned at the thought, after all. That was a very possible outcome, it wouldn’t be hard to kill you if Childe was away on a trip

- But he’s promised multiple times that he’d protect you, make sure there was not a single a scratch on your soft skin, and even if that nightmare is extremely possible, he promised and he intends to keep that promise, even if it means his own life being chipped away.

“Oh honey you don’t need to worry about that! Your big strong harbinger of a boyfriends will beat up anyone who tries to hurt you! You can count on it baby.”

- After one last kiss on the lips he tucks you back into the bed, babying you as he pats your head to sleep.

Kaeya

- it was supposed to be your 1 year anniversary, a day youve been waiting for the entire year. You had gifts, an outfit, a restaurant booked and you were ecstatic.

- But it turns out this was to be your very last anniversary, well, ever. Walking into your own home after a day of shopping for gifts to the Calvary captain of the knights of favonius, smothering another person in his love and affection. His lips were on theirs and all you could see was that blur of your boyfriend cheating

“Hah~! You really thought i loved you hm..? Oh how wrong you were..”

- the love of your life, fading away from your grasp as all you could hear was their mocks.

“Y/N..?! Hey, hey are you awake??”

- all you saw was your boyfriend, not gone, holding onto your frame as he asked you what you were crying for.

- As he placed you on his lap and rubbed your back the tears kept flowing even more and you eagerly buried your face into the crook of his neck, that scene of his lips on someone else replaying in your head.

“… what happened hm? You were sobbing in your sleep..”

- his voice was gentle, practically the opposite of that mocking tone he gave you in that nightmare

“You cheated on me kaeya… i saw you kissing someone else on our— anniversary!”

- you sobbed into his shoulder, he was a bit stunned at first but tried to calm you down, patting your head and kissing your temple while he assured you he would never cheat on you

“It was just a nightmare darling, it was fake. Im here with you right now and i wont cheat on you ever.”

- he cooed, slightly stiff at your tears. He wanted you to know he cant even think about cheating on you, after all you were his haven. How could a nightmare trample on you two’s tranquillity like that?

- Your tears started to dry up as he kissed each inch of your skin, insisting that he had to kiss each and every spot.

- He slowly stopped when he started hearing your sleepy giggles before letting you off his lap and cuddling with you laid down, running his fingers through your hair, cradling you.

“Oh sweetheart id never cheat on you okay..? I love you too much for that.”

Thoma

- He had left you. In the dust with nothing to spare. Simply a glare and a small set of words. “I never loved you.” He had a nasty look on his face as his frame disappeared into the horizon leaving you shouting, screaming, sobbing for some kind of explanation as you begged Thoma to stay.

- The love of your life breaking away at the promise that he’d stay right infront of you. Your mind playing mind games on you as it taunted you in that nightmare

- Suddenly as you clawed for him to stay your eyes shot open, the first thing you saw was your heavily concerned boyfriend Thoma, shaking you awake as he repeated “are you okay..?!”

- Your eyes brimmed with fat tears as you threw yourself onto the clueless man. He was a bit stunned at first but assumed it was a nightmare, after all you were crying and fidgeting in your sleep. He hugged you back while you whimpered into this chest.

- He worriedly rubbed your back and combed his fingers through your hair

“Hey hey… shh shhh, it’ll be fine baby… im here for you!”

- his voice gentle and smooth while he kisses your forehead and lets your tears stain his shirt.

“W-What happened hm? Was it a nightmare sweetie?”

- he panicked for a moment before just letting you sink into him, not caring about how long you tried to babble out an answer, simply focusing on your trembling figure.

“Y-you left me—! In the dust…. You said you never loved me in the first place..”

- Each sniffle between the words broke his heart into trillions of pieces. Him? Leaving you? God you were the light of his life he wouldnt even think about it! What a shit nightmare, spewing such terrible made up lies

“What..?! Oh honey id never do that okay? Im all yours, id never leave you. Your everything to me. Im right here, alive and real. I love you so dont think about that nightmare too much baby..”

- each sappy squeak coming from Thoma’s mouth comforted you to an extreme. The feeling of his lips on your forehead made you melt as you started to forget the dream, his right arm around your waist tightly while his left pat your head lovingly as your upper body lays atop him
